INITIAL PLANS

INITIAL REACTION
My initial reaction to being able to create my own product was happy as it
means I can show skills I have that I haven't been able to use regarding the other
products I have create the past weeks. My best skills include editing videos /
shots together and creating vlogs as I have a YouTube channel which helps a lot
with the editing side of the media industry. I also have experience when creating
print media as my mum had a yellow pages in English when living in Spain and a
fashion magazine that were both hugely read around the area we lived in, thus
being useful for me as I was home educated when living in Spain and helped my
mum and her staff when it came to editing the magazine and shooting the
pictures that were going to be used within the magazine as we used all original
images that were either shot by ourselves or photographers we knew within the
industry. As well as editing and print experience, I also have knowledge
regarding the music industry i.e. the touring aspect of band / artist, therefore I
understand how designing merchandise works, what items sell, how to advertise
concert tickets, what the fans want to see from the artist regarding social media
updates etc.
MIND MAP – TOUR ADVERT
Gather together videos
from a recent artist live
in concert and put them
together to create an
advertisement for said
artist for their next
world tour.
Take original videos
from the same artists
concerts from different
dates showing a
different range of
entertainment from the
artist on different nights,
leave in some speech
like “thank you”,
“welcome to the ***
tour”.
Have the different
countries the artist is
headed to flash up on
the screen throughout
the advert, including the
full tour dates at the
end of the video.
Include web links to
where tickets can be
purchased as well as
prices and release dates.
Advertise web exclusive
merchandise, pre-sale
option (and how fans
can get pre-sale tickets)
as well as which date
they will be available on
sale.
Have some merchandise
go with the advert i.e.
tour shirts, jumpers,
posters etc.
Design posters to put
on billboards with a
picture of the artist and
tour dates plus social
media pages with tour
updates
MIND MAP – MERCHANDISE
Design t-shirts, posters,
mug, wristbands etc.
containing the
silhouette of an artist
with said artists name /
signature on the items.
Normal Merchandise:
T-Shirts
Mugs
Posters
Album Cover
Personalised Items
Socks
Jumpers
Calendar
Tour Merchandise:
Tour T-Shirts
Date Specific T-Shirts
Tour Posters
Wristbands
Tour Hoodies
Take original images of
the artist either on stage
or in a studio and print
onto merch item.
Design a website for the
merchandise to be
advertised on.
Research what sort of
merchandise people
would purchase over
other merchandise i.e. if
someone were to prefer
having a tour jumper
over a t-shirt, have a
look to see how many
others would prefer the
jumper also.
Have the merchandise
be available in all sizes
when its clothing and all
shapes when other
items.
MIND MAP – CONCERT VLOG
Vlog my experience
about going to a gig,
show how the queue
works, explain what I'm
doing throughout the
day, interview other
people, if people
camped explain why
people do it and how
the number system
works, as well as include
some of the show and
talk about my
experience seeing a
certain artist.
Have social media for
the YouTube channel;
Twitter, Facebook,
Instagram, Snapchat etc.
Have a website for the
channel i.e. a blog that
has full performance
videos of said artists,
news updates of all
different musicians,
detailed descriptions of
experiences from past
concerts / meet and
greets, Q&As etc.
Create a video for the artist by
filming some fans reactions
before and after the concert,
asking them how the gig was,
what they enjoyed the most, if
they’re excited for that
evening, if they’re going to
other tour dates etc.
When inserting the artists
concert into the vlog, make
sure to make the videos
shorter and dub another song
(royalty free) over the top of
the artist as if the channel is
monetised, the record
company / management will
take a cut if not all earnings
form the video
INITIAL IDEA
As my final idea I have decided to combine both the tour advert and
merchandise together and create tour promotion for either a made up
artist/band or a current artist/band. The promotional items will include a TV
advert showing the artist performing on stage and tour dates, designing of
merchandise sold on a webpage and/or tour exclusives e.g. t-shirts, jumpers etc.
I will also design promotional posters and, depending on the time I have
remaining to complete the project, create a webpage / social media page
including tour updates with original images of the artist on tour. To create the
video, I will use all original videos from previous concerts I have been to
regarding my favourite artists, combining them together to create a 90 – 120
second TV advert. I will include information at the end of the recording, lasting
around 3 seconds long, showing where you can find out about the tour and
where to purchase tickets etc. Regarding the merchandise I will potentially
design, I will, again, use original images I have taken I feel will be appropriate to
print upon a t-shirt or jumpers or any other form of merchandise I create. In
order to find out what products to create, I will design a survey asking my
audience what they prefer to purchase when buying merchandise online or on
tour. For promotional posters, I will look at existing tour posters that show the
specific date and venue within the area it is put up in and ones that include the
MOOD BOARD
MOOD BOARD
MOOD BOARD ANALYSIS
For both of my mood boards there isn’t a strong range of colours used, most
colours are the same for each item of clothing/poster. For the tour posters, if it
were the same artist to tour the following year, they are more likely to use the
same colour scheme and font style as it would be seen easier and cheaper to
create the same type of tour poster. For merchandise, the artist would change
the design, colours and items in general when going on a new tour. For
example, the pink jumper within the first mood board has a different range of
colours. It was sold on the artists first tour, where as for the second tour, he has
similar styled jumpers, however there is different writing on the chest area and
sleeve of the jumper. He also has hoodie versions of the jumper in black and
white. This artist is also known to have date specific t-shirts on his tour, thus
meaning fans buy the specific date t-shirt for the tour date they went to as it
holds more sentimental value. He has full date options also. The other artist sells
wristbands on their tour, and has only changed the colour for the second tour
from black to blue. His t-shirt designs have remained similar, however the front
image has changed + the dates aren't on the back, only the cities he is playing.
That artist also sells all of his tour merchandise on his website, where as the
other has only tour merchandise that can only be purchased when on tour.
