Line is the basic element of visual art and can be defined as a dot in motion that has position and direction in space. Lines can vary in width, direction, and length, and are used to define shapes, contours, outlines, mass, and volume. Different line qualities communicate different emotions - horizontal lines suggest rest, vertical lines communicate loftiness, diagonal lines imply movement, and curved lines can indicate comfort or confusion depending on their shape. Line is the main element in drawings, where it is used for contour or gesture drawings, and also plays an important role in painting through outlining forms and shading with techniques like hatching and cross-hatching.
Design, a language in its own right gave voice to those who could not speak eloquently. It provided a medium that could paint a picture in a way that even best literary works could not do. But what is there that helped building up this language? What is the basic structure that created such a profound medium where anybody has a chance showcase his own stories? This presentation tries to breakdown that structure for people who care enough to learn about it. With this presentation, I try to lay down the two main aspects of design, i.e., “Elements and Principles” of design. These aspects are quite necessary in order to learn about how to visualise every single attribute of design. These aspects provide an insight into the working of a design. One might be into any kind of design language, but the basic structure remains the same. therefore, it becomes quite important to learn about this structure in the first place.
Presentation visuals presented to the Jefferson County Photography Club. It's intended to cover principles of composition not normally considered or discussed (at least in our club).
This is an activity I used with ESL students to deepen their understanding of the concept of line in art, and to learn to use vocabulary in English associated with line. Also includes a few images to provoke conversation and to illustrate points.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Acetabularia Information For Class 9 .docxvaibhavrinwa19
Acetabularia acetabulum is a single-celled green alga that in its vegetative state is morphologically differentiated into a basal rhizoid and an axially elongated stalk, which bears whorls of branching hairs. The single diploid nucleus resides in the rhizoid.
Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

2. What is a line?
If we think of a point as having no dimensions (neither height nor
width), and then we set that point in motion, we create the first
dimension: line.
So we can define line as a dot in movement.
3. The line is one-dimensional, it has position and direction in space.
Lines can vary in width, direction, and length. Lines often define the edges of
a form.
4. The line is used to define shape, contours, and outlines, also to suggest
mass and volume.
Darker, heavier lines create emphasis and draw our attention to a certain
part of a drawing.
5. Lines can be combined with other lines to create textures and patterns. This is
common in engravings and pen and ink drawings.
6. Tension lines or implied Lines are those Lines that are not actually drawn but
created by a group of objects seen from a distance. The direction an object is
pointing to, or the direction a person is looking at.
7. Expressive qualities of line
• Lines can communicate
information through their
character and direction.
• Line also communicates
emotion and states of mind.
8. • Horizontal line suggests a feeling of rest or repose. Objects parallel to the
earth are at rest in relation to gravity. Compositions in which horizontal lines
dominate tend to be quiet and restful in feeling.
9. • Vertical lines communicate a feeling
of loftiness and spirituality. Erect
lines seem to extend upwards
beyond human reach, toward the
sky.
• Extended perpendicular lines suggest
overpowering, beyond ordinary
human measure.
10. Diagonal lines suggest a feeling of movement or
direction. Since objects in a diagonal position are
unstable in relation to gravity, being neither vertical nor
horizontal, they are either about to fall, or are already in
motion.
11. Curved lines do vary in meaning, however. Soft, shallow curves suggest
comfort, safety, familiarity, relaxation. They recall the curves of the human
body, and therefore have a pleasing quality. Deep, acute curves, on the
other hand, suggest confusion.
12. Zigzag lines are lines that are made by combining diagonal lines that
change direction. These lines when viewed in a work of art create confusion.
They suggest action and excitement.
13. LINE IN DRAWINGS
• When line is the main element of an image, the result is called a drawing.
There are two general types of drawings: contour and gesture.
• Contour Drawings:When line is used to follow the edges of forms, to
describe their outlines, the result is called a contour drawing. This is
probably the most common use of line in art.
14. • Gesture Drawings: In this instance, describing shapes is less important than
showing the action or the dynamics of a pose. Line does not stay at the
edges but moves freely within forms. Gesture drawings are not drawings of
objects so much as drawings of movement, weight and posture.
15. • LINE IN PAINTINGS
Line can be an important element in painting. Because painting basically deals
with areas of color, line becomes important to painting when the artist
purposely chooses to outline forms
16. SHADING WITH LINES
• HATCHING – It is a way of shading or giving tones to the areas of objects
and surfaces with parallels lines.
• CROSS-HATCHING - It is a way of shading or giving tones to the areas of
objects and surfaces with parallel lines in several directions.
