Texture refers to how an object feels or looks like it would feel if touched. It is an element of art defined by qualities like rough, bumpy, slick, smooth, etc. There are different types of texture including tactile texture perceived through touch, visual texture which represents tactile textures graphically, natural textures found in nature, and artificial textures of man-made objects. Artists use various textures in their works depending on their style, with some examples given like Van Eyck, Durer, Monet and Picasso who incorporated textures in different ways in their art.
