•Texture is the skin of things.
•A texture of something is the way that it feels when
you touch it.
• It is the element of art that refers to the way an
object feels to the touch or looks as it may feel.
• Everything has a texture or a surface.
• Texture can be:

• Bumpy
• Slick
• Scratchy
• Smooth
• Silky
• Soft
• Prickly
• ... The list is endless!!
MEANING
SMOOTH- Liso, suave.
ROUGH- Áspero.
HARD- Duro.
SOFT- Blando, suave.
WOVEN- Leñoso, entramado, tejido.
BUMPY/ LUMPY- Pedregoso, irregular.
JAGGED/ IRREGULAR- Dentado, serrado,
irregular.
RIDGED - Estriado
ROUGH- Áspero.
ROCKY- Rocoso
SOFT- Suave
WET-Húmedo
SANDY- Arenoso.
FURRY/ HAIRY- Peludo
BUMPY- Pedregoso, desigual.

TACTILE TEXTURE
• We perceive it by
touching an object.
• Every material has a
different touch, so it is
a different texture.
VISUAL TEXTURE
• When we represent a
tactile texture using
graphic elements, we
get a visual texture.
• We can create visual
textures using different
art procedures:
scrapping, stencilling,
printing...
NATURAL TEXTURES
• They belong to natural elements, like the skin of an elephant, the cortex
of a tree or the surface of a rose petal...
ARTIFICIAL TEXTURES
• The surface of any object made by us: steel, paper, different kinds of
fabrics...
