St Therese Of Lisieux, By Kim Kardashian
What is a hero, people may ask? A hero is somebody who does good things and believes in what is
right and just. I mean, let s be realistic. Who is a hero today? Kim Kardashian, no. Eminem, no. Nicki
Minaj, oh my goodness, no.
St Therese of Lisieux is an everyday hero. She was very loving, caring, kind, friendly and a brave
person. Therese knew at a very young age, that she loved God, and she obeyed his every command.
She took care of the sick and helped the poor. Therese did many great things, and she influenced
Christians to do those things, as well.
St Therese was born January 2, 1873 in Alencon, France. She was raised as a Catholic, along with her
4 sisters. When she was fifteen, she decided to become a nun, but she wasn t ... Show more content on

In 1925, she was finally declared as a saint by Pope Pius X. She was also declared Doctrine of the
Church by Pope John Paul in 1997. St Therese is only one out of three women to be given the title
Doctrine of the Church. Her body is on display at a local museum in Ireland, where it remains
uncorrupted.
St Therese was a very kind person. She never judged anyone or even be mean to someone. One day,
Therese went to sit near her sisters, but saw that one nun was sitting all alone on a bench nearby.
Therese was so kind to sit next to her, and keep her company. St Therese was also very brave. When
she ran up to the Pope, she could have gotten arrested. That s like somebody running up on stage, just
to take a selfie with Drake. It s a dangerous thing to do, but yet she didn t care about that. All she
really wanted at that moment in time, was to convince the Pope to become a nun. Now if that s not
courageousness, then what

Proving the Kawasaki Theorem
Introduction:
Research
We chose this project; because we all love making origami and now we will know everything in it.
Origami means the art of paper folding. It s connected to the mathematics called geometry. When we
fold origami we also create lots of surfaces. For instance, by folding a square piece of paper in half
diagonally or from one tip to the opposite tip, we create two surfaces in the shape of triangles.
Mathematicians related origami to a theorem called the Kawasaki theorem. The Kawasaki theorem
states that if we add up the angle measurements of every angle around a point, the sum will be 180. It
is a theorem giving a decision for an origami construction to be flat. Kawasaki theorem also states that

Sink Fold
The sink fold is a method of blunting a point that has no open edges. The fold should first be
precreased. Then carefully open the model and tuck the point inside. Flatten the model afterwards
along existing creases.
Procedure of making a pelican origami:
1. Start with your paper white side up. Fold in half, along the line shown, and then open out again. 2.
Fold the outside corners into the centre line, and crease well.
3. Fold the outside edges into the centre once again. 4. Turn model over and fold bottom point up to
the top point. Crease very well. 5. Fold in half
6. Rotate model so it is now lying down. 7. Raise the inside triangle upwards slowly, then flatten and
crease well. 8. Inside Reverse Fold the head along the crease shown.
9. Fold each wing upward as shown, then fold it back again slightly. The pelican will now rest on its
wings and sit up. Finished Pelican!
Classifying some types of origami
There are lots of types of origami:
Action Origami
Origami Tessellations
Pure land Origami
Toilet Paper Origami
Wet Folding Origami
Crease Patterns
Dollar Bill Origami
Golden Venture Folding
Modular Origami
Conclusion:
Thus, we conclude that in this project we can use the Kawasaki theorem to construct a pelican or a
crane using certain folds of origami.

A Vindication Of The Rights Of Men
Mary Wollstonecraft s epistolary essay A Vindication of the Rights of Men acts as a direct, scathing
response to Edmund Burke s opinionated piece regarding the French Revolution, Reflections on the
Revolution in France . This essay will examine the use of satire as a mode in the opening sections of
Wollstonecraft s Vindication , as well as comparing her lexical choices to those of her addressee,
Edmund Burke. The Oxford English Dictionary states that satire is ... [A] work of art which uses
humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize prevailing immorality or foolishness,

political masculinity. You see I do not condescend to cull my words to avoid the invidious phrase, nor
shall I be prevented from giving a manly definition of it, by the flimsy ridicule which a lively fancy
has interwoven with the present acceptation of the term By refusing to be prevented from manly
definitions , she is defining and rejecting the gender stereotypes that are pressed upon her by being a
woman whilst simultaneously parodying Burke s use of the term. There is a sense of sarcasm within
this that accentuates Wollstonecraft s subtle use of satire. She refuses to condescend , thus refusing to
lower herself to his level, which is an attempt to invalidate his arguments by drawing attention to
Burke s own condescension within Reflections . As Conniff argues; she adopted from classical
rhetoric the stance of a virtuous and honest commentator intent on revealing Burke s corruption she
places herself above Burke with her style of argument and her semantic choices, working to
deconstruct the core of Burke s argument and break down his elevated political stance.

Theseus and the Robbers There once was a land located in the middle of the frigid and bitter tundra. It
was white and blue as far as the eye could see. Very few creatures lived in this boreal climate, even the
human inhabitants struggled to survive. They looked to their gods and goddesses for sustenance. This
is the story of Neigia, and one of its divine rulers, Theseus. The king before Theseus was Avril. Avril

Library Security Proposal
Introduction
Libraries are still one of the most widely used facility in America that requires everyone to be in a safe
and secure environment. Statics show that most libraries in the underprivileged areas, the police had to
be called more so than those who visited libraries in the least deprived areas (Wilson, 2017). The most
well known security concerns that apply to a library facility security is protecting the library staff and
patrons, historical artifacts, preventing the facility from becoming a dwelling for the homeless,
teenager performing vandalism or fighting and persons with mental inappropriately exposing
themselves or reorganizing books due to obsessive compulsive disorder (Quora. 2015). So, the
purpose of this paper is to design and implement a comprehensive Security Plan of a local Library
facility to examine the problems and issues that might arise. This plan will outline the security
procedures for preventing and handling security issues related demographic analysis, interior and
exterior property, protection against information security and personal security, emergency
preparedness, OSHA, hiring and training of security personnel training and legal issues related to the
library building.

Wastewater Treatment
Introduction
The increase in the number of individuals in the planet has established a boom in technology, and
industry, which advances the problems in the economy, and contributes to the degradation of the
environment. Evidently, the treatment and collection of the wastewater in urban areas poses a critical
problem especially in developing countries. Wastewater is a practice that has been taken on especially
in urban areas where the domestic effluent pollutes surface water bodies creating health problems for
the public. In another word, any water that has been affected by anthropogenic influence. And
Wastewater can produce a group of activity that consists of domestic activity, industrial activity,
commercial activity, surface runoff or storm water, and from sewer inflow or infiltration. Wastewater
is the most important thing that can help people moving comfortably for example when it is raining.
Especially, when vehicles move around the city this Wastewater can reduce the hazards of sliding
vehicles at road. Also, wastewater can avoid wastefulness of water and can help the agriculture
environment by irrigation. On the top of that, the wastewater will help grow the lands when planet
growing that will reflect to the air and will get pure air. And all people can get purified water from

Imagery In Poetry
Imagery within Poetry Imagery is a vital element to poetry, not only does it portray a literal image, but
also helps amplify the emothions within the poem. In poems such as, The Widow s Lament in
Springtime, the strongest emotion conveyed seems to be acceptance with a bit of sadness. This will be
shown in four different examples that almost follow the path of grieving to acceptance and finally
release. In opening of the poem, the first line from the speaker is as follows, Sorrow is my own yard...
(Williams 1). This line immediately sets a tone of sadness over the poem. With sorrow being a strong
word for sadness, it almost prepares the reader to look at the poem from a darker standpoint rather
than if the opening word was happiness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As seen, Thirtyfive years I lived with my husband (Williams 7 8). With the wording being in past
tense, it can only be assumed that the speaker s husband has passed and that the sorrow is actually
grief. The next couple of lines are described with more fiery and bright colors, in a way showing the
brightning of the speaker s attitude. As stated, The plumtree is white today with masses of flowers.
Masses of flowers load the cherry braches and color some bushes yellow and some red but the grief in
my heart is stronger than they for though they were my joy formerly, today I notice them and turned
away forgetting (Williams 9 19). These sentences are a great example of how imagery not only creates
the image but also emphasizes the emotion within the poem. As a reader it is easily seen that the
speaker is still having an internal battle between their depression and acceptance. As the speaker
begins seeing things more bright and lively their grief is overshadowing connecting anything with
positive thoughts, but what s different is the speaker has turned away in an attempt at letting go. Next,
the speaker introduces their son which in a way changes the mood of the poem with the innocence of
the child. As seen, Today my son told me that in the meadows, at the edge of the heavy woods in the
distance, he saw trees of white flowers. I feel that I would like to go there and fall into those flowers
and sink into the marsh near them (Williams 20 29). It is interesting how the son also notices the white
flowers that the speaker connected earlier with their sorrow. This is where the reader learns that the
tone of the poem was not that of sadness but one leading to acceptance in the

Weather In Life Of Pi
In literature, weather is a mechanism used to enhance and create mood. In the novel Life of Pi, it is
used successfully in this way. However, Yann Martel s use of weather in the story also portrays the
overwhelming commotion in Pi s subconscious as he undergoes 227 days at sea. The parallels between
the weather and Pi s journey of transcending his safety net, his normalcy, and his childhood are
evident throughout the novel. Weather is a representation of the wholehearted connection Pi has with
nature, as it often accurately represents his thoughts and emotions. Yann Martel uses weather as a
medium to encapsulate the reader and put them in the novel, but also to convey the dire circumstances
of Pi s mind.
In the novel, Yann Martel writes about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?, is the self acclaimed masterpiece of
Paul Gauguins career. It represents the culmination of his ideas and beliefs that he acquired throughout
his life as a painter. Many visual characteristics of the painting, such as the color, line, and light are
unrealistic in nature, but serve to emphasize the tropical surroundings in which Gauguin loved to
paint. Although the organization of the characters in this lush jungle clearing seem random, Gauguin

The idol also represents a change in color tones from the rest of the painting. It has been painted in a
light blue, similar to the coloring of background elements. According to Gauguin, this figure
represents the beyond, which is emphasized by its close relationship in color to nature. (Museum of
Fine Arts, Boston)
Although the use of line and light is not as defined as the color scheme, they still play an important
role in the overall organization of the painting. Gauguin uses curvilinear lines throughout this work
with no right angles or sharp points. The outlines in the background are fairly blurry and some of the
lines blend into one another. In contrast, the characters in the foreground are comprised of precise,
sharp lines. Gauguin goes as far as lightly outlining the bodies with a dark line in order to give them a
sense of depth. Light also serves to enhance certain aspects of the painting. Gauguin has been careful
in his use of light to create some areas of brightness and some of darkness. The central figure glows in
the bright light, which shines down on her from above. This light shows the importance of the
decision of whether to pick the fruit or not. It is focused so directly on one area and is void in the
others.
The organization and relationships of the characters, animals, and background elements in Where do
we come from? seem to be fairly unorganized and random, but Gauguin has placed them in this order
consciously. The painting is

Epistemology and Its Influences
In order to elucidate the way in which the choice of epistemology influences the formulation of a
management research problem, it is necessary to define the term epistemology and clarify some of the
varying epistemological stances. In doing so, the reader will be able to understand the myriad different
variations of epistemological viewpoints, each of which shape the direction of research and the sort of
problem that research attempts to identify. Management research builds on the long tradition of
research in the social sciences (Somekh and Lewin, 2005). Primarily, epistemology provides the very
lens through which research is conducted. Certain epistemological lenses, therefore, are best suited for
certain types of research and research problems, whereas other research problems can be determined
most efficaciously through other epistemological lenses.
To simplify this assertion, it is best to define epistemology as a series of (occasionally conflicting)
views about the most appropriate (Easterby Smith et al, 2012) method of inquiring about the source of
knowledge in the world. The pivotal element of this definition is the fact that there are a multitude of
epistemological perspectives, and some are more appropriate for certain management research
problems than for others. Thus, epistemology is one of the primary ways in which researchers can
specifically tailor the pursuit of their research question, which is a crucial part of the research process

The Brand Of Clothing On Female Consumers By Buying Behavior
In this dissertation, we focus on discovering the influence of the brand of clothing on female
consumers by buying behavior in Pakistan.
A. Branding Concept
The brand for years has been used as a means to differentiate and specify the goods of one producer of
the goods of another. Ambler (1992) defines the brand as the promise of the packages of attributes that
someone buys and provides satisfaction. The attributes that make up a brand can be real or deceitful,
rational or emotional, tangible or invisible. fashion Fashion can be conceptualized as both an object
and a behavioral process fashion object refers to a specific object, such as a specific clothing item,
That is to say, dress that can have functional utility as a characteristic, but in general the acceptance of
objects occurs due to the quality that the fashion process is characterized by the introduction of a
fashionable innovation to a social system composed of potential adopters, First object is adopted by
fashion leaders, then diffused through a particular social system and is accepted by a large number of
members of that social system and finally the eventual decline in acceptance of the fashion object
occurs Due to change in popularity of the existing fashion object to a newer one.
Name of the brand
It shows the origin of the product / product and helps the conscious customers to differentiate the
brand or product from their competitors. It also creates consumer awareness about the brand. The

Invictus And The Rose That Grew From Concrete By Tupac
Obstacles. Everyone has been forced to overcome them at some point in their life. These obstacles
have shaped everyone and helped them become the person they are today. Challenges are a part of life
and everyone will face them at some point in their life, but it is how people handle it that determines
their future. This idea can be seen in many pieces of text including the following poems. Invictus by
William Ernest Henley and The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac both convey the idea that
obstacles are important in everyone s life and help shape everyone as a person on the way to their
dream.
Through Invictus William Ernest Henley shows that if people did not run into obstacles in their life,
no one would know who they truly are. The use of imagery shows this theme in that it allows the
readers to feel and see the pain that the writer is going through. For example, William Henley says, I
have not winced nor cried aloud./ my head is bloody, but unbowed (6 8). This device is being used to
demonstrate the difficult journey that the author was given to go on, in order reach his dream and be in
control of their life. It shows the theme of this poem because it speaks about the low points in a person
s life and about how by not giving in they become stronger. This device also shows that though they
have been beaten down multiple times they refuse to be broken. Another device that Henley uses is
diction. He uses this device to stress the importance of different words

Socrates Paper
Socrates is believed to be one of the greatest philosophers of all time and he is credited as being the
founder of western philosophy. This paper will explain some of his views to the most fundamental
questions of today s age. These questions will include topics about morality, the human condition,
solution, and death. After Socrates views on these topics are explained, a critique will be done on his
answers. I will start out by explaining exactly who Socrates is, and the time that he lived in. To start
out, we will first examine Socrates view on morality.
There are many questions that could be asked about the topic of morality. Questions like, what are the
central moral principles, who is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It interferes and holds back the soul s search for the truth and causes all bad things in the world. It is
not necessarily the physical body itself, as much as it is the desires that it brings with it.
With the question of human condition being answered, Socrates now can answer another one of our
fundamental questions. This question is Solution. Solution proposes a way to fix what has gone with
the world and mankind. In Socrates eyes, the world s greatest problem was the attachment to the
human body. He proposes that this can be fixed by detaching oneself from the body. Socrates partially
explains this by saying It seems that so long as we are alive, we shall keep as close as possible to
knowledge if we avoid as much as we can all contact and association with the body, except when
absolutely necessary; and instead of allowing ourselves to become infected with its nature, purify
ourselves from it until God himself gives us deliverance. In this way, by keeping ourselves
uncontaminated by the follies of the body, we shall probably reach the company of others like
ourselves and gain direct knowledge of all that is pure and uncontaminated that is, presumably, of
Truth. (Phaedo 67a b). Socrates also talks about the importance of purification of the mind as another
solution, which ends up coming back to the separation of the soul from the body. This can be seen
when Socrates

Student Dropout Essay
At what age do you think a student should be able to dropout of high school? Have you ever thought

to dropout? Even though there are certain reasons why students should not dropout, the student is old

Raising the age for student dropouts/student graduation does not always stop students from dropping

Source four also states They also have created several pathways to graduation, so there s more than
one way to succeed. This quote tells the readers that you could drop out, and still find a efficient way
to graduate or succeed. Some argue that students should stay in school until the age of 18 because it
will get them more benefits. According to the U.S Department of Education, high school diploma
degree students have an income of $27,380 a year. The U.S Department of Education also says that
high school dropouts have a yearly income of $19,540. This shows the comparison between the
incomes. This is a benefit for students that finish high school and graduate they get more yearly
income. Source 4 states that Those without a high school diploma have lower earnings, higher
unemployment, lower job satisfaction they even have a higher likelihood of ending up in jail or on
public assistance. This statement from the source implies that students that drop out will most likely
end up in trouble. Letting the students drop out at the age of 17 is a better choice than forcing them to
stay in school because school is not for everyone. Some students will slip off in school because they

Media Piracy
Executive Summary
Disney and the Pirates of the Industry
I. Introduction
As a global company with high interest in both the music and film industries, it is essential that Disney
deal with media piracy effectively. With Internet access increasing globally, piracy has the potential to
create huge financial losses for Disney. In order to adequately deal with this problem, it is necessary to
comprehend the history and evolution of piracy, its impacts on music and film industries, and its effect
on the development of innovative business strategies. This brief will address various issues relating to
media piracy in order to make insightful recommendations.
II. Factors in the Evolution of Media Piracy
A major issue in business today is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another strategy enacted by the entertainment industries is the use of digital rights management
systems (DRMS). DRMS are tools for the media industry to fight piracy by controlling access to and
usage of digital data, essentially going beyond the restrictions of copyright law by putting additional
limits on distribution of intellectual property (Fetscherin 2003). For example, the iTunes online music
store encodes its music files so that they may not be illegally copied (Dela 2005). DRMS is a
controversial topic, as many consumers claim that DRMS restrictions take away the benefits of the
digital world (Fetscherin 2003). This represents the conflict in ideology between consumers and
industries. Having said that, Disney has to preserve its competitiveness in the industry by closely
following all the technological developments associated with copyright protection. As the industry
shifts more and more towards online retail, the theme of copyright protection of digital files will
continue to recur.
The government s position in the media piracy issue is more complicated. Governments must try to
appease the industries but also face the conflict of consumer interests (Harmon 2003). This involves

The Benefits Of Transgender In The Armed Forces
Transgender in the Armed Forces
Many go to risk their lives to serve our country and unfortunately many don t come home in the end.
Entering our armed forces brings great opportunities, but a lot of stress as well. Being given the
freedom and the chance to serve is phenomenal. Every race, gender, or sexual orientation should have
a right to join, or so we thought. Why shouldn t certain minority groups not be allowed to serve?
Upon joining the armed forces many benefits step forward, but do some of these benefits go too far?
Many army recruiters come to schools and always mention the benefits. Transgender veterans or
personnel need medications and maybe some surgery which cost quite a sum of money that gets
passed to the government to pay (West). The government should not be paying for transition surgery
or medications, due to it being the taxpayers money(West). People that are transgender should be able
to pay for their own hormones and surgeries because other transgender people not in the military do
so(West). In many ways too they could be disqualified for the medications and the surgery before
entering the armed forces (Allen). Why should they be given special treatment for being transgender,
when someone else is just as qualified and willing is dismissed for depression or some other medical
need. Even with these exceptions the medications or surgery might even work in the end.
Transgenders have been known to be mentally unstable before joining the military because of

Regression Movie Psychology
Rating: 2 Set in Minnesota in the 1990s and supposedly based on true events, Regression threatens
more thrill than it can deliver. The dim lit, oil stained sequences follow Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke)
as he investigates the case of Angela Grey (Emma Watson) a young woman whose father John (David
Dencik) confesses to having sexually abused her, even though he has no specific memory of the crime.
Inferring that John has gone into denial, Bruce enlists the help of Dr Raines (David Thewlis), an
English hypnotherapist who uses regression therapy on both father and daughter to draw out memories
of the crime. As they delve it is uncovered that Angela was an unwilling participant and victim of
satanic ritual abuses. A host of other parties come under suspicion including Kenner s colleague
Nesbitt (Aaron Ashmore), Angela s distressed grandmother Rose (Dale Dickey) and her runaway ...

The central theme is incredibly ignorant, and really makes no sense. Regression fails by trying to
focus too much on the lack of proof nature of regression. The compelling ideas of influence,
suggestibility and irrational bias when applied to memory and perception under trauma are quite
interesting but those aspects are not explored with any insight whatsoever. The style and tone of the
movie shift in a very baffling fashion. On the one hand, this is a drama about mass paranoia, false
memory, superstition and the power of suggestion. On the other, it has sustained instances of a horror
movie. The healthy sprinkling of undesirable creepy faces, Cup a Soup, ominous tomcats and close
ups of hooded creatures do not do anything to alleviate the plot. The brash background score by
Roque Baños is a rather corny and unsubtle affair. The few flourishes of psychological thrill in the
movie are purely visual. To his credit, Daniel Aranyó s high contrast cinematography delivers a
convincing 90s postmodern horror

Human Resource Sergeants ( Hr Sergeants )
The question we must ask ourselves is what exactly the Profession of Arms is and what is our role as
Human Resource Sergeants (HR Sergeants) what is it that we bring to the fight, what s our
contribution to the Army s overall objective. As we emerge from years of war, from constant back to
back deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, we find ourselves in an era of persistent conflicts where we
find ourselves embroiled in conflicts all around the world. In a world that seems more dangerous
today than it was yesterday it is important we remain vigilant and remain capable of fighting and

the Professional s Leader: Balancing the role of the Professional Leader has been an ongoing issue for
the Army since the latter decades of the 19th century when the U.S. Army was professionalized. The
Army has struggled with the matter of balancing a force as massive as the Army. When out of balance
the Army does not have the capability to send Soldiers where they are needed. During the Second War
in Iraq it was obvious that the Army was not upholding this balance, junior leaders in the Army were
fighting against a counterinsurgency campaign that they were ill prepared to handle due to a lack of
necessary experience and equipment. Army leaders must balance the link between the Army s culture
and it s climate and institutional practices. When there is a proper balance it has a huge impact on the
mindset of the Army s Soldiers. Their actions or inactions impacts the five key attributes of the

Woodrow Wilson s Impact On The World And Foreign...

Doctrine sought to combat the spread of communism through financial and military counter forces.
Not all of Truman s efforts for U.S. intervention were as fruitful for the U.S. internationally or
economically as his advisors had predicted. Nor did the Truman Doctrine always create the intended

and allies against the expansion of communist regimes. The attempts of the United States to remake
the World after WWI and WWII were only partially achieved. The United States pursued a successful

Sunspot Research Paper
Sunspots are temporary irregularities in the sun s photosphere associated with a relatively more
intense magnetic field (George Hale). Sunspots share a number of similar features. They:
have two basic visible structural components: a darker central region called the umbra where the
magnetic field is strongest, and a surrounding brighter region called the penumbra where the magnetic
field is weakest; and lack granules which are seen throughout the rest of the photosphere, as the
convection cells that cause granules are beneath the sunspot (see figure 1)
may occur in groups of up to 10 or less (see figure 2) and occur in pairs parallel to the equator with the

The Importance Of Special Needs Children
When I was younger you could have asked me what I wanted to be and you would think that it might
have been the same answers every little girl gives. But not me. I was different, I didn t want to be a
princess, a celebrity, an astronaut or even a famous singer. No, I wanted to be a special needs teacher.
People have asked me, Why teach special needs kids? And I simply tell them, There is something
special about them that makes me want to be around them. I want to help them learn new things . Kids
with special needs hold a big portion of my heart. Why? you might ask. Well, special needs kids have
always been extremely important to me. The number one reason I love kids with special needs is
because of my twin sister. My twin sister has a rare syndrome called Smith Magenis Syndrome. It is
especially rare for only one of the twins to have the syndrome and the other one to not have it.
What is a sped it s a teacher who works and teaches kids that have special needs. Being a sped teacher
you have many duties and may be responsible for one or more kids. Sped teachers have to teach and
mentor students as a class, small groups or one on one. The most important thing a sped teacher does,
is asses the child s skills to determines their needs and to develop appropriate teaching plans. All sped

The Nash Street Historic District a significant part of Starkville due to it being one of the cities earliest
twentieth century suburb. It signifies the change of Starkville from a minor, agricultural town to a
contemporary, university oriented city in response to the development of Mississippi A M College
(later Mississippi State University) in the 1930s. The district is also the largest and most complete
concentration of significant 1930s suburban architecture in the county. The significant period starts in
1932 and ends in 1940 when the last pre war house was constructed.
Nash Street is Starkville s first subdivision, 61 subdivisions have been listed at the Courthouse from

Analysis Of Salinger s The Rye

29 September 2015
The Catcher in the Rye, published in 1951 by J.D. Salinger, has been banned multiple times
worldwide because of much controversy surrounding the book s depiction of underage sex, drinking,
profanity, and tobacco use. However, Catcher should be taught in American high schools because the
book includes many controversial subjects surrounding teenagers, including depression, suicide, social
isolation, and teenage angst, all of which many students can relate to and identify with. Readers of the
book can learn important lessons about life, perception, and dealing with our emotions.
Including the book in an academics course is a good idea because readers of all ages can learn a lot
about issues surrounding teenagers. For example: It is interesting to see how the problems surrounding
the youth of the 50 s are some of the very same problems affecting the youth of today. Although a
much simpler time, some teenagers growing up in the early 1950 s faced depression, social anxiety,
and diversion, as do some of the youth of today. Some of the problems we face today are nothing new,
they have been around for decades. Although today, we do not have the pressing issues of the Cold
War and Korean war, just as back then they did not have the issues of terrorism or the new Snapchat
update taking an extra hour to download. It just goes to show that time cannot change everything.

Incident Background On September 24, 2010, a laptop was stolen from an unlocked Urology office at
the Henry Ford Health Systems hospital. The laptop did contain password protection software;
however, it may not have been enough to permit access if the thief had advanced knowledge in
computers. Additionally, the information stored on the laptop did not include social security or health
insurance information, but instead held patient names, medical record numbers, dates of birth,
telephone numbers, e mail addresses, and treatment and doctor visits (Moscaritolo, 2010, p. 1). It is
unknown how many records were contained on the laptop, but all records were related to prostate
services that were provided during an eleven year span.
Reaction to Incident Once it was revealed that the laptop was missing, Meredith Phillips, the chief
privacy officer for the hospital, notified all involved patients by letter and offered each of them a free
one year credit monitoring service (Henry Ford Health System, 2010). The hospital also established a
telephone help line that addressed patient concerns (toll free), as well as initiated an internal
investigation to determine if appropriate security measures were followed. Furthermore, all employees

Due To The Extensive Amount Of Harm That Photo Manipulation
Due to the extensive amount of harm that photo manipulation causes, it is an ethical issue. Digital
photo manipulation in women causes widespread harm, long lasting damage to women s self esteem
and other negative psychological thought processes. Research has also found that it causes a large
number of eating disorders. It does this by making women chase the ideal, thin body image that is
being portrayed in the different pictures and advertisements. There was a study done that examined
both the thin ideal and body classification. Results from this showed that viewing the thin ideal lead to
a higher level of body dissatisfaction (Whyte, Newman, Voss, 2016). Thereby this issue diminishes the

A false idea of what one actually looks like is being portrayed within the photograph. They are
providing the viewers with an inaccurate and unreliable picture. It is also important to know who the
parties involved in this issue are. The company that decides to alter the image is first handedly
involved in this matter. The model that is posing for the shot, which in this case are the women that
are being altered, are also involved. Lastly, the viewers of the photograph, which includes all of
society and their target audience of females are involved as well.
Knowing the relevant laws when analyzing this issue is crucial as well. Given that the First
Amendment grants people with the freedom of speech, these companies are allowed freedom of press
as well. This allows the companies to do what they want with the images they have. They are allowed
to advertise for their company however they choose, regardless of outside opinions on their methods.
They can send whatever message, whether indirect or not to their audience without any restrictions.
However there are some company policies that these businesses try to follow. First and foremost they
try to market however they think will get them or their product the most attention. They do this at the
cost of unethical photo manipulation. Some different companies such as Dove and Aerie have spoken
out against this issue and have started campaigns of their own in response to it. The

The Basic Characteristics Of Humanism During The Renaissance
Some of the basic characteristics of Humanism especially during the beginning were that it mostly
consisted and was centralized around Italy. The reading mentions that something that made Italy
different from Europe was that their members were part of the clergy. Being part of the clergy
defiantly have them an advantage in which they had some governmental and educational experience.
Something else that the reading mentions is that humanism meant rhetoric and literature bases. In my
opinion, this was really important because it focuses more attention on the importance of education,
history, and literature. This was just a starting point of what education and the importance of it would
eventually become. The beginning of humanism also bega the practicing of history, one in which
people actually wrote in means of history actually writing for it. Humanitism increased in popularity
and therefore inspired others to learn and do the same. Italians viewed this situation as a preparation
for the public life. With this, not only people benefit but the whole society as a whole were benefited.
The classical value overall during the Renaissance was very impacting. I believe this because not only
did the Humanism thinking and Humanists help somehow develop better ways of thinking. This not
only opened new ways, but also better ways to think, act, and even create. The development of
Humanism helped create interest in new and even some controversial ideas. Rhe reading mentions that

What Are The Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Black-Scholes...
Introduction
In 1973, Fischer Black and Myron Scholes first published the Black Scholes Model in the paper, The
Pricing of Options and Corporate Liabilities , published in the Journal of Political Economy. From this
model, the Black Scholes option pricing Model (BSM) was deduced as a means to price European
options.
The simplicity of the use of the BSM allowed traders to effectively price and trade options and
derivatives in markets all over the world. It is still widely used today, although with some
modifications, by market participants.
This paper seeks to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the Black Scholes option pricing model.

Therefore, the Black and Scholes (1973) methodology can be used for valuing convertible bonds.
However, the writer finds that the original BSM may require some modifications to value CBs. The
reason behind this is based on some of the unrealistic assumptions used by the BSM;
American Exercise Terms
The BSM offers a good framework to begin in valuing such an option. However, it must be noted that
CBs often make use of options with American terms, which the original BSM is unable to price. Han
and Wu (2003) suggest a modification of the BSM to a standard forward diffusion equation over an
infinite domain.
Dividends
The original BSM assumes that the underlying security does not pay dividends, however in reality,
many companies pay dividends on their stocks. This requires for the BSM to be adjusted by
subtracting the discounted value of the dividend from the stock price. However, overestimating or
underestimating this dividend could adversely affect the value of the option, leading to a possible
misprice on the

Literary Techniques Used in The Storm by Kate Chopin
This short story was really straight forward until it got to the end, where it had a twist, which made me
pick the story to write on. Kate Chopin did an outstanding job using symbolism, but this novel is not
for all ages, if you know what I mean. How the setting, tone and theme all tie all together is what
makes the story different from the others.
Is the storm literal or symbolic? This particular question really stood out and really made me think and
analysis the story. For example, the question asks about the storm if it is literal or symbolic. The storm
is a super obvious symbol. It s involved in practically every element of the story. First off, it s the title.
Second, it plays a huge role in the plot, forming the beginning and the end of the story. It also plays a
really important part in the middle by bringing Calixta and Alcee together, pushing them into each
other s arms and giving them the time and space to get physical before the world outside returns to
normal. Also, the storm is a frightening occurrence in the natural world. Alcee describes it as a
cyclone (Chopin 2.13), while Bobinot can tell right away that its sombre, sinister, and threatening
(Chopin 1.1). Chopin describes the rain pouring down with a repetition and regularity that suggests
rain itself. Of course, it s when all that rain is coming down most passionately and brutally that Calixta
and Alcee are also getting more and more passionate; exploring their feelings for one another to the

loyal because he does not hunt by himself with Billy or with other hounds. Similarly, Little Ann left to

  • 2. St Therese Of Lisieux, By Kim Kardashian What is a hero, people may ask? A hero is somebody who does good things and believes in what is right and just. I mean, let s be realistic. Who is a hero today? Kim Kardashian, no. Eminem, no. Nicki Minaj, oh my goodness, no. St Therese of Lisieux is an everyday hero. She was very loving, caring, kind, friendly and a brave person. Therese knew at a very young age, that she loved God, and she obeyed his every command. She took care of the sick and helped the poor. Therese did many great things, and she influenced Christians to do those things, as well. St Therese was born January 2, 1873 in Alencon, France. She was raised as a Catholic, along with her 4 sisters. When she was fifteen, she decided to become a nun, but she wasn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1925, she was finally declared as a saint by Pope Pius X. She was also declared Doctrine of the Church by Pope John Paul in 1997. St Therese is only one out of three women to be given the title Doctrine of the Church. Her body is on display at a local museum in Ireland, where it remains uncorrupted. St Therese was a very kind person. She never judged anyone or even be mean to someone. One day, Therese went to sit near her sisters, but saw that one nun was sitting all alone on a bench nearby. Therese was so kind to sit next to her, and keep her company. St Therese was also very brave. When she ran up to the Pope, she could have gotten arrested. That s like somebody running up on stage, just to take a selfie with Drake. It s a dangerous thing to do, but yet she didn t care about that. All she really wanted at that moment in time, was to convince the Pope to become a nun. Now if that s not courageousness, then what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Proving the Kawasaki Theorem Introduction: Research We chose this project; because we all love making origami and now we will know everything in it. Origami means the art of paper folding. It s connected to the mathematics called geometry. When we fold origami we also create lots of surfaces. For instance, by folding a square piece of paper in half diagonally or from one tip to the opposite tip, we create two surfaces in the shape of triangles. Mathematicians related origami to a theorem called the Kawasaki theorem. The Kawasaki theorem states that if we add up the angle measurements of every angle around a point, the sum will be 180. It is a theorem giving a decision for an origami construction to be flat. Kawasaki theorem also states that a given crease pattern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. A Vindication Of The Rights Of Men Mary Wollstonecraft s epistolary essay A Vindication of the Rights of Men acts as a direct, scathing response to Edmund Burke s opinionated piece regarding the French Revolution, Reflections on the Revolution in France . This essay will examine the use of satire as a mode in the opening sections of Wollstonecraft s Vindication , as well as comparing her lexical choices to those of her addressee, Edmund Burke. The Oxford English Dictionary states that satire is ... [A] work of art which uses humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize prevailing immorality or foolishness, esp. However, her use of manly is not designed to encourage masculinity, but instead parodies his ideas of political masculinity. You see I do not condescend to cull my words to avoid the invidious phrase, nor shall I be prevented from giving a manly definition of it, by the flimsy ridicule which a lively fancy has interwoven with the present acceptation of the term By refusing to be prevented from manly definitions , she is defining and rejecting the gender stereotypes that are pressed upon her by being a woman whilst simultaneously parodying Burke s use of the term. There is a sense of sarcasm within this that accentuates Wollstonecraft s subtle use of satire. She refuses to condescend , thus refusing to lower herself to his level, which is an attempt to invalidate his arguments by drawing attention to Burke s own condescension within Reflections . As Conniff argues; she adopted from classical rhetoric the stance of a virtuous and honest commentator intent on revealing Burke s corruption she places herself above Burke with her style of argument and her semantic choices, working to deconstruct the core of Burke s argument and break down his elevated political stance. • 11. Imagery In Poetry Imagery within Poetry Imagery is a vital element to poetry, not only does it portray a literal image, but also helps amplify the emothions within the poem. In poems such as, The Widow s Lament in Springtime, the strongest emotion conveyed seems to be acceptance with a bit of sadness. This will be shown in four different examples that almost follow the path of grieving to acceptance and finally release. In opening of the poem, the first line from the speaker is as follows, Sorrow is my own yard... (Williams 1). This line immediately sets a tone of sadness over the poem. With sorrow being a strong word for sadness, it almost prepares the reader to look at the poem from a darker standpoint rather than if the opening word was happiness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As seen, Thirtyfive years I lived with my husband (Williams 7 8). With the wording being in past tense, it can only be assumed that the speaker s husband has passed and that the sorrow is actually grief. The next couple of lines are described with more fiery and bright colors, in a way showing the brightning of the speaker s attitude. As stated, The plumtree is white today with masses of flowers. Masses of flowers load the cherry braches and color some bushes yellow and some red but the grief in my heart is stronger than they for though they were my joy formerly, today I notice them and turned away forgetting (Williams 9 19). These sentences are a great example of how imagery not only creates the image but also emphasizes the emotion within the poem. As a reader it is easily seen that the speaker is still having an internal battle between their depression and acceptance. As the speaker begins seeing things more bright and lively their grief is overshadowing connecting anything with positive thoughts, but what s different is the speaker has turned away in an attempt at letting go. Next, the speaker introduces their son which in a way changes the mood of the poem with the innocence of the child. As seen, Today my son told me that in the meadows, at the edge of the heavy woods in the distance, he saw trees of white flowers. I feel that I would like to go there and fall into those flowers and sink into the marsh near them (Williams 20 29). It is interesting how the son also notices the white flowers that the speaker connected earlier with their sorrow. This is where the reader learns that the tone of the poem was not that of sadness but one leading to acceptance in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Weather In Life Of Pi In literature, weather is a mechanism used to enhance and create mood. In the novel Life of Pi, it is used successfully in this way. However, Yann Martel s use of weather in the story also portrays the overwhelming commotion in Pi s subconscious as he undergoes 227 days at sea. The parallels between the weather and Pi s journey of transcending his safety net, his normalcy, and his childhood are evident throughout the novel. Weather is a representation of the wholehearted connection Pi has with nature, as it often accurately represents his thoughts and emotions. Yann Martel uses weather as a medium to encapsulate the reader and put them in the novel, but also to convey the dire circumstances of Pi s mind. In the novel, Yann Martel writes about ... It allows the author to increase dramatics in the story while enhancing the meanings behind the situations that Pi is in. Where are we going? 1897 Oil on Canvas, 5 feet by 12 feet Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?, is the self acclaimed masterpiece of Paul Gauguins career. It represents the culmination of his ideas and beliefs that he acquired throughout his life as a painter. The idol also represents a change in color tones from the rest of the painting. It has been painted in a light blue, similar to the coloring of background elements. According to Gauguin, this figure represents the beyond, which is emphasized by its close relationship in color to nature. (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston) Although the use of line and light is not as defined as the color scheme, they still play an important role in the overall organization of the painting. Gauguin uses curvilinear lines throughout this work with no right angles or sharp points. The outlines in the background are fairly blurry and some of the lines blend into one another. In contrast, the characters in the foreground are comprised of precise, sharp lines. Gauguin goes as far as lightly outlining the bodies with a dark line in order to give them a sense of depth. Light also serves to enhance certain aspects of the painting. Gauguin has been careful in his use of light to create some areas of brightness and some of darkness. The central figure glows in the bright light, which shines down on her from above. This light shows the importance of the decision of whether to pick the fruit or not. It is focused so directly on one area and is void in the others. The organization and relationships of the characters, animals, and background elements in Where do we come from? seem to be fairly unorganized and random, but Gauguin has placed them in this order consciously. • 15. Epistemology and Its Influences In order to elucidate the way in which the choice of epistemology influences the formulation of a management research problem, it is necessary to define the term epistemology and clarify some of the varying epistemological stances. In doing so, the reader will be able to understand the myriad different variations of epistemological viewpoints, each of which shape the direction of research and the sort of problem that research attempts to identify. Management research builds on the long tradition of research in the social sciences (Somekh and Lewin, 2005). Primarily, epistemology provides the very lens through which research is conducted. Certain epistemological lenses, therefore, are best suited for certain types of research and research problems, whereas other research problems can be determined most efficaciously through other epistemological lenses. To simplify this assertion, it is best to define epistemology as a series of (occasionally conflicting) views about the most appropriate (Easterby Smith et al, 2012) method of inquiring about the source of knowledge in the world. The pivotal element of this definition is the fact that there are a multitude of epistemological perspectives, and some are more appropriate for certain management research problems than for others. Thus, epistemology is one of the primary ways in which researchers can specifically tailor the pursuit of their research question, which is a crucial part of the research process (Podsakoff and Dalton, ... The Brand Of Clothing On Female Consumers By Buying Behavior In this dissertation, we focus on discovering the influence of the brand of clothing on female consumers by buying behavior in Pakistan. A. Branding Concept The brand for years has been used as a means to differentiate and specify the goods of one producer of the goods of another. These obstacles have shaped everyone and helped them become the person they are today. Challenges are a part of life and everyone will face them at some point in their life, but it is how people handle it that determines their future. This idea can be seen in many pieces of text including the following poems. Invictus by William Ernest Henley and The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac both convey the idea that obstacles are important in everyone s life and help shape everyone as a person on the way to their dream. Through Invictus William Ernest Henley shows that if people did not run into obstacles in their life, no one would know who they truly are. The use of imagery shows this theme in that it allows the readers to feel and see the pain that the writer is going through. For example, William Henley says, I have not winced nor cried aloud./ my head is bloody, but unbowed (6 8). This device is being used to demonstrate the difficult journey that the author was given to go on, in order reach his dream and be in control of their life. It shows the theme of this poem because it speaks about the low points in a person s life and about how by not giving in they become stronger. This device also shows that though they have been beaten down multiple times they refuse to be broken. Another device that Henley uses is diction. He uses this device to stress the importance of different words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the question of human condition being answered, Socrates now can answer another one of our fundamental questions. This question is Solution. Solution proposes a way to fix what has gone with the world and mankind. In Socrates eyes, the world s greatest problem was the attachment to the human body. He proposes that this can be fixed by detaching oneself from the body. Socrates partially explains this by saying It seems that so long as we are alive, we shall keep as close as possible to knowledge if we avoid as much as we can all contact and association with the body, except when absolutely necessary; and instead of allowing ourselves to become infected with its nature, purify ourselves from it until God himself gives us deliverance. In this way, by keeping ourselves uncontaminated by the follies of the body, we shall probably reach the company of others like ourselves and gain direct knowledge of all that is pure and uncontaminated that is, presumably, of Truth. (Phaedo 67a b). Socrates also talks about the importance of purification of the mind as another solution, which ends up coming back to the separation of the soul from the body. For example, the iTunes online music store encodes its music files so that they may not be illegally copied (Dela 2005). • 37. The Basic Characteristics Of Humanism During The Renaissance Some of the basic characteristics of Humanism especially during the beginning were that it mostly consisted and was centralized around Italy. The reading mentions that something that made Italy different from Europe was that their members were part of the clergy. Being part of the clergy defiantly have them an advantage in which they had some governmental and educational experience. Something else that the reading mentions is that humanism meant rhetoric and literature bases. In my opinion, this was really important because it focuses more attention on the importance of education, history, and literature. This was just a starting point of what education and the importance of it would eventually become. The beginning of humanism also bega the practicing of history, one in which people actually wrote in means of history actually writing for it. Humanitism increased in popularity and therefore inspired others to learn and do the same. Italians viewed this situation as a preparation for the public life. With this, not only people benefit but the whole society as a whole were benefited. The classical value overall during the Renaissance was very impacting. I believe this because not only did the Humanism thinking and Humanists help somehow develop better ways of thinking. • 38. What Are The Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Black-Scholes... Introduction In 1973, Fischer Black and Myron Scholes first published the Black Scholes Model in the paper, The Pricing of Options and Corporate Liabilities , published in the Journal of Political Economy. From this model, the Black Scholes option pricing Model (BSM) was deduced as a means to price European options. The simplicity of the use of the BSM allowed traders to effectively price and trade options and derivatives in markets all over the world. It is still widely used today, although with some modifications, by market participants. This paper seeks to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the Black Scholes option pricing model. Options To better understand the strength and weaknesses of the BSM, an understanding of how options ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the Black and Scholes (1973) methodology can be used for valuing convertible bonds. However, the writer finds that the original BSM may require some modifications to value CBs. The reason behind this is based on some of the unrealistic assumptions used by the BSM; American Exercise Terms The BSM offers a good framework to begin in valuing such an option. However, it must be noted that CBs often make use of options with American terms, which the original BSM is unable to price. Han and Wu (2003) suggest a modification of the BSM to a standard forward diffusion equation over an infinite domain. Dividends The original BSM assumes that the underlying security does not pay dividends, however in reality, many companies pay dividends on their stocks. This requires for the BSM to be adjusted by subtracting the discounted value of the dividend from the stock price. However, overestimating or underestimating this dividend could adversely affect the value of the option, leading to a possible misprice on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Literary Techniques Used in The Storm by Kate Chopin This short story was really straight forward until it got to the end, where it had a twist, which made me pick the story to write on. Kate Chopin did an outstanding job using symbolism, but this novel is not for all ages, if you know what I mean. How the setting, tone and theme all tie all together is what makes the story different from the others. Is the storm literal or symbolic? This particular question really stood out and really made me think and analysis the story. For example, the question asks about the storm if it is literal or symbolic. The storm is a super obvious symbol. It s involved in practically every element of the story. First off, it s the title. Second, it plays a huge role in the plot, forming the beginning and the end of the story. It also plays a really important part in the middle by bringing Calixta and Alcee together, pushing them into each other s arms and giving them the time and space to get physical before the world outside returns to normal. Also, the storm is a frightening occurrence in the natural world. Alcee describes it as a cyclone (Chopin 2.13), while Bobinot can tell right away that its sombre, sinister, and threatening (Chopin 1.1). Chopin describes the rain pouring down with a repetition and regularity that suggests rain itself. Of course, it s when all that rain is coming down most passionately and brutally that Calixta and Alcee are also getting more and more passionate; exploring their feelings for one another to the ... Old Dan and Little Ann are two redbone coonhound characters in the novel, Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, that have different appearances and methods of dealing with conflict. However, they both have similar personalities. First of all, Dan and Ann have very different methods of handling conflict. Old Dan does not think much before he goes into action. Billy announces, It was the voice of Old Dan ... In some way he had gotten into that old muskrat den (107). He was on the tail of a coon when he got stuck in the den. Dan did not think about it before he tried to find the coon. This demonstrates that he is impulsive. There is also another time that Dan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Billy reports, Old Dan, seeing the fate of his little friend (Little Ann), had quit the chase and come back to help her (115). Dan quit chasing the coon and went over to assist Little Ann when she was in trouble. This shows that Old Dan is loyal to Little Ann. Also, Old Dan only hunts with one specific hound. Billy announces, [Old Dan] would not hunt with another hound, other than Little Ann ... he would not hunt, even with me, unless Little Ann was with him (102). Old Dan again shows that he is loyal because he does not hunt by himself with Billy or with other hounds. Similarly, Little Ann left to help Old Dan. The author composes, There, scratched deep in the soft leaves were two little beds. One was smaller than the other (93). Ann left the doghouse and went to aid Dan s effort in keeping the coon in the big tree. They slept together in beds they made all night to make sure it did not leave.
