The Impact Of The Declaration Of Independence
On July 2, 1776, John Adams wrote a letter to his wife Abigail, a date that will be the most memorable
epoch in the history of America (202). On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopts the
Declaration of Independence, marked as the official statement of the American position (202).
Thirteen of American colonies severed their political connection to Great Britain. The Declaration
summarized the colonists motivations for seeking freedom an independence. The formal declaration of
independence automatically established the new American revolutionary government and officially
declared war against Great Britain. Well, Gentlemen, Benjamin Franklin told the Congress, we must

The war was last for seven years start from 1755 until 1763 (170). To end the bloody war, Treaty of
Paris was signed in February 1763. This treaty result s makes France lost its empire in North America
(176). The result as we can guess that the war will change the economic, political, governmental, and
the social relations between Britain, France, and Spain, their colonies and colonists, and also with the
native that live in the land that they claimed. Britain might have a wonderful military success in
winning the war, but because of the seven years war, they have so many debts to be paid. Britain has
to pay all its debt since the national debt doubled during the war (178). To deal with all the debts, the
King and his parliaments seeking the source of revenue to pay off the debts. The parliament and its
king, George III, make laws and taxes that imposed to the colonists. For example, the Proclamation
1763 that prohibited settlement beyond the Appalachian Mountains. While Britain did not intend to
harm the colonists, but many colonists took offense at this order. The proclamation was made because

The Mathematics Of Algebra And Algorithms
Anna Safavi
Algebra and algorithm are two of the most used branches of mathematics. They are used in everyday
life, algebra is used in financial planning, physical health and cooking, and algorithms are used in
driving and finding the shortest path, scheduling and in computer programming.
The history of algebra dates back to 1800 BC, in countries such as India, China, Greece, Persia and
England. With the understanding that algebra and algorithms have a huge impact on our lives today,
we will take a look at the history of algebra and algorithms, notable people that helped in their
creation and the things that influenced what we know today about algebra and algorithms. This paper
will go into depth in the influences of Islam on the creation and growth of algebra and algorithms as
separate branches of mathematics. We will look at the Golden age of Islam and how it influenced
many scientists, astronomers, geographers and physicians as well as mathematicians. Also we will
take a look at one notable mathematician of that time, Al Khwarizmi who created algebra and
algorithms, who is known as the father of algebra.
The work of mathematicians and scientists like Al Khwarizmi in 820 CE is the result of the influences
of Islam on the culture and knowledge of a specific time in our world, which is also known as the
Golden Age of Islam. It was during that time that Al Khwarizmi wrote the Compendious book of
balancing and calculations from which the word Algebra is derived from. Later

The Critique Of Dystopian Fiction
The increase in the quantity and array of literature available for young adult readers today represents a
more recent happening. The up and coming belief that the teenage years represent a stage of life split
from both childhood and adulthood. The publishing houses started to publish quite a few chain of
books aimed at young adults and also mature audiences. Through these fiction there began a makeover
into what contemporary readers think as young adult literature.
This YA literature began to utilize a realistic style combined with a grittier view of life. The world
found its reflection in this brand of literature. The schemes of these fictions were subjects often
uncharted or were formerly considered taboo for both adults and teenagers. ... Show more content on

The word dystopia can be translated from Greek for bad place and by and large portrays a society with
a utopian union that has at least one hazardous flaw. Though dystopia or anti utopia has mainly
marked and gained popularity as a doubtful reaction to utopian idea, it surprisingly shares a lot of
uniqueness with utopia. On the other hand, the chief peculiarity between these two genres lies in
whether the text seems to suggest a constructive or a harmful outcome to the utopian

Analysis Of The Book The First Ones
The First Ones
1. Introduction Patrick Rothfuss, author of The Names of the Wind, said this about words, Words are
pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in
the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts (Rothfuss, ch.86). What are words?
Words are powerful. They have meaning. Words are defined as ways feelings are express and
influence is spread. Throughout history, questions like, What is justice? and How do we justify what is
just or good? have popped up in human minds and Plato and Aristotle were the first philosophers to
answer these questions.
2. Plato
2.1. His Life To many people, Plato was known as the first writer of philosophy. Plato was born in
Athens in 429 BC (Plato Biography, egs.edu). His birth name was Aristocles and gained the nickname
Platon later on. He had two brothers named Adeimantus and Glaucon (Plato Biography, egs.edu).
When Plato met Socrates, he adopted his philosophy and discussed about virtue. From 409 BC to 404
BC, Plato was in military service during the Peloponnesian War, which was a war between Athens and
Sparta (Plato Biography, egs.edu). After the war, Plato joined the Athenian politics, but shortly left
because Socrates, Plato s mentor, was accused of not recognizing the gods of the state and sentenced
to death (Plato Biography, egs.edu). Shortly after, Plato left Athens and traveled the world learning
and teaching (Plato Biography, egs.edu). In 387

France, China
Intertwined with France s continual change to government and Republics is their culture of desiring a
hero. After the French revolution, Napoleon was voted in as the emperor of France. Napoleon was a
war hero after the French revolution and the citizens of France believed he could be the savior that
France needed. Because of the hero worship culture in France, Napoleon was given dictatorial powers.
Additionally, the French citizens showed the yearning for a savior after World War Two when General
Charles de Gaulle became head of the government. In 1958 the French generals demanded that de
Gaulle be named head of the government, and if not they would land paratroopers in Paris and take
over the city. The president had no choice and the parliament ... Show more content on

China has had twelve different constitutions since 1911. The most recent constitution came to be in
1982, and in theory it gives a serious amount of power to the National People s Congress (NPC). The
NPC is a group that is elected by the provincial people s assemblies who are in turn elected by
lowering ranking officials. The constitution states that the NPC is the highest Organ of state power .
The constitution also gives the NPC the power to amend the constitution; supervise its enforcement;
enact and amend laws; ratify and abrogate treaties; approve the state budget and plans for national
economic and social development; elect and impeach top officials of the state and judiciary; and
supervise the work of the State Council, the State Central Military Commission, the Supreme People s
Court, and the Supreme People s Procuratorate . However, in reality the NPC serves mostly as a
rubber stamp for Party decisions. One example of this is the NPC s right to elect party officials such as
the President and Vice President. Technically the NPC has these rights, it is the CPC that actually
appoints these positions and the NPC just simply agrees with the Party s decisions. A driving reason
that the NPC has so much theoretical power, yet does not have any power in reality is that many NPC
deputies are members of the CPC or are state officials or civil servants. China rejects the principle of
separation of power, and this allows for NPC deputies to hold positions in these other branches of
government. The NPC is designed to oversee the other branches of government that they are usually
in, therefore, many members of the NPC are overseeing themselves. According to a leading Chinese
media organization, 85% of the three thousand NPC members hold positions in other branches of the
government. That number clearly shows why the NPC does not use any of their power, because they
are overseeing

When Someone Thinks Of Interrogation Techniques Their Mind
When someone thinks of interrogation techniques their mind gravitates towards the cliché good cop
bad cop routine. It is a classic calling card in stories and films alike where one cop intimidates the
suspect and another is sympathetic towards them. However, real life interrogations are of course more
complicated than they are portrayed in film. This paper will seek to learn more about the fundamental
techniques that detectives utilize in the real world to incriminate suspects.
The interrogation process is one of the most important phases of the justice system. It demands many
aspects such as, the investigation of crime, the apprehension of offenders, the restoration of order, and
the deterrence of future crime (Police Interrogation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal is to create a connection psychologically with the suspect. Therefore, the interrogator must
connect with them on a personal level, for instance, through engaging in small talk. Small talk helps to
push things forward as it contributes to the previously mentioned idea of creating an illusion. It is at
this time where the interrogator is engaging with the suspect in a friendly manner so that they feel
more comfortable, and the interrogator is viewed as nonthreatening. It is intended to put the suspect at
ease (Police Interrogation and American Justice) and thus make the interrogator more relatable. The
second step is to acknowledge their rights; Miranda Waiver. Detectives are legally bound to inform the
suspect of the Miranda Waiver; the right to remain silent and that anything they say or do can be used
against them in court. If by any chance a detective forgets to do this, any statements cannot be used
against him and are excluded from evidence at trial (Police Interrogation and American Justice). At
this stage the best outcome for the interrogator is for the suspect to waive their rights for a lawyer, that
way they do not have to deal with a lawyer. The third stage is when the interrogation process actually
happens. During this process the detective is no longer asking questions but instead accusing the
suspect of the crime committed. The idea here is to convince the suspect that they have evidence

An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for...
An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for the Lord
In Barn Burning, Faulkner s usual style of long sentences and detailed descriptions continues.
Although the run on sentences are not quite as complicated or abundant as those of the other Faulkner
works we have read, I still found myself wondering to some extent what the story was really about.
Was it just about a bitter man s spitefulness toward Colonel de Spain as a result of his jealousy of the
colonel s status? Or was there more to it? I also was left wondering why Faulkner did not refer to
Sarty by name most of the time, but rather as the boy. Did he want the reader to be less identified with
Sarty even though he was the narrator? Did he want his reader to ... Show more content on

Faulkner uses he said to connotate the dialogue, but since there are two he characters in this particular
case, it is difficult to figure out which one Faulkner is referring to.
On a different note, I did notice that Faulkner once again placed several references and emphasis on
eyes, especially the father s. On page 16, the narrator says the gray eyes glinted coldly in reference to
the father s eyes. The father s cold eyes are again described on page 19. The reference to people s eyes
remingded me of descriptions of Dilsey s eyes from The Sound and the Fury and Charlotte s eyes
from The Wild Palms. I thought it was interesting to see the recurrence of emphasis on the character s
eyes.
Shingles for the Lord much easier to read than even Barn Burning. The story was very straight foward
and simplified, unlike much of Faulkner s other work we have read. I found myself reading through it
very quickly without having to stop to reread something. The language was easy to understand, the
characters were clearly identified, and there was not an abundance of run on sentences.
I found Pap to be a quite intriguing character. It was strange that every action he took was motivated
by spite and his contempt for the other characters, much like the father from Barn Burning. The two
men almost sound as though they could be the same character. The story is told from the familiar first
person viewpoint of

Reaction Paper On Pre-Interaction
Pre Interaction:
What information are you seeking to gain from this interaction?
During this interaction, I am hoping to gain information about various topics on campus. The
following topics include: Public Safety, lack of trash cans, how to get commuter students more
involved, and how can we improve the GCU experience for commuter students. The reason, I bought
up discussing about Public Safety, is that commuter students are the ones who constantly are walking
to and from the Halo and 29th Avenue garages and I just want to see if there has been any issues. The
reason, I plan on discussing the lack of trash cans, is that it was bought up to my attention during a
previous interaction that there were not trash cans by the popular areas like the student union and the
Engineering classrooms. Also, this individual was concern that there is a lack of trash cans by the
commuter lounge. The third question, I wanted to focus on how we could get more commuter students
to our events. Lastly, I want every commuter student to feel like they have a great college experience
that is why I am asking how we can make their experience at GCU better.
Please list the questions that you plan to ask students below:
Do you feel safe when coming on and off campus? How you experience any issues?
Do you feel there is a lack of trash cans near popular areas like the Student Union and the Engineering
building?
How can we get more commuter students involved on campus?
How can we improve your GCU experience?
Notes:
Post Interaction:
What were the main concerns and issues raised by students?
The main concerns and issues raised by students were that they do not feel like they know about
various events on campus. Most students felt that there should be an email that goes out with all the
events that week on it. Another issue was they feel like that they need to have more events in the
afternoon early evening, so they can attend. They feel like they will not come back to campus unless it
is a really big event. Another issue that was addressed was installing a left turn signal by the Halo
garage. Most commuter students felt that this would solve the issues of trying to get out of the

The Potential Of Participant Observation
Yes, research varies according to the nature of arguments and their personal information can also be
included in the entire material or changes of the information. For this reason, it will be unethical to
record the information and focus on what is in process to control further.
2. Which method do you think is more likely to produce valid information participant or
nonparticipant observation? Why? The valid information is mostly expected from the grounds of what
are the changes in behaviour and how much responses are ethical. In this regard, the most of the
responses are valid from focus group analysis, lab research and questionnaire as well as interview
studies.
3. Are there any kinds of behaviors that should not be observed? Explain your thinking. If so, give an
example. The behaviors those are immediate after any specific event or the influence from external
parties must not be observed or reported. The management and the ideas for this advancement is
required for all stages.
4. What would you say is the biggest advantage of participant observation? The biggest disadvantage?
The biggest advantage of the participant observation is their sincere behaviour and feeling the
situation accordingly. The disadvantage is looking for the issues those are not related to the field as it
can be the personal biasedness.
5. A major difficulty in observing people is that much that goes on may be missed by the observer. Is
this always true? Are there any ways to decrease what is

Different Schools Of Statutory Interpretation
Introduction and Thesis There are multiple schools of thought when it comes to how courts should
interpret statues and legislation, some schools advocate a literal, textual reading of the relevant statues,
while other schools advocate taking other factors into account when making a decision, factors like
the intent of the legislature when they passed the statue. The case AA v BB provides a good look into
the issue of statutory interpretation because the two different courts that heard the case applied a
different from of statutory interpretation. The lower court stuck to a textual interpretation, whereas the
court of appeal considered the legislative intent behind the relevant statues. This paper will argue that
of the two schools of statutory interpretation applied in the case, textualism and intentionalism, neither
is completely appropriate and that the pragmatic approach to statutory interpretation is the most
appropriate method to use. It will then argue that the decision by the Ontario Court of Appeal in AA v
BB is the more convincing decision as it best aligns with the pragmatic approach.
Point I: Why the pragmatic approach is more appropriate than a strictly textualist or intentionalist
approach.
Textualism is a school of statutory interpretation that relies on the text of the statue to determine the
true intent of the legislature. Textualism is heavily reliant on the plain meaning rule, which essentially
means that when the text of a statue is clear and

require citizens living in the state to be registered to vote. Only U.S. citizens can cast their votes and
this privilege is not meant for green card holders and others nonimmigrants.
One can register to vote if, he or she is a U.S. citizen and if they meet the residency requirements of

to register. So they will need to check their state s voter registration age requirements.

The name and address they provide while registering to vote must match the one on their voter ID
cards or other identification documents they are planning to use at the polls. If necessary, they will

Gendered Violence And The White Ribbon Campaign
Introduction
One of the largest issues in today s society is gendered violence. Gendered violence is violence that
occurs because of the role expectations associated with each gender, as well as the unequal power
relationships between the genders (Defining Gender Based Violence). The more common form of this
is violence against women. One campaign that is working diligently to try and eliminate this problem
is the White Ribbon Campaign. The White Ribbon Campaign is a movement of boys and men
working to end violence against females and promote gender equity. The campaign asks men to wear
white ribbons as a pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women
and girls (White Ribbon). The White Ribbon Campaign has been successful and effective in its efforts
to educate men and boys about gendered violence and is making headway in their pursuance of the
end of violence against women.
The White Ribbon Campaign
The White Ribbon Campaign was began back in 1991. It was formed because of a group of men who
decided it was their responsibility to start involving men in the fight against violence against women.
They urged men to speak out and support this movement (Hobbs 188). The campaign looks
specifically at issues involving violence against women, as that is the main focus of the campaign. The
campaign uses a number of different forms of communication to spread the word of their organization.
They hold multiple conferences about related issues, they are

Analysis Of Before I Fall
Before I Fall directed by Ry Russo Young and written by Maria Maggenti is a teen drama film
released in 2017 that is about a teenage girl who lives the same day over and over again. Despite
having a compelling lead performance played by Zoe Deutch and a powerful soundtrack full of
ballads, Before I Fall still took a turn with a generic plot line, choppy dialogue and cliché. Although I
loved the performance given by Deutch and how she was able to show the characters development

Sam s whole story is that she s a mean girl who realizes that maybe she shouldn t be mean to people.
(by the way it took her too long to figure out that maybe Juliet was the reason she was living the same

stop bullying Juliet or try to befriend her. Instead, she presents this half played, pitiful redemption that
leaves the audience thinking that it was an act of heroism (I begged a differ).
There are moments in Before I Fall where the dialogue lacked intelligence. It was almost as if the
director wanted to be quick and get to the point of creating a movie that deals with time loop, and not
think twice about whether the dialogue should make sense. There s a scene in the movie where Sam is
thinking back on the last 24 hours of her life before the car accident where her and the other three girls
are bullying Juliet, and then she says this line That was forever ago... that was yesterday. There were
reasons that the audience watching this film to think okay that doesn t make sense. Saying something

Connotative Language In Media
Connotative Language in The Media Most words in language have evolved to have at least two
meanings. There is the denotation of a word, which is the literal meaning of the word or its dictionary

certain word or the emotional suggestions relating to it. A word s connotation can differ depending on
context and the region in which it is used. Recently there has been a spike in the amount of
connotative language being used in news headlines. Three headlines that stand out with their obvious
use of connotative language are, NFL kneelers and the left have it all wrong (Fox News, Sept. 27,
2017), The New York Times has a Communism fetish (The Weekly Standard, Sept. 26, 2017), and
Trump has climate change weirdos everywhere freaking out (The American Spectator, Aug. 30, 2017).
These headlines use connotative language specifically to create political and cultural bias with their
readers/viewers. The first headline that is filled with biased connotative language is from Fox News
and states, NFL kneelers and the left have it all wrong. The headline is referring to the recent trend of
NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. The players are doing this as a protest against police
brutality, the oppression of people of color, and the criminal justice system; all of which are important
causes that should be protested. In order to create bias against the protesters

Rhetorical Analysis Of Success Is Counted Sweetest
Rhetorical Analysis Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address and Emily Dickinson s Success is
Counted Sweet, are two inspirational pieces of art that fall under two different types of discourses. The
Second Inaugural Address, is a great example and definition of what Rhetoric is. It encompasses all
four resources of languages argument, appeal, arrangement, and artistic devices. Success is Counted
Sweet, doesn t cover the four resources of language that apply to rhetoric; therefore, it is categorized
as a poem. According to the chapter, rhetoric addresses unresolved issues that do not dictate a
particular outcome and in the process it engages our value commitments. (15). We see how Lincoln s
inaugural speech tries to engage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states how both, the North and South, read the same Bible and pray to the same God, and neither
the North nor South expected for the war the magnitude or the duration which it attained. Lincoln also
maintains an optimistic tone throughout the speech and invokes unity with his parallel structured
sentences. Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest, doesn t cover all four resources of
language. It is a poem that does not call for action but does create an emotional appeal for the people.
Throughout her poem, she created an emotional appeal for success and its value and the desire and
want for success. We see how she creates such emotion when she states, The distant strains of triumph
break, agonizing and clear. What Dickinson means by this is that gaining success can be the most
beautiful accomplishment but at the same time, agonizing to reach. This creates an emotional appeal
for those who are living through the Civil War, making the people have a desire for peace, but they
have to go through bloodshed in the process of gaining success. Emily Dickinson carries out artistic
devices throughout her poem, which also creates an emotional appeal for the audience. She uses
metaphors to describe success by stating, Success is counted sweetest. Dickinson also uses her poem
to recreate what was occurring at the time of the war. She speaks of the purple Host which is the
representation of the Army and capturing the

Analysis Of The Star Spangled Banner
Flag of our Fathers The Star Spangled Banner is the National Anthem of the United States of America.
It is a very important song that represents a free country where anything is possible. Recently the
National Anthem has been the platform for protesting police brutality against African Americans. The
protests have mostly been done during professional football games when players take a knee or sit on
the bench when the Anthem is being played. Obviously, this has caused a controversy as people find it
very disrespectful for being the way to protest. People are upset because they think that the National
Anthem has nothing to do with police brutality and by taking a knee they are disrespecting the people
who have fought to protect this country. The importance of standing for the American National
Anthem comes from respect for the country and those who defend it, pride to be in a free country and
unity of all those protected in a free America. There are many possible solutions such as, players to
donating their time to youth centers of respecting police and working with the police to help them
understand the African American culture better but also the police teaching how important and
dangerous their job is. According to the 36 US Code 301 National Anthem, it does not break any law
to not stand for the National Anthem. The code contains a list of rules that states: When the National
Anthem is being played such as, (A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first
note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; (2) when the flag is not displayed, all
present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were
displayed. The key word is should , so if you don t want to stand for the National Anthem you don t
have too. Some people believe that doesn t matter, as long as they are able to stand they should to
show respect during the National Anthem. There are people who have fought and died for the right to
live in the greatest country in the world. If they don t stand for their country one that they should be
proud to call home, if nothing else you should at least stand for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. I
understand that the players

Essay on Jesse Cleveland Owens
James Cleveland Owens otherwise known as Jesse was an Olympic long jumper and sprinter whose
speed and inspirational defiance of Hitler shocked the world. The 1936 Olympics were held in Berlin
and Adolf Hitler of the Nazi party believed that these Olympic Games would showcase the great skill
of the Aryan (Caucasian) race, and the last person he would expect to show him up would be an
African American man (Barnes 1). With sixty six U.S. Olympic contestants competing in the Games,
the American race was really put on the spot in front of Hitler, the most powerful man in the world

Owens was an underprivileged African American boy that grew up in the south during the early
nineteen hundreds, his chances of making the Olympics were far out of his reach. He was born in
Oakville, Alabama and was the youngest in the family with six brothers and three sisters (Barnes 1).
At the age of nine Owens family moved to Columbus Ohio because of the bad economy and
segregation that was prominent in the south. When Jesse was five he had developed a life threatening
tumor on his chest, but because of his families overwhelming poverty he never received proper
medical care (McCoy 1). However according to McCoy (1), One day Jesse woke up to his mother
Mary standing over him with a sterilized knife and boiling water. She cut the tumor off her baby boy,
causing him to bleed for three days. Fortunately, he survived the amateur surgery. Surprisingly this
surgery performed by his mother was successful and Owens never had issues with the tumor or the
surgery at any time in his life. As a kid Jesse was very shy and it was because of this shyness he
possessed that he is called Jesse Owens today. According to Smith (3), When his new teacher asked

Application For A Management Job
In this case I am about to apply for a management job. One of the requirements for the job is that I
have to be proficient in CAD, but at the time of the application I m only taking classes for CAD. So
the question is, do I still apply knowing that I am not fully qualified for the job. To answer this, we
first need to weigh the facts. First I am more than qualified for the job besides the slight fact that I am
not yet proficient in CAD. So, what s the problem? Well it comes down to ethics. In this situation the
primary stakeholder is the company I am applying for, and that forces me look at the situation and
make a decision. I got two options one lie and say I am proficient in cad, or tell the truth. I know it
sounds like the answer is simple enough right? Just tell the truth right? Well not necessarily. Even
though I am not proficient in CAD, I am still much qualified for the job. So I would still apply for the
job, because I m in the class so I would be ready for the job once I get it. I know the ethical thing to do
is turn down the opportunity for the job, but the question is what would I do. So that why I would
choose to apply for the job. Case 2:

Ecosystem Response Paper
Ecosystem services are defined as the direct and indirect benefits to human well being that are derived
from ecosystems and ecosystem function (Gomez Baggethun and Barton 2013, TEEB 2011), or in
other words, the conditions and processes through which natural ecosystems, and the species that
make them up, sustain and fulfill human life (Daily, 1997, p. 3). The ecosystem service framework
may be used to assess present day function, monitor change over time, and inform future planning,
conservation, and restoration to maximize the ecosystem function and services generated at multiple
scales (Daily et al. 2009; Sukhdev et al. 2010).

In this paper we define such urban landscape as urban coastal fringe. Modeling of the urban coastal
fringe is inherently more complex and nuanced, but in the end may provide a more robust means for
directing goal setting, urban planning, as well as conservation and restoration efforts. There are
several existing ecosystem service models and valuation tools (See Drakou et al. 2014 for review).
Drakou et al. categorize the existing tools into three broad categories, including data cataloguers,
toolkits that allow one to model ecosystem service flows for a site, and a combination of both that are
custom for specific region. Recent efforts have resulted in the development of several models that
assess the impact of development on service flow, including the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem
Services and Tradeoffs (InVEST) model and the Multi scale Integrated Models of Ecosystem Services
(MIMES) model (Boumans and Costanza 2007; Nelson et al. 2009;Gomez Baggethun et al. 2010;
Kareiva et al. 2011; Calvet Mir et al. 2012; Crossman et al. 2013). However, these models are best
applied at a regional scale and do not operate at a scale fine enough to address the services generated
by the urban core. The HERCULES model,

2. Using your knowledge of the pathway of blood, explain the flow of blood through the heart.
Oxygen poor blood fills the right atrium from either the superior or inferior vena cava. Then, that
blood passes through the tricuspid valve and to the right ventricle. The right ventricle fills up 
tricuspid valve closes  right ventricle contracts  pulmonary valve opens  the blood flows into the
pulmonary artery  pulmonary valve closes  pulmonary artery splits into two vessels each going to
the lungs. The oxygen rich blood returns from the lungs and it goes through the pulmonary vein to the
left atrium. When the left atrium is filled with blood, the heart contracts and the blood passes through
the bicuspid valve and into the left ventricle. When the left ventricle is full, the bicuspid valve closes
and the aortic valve opens. This allows the blood into the aorta and once the blood passes the aortic
valve closes. Finally, the blood then has access through the rest of the body by systematic capillaries
 veins  back to the right atrium. *Both sides of the heart are doing this at the same exact time and
contracting/relaxing is what pumps the blood from one place to the other. What would cause his
weakness and shortness of breath? The cause of his weakness and shortness of breath would be
because not enough oxygen rich blood is coming back into the heart. 3. What is the job of the

comparatively byzantine approach to generating money that the site doesn t directly pay. Whatever the

The Style Of Naturalism In White Fang By Jack London
The aim of life was meat. Life itself was meat. Life lived on life. There were the eater and the eaten.
The law was: EAT OR BE EATEN. This quote from author Jack London s novel, White Fang,
portrays the style of naturalism and the theme of natural selection and survival of the fittest. Jack
London was a naturalist writer. He chose a style and theory of representation based on the accurate
depiction of detail; and he held a viewpoint that everything arises from natural properties and causes.
Natural selection is the process in nature by which, according to Darwin s theory of evolution,
organisms that are better adapted to their environment tend to survive longer and pass on their genetic
characteristics or the survival of the fittest. London s fiction work, White Fang, takes a deeper look
into the savagery of the wild, the cruelty of man, and the chance of new beginnings. White Fang is
considered by many to be one of the greatest coming of age novels ever written.
The setting of White Fang, takes place in Yukon Territory and ends in California. The majority of the
novel is set in what London calls the North. This area is a section of Canada buttressed against Alaska.
The historical significance of this area is that the story occurs during the 1890 s Klondike Gold Rush.
This provides a balancing point between the savagery of the wilderness and civilization, by examining
the violent world of animals and the equally violent world of humans. Jack London wrote White Fang
in the Third person. Third person is a method of storytelling in which the narrator is aware of the
feelings and thoughts of all the characters. Jack London especially used the Third person method,
when tracking the life of the character, White Fang, and aiding the reader to know the wolf dog s
thoughts and feelings.
White Fang is the central character and the protagonist of the story. His mother is, Kiche, and is
known as she wolf. Kiche is half wolf and half dog. She escaped from and Indian camp during a
famine. She mated with One Eye, a full wolf, and White Fang came about. White Fang starts his life
in the wild. He becomes more domesticated as the book goes along but still struggles to be the fittest
and surviving among nature, the

Human Rights In Canada
Human rights are the rights one has simply by virtue of being human. They are the highest moral
rights, they regulate the fundamental structures and practices of political life, and in ordinary
circumstances they take priority over other moral, legal, and political claims (Universal Human Rights
in Theory Practice, 2003). A right must be recognized by other people to exist, and must be secured
through human action. It is an entitlement premised on a widely held set of beliefs about the nature of
the entitlement; even if it is not recognized in law, a right emerges from a moral or ideological belief
(Berger, 1981). One of the most sophisticated human rights legal law in the world has been established
by Canadians. Canadians largely defined rights as civil liberties during the 1940s and 1950s, which
meant fundamental freedoms such as speech, association, assembly, religion, press, due process and
voting were recognized. Rhetoric surrounding discrimination was largely confined to racial, religious
and ethnic discrimination at this time. Today however, the language of rights has now been broadened
and appropriated to include an extraordinary range of issues. Discrimination is now banned in
Canadian human rights law on the basis of race, religion, color, creed, sex (sexual harassment,
pregnancy), age, place of origin, nationality, physical and mental disability, marital status, pardoned
conviction, sexual orientation, family status and others. The rights of Aboriginal

Chris Baldick defines rhetoric as the deliberate exploitation of eloquence for the most persuasive
effect . This is certainly seen at work in Coriolanus and Troilus and Cressida, two Jacobean dramas
with war and politics at their centre. In both plays, characters attempt to employ rhetoric as a
persuasive tool for political ends. In Troilus and Cressida, Ulysses aims to use rhetoric and political
machinations to mobilise a war weary army. On the other hand, Coriolanus s reluctance to use, and

Trade Loading
Campbell offered sizable trade discounts near the end of accounting period to entice customers to
make product purchases that they would otherwise defer. By this way, a company can use price
concessions to prop up its reported revenues and profits. Plaintiffs pointed out that PwC auditors were
aware of the excessive trade loading by their client and this should have been a red flag for PwC to
investigate the possibility that their client was fraudulently misrepresenting its operating results. The

the assertion that PwC should have considered those heavy sales a red flag. Instead, he pointed out
that PwC s workpapers referred to the large, period ending sales as a traditional trend in Campbell s
operating results.
This traditional trend may apply to Campbell s business environment, but may not to other industry.
An auditor had better understand the industry environment he or she involves in to judge whether
disproportionately sales near the end of quarterly reporting periods are normal or not.

Reflection About Love
Driven by our most basic human instincts, the act of finding love is often associated with sacredness
and is frequently regarded as a divine act that is to be cherished. The notion of love is a universal
principle that is responsible for the existence and preservation of society, lays out the foundation for
all human actions, undergirds the innate behaviour of human beings, and can be regarded as the
aspiration and source of all human striving. As a result of the intrinsic ability and humanistic quality
of giving and feeling love, it is without question that this universal feeling is the supreme concern of
all human beings. Symposium is a unique literary work and a transcendent masterpiece by the
venerable Plato, written on the foundation of one of the most prominent and basic themes and
primitive subject matters known to mankind love. In this classical Ancient Greek disquisition, six
distinguished Athenians employ story, lyric, and verse in the form of speeches, to convey a variety of
legends and motifs regarding the nature, function, and capacity of love (Eros). These ancient
dissertations centered around the phenomenon of love, present sublime subject matter, abstract content
and oratorical power that has seized my mind, stirred my thoughts, and allowed me to deeply examine
my personal insights regarding love.
In the English language and Western culture, love is a remarkably far reaching, extensive term that can

Super Ego In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
Freud, developed a way of thinking that broke down the mind into the id, ego, and super ego. In
William Golding s book, Lord of the Flies this theory explains the boys descent into savagery because
of the uneven balance of the egos. The id represented the instinctual desires that required immediate

A time he balanced the id and the super ego is when the council is telling Ralph to step down as chief

would have instantly stepped down, and the id would ve shot down any rebellions. Ralph considers
what is best for the group, making him a plain ego. Another tim this connection is visible is when
Ralph goes back to get Piggy s glasses from jack and says, I ve come to see about the fire... and Piggy

Car manufacturers need to create a system for seatbelts so that all vehicle operaters have ensured

Australia s Lack Of International Competitiveness
External stability is an aim of government policy that seeks to promote sustainability on the external
accounts so that Australia can service its foreign liabilities in the medium to long run and avoid
currency volatility. Australia has persistently had a high CAD around 4.2% of GDP since the mid
1980s. Australia has also experienced a rising terms of trade to 130.0 in late 2011 due to the
commodities boom as a result of the industrialization of the BRICs, whereby Australia has
experienced high export and national income, but has resulted in less competitiveness in other sectors
due to the high AUD, causing the Dutch disease whereby non commodity sectors lose
competitiveness. Similarly is can be seen in its narrow export base whereby in 2012 13 one third of
export revenue came from coal and iron ore ($96 billion from 300 billion), furthermore 57% of
Australian export revenue is made up of mineral and energy exports, whereby Australian growth has
been largely fuelled by commodity exports and mining boom. Australia s lack of international
competitiveness as a result of geographical location and small population, as well as the decline of the
manufacturing industry to overseas low cost producers, with the problem being further increased by
the high AUD exchange rate, as a result of the mining boom. The fall in domestic production has led
to an increase in imports and a fall in productive innovation compared to advanced economies has led
to a rise in CAD. The growth of

Compare And Contrast Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address
Lincoln s presidency is typically characterized by the abolition of slavery. While important, it often
overshadows other objectives he had for the country. After Lincoln issued The Emancipation
Proclamation, he had new plans for America. Lincoln weaved rhetorical strategies into his second
inaugural address to promote his vision for the future of the nation. As Civil War was nearing an end,
Lincoln s goal was to create a unified nation of peace. He hoped the Union and Confederacy could put
aside their differences and hatreds and reestablish harmony.
The differences between the North and South were extreme. Lincoln s goal was to show that the
Union and Confederacy had similarities that could foster peace between them. First he contrasted the
two, saying the North aimed to save the Union, while the south aimed to destroy it. He also contrasted
their belief of slavery on a federal level. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He compared the religious backgrounds of both sides, saying they prayed to the same god, and read
the same bible. Lincoln intended this to pacify either side, since religion was common ground between
them. This religious allusion promoted Lincoln s vision, since the Union and Confederacy could use
religious similarity as a foundation for peace. It also helped connect them, since many people bond
over shared religious beliefs. Lincoln also used biblical references to give an explanation of why
peace was possible. By the will of the Almighty, the Civil War was a necessary woe to compensate for
the offense of slavery. The conflict over slavery was the cause of the war and the cause of the nation s
internal chaos. However, The Emancipation Proclamation ended the offense and ended the initial
conflict. Lincoln believed this meant the United States could reunify. His reasoning promoted his
peaceful vision of the future, since slavery had ended, war was no longer the will of the

A Multi System Disease Of Unknown Etiology
Sarcoidosis is a multi system disease of unknown etiology. The diagnosis is confirmed when non
caseating granulomas are identified in tissue biopsies, predominantly from the lung parenchyma or the
mediastinal lymph nodes and is supported by compatible clinical and radiological features. [1] Cardiac
manifestations may occur in isolation or may precede, follow or occur concurrently with the
involvement of the lungs and other organs. All components of the heart may potentially be involved.
The most common are conduction abnormalities leading to bradyarrhythmias and syncope, ventricular
tachycardias and the development of congestive heart failure. [2, 3]
The location and extent of granulomatous infiltration accounts for variations in cardiac ... Show more

[5, 6] Japanese Ministry of Health (JMH) published criteria are the current established method for non
invasive clinical diagnosis. [2, 5] Imaging modalities suggested by the JMH criteria include gallium
67 scintigraphy and late gadolinium enhanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance (LGE CMR). [2]
However, only 5 10% of patients with sarcoidosis present with clinical evidence of myocardial
involvement based on the above criteria while autopsy studies indicate that cardiac involvement is
present in up to 25 50% of cases implying that there is a significant proportion of sub clinical cardiac
sarcoidosis not detected with the existing criteria. [1, 7] Nuclear imaging modalities have shown
significant advances and rapid growth in the field of the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac
involvement in sarcoidosis. Promising results show high sensitivity for identifying pathophysiological
activity at an early stage before structural changes have occurred as well as value of reproducible
activity quantification when emphasizing in therapy monitoring. Although gallium 67 scintigraphy has
traditionally been used in sarcoidosis patients, cardiac positron emission tomography (PET) along
with myocardial perfusion scans have shown superiority that mostly includes higher sensitivity in

Wood Charcoal Analysis
Initially, this presentation was aimed to clarify how the hierarchy is displayed in a southern Coast
Salish Late Period plank house and Dionisio Point Provincial Park. She used Wood Charcoal Analysis
to identify wood remains in the archaeological assemblage. According to the speaker, identification of
a wood sample could communicate some information about ecology, environment, human behavior,
tool production, and fire. She distinguished two types of wood, including hardwood (angiosperm) and
softwood (gymnosperm). She also specified that this work needed a great commitment and a lot of
practice as each species of wood could have more than 40 distinct characteristics. The speaker
highlighted that microscopy is often used in paleoethnobotany to ... Show more content on

This presentation also showed the differences in the educational experiences of LGBTQ students and
their cisgendered peers that are cultural context and political ideology within a particular geographical
zone. In her research, Hannah used Judith Butler s performance identity theory, the Reciprocal model
of identity, and Sapir Whorf hypothesis. In terms of methodology, she utilized interview samples that
were semi structured with open ended questions covering attendance, dress code, bullying, LGBTQ
safe spaces/GSAs, and extracurricular activities. The three hypothesis affecting the likelihood of a
GSA were developed by the speaker; what is more, the hypothesis number four served as an additional
variable stating that the higher is the EDR, the lower is the chance of adoption of a GSAs. Finally, it
was admitted that faculty and staff made a significant difference in the operation of policy in the
schools, that failure to recognize anti LGBTQ language as bullying causes a need for further study,
and that the transitory nature of global student accommodation required more in depth linguistic

Who Moved My Cheese Reflection
As the days go by, we notice our world is constantly changing and evolving; for better or for worse.
Many individual cope well with their lives changing, but for others, (like myself), have a harder time
adapting to a new routine. A lot of us enjoy living a life style that is expected every day, furthermore,
we live happier and comfortably. In 1998, Dr. Spencer Johnson introduced Who Moved My Cheese, to
the world a fable on how to adapt to major chances to one s life and to do so in a more positive
attitude. The book as influenced many people, such as well respected broadcaster Charlie Jones of
NBC. He admits that Dr. Johnson s book may have saved his carrier. Jones is very familiar with
broadcasting Track and Field events at Olympic games, he then found out that his boss had removed
him from his familiar events and was then assign to broadcast swimming and diving, a sport he knew
very little about. Jones grew doubtful and frustrated with the adjustment of his career. Like most
people, he did that adapt well to change. His anger affected everything thing he did, including himself,
he became very unhappy with his job that he enjoyed doing. Jones then heard Dr. Johnson s successful
and life changing story of Who moved my Cheese. He then altered his attitude and outlook on his new
way of living. He stated that doing something new; out of his old routine made him feel youthful and
refreshed. His boss then recognized his new positive energy and attitude, and he soon got better,
beneficial assignments for work. He became more successful than ever and was then inducted into Pro
Football s Hall of Fame, Broadcaster s alley. This domino effect can demonstrate how such an
impactable book like Who Move my Cheese can do to someone. From difficulties at work, or even
struggling in a relationship, the book can open anyone s life to a new positive beginning. Dr. Johnson
is a strong believer that his novel can impact and touch the lives of countless people. The book is
divided into 3 sections. The first section shows a former classmate reunion, they discuss how much
their life has changed out of high school. The second section is the focus of Who Moved My Cheese?
At last, the third section

Essay on Star of the Sea, what kind of man is Lord Kingscourt
Assignment 1
Star of the Sea by Joseph o Connor is a text set during the Irish Potato Famine, in 1847. The Irish
Potato famine of the 1840s was the greatest social catastrophe of 19th century Europe, yet inspired
surprisingly little imaginative writing. (Eagleton, 2002) However this book has been described by the
Sunday Times as having compelling characters and a dizzying narrative (Heaney, 2007) This
compelling story is set around a wealthy, turned bankrupt, land owner and his family who flee to
America, the promised land, in search of a new life. They are joined on this journey by a range of
other passengers whose previous lives are in entwined together in a past that won t let them go. The
book has been written as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During a conversation between them regarding their nanny, Mary Duane, Lord Kingscourt is
concerned with the nanny s recent behaviour, however when he says that perhaps she is homesick
(Ibid, Page 7), his wife laughs at this and replies by saying I hardly think so. (Ibid, Page 7) He is a
kind, considerate man who does not have normal upper class tendnacies towards other people. Lord
Kingscourt finds the behaviour of the irish upper class hard to stomach (Ibid, Page 8), he doesn t like
the way the prosperous Irish were never done lampooning their rural countrymen (Ibid, Page 8). The
upper class usually find it acceptable to make fun of the lower classes, it is a form of humour to them.
However Lord Kingscourt does not hold this view, he cares about the people around him, regardless of
where they have came from or how much money they have. Lord Kingscourt has in fact often envied
them, (Ibid, Page 10). The previous night Lord Kingscourt had observed a member of steerage, either
drunk or half mad in chains. The Methodist minister told him the man had been locked up for being
drunk and violent. As he knew of the man, from Clifden, where he would sell turnips and kale on a

Creating High Performance Organizations
Creating High Performance Organizations Introduction Its 7:30 on a July morning, and already a
crowd has gathered for the opening of Trader Joe s newest outpost, in Manhattan s Chelsea
neighborhood. The waiting shoppers chat about their favorite Trader Joe s foods, and a woman in line
launches into a monologue comparing the retailer s West Coast and East Coast locations. Another
customer suggests that the chain will be good for Chelsea, even though the area is already brimming
with places to buy groceries, including Whole Foods and several upscale food boutiques (Kowitt,
2010). Trader Joe s has taken a typical trip to the grocery store and turned it into an extravagant
experience. All the while they ve figure out how to keep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Table 1 illustrates a model developed by The Institute for Corporate Productivity and is titled The Five
Domains of High Performance * Strategy An organization s human capital must be aligned to the
business strategy so that every employee is focused on the same goal. * Leadership Leaders must
communicate performance expectations, develop and promote the right people and convince
employees that their behaviors are critical to success. * Talent HR strategy must be developed around
the business model to ensure that the proper human capital components are put in place to drive
business value. * Culture The values and beliefs at all levels and in all departments must be aligned,
and existing and future leaders should be role models for this culture. * Market Every employee in the
organization should understand the marketplace and customers and should know how his or her job
impacts business results. Table 1 Trader Joe s is an exemplary example of putting this model in to
action. They build their organization by first investing in their workforce. They first begin by seeking
out a particular type of employee by customizing the job desription to the type of corporate culture
they wish to encompass. They look for attributes such as ambitious and adventurous, enjoy smiling

Amazing Grace And Twilight Analysis
Segregation is one of the many themes that connect Amazing Grace and Twilight. Segregation is the
most prominent problem discussed in both pieces. It is also shown in a variety of ways, through
economic class, race, and by making physical and mental being examples. People in power choosing
to ignore a problem that has arisen in its people.
From what I ve read, people are not even attempting to hide their judgement, they make it clear that
they see people of color and who live in poverty as a problem. One they do not want to deal with. The
lucky majority segregate themselves from minorities without caring about the affect it will have. The
apparent consensus of the powerful is that the ghetto is to be preserved as a perpetual catch basin for

But it isn t only language because no one talks that way to a rich lady who does not speak English. Go
downtown. You ll see what I mean. Sometimes these women come from Italy or Argentina or from
Spain. They go in the stores in their beautiful clothes. They re treated like celebrities. It isn t the
language. It s skin color and being poor. This is something more than disrespect. It s as if they wish
that you did not exist so they would not have to be bothered. (page 46 Amazing Grace) A young girl is
explaining how she and her family is viewed in the eyes of people who work in upper class shops. She
can hear the annoyance in their voices, and how they wished her people would go back to where they
came from. But if there is a woman with money, who is from a richer area like Europe, then workers
wait on their every need. It is showing that they have no patience for those who look a certain way
because social segregation has gotten so bad, especially in New York. Segregation is forced down
these people s throats, everywhere they go people are harassing them or darting dirty looks for being
in certain neighborhoods or shops. People are not even attempting to hide their judgement, they make
it clear that they see these people as a problem and one they do not want to deal with. They segregate

called taxonomy. The taxonomy for this species is
Kingdom: Animalia

Sub Phylum: Vertebrata
Class: Chrondrichthyes
Sub Class: Elasmobranchii
Order: Lamniformes

class Chrondrichthyes includes cartilaginous fish, which are fish that has a skeleton made of cartilage
rather than bones. The family Lamnidae includes sharks as the white shark and mackerel sharks.
These sharks are usually very large and can swim really fast. The genus is the group before the species

Training Facilities For Rapid City Essay
The small town of Rapid City, South Dakota has a population of nearly 71,000 residents. The main
employer to Rapid City is home to roughly 3,500 military veterans located at Ellsworth Air Force
Base. When the term military comes to mind, an assortment of words come to mind. Deployment.
Family. War. Aircraft. To some though, the word fitness comes to mind first. Everyone knows that in
order to be a member of the United States military, you must be fit. Every member of the Armed
Forces know that they can be called upon at any time to perform an assortment of tasks, and being
physically fit is a priority. Nearly every military base has a gym or fitness facility, but who wants to
visit the base after hours to work out? How often do you catch yourself watching the clock, waiting
for the hour hand to strike four so that you can check out for the day? Because of this, fitness facilities
throughout the city is a hot topic amongst military veterans. Towards the end of 2015, Rapid City was
home to three small scale fitness centers. Because of the lack of choices, of course it made sense to
charge steep prices. In December of 2015, that all changed with the arrival of Planet Fitness. Planet
Fitness, founded in 1992, focused on reducing prices to compete against the other well known brands.
The organization is an American health and wellness franchise that focuses on a casual, yet personal,
gym experience with no judgment or discomfort. Their no judgment attitude

The first reason is to know what you would be needing to add on your grocery list and the second
reason is to know how much space is available to place your groceries after. After you checked the
availability of the space that your cabinets or fridge has, you also have to start checking what is need
to be added on your grocery list. While doing this, make sure you have your pen and a paper to write it
down. However, that will still not be the final list of your groceries yet. Those are just the list that you

On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopts the Declaration of Independence, marked as the official statement of the American position (202). Thirteen of American colonies severed their political connection to Great Britain. The Declaration summarized the colonists motivations for seeking freedom an independence. They are used in everyday life, algebra is used in financial planning, physical health and cooking, and algorithms are used in driving and finding the shortest path, scheduling and in computer programming. The history of algebra dates back to 1800 BC, in countries such as India, China, Greece, Persia and England. With the understanding that algebra and algorithms have a huge impact on our lives today, we will take a look at the history of algebra and algorithms, notable people that helped in their creation and the things that influenced what we know today about algebra and algorithms. This paper will go into depth in the influences of Islam on the creation and growth of algebra and algorithms as separate branches of mathematics. We will look at the Golden age of Islam and how it influenced many scientists, astronomers, geographers and physicians as well as mathematicians. Also we will take a look at one notable mathematician of that time, Al Khwarizmi who created algebra and algorithms, who is known as the father of algebra. The work of mathematicians and scientists like Al Khwarizmi in 820 CE is the result of the influences of Islam on the culture and knowledge of a specific time in our world, which is also known as the Golden Age of Islam. It was during that time that Al Khwarizmi wrote the Compendious book of balancing and calculations from which the word Algebra is derived from. Later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The up and coming belief that the teenage years represent a stage of life split from both childhood and adulthood. The publishing houses started to publish quite a few chain of books aimed at young adults and also mature audiences. Through these fiction there began a makeover into what contemporary readers think as young adult literature. • 6. Analysis Of The Book The First Ones The First Ones 1. Introduction Patrick Rothfuss, author of The Names of the Wind, said this about words, Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts (Rothfuss, ch.86). What are words? Words are powerful. They have meaning. Words are defined as ways feelings are express and influence is spread. Throughout history, questions like, What is justice? and How do we justify what is just or good? have popped up in human minds and Plato and Aristotle were the first philosophers to answer these questions. 2. Plato 2.1. His Life To many people, Plato was known as the first writer of philosophy. Plato was born in Athens in 429 BC (Plato Biography, egs.edu). His birth name was Aristocles and gained the nickname Platon later on. He had two brothers named Adeimantus and Glaucon (Plato Biography, egs.edu). When Plato met Socrates, he adopted his philosophy and discussed about virtue. From 409 BC to 404 BC, Plato was in military service during the Peloponnesian War, which was a war between Athens and Sparta (Plato Biography, egs.edu). After the war, Plato joined the Athenian politics, but shortly left because Socrates, Plato s mentor, was accused of not recognizing the gods of the state and sentenced to death (Plato Biography, egs.edu). Shortly after, Plato left Athens and traveled the world learning and teaching (Plato Biography, egs.edu). In 387 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. France, China Intertwined with France s continual change to government and Republics is their culture of desiring a hero. After the French revolution, Napoleon was voted in as the emperor of France. Napoleon was a war hero after the French revolution and the citizens of France believed he could be the savior that France needed. Because of the hero worship culture in France, Napoleon was given dictatorial powers. Additionally, the French citizens showed the yearning for a savior after World War Two when General Charles de Gaulle became head of the government. In 1958 the French generals demanded that de Gaulle be named head of the government, and if not they would land paratroopers in Paris and take over the city. The president had no choice and the parliament ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... China has had twelve different constitutions since 1911. The most recent constitution came to be in 1982, and in theory it gives a serious amount of power to the National People s Congress (NPC). The NPC is a group that is elected by the provincial people s assemblies who are in turn elected by lowering ranking officials. The constitution states that the NPC is the highest Organ of state power . The constitution also gives the NPC the power to amend the constitution; supervise its enforcement; enact and amend laws; ratify and abrogate treaties; approve the state budget and plans for national economic and social development; elect and impeach top officials of the state and judiciary; and supervise the work of the State Council, the State Central Military Commission, the Supreme People s Court, and the Supreme People s Procuratorate . However, in reality the NPC serves mostly as a rubber stamp for Party decisions. One example of this is the NPC s right to elect party officials such as the President and Vice President. Technically the NPC has these rights, it is the CPC that actually appoints these positions and the NPC just simply agrees with the Party s decisions. A driving reason that the NPC has so much theoretical power, yet does not have any power in reality is that many NPC deputies are members of the CPC or are state officials or civil servants. China rejects the principle of separation of power, and this allows for NPC deputies to hold positions in these other branches of government. The NPC is designed to oversee the other branches of government that they are usually in, therefore, many members of the NPC are overseeing themselves. According to a leading Chinese media organization, 85% of the three thousand NPC members hold positions in other branches of the government. That number clearly shows why the NPC does not use any of their power, because they are overseeing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. When Someone Thinks Of Interrogation Techniques Their Mind When someone thinks of interrogation techniques their mind gravitates towards the cliché good cop bad cop routine. It is a classic calling card in stories and films alike where one cop intimidates the suspect and another is sympathetic towards them. However, real life interrogations are of course more complicated than they are portrayed in film. This paper will seek to learn more about the fundamental techniques that detectives utilize in the real world to incriminate suspects. The interrogation process is one of the most important phases of the justice system. It demands many aspects such as, the investigation of crime, the apprehension of offenders, the restoration of order, and the deterrence of future crime (Police Interrogation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal is to create a connection psychologically with the suspect. Therefore, the interrogator must connect with them on a personal level, for instance, through engaging in small talk. Small talk helps to push things forward as it contributes to the previously mentioned idea of creating an illusion. It is at this time where the interrogator is engaging with the suspect in a friendly manner so that they feel more comfortable, and the interrogator is viewed as nonthreatening. It is intended to put the suspect at ease (Police Interrogation and American Justice) and thus make the interrogator more relatable. The second step is to acknowledge their rights; Miranda Waiver. Detectives are legally bound to inform the suspect of the Miranda Waiver; the right to remain silent and that anything they say or do can be used against them in court. If by any chance a detective forgets to do this, any statements cannot be used against him and are excluded from evidence at trial (Police Interrogation and American Justice). At this stage the best outcome for the interrogator is for the suspect to waive their rights for a lawyer, that way they do not have to deal with a lawyer. The third stage is when the interrogation process actually happens. During this process the detective is no longer asking questions but instead accusing the suspect of the crime committed. The idea here is to convince the suspect that they have evidence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for... An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for the Lord In Barn Burning, Faulkner s usual style of long sentences and detailed descriptions continues. Although the run on sentences are not quite as complicated or abundant as those of the other Faulkner works we have read, I still found myself wondering to some extent what the story was really about. Was it just about a bitter man s spitefulness toward Colonel de Spain as a result of his jealousy of the colonel s status? Or was there more to it? I also was left wondering why Faulkner did not refer to Sarty by name most of the time, but rather as the boy. Did he want the reader to be less identified with Sarty even though he was the narrator? Did he want his reader to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faulkner uses he said to connotate the dialogue, but since there are two he characters in this particular case, it is difficult to figure out which one Faulkner is referring to. On a different note, I did notice that Faulkner once again placed several references and emphasis on eyes, especially the father s. On page 16, the narrator says the gray eyes glinted coldly in reference to the father s eyes. The father s cold eyes are again described on page 19. The reference to people s eyes remingded me of descriptions of Dilsey s eyes from The Sound and the Fury and Charlotte s eyes from The Wild Palms. I thought it was interesting to see the recurrence of emphasis on the character s eyes. Shingles for the Lord much easier to read than even Barn Burning. The story was very straight foward and simplified, unlike much of Faulkner s other work we have read. I found myself reading through it very quickly without having to stop to reread something. The language was easy to understand, the characters were clearly identified, and there was not an abundance of run on sentences. I found Pap to be a quite intriguing character. It was strange that every action he took was motivated by spite and his contempt for the other characters, much like the father from Barn Burning. The two men almost sound as though they could be the same character. The story is told from the familiar first person viewpoint of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Reaction Paper On Pre-Interaction Pre Interaction: What information are you seeking to gain from this interaction? During this interaction, I am hoping to gain information about various topics on campus. The following topics include: Public Safety, lack of trash cans, how to get commuter students more involved, and how can we improve the GCU experience for commuter students. The reason, I bought up discussing about Public Safety, is that commuter students are the ones who constantly are walking to and from the Halo and 29th Avenue garages and I just want to see if there has been any issues. The reason, I plan on discussing the lack of trash cans, is that it was bought up to my attention during a previous interaction that there were not trash cans by the popular areas like the student union and the Engineering classrooms. Also, this individual was concern that there is a lack of trash cans by the commuter lounge. The third question, I wanted to focus on how we could get more commuter students to our events. Lastly, I want every commuter student to feel like they have a great college experience that is why I am asking how we can make their experience at GCU better. Please list the questions that you plan to ask students below: Do you feel safe when coming on and off campus? How you experience any issues? Do you feel there is a lack of trash cans near popular areas like the Student Union and the Engineering building? How can we get more commuter students involved on campus? How can we improve your GCU experience? Notes: Post Interaction: What were the main concerns and issues raised by students? The main concerns and issues raised by students were that they do not feel like they know about various events on campus. Most students felt that there should be an email that goes out with all the events that week on it. Another issue was they feel like that they need to have more events in the afternoon early evening, so they can attend. They feel like they will not come back to campus unless it is a really big event. Another issue that was addressed was installing a left turn signal by the Halo garage. The Potential Of Participant Observation Yes, research varies according to the nature of arguments and their personal information can also be included in the entire material or changes of the information. For this reason, it will be unethical to record the information and focus on what is in process to control further. 2. Which method do you think is more likely to produce valid information participant or nonparticipant observation? Why? The valid information is mostly expected from the grounds of what are the changes in behaviour and how much responses are ethical. In this regard, the most of the responses are valid from focus group analysis, lab research and questionnaire as well as interview studies. 3. Are there any kinds of behaviors that should not be observed? Explain your thinking. If so, give an example. The behaviors those are immediate after any specific event or the influence from external parties must not be observed or reported. The management and the ideas for this advancement is required for all stages. 4. What would you say is the biggest advantage of participant observation? The biggest disadvantage? The biggest advantage of the participant observation is their sincere behaviour and feeling the situation accordingly. The disadvantage is looking for the issues those are not related to the field as it can be the personal biasedness. 5. The Congress doesn t out into consideration on how every decision will create a ripple effect on the citizens of America. Congress has so much so much power, then why is it so dysfunctional? • 13. Different Schools Of Statutory Interpretation Introduction and Thesis There are multiple schools of thought when it comes to how courts should interpret statues and legislation, some schools advocate a literal, textual reading of the relevant statues, while other schools advocate taking other factors into account when making a decision, factors like the intent of the legislature when they passed the statue. The case AA v BB provides a good look into the issue of statutory interpretation because the two different courts that heard the case applied a different from of statutory interpretation. The lower court stuck to a textual interpretation, whereas the court of appeal considered the legislative intent behind the relevant statues. This paper will argue that of the two schools of statutory interpretation applied in the case, textualism and intentionalism, neither is completely appropriate and that the pragmatic approach to statutory interpretation is the most appropriate method to use. It will then argue that the decision by the Ontario Court of Appeal in AA v BB is the more convincing decision as it best aligns with the pragmatic approach. Point I: Why the pragmatic approach is more appropriate than a strictly textualist or intentionalist approach. Textualism is a school of statutory interpretation that relies on the text of the statue to determine the true intent of the legislature. Textualism is heavily reliant on the plain meaning rule, which essentially means that when the text of a statue is clear and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gendered violence is violence that occurs because of the role expectations associated with each gender, as well as the unequal power relationships between the genders (Defining Gender Based Violence). The more common form of this is violence against women. One campaign that is working diligently to try and eliminate this problem is the White Ribbon Campaign. The White Ribbon Campaign has been successful and effective in its efforts to educate men and boys about gendered violence and is making headway in their pursuance of the end of violence against women. The White Ribbon Campaign The White Ribbon Campaign was began back in 1991. It was formed because of a group of men who decided it was their responsibility to start involving men in the fight against violence against women. They urged men to speak out and support this movement (Hobbs 188). The campaign looks specifically at issues involving violence against women, as that is the main focus of the campaign. Despite having a compelling lead performance played by Zoe Deutch and a powerful soundtrack full of ballads, Before I Fall still took a turn with a generic plot line, choppy dialogue and cliché. Although I loved the performance given by Deutch and how she was able to show the characters development through emotions and her acting, that still doesn t mean the movie was perfect. Instead, she presents this half played, pitiful redemption that leaves the audience thinking that it was an act of heroism (I begged a differ). There are moments in Before I Fall where the dialogue lacked intelligence. It was almost as if the director wanted to be quick and get to the point of creating a movie that deals with time loop, and not think twice about whether the dialogue should make sense. • 20. Connotative Language In Media Connotative Language in The Media Most words in language have evolved to have at least two meanings. There is the denotation of a word, which is the literal meaning of the word or its dictionary definition. Also, all words carry a connotation, which refers to the associations that are connected to a certain word or the emotional suggestions relating to it. A word s connotation can differ depending on context and the region in which it is used. Recently there has been a spike in the amount of connotative language being used in news headlines. Three headlines that stand out with their obvious use of connotative language are, NFL kneelers and the left have it all wrong (Fox News, Sept. 27, 2017), The New York Times has a Communism fetish (The Weekly Standard, Sept. 26, 2017), and Trump has climate change weirdos everywhere freaking out (The American Spectator, Aug. 30, 2017). These headlines use connotative language specifically to create political and cultural bias with their readers/viewers. Rhetorical Analysis Of Success Is Counted Sweetest Rhetorical Analysis Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address and Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweet, are two inspirational pieces of art that fall under two different types of discourses. Success is Counted Sweet, doesn t cover the four resources of language that apply to rhetoric; therefore, it is categorized as a poem. Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest, doesn t cover all four resources of language. It is a poem that does not call for action but does create an emotional appeal for the people. Throughout her poem, she created an emotional appeal for success and its value and the desire and want for success. We see how she creates such emotion when she states, The distant strains of triumph break, agonizing and clear. What Dickinson means by this is that gaining success can be the most beautiful accomplishment but at the same time, agonizing to reach. This creates an emotional appeal for those who are living through the Civil War, making the people have a desire for peace, but they have to go through bloodshed in the process of gaining success. Emily Dickinson carries out artistic devices throughout her poem, which also creates an emotional appeal for the audience. • 22. Analysis Of The Star Spangled Banner Flag of our Fathers The Star Spangled Banner is the National Anthem of the United States of America. It is a very important song that represents a free country where anything is possible. Recently the National Anthem has been the platform for protesting police brutality against African Americans. The protests have mostly been done during professional football games when players take a knee or sit on the bench when the Anthem is being played. Obviously, this has caused a controversy as people find it very disrespectful for being the way to protest. People are upset because they think that the National Anthem has nothing to do with police brutality and by taking a knee they are disrespecting the people who have fought to protect this country. The importance of standing for the American National Anthem comes from respect for the country and those who defend it, pride to be in a free country and unity of all those protected in a free America. There are many possible solutions such as, players to donating their time to youth centers of respecting police and working with the police to help them understand the African American culture better but also the police teaching how important and dangerous their job is. According to the 36 US Code 301 National Anthem, it does not break any law to not stand for the National Anthem. The code contains a list of rules that states: When the National Anthem is being played such as, (A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; (2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed. The key word is should , so if you don t want to stand for the National Anthem you don t have too. Some people believe that doesn t matter, as long as they are able to stand they should to show respect during the National Anthem. There are people who have fought and died for the right to live in the greatest country in the world. If they don t stand for their country one that they should be proud to call home, if nothing else you should at least stand for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. In this situation the primary stakeholder is the company I am applying for, and that forces me look at the situation and make a decision. Using your knowledge of the pathway of blood, explain the flow of blood through the heart. Oxygen poor blood fills the right atrium from either the superior or inferior vena cava. Then, that blood passes through the tricuspid valve and to the right ventricle. The right ventricle fills up  tricuspid valve closes  right ventricle contracts  pulmonary valve opens  the blood flows into the pulmonary artery  pulmonary valve closes  pulmonary artery splits into two vessels each going to the lungs. The oxygen rich blood returns from the lungs and it goes through the pulmonary vein to the left atrium. When the left atrium is filled with blood, the heart contracts and the blood passes through the bicuspid valve and into the left ventricle. When the left ventricle is full, the bicuspid valve closes and the aortic valve opens. This allows the blood into the aorta and once the blood passes the aortic valve closes. Finally, the blood then has access through the rest of the body by systematic capillaries  veins  back to the right atrium. *Both sides of the heart are doing this at the same exact time and contracting/relaxing is what pumps the blood from one place to the other. • 28. The Style Of Naturalism In White Fang By Jack London The aim of life was meat. Life itself was meat. Life lived on life. There were the eater and the eaten. The law was: EAT OR BE EATEN. This quote from author Jack London s novel, White Fang, portrays the style of naturalism and the theme of natural selection and survival of the fittest. Jack London was a naturalist writer. He chose a style and theory of representation based on the accurate depiction of detail; and he held a viewpoint that everything arises from natural properties and causes. Natural selection is the process in nature by which, according to Darwin s theory of evolution, organisms that are better adapted to their environment tend to survive longer and pass on their genetic characteristics or the survival of the fittest. London s fiction work, White Fang, takes a deeper look into the savagery of the wild, the cruelty of man, and the chance of new beginnings. White Fang is considered by many to be one of the greatest coming of age novels ever written. The setting of White Fang, takes place in Yukon Territory and ends in California. The majority of the novel is set in what London calls the North. This area is a section of Canada buttressed against Alaska. The historical significance of this area is that the story occurs during the 1890 s Klondike Gold Rush. This provides a balancing point between the savagery of the wilderness and civilization, by examining the violent world of animals and the equally violent world of humans. Jack London wrote White Fang in the Third person. Third person is a method of storytelling in which the narrator is aware of the feelings and thoughts of all the characters. Jack London especially used the Third person method, when tracking the life of the character, White Fang, and aiding the reader to know the wolf dog s thoughts and feelings. White Fang is the central character and the protagonist of the story. His mother is, Kiche, and is known as she wolf. Kiche is half wolf and half dog. • 29. Human Rights In Canada Human rights are the rights one has simply by virtue of being human. They are the highest moral rights, they regulate the fundamental structures and practices of political life, and in ordinary circumstances they take priority over other moral, legal, and political claims (Universal Human Rights in Theory Practice, 2003). A right must be recognized by other people to exist, and must be secured through human action. It is an entitlement premised on a widely held set of beliefs about the nature of the entitlement; even if it is not recognized in law, a right emerges from a moral or ideological belief (Berger, 1981). One of the most sophisticated human rights legal law in the world has been established by Canadians. Canadians largely defined rights as civil liberties during the 1940s and 1950s, which meant fundamental freedoms such as speech, association, assembly, religion, press, due process and voting were recognized. Rhetoric surrounding discrimination was largely confined to racial, religious and ethnic discrimination at this time. Today however, the language of rights has now been broadened and appropriated to include an extraordinary range of issues. Trade Loading Campbell offered sizable trade discounts near the end of accounting period to entice customers to make product purchases that they would otherwise defer. By this way, a company can use price concessions to prop up its reported revenues and profits. Plaintiffs pointed out that PwC auditors were aware of the excessive trade loading by their client and this should have been a red flag for PwC to investigate the possibility that their client was fraudulently misrepresenting its operating results. The judge agree with the plaintiffs that PwC s workpapers revealed the firm was aware of Campbell s disproportionately sales near the end of quarterly reporting periods. However, the he disagreed with the assertion that PwC should have considered those heavy sales a red flag. Instead, he pointed out that PwC s workpapers referred to the large, period ending sales as a traditional trend in Campbell s operating results. This traditional trend may apply to Campbell s business environment, but may not to other industry. • 34. Reflection About Love Driven by our most basic human instincts, the act of finding love is often associated with sacredness and is frequently regarded as a divine act that is to be cherished. The notion of love is a universal principle that is responsible for the existence and preservation of society, lays out the foundation for all human actions, undergirds the innate behaviour of human beings, and can be regarded as the aspiration and source of all human striving. As a result of the intrinsic ability and humanistic quality of giving and feeling love, it is without question that this universal feeling is the supreme concern of all human beings. Symposium is a unique literary work and a transcendent masterpiece by the venerable Plato, written on the foundation of one of the most prominent and basic themes and primitive subject matters known to mankind love. In this classical Ancient Greek disquisition, six distinguished Athenians employ story, lyric, and verse in the form of speeches, to convey a variety of legends and motifs regarding the nature, function, and capacity of love (Eros). These ancient dissertations centered around the phenomenon of love, present sublime subject matter, abstract content and oratorical power that has seized my mind, stirred my thoughts, and allowed me to deeply examine my personal insights regarding love. In the English language and Western culture, love is a remarkably far reaching, extensive term that can be taken in a number of contexts. In contemporary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In William Golding s book, Lord of the Flies this theory explains the boys descent into savagery because of the uneven balance of the egos. The id represented the instinctual desires that required immediate satisfaction. The super ego represented moral standards and rule following. Lastly the ego is the healthy balance between the ids desires and the superegos moderation. The ego and the superego were too weak, Freud explains the breakdown of the boys turning into savages because the egos were off balance given that, Freud describes the descent the best. The super ego would have instantly stepped down, and the id would ve shot down any rebellions. Ralph considers what is best for the group, making him a plain ego. Another tim this connection is visible is when Ralph goes back to get Piggy s glasses from jack and says, I ve come to see about the fire... and Piggy s specs. (176). This shows he is stabilizing Piggy, who wouldn t have the guts to come face to face with Jack, and also between Jack, who wouldn t have made an effort to get someone s glasses back. This is the final time Ralph grasps his ego title, because after this moment, Piggy is killed and Ralph is tracked down by Jack. Growing up in the fast growing city of New Delhi in India, I have witnessed several children grow in front of my eyes. You killed yourself by flying through the windshield and hitting them, basically turning into a flying projectile, all because you didn t wear a seatbelt. Should car manufacturers create a system that prevents vehicles from operating without the seatbelt being latched? Or is it up to the operaters to ensure there own safety? That is a very easy question for me to answer. Car manufacturers need to create a system for seatbelts so that all vehicle operaters have ensured safety. If you do not wear a seatbelt when you are operating a vehicle you are a huge liability and danger to everyone around you and also to yourself. Lets say for example you re driving on i 35 and the car in front of you stops without any warning what so ever and you crash into them, you will go flying out of the window and may hurt the driver in the other vehicle, like I said before you re a flying prejectile waiting to kill anybody in the way. ... Australia s Lack Of International Competitiveness External stability is an aim of government policy that seeks to promote sustainability on the external accounts so that Australia can service its foreign liabilities in the medium to long run and avoid currency volatility. Australia has persistently had a high CAD around 4.2% of GDP since the mid 1980s. Australia has also experienced a rising terms of trade to 130.0 in late 2011 due to the commodities boom as a result of the industrialization of the BRICs, whereby Australia has experienced high export and national income, but has resulted in less competitiveness in other sectors due to the high AUD, causing the Dutch disease whereby non commodity sectors lose competitiveness. Similarly is can be seen in its narrow export base whereby in 2012 13 one third of export revenue came from coal and iron ore ($96 billion from 300 billion), furthermore 57% of Australian export revenue is made up of mineral and energy exports, whereby Australian growth has been largely fuelled by commodity exports and mining boom. Australia s lack of international competitiveness as a result of geographical location and small population, as well as the decline of the manufacturing industry to overseas low cost producers, with the problem being further increased by the high AUD exchange rate, as a result of the mining boom. The fall in domestic production has led to an increase in imports and a fall in productive innovation compared to advanced economies has led to a rise in CAD. The growth of ... While important, it often overshadows other objectives he had for the country. After Lincoln issued The Emancipation Proclamation, he had new plans for America. Lincoln weaved rhetorical strategies into his second inaugural address to promote his vision for the future of the nation. As Civil War was nearing an end, Lincoln s goal was to create a unified nation of peace. He hoped the Union and Confederacy could put aside their differences and hatreds and reestablish harmony. The differences between the North and South were extreme. Lincoln s goal was to show that the Union and Confederacy had similarities that could foster peace between them. It also helped connect them, since many people bond over shared religious beliefs. Lincoln also used biblical references to give an explanation of why peace was possible. By the will of the Almighty, the Civil War was a necessary woe to compensate for the offense of slavery. The conflict over slavery was the cause of the war and the cause of the nation s internal chaos. However, The Emancipation Proclamation ended the offense and ended the initial conflict. Many individual cope well with their lives changing, but for others, (like myself), have a harder time adapting to a new routine. A lot of us enjoy living a life style that is expected every day, furthermore, we live happier and comfortably. In 1998, Dr. Spencer Johnson introduced Who Moved My Cheese, to the world a fable on how to adapt to major chances to one s life and to do so in a more positive attitude. The book as influenced many people, such as well respected broadcaster Charlie Jones of NBC. He admits that Dr. Johnson s book may have saved his carrier. Jones is very familiar with broadcasting Track and Field events at Olympic games, he then found out that his boss had removed him from his familiar events and was then assign to broadcast swimming and diving, a sport he knew very little about. Jones grew doubtful and frustrated with the adjustment of his career. Like most people, he did that adapt well to change. His anger affected everything thing he did, including himself, he became very unhappy with his job that he enjoyed doing. Jones then heard Dr. Johnson s successful and life changing story of Who moved my Cheese. He then altered his attitude and outlook on his new way of living. He stated that doing something new; out of his old routine made him feel youthful and refreshed. His boss then recognized his new positive energy and attitude, and he soon got better, beneficial assignments for work. He became more successful than ever and was then inducted into Pro Football s Hall of Fame, Broadcaster s alley. This domino effect can demonstrate how such an impactable book like Who Move my Cheese can do to someone. From difficulties at work, or even struggling in a relationship, the book can open anyone s life to a new positive beginning. Dr. Johnson is a strong believer that his novel can impact and touch the lives of countless people. The book is divided into 3 sections.
