Porter Five Forces
Nowadays, five forces by Michael Porter can be analyzed to when discussed about competition The
following are the forces of port services industry especially in Indonesia based on Porter five model
competition:
1. Threat of New Entrants high
a. New entrants
Possibility of new entrants from more than 90 terminals operator licenses (BUP) as a consequence of
the new shipping regulation No. 17/2008, some are granted to new players, including foreign
investment, local governments and private companies
b. Entry barrier
Quite high due to high investment for port facilities
2. Rivalry Among Existing Companies medium

Compare And Contrast Native American Civilizations
Prior to the Europeans arrival in 1492, there were Native American civilizations that populated
different parts of the land that was later called the Americas. These lands were Mesoamerica, South
America, and North America. Researchers believe that the civilizations located in those 3 parts of the
Americas were highly complex. These groups came to be known as the Olmecs, the Aztecs, the
Mayans, the Incas, the Mogollon, Hohokam, and Anasazi.
Mesoamerica was a region that stretched from North Panama to Central Mexico and included the
Native American Civilizations called the Olmecs, The Aztecs, and The Mayas. These groups were
polythetic meaning that they believed in gods that carried both male and female characteristics. They
were advanced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are also well known for creating the only known written language. Mesoamerica was not the
only region that was well known for having complex civilizations. The most highly and complex
society was located along the Andes mountains in South America. This society was called the Incas.
During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the Incas expanded their empire that stretched from
modern day Colombia to Chili. For transportation, they built stepped roads that were beneficial to
pedestrians. Not only was this transportation system beneficial to pedestrians but it was also helpful to
the Incan army and chasquis, Incan relay runners, as well. These roads allowed the Incan army to
move faster and it also allowed Incan relay runners to send messages faster over a long distance.
Unlike the Mesoamerican civilizations, the Incans did not have a writing system. Instead, they
communicated through a system of colored strings and knots called quipus. Although Mesoamerica
and South America had complex Native American civilizations, there were other civilizations that
were just as complex as the ones mentioned before. These civilizations include the Mogollon,
Hohokam, and Anasazi which were all located in North America. From 50 BCE to

A Knights Tale Analysis
During the Medieval Era, their was not much to do for entertainment besides watch the tournaments
that were held all over Western Civilizations. In modern times, many people know what jousting and
sword fighting are but not like the way A Knights Tale show them. This movie was made in 2001 and
was soon a crowd favorite. The modernization of a dark age era gave the audience entertainment
through action, love and comedy. The tournaments were very exciting during this era, specifically the
14th century. This movie had many mixed reviews between historians and regular movie goers. There
are a lot of great aspects of this movie but also many critiques historically. The movie is a portrayal of
the Medieval games which helps a more modern audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Medieval setting. Many film reviews have said that the director, Brian Helgeland, was not trying to
win awards for historical accuracy (Alverez). Helgeland took what many people call a dark period in
history and made a film to entertain the audiences, as well as stick to historical aspects as he went.
Although there were a few questionable sense that went on, the film does do a great job of informing
the modern movie watcher what the medieval tournaments were like. Yes, modern rock music is play,
therefore the audience could be expanded to everyone, not just history buffs. Many people will say
that this movie is far from historical accuracy. In Vivian Sobchack s writing she says that the history is
solidly grasped and allow us a place, a general premise, a ground from which to transcend our present
and imagine the past as once having real existential presence and value (Sobchack 1). The setting the
audience is placed in during this movie gives the movie watcher new experiences and the ability to see

The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Worker Policies
Around the 1910s, America was in a time of industrialization where there was the development of
factory system and mass production, and the increasing growth rate population. While this
transformation may have provided many benefits to Americans, it also carried negative results. For
instance, The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, located in Manhattan, New York City, managed by Max
Blanck and Isaac Harris, sold shirtwaists, an immensely popular necessity that every women desired
to have in their closet. Since Blanck and Harris were known for operating the largest firm in business,
they were notorious for taking advantage of the enormous amount of immigrants entering New York
during the early twentieth century, and hiring them in a sweatshop that consisted of poor ventilation,
overcrowded working environment, and dangerous machinery. (Lyons) In addition, Not only did
Blanck and Harris have a suspicious history of factory fires, they were also well known for anti
worker policies. (Downey) On March 25, 1911, The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory employees were in
jeopardy when the building had caught on fire. During the incident, there were four elevators with
access to the factory floors, however, only one of the elevators was working and it could only hold
twelve people at a time. There were also two stairways but one was locked from the outside to prevent
theft or employees ditching work. While Harris and Blanck received warning and escaped the
building, the workers continued

Behind Mud Walls Paper
Modern India
Behind Mud Walls Paper
In order to understand India, one needs to understand its villages. Behind Mud Walls does a great job
in providing a detailed background of an ordinary village life in India. Since seventy percent of
Indians live in villages, it is important to learn about village lifestyle and the changes that take place in
it. Only then one can learn about the cities because one needs to understand the relationship between
the two in India. Behind Mud Walls provides the opportunity to examine a north Indian village from a
non Indian point of view; in other words, a non biased point of view. Since the book is broken up into
parts by years, it gives the reader a great way to examine the changes that take place in ... Show more

An interesting relationship noticed by the Wisers was that of newly wed girls and their mother in laws.
Mother in laws would keep an eye on their daughter in laws or bahus. These bahus would have to
please their mother in laws and take care of the household and everyone living in the family or in this
case joint family where brothers and their families live together with their parents under one roof.
Therefore, one can see that Karimpur described by the Wisers in 1930 was quite backward and
orthodox. The next half of the paper will be focused on the changes that took place over the decades in
Karimpur. What were the changes in the second half of the century when Wisers and Susan Wadley
visited Karimpur? Firstly, the role of women had changed a little bit. Secondly, education had
increased and more and more villagers had B.A. degrees and moved to cities to find work. Thirdly,
technological changes had brought enormous agricultural growth in the farms. The rigid caste system
had slowed down a little bit and the mutual relationship of Jajmani system had declined as well.
Finally, the younger generation was more in touch with the world through cities and education, the
lower castes had more access to land ownership and most of the mud houses were transformed into
brick houses or pakka houses. The roles of women had started to change in the 60s and later as

The Purpose Of The Spanish Armada
On August 1588, an enormous Spanish fleet of 130 ships sailed from A Coruña under the command of
the Duke of Medina Sidonia with the sole purpose of invading England. If the invasion succeeded, it
would change the world and Christianity; there would not be an England, as we know it, in its place a
Spanish colony; Catholicism would prevail as the superior form of Christianity over Protestantism.
There would be no British Empire, but, in its stead, the Spanish Empire. The USA would be heavily
influenced by the Spanish. The world s most spoken language would be Spanish. But after all, what
were the motives of the Spaniards for launching such a vast invasion on Britain; what was worth all
the effort and work? In this essay, the reasons for the launching of the Spanish Armada will be
covered.
The motives of the Spanish were plenty. The Spanish desired England to be part of their expanding
empire. By taking over England, there would be minimal traffic towards America from the rest of ...

King Philip s ambitions was the most prominent of the reasons as the Spanish Armada was one of the

this event would prove useful in becoming a crucial example in the study regarding pre war conditions
of invasions and relationships between the contenders. A profound understanding of such events might
even allow future wars to be evaded. The Spanish Armada itself was a brilliant idea and, if it had
succeeded, Spain would have owned The empire on which the sun never sets . However, the Spanish
Armada failed; England remained independent, and British influence from that point onwards

The Constitution Understood Essay
The Jeffersonian Republicans are characterized by their strict interpretation of the constitution, in stark
contrast with the Federalists loose or broad interpretation. The Federalists believed that anything the
constitution did not forbid it permitted, contrary to the Jeffersonian view that anything it did not
permit it forbade. The Federalists advocated the necessary and proper clause, and their faith rested
heavily in the virtue of implied powers. The Jeffersonian party believed that all powers not
specifically granted to the central government were reserved to the states, disregarding the implication
of inferred powers. In the late 1700 s both Jefferson and Madison organized an opposition to
Hamilton, a federalist. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

anything not forbade in the Constitution is permitted, while the Republicans commend the contrary.

Regarding the governments intermeddling in religious institutions he proclaims no power to prescribe

Alice In Wonderland Schizophrenia Analysis
When watching, Alice in Wonderland as a child of course I didn t know what Schizophrenia was,
therefore I didn t recognize or look for this in the character of Alice. After doing research and re
watching the film, it became clearer to me that Alice does in fact show symptoms of Schizophrenia.
What exactly is schizophrenia? As stated in the class lecture slides, it is a neurodevelopmental
disorder of the brain that is expressed in abnormal mental functions and disturbed behavior. Some of
the symptoms include; hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, slow thinking, disorganized speech,
significant impairment in functioning, etc. In this essay, I will be discussing Schizophrenia in Alice s
character, hence the fact I will be describing her symptoms, causes, outcomes, etc. There are many
different factors that play a role in the disorder of Schizophrenia. At the beginning of the movie, Alice
in Wonderland we find out that Alice s father has passed away. With this being said, this could have
been an environmental factor that played a role in Alice s coming of Schizophrenia. As talked about in
lecture, personal tragedies experienced by families are one of these environmental factors and fits into
what happened with Alice and her family.
Alice has been having continuous nightmares that consist of the same activity; falling into a rabbit
hole. After doing research, I found that this is a part of another disorder; Dream Anxiety Disorder
(DAD). DAD is the reoccurring nightmares

The Age of Imperialism
During the period of 1850 until about 1910 there was an age of Imperialism. Imperialism is the policy
of extending a nation s political and economic dominance or control over another territory or country.
Imperialism was important to the political power of many nations for the Eastern and Western. It
added wealth, status and increased their military strength. With the strength of their military they are
able to maintain their authority all over the world by using their colonies as supply bases and
fortifications. Many people in the Western countries believed that their civilization was superior to
that of the non Western peoples. Westerners wanted to bring benefits of their culture to others. They
also wanted to teach non Christians about Christianity. For many Europeans and North Americans,
such goals helped to defend imperialism. I am studying imperialism of Great Britain how they took
control over China and the United States; how they took control over the Caribbean Islands and
Philippines. Prior to their controls, I am studying how their motivations are the similar and differ from
one another from their commerce and their government policy. In the early 1800 s, Great Britain had
more colonies than any other Western nation. It controlled Canada, part of India, Australia, New
Zealand, British Honduras; known to us today as Belize, in Central America, British Guiana; now
known as Guyana in South Africa, and other islands in the Caribbean. Much of the eastern half of

Racism Among Children Essay
In Finland and many western countries immigrants and some ethnic minorities are considered the
most likely victims of racism. Those studies which focus on immigrant children s experiences show
that in their everyday lives, RACE does indeed matter in many ways (e.g Howarth 2002, 2004;
Motsieloa 2003; Vestel 2004). However, in addition to immigrants and their children and people who
identify themselves as members of particular ethnic minorities, there is a growing number of children
of mixed parentage, many of whom may also face racism because of their visual difference ethnicity
or their name race , which may expose their transnational roots (e.g Gilbert 2005; Ifekwunigwe 2004;

In the context of this research the concept of racism covers both the old race theories (ideas of the
existence and hierarchies of races) and those racializing discourses and practices by which these
doctrines and other essentialist ideas of people and cultures are produced and reproduced. Even
though racism is not always intentional, the idea of power relations is also important here. Racism is
about some people having the power to use racializing and essentializing ideas of different people and
cultures against some other people. The consequences of racism can be identified on social and
cultural levels ( for example, in the unequal distribution of goods and services, in racializing
discourses and representations of peoples and cultures), in face to face interaction in everyday
encounters (se e.g Ahmed 2002) and on a subjective level as racialized

management is the science (and art) of organizing the components of a project, whether the
development of a new product or the launch of a new service. It is not something that s a part of
normal business operations. A project consumes resources and it has funding limits. Lehner (2010)

For ages, man exemplified their desire to perform inequalities to those weaker than they. From the
oppressor in the congregation, to the monarch and his crown court, it appears that man have a will to

Abstract: Agriculture uses 85% of available freshwater resources worldwide and this percentage will
continue to be dominant in water consumption because of population growth and increased food
demand. In India agriculture, primarily depends on the monsoon, which is not a sufficient source of
water. So irrigation is employed in the agriculture area. This paper targets to offer a cloud based drip
irrigation system to aid the farmers. The proposed system uses a microcontroller, sensors, and a cloud
server to provide real time network with field over a Wi Fi network. The proposed system aims to
conserve water up to a large extent by providing automatic and manual modes of irrigation. The
system can be monitored by the user on an android application.

Rudyard Kipling s The Man Who Would Be King Essay
Rudyard Kipling s The Man who Would Be King deals with man s ability to rule. The character
Dravot s success and failure in ruling derives from the perception of him as a god, instead of a king.
Kipling uses the perception of Dravot as a god to show that though a king can rule as a god, he
becomes a king by being human.
Dravot gains kingly power by being perceived as a god. The perception of him as a god occurs
through his actions and luck. After helping the first village Peachy and he find in Kafiristan, Dravot
takes power from the former leaders. He becomes more than a leader to the people, however, as every
morning Dravot sat by the side of old Imbra, and the people came and worshipped. That was Dravot s

missing Mark that no one could understand the why of (95). The displaying of the mark proves Dravot
as a god, since only the Gods know that (99). Dravot establishes his kingdom by ruling as a god, not a
king.
Dravot s perception as a god leads to his downfall by conflicting with his kingly aspirations. He
intends to establish a dynasty, and he needs a Queen to breed a King s son for the King (98). Dravot
plans to chose a woman from amongst his tribes; alas, his people are skeptical of this, for How can
daughters of men marry Gods or Devils? (99). Dravot s god appearance directly conflicts with his
aspiration for a dynasty; he cannot find a wife who will want him as a god, yet he needs a woman to
bear his children. He ignores all warnings and proceeds to find and marry his queen. The downfall of
Dravot occurs on his wedding day, as his bride bites him The slut s bitten me! says he, clapping his
hand to his neck, and sure enough, his hand was red with blood (100). The sight of blood awakens the

My daughter crashing through the door, literally, falling as soon as we opened it. My fiancé and I pick

Jayde, go get wipes he yells in a scarce voice.
I run to the car, because we have nothing unpacked yet, and cannot find the wipes. I run back inside to

her to the Emergency Room to get checked.
He looks at me, Jayde Erica, she s a baby, she s going to fall, and she s going to get nose bleeds, she is

She just makes me nervous. I tell him.
With her just beginning to walk she fall all the time, then gets back up and falls again shortly after.
We got her calmed down as we still our just sitting in front of the main door and we both look at each

Essay On Financial Conglomerates
A conglomerate is a large corporation that comprises a number of diverse, apparently unrelated
businesses. A conglomerate can own a controlling stake in a number of smaller companies that
conduct businesses separately. In a conglomerate, the subsidiary businesses run independently of the
other business divisions, their managers reporting to the top management of the group company. So, a
conglomerate can be also called a multi industry company. Financial conglomerates are nothing but
financial giants that have a number of small financial companies working under them. They, basically,
are of two types, namely, financial holding and bank holding companies.

What Role Do The Three Witches Play In Macbeth
The three witches are seen as the mischief making characters in Shakespeare s Macbeth. Macbeth and
Banquo first come into contact with the witches at a health near the Forres. The three witches then
proceeded into welcoming and hailing Macbeth after predicting he will become king chanting All hail,
Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis! All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! All hail,
Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter . The prediction the three witches make about Macbeth
becoming king bring him an overwhelming feeling of joy and determination, from then on the three
witches gain control over Macbeth and take advantage of his innocent characteristics and consistently
manipulate him into conducting many crimes in which he commits. They always play a secondary role
in each of Macbeth s inferior actions. The three witches influence Macbeth s actions throughout the

Jews And Booze By Marni Davis
In Marni Davis s book Jews and Booze, she offers readers a well researched study addressing Jewish
immigrant acculturation. Data on Jews, booze, and prohibition is familiar to scholars who study the
histories of New York City, Chicago, and New Jersey. Much to her credit, Davis also gathers
information from southern locales such as Atlanta and California. In Robert Rockaway s book But He
Was Good to His Mother, he examined Jewish gangsters in the early twentieth century and came to the
conclusion that the reason a large number of them worked in the illegal alcohol business was because
of the profit caused by prohibition and the intense thirst society developed for alcohol that came with
it. When he studied further he realized that these gangsters running illegal operations often were more
caring and human than people believed. Incorporated into this review are studies of the real life
activity of these gangsters through information that Rockaway was able to recover. As Jewish
immigrants found their place in nineteenth and twentieth century America, alcohol was never far from
their lips. True, Jews were known for their abstemious drinking habits, but the production and sale of
alcoholic beverages offered economic opportunity in the United States as it had in Europe, where
some Jews were vintners, brewers, liquor distributors, and tavern owners (Davis). However, if alcohol
selling brought prosperity, it also brought the Jews into the world of mobs and gangsters.

Essay on Bop Music in the 1950s
The Bop Beat
The bebop revolution coincided with the birth of the Beat Generation. In a slightly unbalanced
relationship, Beat writers often molded their poetics and style after the playing of such jazz music.
Jazz writers, such as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, upheld their poetic ideals to the techniques of
jazz musicians, such as rhythm, improvisation, and call and response. The structure of creative writing
underwent a change, as the importance of form equaled that of theme.
Swing, the predecessor of bop, was big, sweet, and hot. The performers were big bands, fronted by a
charismatic bandleader, yet the success of a piece depended mostly on the unity of the ensemble as a
whole, rather than on the showcasing of prodigious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of the traditional stressing of the first and third beat of a measure, as in traditional Western
music, bop music stresses the second and fourth. The playing pattern usually initiates with the theme,
then follows with a reed solo, trumpet solo, piano solo, bass or drum solo every second, third, or
fourth number. Within a song would sometimes hold trading fours, alternating four bar improvisations
between instruments. Usually, the piece would end with a restatement of the theme (Jones 42 43).
Additionally, when familiar tunes were included, it was to satirize such antiseptic creations of the
white world, and were more often then not turned upon their heads and wrecked for bop motives.
Bop musicians rejected the idea of playing solely for an audience; they graduated from the roles of
entertainers to the positions of musicians. Their music was not as melodic and hyperactive as swing.
Subsequently, bop never became an obsession of popular culture, and remained introspective, for a
largely introspective Beat culture.
The Beat Generation was a movement which rebelled against the social and literary conformity and
conservatism of white, middle class, suburban, post war America. The term Beat holds many origins.
One is canonized, as tired and weary. Another derivation, pinpointed by Kerouac, comes from the
word beatitude, holy, state of ultimate bliss. A relevant definition to jazz involves the

Richard Brannon Generative Reasoning Perspective
This essay, in part, is set out to investigate how, and to what extent Richard Branson s strategic
methods relates to De Wit and Meyer s (2004) description of generative reasoning perspective and
rational reasoning perspective. An analysis based comparison between generative reasoning
perspective and rational reasoning perspective will present arguments on how the methodologies
between the two types of strategic thinking perspectives fuels the debate over which approach to
strategy may not only more effective, but also correlates to Branson s own strategic thinking method.
Secondly, a discussion on whether Richard Branson is a characteristic design thinker as described by
Liedtka will be put forth as well as an examination as to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is further argued by advocates of RRP that such reasoning strongly resembles the problem solving
approach of chess grand masters (Simon, 1987). This argument opens up certain views that RRP
revolves around a central theme that when dealing with strategic thinking, deductive and inductive
logic is commonly used.
Yet again with the use of Table 1 (Appendix 1), characteristics on RRP can be recognized. With this
information, we can start to identify to what extent Branson fits in with the RRP model. Arguably,
RRP is seen as more of a figurative way of thinking whereby decisions are based primarily on factual
information. With this understanding, Branson periodically demonstrates a RRP way of strategizing on
how he performs business.
The first clear example of Branson using the RRP is shown in the case study whereby he uses factual
based reasoning in regards to his efforts of expanding the product line of his company to different
areas in the market. Branson used analytical data stating that 96 percent of the United Kingdom
recognized the Virgin logo. Branson used the Virgin logo to help diversify into other currently
booming industries around the United Kingdom and other parts of the world (i.e. book publishing,
computer game development, soft drink manufacturing, cinemas and even financial services).
Arguably Branson would not have endeavored into this mode of expansion so quickly if he had not
known the statistical backing that

`` The Day They Tied Me Up ``
Sharon Olds was born in San Francisco on November 19, 1942. At age fifteen, she was sent to a
boarding school in Massachusetts. Many of her poems focus on difficult childhood and the body. As
Olivia Laing, literary critic of several literary novels and publications, says, The physical body is a
document of being, physical experience is the primary mode of forming, and physical contact is the
primary human relationship. Like Whitman, Olds celebrates the body in its pleasures and pains. She is
a contemporary poet who focuses on autobiographical poems mostly of sexual or violent nature and
personal experience. She particularly resonates with women readers and women s connections with
family members and lovers of the past and present through physical, sexual, and emotional means.
She writes frequently about her sadistic, alcoholic father and victimized mother. Her dysfunctional
family plays an enormous role in her poetry, especially in The Day They Tied Me Up. This poem is
inspired by true events and the feelings and emotions felt by the poet during a memorable aspect of
her childhood. When Olds was eight years old, she emptied a bottle of ink onto her parents bedspread
and was tied to a chair as punishment. In perception by Maurice Merleau Ponty, a French philosopher
commonly associated with the philosophical movement of existentialism, he demonstrates Olds s

Anti Semitism And The Nazi Party
Section A: Plan of Investigation
The purpose of this investigation is to evaluate the extent to which anti Semitism throughout Germany
contributed to Hitler s rise to power. The main body of the investigation will focus on the tactics
which were used within the Nazi party to gain support towards Hitler s political beliefs. The formation
of the Nazi party and the use of anti Semitic propaganda will also be analyzed. Sources will be
assessed in order to formulate reasoning behind the effectiveness of Hitler s influence over the Nazi
party. Journal articles and speeches from this time period will be examined according to their origin,
value, purpose and limitations. These documents as well as a summary of evidence will be used to
properly evaluate the investigation.
Section B: Summary of Evidence
Hitler s Anti Semitic background
In 1908 Hitler made Vienna, a place with widespread Anti Semitism, his home. According to Hitler,
his time spent in Vienna shaped his beliefs, particularly his perception of them.(Smelser)
While in Vienna prior to World War I (1914 1918), Hitler developed anti Semitic views, most likely
created by his resentment of wealthy Jewish citizens during his years of extreme poverty and
impoverishment.(Altman 28)
Hitler s beliefs
Within Hitler s beliefs, the Jews were a cause of danger to Germany and to humanity as a whole.

Big Two Hearted River by Ernest Hemingway
Nick is a World War I veteran who, as many veterans, suffers from emotional trauma that his
experiences from the war left him with. Multiple scenes throughout the story, Big Two Hearted River,
relates to Nick, the main character s, journey toward recovery. Nick describes his surroundings in way
that parallels to his own experiences and current voyage in respect to his revival.. He takes a calming
adventure saturated with calming natural paths over hills, through woodland, and along a river to find
peace with himself and to return to his prewar state of mind. As Nick sets off on his journey, he comes
to a river in which he observes in a way that relates to his own advancing expedition: It swirled
against the log spiles of the bridge. Nick looked down into the clear, brown water, colored from the
pebbly bottom and watched the trout keeping themselves steady in the current with wavering fins. As
he watched them they changed their position by quick angles, only to hold steady in the fast water
again. (Hemingway 177) This scene is Nick s first inspiration for how he should go about recovering.
The trouts literal state in the water mirrors Nick s emotional state and recovery process. There are
rapid waters all around the fish, which compares to the rough emotional condition that Nick is facing.
Nick notices how the trout change positions and push again the swirling current in order to stay
steadily on the right track. Nick can use this to understand that he must change his own

The Barbaric Nature Of The Atomic Bomb
January 31, 1943, Germany finally surrendered to the Soviet Union. A major victory for the Allies, but
WWII is not over yet. The battle with Japan is about to reach its end, the Manhattan project was a top
secret US government project that produced the atomic bomb. President truman determined the atomic
bombs could be used against Japan to lower the cost and US casualties for the war. And with Japanese
unhappy response to the Allies Postdam Declaration they sealed their fate. The air raids for WWII
formally targeted only military bases and factories, the brutality of the war stretched to the home

WWII had taken the Allies four long years to defeat Germany, while the US faced Japan for two years.
Ever country was running low on resources and exhausted from the back to back battles, the defeat of
Japan needed to happen and fast. The allies devised a plan to make bombs for air raids that lowered
the destructive power and increased the accuracy and efficiency, as to allow planes to carry more and
hit all their targets. They also used means of psychological warfare to defeat Japan quicker and to
show other countries how powerful they are, It was agreed that psychological factors in the target
selection were of great importance. Two aspects of this are (1) obtaining the greatest psychological
effect against Japan and (2) making the initial use sufficiently spectacular for the importance of the
weapon to be internationally recognized when publicity on it is released. (Target Committee,Los
Alamos, May 10 11, 1945) The decision also helped shorten the war, and for all countries that is the
ultimate goal. To gain victory as fast as possible to limit the lives lost and resources used in the war.
Another concurrent argument supporting the use of the bomb is that it achieved its primary objective
of shortening the war. The bombs were dropped on August 6 and 9. The next day, the Japanese
requested a halting of the war. On August 14 Emperor Hirohito announced to the Japanese people that

Invertebrate Receptors
N acetylcholine Receptors Neuromuscular effects of ACh are typically mediated by post synaptic
nicotine acetylcholine receptors. These are so named because of their high affinity for nicotine.
Structurally, nAChRs are members of the Cys loop ligand gated ion channel (LGIC) superfamily.
They form homo and Hetero pentameric structures, which are organized in a barrel shape around a
central ion selective pore[39]. An important distinction between the vertebrate and the invertebrate
channel is that Vertebrate nAChRs are invariably cation selective (Na+, Ca2+, K+) and mediate
excitatory responses while Invertebrates, on the other hand, have both cation and anion selective (Cl2)
ACh gated channels[40]. The invertebrate anion selective channel mediate Cl2 driven membrane
hyperpolarization and therefore are believed to play a role in inhibitory responses to ACh. One
example of these unique invertebrate receptors is the acetylcholine gated chloride channel (ACC) of
the snail, Lymnaea, which is structurally related to nAChRs, yet is selective for chloride ions [41]. In
addition, nematodes have an unusual type of ACC, which is a functional acetylcholine gated chloride
channel but is more closely related to other chloride channels (GABA and ... Show more content on

Twain. He was born in Florida, Missouri in November of 1835 to parents Jane and John Clemens. His
father died when he was 13 and Samuel left school and became a printer s apprentice and throughout
the next several years moved up to become an editorial assistant. In 1858 he became a river pilot
which is where he got his name of Mark Twain meaning safe to navigate. In 1865, Twain was first
published in the New York Saturday Press for his writing of The Celebrated Jumping Frog from
Calaveras County . This short story made him well known and was the first of many writings to lead
the way for him to become known as America s famous literary writer. Mark Twain was married, had
four children and passed away on April 21, 1910. His short story, The Celebrated Jumping Frog from
Calaveras County shows Twains ability to tell two stories in one. What starts as a story of an innocent
search for a friend and later graduates into a frog race full of satire. Mark Twain in The Celebrated
Jumping Frog from Calaveras County shows cultural clash by using diction, irony, deception and
contrast between the cultures.
Simon Wheeler s diction helps show the cultural clash as well as deception throughout the story. Well,

The Silent Pool, The Tell Tale Heart, And Things Fall Apart
With many of the texts that were assigned to us, each one dealt with the relationship between insiders
and outsiders differently. The insider and outsider relationship varies between both the idea of inner
conflict and outside conflict. I will be explaining these relationships from the texts of Gooboora, The
Silent Pool, The Tell Tale Heart, and Things Fall Apart. Gooboora, The Silent Pool deals with the
relationship of the Aboriginal people of Australia and colonialization, while The Tell Tale Heart deals
with an outsider s effect on the main character s subconscious. Things Fall Apart, however, is a
mixture of both conflicts that were mentioned. Each of the three texts show how the outside negatively
effects the inside.
In the poem, Gooboora, The Silent Pool by Oodgeroo Noonuccal, it shows some aspects of the
aftermath from colonialism in Australia and how it has affected the Aboriginal people. In Amanda
Woods s thesis, she explains that Noonuccal s poems are a means that speak for the Aboriginal people.
With Gooboora, The Silent Pool, it talks about the lost images of a pool that is sacred to the Aboriginal
people. The aftermath of colonialization has left only a memory for the people. This story was set after
dreamtime, or a time before colonialization. She further explains (Woods)
Woods s gives a very interesting insight on the poem. She does state that Gooboora is an actual pool in
Australia that was sacred to the Aboriginals, but was renamed to Lake Karboora

Alpine Drive Investigation
Leading up to the investigation, at 10:30 the Police Communications Bureau called me at home and
informed me of a request for a Detective follow up at Alpine Drive. Originally, patrol officers
responded to the address regarding yelling and screaming, but once they arrived they found the door
open and no one inside. While responding officers were still at the scene, others were dispatched to a
location a couple miles away where a passing reported someone lying next to the roadway. Officers
found a young woman who had been badly beaten and stabbed. The victim did happen to be alive but
was unconscious. She was transported to the hospital where she is reported to be in critical condition.
While this is all going on, officers stood at the hospital. They believe the unidentified victim could be
connected to the call on Alpine Drive. When I arrived, a Patrol Sergeant filled me in on the
circumstances. Neighbors called 9 1 1 to report the sound of yelling and a female voice ... Show more

Key Themes In Macbeth
In the story of Macbeth there are a myriad of themes that can be explored and analyzed within the
text, which become distinct and unique in their own way. As the main character, Macbeth, goes
through continuous conflict and self doubt based on the morality of his choices; other characters
slowly get assorted within the chaos that ultimately changes and influences the scenes and murders
that play out throughout the book. Lady Macbeth (Macbeth s wife) can be attributed to most of her
husband s actions as she calls his manhood and pride into question over and over again. Lady Macbeth
manipulates her husband into murdering King Duncan and anyone else that threatens their power,
which steadily begins to address her own morality as a human being. As the book continues, further
on, a sense of guilt can be discovered as part of the aftermath of murdering Duncan. Near the end
Lady Macbeth begins to feel a burden of guilt. This burden towards the innocent and brutal murders
committed drives her into madness, which ultimately leads to her own death. In essence, Shakespeare
s Macbeth suggests a vision of the world in which Macbeth s vaulting ambition and lust for power is

In the book there are a plethora of King Duncan s, an example is Banquo (one of his previous best
friends) who knows about the witches prophecy and what it says about Macbeth. Back when he
murdered Duncan, Macbeth and his wife planted the evidence in the throne room by putting bloody
daggers on all the royal individuals within the room. In this sequence of events and the way it took
place Banquo had become suspicious, because the whole thing looked too good to be true and he also
heard from the witches that Macbeth would be the King of Scotland. Lady Macbeth catches on and
repeats the whole scenario into manipulating her husband (now the king) into killing anyone, even his
own best friend, that threatens his

International Adoption Essay
The necessity of adoption in the world is astounding. Currently, there is an estimated 143 million
orphans worldwide (Wingert, vol.151). As of 2007, there were 513,000 children living in foster care
within the United States alone (Rousseau 21:14). International adoption in the United States was
jumpstarted post World War II as a way of helping those children who were left homeless, after war
had taken their parents. Although there are thousands of healthy children awaiting adoption in the
United States, several American couples still turn to foreign adoption when seeking potential children.
Americans often fail to realize the need for intervention within their own country and their duty to
take care of domestic affairs before venturing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children who are pulled out of their normal environment and inserted into different surroundings face
an identity crisis due to the importance of identity in determining who one truly is. In a study, Trolly,
Wallin, and Hansen discovered that fewer than fifty percent of the parents of foreign children felt that
their children were only somewhat aware of their birth culture (Hollingsworth 48:209). These children
lack a sense of who they really are and later in life will become confused on why they differ from their
new families. Though it is often a painful topic that parents choose not to bring up, it is important that
children understand their background because it results in a better quality of life. However, the
prevalence of cultural socializations was low amongst Caucasian families who adopted Asian children
(Deater Deckard, Johnston, Petrill, Saltsman, and Swim 56:390). It is made clear that Westerners lack
the cultural knowledge necessary to properly educate their internationally adopted children about the
culture the children come from. This can result in a variety of psychological implications due to the
significant effect of identity on the health of people of color (Deater Deckard, Johnston, Petrill,
Saltsman, and Swim 56:390). These implications tend to be internalized rather than externalized. In
the same study, Chinese adoptees displayed the possibility of behavior such as hyperactivity,
aggression,

Richler s The Apprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz
The Selfish Madness of Duddy Kravitz The story of Duddy Kravitz reveals that there s more to strive
towards in life than being financially successful. Mordecai Richler s The Apprenticeship of Duddy
Kravitz covers the story of a young man who begins to pursue money and land in response to
misinterpreting advice from his grandfather. Throughout the novel, Duddy Kravitz fights for money
and land, hurting those around him in the process. He breaks the hearts of those who love him and
pushes them away through the horrible deeds he performs for his money. Some argue that Duddy
Kravitz is a modern hero that should be looked up to for doing what the world expects of someone his
age. This idea goes against the very definition of a hero as being someone ... Show more content on

There is of course, the time when Duddy sets up a deal between Calder and Cohen that works out
positively for both of them. They are both his friends and he does them a favour. Later on, he also
does a seemingly nice deed for Virgil by giving him a few hundred dollars saying it was money that he
had gotten back from the truck he bought Virgil. He did this after cheating Virgil out of the $1000
Duddy originally owed him and instead giving a truck he was getting for free. Regardless of this
however, Duddy s misdeeds still outweigh the good he has done. In regards to him being altruistic, it
is often the case that he is altruistic for a selfish reason. The deal he set up between his friend Calder
and Cohen he did so for money, which he made clear from the start, If I can get [the deal] for you
what s in it for me? (205). He also reveals later how little he truly cares about his friendship with
Calder. He asks Calder for help multiple times but only seems to keep him close to get help. When
Calder finally stops helping him, Duddy turns against him immediately, That king among anti semites.
I ll see him strung up from a lamp post yet. (309). Duddy s generousness is quite nonexistent as well,
which is evidenced by the fact that the money he gives Virgil was not given to Virgil for any of the
reasons it should have been. Duddy cheated Virgil out of $1000. He did this by

Article reflection 5
Topic: Creating urban classroom communities worthy of trust
April 9, 2017
TEP outcome 4. Creating and maintaining effective learning environments for ALL students
For this reflection, I chose TEP 4 and found the article Creating urban classroom communities worthy
of trust. With all the negative we are reading about urban schools I felt that this might shed some light
on the problems and possible ways to fix them.
The article talks about building trust. Trust can be defined in one of two ways. The first as a belief or
confidence in the honesty, integrity, reliability, and justice of another person and second to hope for.
(Webster s New World Dictionary (Guralnik 1996: 1527) (Ennis, McCauley ... Show more content on

The idea is to use positive interactions with adults which they may not be accustomed to outside of
school. They found that most of the disruptive and at risk students do not have positive adult
interactions with which to compare how they are supposed to react. On teacher used a model that
included building from the students skills. By having them lead classes she was giving them the
opportunity to earn and build trust by saying I trust you enough to let you do this for me and your
classmates. (162) Other teachers found that they could build trust by allowing troubled or at risk
students help with policy making encouraging them to put their own ideas into play to create the
finished project.

The most highly and complex society was located along the Andes mountains in South America. This society was called the Incas. During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the Incas expanded their empire that stretched from modern day Colombia to Chili. For transportation, they built stepped roads that were beneficial to pedestrians. Not only was this transportation system beneficial to pedestrians but it was also helpful to the Incan army and chasquis, Incan relay runners, as well. These roads allowed the Incan army to move faster and it also allowed Incan relay runners to send messages faster over a long distance. Unlike the Mesoamerican civilizations, the Incans did not have a writing system. Instead, they communicated through a system of colored strings and knots called quipus. • 27. Jews And Booze By Marni Davis In Marni Davis s book Jews and Booze, she offers readers a well researched study addressing Jewish immigrant acculturation. Data on Jews, booze, and prohibition is familiar to scholars who study the histories of New York City, Chicago, and New Jersey. Much to her credit, Davis also gathers information from southern locales such as Atlanta and California. In Robert Rockaway s book But He Was Good to His Mother, he examined Jewish gangsters in the early twentieth century and came to the conclusion that the reason a large number of them worked in the illegal alcohol business was because of the profit caused by prohibition and the intense thirst society developed for alcohol that came with it. When he studied further he realized that these gangsters running illegal operations often were more caring and human than people believed. Incorporated into this review are studies of the real life activity of these gangsters through information that Rockaway was able to recover. As Jewish immigrants found their place in nineteenth and twentieth century America, alcohol was never far from their lips. True, Jews were known for their abstemious drinking habits, but the production and sale of alcoholic beverages offered economic opportunity in the United States as it had in Europe, where some Jews were vintners, brewers, liquor distributors, and tavern owners (Davis). However, if alcohol selling brought prosperity, it also brought the Jews into the world of mobs and gangsters. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Essay on Bop Music in the 1950s The Bop Beat The bebop revolution coincided with the birth of the Beat Generation. In a slightly unbalanced relationship, Beat writers often molded their poetics and style after the playing of such jazz music. Jazz writers, such as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, upheld their poetic ideals to the techniques of jazz musicians, such as rhythm, improvisation, and call and response. The structure of creative writing underwent a change, as the importance of form equaled that of theme. Swing, the predecessor of bop, was big, sweet, and hot. The performers were big bands, fronted by a charismatic bandleader, yet the success of a piece depended mostly on the unity of the ensemble as a whole, rather than on the showcasing of prodigious ... The playing pattern usually initiates with the theme, then follows with a reed solo, trumpet solo, piano solo, bass or drum solo every second, third, or fourth number. Within a song would sometimes hold trading fours, alternating four bar improvisations between instruments. Usually, the piece would end with a restatement of the theme (Jones 42 43). Additionally, when familiar tunes were included, it was to satirize such antiseptic creations of the white world, and were more often then not turned upon their heads and wrecked for bop motives. Bop musicians rejected the idea of playing solely for an audience; they graduated from the roles of entertainers to the positions of musicians. Their music was not as melodic and hyperactive as swing. Subsequently, bop never became an obsession of popular culture, and remained introspective, for a largely introspective Beat culture. The Beat Generation was a movement which rebelled against the social and literary conformity and conservatism of white, middle class, suburban, post war America. The term Beat holds many origins. One is canonized, as tired and weary. Another derivation, pinpointed by Kerouac, comes from the word beatitude, holy, state of ultimate bliss. A relevant definition to jazz involves the ... Richard Brannon Generative Reasoning Perspective This essay, in part, is set out to investigate how, and to what extent Richard Branson s strategic methods relates to De Wit and Meyer s (2004) description of generative reasoning perspective and rational reasoning perspective. An analysis based comparison between generative reasoning perspective and rational reasoning perspective will present arguments on how the methodologies between the two types of strategic thinking perspectives fuels the debate over which approach to strategy may not only more effective, but also correlates to Branson s own strategic thinking method. This argument opens up certain views that RRP revolves around a central theme that when dealing with strategic thinking, deductive and inductive logic is commonly used. Yet again with the use of Table 1 (Appendix 1), characteristics on RRP can be recognized. With this information, we can start to identify to what extent Branson fits in with the RRP model. Arguably, RRP is seen as more of a figurative way of thinking whereby decisions are based primarily on factual information. With this understanding, Branson periodically demonstrates a RRP way of strategizing on how he performs business. The first clear example of Branson using the RRP is shown in the case study whereby he uses factual based reasoning in regards to his efforts of expanding the product line of his company to different areas in the market. Branson used analytical data stating that 96 percent of the United Kingdom recognized the Virgin logo. Branson used the Virgin logo to help diversify into other currently booming industries around the United Kingdom and other parts of the world (i.e. book publishing, computer game development, soft drink manufacturing, cinemas and even financial services). Many of her poems focus on difficult childhood and the body. As Olivia Laing, literary critic of several literary novels and publications, says, The physical body is a document of being, physical experience is the primary mode of forming, and physical contact is the primary human relationship. Like Whitman, Olds celebrates the body in its pleasures and pains. She is a contemporary poet who focuses on autobiographical poems mostly of sexual or violent nature and personal experience. She particularly resonates with women readers and women s connections with family members and lovers of the past and present through physical, sexual, and emotional means. She writes frequently about her sadistic, alcoholic father and victimized mother. Her dysfunctional family plays an enormous role in her poetry, especially in The Day They Tied Me Up. This poem is inspired by true events and the feelings and emotions felt by the poet during a memorable aspect of her childhood. When Olds was eight years old, she emptied a bottle of ink onto her parents bedspread and was tied to a chair as punishment. They also used means of psychological warfare to defeat Japan quicker and to show other countries how powerful they are, It was agreed that psychological factors in the target selection were of great importance. Two aspects of this are (1) obtaining the greatest psychological effect against Japan and (2) making the initial use sufficiently spectacular for the importance of the weapon to be internationally recognized when publicity on it is released. • 39. Invertebrate Receptors N acetylcholine Receptors Neuromuscular effects of ACh are typically mediated by post synaptic nicotine acetylcholine receptors. These are so named because of their high affinity for nicotine. Structurally, nAChRs are members of the Cys loop ligand gated ion channel (LGIC) superfamily. They form homo and Hetero pentameric structures, which are organized in a barrel shape around a central ion selective pore[39]. An important distinction between the vertebrate and the invertebrate channel is that Vertebrate nAChRs are invariably cation selective (Na+, Ca2+, K+) and mediate excitatory responses while Invertebrates, on the other hand, have both cation and anion selective (Cl2) ACh gated channels[40]. The invertebrate anion selective channel mediate Cl2 driven membrane hyperpolarization and therefore are believed to play a role in inhibitory responses to ACh. One example of these unique invertebrate receptors is the acetylcholine gated chloride channel (ACC) of the snail, Lymnaea, which is structurally related to nAChRs, yet is selective for chloride ions [41]. The insider and outsider relationship varies between both the idea of inner conflict and outside conflict. I will be explaining these relationships from the texts of Gooboora, The Silent Pool, The Tell Tale Heart, and Things Fall Apart. Gooboora, The Silent Pool deals with the relationship of the Aboriginal people of Australia and colonialization, while The Tell Tale Heart deals with an outsider s effect on the main character s subconscious. Things Fall Apart, however, is a mixture of both conflicts that were mentioned. Each of the three texts show how the outside negatively effects the inside. In the poem, Gooboora, The Silent Pool by Oodgeroo Noonuccal, it shows some aspects of the aftermath from colonialism in Australia and how it has affected the Aboriginal people. In Amanda Woods s thesis, she explains that Noonuccal s poems are a means that speak for the Aboriginal people. In a study, Trolly, Wallin, and Hansen discovered that fewer than fifty percent of the parents of foreign children felt that their children were only somewhat aware of their birth culture (Hollingsworth 48:209). These children lack a sense of who they really are and later in life will become confused on why they differ from their new families. Though it is often a painful topic that parents choose not to bring up, it is important that children understand their background because it results in a better quality of life. However, the prevalence of cultural socializations was low amongst Caucasian families who adopted Asian children (Deater Deckard, Johnston, Petrill, Saltsman, and Swim 56:390). It is made clear that Westerners lack the cultural knowledge necessary to properly educate their internationally adopted children about the culture the children come from. This can result in a variety of psychological implications due to the significant effect of identity on the health of people of color (Deater Deckard, Johnston, Petrill, Saltsman, and Swim 56:390). These implications tend to be internalized rather than externalized. In the same study, Chinese adoptees displayed the possibility of behavior such as hyperactivity, aggression, ... Richler s The Apprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz The Selfish Madness of Duddy Kravitz The story of Duddy Kravitz reveals that there s more to strive towards in life than being financially successful. Mordecai Richler s The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz covers the story of a young man who begins to pursue money and land in response to misinterpreting advice from his grandfather. Throughout the novel, Duddy Kravitz fights for money and land, hurting those around him in the process. He breaks the hearts of those who love him and pushes them away through the horrible deeds he performs for his money. Some argue that Duddy Kravitz is a modern hero that should be looked up to for doing what the world expects of someone his age. This idea goes against the very definition of a hero as being someone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is of course, the time when Duddy sets up a deal between Calder and Cohen that works out positively for both of them. They are both his friends and he does them a favour. Later on, he also does a seemingly nice deed for Virgil by giving him a few hundred dollars saying it was money that he had gotten back from the truck he bought Virgil. He did this after cheating Virgil out of the $1000 Duddy originally owed him and instead giving a truck he was getting for free. Regardless of this however, Duddy s misdeeds still outweigh the good he has done. In regards to him being altruistic, it is often the case that he is altruistic for a selfish reason. The deal he set up between his friend Calder and Cohen he did so for money, which he made clear from the start, If I can get [the deal] for you what s in it for me? (205). He also reveals later how little he truly cares about his friendship with Calder. He asks Calder for help multiple times but only seems to keep him close to get help. When Calder finally stops helping him, Duddy turns against him immediately, That king among anti semites. I ll see him strung up from a lamp post yet. (309). Duddy s generousness is quite nonexistent as well, which is evidenced by the fact that the money he gives Virgil was not given to Virgil for any of the reasons it should have been.
