Evaluation Of The Portfolio Management System
Guinn_ENVM625_M2_GradedAssign
Payback Model
As part of the portfolio management system, a selection criterion is used to determine which
projects are most in accord with the organizations mission. Selection criteria is usually either
financial or non financial. In the example provided we are considering which project will meet the
needs of high annual cash flow for the small startup company. Using the financial criteria for
selection we will employ the payback model, which allows for the direct assessment of future cash
flows. This model measures the time it will take for the recovery of the project investment (Larson
Gray, 2011). The limitations of this model are the assumed cash flow during only the investment
period, the exclusion of profitability, and the effect of the time value of money (Murphy, 2016).
Results: Project 1: 5.7 years; Project 2: 7.5 years; and Project 3: 5 years.
Based on the results, Project 3 would satisfy the high annual cash flow requirement with a shorter
payback period of 5 years.
Net present value (NPV)
Net present value uses managements minimum desired rate of return to calculate the value of all
net cash inflow (Larson Grey, 2011). A positive value is desired, and is the indication of the project
eligible for consideration. The greater the values the higher the rank in consideration. A negative
value would indicate the project is not financially viable.
Results: Using the Investopedia NPV calculator, it was determined

Difference Between Modernist Drama And Realist Drama
This essay aims to show and discuss the ways in which modernist drama is different to realist
drama. To do this the essay will focus on the conventions of language and subject identity to show
how modernist drama challenges the ways of realist drama. This essay will first outline what
modernism is. It will then look at the conventions of both language and subject identity separately,
providing examples where needed. Finally, the essay will look at Pirandello s play and discuss
how it relates to the modernist dramastyle before concluding.
When something is considered contemporary or in style, it is considered to be modern. From the
late 18th century to the early 19th century there was a shift in history. There was a rise in
capitalist societies and an increase in industrial productivity. This created the start of modernity.
Macey (2001) refers to modernity as the period of the modern. The changes in the world
demanded a response from art. All forms of art had to create a new way of thought for this new
world. This is how modernism or the modernist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the play Krapp s Last Tape by Beckett (1958) language is delivered to the audience in a new
way. The use of a tape recorder changes the way time in a play works. One can say that Beckett
found a way to loophole the fact that play s cannot have flashbacks. Krapp listens to his younger
self on his tape recorder and finds that some of the language used was now meaningless to his
older self. This shows that language is contextual. The language used in the stage directions are
quite unusual such as rusty black and wearish old man. While one can visualise what these words
mean, there is no standard definition for the words. In a play by Pinter (1985) called The Birthday
Party the characters often have meaningless or vague conversations. In the first act Meg repeatedly
asked Petey, Is that you? This shows the redundancy of some

Types And Types Of Insects
Insects Insects are a class of arthropod exoskeletons door without having chitin, composed of
three parts of the body within a vertebrate, which is the head, chest and abdomen three pairs of
jointed legs, compound eyes and a pair of antennae, All insects are cold blooded. Grasshoppers
are insects of the order orthoptera. Grasshoppers are brown and with some darker markings,
black herringbone pattern on hind femur, they got very big hind legs for jumping, 2 pairs of
wings forewing narrow and relatively har hind wings large. The grasshopper s ecological role is
to fertilize its surroundings with its droppings. Grasshoppers have a worldwide distribution, to be
found on all parts of the world except in cold regions at latitudes above 55 в„ѓ, the north and south.
They colonized many large and small islands, sometimes flying overseas to reach these locations,
or to convey a floating timber or human activities. The purpose is to provide gas exchange
oxygen to the body. This involves chitin, therefore impermeable outer skeleton of major organs,

Back To The Future Analysis
Science Fiction and the future are often interpreted in various different ways in both film and text.
However the way in which both Hover Car Racer, written by Matthew Reily and Back to the Future
Part II, directed by Robert Zemeckis, show interpretations of the future intertwined with a reality
similar to the one we know today. Both Zemeckis and Reily interpret the futurein a different manner,
yet the predicted future shares many similarities including the use of Hover Technology as a
transportation method. Reily depicts the future and Hover Technology being used as more then
transportation, with uses such as sporting events. Antagonists cause issues for the central characters
in both Zemeckis and Reily s texts and the eventual successes... Show more content on

Reily has written about the antagonists, Jason Chaser, his brother known as The Bug and their
friend and Mech Chief, Sally McDuff, facing an adversarial group of protagonists who believe
that Jason, The Bug and Sally do not belong at the International Race School: Tell me how a
little runt who comes stone dead motherless last in the regionals gets to come to race school.
Using despicable tactics, the unrevealed group of antagonists try to affect Jason s racing career
through the supply of defective parts for his Hover Car and sabotaging his vehicle to cause
maximum damage. Biff Tannen and his family are the main antagonists in Zemeckis Back to the
Future Part II, causing a vast amount of grief for the protagonists, Doctor Emmett Brown and
Marty McFly Jr. After travelling to the year 2015, Marty buys a sports almanac for his personal
use in 1985 and after being lectured by Doctor Brown: I didn t invent the time machine to win at
gambling. I invented the time machine to travel through time! He then disposes of the book.
However the book and the DeLorean time machine are then stolen by Biff, who returns to the year
1955 and gives the book to his future self. By giving the sports book to his 1955 self, Biff
drastically alters the events of the future, creating an alternative

Compare And Contrast Beneatha And Walter
A Raisin in the Sun, which is a play written by Lorraine Hansberry, causes a variety of emotions felt
toward the Younger family. Two characters who live this out most within the play are Beneatha and
Walter Lee, siblings living with their mother. Beneatha is in her early twenties, while Walter is
more in his mid thirties. They differentiate greatly in multiple ways, which causes different
emotions associated with them. Beneatha is more closely linked with hope and lacks any sympathy
felt towards her. Walter, on the other hand, is in a situation where the reader is more likely to feel
pity for him. Through their current relationships, their current occupations, and their aspirations,
Beneatha and Walter differentiate in the emotions that are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Beneatha s situation, she has the freedom to choose her husband, and make the decision that
best fits her. She can decide between George, who can provide for her all of the material objects
that she could want, and Joseph, who treats her as an equal to him and cares for her very much.
In Walter s case, he is stuck in an imperfect relationship with his wife Ruth, and he cannot divorce
her because they have a twelve year old son to care for and a baby on the way. This faulty
relationship is best shown in the first scene when Walter casually says to his wife, But you
wouldn t do nothing to help, would you? You couldn t be on my side that long for nothing,
could you? (Hansberry 32) This morning conversation between the two is an average, typical
talk, which shows that the relationship is certainly in decline. Even during the middle of the
play, when they go to the movies and hold hands, this love does not even last until the end of the
play. Walter s relationship with his wife brings a feeling of sympathy upon him because he
cannot avoid it and that he is past the ideal age for finding a partner. Beneatha, on the other hand,
brings no pity because she can decide for herself who she wants her husband to be, and she is
young and has time if she is not ready to get married

industry. Walter Shewart developed his first statistical theory about quality control. He made his
first sketch of a modern control chart, which is later on, developed by Deming in the 1940 s. It
was the first time when this statistical theory began to be applied to manufacturing process.
However there was little use of these techniques till the beginning of 1950 s.
By the last midcentury, the demand of quality control was highly increasing due to the raise of
mass production. The techniques of the quality control became strongly important and required
during the 1940 s and 1950 s.
At the same time, Japanese people recognized the importance of quality management. They started
to implement quality management practices in their industry by the 1950 s. A decade later, Japan
started to export products to USA and Europe which was cheaper and higher in quality, compared to
western products.
Consumers worldwide relied on Japanese products as higher quality and cheaper price comparing to
western products. North American considered japan as serious threat to their industry and realized
the magnitude of quality management. Figure 1 illustrates the difference between Japanese quality

Sex Trade And Its Effects On Society
Women in the Sex trade are living and working in dangerous situations working with different
men and women and even the same customers every night, this is their lives from a very young
age and will continue this hardship for the rest of their lives, even if by chance they could get out
and try to live a normal, healthy citizen life. The sex trade is a business where women do sexual
favours for men and sometimes women for money. In many parts of the world and with women
from different parts of the globe, many women are persuaded into the sex business for new and
better opportunities, others are forced with personal threats and are sent into human trafficking then

were located the train stations and the main work sites because of the single and married men.
(Shaver, F. (2011, October 27)). It has been shown in a Canada statistic that in Vancouver around
2007 alone, there is a sixty percent of young women in the sex trade were Aboriginal youth and
on average of age to be forced into the trade, is around the age of eleven or twelve for the women
to enter the sex trade as a child (Sethi, A. (2007)). Prostitution made a huge increase during World
War I due to when employment for women was at the minimum level, but then their war a big

the industries that were war related like being nurses and help for the wounded. As time went on
and we have come to the present day, the prostitution trade started hitting its high point then
plummeting greatly later over the years to as we see it today because of the changes and new laws
that the government has made.
The law has always been around and it keeps the system and people safe and in order, including
the sex trade workers and their clients. The law against the Sex trade and the workers has made

Project Classroom Makeover Analysis
In Project Classroom Makeover , Cathy Davidson demonstrates the potential benefits that can come
from the implementation of technology in the current educational paradigm. Furthermore, in Sherry
Turkle s selections from Alone Together , Turkle discusses the unique relationship between a child
and his or her artificially intelligent toys, some of which included Tamagotchis and Furbies.
Interestingly, children give these toys special treatment relative to other toys. If the special
treatment encourages positive behavior, then these toys could be potentially implemented into the
currenteducational paradigm as a new form of technology. Therefore, the real question is are there
benefits of allowing children to play with these toys, or will there... Show more content on

As discussed before, as long as these toys do not shut down in response to pain and do not overly
express their pain by crying, these toys should be safe in a school environment. Also, if these toys
respond to behavior like the Tamagotchis and Furbies, then it will be beneficial to allow children to
play with these toys during school time. This is due to the ability of computers...[that can] turn
children into philosophers (Turkle, 463). For the Duke university students, computers enabled them
to create new applications for the iPod. Therefore, the computers helped turn them into a type of
philosopher, one that thinks innovatively. The iPod experiment is a perfect example of benefits of
applying technology to the education system because it did in fact turn young adults into a type of
philosophers. For children, computers turned them into a type of philosophers by transforming
them into caretakers (Turkle, 464). Philosophers of this type thinks emotionally and understands
that all life, even digital life, can be emotionally roiling (Turkle, 464). When children play with their
Tamagotchis and Furbies, they can experiment their actions with toys and not with people. This
allows for them to understand the consequences of mistreating

The Effect Of Oxygen Deficiency On Lake Ontario
Introduction Background:
The focus of this research project is to identify if there is an oxygen deficiency in lake Ontario
through the cause of rising phosphorus levels and effects of climate change. Measuring the
dissolved oxygen levels in lakes, rivers and oceans is crucial to determine if the water quality is
affecting the organisms in its ecosystem. Low dissolved oxygen levels will have an effect on the
organism s like fish and other species that require oxygen to breathe that are part of that particular
ecosystem. If the dissolved oxygen is not substantial enough it can severely deplete the quality of
life of the water body in which case the water body can be considered dead . This process is called
eutrophication. The focus for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lake Ontario is the 14th largest lake in the world with a water surface area of over 18,900 kmВІ
[Schindler, 2008]. However it is the most polluted lake of all the five Great Lakes [Schindler,
2008]. From industrial runoff, urbanization due to high population density around the lake as well
as agriculture runoff, there are many sources of nutrient pollution around Lake Ontario. With the
nutrient pollution of the lake in this case I am focusing on phosphorus concentration causing the
lake to become anoxic. This can also be seen as the Eutrophication of lake Ontario due to
phosphorus levels. Eutrophication occurs when there is a high concentration of phosphorus in a
body of water. As a result aquatic vegetation and phytoplankton levels increase in the body of
water, also known as an algal bloom [Aquafor Beech, 2005]. Then, when algae decay s, it
consumes oxygen from the water body, resulting in the body of water to become oxygen deficient.
This makes the biotic components in the lake, which include fish and shellfish, difficult to survive
because of the low dissolved oxygen levels making the phosphorus levels of the lake a limiting
factor. Climate Change is the long term alteration in climate of a particular location or region or for
the entire planet (Shrestha, 2014). The other concept that people get confused with climate change
is global warming. Global warming is an effect of climate change, it

Investigating the Rate of Reaction Between Marble Chips...
Investigating the rate of reaction between Marble Chips (Calcium Carbonate) and hydrochloric acid
Aim.
In the investigation I am going to find out how the surface area affects the rate of reaction by
measuring the amount of gas produced and weight loss in a reaction between small/large pieces of
Marble
Chips (Calcium Carbonate) and Hydrochloric acid per minute.
Hypothesis.
The rate of reaction increases when the surface area of a solid reactant is increased. This happens
because by increasing the surface area we are also increasing the rate of collisions between the
particles. When there is more of the reactant to react with the reaction speeds up. Therefore, my
hypothesis is: the reaction will be faster when using small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
This increased the accuracy of the obtained results.
GRAPH
From the table of results and the graphs I can deduce that by increasing the surface area the rate
at which the gas was produced also increased. The line which represented the amount of gas given
off on the graph was steeper in the test using powder therefore the gas was produced at a faster
rate. Roughly the same amount of gas was produced in all tests. Therefore my hypothesis was
correct.
Evaluation.
As I repeated the experiment 3 times and worked out the average rate of reaction in each test, I
think my results are quite reliable.
However, I could make further improvement by increasing the number of tests and taking the
results with a smaller gap such as 10 seconds instead of 20. I could also increase the amount of
Calcium Carbonate to more than 2g and keep the

Indians under the control of white men . The main difference between the two was that Chief
Joseph was an actual American Indian and Jackson was only a white woman who sympathized
with the American Indians. Chief Joseph, was a courageous leader of a large tribe called Nez

Coming of Age in Mississippi vs. The Jungle Paper
Coming of Age in Mississippi vs. The Jungle Paper
There is an argument that states that Anne Moody s tale in Coming of Age in Mississippi is a
more optimistic tale then that of Jurgis Rutkis in The Jungle and vice versa. This is not the case.
When you take the time to analyze both story, you come to find that both have the same pessimistic
core. The only difference is the character Jurgis was optimist throughout most of the beginning
despite his circumstances yet in the end he loses all hope while Anne throughout was a realist who
was determined to succeed.
I feel that Anne Moody story is a blunt open description of how hard live was for Blacks.

She was determined to seek out equality. These realities started when she became aware of the
differences in how Blacks are treated with in their race how light skinned were treated better than
dark skinned. Raymond was going with a yellow woman at the same time he was going with
Mama. All of his people wanted him to marry her. They didn t want him to marry
Mama, who wasn t yellow and who was stuck with the three of us. This type of racism is prevalent
in the south during the pre Civil Rights period. Ms. Moody learns how badly White
People can treat Black by the death of Emmit Till.
When faced with the facts of Moody s life, it is not hard to figure out where the inspiration and
optimism comes in to play. A person can find hope when thinking about the dedication and diligence
she took in being a good student from elementary through high school.
The optimism comes from looking at how she scrapes together the money it took to go to college.
Even though she might have grown up with a hard life, she fought for different ways to better it.
Her diligence to have a better life is best described by her commitment to the Civil
Rights movement. She was willing to go the distance to get the equal rights she felt was owed to
her. Look at how Moody kept pressing to get blacks in Mississippi to register to vote. At the time,
little more the 5% of African Americans in Mississippi were registered voters. This is in large part

The Destruction Of Self Individuality In America Today
The Destruction of Self Individuality In a world where people are edged to act as their own,
comes the contradiction of perspicacity. If, and when, what you do, wear, or feel doesn t align
with society s description of ideal; it then falls as an act of rebellion, misconduct, or the seeking
of attention. Today, as individuals of society, we are eradicating each other other not by the
temperament of a person, but by the image we portray everyone to be. Anything more or less
than that is anathema. Individuality is limited and under attack in America today. The
destruction of self individuality takes place during all stages of life, not just as an adolescent.
Although children often do not take into consideration the thoughts of those around them, does
not make them any less susceptible to it. As children we are taught that pink is a girl color and
blue is for boys, girls play will dolls and boys play with trucks, girls must always behave properly
and boys will be boys . We limit the desired toys they want, option of favorite colors, and the
option of distinct originality. We often do not realize the restrictions we set on the younger
generations because those are the rules of society, and we must play the game. As the teenage years
approach, we enforce more rules at a stricter rate. At this point in time, what you... Show more

But we must keep it in our minds that freedom of individuality is only ours to a certain extent .
The limitations are set out far worse than the few examples mentioned. Our society is not very
accepting of anything over or under what we consider normal, and that s the thing. This is our
society that we are all a part of, and are all guilty of being a part of the destruction. There will
never be a change until the realization is clear to all. If we want a change, it starts with us.
Individuality is under attack in America today, and we the people are attacking

Clean Water Pollution
a.There is pollution in major bodies of water in Iowa due to runoff from farms. This runoff
makes its way through rivers and streams to eventually reach the Gulf of Mexico. Runoff is a
major issue in Buena Vista, a county in Iowa, because it s water has been so badly polluted.
Raccoon River was so badly polluted that the Des Moines Water Works filed a federal lawsuit
against them. Buena Vista county decided to hire multiple law groups to handle the lawsuit. This
came with the question as to who was funding these law groups as they were being paid by a
group of donators. Eventually the county had to clean the Raccoon River and the question was
posed of how to limit the amount of nitrogen pollution caused by the runoff from Raccoon River. It
was estimated to cost $16 billion to clean the river which wasn t economically logical.

Open ended loans are loans that you can borrow over and over. Credit cards and lines of credit
are the most common types of open ended loans. With both of these loans, you have a credit limit
that you can purchase against. Each time you make a purchase, your available credit decreases. As
you make payments, your available increases allowing you to use the same credit over and over.
Close ended loans
Closed ended loans cannot be borrowed once they ve been repaid. As you make payments on
closed ended loans, the balance of the loan goes down. However, you don t have any available
credit you can use on closed ended loans. Instead, if you need to borrow more money, you d have
to apply for another loan. Common types of closed ended loans include mortgage loans, auto loans,
and student loans.

Pubius Cornelius Tacitus Essay
Pubius Cornelius Tacitus (55 118AD), was a historian from an equestrian family born in either
norther Italy or Southern Gaul who wrote Biography of Agricola in 98 AD followed by
Histories in 105 AD. The first document, an excerpt from Biography of Agricola 29 32 is a
fictional speech from the British war chief named Calgacus who was preparing his people for
battle against Gnaes Julius Agricola the governor of the Roman provinces in Briton from 78 85 AD
and also Tacitusfather in law. The second document is an excerpt from Tacitus Histories 4.74
which is also a fictional speech. This speech given through the view point of Petillius Cerialis a

definite bias towards how and why he wrote that document. As for the excerpt from Histories could
the fact that he may be from southern Gaul have influenced him to write the speech? For both

Harry Hopkins Contributions
Abstract
This paper will explore three important aspects that Harry Hopkins achieved in this social work
career. Fist the path he took in working within the social work field, second the contributions he
made and lastly how his work could inform individuals working in the practice of a social
worker. Utilizing eight different articles, this paper will explore the life of Harry Hopkins and

Literature Review On Sales Promotion
Introduction and Literature review Sales promotion is very significant tool of marketing .The
purpose of sales promotion is to increase sales by instilling feeling of purchase on the spot in the
mindset of customers. Behavior of customer is influenced by activities of sales promotion. The sales
promotion tools affect directly on the purchase behavior of the firm s consumers. Firms need to

According to Shultz, et al. (1998) also behavior is influenced directly by promotional techniques. It
has little impact on attitude changing factors related to consumers. According to Kwok

Why Recreational Hunting Of Western Canada Is Morally...
In his letter titled Why Recreational Hunting in Western Canada is Morally Justified, Sven states
that he is arguing for responsible hunting where the primary benefits are the pleasure of hunting
animals in the wilderness and eating their meat. Despite several strengths, his weaknesses in
reasoning outweigh the few positives. Thus, the letter s overall worth is negligible. The letter s
weaknesses in reasoning lie in Sven s central justifications for recreational hunting, being human
pleasure and eating meat, in his supporting argument for animal suffering, and in his failure to
define recreational hunting s necessity. To begin, I will address the strengths of Sven s letter. The
first strength is that Sven defines his argument s parameters, allowing him to eliminate several
counterarguments against his claim. Sven specifies that the hunting type he argues for does not
include killing for protection or sustenance, nor negligent hunting practices that promote needless
harm to humans, property, or wildlife. Additionally, Sven rejects using bait or vehicles. Sven s most
significant strength is when he defines the moral relationship between humans and animals, stating,
[a]nimals deserve respect, but so do humans, and when there is conflict of interests, the interest that
humans have in feeding their families must prevail. Stuart Rachels, in his evaluation of
Utilitarianism, argues that humans are special in many ways but are not the only beings capable of
suffering, and thus

Donna Hahraway When Species Meet
Donna Haraway s (2008) When Species Meet is a post human analysis of the categorisation of the
world into human and non human, questioning the divisions that define contemporary Western
society. Chapter twelve, Parting Bites summarises her work, a critical evaluation of the dichotomy
between animals seen as companion animals and pets, and animals that aren t. She focuses on the
technocultural climate of today, proposing the notion of companion species, a coming together of
more than just humans and animals; technologies, organisms and landscapes are among those that
she argues break bread together with humans. This comes under her main goal alterglobalisation
and autre mondelisation changing the world from what it is now,... Show more content on

Through anecdotes, ethnography, interviews with scholars, and academic research, she
successfully posits that the divides that govern modern western society are arbitrary and not
founded on any particular reasoning. Numerous examples of situations where power relations
between animals and humans are skewed facilitate her argument examples of animals in labs
being cloned, arguments of bioethics, breeding programmes for dogs, pig farms, chicken farms,
and a range of other situations where humans are seen as more worthy of life than animals
illustrate the way in which we as a society have come to ignore the damage we are doing to
animals and the planet, if one considers the idea of the anthropocene. Human exceptionalism ties
well into ideas of this, as we can consider the consequences of our narcissism on the planet.
Haraway (2008)also considers this in her pledge for alterglobalisation, theorizing that changing the
relationship between animals and humans can change the way in which we are developing as a
society and potentially reduce our impact upon the planet. Overall, she provides a well structured,
well evidenced argument for the abandonment of the views we hold today towards our own species
and the invisible divisions that govern

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV)
MERS CoV is a respiratory disease that was first found in Saudi Arabia in 2012. This virus can
cause people to get diseases such as the common cold to a Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
(SARS). MERS CoV cases have been found in a few countries throughout the world, but mostly
have been found in Middle Eastern countries such as Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and
Saudi Arabia. Countries other than the Middle Easthave had MERS CoV cases such as Germany,
France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. Reasons for the spread of
the disease is believe to be caused by tourist or relatives traveling to and from the Middle East.
Respiratory symptoms of this virus can be fever, cough, shortness of breath, and pneumonia.
Patients can also have gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea. If the patient becomes
severely ill, they may have a respiratory failure and would be placed on a respirator or a
ventilator. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) website, Approximately 27% of
patients with MERS have died. The organization also claims that the virus causes a severer
disease in the elderly, people with a weak immune system, and people that may gave a chronic

Stereotypes In Family Guy
When people think of domestic jobs they think of jobs that give low pay, are labor intensive, have
no benefits, require no degree work to carry out, and are worked by minorities. While these
perceptions for the most part are true; the negative stigma attached to them is wrong as well as the
assumption that only minorities are the ones who work them. Another negative portrayal of
Mexicans displayed by the media is that Mexicans only work domestic jobs, but that is not the
reality. In the show Family Guywhere they too make fun of ethnic groups regarding their

gathered information from the U.S. Census Bureau to show the occupation of jobs that Mexicans

jobs that take a higher level of education to obtain. Although the percentage of Mexicans occupying
these jobs is low the assumption and stereotyping of all Mexicans assuming they work domestic
jobs is something that should not be done because it diminishes the accomplishments of the

Primary Effusion Lymphoma
Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is caused by clonal expansion of human herpesvirus 8
(HHV8; also known as Kaposi s sarcoma associated herpesvirus) infected B cells (Nador et al.,
1996). HHV8 is an oncogenic herpesvirus that pathogenically infects endothelial cells and B
lymphocytes. Besides, PEL is also implicated in the pathogenesis of Kaposi s sarcoma and
multicentric Castleman s disease (Carbone et al., 2009; Cai et al., 2010).
The replicative cycle of HHV8 exists as latency and lytic replication. During latency only a
restricted subset of viral transcripts is expressed, (including LANA, v FLIP, and v cyclin) that
contribute to HHV8 associated malignancies by the manipulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis

There are ample evidences that show potential chemotherapeutic efficacy of EGCG against cancers
of the skin, lung, breast, colon, liver, stomach and prostate (Kanwar et al., 2012). EGCG is auto
oxidized in both cells and culture media, and the oxidized EGCG induces apoptosis in cells. Recent
studies demonstrate that EGCG can induce the preferential death in cancer cells is due to the cancer
specific induction of ROS (reactive oxygen species) (Min et al., 2012). EGCG was also shown to
block EBV induced transformation and the expression of viral lytic proteins (Chang et al., 2003;
Choi et al., 2009). However, the effects of EGCG on PEL cells and HHV8 replication in PEL cells
have not yet been reported.
In this study, we investigated the antitumor and antiviral activity of EGCG against human primary
effusion lymphoma cells. Our data demonstrate that EGCG induces cell death of PEL cells via a
mechanism involving generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). We also examined the effects
of EGCG on HHV8 replication and reactivation. Even though EGCG induced ROS generation in
PEL cells, it reduced the production of progeny virus from PEL cells without causing HHV8
reactivation. These results suggest that EGCG may represent a novel strategy for the treatment of
HHV8 infection and HHV8 associated

Diarrhea Research Paper
Many dogs are taken to veterinary clinics due to diarrhea. A dog s diarrhea is usually resolved
after a day or two but more serious cases would last longer putting the life of the pet at risk.
Contrary to the general belief, diarrhea is not an illness but a symptom of an underlying medical
concern that is often associated with the dogs gastrointestinal system.
Loose bowel movement of dogs is often associated with the inability of the gastrointestinal system
to function normally but this condition can also indicate infection, food allergies and intestinal
parasites. Dogs have a reputation for being voracious and indiscriminate eaters. Diarrhea would
result if the dog has eaten something that disagrees with its system. Ingestion of foreign objects can
be another reason why the dog is passing soft stool.
Diarrhea is not hard to treat but in order to restore the normal balance of the dog s digestive
system it is necessary to know the reasons for the dog s abnormal defecation. Canine diarrhea can

dumb? Since the creation of the Internet, Google was always there to provide immediate answers

Google being the main search engine on the web, many researchers believe that it has a double

Adam and Eve and Temptation Essay

AP English 12
20 December 2010
Temptation Temptation has been around since the conception of our Earth. All civilizations,
including the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, the British, and even modern day individuals,
have fallen victim to temptations that the world offers. John Owen described temptation as a knife,
that may either cut the meat or the throat of a man; it may be his food or his poison, his exercise or
destruction. A temptation is an act that appears enticing to an individual, but is usually coupled
with damaging implications that may lead to feelings of regret and remorse. A person may fall

Temptation is also rabid in most high school settings. Sex, illegal drugs, alcohol, cheating, and
tobacco are all temptations students are faced with on a daily basis. Teenagers must each make
personal decisions to either refrain from immoral conduct or succumb to the temptations of peer
pressure, usually with the hopes of being accepted. The temptations of potentially destructive
decisions are immense. It takes a strong willed individual to stand up against the majority and
hold true to his values. Not bowing to temptation is a difficult task for any person, but especially
for a high school student who is more worried about his own popularity and appearance and has yet
to grow his moral fibers. The temptations that the youth of our modern culture experience are very
appealing, but their consequences are more damaging than ever before. Temptation surrounds our
lives. Daily, we make decisions to either surrender to it or to persevere against it. It takes courage,
bravery, and discipline to withstand temptation. William Butler Yeatswrote that Every conquering
temptation represents a new found moral energy. Every trial endured and weathered in the right
spirit makes a soul nobler and stronger than it was before. When an individual overcomes the
temptation of participating in an immoral act, he grows as a person and becomes morally stronger.
With the knowledge of the results of a bad decision, a person can learn

Guilt In Sophocles Oedipus The King
Remorse, the feeling of deep guilt and regret for the commitment of a crime or atrocity, is a major
element in classical Greek tragedies. The resulting anguish that the character feels enhances the
magnitude of the catastrophe, as the atrocity is transformed into a powerful emotion bringing it to a
relatable level. In Sophocless Oedipus Rex, retold by John Bennett and Moira Kerr, and Antigone
translated by E.F. Watling, the reader witnesses how different aspects of each play contribute
towards the final tragic ending. While both Creon and Oedipus exhibit feelings of remorse,
Oedipus displays a higher degree of contrition as a result of his hamartia, his thanatos and the

Creon is now conscious that he has, unintentionally, killed his only son. The chorus conveys his
feelings of anguish as they say by the burden that proves too well the guilt, no other man s but

breath cursed you, their slayer that make him realize the wrongdoings of his actions. It is then
when he recognizes that, had he not been stubborn and prideful, his son and wife would still be
alive. It is the shepherd s proclamation about the baby he had left all those years ago that make
Oedipus realize the effects of his actions. The story says, And the shepherd told his story . . .
given the child of Laius to a messenger, who would take the baby to be raised by the king of

and sentences himself to a life in exile and blindness because he had killed his real father while

Iroquois Creation Myths
Throughout the world myths are used to teach morals and spread information in a way that is
entertaining and delightful to children and adults alike. One popular type of story is the creation

These two myths have many similarities but the most important one is the heavy reliance on the
small creatures in their society. Both in the Iroquois and the Cherokee myths there is a little
creature that helps out tremendously by diving to the bottom of the ocean. In the Iroquois myth it
is the muskrat who, dived and disappeared...After a long time, his little body floated to the surface

Gram Positive And Gram-Positive Bacteria
Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria can be distinguished by conducting biochemical tests. Its
growth can be examined on selected mediums containing metabolic inhibitors such as antibiotics.
The medias utilized in this project are: media containing the antibiotic vancomycin, Eosin
Methylene Blue lactose (EMB lactose) agar, and Phenylethyl alcohol (PEA) agar (Holbrook and
Leicht 2017). Vancomycin is most effective at inhibiting the growth of Gram positive cocci
(Rotschafer et al. 2005). EMB lactose agar inhibits the growth of many Gram positive bacteriaand
the lactose component of the medium allows for lactose fermenting bacteria to cause color
changes within the medium (Reynolds 2011). The presence of lactose fermenters in the EMB
lactose agar will cause a color change in the resulting colonies based on the strength of their
acidity. A metallic green colony indicates that that active fermenters are present. A pink colony
indicates that weak fermenters are present. If a bacterial species does not ferment lactose, it will
appear white or colorless (Holbrook and Leicht 2017). PEA agar is a selective medium that
inhibits the growth of most Gram negative bacteria species. It does so by interrupting the lipids
within the Gram negative cell membrane, which will affect its permeability to certain molecules.
This could result in the intake of materials that are supposed to be blocked and the release of
potassium from within the cell, which is necessary for DNA synthesis (Lal and

advantages have not always overruled them. The worst part of my disadvantages is that I have no
control over them. As I continue to live life, I struggle to overcome my disadvantages and to shine

has always been seen as a negative. From the moment my ancestors were brought to the United

Analysis Of Human Interest By Carol Ann Duffy
German Canadian Eckhart Tolle once said, Where there is anger there is always pain underneath.
Such a statement is hardly profound, but perhaps it is the key to understanding the narrator s
motivation behind killing his loved one in Carol Ann Duffy s Human Interest. In the poem, an
unnamed narrator speaks to the reader from his prison cell, where he is carrying a fifteen year
minimum sentence at for killing his cheating girlfriend. Throughout the short four stanzapoem, he
takes us the reader through the how and the why behind the crime, but the most compelling part
of Human Interest lies in its conclusion, where the narrator completely abandons all indications
of anger to reveal raw grief, pain, and perhaps regret: When I think about her now, I near choke
with / with grief (Duffy 12 13). From a superficial standpoint, the first characteristic about Duffy s
writing is its rigid structure. Like the cells in the prison the narrator writes from, Human Interest is
strictly segregated into near perfect rectangular blocks. The 14 line poem is a sonnet, split up into
four stanzas that alternate between containing three and four lines each; most of the lines contain
exactly ten syllables, another traditional characteristic of the sonnet. The only exceptions to this
rule occur at lines 9 and 14; in line 9 the author laments that how his lover tore him apart, and in
line 14 (which will be examined in more detail shortly) he expresses regret by stating he wouldn t

Pros And Cons Of Illegal Immigration
Illegal immigration has been an ineradicable issue for decades. Hundreds of thousands of hopeful
immigrants have illegally entered the United States of America via Mexican border or the Pacific
Ocean whilst others entered the country legally through visit visas yet overstayed and found low
paying jobs to settle in the United Statesof America. Illegal immigrationhas both pros and cons: on
one hand, it helps the local economy as illegal immigrants aren t paid as much as the legal ones
but on the other hand they do not fulfill their taxes. The rise of illegal migration observable in the
past couple of years is a natural human response to the desperate situation of inability to leave the
place where they feel useless. Illegal migration can thus be easily curbed by making legal entry
simpler.
People do not always leave their country with a happy and content heart, most likely because they
can t apprehend their future in their own countries which forces them to look for other options but
when the legal immigration process takes so long, people try to find shortcuts and loopholes.
America is a prosperous nation that attracts immigrants to migrate here and build their future they
couldn t in their own homelands. The idea of deporting all of the illegal immigrants regardless of
their background isn t just unreasonable, its costly and time consuming. The government just can t
go door to door and pull out these immigrants and deport them because this costs an extreme

  • 2. Evaluation Of The Portfolio Management System Guinn_ENVM625_M2_GradedAssign Payback Model As part of the portfolio management system, a selection criterion is used to determine which projects are most in accord with the organizations mission. Selection criteria is usually either financial or non financial. In the example provided we are considering which project will meet the needs of high annual cash flow for the small startup company. Using the financial criteria for selection we will employ the payback model, which allows for the direct assessment of future cash flows. This model measures the time it will take for the recovery of the project investment (Larson Gray, 2011). The limitations of this model are the assumed cash flow during only the investment period, the exclusion of profitability, and the effect of the time value of money (Murphy, 2016). Results: Project 1: 5.7 years; Project 2: 7.5 years; and Project 3: 5 years. Based on the results, Project 3 would satisfy the high annual cash flow requirement with a shorter payback period of 5 years. Net present value (NPV) Net present value uses managements minimum desired rate of return to calculate the value of all net cash inflow (Larson Grey, 2011). A positive value is desired, and is the indication of the project eligible for consideration. The greater the values the higher the rank in consideration. A negative value would indicate the project is not financially viable. Results: Using the Investopedia NPV calculator, it was determined ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Difference Between Modernist Drama And Realist Drama This essay aims to show and discuss the ways in which modernist drama is different to realist drama. To do this the essay will focus on the conventions of language and subject identity to show how modernist drama challenges the ways of realist drama. This essay will first outline what modernism is. It will then look at the conventions of both language and subject identity separately, providing examples where needed. Finally, the essay will look at Pirandello s play and discuss how it relates to the modernist dramastyle before concluding. When something is considered contemporary or in style, it is considered to be modern. From the late 18th century to the early 19th century there was a shift in history. There was a rise in capitalist societies and an increase in industrial productivity. This created the start of modernity. Macey (2001) refers to modernity as the period of the modern. The changes in the world demanded a response from art. All forms of art had to create a new way of thought for this new world. This is how modernism or the modernist ... The use of a tape recorder changes the way time in a play works. One can say that Beckett found a way to loophole the fact that play s cannot have flashbacks. Krapp listens to his younger self on his tape recorder and finds that some of the language used was now meaningless to his older self. This shows that language is contextual. The language used in the stage directions are quite unusual such as rusty black and wearish old man. While one can visualise what these words mean, there is no standard definition for the words. However the way in which both Hover Car Racer, written by Matthew Reily and Back to the Future Part II, directed by Robert Zemeckis, show interpretations of the future intertwined with a reality similar to the one we know today. She can decide between George, who can provide for her all of the material objects that she could want, and Joseph, who treats her as an equal to him and cares for her very much. In Walter s case, he is stuck in an imperfect relationship with his wife Ruth, and he cannot divorce her because they have a twelve year old son to care for and a baby on the way. This faulty relationship is best shown in the first scene when Walter casually says to his wife, But you wouldn t do nothing to help, would you? You couldn t be on my side that long for nothing, could you? (Hansberry 32) This morning conversation between the two is an average, typical talk, which shows that the relationship is certainly in decline. Even during the middle of the play, when they go to the movies and hold hands, this love does not even last until the end of the play. Walter s relationship with his wife brings a feeling of sympathy upon him because he cannot avoid it and that he is past the ideal age for finding a partner. Furthermore, in Sherry Turkle s selections from Alone Together , Turkle discusses the unique relationship between a child and his or her artificially intelligent toys, some of which included Tamagotchis and Furbies. Interestingly, children give these toys special treatment relative to other toys. • 11. The Effect Of Oxygen Deficiency On Lake Ontario Introduction Background: The focus of this research project is to identify if there is an oxygen deficiency in lake Ontario through the cause of rising phosphorus levels and effects of climate change. Measuring the dissolved oxygen levels in lakes, rivers and oceans is crucial to determine if the water quality is affecting the organisms in its ecosystem. Low dissolved oxygen levels will have an effect on the organism s like fish and other species that require oxygen to breathe that are part of that particular ecosystem. If the dissolved oxygen is not substantial enough it can severely deplete the quality of life of the water body in which case the water body can be considered dead . This process is called eutrophication. The focus for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lake Ontario is the 14th largest lake in the world with a water surface area of over 18,900 kmВІ [Schindler, 2008]. However it is the most polluted lake of all the five Great Lakes [Schindler, 2008]. From industrial runoff, urbanization due to high population density around the lake as well as agriculture runoff, there are many sources of nutrient pollution around Lake Ontario. With the nutrient pollution of the lake in this case I am focusing on phosphorus concentration causing the lake to become anoxic. This can also be seen as the Eutrophication of lake Ontario due to phosphorus levels. Eutrophication occurs when there is a high concentration of phosphorus in a body of water. As a result aquatic vegetation and phytoplankton levels increase in the body of water, also known as an algal bloom [Aquafor Beech, 2005]. Then, when algae decay s, it consumes oxygen from the water body, resulting in the body of water to become oxygen deficient. This makes the biotic components in the lake, which include fish and shellfish, difficult to survive because of the low dissolved oxygen levels making the phosphorus levels of the lake a limiting factor. In the investigation I am going to find out how the surface area affects the rate of reaction by measuring the amount of gas produced and weight loss in a reaction between small/large pieces of Marble Chips (Calcium Carbonate) and Hydrochloric acid per minute. Hypothesis. The rate of reaction increases when the surface area of a solid reactant is increased. This happens because by increasing the surface area we are also increasing the rate of collisions between the particles. When there is more of the reactant to react with the reaction speeds up. Therefore, my hypothesis is: the reaction will be faster when using small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This increased the accuracy of the obtained results. Roughly the same amount of gas was produced in all tests. Therefore my hypothesis was correct. Evaluation. As I repeated the experiment 3 times and worked out the average rate of reaction in each test, I think my results are quite reliable. In his letter titled Why Recreational Hunting in Western Canada is Morally Justified, Sven states that he is arguing for responsible hunting where the primary benefits are the pleasure of hunting animals in the wilderness and eating their meat. Despite several strengths, his weaknesses in reasoning outweigh the few positives. Thus, the letter s overall worth is negligible. The letter s weaknesses in reasoning lie in Sven s central justifications for recreational hunting, being human pleasure and eating meat, in his supporting argument for animal suffering, and in his failure to define recreational hunting s necessity. To begin, I will address the strengths of Sven s letter. The first strength is that Sven defines his argument s parameters, allowing him to eliminate several counterarguments against his claim. Sven specifies that the hunting type he argues for does not include killing for protection or sustenance, nor negligent hunting practices that promote needless harm to humans, property, or wildlife. Additionally, Sven rejects using bait or vehicles. Sven s most significant strength is when he defines the moral relationship between humans and animals, stating, [a]nimals deserve respect, but so do humans, and when there is conflict of interests, the interest that humans have in feeding their families must prevail. • 28. Primary Effusion Lymphoma Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is caused by clonal expansion of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8; also known as Kaposi s sarcoma associated herpesvirus) infected B cells (Nador et al., 1996). HHV8 is an oncogenic herpesvirus that pathogenically infects endothelial cells and B lymphocytes. Besides, PEL is also implicated in the pathogenesis of Kaposi s sarcoma and multicentric Castleman s disease (Carbone et al., 2009; Cai et al., 2010). The replicative cycle of HHV8 exists as latency and lytic replication. During latency only a restricted subset of viral transcripts is expressed, (including LANA, v FLIP, and v cyclin) that contribute to HHV8 associated malignancies by the manipulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis (Cesarman et al., 1995; Cai ... There are ample evidences that show potential chemotherapeutic efficacy of EGCG against cancers of the skin, lung, breast, colon, liver, stomach and prostate (Kanwar et al., 2012). EGCG is auto oxidized in both cells and culture media, and the oxidized EGCG induces apoptosis in cells. Recent studies demonstrate that EGCG can induce the preferential death in cancer cells is due to the cancer specific induction of ROS (reactive oxygen species) (Min et al., 2012). EGCG was also shown to block EBV induced transformation and the expression of viral lytic proteins (Chang et al., 2003; Choi et al., 2009). However, the effects of EGCG on PEL cells and HHV8 replication in PEL cells have not yet been reported. In this study, we investigated the antitumor and antiviral activity of EGCG against human primary effusion lymphoma cells. Our data demonstrate that EGCG induces cell death of PEL cells via a mechanism involving generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). We also examined the effects of EGCG on HHV8 replication and reactivation. Even though EGCG induced ROS generation in PEL cells, it reduced the production of progeny virus from PEL cells without causing HHV8 reactivation. These results suggest that EGCG may represent a novel strategy for the treatment of HHV8 infection and HHV8 associated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Gram Positive And Gram-Positive Bacteria Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria can be distinguished by conducting biochemical tests. Its growth can be examined on selected mediums containing metabolic inhibitors such as antibiotics. The medias utilized in this project are: media containing the antibiotic vancomycin, Eosin Methylene Blue lactose (EMB lactose) agar, and Phenylethyl alcohol (PEA) agar (Holbrook and Leicht 2017). Vancomycin is most effective at inhibiting the growth of Gram positive cocci (Rotschafer et al. 2005). EMB lactose agar inhibits the growth of many Gram positive bacteriaand the lactose component of the medium allows for lactose fermenting bacteria to cause color changes within the medium (Reynolds 2011). The presence of lactose fermenters in the EMB lactose agar will cause a color change in the resulting colonies based on the strength of their acidity. A metallic green colony indicates that that active fermenters are present. A pink colony indicates that weak fermenters are present. If a bacterial species does not ferment lactose, it will appear white or colorless (Holbrook and Leicht 2017). PEA agar is a selective medium that inhibits the growth of most Gram negative bacteria species. It does so by interrupting the lipids within the Gram negative cell membrane, which will affect its permeability to certain molecules. This could result in the intake of materials that are supposed to be blocked and the release of potassium from within the cell, which is necessary for DNA synthesis (Lal and ... • 40. Analysis Of Human Interest By Carol Ann Duffy German Canadian Eckhart Tolle once said, Where there is anger there is always pain underneath. Such a statement is hardly profound, but perhaps it is the key to understanding the narrator s motivation behind killing his loved one in Carol Ann Duffy s Human Interest. In the poem, an unnamed narrator speaks to the reader from his prison cell, where he is carrying a fifteen year minimum sentence at for killing his cheating girlfriend. Throughout the short four stanzapoem, he takes us the reader through the how and the why behind the crime, but the most compelling part of Human Interest lies in its conclusion, where the narrator completely abandons all indications of anger to reveal raw grief, pain, and perhaps regret: When I think about her now, I near choke with / with grief (Duffy 12 13). From a superficial standpoint, the first characteristic about Duffy s writing is its rigid structure. Like the cells in the prison the narrator writes from, Human Interest is strictly segregated into near perfect rectangular blocks. The 14 line poem is a sonnet, split up into four stanzas that alternate between containing three and four lines each; most of the lines contain exactly ten syllables, another traditional characteristic of the sonnet. The only exceptions to this rule occur at lines 9 and 14; in line 9 the author laments that how his lover tore him apart, and in line 14 (which will be examined in more detail shortly) he expresses regret by stating he wouldn t harm a ... Hundreds of thousands of hopeful immigrants have illegally entered the United States of America via Mexican border or the Pacific Ocean whilst others entered the country legally through visit visas yet overstayed and found low paying jobs to settle in the United Statesof America. Illegal immigrationhas both pros and cons: on one hand, it helps the local economy as illegal immigrants aren t paid as much as the legal ones but on the other hand they do not fulfill their taxes. The rise of illegal migration observable in the past couple of years is a natural human response to the desperate situation of inability to leave the place where they feel useless.
