History of Chinese Students Studying Abroad or in the U.S.
Introduction: history of Chinese students studying abroad in U.S. The history of Chinese students
studying in American universities dates back to the mid 1850s, when the first student, Yung Wing,
graduated from Yale University in 1854 (Bartlett and Fischer Para. 8). After that. Qin Dynasty starts
sending Chinese students to learned new sciences and technologies and we called Westernization
Movement . The educational missions to the US were organized in the 1870s to train specialists who
would create better engines and iron hulls for Chinese ships (Bartlett and Fischer Para. 8). The 1870s
mission involved about 120 students, who were sponsored to study at the United States top
universities. Since the 1870s, the number of Chinese students in American colleges has grown
exponentially to become the largest population of foreign students in the US (Institute of International
Education [IIE] 7). After the Qing court s resistance to reform and by China s weakness, Sun Yat Sen
led a revolutionary military uprising. During the regime changing time, people really didn t know
what democracy is. Therefore, more and more students chose to study abroad to learn about the
western political system. Chinese students travel to the US to pursue a degree in Western colleges,
which they consider to be among the best learning institutions in the world. Figure 1 Number of

Personal Narrative Essay On Freedom Rides
It was just another Sunday morning. There were birds chirping, sun shining, people driving fords and
Chevrolet s up and down the streets. When I got out of bed and went downstairs I saw that my family
had already started breakfast and were all still at the table and talking faintly about something very
quietly. My mother noticed me walk into the kitchen and told me that the rest of the family had just
finished breakfast and that I could pull up a T.V. tray and watch Sing Along With Mitch with my older
brother and sister and that she would make me some Flapjacks and be there in a flash. So I went into
the den and my brother and sister were there talking and greeted me. I asked my brother why they
were whispering and my mom shot him a look saying and he said Never mind, it doesn t matter and

And as we continued on we turned on the TV and saw a public service announcement saying With the
cooperation of the cops, on May 15, 1961, a mob containing more than 100 members of the KKK
ambush the Freedom Riders in Anniston AL, attacking the Greyhound bus, smashing windows,
slashing tires. The bus tried to flee the scene, but the attackers gave chase, halting the bus on the
outskirts of town, and then setting it on fire with Molotov s. The mob traps the Freedom Rides on the
other side of the doors shut to burn the Riders alive. Luckily, The Alabama Highway Patrol has an
undercover cop on board and He pulls his gun to force the KKK back, and people suddenly tumble off
the bus barely escaping with their lives just before the gas tanks explode. SNCC student Hank Thomas
was beaten with a baseball bat in the head while other Freedom Riders are assaulted. When the
violence weakens, a 12 year old American girl who lives nearby defies the taunts and insults of the
KKK to bring water for the bleeding Riders who are still choking from the smoke. For daring to help
the injured Riders, she and her family are later banned and forced to

1000 Creds Essay

The two main themes, domes and the sky, are represented in all denominations as in the previous

Therefore, I made the decision of splitting the story into two posters that could work as part of the
same marketing campaign whose main goal is to show the deep contrasts between life in COIN and
life on the surface.
The first motion poster is focused on scenes 1 and 2 of the storyboard. In scene 1, the dome that
covers an atomic reactor crashes and the radiation spreads rapidly. The dome rotates as a way of
transitioning to the next scene where the audience, in contrast, can appreciate the magnificence of a
whale swimming near one of the underwater settlements while shinning sunbeams are filtered through
the sea surface. The main goal of this piece is, therefore, to show the deterioration of the environment
and the danger of radiation on the surface in opposition to the peaceful life in the Oceanic cities where
nature is still a top priority.
The second poster is a combination of scenes 3, 4, 5 and 6. In the first part, we can see a dark tunnel
with graffities on its walls and the wheel of a bike with a U lock on the bottom right corner. Suddenly,
the streetlight starts to flicker and a threatening shadow is reflected on the right side of the screen. The
tunnel, which has the same dome shape that appeared in the previous motion poster, rotates once again
to show the following sequence. In this sequence, we can see a woman s hand holding a CMIST card

Art Brodsky E-Book Stealing
In a piece written by Art Brodsky, Art Brodsky argues that beyond, the e book pricing, the real
problem of e books is that it is killing libraries. As Brodsky notes:
Imagine walking into a library or bookstore and needing three or four pairs of different glasses to read
different books manufactured to specific viewing equipment. Or buying a book and then having to
arbitrarily destroy it after say, two weeks. That s just nuts. But it s the current situation we re in with
eBooks.
By this, he is referring to the fact that Amazon, Google and so on, have their e book stores where they
sell goods which works on certain devices. Libraries have been an important part of our human
history, spreading our culture and knowledge over centuries. The internet

The paracrisis: The challenges created by publicly managing crisis prevention
A Case Analysis
Communication is faster than ever due to the advent of the Internet and social media which are venues
for forum, interaction and information/issue dissemination, Today, nearly half a billion people around
the world utilize the Internet. In the United States alone, about 155 million Americans access the
Internet at home, with some citizens accessing the Internet only at work. Internet use by consumers in
other countries, especially Japan (49 million users), the United Kingdom (29 million), Germany (36

Nevertheless, the food and beverage industry has been relatively less affected when compared to other
industries. This is mainly attributed to the fact that food products continue to be essential to consumers
in spite of the slowdown. A comparison between the S P 500 and the Dow Jones US Food and
Beverage Index in 2008 is testimony to the resilient nature of this industry. In 2008, the S P 500
declined 37.6 percent against a fall of 22.9 percent by the Dow Jones US Food and Beverage Index.

Ecosystems is the linkages between two or more sets; however, one of these setting does not directly
contain the developing child. For example, parent s workplace or father s poker game can indirectly
affect a child depending on the current workload or amount of financial windfall.
Microsystem implies the immediate environment of a person. These surrounding include an individual

church and school experiences. I feel if children are rejected by people in the microsystem they are
more likely to have difficulties in having positive relationships with people they come in contact with.
When we have Exosystem can relate to relationships between a social environment in which a person

Vermeer s Skopos, Coherence, And Language
Pragmatics is concerned with the study of meanings as communicated by a speaker (or writer) and
interpreted by a listener (or reader) (Yule 1996). Pragmatics target is to bring speech to its context in
order to understand correctly; as basically in the communication through language there is a way more
than what is said. Pragmatics cannot by any means be explained without comparing it to semantics.
Semantics is known as the study of literal meaning, on the other hand, pragmatics is the study of non
uttered meaning intended by a speaker (writer). Pragmatics is not concerned with the mere meaning of
the language, rather it is concerned with examination of language and the effects of language on
hearer. It investigated also inference of what is said (written) to finally arrive at true interpretation of
intended meaning. Speaker (writer) may say a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are three basic rules of Vermeer s Skopos theory: Skopos, Coherence, and Culture. The theory
stresses the interactional aspects of translation arguing that the shape of the TT should above all be
determined by the function or skopos that is inteded to fulfill in the target context (Shuttleworth and
Cowie, 156, 1997). Coherence is the second rule of skopos theory; there are two types of coherence:
intratextual and intertextual. Culture is the third and final rule of skopos theory.
Skopos rule represents the major and first rule of skopos theory, it solves the eternal dilemma of free
vs faithful translation which represents an evident that the translator s precognition of the purpose of
any translation would aide the translator to choose the translation approach that achieve these skopos.
And (Nord 1997) indicates that skopos of the same translation may need free or literal translation or
mixture of both, it is to be determined by the purpose of the translation each time translation process is

Propaganda In Casablanca
A reading of Casablanca beyond it s pretense of being an old Hollywood romance is the interpretation
of the film as a piece of American or Allied propaganda during its time of release. Present day, the
word propaganda gets a bad reputation, and many consider it a form of manipulation that doesn t
belong in art, however, it is of my belief that, seeing as all art contains a message that it wishes to
convey to its audience, all art is, in some form, political or supports some school of thought or
ideology. For clarity, I will define my use of the word propaganda to mean the dissemination of
information in favor of an ideology or cause, for the means of garnering sympathy towards the cause
and validating the emotions of sympathizers. The transformation

The Media During the Tiananmen Square Protests
There will always be talk about the biases of the media and the perspective in which it takes when
reporting the news; however, when the news is run by the government and the people who write the
news are threatened to withdraw from their positions because they will not write propaganda, it
becomes a serious issue that can lead a country into turmoil. Such was the situation in Beijing, the
capital of China, in 1989, during the student and worker protests at Tiananmen Square and the
ultimate killings that occurred on June 4th of that year.
The role of the Chinese government in the Tiananmen Square protests went far beyond their military

Hu Yaobang, former secretary of the Communist Party, sympathized with the students and their
protests, and was subsequently fired from his post, and later died of a heart attack on April 15th, 1989,
which started turning the wheels of protest.
In the weeks following Hu Yaobang s death, students would filter into Tiananmen Square, despite
government warnings, and stay overnight for Hu s funeral, and held a boycott of classes to demands
talks with the government; the government ignores the students and publishes an editorial on April
25th in People s Daily, the government run news agency, saying that the protests were a conspiracy
against the Communist government in China. Because of that editorial, more students flood into
Tiananmen Square to demand talks with the government and the retraction of the editorial. More was

development of a massive hunger strike, a visit from Mikhail Gorbachev with the government, the

Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness Essay
Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness
In the opening scenes of the documentary film Hearts of Darkness A Filmmaker s Apocalypse,
Eleanor Coppola describes her husband Francis s film, Apocalypse Now, as being loosely based on
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Indeed, loosely is the word; the period, setting, and circumstances
of the film are totally different from those of the novella. Yet, a close analysis of character, plot, and
theme in each respective work reveals that Conrad s classic story of savagery and madness is present
in its cinematic reworking.
The story of Heart of Darkness is narrated by its central character, the seasoned mariner Marlowe, a
recurring figure in Conrad s work. Apocalypse Now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of company man turned savage, of a brilliant and successful team player, being groomed by
the Company for greater things, suddenly gone native, is perfectly realized in both novella and film. In
the film, Kurtz is portrayed by Marlon Brando, the father of American method actors, who lends
weight (both physically and dramatically) to the figure of the megalomaniacal Kurtz. Brando s
massive girth is all the more ironic for those familiar with Heart of Darkness who recall Conrad s
description: I could see the cage of his ribs all astir, the bones of his arms waving. It was as though an
animated image of death carved out of old ivory had been shaking its hand with menaces at a
motionless crowd of men... (Conrad, p.135). One could speculate that Coppola s Kurtz is a graphic
analogy of the bloated American war machine dominating and perverting the innocent montegnards of
Cambodia; however, after viewing Eleanor Coppola s documentary, one finds that the casting was
more based on a combination of Coppola s wanting to work with Brando (remember The Godfather )
and Brando s own weight problem. (It should also be noted that the cult like following of Kurtz in
Heart of Darkness is brilliantly and subtly updated by Coppola in a foreshadowing scene in which
missives to Willard from headquarters are intercut with scenes of newspaper clippings about Charles
Manson.)
Also present in Coppola s film is the loveable, addle headed harlequin/fool

The Effects Of Co2 On The Permeability Of Indian...
Introduction
In the storage of CO2 in the deep geologic reservoirs for enhancing extraction of coalbed methane
area, Vishal et al. argue against the consequences of CO2 injection on the permeability of Indian
bituminous coal at different confining and injection pressure.
The major approach of the journal is to clarify about when and how would the incensement of
injection pressure have impact on the permeability of coalbed methane.
As a final year Civil Engineering student, I found this journal is educational and inspiring. The
research shows a comprehensive explanation of how pressure and stress of permeability of coal to sub
critical CO2 is tested.
Summary
In order to reduce greenhouse gases, Vishal et al. is investigating a ... Show more content on

The effective stress is proportional to the confining pressure and pore pressure. Results, a trend of
exponential decline in permeability with increasing effective stress is observed. During the passage of
CO2 through the coal sample, the gas is absorbed, which cause volume deformation.
The journal concluded that the reduction in permeability of coal maybe attributes to the role of coal
matrix expansion. CO2 gets preferentially adsorbed onto the surface of the coal. At the same time,
adsorption induces swelling at the time of coal exposure to the gas. The increase of injection of gas
will cause the decline in permeability is belongs to the fracture spacing is not completely closed and
the movement of gas cause swelling. However, the closure of fractures, a flow with increase
permeability at higher injection pressure occurs at the highest confining pressure.. This is because the
opening of fracture by increases the fracture apertures and this can enable easier flow (The University
of Alabama. College of Continuing Studies, College of engineering, 2004).
Evaluation
The information is relatively accurate, as there will be always variables about the geological
conditions. For instance, the selected sample area is Jharia, the results obtained are respected to a
certain area, but it is different to the whole area of Jharia. In the meantime, the detail of geological
information is necessary for the testing, but there are only limited investigations are available for the

The Unites States Education Reform
The Unites States Education Reform
The United States Board of Education fosters the mission statement to, promote student achievement
and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal
access (U.S. Department of Education). The United States currently uses standardized test to serve as
a knowledge check point. The system then compares the test results to develop a black and white
curriculum for all students, failing to include aspects of different learning techniques. The
standardized results provided excellent information about students ability to comprehend a statement
and regurgitate an answer by filling in A, B, or C. The tests fail to promote creativity and diverse

As stated in the Atlantis, one of America s leading political magazines, Finland s success is especially
intriguing because Finnish schools assign less homework and engage children in more creative play
(Partanen). So how is Finland consistently turning in some of the highest test results? Could the
United State s k 12 education ever adapt to reform its system to reflect Finland s suggests? To improve
the United States current education, schools need to find an alternative to standardized tests and make
classrooms more interactive. The curriculum needs to be focused on students futures to prepare them
for the 21st century, not the past.
Prince EA, a motivational filmmaker, poet, and speaker, made a YouTube video about the United
States education system, he opens with a quote from Albert Einstein that states, Everybody is a genius.
But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
To put this into perspective, standardized tests represent the tree and students represent the fish. Most
students don t process information in the same way. In Fact, it s widely accepted that different

Drug Resistance And Its Effect On The Clinical Benefit Of...
Drug resistance has become an obstacle in maximizing the clinical benefit of ART and consequently,
routine HIV genotyping is recommended prior to ART initiation during viral rebounds and on the
failure of an ART regimen. Successful PCR amplification of PR and RT genes is essential regardless
of which method is used for sequencing. Results from this study show that not only it is possible to
detect but also to characterize virus that continues to be produced in low levels in such patients. The
samples with LLV were amplified to determine whether LLV present in patients on effective ART
regimen resulted from the development of drug resistance. Out of the 31 samples that were amplified
using the optimized protocol, seven had no product by the time library preparation was set up. The
likelihood of the loss of PCR products during clean up exists. There is a high possibility of
mishandling the sample during shipping and receiving of the samples. Instead of screw cap tubes, the
samples were shipped on a 96 well plate with a film on top, which is not ideal as per protocol.
Additionally, the ice packs had melted by the time the lab received samples for sequencing. Since
DNA does not evaporate easily, lack of proper shipping and storage techniques could have led to
samples spilling or possible degradation.
Many samples had failed quality control step for library preparation via Nextera kit prior to Miseq
Sequencing. Samples mainly had low concentration or less quantity of DNA

Jfk Camelot Significance
The Coming Of Camelot
You may be wondering what Camelot means or why it is related to John F. Kennedy s presidency.
Camelot has many ties to ancient times and to John F. Kennedy s presidency. One thing that you may
find quite interesting was the fact that the president s wife came up with it. The term means a seat at
the round table with the Knights and Kings. The term Camelot has now come to mean idyllic peace.
Camelot has many meanings and ways it was used throughout John F Kennedy s presidency and his
legacy he left after he was assassinated in November of 1963.

Many scholars believe Camelot to be a mythical place. This is because they haven t found much
evidence that it ever existed. Although we have not proved its existence we do know a lot about what
it was made up to be. King Arthur used the city of camelot to hold his court. The site of camelot also
held his famous round table. Many people seemed to call Camelot one of the richest Saracen cities.
During Kennedy s presidency he started an American Camelot. This is really interesting because
during JFK s time there was a lot going on with the Civil Rights Movement and Fair treatment of
African Americans. John F. Kennedy stood for those things even though he was highly conflicted
being the he was a white advocate for the freedom of all races. Maybe he wasn t trying to be known
for what he tried to implement but his wife made sure his legacy was preserved. She was already

Toxic Masculinity In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Toxic masculinity. It is a hidden concept that not many men know of yet many men have internalized.
It is a socially constructed attitude that describes the male gender as violent, unemotional, dominant,
and sexually aggressive. Culturally accepted ideas of manliness lead men to believe that to be a man
one must display these horrible attributes. John Steinbeck s novel Of Mice and Men follows the
dynamic duo that is George Milton and Lennie Small as they face the Great Depression and a new job.
In his novel, Steinbeck seems to represent the idea of toxic masculinity through not only the ranch
workers but George and Lennie themselves. Steinbeck shows that male stereotypes and false ideas of
manhood not only exist in present day but were also present during the 1930 s. Through Steinbeck s
depiction of certain men as aggressive and strong, he proves that toxic masculinity, gender roles, and
the patriarchy can affect men negatively much more than they affect women. It is known fact that
extreme gender roles can be psychologically harmful and Steinbeck s character Curley is a testament
to this. Society in the novel believed that men are supposed to be strong and tall however Curley is
none of these. He feels so pressured by society to look and act a certain way and so he resents men
who are taller and is always trying to fight people who he does not match up to. The patriarchal
system led Curley to feel the need to display his dominance and resort to violence. Candy describes

proclamation, written and passed by Abraham Lincoln, gave motivation towards the slaves and black
people to move north and fight for the Union. The Massachusetts 54th regiment became the first
regiment to employ black soldiers and give them a chance to fight for an opportunity at becoming
citizens of the United States. The true determination shown by the soldiers in the movie is really what
the directors and writers were trying to convey to the audiences ... Show more content on

Surprisingly that just simply is not the case. Most of the men that joined, volunteered as free men from
the North. Most of these men have been dealing with stereotypes and slavery all their lives, and now
because of Abraham Lincoln, these men believe they have a something to fight for. The reason many
men volunteered was because of Lincoln s words and actions, it rallied the men in such a way that
motivated others to contribute to the cause of ending the war, white or black. Throughout the whole
movie, the men kept having doubts about their orders. They had to burn a village down to the ground,
watch one of their fellow men be flogged in front of them, and other things that did not help keep up
morale. Like I described earlier, the Civil War era was something Americans have not experienced, it
was total war. Regardless the regiment stuck together and kept training until their first battle. Up unto
this point, they have not had the chance to fight, they ve mainly been working on labor and building
projects. The men feeling uneasy, want to fight and they are tired of not getting the opportunity to
show themselves. Finally they get assigned to join the front in South Carolina. During the first battle,
Shaw is injured, but saves the man that saved him earlier in the movie and earns the respect of his
men. This scene/battle arguably was the motivation that would bring demise to the 54th

Ebenezer Denny states in his journal that the weather was fairly well and the road conditions were
better than they could be.Ebenezer Denny describes these men by saying , They are chiefly all light
infantry, dressed in frocks and over alls of linen. At first they were kind of at a stand off with the
british which made the general anxious of what would come next, Near Bacon s Bridge the British
turned upon us; our advance pressed them too close. The army was formed for a fight they did not

Slumdog Millionaire Analysis
Slumdog Millionaire is a film that shows many issues surrounding social issues in the film, important
topics like poverty, abuse, and Child labor all are so important and problems that happens around the
world which makes it a social issue. Child Labor is one of them that happens a lot in the film Slumdog
Millionaire. As a viewer, I watched as the film starts on showing awful living conditions that these
families live in with their children and see how the living style is there, children playing in the water
that their moms clean water. This explains that families are struggling to provide for their children,
meaning that it s hard for the children to get a meal which then they decide to escape because of
horrible living conditions and social government s like the police forcing young innocent children
wandering in the streets looking for a place to sleep and food to eat. This is an example in the film
when Maman a character in the film takes children from the slums pretending to be this good person
and tries to take care of these children by giving them a place to sleep and food to eat, everything is
good while the children had trust Maman everything went well until. He started to use them, he used
his charm and tricks them into working for him. He would pick certain children and would ask them to
sing, then he would blind them, lucky Jamel one of the main character in the film is helped and saved
by his brother who helped Maman with his work. It very sad in the film how happy these kids are
playing in the streets with on shoes or even their own clothes they wear. If you lived in the slums there
no way to get out in one of the scene Jamel walks around the city and bumps into an old friend who
was unfortunately blinded by Maman he is still in the slums hopelessly begging in the streets still
singing. While the boy remembers Jamel, and can feel his presents, he told Jamel that he was lucky to
escape this whole mess, Jamel felt bad and gave him an American one hundred dollar bill. Meaning
that it happens all over the world, Child labor is a huge social issue that happens and continues to
happen. Child Labor affects the living and health of children for instead lack of education where in the
movie we see Jamel

Essay about The Divided Self Commentary
The Divided Self by R. D. Laing Commentary In The Divided Self , Laing examines schizoid and
schizophrenic people and attempts to make their situation more understandable in existential terms. In
order to understand Laing s work, a person must first understand the concept of existential
phenomenology, in which a person is characterized by his way of being in the world. It involves the
way he reacts to his environment and himself as a part of his world. It must also be mentioned that a
person can not interact with the world, without having relatedness to others in the world. Part One
Laing begins by stating that a schizoid is one that is divided into different parts, between himself and
his world, and within his own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The psychiatrist s personal opinions regarding the patient are not important, and so therefore it s best
that a professional manner when dealing with patients is taken. Looking at an example of one of
Kraepelin s patients who was showing signs of catatonic excitement, we come back to the picture of
the vase or two faces. Depending on which way this behaviour is viewed; it is possible to see that
either this was simply another sign of his disease, or that he wanted to confirm his own existence,
rather than being treated and tested as an object. It is impossible not to impose out own interpretations
of the patient s actions, no matter if one tries to be more objective, to see more signs of disease, or to
view his actions as a movement of muscles. Once the psychiatrist has developed a relationship with
the patient, it is impossible to be entirely neutral. The way the patient and his actions are interpreted is
a key component. Clinical psychiatry can be compared to the analysis of ancient documents, in the
sense that instead of formally analyzing the structure, style and other linguistic traits, the patient s
speech and behaviour is closely scrutinized. By knowing the patient s history, as with early
documents, it may be easier to understand the patient s position, and therefore allow the psychiatrist

Nursing Competency Report
It has been a full week of the project being implemented. The issue that I have notice was the wrong
timing of the competency. It was issued together with many other hospital MCstrategies that made the
nurses overwhelmed. As the Jersey City Medical Center is now part of Barnabas Health a lot of
changes and updates are happening including educating all the staff with the new policies and
procedures, introducing new strategies to improve patient safety and satisfaction, and refreshing staff s
knowledge about skills. I spoke to the participants regarding the status of their competency, one nurse
told me that I will finish it by the set date; I am up to date with my MCstrategies . Another nurse told
me that she was doing the competency according to the due date and so far there are five more before
the Leadership Lessons. Three of the day shift new nurses informed me that they are doing their re
issued MCstrategies first because they already know the answers. Among six nurses only one night
nurse started the lesson as per our last conversation. Checklist wise, it is going as I expected most of
the nurses are currently halfway. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I briefly met with the nurse educator the other day before she started her morning rounds on the other
unit. According to her all the required competencies in MCstrategies for my project were all in and all
6 nurses passed the evaluation in every lesson. I was so happy hearing the news. Now the last one left
is the evaluation of the project.

Beer In The Passage Analysis
The quotation above portrays beer as a drink that is considered by egyptians and mesopotamians as a
holy drink that should be given to every civilian who knows about its existence. This passage in the
book truly shines light on one of the most important drinks since the beginning of humanity. Beer was
one of the first drinks that was made in such a way that it was always safe to drink and not only that
but it also gave the mesopotamians their true identity and culture. Along with providing a safe method
for consuming liquid beer gave way to the early migrations, farming, and the development of river
valley societies.
The excerpt explains that the fertile crescent one of the earliest areas to introduce agriculture, trade
and urbanization to the world. It is especially known as the birthplace of beer ... Show more content

Tea was such an immense resource in Europe that even mere peasants were able to afford at least two
glasses of the decadent drink. In the long run, the empire was able to use its enormous economic
power that it gained from the British East India Company to take control of the global tea market. And
in conjunction with the West Indies the British were able to buy tea and sugar from both ends of the
world and still have a cheaper drink than beer.
The quote above refers to the great power of the British region and its great might to achieve anything
that it wishes from new technology to the complete takeover of countries such as India and America.
The British global superpower considered tea as part of its culture as it was considered the favorite
drink by many Britain s including soldiers who were also given tea when on active duty. As an
uncontested super force Britain was able to spread its tea culture around the world and some of its

The Cultural Challenges Of Doing Business Overseas Essays
The Cultural Challenges of Doing Business Overseas
The fall of the Soviet Union in 1989 and the Velvet Revolution ended Czechoslovakia turbulent
political history, and establishing democracy. The Czech Republic is embracing the western style
models of political and economic reform. In addition the Czech Republic made an agreement and is
now a member of the European Union. This will increase their potential for expanding markets and
creating an ideal environment for foreign trade and business investment opportunities (kwintessential,
2008).

When doing business in Czech, realize that in the month of August almost all business are closed
(small town/cities). Business conducted in Czech is a slow process before decisions are made,
meetings are held to build cohesion and to establish a comfortable environment to conduct business
with clients (kwintessential, 2008). The structure and hierarchy in Czech companies is leadership and
authority is a vertical ladder. Within the Czech business a leader s knowledge and ability to show
power is worthy of respect. Czech places a high value on privacy and prefers to separate business
from their personal life (commuicaid, 2007). Czech has a low tolerance for unstructured situations;
they adhere to rules and regulations to reduce any uncertainty, which extends the business sense to a
practical approach. Based on the Hofstede graph on four dimensions of culture (see Table 1), the
United States and Czech scored closely in the Power Distant Index (PDI) dimension. The second
dimension is the Individualism (IDV) dimension, which the United States has a higher score compared
to Czech. The third dimension is Masculinity (MAS) where Czech scored lower than the United States
and the fourth dimension is Uncertainty Avoidance (VAI) where Czech scored increasingly higher
than the United States (kwintessential, 2008).
International Business Risk These cultural differences can cause a major risk besides language and
education barriers. Conducting business

Key Club Candidate
What makes me a qualified candidate is that I am hard working, persistent, and passionate about what
I do. If I start something, I will not stop until it is complete, and done to the best of my abilities. Not
only am I passionate about Key Club, I consider myself a very outgoing and caring person, and not
afraid to help motivate more reserved or hesitant members to join in on events, and overall become
more comfortable around the officers, and their fellow Key clubbers. When I first joined Key Club, I
was hesitant to do any events because I had no friends that were interested in doing them with me. As
a result of my shyness, I missed out on a lot of great events my freshmen year, and I do not want
anyone else to feel that they can not fit in, or feel like they re going to be left out. I plan on taking A.P
Calculus AB,and A.P psychology my junior year. The rest of my classes are pretty standard, Spanish 3,
English 3, Physics, and U.S history. At the moment, I do not intend to do any other extracurricular
activities other than Key Club next year. I want to mainly focus on Key Club due to it being

events that show more different cultures, and sides of our community, will help our Key Clubbers feel

The Bank Of Japan ( Boj )
1. TheBank of Japan
1.1. History, structure and function The Bank of Japan (BOJ) was founded in June, 1882 and started to
operate in October of the same year. The BOJ s top decision making body is called the Policy Board ,
which decides its operations and sets up guidelines as to the monetary policy. The Policy Board is
composed of nine members; a governor, two deputy governors and six executive directors. The
majority rule applies to the board decision making. As for the process of appointments of the Policy
Board members, the Cabinet first appoints them, and then it has to have the Diet approve the
appointment ( Organization ). As the central bank of Japan, the BOJ broadly has two objectives, that
is, stabilizing prices and the financial system. The price stability is set to be two percent in terms of
the annual rate of change in the consumer price index ( Price stability ). Regarding the relation with
the government, the Bank of Japan Act was fixed in 1997 and made clear the independence of the BOJ
from the government. The Act bans the Cabinet from firing the board members in the middle of their
terms.
1.2 Response to the 2008 financial crisis
The BOJ took a series of monetary policies responding to the 2008 financial crisis. However,
compared to the responses of the FRB and the ECB, that of the BOJ was relatively reserved. This was
partly because the interest rate in Japan was already low enough when the crisis took place and
because the Japanese

Nietzsche Influence
Srivaishnav Gandhe Dr.Bird English 453.6 30 Nov. 2017 Thesis Nietzsche and his Influence on the
Modern Western World Nietzsche is an atheist, a life affirming nihilist, an extreme pessimist, a
trickster, a gleefully defiant irreverent rebel and a sick hero , my father said when I asked, What does
Nietzsche mean to you. My father was one of the many people who hated Nietzsche. And maybe he is
right in his own perspective because, What do we do when someone questions our existence?. What
do we do when someone says God is dead?. What do we do when someone comes and shakes the
foundations of our beliefs?. But most of all the question is what do we do when someone questions
everything we believe in?. I wouldn t say Nietzsche is telling the truth, because even he doesn t
believe in the concept of truth. To put it in his words To tell the truth is to lie according to a fixed
convention. So, to me Nietzsche is a not a man who tells you whether your beliefs are true or false, but
challenges you whether your belief about your beliefs are soundly premised. He upends your universe,
so that you can reharmonize it over, on your own terms. Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was born on
October 15,1844, the son of Karl Ludwig and Franziska Nietzsche. When young Friedrich was about
five years old he lost his father. Then soon after that he lost his brother. These events left young
Friedrich the only male in the family that included his mother, sister, paternal grandmother and an
aunt. Upon the loss of Karl Ludwig, the family moved to Naumburg, Saxony. Friedrich gained
admittance to the prestigious Schulpforta, where he received Prussia s finest education in Humanities,
Theology, and Classical Languages. In addition, Nietzsche played piano and composed music. In
1864, Nietzsche entered the University of Bonn, spending the better part of that first year
unproductively, joining a fraternity and socializing with old and new acquaintances. By this time he
had also given up Theology, dashing his mother s hopes of a career in the ministry for him. Instead he
choose the study of classical languages and a career in Philology. In 1865, he followed his major
professor, Friedrich Ritschl, from Bonn to the University of Leipzig and

Personal Growth Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
Personal Growth in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath uses this quote in The Bell Jar to show the
main character Esther Greenwood struggles. The quote states as followed, There is something
demoralizing about watching two people get more and more crazy about each other, especially when
you are the only extra person in the room. It s like watching Paris from an express caboose heading in
the opposite direction every second the city gets smaller and smaller, only you feel it s really you
getting smaller and smaller and lonelier and lonelier, rushing away from all those lights and
excitement at about a million miles an hour (Plath 110). Plath uses this quote to encapsulate the true
feelings of the main character and her struggles with social conformity. It is obvious that Esther
Greenwood is directly inspired by Plath herself. The many similarities include their pseudonyms, the
absence of a father, their young age, and their high level of intelligence. The only major difference is
Esther s suicide attempt was fortunately unsuccessful while Sylvia Plath s was unfortunately
successful. Plath committed suicide at the age of thirty due to her major struggles of conforming to
society. Sylvia Plath In The Bell Jar, the author, Sylvia Plath, uses metaphors, symbolism, and tone to
draw attention to the main characters journey through mental illness and her struggle to relate to the
feminist expectations of society.

Eveline feels like Harry had already left them, but also felt guilty, because despite his abandonment,

18. Eveline displays animal like characteristics while in the quay. When time came to board, she
gripped the rails and lost all recognition of Frank. She set her white face to him, passive, like a

holds.
19. Eveline became impersonal to Frank because in her moment of terror, she realizes that she does
not know him. He was drawing her into them: he would drown her, (6).
I do not believe that Eveline made the right decision by abandoning Frank and staying with her family.
The promise to her mother was unfair, because she then felt obligated to stay in an abusive household.
While the guilt she felt of abandoning her younger siblings is valid, it is time for her to leave the
shelter of the known and start her own life. While her future with Frank was uncertain, it provided an

  • 2. History of Chinese Students Studying Abroad or in the U.S. Introduction: history of Chinese students studying abroad in U.S. The history of Chinese students studying in American universities dates back to the mid 1850s, when the first student, Yung Wing, graduated from Yale University in 1854 (Bartlett and Fischer Para. 8). After that. Qin Dynasty starts sending Chinese students to learned new sciences and technologies and we called Westernization Movement . The educational missions to the US were organized in the 1870s to train specialists who would create better engines and iron hulls for Chinese ships (Bartlett and Fischer Para. 8). The 1870s mission involved about 120 students, who were sponsored to study at the United States top universities. Since the 1870s, the number of Chinese students in American colleges has grown exponentially to become the largest population of foreign students in the US (Institute of International Education [IIE] 7). After the Qing court s resistance to reform and by China s weakness, Sun Yat Sen led a revolutionary military uprising. During the regime changing time, people really didn t know what democracy is. Therefore, more and more students chose to study abroad to learn about the western political system. Chinese students travel to the US to pursue a degree in Western colleges, which they consider to be among the best learning institutions in the world. • 4. Personal Narrative Essay On Freedom Rides It was just another Sunday morning. There were birds chirping, sun shining, people driving fords and Chevrolet s up and down the streets. When I got out of bed and went downstairs I saw that my family had already started breakfast and were all still at the table and talking faintly about something very quietly. My mother noticed me walk into the kitchen and told me that the rest of the family had just finished breakfast and that I could pull up a T.V. tray and watch Sing Along With Mitch with my older brother and sister and that she would make me some Flapjacks and be there in a flash. So I went into the den and my brother and sister were there talking and greeted me. And as we continued on we turned on the TV and saw a public service announcement saying With the cooperation of the cops, on May 15, 1961, a mob containing more than 100 members of the KKK ambush the Freedom Riders in Anniston AL, attacking the Greyhound bus, smashing windows, slashing tires. The bus tried to flee the scene, but the attackers gave chase, halting the bus on the outskirts of town, and then setting it on fire with Molotov s. The mob traps the Freedom Rides on the other side of the doors shut to burn the Riders alive. Luckily, The Alabama Highway Patrol has an undercover cop on board and He pulls his gun to force the KKK back, and people suddenly tumble off the bus barely escaping with their lives just before the gas tanks explode. SNCC student Hank Thomas was beaten with a baseball bat in the head while other Freedom Riders are assaulted. However, a few changes were made to enhance the appearance of the coins, banknotes and cards as can be seen in the following images: 10 coin The 10 creds coin changed its colour from yellow to blue in order to have a colour palette in concordance with the rest of the currency elements. 100 creds front side 1000 creds front side In the 100 note, the colour of the central graphics, the kite and the clouds, was changed to remove the excessive contrast with the rest of the components. Therefore, I made the decision of splitting the story into two posters that could work as part of the same marketing campaign whose main goal is to show the deep contrasts between life in COIN and life on the surface. The first motion poster is focused on scenes 1 and 2 of the storyboard. In scene 1, the dome that covers an atomic reactor crashes and the radiation spreads rapidly. The dome rotates as a way of transitioning to the next scene where the audience, in contrast, can appreciate the magnificence of a whale swimming near one of the underwater settlements while shinning sunbeams are filtered through the sea surface. The main goal of this piece is, therefore, to show the deterioration of the environment and the danger of radiation on the surface in opposition to the peaceful life in the Oceanic cities where nature is still a top priority. The second poster is a combination of scenes 3, 4, 5 and 6. In the first part, we can see a dark tunnel with graffities on its walls and the wheel of a bike with a U lock on the bottom right corner. Suddenly, the streetlight starts to flicker and a threatening shadow is reflected on the right side of the screen. The tunnel, which has the same dome shape that appeared in the previous motion poster, rotates once again to show the following sequence. As Brodsky notes: Imagine walking into a library or bookstore and needing three or four pairs of different glasses to read different books manufactured to specific viewing equipment. Or buying a book and then having to arbitrarily destroy it after say, two weeks. That s just nuts. But it s the current situation we re in with eBooks. By this, he is referring to the fact that Amazon, Google and so on, have their e book stores where they sell goods which works on certain devices. This is mainly attributed to the fact that food products continue to be essential to consumers in spite of the slowdown. In 2008, the S P 500 declined 37.6 percent against a fall of 22.9 percent by the Dow Jones US Food and Beverage Index. (IMAP, 2010). Second, people are becoming more health conscious and are now demanding nutritious products in which Nestle has the capability to produce. Company s response to these major opportunities is superior. Pragmatics target is to bring speech to its context in order to understand correctly; as basically in the communication through language there is a way more than what is said. Pragmatics cannot by any means be explained without comparing it to semantics. Semantics is known as the study of literal meaning, on the other hand, pragmatics is the study of non uttered meaning intended by a speaker (writer). Present day, the word propaganda gets a bad reputation, and many consider it a form of manipulation that doesn t belong in art, however, it is of my belief that, seeing as all art contains a message that it wishes to convey to its audience, all art is, in some form, political or supports some school of thought or ideology. For clarity, I will define my use of the word propaganda to mean the dissemination of information in favor of an ideology or cause, for the means of garnering sympathy towards the cause and validating the emotions of sympathizers. Essay about The Media During the Tiananmen Square Protests The Media During the Tiananmen Square Protests There will always be talk about the biases of the media and the perspective in which it takes when reporting the news; however, when the news is run by the government and the people who write the news are threatened to withdraw from their positions because they will not write propaganda, it becomes a serious issue that can lead a country into turmoil. Such was the situation in Beijing, the capital of China, in 1989, during the student and worker protests at Tiananmen Square and the ultimate killings that occurred on June 4th of that year. • 14. Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness Essay Comparing Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness In the opening scenes of the documentary film Hearts of Darkness A Filmmaker s Apocalypse, Eleanor Coppola describes her husband Francis s film, Apocalypse Now, as being loosely based on Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Indeed, loosely is the word; the period, setting, and circumstances of the film are totally different from those of the novella. Yet, a close analysis of character, plot, and theme in each respective work reveals that Conrad s classic story of savagery and madness is present in its cinematic reworking. The idea of company man turned savage, of a brilliant and successful team player, being groomed by the Company for greater things, suddenly gone native, is perfectly realized in both novella and film. In the film, Kurtz is portrayed by Marlon Brando, the father of American method actors, who lends weight (both physically and dramatically) to the figure of the megalomaniacal Kurtz. Brando s massive girth is all the more ironic for those familiar with Heart of Darkness who recall Conrad s description: I could see the cage of his ribs all astir, the bones of his arms waving. It was as though an animated image of death carved out of old ivory had been shaking its hand with menaces at a motionless crowd of men... (Conrad, p.135). One could speculate that Coppola s Kurtz is a graphic analogy of the bloated American war machine dominating and perverting the innocent montegnards of Cambodia; however, after viewing Eleanor Coppola s documentary, one finds that the casting was more based on a combination of Coppola s wanting to work with Brando (remember The Godfather ) and Brando s own weight problem. (It should also be noted that the cult like following of Kurtz in Heart of Darkness is brilliantly and subtly updated by Coppola in a foreshadowing scene in which missives to Willard from headquarters are intercut with scenes of newspaper clippings about Charles Manson.) Introduction In the storage of CO2 in the deep geologic reservoirs for enhancing extraction of coalbed methane area, Vishal et al. argue against the consequences of CO2 injection on the permeability of Indian bituminous coal at different confining and injection pressure. The major approach of the journal is to clarify about when and how would the incensement of injection pressure have impact on the permeability of coalbed methane. The effective stress is proportional to the confining pressure and pore pressure. Results, a trend of exponential decline in permeability with increasing effective stress is observed. During the passage of CO2 through the coal sample, the gas is absorbed, which cause volume deformation. The journal concluded that the reduction in permeability of coal maybe attributes to the role of coal matrix expansion. CO2 gets preferentially adsorbed onto the surface of the coal. At the same time, adsorption induces swelling at the time of coal exposure to the gas. The increase of injection of gas will cause the decline in permeability is belongs to the fracture spacing is not completely closed and the movement of gas cause swelling. However, the closure of fractures, a flow with increase permeability at higher injection pressure occurs at the highest confining pressure.. This is because the opening of fracture by increases the fracture apertures and this can enable easier flow (The University of Alabama. College of Continuing Studies, College of engineering, 2004). Drug resistance has become an obstacle in maximizing the clinical benefit of ART and consequently, routine HIV genotyping is recommended prior to ART initiation during viral rebounds and on the failure of an ART regimen. Successful PCR amplification of PR and RT genes is essential regardless of which method is used for sequencing. Results from this study show that not only it is possible to detect but also to characterize virus that continues to be produced in low levels in such patients. The samples with LLV were amplified to determine whether LLV present in patients on effective ART regimen resulted from the development of drug resistance. Out of the 31 samples that were amplified using the optimized protocol, seven had no product by the time library preparation was set up. The likelihood of the loss of PCR products during clean up exists. There is a high possibility of mishandling the sample during shipping and receiving of the samples. Instead of screw cap tubes, the samples were shipped on a 96 well plate with a film on top, which is not ideal as per protocol. Additionally, the ice packs had melted by the time the lab received samples for sequencing. Since DNA does not evaporate easily, lack of proper shipping and storage techniques could have led to samples spilling or possible degradation. • 22. Toxic Masculinity In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men Toxic masculinity. It is a hidden concept that not many men know of yet many men have internalized. It is a socially constructed attitude that describes the male gender as violent, unemotional, dominant, and sexually aggressive. Culturally accepted ideas of manliness lead men to believe that to be a man one must display these horrible attributes. John Steinbeck s novel Of Mice and Men follows the dynamic duo that is George Milton and Lennie Small as they face the Great Depression and a new job. In his novel, Steinbeck seems to represent the idea of toxic masculinity through not only the ranch workers but George and Lennie themselves. Steinbeck shows that male stereotypes and false ideas of manhood not only exist in present day but were also present during the 1930 s. Through Steinbeck s depiction of certain men as aggressive and strong, he proves that toxic masculinity, gender roles, and the patriarchy can affect men negatively much more than they affect women. It is known fact that extreme gender roles can be psychologically harmful and Steinbeck s character Curley is a testament to this. Society in the novel believed that men are supposed to be strong and tall however Curley is none of these. The reason many men volunteered was because of Lincoln s words and actions, it rallied the men in such a way that motivated others to contribute to the cause of ending the war, white or black. Child Labor is one of them that happens a lot in the film Slumdog Millionaire. As a viewer, I watched as the film starts on showing awful living conditions that these families live in with their children and see how the living style is there, children playing in the water that their moms clean water. This explains that families are struggling to provide for their children, meaning that it s hard for the children to get a meal which then they decide to escape because of horrible living conditions and social government s like the police forcing young innocent children wandering in the streets looking for a place to sleep and food to eat. This is an example in the film when Maman a character in the film takes children from the slums pretending to be this good person and tries to take care of these children by giving them a place to sleep and food to eat, everything is good while the children had trust Maman everything went well until. He started to use them, he used his charm and tricks them into working for him. He would pick certain children and would ask them to sing, then he would blind them, lucky Jamel one of the main character in the film is helped and saved by his brother who helped Maman with his work. Nietzsche Influence Srivaishnav Gandhe Dr.Bird English 453.6 30 Nov. 2017 Thesis Nietzsche and his Influence on the Modern Western World Nietzsche is an atheist, a life affirming nihilist, an extreme pessimist, a trickster, a gleefully defiant irreverent rebel and a sick hero , my father said when I asked, What does Nietzsche mean to you. My father was one of the many people who hated Nietzsche. And maybe he is right in his own perspective because, What do we do when someone questions our existence?. What do we do when someone says God is dead?. What do we do when someone comes and shakes the foundations of our beliefs?. But most of all the question is what do we do when someone questions everything we believe in?. I wouldn t say Nietzsche is telling the truth, because even he doesn t believe in the concept of truth. To put it in his words To tell the truth is to lie according to a fixed convention. So, to me Nietzsche is a not a man who tells you whether your beliefs are true or false, but challenges you whether your belief about your beliefs are soundly premised. He upends your universe, so that you can reharmonize it over, on your own terms. Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was born on October 15,1844, the son of Karl Ludwig and Franziska Nietzsche. When young Friedrich was about five years old he lost his father. Then soon after that he lost his brother. [...] and Harry, who was in the church decorating business, was nearly always down somewhere in the country, (4). 18. Eveline displays animal like characteristics while in the quay. When time came to board, she gripped the rails and lost all recognition of Frank. She set her white face to him, passive, like a helpless animal, (6).
