Jamaican Migration To Canada
When one thinks of Jamaica, often what comes to mind is the famous art of Reggae music as Jamaica
is the place of origin. The purpose of this essay is to outline the history of Jamaican people to Canada,
including musical and cultural influences of Jamaicans to Canada, specifically discussing migration,
cuisine, music, and health care. This essay will show there is more to Jamaican migration beyond
music. Jamaica has a long history as a migration hub, with many Jamaicans having moved for
employment purposes to countries such as Canada According to Statistics Canada, since the late 1960s
Canada has been the number two location for Jamaican migrants with United States being number
one. In 2008, about 123,500 Jamaican migrants were living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As explained by (Rose, 2013), the Canada Health Act of 1984 ensures all Canadian have access to a
publically funded health care system. This means that Canadians who are permanent residents can
access health care under OHIP, meaning the government gets billed. A barrier to health care is
ensuring the care provided is culturally sensitive . Health care providers are not knowledgeable about
a patient s culture; they may suggest options that are not fitting to the patient s morals and beliefs.
Immigrants represent diverse culture which offers both particular issues in the providing of health
care, preventative measures, and early detection of illness. The delivery of health care to Jamaican
migrants who come to Canada with issues related to moving must also include needs associated with
social determinants of health, not just existence of illness with the Jamaican migrant population.
Canadian immigration legislation makes it necessary that all permanent residents, which include
immigrants, have an immigration medical exam8. The immigration medical exam is a mandatory part
of the immigration application process when competed successfully, is valid for 12 months8.
Screening is undertaken to assess possible concern of illness or disease on Canada and to therefore
limit the number of health risks entering the country. The purpose is not to provide clinical prevention
services and it is

The Function Of The Thyroid Gland
Hypothyroidism occurs when there is deficient thyroid hormone secretion by the thyroid gland. It is
also referred to as an underactive thyroid. This paper will discuss the function of the thyroid gland, as
well as the causes, classification, risk factors, clinical features, laboratory values, diagnostic imaging,
and treatment of hypothyroidism.
The thyroid gland is located anteriorly in the lower neck, just inferior to the laryngeal prominence,
which is also referred to as the Adam s apple. It extends from the fifth cervical vertebra to the first
thoracic vertebra. The gland varies in shape, ranging from an H shape to a U shape. It is formed by
two extended lateral lobes connected by a median isthmus.
The thyroid is an endocrine gland which functions to regulate metabolism in the body. Three
hormones are produced: triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and calcitonin. T3 and T4 increase the
basal metabolic rate in the body. These hormones also affect brain development, body temperature,
breathing, cholesterol levels, heart and nervous system functions, menstrual cycles, muscle strength,
skin dryness, and weight (National Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases Information Service, 2013).
Calcitonin maintains calcium levels in the blood.
Thyroid hormones are produced by iodine metabolism. The thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) is
produced by the pituitary gland and releases thyroid hormones into the bloodstream when necessary.
TSH is regulated by the

C-Diff Research Paper
Clostridium Difficile also known as C Diff is a bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract of the
human body. C Diff is a gram positive bacillus, which is spore forming. C Diff is one of the many
superbug that health care workers and hospitals battle. There is a very large push by the Centers for
Disease Control (CDC) to educate on hand hygiene and room decontamination for patients that have
tested positive for C Diff in a health care setting. This is because the spread of the disease is through
the fecal oral route, and with spores being able to live on contaminated surfaces for a long period of
time.
C Diff is an opportunistic infection, it will affect an individual whose flora in the intestines has been
compromised by the treatment of antibiotics for a different infection like pneumonia, MRSA, etc...
Antibiotics do not know what bacterial are good and what is bad. They kill all bacteria. This gives the
C Diff spores the opportunity to then take over the flora in the intestine that are being killed by the
current regiment of antibiotics. C Diff affects the flora of the large intestine ... Show more content on

good nose. C Diff has a very familiar smell that one will remember. For laboratory testing, physicians
will usually order a stool sample be taken. Stool can be tested for the presence of C Diff toxins A and

Veterans Day
Every year since 1919 on November 11th, America celebrates Veterans Day. However, do our people
truly understand the meaning behind putting on that army camouflage uniform. Now, the term hero is
used very loosely and it is losing its meaning throughout the nation. In any case, it is important to
realize the actual reasoning behind why our veterans are America s heroes. This nation will remain the
land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave Elmer Davis. One of the last lines of the
national anthem is one of the most significant and sometimes, America s citizens forget the
understanding and reasoning behind those few couple of words. Some of these veterans of the nation
risk their lives for others and sometimes in the process,

Similarities And Differences Of The Han And Han Dynasty
The Qin and Han
The Qin and the Han are two equally important dynasties that greatly expanded in their reign,
although both the Qin and the Han had its own ideas on expansion. In fifteen years, the Qin Dynasty
united the seven warring states. Emperor Qin s rule resulted in the isolation of China from foreigners
and brought upon strict rules and the removal of freedom. Under Emperor Qin s rule, any action
people took which angered the ruler could result in harsh punishment. Consequently, people were
unhappy and often suffered from poverty. On the other hand, The Han dynasty lasted 426 years and
managed to conquer more land, which gradually expanded and formed what China now is today.
While isolation from the outside world was still present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subsequent to the unification, the laws and punishments were harsh due to the different ruling in each
of the 7 warring states. Qin Shi Huangdi the first emperor of the Qin dynasty was a dictator, thus,
people were discontent. As a result, there were assassination attempts that attributed in his phobia of
death and foreigners were banned from the area. To reduce the chances of a rebellion amongst the
people, books were burnt restricting their knowledge on other philosophies and to silence criticism of
imperial rule, the kings banished or put to death many dissenting Confucian scholars (HELLO). Since
they did not have free will, the citizens were constantly in fear, this held the empire together, instead
of breaking apart into different ruling systems. The Han dynasty also resembles this trait of isolation
as expansion did not start immediately. The dynasty had to establish rules and a proper government to
rule the people. At the start it was quite successful but there were a few disputes and an attempt to
change the royal bloodline. Only when emperor Wudi took throne did expansion move forward. Due
to his persistence, he built up their army and defeated the Huns in spite of previous attempts to avoid
battles with people outside of China. However, militarism was expensive, causing the taxes to rise and
the contentedness of the people to

Life Goals
Goals are important because goals open a path to where a person is going and wants to achieve in life.
Also, goals can help a person to stay focus on things that I want to have in the future. A goal to get an
education is essential in life for it can lead to a prosperous future. To have a secure life after college, I
will need to get a stable job. Being part of a community, I would want to send awareness to the young
adults on doing the right things. The goals I want to achieve are to earn a college degree that I am
happy to have, have a job that will help me get the life that I want, and to help young adults to make
the right decisions.
My primary goal is to earn a degree that I am happy to have. The degree that I would want to have is
bachelor s in computer science because ever since I was a kid, I have always admired computers.
Growing up I have been more attached to computers, and I am inspired to know more about
computers such as how to solve technical problems or create applications for better efficiency.

A degree in computer science would make me happy because I have always loved computers. A job
that can grant me the things that I want and need. Being able to help young adults make the right
decisions are just as important because it can lead to a brighter future. Knowing what I want to
achieve gives me assurance in life, but I can only accomplish it if I work hard for it. Goals are a path
to accomplishing dreams that person desires to have. I believe that anyone can achieve their goals by
being positive through good or bad times, sacrificing something for better future, changing is also a
part of reaching a person s dream. Goals are a reminder to everyone on what they must

The society we all live in today is unforgiving and vicious when it comes to opinions on a person.
Labeling a person an addict has a negative connotation and in a result negatively affects the mental
status of any person who is battling with addiction. Mr. Leshner once again enlightens us by stating
that society already has preconceived notions on what type of person an addict really is. Which are
that addicts are simply too weak willed to stop. (Leshner, Addiction... ). When someone is told
negative things about oneself, she will eventually believe in the false words spoken. Our society is
always chastising addicts and saying how they are blemishes in our world. This is an unforgivable
wrong, instead of persecuting addicts and making them believe that they can never get clean or that
they are too weak to get clean is wrong. We, as a society, need to offer them a safe haven. A person
who is in, what they feel, a safe, comfortable, and relaxing environment will not go and look for
drugs. An individual in a stressful, unsafe, and chaotic situation; where one feels out of control, is
when a person looks for relief in any form, even drugs. Kevin McCauley, a nationally recognized
author and speaker on the subject of addiction medicine, indicated in an article that the amount of
stress an individual endures in their environment is a primary cause to drug abuse (McCauley). When

Demonstrators and protesters vary from religious, environmental, social, civil, and political rights
groups. They use the Olympic games to get their message or beliefs across to a larger viewing public.
Some demonstrations and protests are quite peaceful, while others, are chaotic and often lead to
violence. These individuals can be seen as early as the opening ceremonies and as late as the closing
ceremonies of the Olympics. Many athletes also have demonstrated their support to some of these
groups. Tommie Smith, John Carlos, Cathy Freeman, and Naim Suleymanoglu, just to name a few, are

socks and black leather gloves, raised their fist in the Black power salute as the Star Spangled Banner

Smith concluded that their actions were not of a Black power salute, but an Olympic project for
human rights. He also stated that the Black gloved fists represented African American pride, and their
black socks were a testament to poverty encountered by African Americans during those times
(Boogard, 2000,p. D1). The U.S. organizing committee immediately removed Smith and Carlos from
the track and field team as a result of their protest. Smith and Carlos however took advantage of their
day in the spotlight and made news around the world. They stood for something that is needed to be
corrected, which was racism, and took a stand. Over the years, the tensions of racism slowly decreased
in the U.S., as a result of one of the biggest nationwide protest ever seen. Naim Suleymanoglu, also

Nosferatu And Dracula Film Analysis
In his Great Movies list, Roger Ebert called Nosferatu (1922) the account of Dracula before it was
covered alive in platitudes, jokes, TV dramas, kid s shows and more than 30 different films. The film
is in amazement of its material. It appears to truly have faith in vampires but today some vampire
films are completely different from older films like Nosfesatu and Dracula.
Current vampires are completely unique. The film business utilizes them as centralizations of sex and
gut, a social move as of late characterized by the Twilight films and True Blood (2008) which pushed
a restless, present day picture on an ages old develop. Before vampires turned into a prop everybody
needs to engage in sexual relations with, they were occupants of nightmarish situations established
upon the openings of the human mind. They have turned into the perfect inverse of their source where
Nosferatu s Count Orlok originated from Victorian estimations of sexual suppression and filled in as a
predatorial similitude of sexual peril, present day vampires are the photo of vulgar want wherein
giving one s own particular substance to sustain their inclinations is a demonstration of unequivocal
erotica.
Nosferatu isn t frightfulness in the cutting edge sense. It esteems dreadfulness over alarm, fabricating
an environment of fear instead of sudden snapshots of stun. In the design of German Expressionism,
the film depends on misshaped style, unusual sets and areas, overwhelming cosmetics and

The poem Who s for the game. Essay
The poem Who s for the game.
Who would much rather come back with a crutch, than lie low and be out of the fun?
Throughout the poem Who s for the game , Jessie Pope convinces many soldiers to go to war by
asking questions in every stanza. Who s for the game, the biggest thetas played, the red crashing game
of a fight? , she asks the reader in an excited tone, allowing the soldier to have a very positive effect
on war. Who wants to play in this fight? , as if to say that the idea of war was nothing more than a
boxing game, which was a common sport in the era of world war two.
Most classes (even those who were rich) had more or less of an idea on the rules concerning this
particular sport, and were familiar with it.

The language of Jessie Pope is very informal as it is directed to young men, who in the era of World
war two were very young (aged 16 and over) and uneducated. Who knows it wont be a picnic not

. This use of improper slang language could attract the attention of the young and uneducated man
partially because she shares the same common speech with him making him feel more comfortable
with the poem.
Less able soldiers may raise their heads in marvel to the poem purely due to the continuous tempo.
Use of the word lads , is what a higher figure of authority would call a boy e.g. a mother or father.
This is showing that she has authority and is telling the boys what to do rather than giving them an
option.
Owen, unlike Pope has used simile s to give a more effective description of how the soldiers feel and
look like. Drunk with fatigue, deaf even to the hoots , Owen suggests that as alcohol makes one drunk
and unbalanced on the feet, so does the large amounts of fatigue that the soldiers have received.
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud , Owen uses the word cancer as he feels that there is nothing that
can stop the man from dying, a small glimmer of hope but other than that it seems to be incurable. He
has also used visual and sound effects rather than rhyme. If you could hear at ,every jolt, the blood ,

Medieval Castles the Start of the Modern Age Essay examples
Medieval castles were the start of the modern age. They had forms of government, and everyone had a
specific job. It was, however, still primitive to modern standards, because they still had a King and
Queen and no indoor plumbing. This blend of primitive and modern makes medieval castle life an
interesting and intriguing time to live. A medieval castle usually had five main buildings: The hall, the
kitchen, barracks/living quarters/supply buildings, water rooms, and a chapel. The chapel was the
most influential and sacred place of the entire castle. Usually the chapel would be two stories tall to
separate the royal family from servants. The royal family would be on the second floor while the
servants would be on the ground floor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The royal family would sit astride him on wooden benches. Most halls were arranged much as a
church was with wooden benches facing the king. The tables that everyone would sit around had white
linen cloth on them and the tables could also be easily removed. If the king was especially prestigious
he would have a stationary table that would never move. The hall often had stone or wooden pillars
the supported its wooden roof and if the hall was on the second floor it was supported by stone or
wooden pillars as well. The floor that these pillars supported was almost always wooden or if they
could afford it stone vaulting. The floor was often wooden and covered in rushes and herbs that would
be changed periodically. Carpet was only used on walls and tables until the fourteenth century. The
windows of the hall were often just wooden shutters although some did have tinted glass in later time
periods. The hall was often the most beautiful and decorated place of the castle with the church being
a close second. The kitchen was the main area for food preparation and storage. There were often
chicken coops, pens, and other locations where animals were kept for food nearby the kitchen. There
were many fruit trees and orchards placed closely as well. The kitchen usually consisted of several
fireplaces with a central hearth where food could

Self Management In Nursing
Every year approximately 795,000 people in United States are diagnosed with stroke. Stroke is one of
the leading causes of severe long term disability in the US (American Stroke Association [ASA],
2017). The incidence of stroke is expected to rise due to the age related demographic changes
(Mozaffarian et al., 2015). Integration of self management by healthcare systems into the discharge
teaching and its promotion during rehabilitation period is an important step in the management of long
term condition (Jones et al., 2015). Therefore, the explanation of the meaning of self management and
the availability of the related programs could be a beneficial recourse to the patents being discharged

Benefits Of Pledging To A Sorority Or Fraternity
Most people when they think of college they think of majors, classes, and getting to meet new people
but others look forward to pledging to a sorority or fraternity. Pledging to a sorority or fraternity
means making a life long commitment with people who then become your said brothers and said
sisters, but with pledging comes hazing. Hazing is humiliating and, in most cases, dangerous initiation
rituals, but it is a typical thing that happens when someone pledges. Although hazing is a tradition and
has always been a part of pledging, it shouldn t be part of the process due to multiple cases of death
and the overall attitude towards it.

Abstract:
The objective of this experiment was to observe the transformation occurrence with E.coli and the
ampicillin resistance gene. When plasmids like lux or pUC18 are added in E.coli, they are more likely
to survive in certain environments that contain antibiotics. Plasmid can carry genes enabling bacteria
like E.coli to survive in harsh conditions. This experiment displayed how plasmid work when inserted
in E.coli with and without ampicillin. In certain agar plates, ampicillin was added with either the lux
plasmid or the pUC18 plasmid resulting in colony growth. In other agar plates, no ampicillin was
added when either the lux plasmid or the pUC18 plasmid was added resulting in colony growth. If
growth occurred from the bacteria when it was added in the Ampicillin agar plates, then it was
determined that the E.coli was transformed successfully and is expressing the Ampicillin resistant
genes.
Introduction: The small, circular DNA molecules that exist apart from the chromosomes in most
bacterial species are called plasmids. Plasmids are not needed for the survival of the host bacterial, but
some plasmids can carry genes that makes bacteria ampicillin resistant like pUC18 or

Most Popular Symphonic Orchestra Music In The World
Pre Concert Research Composed by Bohemian composer Antonín Leopold Dvořák (1841 1904) in
1893, Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95: From the New World is one of the most popular
symphonic orchestra music in the world. Including Symphony No. 9, many of his musical works as a

duration time of the music is about forty minutes. Each movement has different characteristic, but I
will focus on the first movement, which is known as Adagio Allegro molto, in this research. Herbert
von Karajan conducted the orchestra I posted on EDpuzzle. In general, music instruments which an
orchestra use for this music are two flutes (2nd doubling piccolo), two oboes and English horn, two
clarinets, two bassoons, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani, triangle, cymbals,
and strings. In the early stage of the movement, loud minor sounds of string and woodwind
instruments created feelings of magnificence and anxiety at the same time. In the midway of the
movement, the orchestra played the combination or alternate of minor and some gentle major
melodies. Therefore, the mood of this music frequently changes: powerful and impressive minor

Sophocles Euripides Antigone
In Sophocles Antigone, and in Euripides Medea, the Greek authors take on the topic of justice. Each
playwright addresses the issue of injustices suffered by women and the concept of natural law. In both
tragedies, the female leads seek justice after natural laws had been broken, but they ultimately break
the natural law themselves, resulting in more injustice.
During Medea s first long speech (lines 212 271), she declares that women are stricken with the most
wretched existence on earth. Within this speech, Euripides draws attention to many of the injustices
women underwent in ancient Athens. He refers particularly to their dependence on marriage and their
absence of a public life. A man, when he gets fed up with the people at home, can go elsewhere to ease
his heart he has friends, companions his own age. We must rely on just one single soul, (lines 247
250). Here Medea point out how all women must rely on their husbands, while their husbands are
allowed to go out and a public life with friends.
A way that it is shown that women are viewed as wicked is through the portrayal of Medea being a
wild woman from a non Greek, land of the barbarian (line 261). Rather than being a Greek citizen,
Medea is compared to the other characters in the play, as being more impulsive and primed to do
something immoral. In the play, Medea isn t just pursuing justice in response to Jason and Creon s
crimes, but is also seeking to correct the injustice of the unequal

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Done
Art is never finished, only abandoned. This is one of Leonardo da Vinci s famous quotes. I personally
find it appealing and memorizing. This is 100% true as well! Nothing in life is ever truly finished!
Leonardo da Vinci was pure genius, however not just from his quotes. He did much, much, more!
Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452. He was born in Vinci Italy. His exact birthplace was in
a farmhouse in the middle of the beautiful hills of Tuscany outside the village of Anchiano in what is
now Italy. Leonardo da Vinci most likely spent most of his time with his uncle, Francesco, instead of
his two unmarried parents. At the age of 15, Leonardo da Vinci became the apprentice of the artist
Andrea del Verrocchio. Andrea del Verrocchio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He studied the field of civil engineering, and created many amazing inventions. His invention of the
parachute was an international breakthrough! He also invented scissors, which also changed the world,
and is nowadays used in almost every classroom and almost every household. Leonardo da Vinci also
sketched up the first helicopter. He may not have built it, but he did imagaine it, and his sketch helped
modern day scientists and engineers build the helicopter. Not only did Leonardo da Vinci sketch the
helicopter, create the parachute, and invent the scissors, but he also built The Revolving Bridge. The
Revolving Bridge was a portable bridge, used over a variety of bodies of water. It was mostly used by
armies to pass over rivers, streams, and small lakes. Leonardo da Vinci originally designed it for Duke
Sforza.
I think that this field of science is something I would like to study because I enjoy both building and
creating, and I adore art. I definitely think that if I ever become a scientist, this would be the field of
science I would enjoy! I spend most of my time drawing and building, much like Leonardo da Vinci
did. And it just so happens that I ve always had an eye for science, and it seems to be my best subject.
I hope that maybe, just maybe, one day, I will be just as good as artist as Leonardo da Vinci. So as I
conclude my essay, I would like to say just one more genius quote by Leonardo da Vinci

The Glass Ceiling And Gender Gap Between Women And Men
Abstract
The business case for gender diversity in senior and executive positions is compelling. Studies show
that companies that have the best records for promoting women outstrip their competition on every
measure of profitability. Yet women disproportionately are failing to attain high level positions.
Reviewing current data on women in the workplace, findings of studies on the relationship between
gender diversity in senior management and company performance, and the literature on gender
behavioral differences and the workplace, this article explores the possible reasons for the persistent
wage and gender gap between women and men in senior leadership positions and discusses possible
remedies (Meyerson, D.E. Fletcher, 2000)
Quote: It s an uphill struggle, to be judged both a good woman and a good leader.

Literature Review
The Glass Ceiling
The glass ceiling was first introduced in the 1980 s. It is a symbol for the past and present barriers that
block women and minorities from progressing up the corporate ladder to management and leadership
positions. The glass ceiling represents a metaphorical barrier preventing women from rising to the
highest organizational levels (Daily Dalton, 1999, p. 4). In recent years there has been remarkable
progress made by women. Many women now hold higher seats on boards, run companies and have
become prominent leaders. However; the truth is women at high levels of leadership is still sporadic.

Stephen King Writing Style
Stephen King s book On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft is both entertaining and instructive; it
describes King s writing process in a compelling way and offers advice towards improving the reader
s own writing process. I believe his writing process is coherent and effective. While reading the book I
thought that he explained techniques well and gave enough evidence to show his methods work. I
found myself stopping several times while reading and thinking something along the lines of Why
didn t I ever realize that? A lot of his writing process seemed so simple after he explained it that I felt
disappointed in myself for not already knowing it. However, I did observe some similarities between
King s writing process and my own. One of these similarities regarded revision. Late in the book King
describes a note he received from the editor of a magazine; it included the formula 2nd Draft = 1st
Draft 10% (King 222) King says that when he revises he naturally adds more while others may
naturally take things out. After receiving this note he began making a conscious effort to remove
material when revising. I always eliminate excess when revising, so in this way our writing processes
are alike. Another resemblance I noticed was that King does not stop working because something is
hard. He says that stopping work because it is difficult is not a good idea, you should continue
working. I definitely already work through any difficulties. I think that while a fresh

Evaluation Of A Backup Plan For The Business Enterprise
If the worst case state of affairs takes place, then there need to be a backup plan that restores the
gadget to its preceding level to minimize the effect to the business enterprise s functionality. Research
has proven that forty three% of companies that have any backup in location never reopen, and that a
catastrophe stage occasion can damage the machine and cost 25% of the sales. Having a sturdy backup

can act as a backup plan for disaster get better. Some of the examples are Cloud again up, reflected

agency each available option should be analyzed to discover the pros and cons of using that method
and the great choice for the organization need to be selected to make sure that it meets the employer s

In my opinion, the satisfactory backup approach for this business enterprise could be photo backup.
Photo backup works by means of taking a picture of the hard force of the computer at a particular
second in time. The duplication takes place through copying disk block while it s far written or by way
of the usage of cut up mirror set of disks. The recovery from backup is achieved in any such way that

The Collection Of Artefacts And Material Culture And Design
VSAR 3017 Indigenous Art, Culture and Design Journal Lecture: August 15, 2014 The collection of
artefacts and material culture of Aboriginal people have not always been understood and referred to as
art. In a way, museums and avid institutions in the nineteenth century have been seen as institutions of
control, ordering and organising knowledge about people and put them inside a particular framework
in order for them to be understood. Images and tools and practices have become important resources
for Aboriginal people to learn about family history, archives that hold links between artists and their
connections to family and form. Christian Thompson, a sound artist and photographer, is exemplary of
this. In 2011, the Australian Research Council funded a project to research and return historical
photographs from four major European collections to indigenous communities in Australia. Christian

The Gulf Of Tonkin Resolution
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was a resolution that stated that the
president could take any and all action necessary in Vietnam. This was spurred by a supposed attack
on a United States gun boat in the Gulf of Tonkin. A point of comparison to the Gulf of Tonkin
Resolution could be the declaration of war following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. On December 7th,
1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) launched a large bombing mission against the ships and the
soldiers at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After this event, the original idea to try and keep the United States
out of World War II was abandoned and the United States began to churn out military equipment and
supplies to combat the Axis powers. In both cases, the seemingly correct thing to do was considered to
be obvious.
Reagan s Tear Down the Wall speech Ronald Reagan s Tear Down the Wall speech commanded
Mikhail Gorbachev to dismantle the Berlin Wall, which divided Berlin between the Capitalist West
and Communist East. A point of comparison that can be drawn between this speech and another is
Booker T. Washington s Alabama Exposition Address. In Washington s speech, he discusses how
African Americans would be dedicated workers alongside whites if whites cast down their buckets to
African Americans to help them to find work. In Washington s mind, allowing African Americans to
have economic prosperity would, in turn, allow them to finally be free. This is similar to the fall of the

Solo Sunny Film Analysis
Konrad Wolf and Wolfgang Kohlhaase s 1980 film Solo Sunny follows Renate Krößner as Ingrid
Sunny Sommner living in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) as a young, struggling pop singer.
On a surface level, the film contains many of the common motifs in East German film with a
dramatic, musical plot that involves a working woman s pursuit of happiness. In actuality, the film
manages to subtly deliver an effective critique of the culture of Eastern Germany s socialist political
society, despite being created under the constant threat of state censorship. The first generation of
GDR punks were not prominent until 1979, significantly late in the development of punk as a whole,

While Sonny s passionate pursuit of a career as a singer is central to the plot of the film, it is evident
that she is not being treated equally to her male counterparts within that field. The male members of
the band Sunny performs with, The Tornadoes, incessantly verbally and even sexually harass her. The
first time a member of the band makes an unwanted towards Sunny, he is not blamed for making her
uncomfortable, rather Sunny is seen as at fault for not appeasing his sexual desires. Later in the film
when the same band member violently attempts to rape Sonny, he is not expelled from the band, but
the ensuing tension between the members contributes to the bands decision to kick out Sunny instead.
Beyond the band itself, the man who introduces them onstage during each of their performances
remarks to the audience that Sunny is an up and coming artist, not the youngest but up and coming.
The jibe highlights the fact that even though she is likely no older than anyone else on stage, the
possibility of her advancing in her career is dwindling as she is in a field in which youth and beauty,
especially amongst women, is highly prized. Each of these incidences points to a flaw into the GDR s
policies on women. Promoting equality of women in the workplace,

Mangroves in Australia Essay
Mangroves in Australia
The mangrove communities of Australia are some of the most highly adaptive plant communities in
the world. These plants live in an environment that is often engulfed with seawater. This environment
is considered an arid environment due to the lack of fresh water. The plants of the mangrove
community must develop several adaptations to deal with the environment. The environment these
plants often inhabit is referred to as an intertidal zone. The intertidal zone is the transition between the
salty ocean to the fresh water of the interior of the continent or island. To deal with the salty
environment, mangrove plants have developed modified roots. In some species, the roots filter the
incoming seawater. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These organisms, in turn, replenish nutrients back to the environment, which feed other animals. It is
apparent that the mangroves are the base of the food chain in this environment.
Introduction
The term mangrove doesn t refer to a single plant species, but to a variety of them that share a
similarity to one another. There are 54 recognized species that belong to 16 different families. A
mangrove is considered to be woody trees or shrubs that flourish in mangals (Hogarth 1999). A
mangal is referred to as an environment such as intertidal zones, muddy areas at river mouths, and
other areas usually inundated (covered) with water. Silt deposits in these areas make it a suitable
environment. Mangroves are considered to inhabit a harsh environment compared to other plants.
Their roots are located in salty, waterlogged, and oxygen lacking soils. These areas are influenced by
tidal action, so the water levels are fluctuating between high and low tides constantly (Talbot, Steene
1990). The mangroves are the most widely distributed environments in Australia. They are mostly
tropical but have been found to survive in air temperatures as low as 5 degrees Celsius. Mangrove
distribution is most closely correlated with sea temperature than air temperature (Hogarth 1999).
Mangroves range from the Gascoyne River and Banbury in Western Australia, across the whole
northern coast, down the east coast to

The Era Of The Safavid Empire Under The Rule Of Shah Ismail
As a political tactic, rulers often portray themselves in a certain way in order to stabilize their reign
and rule more effectively. Some take the approach of uniqueness by setting themselves apart from
their subject population while others take the approach of sameness by emphasizing the similarities in
which they share with the people. Not exclusively limited to apartness or sameness, some rulers have
shown to employ a mix of both ruling styles. It is these versatile rulers who have experienced more
successes in their reign because they are not compelled to only one ruling style, allowing them to
better adapt to the needs of their ruling population. The apartness ruling style is best seen in the
Safavid Empire under the rule of Shah Ismail. Shah Ismail uses religion as a political tool to control
his state and does so by declaring Shi ism, a smaller branch of Islam, as the state religion (#). After
separating himself his people from those who are not willing to abide to his ideologies, Shah Ismail
can now demand the absolute loyalties from his subjects and persecute those who are deviant. This
radical act further creates a deep chasm between Shi ite Muslims and nearby Sunni Muslims
neighbors. As a result, cultural flow and the exchange of beliefs between Sunni Shi ite states are
essentially hindered. Ismail s apartness ruling approach is taken to the extreme with social, religious,
and legal systems being strictly confined to Shi ite doctrines (@). It is noted that

the importance of small businesses and entrepreneurs in developing a successful and self sustaining

limited, it is important that those communities see investment from outside forces to initiate change
and restore hope and optimism. Accordingly, when I learned that the Mayor had secured a
commitment to bring the Wizards and Mystics practice facility and a new arena to serve as home court

commitment to bringing opportunity to our community and a catalyst to bringing new life to our

created jobs and opportunities for small businesses and entrepreneurs and brought hope to those

Ford s Effect On Manufacturing Industry
On July 30, 1863, an industrialist was born, neither him nor anyone for that matter, knew he was to
forever change the world, he was known as Henry Ford (1863 1947). Ford grew up on his parents
farm in Michigan. He loved to work on the farm machinery. He was good at fixing things and could
even repair watches. Although Ford did not invent the automobile but his introduction of the Model T
automobile revolutionized transportation and American industry, his inventions are still marveled in
the modern world today. Henry Ford installed the World s first moving assembly line in December
1913. Ford and the assembly line improved work conditions, revolutionized production and
revolutionized American society.
Ford effect on manufacturing reaches worldwide. Prior to the Industrial Revolution people were
largely self reliant, but the industrial revolution transported increased separation of labor, and this
separation of labor got a specialization, which carried increased productivity. Specialization, however,
decreased self sufficiency and people became gradually dependent on one another. Which was the
process of socialization of labor. Ford was capable of making a reliable and low cost auto because of
his ground breaking, assembly line. The Assembly line is a sequence of workers, machines, and parts
down which an incomplete product passes, each worker performing a procedure, until the product is
assembled (Mass Production). The assembly line was undoubtedly Ford s greatest

to move across the ice do what is called the duck walk . First, bend your knees and point your toes out.
Next, while keeping your toes out, step forward, and push out a little. Then glide between each step.
Once you have picked up some speed, put both feet side by side and glide. Putting your feet side by

Another way to move forward is the swizzles. To do the swizzles there are three steps: the bend, push,

Visual Argumentative Essay On Icy Water
Some images [visual and multimedia] are so iconic that they become part of our cultural memory.
(Pg.326). Take, as an example, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video an ingenious idea, a powerful
visual argument that is spreading ALS awareness nationwide. For the past few weeks, social media
have been shown videos of people pouring icy water on themselves for the ALS Association. If, before
the video, the image of people throwing icy water on themselves was associated with summer games
or with the hot weather now the same image belongs to the ALS Association. And a bucket and icy
water two ordinary images have become ASL iconic symbols. Therefore, as McLuhan says, We shape
our tools and afterwards our tools shape us. (Pg. 327). Is, then, the medium in this case the bucket of
icy water the most important element of a visual argument?
For McLuhan the medium [the bucket, the icy water] is the message [and]...All media works us over

Charles Tilly s State Making
Charles Tilly (1929 2008) is a former sociologist and political scientist who introduced the idea of
state making through state makers in global politics. Charles Tilly argued that state making is the
process by which state makers eliminate other hostile or adverse powerful men within a given
territory. State makers are the power holders in society such as kings or landowners . In Bringing the
State Back (Tilly, Charles. 172) Tilly argues that states are formed through a capricious and
unintentional process by which state makers enforce war in the pursuit of territory, human population
and scarce resources. Tilly says that state makers did not take part in the pivotal and costly tasks of
war making, extraction and capital accumulation with a mind set of ultimately forming a state. Rather,
Tilly argued that the pursuit of resources for war making, capital accumulation and extraction was
required to gain territory, money and human population. Tilly describes capital accumulation as the
process of investing money into warfare in return for future profits or benefits. Lastly, Tilly defines
extraction as acquiring means such as population, money or weaponry to carry out the initial war

Pros And Cons Of Bookkeeping
Why Should You Outsource Your Bookkeeping Matters to The Pros?
In the modern times, bookkeeping has become an increasing need for any and every business no
matter how big or small. There is a reason why many firms spend millions of dollars on a formidable
army of bookkeepers every year. A bookkeeper is one of the few people who can actually make your
business easier. It is no secret that any business faces a number of bookkeeping related problems
almost daily and dealing with these problems is both a mental and an emotional challenge. But still, a
large number of people choose to deal with their books themselves and end up getting in worse messes
every year until they finally realize that there is nothing left to salvage. However, even the worst
scenario can be prevented by investing in a professional bookkeeping service.

Again that tiresome tax! Did you know that there are a lot of taxes that can be refunded? You may be
losing a lot of money to these refundable taxes. Similarly, people can deceive you in the name of
taxes. A good bookkeeping service is important in getting you back your hard earned money and
keeping you free from swindlers and deceivers. Your bookkeeper gives you more time. Imagine
working all day for your business and trying to work as a bookkeeper at night. It is a nightmare. Not
only will you be tired, you will suffer a loss of more than money. Your health will deteriorate and you
still won t get anywhere. A good bookkeeper keeps your schedule free to focus on the business matters
while taking care of your financial matters. A good bookkeeping service keeps you out of jail. Every
business gets an audit and you can be questioned in every little transaction. A bit of too much neglect
can have you declared as a tax thief and you can have legal action taken against you. This results in
heavy fines and even jails. So keep yourself out of jail and at ease by investing in a good bookkeeping

Miss Havisham Quotes
Pip experiences mental violence when he meets Estella and Miss Havisham for the first time. They
were both very mean to him. Miss Havisham was mean to him (and other men), because her heart was
broken once. Her fiancé left her on her wedding day, and she was so heartbroken that she was
determined to never move beyond that. Her broken heart made her grow cruel , and bend on revenge
on all men. Her revenge came in the form of her adoptive daughter Estella. She trained Estella to be a
heartbreaker, so that she could get satisfaction from that. This can be noted in one of the first scenes of
the book, when Miss Havisham talks to Estella. With this boy! Why, he is a common labouring boy! I
thought I overheard Miss Havisham answer only it seemed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

But yes, yes, she would call it so! (Great expectations,1992 ,p.261)Another thing that made her realize
the fact that she had done something bad was the way she saw Pip, she tells him this when they re
talking about Estella. Until you spoke to her the other day, and until I saw in you a looking glass that
showed me what I once felt myself, I did not know what I had done. What have I done! What have I
done! (Great expectations,1992 ,p.338)When Pip left, he got a feeling that something was wrong, so
he went back to check on Miss Havisham. She was on fire when he entered the room, shrieking in
panic and in pain. Pip helped her stamp out the fire, and let her go when the surgeon arrived. Miss
Havisham started repeating four sentences What have I done! When she first came, I meant to save her
from misery like mine. and then Take a pencil and write under my name, I forgive her! . (Great
expectations,1992 ,p.341).Miss Havisham doesn t die immediately after the fire, but she does die
eventually, so her life didn t have a happy ending even though Pip forgave her. Pip finds out that she
died, in a conversation he had with Joe: Is she dead Joe? Why you see, old chap, said Joe, in a tone of
remonstrance, and by way of getting at it by degrees, I wouldn t go so far as to say that, for that s a
deal to say: but she ain t Living, Joe? That s nigher where it is, said Joe; She ain t living. (Great

The Use Of Language In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Throughout many generations, there have been great leaders and infamous leaders that use language to
further their cause. Language is very powerful and the ones who are talented hold deep responsibility.
This power can be extremely positive or extremely detrimental to a society as whole. Dialect between
one another can help others unite, while having the hazard of manipulation, or even brainwashing. A
legendary example of the use of language is Animal Farm, the novel written by George Orwell.
The objective in using language is to bring people together. In Animal Farm, the pigs brought the
animals together to rebel against Jones. In Chapter One, Old Major and the pigs show leadership and
bring forth ideas to overthrow Jones. This is an example of others coming together for a common
good through language. In the middle of this historic novel, the animals finally gain control of the
farm. In chapter three, the pigs had to use language to encourage the other animals to farm for their
peers. Once Animal Farm practically became an empire, the citizens of the farm started their first huge
project: building a windmill. This is another example of how the guidance of good language can help
communities accomplish massive goals.
While language can help a society, it can also be a means for leaders to manipulate their own people.
In Chapter Three of Animal Farm, it becomes apparent that the pigs have advantages over the other
animals. The pigs give clever reasoning to why they

As explained by (Rose, 2013), the Canada Health Act of 1984 ensures all Canadian have access to a publically funded health care system. This means that Canadians who are permanent residents can access health care under OHIP, meaning the government gets billed. A barrier to health care is ensuring the care provided is culturally sensitive . Health care providers are not knowledgeable about a patient s culture; they may suggest options that are not fitting to the patient s morals and beliefs. Immigrants represent diverse culture which offers both particular issues in the providing of health care, preventative measures, and early detection of illness. The delivery of health care to Jamaican migrants who come to Canada with issues related to moving must also include needs associated with social determinants of health, not just existence of illness with the Jamaican migrant population. Canadian immigration legislation makes it necessary that all permanent residents, which include immigrants, have an immigration medical exam8. The immigration medical exam is a mandatory part of the immigration application process when competed successfully, is valid for 12 months8. This paper will discuss the function of the thyroid gland, as well as the causes, classification, risk factors, clinical features, laboratory values, diagnostic imaging, and treatment of hypothyroidism. The thyroid gland is located anteriorly in the lower neck, just inferior to the laryngeal prominence, which is also referred to as the Adam s apple. It extends from the fifth cervical vertebra to the first thoracic vertebra. The gland varies in shape, ranging from an H shape to a U shape. It is formed by two extended lateral lobes connected by a median isthmus. The thyroid is an endocrine gland which functions to regulate metabolism in the body. Three hormones are produced: triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and calcitonin. T3 and T4 increase the basal metabolic rate in the body. These hormones also affect brain development, body temperature, breathing, cholesterol levels, heart and nervous system functions, menstrual cycles, muscle strength, skin dryness, and weight (National Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases Information Service, 2013). Calcitonin maintains calcium levels in the blood. Thyroid hormones are produced by iodine metabolism. C Diff is a gram positive bacillus, which is spore forming. C Diff is one of the many superbug that health care workers and hospitals battle. There is a very large push by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to educate on hand hygiene and room decontamination for patients that have tested positive for C Diff in a health care setting. This is because the spread of the disease is through the fecal oral route, and with spores being able to live on contaminated surfaces for a long period of time. C Diff is an opportunistic infection, it will affect an individual whose flora in the intestines has been compromised by the treatment of antibiotics for a different infection like pneumonia, MRSA, etc... Our society is always chastising addicts and saying how they are blemishes in our world. This is an unforgivable wrong, instead of persecuting addicts and making them believe that they can never get clean or that they are too weak to get clean is wrong. The Transformation Occurrence of Plasmid in Bacterial Growth Cherline Riche ________________________________________________________________________ Panther ID: 5471556 Crystal Garcia, Joselyn Pozo, Tory Jarett Biology I Lab 1010 Lab Section U55 Abstract: The objective of this experiment was to observe the transformation occurrence with E.coli and the ampicillin resistance gene. When plasmids like lux or pUC18 are added in E.coli, they are more likely to survive in certain environments that contain antibiotics. Plasmid can carry genes enabling bacteria like E.coli to survive in harsh conditions. This experiment displayed how plasmid work when inserted in E.coli with and without ampicillin. In certain agar plates, ampicillin was added with either the lux plasmid or the pUC18 plasmid resulting in colony growth. In other agar plates, no ampicillin was added when either the lux plasmid or the pUC18 plasmid was added resulting in colony growth. If growth occurred from the bacteria when it was added in the Ampicillin agar plates, then it was determined that the E.coli was transformed successfully and is expressing the Ampicillin resistant genes. • 20. Sophocles Euripides Antigone In Sophocles Antigone, and in Euripides Medea, the Greek authors take on the topic of justice. Each playwright addresses the issue of injustices suffered by women and the concept of natural law. In both tragedies, the female leads seek justice after natural laws had been broken, but they ultimately break the natural law themselves, resulting in more injustice. During Medea s first long speech (lines 212 271), she declares that women are stricken with the most wretched existence on earth. Within this speech, Euripides draws attention to many of the injustices women underwent in ancient Athens. He refers particularly to their dependence on marriage and their absence of a public life. A man, when he gets fed up with the people at home, can go elsewhere to ease his heart he has friends, companions his own age. We must rely on just one single soul, (lines 247 250). Here Medea point out how all women must rely on their husbands, while their husbands are allowed to go out and a public life with friends. A way that it is shown that women are viewed as wicked is through the portrayal of Medea being a wild woman from a non Greek, land of the barbarian (line 261). Rather than being a Greek citizen, Medea is compared to the other characters in the play, as being more impulsive and primed to do something immoral. In the play, Medea isn t just pursuing justice in response to Jason and Creon s crimes, but is also seeking to correct the injustice of the unequal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The detailed descriptions of Yvain s emotion show the readers that he is not only falling in love with the lady due to her beauty and nobility, but also her gentle behavior and quality. For example, Yvain is totally impressed by this courteous woman when she tears her clothes and mourns for her dead husband sadly. When Yvain notices that the lady is messed up due to the sadness, he can t help wanting to cherish and protect her in the rest of the life. However, he fails to keep his promise to return in one year, so his journey starts, in order to win Laudine s heart again. This is 100% true as well! Nothing in life is ever truly finished! Leonardo da Vinci was pure genius, however not just from his quotes. He did much, much, more! Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452. He was born in Vinci Italy. His exact birthplace was in a farmhouse in the middle of the beautiful hills of Tuscany outside the village of Anchiano in what is now Italy. Leonardo da Vinci most likely spent most of his time with his uncle, Francesco, instead of his two unmarried parents. He studied the field of civil engineering, and created many amazing inventions. His invention of the parachute was an international breakthrough! He also invented scissors, which also changed the world, and is nowadays used in almost every classroom and almost every household. Leonardo da Vinci also sketched up the first helicopter. He may not have built it, but he did imagaine it, and his sketch helped modern day scientists and engineers build the helicopter. Not only did Leonardo da Vinci sketch the helicopter, create the parachute, and invent the scissors, but he also built The Revolving Bridge. The Revolving Bridge was a portable bridge, used over a variety of bodies of water. It was mostly used by armies to pass over rivers, streams, and small lakes. Leonardo da Vinci originally designed it for Duke Sforza. I think that this field of science is something I would like to study because I enjoy both building and creating, and I adore art. • 23. The Glass Ceiling And Gender Gap Between Women And Men Abstract The business case for gender diversity in senior and executive positions is compelling. Studies show that companies that have the best records for promoting women outstrip their competition on every measure of profitability. Yet women disproportionately are failing to attain high level positions. Reviewing current data on women in the workplace, findings of studies on the relationship between gender diversity in senior management and company performance, and the literature on gender behavioral differences and the workplace, this article explores the possible reasons for the persistent wage and gender gap between women and men in senior leadership positions and discusses possible remedies (Meyerson, D.E. Fletcher, 2000) Quote: It s an uphill struggle, to be judged both a good woman and a good leader. Rosabeth Moss Kanter Literature Review The Glass Ceiling The glass ceiling was first introduced in the 1980 s. It is a symbol for the past and present barriers that block women and minorities from progressing up the corporate ladder to management and leadership positions. The glass ceiling represents a metaphorical barrier preventing women from rising to the highest organizational levels (Daily Dalton, 1999, p. 4). In recent years there has been remarkable progress made by women. Many women now hold higher seats on boards, run companies and have become prominent leaders. Stephen King Writing Style Stephen King s book On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft is both entertaining and instructive; it describes King s writing process in a compelling way and offers advice towards improving the reader s own writing process. I believe his writing process is coherent and effective. While reading the book I thought that he explained techniques well and gave enough evidence to show his methods work. I found myself stopping several times while reading and thinking something along the lines of Why didn t I ever realize that? A lot of his writing process seemed so simple after he explained it that I felt disappointed in myself for not already knowing it. However, I did observe some similarities between King s writing process and my own. One of these similarities regarded revision. Late in the book King describes a note he received from the editor of a magazine; it included the formula 2nd Draft = 1st Draft 10% (King 222) King says that when he revises he naturally adds more while others may naturally take things out. After receiving this note he began making a conscious effort to remove material when revising. I always eliminate excess when revising, so in this way our writing processes are alike. Another resemblance I noticed was that King does not stop working because something is hard. He says that stopping work because it is difficult is not a good idea, you should continue working. The first time a member of the band makes an unwanted towards Sunny, he is not blamed for making her uncomfortable, rather Sunny is seen as at fault for not appeasing his sexual desires. Introduction The term mangrove doesn t refer to a single plant species, but to a variety of them that share a similarity to one another. There are 54 recognized species that belong to 16 different families. A mangrove is considered to be woody trees or shrubs that flourish in mangals (Hogarth 1999). A mangal is referred to as an environment such as intertidal zones, muddy areas at river mouths, and other areas usually inundated (covered) with water. Silt deposits in these areas make it a suitable environment. Mangroves are considered to inhabit a harsh environment compared to other plants. Their roots are located in salty, waterlogged, and oxygen lacking soils. These areas are influenced by tidal action, so the water levels are fluctuating between high and low tides constantly (Talbot, Steene 1990). The mangroves are the most widely distributed environments in Australia. They are mostly tropical but have been found to survive in air temperatures as low as 5 degrees Celsius. Mangrove distribution is most closely correlated with sea temperature than air temperature (Hogarth 1999). The Era Of The Safavid Empire Under The Rule Of Shah Ismail As a political tactic, rulers often portray themselves in a certain way in order to stabilize their reign and rule more effectively. Some take the approach of uniqueness by setting themselves apart from their subject population while others take the approach of sameness by emphasizing the similarities in which they share with the people. Not exclusively limited to apartness or sameness, some rulers have shown to employ a mix of both ruling styles. It is these versatile rulers who have experienced more successes in their reign because they are not compelled to only one ruling style, allowing them to better adapt to the needs of their ruling population. • 42. Charles Tilly s State Making Charles Tilly (1929 2008) is a former sociologist and political scientist who introduced the idea of state making through state makers in global politics. Charles Tilly argued that state making is the process by which state makers eliminate other hostile or adverse powerful men within a given territory. State makers are the power holders in society such as kings or landowners . In Bringing the State Back (Tilly, Charles. 172) Tilly argues that states are formed through a capricious and unintentional process by which state makers enforce war in the pursuit of territory, human population and scarce resources. Tilly says that state makers did not take part in the pivotal and costly tasks of war making, extraction and capital accumulation with a mind set of ultimately forming a state. Rather, Tilly argued that the pursuit of resources for war making, capital accumulation and extraction was required to gain territory, money and human population. Tilly describes capital accumulation as the process of investing money into warfare in return for future profits or benefits. Lastly, Tilly defines extraction as acquiring means such as population, money or weaponry to carry out the initial war making process. Modern day rebel militant forces such as ISIS and the Taliban support Tilly s explanation of state making, however ISIS challenges the aspect of unintentional state making, as it ultimately envisages the emergence of a state once the war making is over. • 47. The Use Of Language In Animal Farm, By George Orwell Throughout many generations, there have been great leaders and infamous leaders that use language to further their cause. Dialect between one another can help others unite, while having the hazard of manipulation, or even brainwashing. A legendary example of the use of language is Animal Farm, the novel written by George Orwell. The objective in using language is to bring people together.
