Drug Testing Professions
In many professions, drug testing is the norm. When a company hires an employee, they may be
required to be drug tested (Deschenaux, 2015). Throughout the duration of the employment term,
drug testing may be required, rather this is a surprise test or not. It would be my opinion that drug
testing, for the most part, be used.
In many professions, such as hospital, school, or military settings drug testing is mandatory. After
all would an individual like to know that their doctor, nurse, child s teacher is under the influence
of a drug? I personally would not be happy. While some professions may not need drug testing, it
would be improbable to ban drug testing while still enforcing it for these above fields. For example,
the military performs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Would this be the hospital s fault? Or would it be the individual doctor s fault? Many would say
both, however if the doctor was never required to take a drug test, then both parties should be held
accountable. Drug testing should be used a means to ensure that all those impacted, including those
required to take the test, understand that their primary concern is those individuals they serve.
Even construction workers serve people, they must ensure the work they do is safe for those who
may use whatever is being built. While drug tests may not save lives directly, they have the ability
to have an indirect impact if

Art Criticism Of The Gold Lustreware Bowl By Galileo Chini
A Gold Lustreware Maiolica Bowl by Galileo Chini
(fig.1) Maiolica bowl polychrome gold, grey and bronze colour. Circa 1902 1904.Galileo Chini. L
Arte della Ceramica Fontebuoni, Florence. Museo Galileo Chini, Borgo San lorenzo.
The gold lustreware bowl by Galileo Chini is an object which could seem on first glance devoid
of special significance: just a beautiful decorative object enjoyed at face value. (Fig.1) But in the
seeming void I saw a repository of layered meanings which I attempted to interpret by examining
the artistic cross cultural influences in Florence in the late nineteenth century. And to address the
question of why the Mediaeval Hispano Moresque gold lustreware and the design motifs of the
Gothic Revivalist repertoires were found on this bowl. I examine why Chini became inspired to use
these designs and what they may have meant to him.
In this essay I will examine why there was a taste for lustreware in the Florentine workshops and
how their clients saw themselves reflected by these golden objects. ... Show more content on

The ceramics produced by Galileo Chini show a large repertoire of historical motifs and cross
cultural influences which blended to create a unique creation and distinctly Stile Liberty. From my
own observations of his artistic output I would suggest that Chini did not imitate Renaissance
maiolica to attract a certain erudite clientele, as in the case of the Cantagalli workshop, but
developed his own voice adapting design motifs from the past and projecting them into a new
language which is demonstrably modern

College Football Playoff Case Study
We re two seasons into the College Football Playoff system that supplanted the BCS format and
one thing is certain The Playoff is working.
Yes, No. 1 Clemson and No. 2 Alabama were the last two teams standing this season And yes,
both teams won their semifinal matchups in convincing fashion But let s not forget about last
year s CFP where the No. 4 seed Ohio State Buckeyes had a Cinderella type ending to their season
after taking down No. 1 Alabama, followed by a 22 point victory over the Oregon Ducks in the
College Football Playoff National Championship game.
Television ratings improved significantly in first year of the CFP. According to the Los Angeles
Times, last year s Playoff Championship game s ratings were up 21 percent compared to the 2014
Vizio BCS National Championship game featuring Florida State and Auburn. The inaugural CFP
Championship game was the second most viewed college football championship game in history.
According to Adweek, an estimated 33 million viewers tuned in to last year s CFP National
Championship game between the Buckeyes and Ducks. The most viewed title game distinction
belongs to the 2006 BCS Championship game (35.6 million viewers) between the USC Trojans and
Texas Longhorns. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did American Culture Affect The Changes In The 1920s
The rapid changes in America throughout the 1920s were defined by a multitude of events, people,
and advancements. An increase in immigration brought new values and customs to the United
States, as there were people coming from all over the world. New lines of work, such as big
bureaucratic agencies, changed the workplace, creating an impersonal work culture. Mass media
also affected the changes in the 1920sbecause movies, television, radios, and newspapers allowed
for celebrities and heroes to gain success. These celebrities and heroes affected the lives of
Americans and made major impacts of American society and culture. They gave Americans hope
for their future successes and showed them that anyone can gain success and fame by working hard.

They reformed the American dream . Citizens aspired to become like these celebrities and
succeed in their workplace. The new American dream was to become like the celebrities. Pilot
Slim Lindbergh is an example of the types of celebrities Americans looked up and worked to be.
Lindbergh was celebrated for his accomplishments. ...he returned to a tribute of millions. Le
Bourget and Croydon with their hysterical, unwieldy crowds; Paris, with its Boulevards throngs,
and Washington with its glittering of formality were all but obliterated by the greetings of New
York. (New York World). Sports stars also began to impact culture in the U.S. With the new lines
of work, like big bureaucratic agencies, changing the workplace and creating an impersonal
work culture, sports became important to Americans. People saw sporting events and playing
sports a new form of entertainment. The American classic sport of football was described in the
New York Herald Tribune as ...a great football team brilliantly directed, a team of speed, power,
and team play. The Army has no cause to gloom over its showing. I played a first class football
against more than it could match. . This is an example of how people idolized sports

In Act 3 Scene 2 of Shakespeare s Play Julius Caesar ,...
I have studied Julius Caesar a play written by William Shakespeare. I focused the study on act 3
scene 2 the speeches by Brutus and Antony. I am looking at the persuasive techniques used by the
two speakers and why Antony s speech won over the crowd.
Julius Caesar has been an influential figure in history for 2000 years. Caesar was such a powerful,
heroic leader with his death a devastating civil war ensued.
Julius Caesar is so influential decisions made today in the present day idolise him like Kaiser of
Germany, Tsar of Russia and caesarean births. Julius Caesar s story shows a relationship with
modern day stories of deceit and tragedy with such a twisting and famous plot modern audiences
are still drawn to it.

Antony then tells the crowd that Caesar was not perfect and that he had made many mistakes, The
evil that men do lives after them this is like admitting Brutus is right about that but only that.
He then begins his attacks on Brutus speech; he manages to tackle Brutus points on why Caesar
should die. The first point he attacked was Brutus opinion of Caesar s ambition, Antony argues that
Caesar wasn t ambitious, I thrice presented him with a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse,
This is a reasons that proved Brutus s main point incorrect.
The question Antony asked, Is this ambition? , is an obvious rhetorical question which makes the
crowd really think that what he s saying is obvious he also talks about Brutus being honourable at
the same time, this has an effect of causing the crowd to believe Brutus is lying and maybe
everything he has said may be questionable.
Antony then showed the bloody body of Julius Caesar. Antony identified each slice; and named
the man who did it. He made the gashes seem cowardly and pathetic like an attack from behind.
He shows the cut Brutus made and says how dearly Caesar loved him. This was the most
unkindest cut of all to emphasise that Brutus didn t really like Caesar at all, so Brutus must be
lying. He says most before unkindest but the word unkindest already has most in it represented as

Social Domination In The Toilet
Michael S. Kimmel notes in Masculinity as Homophobia , being a man is equivalent to not being
like women ; the concept of being a man is ultimately obtained by avoiding certain lifestyle choices
and personality traits (Kimmel, 31). In this context, as long as a male does not exhibit homosexual
tendencies, evades participation in female dominated activities, or refrains from displaying
immature emotions such as intense jealousy, a male will ascend society s social hierarchyand attain
various forms of power and dominance. According to the logic outlined, the underlying foundation
of achieving manhood cannot exist without a social hierarchy. In order for a social hierarchy to
exist, there must be a group of people that are subjected to the subordination of a different group of
people who possess abundant dominance and power. Within the play, The Toilet , various African
American men and one Caucasian man, demonstrate a related social phenomenon in which various
men are subjugated to the dominance of two more powerful individuals. The depiction of male
figures in The Toilet ultimately seeks to reveal that men, specifically African Americans, must
purposefully or inadvertently degrade representations that oppose the ideal depiction of a masculine
man. Actions of subjugation in a hegemonic society will ultimately allow leaders to maintain their
dominance and power.
The Toilet opens with a scene that depicts the character Ora, a short, ugly, crude, loud black man as

Dusty Nostalgia Humans can be acknowledged as dependent species whom need to necessarily rely
on other humans to seek happiness in their life. Majority of happiness are originated from the bond
and relationship people make with each other. Values and meanings of relationship cannot certainly
be measured with tangible objects; yet, respect and feelings of love can only be obtained by truly
understanding one another. In a novel, Embers, the author, Sandor Marai, articulates the true
friendship between Konrad and Henrik. The dream, passion, and youth which Konrad and Henrik
shared burned furiously until lust and envy within human nature had devoured the burning flame.

In spite of forty one years and forty three days, Henrik presents himself in front of Konrad as if he
was expecting Konrad s return. Henrik could not have faced Konrad with such confidence, without
trusting Konrad wholeheartedly. Assurance of Konrad s return is what motivated and inspired
Henrik to wait for forty one years and forth three days in his lonely castle. As well as Konrad s
return, solid trust between Henrik and Konrad can be identified during the moment of truth. Even
though Henrik knows everything regarding Konrad s attempt of murdering him and being
unfaithful with Krisztina, he desperately holds onto the faith which he has on Konrad. His calm
and organized emotions and words can be described in the following passage:
All these years I have never doubted that you wanted to kill me, and I ve always pitied you. I
know what you felt so exactly that I could have been standing in your place during that terrible
instant when you were overwhelmed (185).
No matter how much anger Henrik feels toward Konrad, the feelings of hatred and being betrayed
cannot possibly overwhelm the friendship built with absolute trust. Instead of holding grudge
against Konrad, Henrik rather chooses to protect the trust which he and Konrad have built up.
Trust in their friendship has not only kept them heart to heart for forty one years and forty three
days, it also guided Henrik to differentiate the darkness from light of their past. Henrik and Konrad s

MBA633 : Managing Human Resources
1. What figure will Cal Jenson report to Fred Donofrio for the amount that absenteeism cost ONO
last year?
Answer: Using figure 2 5 on page 52 Cal must compute the total employees hours lost due to
absenteeism for the period. ONO lost a total of 539 hours of labor because of absenteeism. Second
Cal must compute the weighted average wage or salary totals to $23.50 an hour for an average
salary of $47,000. Third one must compute the cost of employee benefits for ONO employees is
an additional 33%. Because absent employees are paid Cal must take the compensation lost/hour
/absent employee = wage/salary + benefits. Therefore 1.5/539/11=47,000 + 33% = (2.99 or 3).
Next Cal must compute the compensation lost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should not take an hour and a half to reschedule and fix your day of work. A good manager
should be able to manage running their business without calling in a temp or make sure for a
day that calls for extra people they have extra just in case someone does call out. When I worked
retail I saw this first hand with black Friday. We scheduled everyone that day and if it was to
many people we would send those who wanted to go home early home. Because the money made
on black Friday was almost three or four times higher than a normal day it didn t matter our
employees hours for the day. 3. What recommendations for action could Cal Jenson make to Fred
Donofrio?
Answer: The first recommendation Cal should suggest is lowering the amount of sick days.
Because 12 is 2 ВЅ weeks a year and the average American uses 2.3 percent of scheduled work
time, or an average of 5.5 unscheduled absences per year (F.Cascio, 2013), they could try cutting
paid sick days to 10. If that works and numbers lower then leave it ten for a few years and lower
it even more. Secondly Cal should recommend that Fred pull the reports for the prior year and
see the days that had the highest earnings. Make sure those days you schedule an extra person.
Because employees are salary it doesn t matter if they work 2 hours or 8 for the day. Schedule a
extra person just incase someone calls out and if they are not needed send them home. Between
scheduling an extra person and cutting allotted sick days from 12

Mtv s Global Management Team
Introduction
MTV s global management team has been able to enter markets all around the world. By 2006,
MTVI aired in 179 countries in Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and even Australia
with over 1.5 billion viewers around the world. MTV s vision for expansion into the global market
to supply media to the world s youth had no limitation. In 2007, MTVN planned to enter the Middle
East after several years of planning. MTV entry faced many difficulties in order to enter the Middle
Eastern media market successfully. MTV Management team s focused on identifying the internal
strengths, internal weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to construct a corporate level strategy to
enter into the Middle East market. By understanding these components, it is possible to compare
MTV s SWOT analysis to the approach that was constructed to enter the region and determine how
it played a vital role in the company s success in the area.
Arabia Environment
To define a corporate strategy MTVN had to develop a profile for the Arabian media market to help
management identify proper business practices and understand the culture in the region. The Arabia
market consisted of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait,
Oman, Qatar, Yemen, Palestine, Syria (Deresky, 2014, pc2 12). In this region, the primary religion

It seems that companies too often lose credit card information, social security numbers, addresses,
and other personally identifiable information. In each case there are steps that can be taken to
mitigate or prevent such damage from occurring. This paper attempts to provide a basic overview
of security practices that electronic commerce companies should follow.
The first category is building a secure network. There are necessary steps in how a company should
approach access into their networks from the outside, from installation of a firewall system, to
configuration, and even access control within the enterprise.
The second category is data protection. Data must be kept secure not only when it is in transit, or in

Target, Neiman Marcus, and even eBay have been victims of breaches involving their customer s
sensitive information. Identity theft is becoming all too common as entire dossiers of individuals
who have done nothing more than purchase something online are shared, sometimes for as little as
a dollar ( Follow the Data: Dissecting Data Breaches and Debunking the Myths, 2015). Incidents
happen when a company doesn t maintain physical security of a device, such as a laptop, or when
unauthorized individuals obtain access to databases.
Every company is responsible for securing the contents of their databases and protecting consumer
information. There are various methods to carry out these goals, but an all of the above method is
necessary to ensure consumer privacy and confidence.
There are six categories in which a company must be compliant in order to protect against loss of
information. Each category must be utilized, as a failure in one renders the others useless. In no
particular order, these categories are Securing the Network, Data Protection, Vulnerability
Management, Access Control, Regular Monitoring and Testing, and maintenance of an Info Sec

Tribal Relations Between The United States Essay
Introduction
Tribal relations to the United States are similar to that of a ward and his guardian. This sentiment
was proclaimed in 1831 in Cherokee Nation V. Georgia. The United States has been attempting to
integrate Native populations into the American systems since the first settlements arrived from
across the sea. Original tribal status was that of dependent domestic nations 1. Recent history has
changed the status of Native America to one of self determination and sovereignty. This status was
not determined by the US Constitution as Native Tribes were sovereign people before
Colonialization. The Unites States solidified the direct relationship between the Native Nations and
the Federal Government with the Indian Commerce Clause of 1879. The Commerce Clause
allowed Congress alone the power to regulate commerce between the United States and the Indian
tribes.2 The Marshall Trilogy, Chief Justice Marshall s Supreme Court cases designated the limits
of tribal sovereignty for the Native populations being surrounded by the newly formed United
States of America. In the first case, Johnson v. M Intosh, the Court recognized Indian nations do not
have a right to enter into treaties without federal approval.3 In Cherokee Nation v. Georgia, Chief
Justice Marshal defined the Indian nations as domestic dependent nations. 4 In the final case,
Worcester v. Georgia, the Supreme Court recognized the Native nation s right to self govern
releasing any control by the States

There were many philosophers that influenced the Enlightenment and had a huge impact on the
American and French Revolution. They all came together to create a better place for people who
wouldn t speak up for themselves and to make it easier for the people to be included in
governmental decisions. One philosopher that had the biggest impact on the American and French
Revolution was John Locke. John Locke was a philosopher who was born in 1632 and died in
1704. John Locke went to Westminster and then Christ Church University of Oxford, from which
he received an outstanding education. He studied in Medicine, and then became a wealthy
philosopher writing about topics like philosophy, education, and etc. John Locke s philosophy for

John Locke believed that every man had natural rights, which meant everyone is born with
certain rights that couldn t be taken away from one and others. For example John Locke said,
which meant that everyone is equal, and no one can put another down due to his/her feeling of
themselves. He believed that these rights were life, liberty, and property. Locke believed if the
people gave some of their freedoms to their ruler, then the ruler could not take away the people s
Natural Rights. This was called the Social Contract. Locke also believed that rulers had rules to
follow too. If the rulers didn t follow the rules/agreement with the people, that ruler could be
overthrown (lose of power). The United States used John Locke s philosophy still to this day
because the rights we come with such as every human is automatically free and given a chance to

a bias and although its has powerful effect it can be seen as a limited view of the subject. She
starts off with her first encounter with the word nigger when she was in third grades and told
the boy behind that he once again scored lower than her. Then suddenly he just spit out the
word, Naylor had never the word. Therefor when she got home, she ask the question every black

was an endearment, adjective, and a racial slur. Naylor then proceeds to explain how the black
community took the once malicious word and made it powerless to them. It would no longer
provide a method of insolent for whites. This quote show how changing the meaning of the once

The Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization
Globalization and Regionalization: As a concept that has become common since the 1990s,
globalization is described as the technological, economic, cultural, ideological, and economic
changes across borders. It can also be regarded as the transformation of the global economy through
the anarchy of financial markets or a technological revolution with social impacts. In contrast,
regionalization is the growth of societal integration within a specific area that incorporates all the
undirected procedures of economic and social interactions among the units in the region. Since
these concepts are different in nature, they contain various strategies that are only effective in
specific situations.
Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization: The concept of globalization has become a
prevalent phenomenon in the past two decades because of the changes it has brought and the
adoption of its strategies by multinational corporations or companies. The economic changes of
globalization include the strengthening of economic inter dependence, internationalization of
production, and enhanced mobility of transnational corporations. On the other hand, trade
liberalization, privatization, and deregulation are the ideological changes emanating from this
concept. Kacowicz (1998) states that the technological changes include information and
communication revolutions that have minimized the world while the trends towards a universal
world culture and synchronization of standards are

Robert Downey Jr Research Paper
Robert Downey Jr. is a well known American actor known for the roles in a wide range of films,
including Iron Man, The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, and Chaplin. His background in movies
and acting arrived from his parents being around in the business. Nonetheless, the life of a
celebrity is not as sophisticated as it seems, especially for Robert Downey Jr who had a drug abuse

History and Background
Robert Downey Jr s tackle with addiction began at the age of six years old. His father, Robert

My Relationship With A Pediatric Home Health Agency
I hate Marietta, I hate Marietta, my new patient chanted. To his credit, he had retreated to his
upstairs bedroom and was speaking quietly, no doubt thinking I couldn t hear him. He was
clearly upset when I arrived earlier that morning, but I was not aware of anything I had done to
cause this. David* was generally energetic and happy, but could turn sullen and bossy very
quickly. He was also resistant to the most basic aspects of his care, such as toileting, and had a
very difficult time transitioning from fun activities to his g tube feedings. My relationship with

Analysis of the Triumph of Divine Love
The art piece that I selected for my analysis is called The Triumph of Divine Love by Peter Paul
Rubens. The artwork is an oil painting on canvas, circa 1625. This piece of art was commission
by Isabella Clara Eugenia, Infanta of Spain and Portugal. The Triumph of Divine Love was one
of eleven art pieces in a series portraying the Eucharist cycle, an important issue in the Catholic
Protestant strife. Its purpose was to aid in the Catholic Reformation and the artwork was to be
displayed at the Convento de las Descalzas Reales in Madrid. (Ringling Museum n.d.)
The scene it portrays shows a woman holding an infant while she stands on a chariot drawn by two
lions. Surrounding her in the air and around her feet are sixteen angels or ... Show more content on

There are also several doves at the bottom of the painting, presumably indicating purity and perhaps
symbols of love as well. (Wall Text 2012) The focal point of the painting is the woman with
infant. This is shown by the lighting in the painting being directly on her, the bright red that she
is wearing, and the circling of the putti around her figure along with the majority of their gazes
being directed at her. The bright light directly behind her and the infant could possibly be
coming from the sun behind the clouds in the sky, the putti to her upper right holding the torch,
or it could be symbolic in that it is the infant s halo and representative of his divine nature. The
overall piece is not overly dark but the lighting seems to be most focused on the woman, infant,
her other children, and the flying putti. This is an example of tenebrism. The flying putti are
shown in a ring around the woman, some holding hands. Some have feathered wings; others have
either insect or fairy like wings. They all seem to have individual faces and expressions and all
express happiness. The putti are contorted in different positions as they fly in the air, and Rubens
uses foreshortening with the limbs to achieve this and show movement and action in the piece,
especially with the two putti directly above the woman s head and the back of their feet showing to
the viewer. He also uses chiaroscuro to give the putti volume shown by the lighting

While Apple and Samsung phones are in the lead, Nokia is somewhere behind, but there are some
features of Nokia phones that could definitely compete with leading phone companies. For
example, high quality camera. Nokia can improvise on it. Nokia Lumia 1020 has one of the best
camera features on the market. The range of options and different effects of that camera are
truly impressive. The Nokia Lumia 1020 has 41 megapixel camera and takes pictures and videos

zoom is other great feature to mention. Also, you can reframe, crop and rotate pictures in any
way you desire. For some reason Lumia 1020 is not as popular as people would expect, having

were growing considerable quantities of crops by the mid 19th century.
One group of Maya led by Marcos Canul attacked a mahogany camp on the Bravo River in 1866.
A detachment of British troops sent to San Pedro was defeated by the Maya later that year. Early
in 1867 British troops marched into areas in which the Maya had settled and destroyed villages in
an attempt to drive them out. The Maya returned and in April 1870 Canul and his men occupied

The Role Of Racism And Discrimination In The United States
As an individual with unique life experiences, It s easy to dismiss the societally constructed

It s understandable to not immediately accept the struggles of others when they are struggles in
which you have never experienced before. Those sins can be forgiven. However, what is not

The political and economic consequences of racial discrimination have most certainly had an
imbalanced benefit for white communities. However, these benefits are accepted as the standard
for which these communities should be and have been in a sense of status quo. This refusal to

can be defined as the refusal to acknowledge the struggle of non white s by using the success of a

Nature And Nature In Coleridge s Frost At Midnight
Coleridge often explores the relationship between humanity and nature in his poetry. These two
groups are unified in his conversation poem Frost at Midnight , and allow the reader into his
internal thoughts. He meditates on comparisons by pairing the magical appearance of frost on the
windowpane to how his thoughts are in flux and reflux. Coleridge shows how the thinking of the
mindmirrors nature and how repeating patterns reveal universal aspects of poetry, thoughts, and
nature. Coleridge makes use of the repetitive patterns in nature and uses them to capture the mind s
movement. The structure of the poem uses frost as a guide. Similar to how frost propagates itself,
the poem contains organic, repeating fractal patterns with small variations within them. These
patterns exist throughout nature in honeycombs, mountains, clouds, and leaves. Furthermore, the
speaker of the poem, Coleridge, and his infant son, Hartley reflect the idea of repetition.
Repetition exists as Hartley is a replica of Coleridge as children can be seen as versions of their
parents. However, Coleridge also points out how he and his son are different as well. Coleridge
wants his son to be intimately familiar with nature, writing With tender gladness, thus to look at
thee, / And think that thou shalt learn far other lore / And in far other scenes! (lines 49 51).

Humor In A Modest Proposal
The purpose of humor is to create happiness and relief. We use humor to talk about
uncomfortable situations or topics, some of us use it for self deprecation. While satire reveals
social flaws, things that need to be addressed, and serious problems within our society, humor
just relieves pain or sadness in the form of laughter. Because there are so many different kinds of

This paper is about the humanitarian mission in Somalia that turned into an effort to rebuild a
nation. It explains how the U.S. military initially entered to assist with the humanitarian efforts but
the scope of the mission changed when United Nations personnel were killed. It also focuses on
why the United States military went after the leader of the Habr Gidr clan, Muhammad Farah
Aidid, who was responsible for the deaths and killings that occurred during the humanitarian
mission. The United Task Force was developed allowing the United States to finally capture and

Theme Of Death In A Clean Well Lighted Place By Ernest...
Ernest Hemingway was one of the most prolific writers of the Lost Generation, of men who lived
through the horrors of World War One. Death played an important role in shaping both his young
and adult life and was a seemingly unavoidable to many of the people closest to him. Hemingway
s life was drastically altered by the outbreak of WWI, which was one of the greatest influences on
the works he would later produce. There, he met his first wife, which marked the beginning of
several troubled and unhappy marriages. His father committed suicidearound this time, the first of
many suicides of the people nearest to Hemingway which would plague him for the rest of his life.
The war remained a driving force in Hemingway s life long after its finish.... Show more content on

Their dispute arise, as the man wishes for the child to be aborted as so that they can be
unrestrained and continue to live their lives in the manner that it was lived, while the woman
wishes to keep the child in order to settle down and live a fulfilling life (Holladay [EBSCO]). Much
like the previous short story, Hills Like White Elephants tackles the concept of finding fulfillment in
the meaningless suffering that is life to Hemingway. The man wishes to lead a life filled with
instant and spontaneous gratitude, that being traveling across the world or drinking, while the
woman wishes to things that are satiating and fulfilling in the long term, like settling down and
raising a family. This leads into the existentialism that is so paramount to Hemingway s worldview.
The man, therefore, represents humanity in the modern age as he does not live honestly and seeks
only what rewards him instantly rather than something that benefits him greater in the long term.
Rather than focus and work towards something truly beneficial, humanity fights to be unrestrained
and minimally responsible for their actions, choosing to devote themselves to simple pleasures and
vices rather than honest and bountiful rewards. The couple is described to be in a bar located in a
rather barren, lifeless area

Research Paper On Driving Under The Influence Of Driving
Driving under the influence isn t something you see on a calendar or even a thought when people
are planning their day. In fact, it s something that isn t given much thought at all until there is a
negative outcome. Many of the ones caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol think
it is only their life that is affected. I have heard people say it s my life, what s the worst that can
happen? I get a DUI ? Well, it s not just their life that is affected by the results of driving under the

Elizabeth Freeman Research Paper
Elizabeth Freeman more commonly known as Mum Bett was born into slavery around the year
of 1742. She spent most of her childhood and early adult years as a slave to a man named John
Ashley and his wife, Hannah in Sheffield, Massachusetts alongside what historians believe to be
her sister Lizzie. That was until Hannah, the wife, tried violently attacking and abusing Freeman s
sister in 1781. Mum Bett reported the incident to a local abolitionist who then brought her case to
the courts. After a surprisingly short trial she became one of the first slaves to sue for her freedom
and became a key factor in the abolishment of slaveryin Massachusetts. Like most slaves of this
era, the exact time and place of the birth of Elizabeth Freeman is undocumented but Bett s is
estimated to be around 1742. Slaves were treated as cattle not humans, birthdays were only
important to their family and themselves. To the slave owners the only paper work that mattered
were the ones that lead to the purchase and selling of slaves that they could profit out of in some
way. However, what is documented is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Characteristics Of The Hissing Cockroaches
Analysis:
Gromphadorhina portentosa, commonly known as the hissing cockroach, lives within the tropical
lowland rainforests of Madagascar among the dry litter on the forest floor. While multiple species
of cockroaches have slender like feet, the hissing cockroach has pads and hooks (Figure 3, shows
the adaptive hooks/visual description of cockroach). A young cockroach, a nymph, undergoes a
process called metamorphosis where its shell sheds periodically to allow for growth. The process
evolved approximately 20 million years ago (Figure 1, phylogenetic tree referencing common
ancestor). Due to metamorphosis, it undergoes mitotic division of its mycetocytes, special cells
that harbour symbiotic microorganisms, approximately 48 hours in a week. The hissing cockroach
is an omnivorous scavenger and can consume both organic and inorganic food, although they
prefer sweets, meats, and starches. Hissing cockroaches also have cellulase in their saliva, which
is meant to break down crystallized cellulose. This trait was developed approximately 10 million
years ago, causing two new distinct species (Figure 1, distinct species split). It responds to tactile
and wind stimulus by turning away from the stimulus and running. As such, a roach will begin
running between 8.2 and gradually to 70.2 m/s after its sensory cells experience stimuli.
Conclusion:
Evolution, the process by which a species gene pool changes over time, creates necessary variation
in organisms for adaptation to a variety

Facebook offered advertisers the opportunity to segment and target its users based on their

was generated by its payments business, which came almost exclusively from the sale of virtual
goods used in social games sold through the online gaming company, Zynga. Facebook s value

Culture And Media Bias
Media shapes the society we live in today and has grown and evolved to become a way of
controlling culture and people. Media has a variety of meanings, the most common being; channels
of communication which can range from interpersonal media such as letters, texting, telephone and
skype to mass media which uses TV, radio, newspapers and the internet to convey information.
The vessel in which information is being communicated is very important, as it has a heavy
influence on the way a society and its culture is formed. Harold Innis, a political economist, wrote
about the bias of communication and monopolies of power and divided media bias into 2
categories; time biased media and space biased media. He compares time biased media to the
Egyptian rule and space bias to the Roman Empire. The idea being that, changes in communication
rapidly advance society, and you must find the correct balance between time and space biased
communication to achieve a stable society.
In Egyptian times, stone and speech were used as methods of communication for laws, tradition,
stories and myths which last generations and are not easily corruptible. Societies with time bias

Human Cloning Persuasive Research Paper
Since March 1997, the birth of a cloned sheep, named Dolly, has caused a great sensation around the
world. Though it was not the first time that the experiment using cloning succeeded, the reason why
Dolly shocked the world was that she was the first clone from a cell of an adult mammal, something
previously thought to be impossible. This meant that the possibility of cloaning humanbeings was
increased. For fear of realizing human cloning, a lot of countries have taken necessary measures to
regulate the study of it. Some people, such as scientists in this field and certain infertile couples,
are now arguing against banning it. But I think we should ban human cloning because it has a
possibility to reduce the value of our life, to take away... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ian Wilmut demands that the study of it not to be banned, emphasizing that the technology
would be useful for the development of treatment for genetic diseases and of mass production of
good cattle which will be surely needed in the future when population is larger than today
(Otsuka 1). Meanwhile, he opposes human cloning for moral reasons. Human cloning will make
family system even worse than it is at the present. Because cloning needs only one DNA, and it
does not matter whether a man or a woman offers it, we can easily imagine that there will be
much more single parent families. If a man wants to have a baby by himself, he can have one,
offering his DNA to a surrogate mother. In other words, children conceived by cloning cannot have
both blood related father and mother. Even if it is okay for a parent, it is very hard for the child.

Theme Of Sonrisas By Pat Mora
Sonrisas , by Pat Mora, is a delicately written poem that offers a necessary perception of the two
lives that almost every adult will live between. True to its postmodern roots, Sonrisas is a poem
that simply seeks to describe and contrast the dull, formal, and sometimes lifeless experience of the
working world with the more exciting, colorful, and warm home experience. This essay will
explore the multiple ways in which Mora uses symbols, structure, juxtaposition, sensory images,
and other figurative devices to describe the experience and atmosphere of the work environment and
home environment and in so doing develop a contrast between the two, as seen from the perspective
of a Mexican. Symbolism and structure are both central to understanding... Show more content on

Through expert use of diction, sensory images, and tautology Mora establishes a vivid depiction
of the formal and bland atmosphere of the corporate environment, and the warm, noisy, and

description of the two worlds both physically on the page and figuratively in the reader s mind,
emphasizing the differences between the workplace and the speaker s home. Mora elegantly uses
symbols two represent her focus points and then through symmetry of structure and information
enhances the distinction between the world of work and world of home. Sonrisas , though told
from the perspective of a Mexican, clearly depicts and smoothly contrasts a reality that almost
everyone can relate to. The poem needs no deeper meaning, or message; it simply stands as a
doorway that gives the reader a view of two

What are the limits?
How far should ARG designers go to ensure the safety of body and mind of their players? What are
the responsible limits of immersion? To what extent do these responsibilities lay with the player
themselves? Consider the implications surrounding the Batman franchise in the context of the Why
So Serious ARG.
In the lead up to the 2009 Batman feature film: The Dark Knight, several thousand people
received a series of clues that led them to bakeries across the US. Providing a password: the
name Robin Banks , the bakeries would give them a box. Inside the box they found a cake. Upon
it, a phone number was written in gaudy purple and yellow icing, along with the demand: Call Me

In response to the shootings, there were murmurs regarding the ethics of immersion, the
responsibility of designers and the implications of fictions bleeding into reality. The cinema chain in
which the shootings took place banned the wearing of costumes at screenings. Were the creators of
the ARG, the cinema, the costumed fans or the creators of the Batman franchise in anyway
responsible for these appalling acts? We can safely assume not. Designers of fictions cannot predict
the way each individual will respond to their creations, but more importantly, one cannot design any
entertainment product to accommodate for psychotic behaviour. All players must take
responsibility for their participation not just in games, but in society too.
Surveillance
While highly elaborate and controlled, ARGs are also intended as open systems, engineered to be
responsive and adaptive to player involvement. In this way, ARGs empower players to become part
of the construction of the game s narrative. To respond player actions and ideas, ARGs require a
degree of player observation and surveillance, which in turn raises issues around personal privacy,
identifying details and data collection. In arguably the first sustained exploration of ethics in real
space games, researchers within the Integrated Project on Pervasive Gaming: Montola, Waern,

Analysis Of The Wold s Wife By Carol Ann Duffy
A feminist interpretation of any piece of literature would explore ...the belief that women are
oppressed or disadvantaged by comparison with men, and that their oppression is... illegitimate or
unjustified. In The Wolds Wife Carol Ann Duffy explores the idea that women are subject to
oppression in everyday life and as a result of this lose their sense of identity, however within three
of the poems in this collection Little Red Cap, Medusa and Pygmalion s Bride Duffy rejects
convention by positioning the femaleas the protagonist within her poems therefore rejecting societal
expectations. The women in these poems do not always abide by the stereotypical behaviours of a
womanand the heteronormativity which is enforced through not only the media but through fairy
tales where young children are taught that as a girl they need to be saved Duffy renounces this idea
through demonstrating in her poems that this should not be accepted as the way of doing things
therefore criticising patriarchy.
Heteronormativity being ...the belief that people fall into distinct and complementary genders (man
and woman) with natural roles in life Duffy instead subverts this idea of conventional gender
stereotypes within her revised tales of well known stories which assert the belief that women
understand that men and women are different and that those very differences provide the key to
her success as a person and fulfilment as a woman . The subversion of such gender stereotypes

  • 2. Drug Testing Professions In many professions, drug testing is the norm. When a company hires an employee, they may be required to be drug tested (Deschenaux, 2015). Throughout the duration of the employment term, drug testing may be required, rather this is a surprise test or not. It would be my opinion that drug testing, for the most part, be used. In many professions, such as hospital, school, or military settings drug testing is mandatory. After all would an individual like to know that their doctor, nurse, child s teacher is under the influence of a drug? I personally would not be happy. While some professions may not need drug testing, it would be improbable to ban drug testing while still enforcing it for these above fields. For example, the military performs ... Many would say both, however if the doctor was never required to take a drug test, then both parties should be held accountable. Drug testing should be used a means to ensure that all those impacted, including those required to take the test, understand that their primary concern is those individuals they serve. Even construction workers serve people, they must ensure the work they do is safe for those who may use whatever is being built. While drug tests may not save lives directly, they have the ability to have an indirect impact if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Circa 1902 1904.Galileo Chini. L Arte della Ceramica Fontebuoni, Florence. Museo Galileo Chini, Borgo San lorenzo. The gold lustreware bowl by Galileo Chini is an object which could seem on first glance devoid of special significance: just a beautiful decorative object enjoyed at face value. (Fig.1) But in the seeming void I saw a repository of layered meanings which I attempted to interpret by examining the artistic cross cultural influences in Florence in the late nineteenth century. And to address the question of why the Mediaeval Hispano Moresque gold lustreware and the design motifs of the Gothic Revivalist repertoires were found on this bowl. I examine why Chini became inspired to use these designs and what they may have meant to him. In this essay I will examine why there was a taste for lustreware in the Florentine workshops and how their clients saw themselves reflected by these golden objects. ... The ceramics produced by Galileo Chini show a large repertoire of historical motifs and cross cultural influences which blended to create a unique creation and distinctly Stile Liberty. From my own observations of his artistic output I would suggest that Chini did not imitate Renaissance maiolica to attract a certain erudite clientele, as in the case of the Cantagalli workshop, but developed his own voice adapting design motifs from the past and projecting them into a new language which is demonstrably modern ... Yes, No. 1 Clemson and No. 2 Alabama were the last two teams standing this season And yes, both teams won their semifinal matchups in convincing fashion But let s not forget about last year s CFP where the No. 4 seed Ohio State Buckeyes had a Cinderella type ending to their season after taking down No. 1 Alabama, followed by a 22 point victory over the Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoff National Championship game. Television ratings improved significantly in first year of the CFP. According to the Los Angeles Times, last year s Playoff Championship game s ratings were up 21 percent compared to the 2014 Vizio BCS National Championship game featuring Florida State and Auburn. The inaugural CFP Championship game was the second most viewed college football championship game in history. According to Adweek, an estimated 33 million viewers tuned in to last year s CFP National Championship game between the Buckeyes and Ducks. • 5. How Did American Culture Affect The Changes In The 1920s The rapid changes in America throughout the 1920s were defined by a multitude of events, people, and advancements. An increase in immigration brought new values and customs to the United States, as there were people coming from all over the world. New lines of work, such as big bureaucratic agencies, changed the workplace, creating an impersonal work culture. Mass media also affected the changes in the 1920sbecause movies, television, radios, and newspapers allowed for celebrities and heroes to gain success. • 6. In Act 3 Scene 2 of Shakespeare s Play Julius Caesar ,... I have studied Julius Caesar a play written by William Shakespeare. I focused the study on act 3 scene 2 the speeches by Brutus and Antony. I am looking at the persuasive techniques used by the two speakers and why Antony s speech won over the crowd. Julius Caesar has been an influential figure in history for 2000 years. Caesar was such a powerful, heroic leader with his death a devastating civil war ensued. Julius Caesar is so influential decisions made today in the present day idolise him like Kaiser of Germany, Tsar of Russia and caesarean births. Antony then tells the crowd that Caesar was not perfect and that he had made many mistakes, The evil that men do lives after them this is like admitting Brutus is right about that but only that. He then begins his attacks on Brutus speech; he manages to tackle Brutus points on why Caesar should die. The first point he attacked was Brutus opinion of Caesar s ambition, Antony argues that Caesar wasn t ambitious, I thrice presented him with a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse, This is a reasons that proved Brutus s main point incorrect. The question Antony asked, Is this ambition? , is an obvious rhetorical question which makes the crowd really think that what he s saying is obvious he also talks about Brutus being honourable at the same time, this has an effect of causing the crowd to believe Brutus is lying and maybe everything he has said may be questionable. Antony then showed the bloody body of Julius Caesar. Antony identified each slice; and named the man who did it. He made the gashes seem cowardly and pathetic like an attack from behind. He shows the cut Brutus made and says how dearly Caesar loved him. This was the most unkindest cut of all to emphasise that Brutus didn t really like Caesar at all, so Brutus must be lying. • 7. Social Domination In The Toilet Michael S. Kimmel notes in Masculinity as Homophobia , being a man is equivalent to not being like women ; the concept of being a man is ultimately obtained by avoiding certain lifestyle choices and personality traits (Kimmel, 31). In this context, as long as a male does not exhibit homosexual tendencies, evades participation in female dominated activities, or refrains from displaying immature emotions such as intense jealousy, a male will ascend society s social hierarchyand attain various forms of power and dominance. According to the logic outlined, the underlying foundation of achieving manhood cannot exist without a social hierarchy. In order for a social hierarchy to exist, there must be a group of people that are subjected to the subordination of a different group of people who possess abundant dominance and power. Within the play, The Toilet , various African American men and one Caucasian man, demonstrate a related social phenomenon in which various men are subjugated to the dominance of two more powerful individuals. The depiction of male figures in The Toilet ultimately seeks to reveal that men, specifically African Americans, must purposefully or inadvertently degrade representations that oppose the ideal depiction of a masculine man. Actions of subjugation in a hegemonic society will ultimately allow leaders to maintain their dominance and power. The Toilet opens with a scene that depicts the character Ora, a short, ugly, crude, loud black man as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Embers Sung Jin Moon Professor Brennan ENGL 110 A6 July 8, 2012 Dusty Nostalgia Humans can be acknowledged as dependent species whom need to necessarily rely on other humans to seek happiness in their life. Majority of happiness are originated from the bond and relationship people make with each other. Values and meanings of relationship cannot certainly be measured with tangible objects; yet, respect and feelings of love can only be obtained by truly understanding one another. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In spite of forty one years and forty three days, Henrik presents himself in front of Konrad as if he was expecting Konrad s return. Henrik could not have faced Konrad with such confidence, without trusting Konrad wholeheartedly. Assurance of Konrad s return is what motivated and inspired Henrik to wait for forty one years and forth three days in his lonely castle. As well as Konrad s return, solid trust between Henrik and Konrad can be identified during the moment of truth. Even though Henrik knows everything regarding Konrad s attempt of murdering him and being unfaithful with Krisztina, he desperately holds onto the faith which he has on Konrad. His calm and organized emotions and words can be described in the following passage: All these years I have never doubted that you wanted to kill me, and I ve always pitied you. I know what you felt so exactly that I could have been standing in your place during that terrible instant when you were overwhelmed (185). No matter how much anger Henrik feels toward Konrad, the feelings of hatred and being betrayed cannot possibly overwhelm the friendship built with absolute trust. Instead of holding grudge against Konrad, Henrik rather chooses to protect the trust which he and Konrad have built up. Trust in their friendship has not only kept them heart to heart for forty one years and forty three days, it also guided Henrik to differentiate the darkness from light of their past. • 9. Literature Analysis Essay MBA633 : Managing Human Resources 1. What figure will Cal Jenson report to Fred Donofrio for the amount that absenteeism cost ONO last year? Answer: Using figure 2 5 on page 52 Cal must compute the total employees hours lost due to absenteeism for the period. ONO lost a total of 539 hours of labor because of absenteeism. Second Cal must compute the weighted average wage or salary totals to $23.50 an hour for an average salary of $47,000. Third one must compute the cost of employee benefits for ONO employees is an additional 33%. Because absent employees are paid Cal must take the compensation lost/hour /absent employee = wage/salary + benefits. Therefore 1.5/539/11=47,000 + 33% = (2.99 or 3). When I worked retail I saw this first hand with black Friday. We scheduled everyone that day and if it was to many people we would send those who wanted to go home early home. Because the money made on black Friday was almost three or four times higher than a normal day it didn t matter our employees hours for the day. 3. What recommendations for action could Cal Jenson make to Fred Donofrio? Answer: The first recommendation Cal should suggest is lowering the amount of sick days. Because 12 is 2 ВЅ weeks a year and the average American uses 2.3 percent of scheduled work time, or an average of 5.5 unscheduled absences per year (F.Cascio, 2013), they could try cutting paid sick days to 10. If that works and numbers lower then leave it ten for a few years and lower it even more. Secondly Cal should recommend that Fred pull the reports for the prior year and see the days that had the highest earnings. Make sure those days you schedule an extra person. Because employees are salary it doesn t matter if they work 2 hours or 8 for the day. Schedule a extra person just incase someone calls out and if they are not needed send them home. Incidents happen when a company doesn t maintain physical security of a device, such as a laptop, or when unauthorized individuals obtain access to databases. Every company is responsible for securing the contents of their databases and protecting consumer information. There are various methods to carry out these goals, but an all of the above method is necessary to ensure consumer privacy and confidence. • 13. Tribal Relations Between The United States Essay Introduction Tribal relations to the United States are similar to that of a ward and his guardian. This sentiment was proclaimed in 1831 in Cherokee Nation V. Georgia. The United States has been attempting to integrate Native populations into the American systems since the first settlements arrived from across the sea. Original tribal status was that of dependent domestic nations 1. Recent history has changed the status of Native America to one of self determination and sovereignty. This status was not determined by the US Constitution as Native Tribes were sovereign people before Colonialization. The Unites States solidified the direct relationship between the Native Nations and the Federal Government with the Indian Commerce Clause of 1879. The Commerce Clause allowed Congress alone the power to regulate commerce between the United States and the Indian tribes.2 The Marshall Trilogy, Chief Justice Marshall s Supreme Court cases designated the limits of tribal sovereignty for the Native populations being surrounded by the newly formed United States of America. In the first case, Johnson v. M Intosh, the Court recognized Indian nations do not have a right to enter into treaties without federal approval.3 In Cherokee Nation v. Georgia, Chief Justice Marshal defined the Indian nations as domestic dependent nations. 4 In the final case, Worcester v. Georgia, the Supreme Court recognized the Native nation s right to self govern releasing any control by the States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization Globalization and Regionalization: As a concept that has become common since the 1990s, globalization is described as the technological, economic, cultural, ideological, and economic changes across borders. It can also be regarded as the transformation of the global economy through the anarchy of financial markets or a technological revolution with social impacts. In contrast, regionalization is the growth of societal integration within a specific area that incorporates all the undirected procedures of economic and social interactions among the units in the region. Since these concepts are different in nature, they contain various strategies that are only effective in specific situations. Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization: The concept of globalization has become a prevalent phenomenon in the past two decades because of the changes it has brought and the adoption of its strategies by multinational corporations or companies. The economic changes of globalization include the strengthening of economic inter dependence, internationalization of production, and enhanced mobility of transnational corporations. On the other hand, trade liberalization, privatization, and deregulation are the ideological changes emanating from this concept. My relationship with him would prove to be both the most difficult and the most rewarding part of the job. When I applied to work as a CNA with a pediatric home health agency, I envisioned that I would be working for a new mom with a child that needed special care for a short time. I had been that mom myself once, bringing home an eight week old infant who needed oxygen and monitoring after birth complications. The artwork is an oil painting on canvas, circa 1625. This piece of art was commission by Isabella Clara Eugenia, Infanta of Spain and Portugal. The Triumph of Divine Love was one of eleven art pieces in a series portraying the Eucharist cycle, an important issue in the Catholic Protestant strife. Its purpose was to aid in the Catholic Reformation and the artwork was to be displayed at the Convento de las Descalzas Reales in Madrid. (Ringling Museum n.d.) Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also several doves at the bottom of the painting, presumably indicating purity and perhaps symbols of love as well. (Wall Text 2012) The focal point of the painting is the woman with infant. This is shown by the lighting in the painting being directly on her, the bright red that she is wearing, and the circling of the putti around her figure along with the majority of their gazes being directed at her. The bright light directly behind her and the infant could possibly be coming from the sun behind the clouds in the sky, the putti to her upper right holding the torch, or it could be symbolic in that it is the infant s halo and representative of his divine nature. The overall piece is not overly dark but the lighting seems to be most focused on the woman, infant, her other children, and the flying putti. This is an example of tenebrism. The flying putti are shown in a ring around the woman, some holding hands. Some have feathered wings; others have either insect or fairy like wings. They all seem to have individual faces and expressions and all express happiness. The putti are contorted in different positions as they fly in the air, and Rubens uses foreshortening with the limbs to achieve this and show movement and action in the piece, especially with the two putti directly above the woman s head and the back of their feet showing to the viewer. Under the policy of indirect rule, a system of elected alcaldes (mayors) linked these Maya to the colonial administration. However, the remoteness of their settlements resulted in the Mopan and KekchГ Maya becoming less assimilated into the colony than the Maya of the north, where a Mestizo culture emerged. By the end of the 19th century, the ethnic pattern that remained largely intact throughout the 20th century was in place: Protestants largely of African descent, who spoke either English or Creole and lived in Belize Town; the Roman Catholic Maya and Mestizos who spoke Spanish and lived chiefly in the north and west; and the Roman ... How Holidays Affects Consumer Culture Holidays have always been known to affect our consumer culture for many years, but how it all began eludes many people and very few studies have been completed on it. Even though some say that the subject is too broad to precisely identify how holidays, especially Christmas, directly affect our market, I have found that people s values, expectations and rituals related to holidays can cause an excessive amount of spending among our society. Most people are unaware that over the centuries holidays have become such a profitable time of year for industries that they now starting to promote gift ideas on an average of a month and a half ahead of actual holiday dates to meet consumer demands. In view of the fact that spirituality was very important to people in earlier days, merchant stands soon started to be seen in the churches court yards due to the vast numbers of people who attended worships services on a daily basis. Merchants and traders soon became a familiar figure around churches especially during the holiday season when services were held more regularly and the turnouts were larger which usually meant they had a better chance for a sale. The merchants offered various products such as produce, meat, fabric, toys, and home made jewelry for all to see. In the picture above a Melaka Christian churchyard is filled with merchants trying to sell their products. Religious beliefs soon formed new values as the importance of gift giving became a tradition among religions. • 35. Nature And Nature In Coleridge s Frost At Midnight Coleridge often explores the relationship between humanity and nature in his poetry. These two groups are unified in his conversation poem Frost at Midnight , and allow the reader into his internal thoughts. He meditates on comparisons by pairing the magical appearance of frost on the windowpane to how his thoughts are in flux and reflux. Coleridge shows how the thinking of the mindmirrors nature and how repeating patterns reveal universal aspects of poetry, thoughts, and nature. Coleridge makes use of the repetitive patterns in nature and uses them to capture the mind s movement. The structure of the poem uses frost as a guide. Similar to how frost propagates itself, the poem contains organic, repeating fractal patterns with small variations within them. These patterns exist throughout nature in honeycombs, mountains, clouds, and leaves. Furthermore, the speaker of the poem, Coleridge, and his infant son, Hartley reflect the idea of repetition. Repetition exists as Hartley is a replica of Coleridge as children can be seen as versions of their parents. However, Coleridge also points out how he and his son are different as well. Coleridge wants his son to be intimately familiar with nature, writing With tender gladness, thus to look at thee, / And think that thou shalt learn far other lore / And in far other scenes! Characteristics Of The Hissing Cockroaches Analysis: Gromphadorhina portentosa, commonly known as the hissing cockroach, lives within the tropical lowland rainforests of Madagascar among the dry litter on the forest floor. While multiple species of cockroaches have slender like feet, the hissing cockroach has pads and hooks (Figure 3, shows the adaptive hooks/visual description of cockroach). A young cockroach, a nymph, undergoes a process called metamorphosis where its shell sheds periodically to allow for growth. The process evolved approximately 20 million years ago (Figure 1, phylogenetic tree referencing common ancestor). Due to metamorphosis, it undergoes mitotic division of its mycetocytes, special cells that harbour symbiotic microorganisms, approximately 48 hours in a week. The hissing cockroach is an omnivorous scavenger and can consume both organic and inorganic food, although they prefer sweets, meats, and starches. Hissing cockroaches also have cellulase in their saliva, which is meant to break down crystallized cellulose. This trait was developed approximately 10 million years ago, causing two new distinct species (Figure 1, distinct species split). It responds to tactile and wind stimulus by turning away from the stimulus and running. As such, a roach will begin running between 8.2 and gradually to 70.2 m/s after its sensory cells experience stimuli.
