choose. Socrates careful choice of words give much color to his quote, an unexamined life is no life
for a human being to live. The word examined for example has many definitions, including: to
observe or inspect carefully or critically; to study or analyze; to check the health or condition of
something or someone; to inquire into; et cetera. We could imagine that Socrates would insist that

This poem that I am going to be focusing on is titled Ode to Autumn , written by John Keats. This
poem shows an aspect of the natural world and I am going to prove in detail how the techniques used
by the poet made me think more deeply about the subject.
The title of this poem is Ode to Autumn . This is basically what the poem is about. The poem focuses
on autumn, one of the four seasons. I am going to be focusing on two techniques used by the poet
which are mood and word choice. Autumn is known to us as a season heading into the cold winter.

These verbs are found in line five, seven and eight of stanza one. There are such as to bend , to swell
and to set budding . The use of verbs in this early part of this poem is effective in creating a sense of
motion and it makes the reader think deeply about he kind of autumn that the poet is describing.
Finally, in the first stanza, the poet uses repetition to also convey and image of plenty. The expression
to set budding more and still more shows that there is plenty. It also shows something infinite. The
poet uses the repetition of the word more to convey this image. This type of technique used is very
effective as it increases the emphasis on the right message that the poet is trying to carry across.
The second stanza focuses on the behaviour of the poet and how he reacted to autumn. It also shows
how relaxing autumn was. Again, the poet starts the stanza with an expression, this time a question.
Who hath not seen Thee oft amid thy store?
The poet then goes on to answer this question. The third line in the second stanza reads sitting on a
granary floor . This suggests that the poet was relaxing on the granary floor in a laid back atmosphere.
The poet uses the word choice winnowing before including the word wind. This technique is effective
because it brings in a sense of motion in the wind and the word winnowing

Esther Greenwood, the protagonist of The Bell Jar by Silvia Plath, is cast under the spell of her own
depression and the story of being released from the spell follows the structure of one of the 7 plot

She stops writing, bathing, changing her clothes, and sleeping. This worries her mother, who sends
Esther to a psychiatrist who prescribes her to shock therapy. But instead of having the shock treatment
healing Esther, the doctors do the procedure improperly and terrify her, which leads her into a living
hell. Now is the Nightmare Stage, the part of the story where the spell is in complete control of the
protagonist and any chance of a happy ending is about as shrunken as the protagonist s free will.
Esther, through suicide, tries multiple times to rid the burden of her depression, which has controlled
her after the shock treatment. She first tries to cut herself, but fails after viewing her wrist as white and
defenseless. Esther continues by saying, It was as if what (Esther) wanted to kill wasn t in that skin or
in the thin, blue pulse that jump under (Esther s) thumb, but somewhere else, deeper, more secret, and
a whole lot harder to get at, (Plath 147). After her failed self harm attempt, Esther tries harder to kill
whatever was deeper inside of her. She tries hanging herself, but doesn t bother after seeing there is no
place to hang in the low ceilinged house. Later on, Esther s friend takes her on a double date with a
boy named Cal. She asks Cal how he would kill himself and his answer disappoints her, saying that he
would shoot himself. Then she challenges Cal to a swimming race in the ocean so she can drown

Panda Bears are adorable. They are very resourceful and family oriented. This is part of the reason I

Reflection On Gender And Socialization
Gender socialization is defined as the process in which people learn to behave according to
stereotypical gender roles (Iwamoto, 2017). In my own life, gender socialization caused me to modify
my actions, behaviors, and relationships. Furthermore, although I have learned that these stereotypes
come from a place of generalization, and do not need to be endorsed, gender socialization still impacts
me even throughout my adult life. Because my parents are both immigrants from Bangladesh, most of
the gender roles I was exposed to as a child came from my family. One of the most prevalent aspects

an arranged marriage, and because I lived with both these women as a child, they were constantly

the house, all before I turned 10 years old. Whenever I wanted to do something that went against what
it meant to be a proper young girl, such as play with my younger brothers outside or skip making tea
one time, I heard the words, No one will marry you if you act like this. When I was about 11 years old,
I was sick of hearing that, so I screamed at my mom, telling her that maybe I don t want to get
married. I remember the look of shock on her face so clearly, even close to a decade later. Her next
words were, Well, the only other thing you can do is become a nun. Being told from such a young age
that I only had two choices in my life, get married or become a nun caused me to feel continuously
angry, especially at my family. I thought that nothing I did ever mattered as long as I did not find a
husband, have children, and spend the rest of my life taking care of them.
