Introduction: Etic or Emic? At what extent are McSweeney s critiques valuable?
Arguably, Hofstede s work (1980, 1997) represents a pioneering approach of culture as a way of
comparing international management frameworks. First of all, prior to offering any evaluations in
regards to McSweeney s criticism (2002a/b), it is crucial to identify the nature of Hostede s work
within the entire sphere of the culture approach itself.
In contrast to the guarantors of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As McSweeney s (2002a: 95 99) argues, respondents cultural framework is made up by three non
interacting and durable levels of culture (Tab.2).
At the first level, the assumptions which would free this model from any shortcomings would be that
there is only one IBM culture and that there is also a common worldwide occupational culture for each
job (Hofstede 1980a: 181). What are these assumptions based on?
[Tab.2]
According to McSweeney (2002a: 96), these assumptions are too crude and implausible to underpin
Hofstede s emphatic empirical claims . Following the thread of his argument we come across a
situation where assuming that an IBM employee, whether in a developed USA head office or a new
opened branch office in Pakistan, will possess the same identical organizational and occupational
culture does become hard to encompass. In response to this argument, Hofstede acknowledges that
considerable differences exist at the organizational level (1991: 93), yet it redefines the entire
organizational culture as a mere set of shared perceptions of daily practices (1991: 182 3), therefore
distancing from the early stage value based definition. According to McSweeney (2002b), this is only
a failed attempt to deliver a straightforward concept and definition of organizational culture.

Hofstede s vision of culture is often linked to two different concepts, unique national tendency and
central tendency, respectively. In the

The Issue of Mass Illegal Immigration to the United States
Introduction America is deemed the land of the free and the home of the brave. The very fabric of this
great nation was built upon immigrants from the Pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock to the millions of
immigrants landing at Ellis Island. America is known as a melting pot of many different cultures and
ethnic groups with roughly 11.7 million illegal immigrants living here. There has been a long standing
love/hate relationship with the issue of immigration. It has long been debated as to whether or not we
should continue to allow immigrant into our country so freely. Since the 1700 s the U.S. has been
working on and has implemented policies try to restrict and govern the immigrants entering this
country. Many immigrants come to America looking for a better way of life than what was destined
for them in their native lands. Prior to the events of 9/11, for nearly two decades, America welcomed
immigrations to our country with open arms. After 9/11, America s ideals begin to shift pertaining to
immigrants, our nation s safety, and border patrol. America was left with great fear, post 9/11, and
began to implement many changes in our border patrol and immigration laws. In response to record
numbers of illegal border crossings and the security fears triggered by the 9/11 attacks, over the past
two decades the United States has steadily increased its efforts to secure its borders against illegal
immigration. The number of U.S. Border Patrol agents has risen from fewer than

Analysis Of Andrew And Mason s The Great Gatsby
Over the next two days, Andrew and Mason found three more of the reels. One was hidden underneath
the cushion of one of the chairs in the spare room that Mason found when the cushion fell off as he
carried it down the hall and into the living room; Andrew was the one who tripped over the cushion
and nearly cracked his head against the doorframe. They discovered the fourth one while trying to
knock old cereal boxes off the top of the fridge with a broom instead of standing on the worn, slightly
unstable counter. Andrew barely managed to catch the canister before it fell on Mason s foot. Judging
by the amount of dust on the fifth one, it had rolled under the couch months before they moved in and
decided to move it to the other side of the room. Mason nearly lost his balance and dropped his end of
the couch on himself when he stepped on it and sent it spinning out from underneath his foot. By this
point, Mason had had enough. This whole damn house is booby trapped with the stupid things! He
ranted as Andrew calmly examined the canister for dents before placing it on the shelf with the others.
It s like this house doesn t even want us here! You know that s not true, Mase. You re just having a run
of bad luck, that s all, Andrew replied calmly as he admired the small collection gathering on the shelf.
Those stupid, worthless pieces of crap are going to be the death of me. Mark my words! Mason strode
angrily out of the room, the couch momentarily forgotten. Consider

The Topic Of Controlling Women’S Reproductive Systems Has
The topic of controlling women s reproductive systems has been an issue for many years. About a
century ago, birth control in any form was illegal. As women s rights came to the forefront of
American politics, women fought for the right to vote and gained the ability to use contraception and
eventually get abortions. In 1921, The American Birth Control League formed ; this later became
Planned Parenthood, and gained thirty thousand members in its first three years. This organization
founded the first birth control clinic. In 1938, the US Circuit of Appeals decided a case that permitted
physicians to give information about contraception to their patients. By the 1940s, there were three
hundred new birth control clinics and 80% of American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
States could only enact abortion laws protecting the life of the fetus only in the third trimester, but
exceptions must be made to protect the life of the mother. Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington fought
the case on behalf of Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe) under the claim that the Texas law banning
abortions violated Roe s constitutional rights to privacy (McBride, Roe v. Wade). The Supreme Court
decided in Roe s favor in a 7 2 decision (Oyez, Roe v. Wade). The decision deemed marriage,
contraception, and child rearing as part of a Constitution guaranteed zone of privacy from the 1st, 4th,
9th, and 14th amendments. This decision also deemed a woman s right to terminate her pregnancy as
part of this zone of privacy. The opposition gave three justifications for banning abortions. The first
was a Victorian like social concern to discourage illicit sexual conduct, the second to protect the life of
the mother, and the third to protect prenatal life. The court rejected the first two reasons, and ruled that
fetuses do not fit the definition of a person (McBride) The court also ruled that if a fetus is viable, then
states may disallow abortions as long as the life of the mother is not at stake, and states may restrict
abortions during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Forty six states were affected by this decision.
In 1992, the United States Supreme Court ruled on the Casey v. Planned Parenthood case. While this
case affirmed Roe. v Wade, it

Two Forms Of Driverless Cars, Questions And Answers
I m for driverless cars because they can determine which route to take to reach the destination listed.
These can also help determine criminal activity made by their drivers. Most of these situations can
also help people stay safe. Most people could also program personalities into the car. Most times a
driverless car could have an AI computer chip in it, while others use the motion of the head. The AI
could be programmed to help check the destination and routes to the location to determine if they are
family friendly. The motion control, however, can follow the motion of the body and make
calculations to determine how fast to move and where to go. These two forms of driving can prevent
accidents from happening and protect people from reckless

The White Family From The Documentary, The Wild And...
This essay examines and analyzes the various behaviors and personalities of the infamous White
family from the documentary, The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia. During this analysis,
topics such as, antisocial personalities, and IQ are applied to specific events that occur in the
documentary. In addition to these mentioned topics, traits that are often associated with criminal
behavior and, the multiplier effect, and the general strain theory. Each of these theories and topics will
directly be associated with a specific behavior or personality that a member of the White family
displays. The general strain theory, can be heavily applied to this documentary as there are an
overabundance of ripples that stem from the multiple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These choices are often in response to the strain they are already attempting to cope with, IQ plays a
part in how a person copes with the strain or difficulty in their lives. Additionally, listening to any
member of the White family speak, it is highly visible that many of the members lack a basic
education and that their IQ seems to be extremely low. As we have seen, IQ and temperament are
given prominent roles as factors influencing how a person copes with strain and thus how insulated he
or she if from criminal behavior Having antisocial behavior, the lack of education, and not having
gainful employment is closely related to IQ and how it affects a person s life outcomes. Take for
example, Poney White and his family, Poney had issues in his youth with the law, he served his time
and made the decision to move out of Boone County, he is gainfully employed and his children, have
more ambition and the understanding of how the environment in Boone County can affect them
negatively. Poney states that he only had education up until the 7th grade, however he still made the
decision to seek out a better environment and opportunity for himself and his family. The multiplier
effect by Dickens and Flynn, can also be applied to the Whites

Young Women And Sexual Relationships
Young Women and Abuse in Relationships During the week on victim blaming, we studied women in
abusive relationships which is a topic close to my heart. I selected the topic of young women in
abusive marriages or marriage like relationships to see how and why women in abusive relationships
cope. In the peer reviewed, scholarly article entitled, Young Woman s Experience of Coping with
Violence in Intimate Relationships by Marina Ursa and Corinne Koehn, young women s coping
mechanisms were analyzed and assessed against past research. Marina Ursa and Corinne Koehn
analyzed interviews of five women ages 19 24, because this age group is the most common to
experience abuse. Their goal was finding the differences and similarities in the decisions made in
coping with abusive relationships before the women left their abusers. Numerous women have
reported self soothing such as cheating on their abusers, substance abuse, and self harm as their coping
mechanisms. Another common theme between prior research and this study is rationalizing the
negative experiences and enjoying the positive experiences. Some woman s rationale was having a
home to live in and financial support which is another topic we learned about in this unit. A key factor
found was personal or spiritual beliefs such as God would never give them more than they could
handle and karma would sort everything out. Similarly to what we learned in class, Marina Ursa and
Corinne Koehn discussed how women can be

Social Expectations Of Women In The Chaser
The Chaser represents the relationship between men and women and the degree of power they have in
terms of social expectations, lack of morals, and a what women are capable of. First, there are
expectations a man seeks in a women in a patriarchal society. She will not like them anymore, said the
old man. She will be afraid of the pretty girls you may meet, (26) This shows how a woman will be
expected to be wrapped around a man s finger in a relationship. Explaining that after Diana drinks the
love potion she ll develop jealousy to the point it s possessive. She will, when she has taken this. She
will care intensely. You will be her sole interest in life, (30). This gives a social expectation of how a
woman must value their man and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How carefully she will looks after you! She will never allow you to be tired, to sit in draught, to
neglect your food, (34) This reflects how women must be able to cater, and take care of their male
partner. Also, women don t have the ability to do things on their own without the concerns of their
male partner. Of course not, said the old man. But if [you did cheat] you need not worry. She would
never divorce you, (38). This shows how women are looked in a patriarchal society. It implies how
women get so attached and never tend to let go of their relationship because they are too weak to do
so. It makes women look desperate. In addition, it reflects women tend to have the capability to
always forgive when a man cheats. She will want to be everything to you... When she has taken the
[love potion]. She will care intensely. You will be her sole interest in life, (28 30). This ties into how
women do not have the ability to be independent. How they will tend to avoid everything else around
them and focus on their man. Furthermore, the fact that Diana will not be herself after taking the
potion shows how forceful a man can be in a

Ultimate Love in Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel
Laura Esquivel s Like Water for Chocolate is a love story set in Mexico, interspersed with recipes,
related in unadorned, uncomplicated language. Yet when the ingredients are combined and simmer,
subtle and unusual flavors emerge. On one level, this is the story of Tita, youngest daughter of the
formidable matriarch Mama Elena who forbids Tita to marry her true love Pedro because tradition
says that the youngest daughter must care for her mother until her death. When Pedro marries Tita s
oldest sister in order to be near Tita, it begins a life long conflict filled with passion, deception, anger,

As a toddler she spent her days witnessing the magic that Nacha manifested every time she set herself
to make a platter. Tita was her apprentice and without knowing it, little by little, she completely
embodied the power to cook, and what?s more, to reveal herself through her food. When she had no
other way to express herself, food became her mode of communication. Mama Elena?s cruel
appointing of Tita as head of all the preparations for the wedding of her sister Rosaura and the man
that Tita loved, resulted very tragically. While baking the cake with Nacha, Tita?s tears sank into the
batter of the cake, and acted as poisonous toxins that nauseated all those who ate it, ruining the
wedding, and killing Nacha herself, who also tasted Tita?s melancholy teardrops:
Weeping was just the first symptom of a strange intoxication
an acute attack of pain and frustration that seized the guests and scattered them across the patio and
the grounds and in the bathrooms, all of them wailing over their lost loves

Her feelings towards the other nuptial that occurs in the novel are completely different since it occurs
much later in her life and Mama Elena and all the forces that were against her, had vanished. At her
niece?s wedding, Tita felt so much happiness in preparing all the edibles that everyone complimented
her food and those who dared to ask her for the secret recipe only received the reply: ?The secret is to

Evaluation And Verification Of Software Testing
Abstract:
Now a days in a commercial industry like IT, developing a software at an optimized cost is very much
necessary and that pressure is always there on each and every organization. And Software testing
forms integral part of any software life cycle. Hence, selecting the right tool for test automation at the
lowest cost possible is always important and very significant. In this project I would like to work on
comparing 2 popular functional test automation tools namely Quick Test Pro which is a licensed tool
and Selenium, an open and free source by considering various factors other than cost which is only a
price of tool. In longer run I assume even though QTP is a licensed tool it provides more flexibility
and can be useful in much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many existing tools like Quality Center which is licensed by HP. All the stages are designed
and implemented manually from requirement analysis, designing test plan, developing test scenarios,
writing test cases, executing the test cases, defect reporting etc. The problems with manual testing are
time consuming and non reusable and no scripting facility, manual effort required and few errors are
uncovered [1]. Manual Testing is preferred to review the application requirements, and to create the
High Level design Documents and Low level design Documents [3].
On the contrast, Software Automation means automatic software design. In software development it is
significant to liberate software engineers from doing same tedious work multiple times with the
assistance of tools. Automation testing approach makes use of various tools based on the testing
requirement of the Application under Test (AUT). In Automation testing tester runs the script on the
testing tool and testing is done. The tester may or may not know the inside details of the software
module under test [9]. Therefore white box testing or black box testing can be used. White box testing
is highly effective in detecting and resolving problems, because bugs can often be found before they
cause trouble [11]. White box testing is the process of giving the input to the system and checking how
the system processes the input and generated the required

There are several definitions of individual crisis which all includes some kind of altering event or
events. Depending on that event, a person can react in several different manners. Crisis also has serval
characteristics which aid in the definition of crisis. Along with several definitions and characteristics
there are theories for crisis and crisis intervention. Researchers created crisis and crisis intervention
theories to exam components of the behavioral or emotional response to crisis and the possible
prevention.
Crisis intervention according to the reading is fairly new to the mental health system. There was less

and challenged people find a home incarcerated because of the lack of trained professionals. Those
that suffer from mental illness do not receive proper care while incarcerated. This is only one example
of the gap in services and the need to increase crisis interventions. Before there were crisis and crisis

The Era of Wonderful Nonsense
The 1920 s is sometimes referred to as the Roaring Twenties, or The Era of Wonderful Nonsense. The
nonsense this phrase is referring to is the style and boldness of the new kind of rebel: the flapper. In
the 1920 s the flappers shocked everyone and set the path for other people who yearned to stand out
and be different. The flappers certainly contrasted the generation before them, but that did not happen
overnight. There are many reasons credited as to why flappers started rebelling, but one of the major
ones was WWI. The women decided that most of the eligible bachelors were dead or at war, meaning
that there were not enough men to go around. When those men had gone off to war, they left their
jobs, meaning that someone had to work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these things were so improper that women were arrested for smoking in public even though
smoking was not illegal. Flappers took every chance they could to make things scandalous. The style
of flappers was one of the most controversial things about them. Before the Roaring Twenties, dresses
that went above the middle of the calf muscle were unheard of, let alone just below or just above the
knee. These new dress lengths horrified older generations. Along with the dress, she would wear a step
in, a single piece of lingerie that took the place of the stiff boned corset (Gourley 62). Because of this,
the flappers could maneuver more freely. The dresses were not the only reason for this. Another new
concept the flappers shocked the world with was short, bobbed hair. Long hair represented elegance
and respect, but flappers had no time for elaborate hairdos (Fashion . . . through the Ages 1). Many of
them would wear their hair in small waves called marcels, named after the man who invented them,
Marcel Greateau. Sometimes they would pin the hair back with another new invention called a bobby
pin, which is still in use today. The shorter hair added to the boyish look that the flappers wanted.
They would also wear newsboy caps and bras that made their chests look smaller, because big chests
were considered ladylike. The flappers liked to believe that they were the complete opposite of
ladylike. The center of attention was the desired goal. Everyone

Why Do Two Parties Dominate American Politics
Topic: Explain why two parties dominate the history of American politics
Political Parties in the United States are mostly dominated by a two party system. However, the
United States Constitution has always been silent on the issue of political parties; at the time it was
signed in 1787, there were no parties in the nation. At that time, no nation in the world had voter based
political parties. The need to win popular support in a republic became popular to the American
people. This led to the invention of voter based political parties in the 1790s (1). Americans were
especially innovative in devising new campaign techniques that linked public opinion with public
policy through the party they supported.
The modern two party system consists of the Democratic Party and the Republican. Over the years,
there have been several third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the development of these two major parties, it awards seats in Congress and the presidency, by
the votes of the people. These votes are not popular votes. These votes are determined by the Electoral
College. Candidates running for Congress need only to get a plurality of the vote to be elected. In
short, the presidential candidate needs to win the individual state s electoral votes. Here s how the
Electoral College works. Each state is assigned a number of electoral votes, based on the size of its
population. The 538 electoral votes are chosen by the political parties in each state. A candidate needs
270 electoral votes to become President. If no candidate gets a majority of electoral votes, members of
the House of Representatives choose the President. In 48 states, the winner of the popular vote (the
votes cast by citizens) gets all of the state s electoral votes. The way in which presidents are elected
are state by state, as long as they win a plurality of the vote in that state

Journey In Judaism
According to tradition, we say at the end of the Seder night the request Next year in Jerusalem! . So
what happens if I live in Jerusalem? Do you say this year in Jerusalem! Just skip it? You can be miles
away from Jerusalem, even if you live there. On the other hand, you can be on the other side of the
world but very close to Jerusalem. Because Jerusalem is more than a geographical location. Jerusalem
is an ideal for which we struggle. The Jewish story can be summed up as a long journey from Egypt to
Jerusalem. Beyond being geographic sites, Egypt and Jerusalem symbolize two opposite spiritual
states. This journey is a journey of spiritual tribulations. Both as a nation and as individuals, we have
always lived the slavery of Egypt and marched towards freedom in the Promised Land. ... Show more

It represents a situation in which our souls are trapped inside our bodies, subject to material desires
and related to physical limitations. This is a world where justice and holiness are held hostage to
corruption and selfishness. Jerusalem means a city of peace a place of peace between body and soul,
between heaven and earth, between ideal and reality. When our body is not a prison for the soul, but a
tool for the soul s expression; When we live our lives according to our ideals and not according to our
desires; When the world appreciates kindness and generosity rather than egoistic gain, then it is the
sign that we are in Jerusalem, that we are at peace with ourselves and with the world. Imagine being in

During the opening scene of the film Devil s Advocate , vanity takes form almost immediately. Kevin
displays clear disgust for his paedophilic client, forcefully advising [him] to get the fuck away from

Kevin to put away his morals and win the case, which results in Kevin s promotion to New York, but

In Russel Banks Black Man and White Woman in a Dark Green Rowboat The author implies that
dealing with an unexpected pregnancy may be a difficult and uncomfortable situation. This story
discusses a couple that is dealing with a unique circumstance and they have to make a decision. As a
reader, you won t want to miss the tension of this interracial couple as they battle against the pressure
of society. I will be discussing symbolism as well as setting throughout this entire essay. In the first
section I will be addressing the surroundings; establish a foundation , and illuminate some background
on this story. The next part of my essay will be focusing on the conflict and how the setting
demonstrates the tension between the main characters. The final section will focus on the resolution,
how the lack of change in the setting is symbolic, and has a deeper meaning.

Biomechanics Of Golf Essay
Golf Biomechanics
Golf, The gentleman s game. A sport renowned for money, colourful pants, old people, Tiger Woods
and being the worst game to watch on TV. But, surprisingly enough, golf has too many biomechanics
than I have time to explain. Everything interesting in golf happens in the span of about 1.5 seconds
and everything that matters happens in half a millisecond. That s right, even though it takes 5 minutes
for a golfer to setup for a shot, 0.004 seconds of those 5 minutes counts. Now don t get me wrong, I
love golf. If I didn t, I d be talking about a sport that requires a sharp mind and peak physical
condition. But, now that I m here, I may as well get on with my presentation
The basic premise of golf is to get the ball in the hole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the backswing starts, torque is being created as the golfer takes the club back and rotates in a
clockwise direction. Unlike many other sports, a golf swing does not happen while the player is
moving (unless you are happy Gilmore of course). A golfer will remain at a fixed point and rotate
around an axis, which in this instance is around the centre of the chest. Torque can be calculated by
multiplying the amount of force by the lever arm of the force. The lever arm of a golf swing is
calculated by the perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation here to the line of action of the force
here. As I explained earlier, the long shaft of the driver increases the length of the lever arm and,
although more force is required to move the club, a greater amount of speed can be created. Adding to
this, the larger the rotation away from the axis, the more angular acceleration can be created and a
greater amount of torque is produced. This explains why many great drivers of the golf ball have large
amounts of shoulder rotation as it allows them to create as much torque as possible, translating into
larger amounts of angular acceleration and longer drives. Considering the average length of drives is
increasing year by year, it s not hard to see why increased torque is vital for an advantage in

If the Major League baseball season were to end today, the Milwaukee Brewers would finish with the

Top prospects in baseball are more important than ever in today s game. For the past few years we

with the 11th best bullpen era this season. Milwaukee s young pitching is quickly improving too. The
Brewers offense is currently in the exact middle for most offense categories this season. This means,

Gender Relations During The Jacobean Period
Deconstructing Gender Relations Gender in the Jacobean Period was approached differently than
gender in the 18th century. One can use the Jacobean period play Measure for Measure by William
Shakespeare and the 18th century play The Beaux Stratagem by George Farquhar to examine gender
relations during the two periods. The plays demonstrate how women were represented in society and
what societal expectations were at the time. The way women navigated their own sexuality, finances,
and power relation s improved noticeably from the Jacobean Period to the 18th century. During the
Jacobean Period women were not allowed to preform in theatres; all of the players were men and boys
(Spear 13). Because of the violent nature of theatres women didn t attend plays as Groundlings and
few could afford to sit above in the covered seats above. The theatre was a place for corruption and
immorality and women were looked down upon during the Jacobean Period for attending
performances in playhouses around London. The theatre was a harsh place where audience members
were tightly packed in. They would hiss, shout, and throw rotten vegetables at actors they disliked or
applaud and clap for those they approved of (Spear 14). The play Measure for Measure shows the
powerlessness of women during the Jacobean Period. The female characters in the play are helpless in
determining their fates. The central female character in Measure for Measure, Isabella, has been both
idealized as an ideal woman

More recently, the food trend has turned into pre heated or pre cooked meals to take away (Schlosser,
2001).
In recent years, the fast food industry has been facing significant challenges due to the increase in the
consumer awareness on the production process and health concerns. The consumer awareness on
health factors and the marketers detecting the possibility of change in the consumer taste have led the
firms to expand their product lines in drinks more healthy foods (Schlosser, 2001). In other words, the
industry is fighting saturation by creating a much more diverse variety of offerings.
2 What are Organic Foods?
The changes in the consumer taste and the increase in the consumer awareness in eating healthy
products and organic foods have increased immensely in the past few years throughout the whole
world as well as the UK (BBC, 2001).
To have a healthy life, eating organic and healthy is a great way to start. The confusion among the
consumers is due to lack of information towards nutrition and individually the amount and what the
body needs. It is not only going to a shop and purchasing fruits, vegetables, whole grains etc. but
being aware of how these goods are grown raised and how they would influence the individual s
health and the environment.
The expression organic denotes the way agricultural products are grown and processed (Fromartz,
2006). Certain requirements should be met in order for a product to get the label organic such as

This publication does not seek to discuss Ecuador ́s political proposal towards building said socialism
exhaustively or in depth. This analysis has been developed at length in other writings4 and is also
embodied in the National Plan for Good Living, 2009 20135. In this occasion, it is more pertinent to
posit a philosophical political analysis of one of the flagship initiatives that Ecuador has presented to
the world and that is a symbolic example of the dispute of the logic of capitalist development : the
YasunĂ ITT6 Initiative. This project consists of keeping the oil underground (not drilling for it) in one
of the most mega diverse areas of the world, located in the Ecuadorian Amazon. In that sense it is a
concrete example of the ways a society of good living can be built. The framework for this analysis is
a discussion taking place globally among a certain branch of Leftist thought that believes that what is
most progressive and achievable nowadays is to devise and construct improvements in the
administration of capitalism in other words, to promote its good 7 side and another stance, which
presents anti capitalism from a purely theoretical perspective, regardless of the political viability of
their proposals.
Before delving into the debate on the YasunĂ ITT Initiative, in the first part of this article I would like

Principles Of The International Olympic Committee
Within every business or organization, there must be a set of values and goals that are established to
prove consistency throughout their existence. These values and principles are there for them to follow
and to lay groundwork as to how they should handle everything that encompasses their organization.
In the same way, the International Olympic Committee was set to provide a charter to highlight their
mission and their principles. While it has become clear that Olympism aims to promote a joy of effort,
the educational value of good example, social responsibility and respect for universal fundamental
ethical principles (IOC, 2015, p.13), it has also become evident that they must partner with sponsors to

This in return turns out to be misleading to the investors, but since General Electric is also sponsoring
the Olympics this could cause one to question the true stance on their sponsorship. By General
Electric deviating from SEC rules, it s as if the International Olympic Committee were not to follow
the charter and to be going against their values of following good governance within their
organization.
Considering the above contradiction, a solution would be to get more involved in the governance of
General Electrics. A way to do this would be to have the International Olympic Committees financial
auditors evaluate and monitor General Electric s financial auditors and double check their work. This
would ensure that any wrong doing on General Electric s behalf be taken care of immediately and with
advice from the International Olympic Committee on making the right decision that will go along with
their values. Through this solution, the Olympics don t risk losing a highly ranked company as a
sponsor, but can also aid in reducing irrevocable mistakes.
Furthermore, two other sponsors, Samsung and Panasonic have undergone scandals that contradict the
Olympics values. In November of 2016, Samsung and Panasonic were under investigation for abusing
labor rights. In their supply chains in Malaysia, workers seemed to be deceived regarding pay and

The Homelessness Epidemic Of Homelessness
The Homelessness Epidemic
According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, approximately 564,708 people were
homeless on a single night in January of 2015 in the United States ( The State of Homelessness in
2016 ). It is estimated that 250,000 people who suffer from Mental Health illnesses are homeless
(Torrey). Providing affordable housing, and access to mental health services for the homeless
population are essential components to end the homeless epidemic.
Homelessness can be defined as individuals that do not have a permanent residence to return to at
nighttime, are living in a location not designed for humans, living in shelters, or at imminent risk of
loosing their housing (Bassuk, DeCandia). In Colorado in 2013, according to The National Center on
Family Homelessness 44,565 children were homeless, and forty five million families were living
below the poverty line (Bassuk, DeCandia). Homelessness is most often caused by increases in
poverty rates, housing is unaffordable, lack of education and training, single parenting, and mental
health and trauma.
Providing affordable, low income housing for the homeless population is essential in ending chronic
homelessness. Chronic homelessness can be defined as an individual who has spent a year or more
without a home. It is estimated that about 15% of the homeless population, or 83,170 individuals are
considered chronically homeless ( Snapshot of Homelessness ). According to the Denver Post, there is

Historical Debates Are The Most Common, And Often Most
Historical debates are the most common, and often most effective, tool for which new study and
scholarly perspectives are forged. The topic of municipalization might not seem at first glance like a
vessel for heated scholarly debate; however, once one peels back the curtain, several lines of argument
arise. Municipalization, in the classical sense, is the effective bringing into the fold of institutions and
governments under the control of a larger body. This particular inquiry will focus on the Roman
Empire, and one particular source of law that has sparked a wider discussion on the phenomena of
municipalization in the entirety of the Roman sphere of influence, the Tabula Heracleensis. More
detail will be given to the specific aspects of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most pertinent aspects of Scott s study to the Tabula Heracleensis are censuses, standardization of
weights and measurements, and the organization of trans regional transportation. These things are all
mentioned in some form in the Tabula, and thus we must try and apply Scott s theory to it. Scott
essentially believes that states cannot possibly understand the intricacies of social phenomena and any
attempt at large scale standardization (or municipalization) is carried out through the coercive force of
the state and will likely result in a negative social environment. This is shown best through the quote,
Because local standards of measurement were tied to practical needs, because they reflected particular
cropping patterns and agricultural technology, because they varied with climate and ecology, because
they were an attribute of power and an instrument of asserting class privilege, and because they were
at the center of bitter class struggle, they represented a mind boggling problem for statecraft. In a
rather long winded way, Scott is asserting that governments often cannot account for the social,
economic, and cultural methodologies that go in to a particular aspect of daily life. This will become
key once applied to the Tabula.
As for Edward Bispham s work From Asculum to Actium: The Municipalization of Italy from the
Social War to Augustus, Bispham has a different take on Municipalization this time specifically

Voltaire s Theory Of Optimism
Candide, published in 1759 by Voltaire, is a satirical novella criticizing the type of European
Civilization Voltaire grew up around. Voltaire is known for his literary works mocking the time period
he lived in, especially when it came to their religious beliefs and the aristocracy he was surrounded
with. Due to Voltaire s experiences in Paris with European Society, Candide showcases his contempt
for organized religion, noble rank, and optimist philosophy.
Candide, the illegitimate son of a Baron s sister, lives in the Baron s castle, studying under the
philosopher Pangloss. Pangloss teaches Candide his theory of optimism, keeping Candide innocent to
the world beyond the castle. He thinks that the castle is the best castle there is, and that everything
happens for a good reason, a belief that Pangloss has instilled in him. Cunégonde, the Baron s
daughter, has caught the eye of Candide, and when they are found in a compromising romantic
position, he is tossed out of the Castle. From there, Candide sets out on many adventures, most having
unfortunate ends, giving Candide a taste of the reality he never got from castle life and studying under
Pangloss. He first enlists as a soldier, but is soon flogged for being a deserter. He escapes to Holland
where he is taken in by a kind Anabaptist, and discovers Pangloss as a deformed beggar who has
contracted syphilis. As optimistic as ever, Pangloss informs Candide that the baron and his family,

Human Development And Identity Development
In the following essay I will be discussing two particular aspects of human development and behavior;
personality and identity. I will then demonstrate an understanding of two psychological theories which
can help understand influences on personality and identity development. Finally, I will look into
further detail at Holmes and Rahe and identity two life events which I can relate to the case study and
the impact it s had on the individual. There has been an ongoing debate within society for a long time
over the influences of nature vs nurture and which one has the more influential factor on behavior and
development. It is a clear fact that Human development and behavior is a complex interrelationship
between nature and nurture. Nature relates to the genes in which we inherit from our parents, it mainly
focuses on genetics and hereditary characteristics, such as eye colour, hair colour, or inheriting
illnesses. Nature can also be referred to as the genotype. Nurture relates to social circumstances, such
as our upbringing and lifestyle. It looks at the interaction between our genotype and environment.
Another term for nurture is known as the phenotype. An example of nature vs nurture can be a person
who has developed a hereditary diabetes from their parents. Although this has been passed on through
the influence of nature we can still use our nurture side to influence change, such as changing diet and
lifestyle habits to counteract the diabetes. Looking further into

Lifestyle that Leads to Obesity
Have you been sitting around lately, watching TV? Eating when you re bored? If so, you need to know
that these are just a couple examples of the many things that can lead to obesity. America is the most
obese country is what you would think and or did think, but that is wrong. America was the most
obese country, but in 2013, Mexico surpassed the U.S. and it is now the most obese country, having
roughly 32.8 percent of adults being overweight and one third being obese. America is in second
place, having 31.8 percent being obese. Mexican teenagers also are one third obese and the majority of
overweight Mexican teenagers will stay obese and be at risk for diseses. The average Mexican drinks
163 liters (46 gallons) per year, of soda; this is 40 percent more than the average American who drinks
118 liters, or 31 gallons. Mexicans consume an average of 650 cans a year of Coca Cola, which adds
up to a little over 200 liters (52 gallons). There is a small island in the south pacific though, called
Nauru, that has an obesity rate of 71.7 percent which is actually the most obese country in the whole
world. Now you re probably wondering why I m telling you that Mexico is the most overweight

Male And Female Characters In A Streetcar Named...
Male and female writers communicate differently as to how a character is portrayed. The way female
characters are depicted in short stories, poems, books, and essays all change depending on the writer.
The perspective changes due to how the writer sees things and how they relate to the character. Male
writers insinuate how a female character is depending on their view of the world and other females.
Female writers resemble the female characters they write about and how much they relate to their life
to the character. For example, the reader can compare A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee
Williams and A New England Nun by Mary E. Wilkins Freeman to see the difference in comparison of
female characters by writers of the opposite sex. The formal writing of males and females contradict
each other by way of contrasting views. A Streetcar Named Desire is written by a male by the name of
Tennessee Williams. His character Blanche DuBois struggles with many different circumstances
through out her life. One of those things being the fact that she found out her late husband was gay
and then committed suicide. This broke her heart and she resorted to lying about several things. She
would lie so much that when she stopped lying no one believed her any more and had determined she
had become mentally ill. By the end of the story her sister is sending her to a mental hospital where
she will end up dying. Williams constructs Blanche DuBois the way he believes women behave. He

The Effects of Cognitive Coaching on Education and in Supporting Teacher Leadership
Creating a profession of teaching in which teachers have the opportunity for continual learning is the
likeliest way to inspire greater achievement for children, especially those for whom education is the
only pathway to survival and success (Sumner, 2011, p. 10). Educators today are required to have a
different set of skills to effectively prepare students to be global competitors in the workplace.
Educators cannot make these alterations in teaching methodology and instructional delivery without
support. Coaches support and encourage teachers, improve teacher strategies, promote teacher
reflection, and focus on desired outcomes (Sumner, 2011). A key ... Show more content on

Cognitive Coaching Supporting Teacher Leadership
Cognitive coaching allows teachers to take ownership of their professional development by
encouraging them to be accountable of their cognitive learning process. The self reflection that is
involved in cognitive coaching coupled with professional vision enables teachers to become a catalyst
of change both in the classroom and beyond.
Patti amp; Holzer (2012) stated:
The coaching relationship provides a safe haven for mindful attention to self change in the areas of
self awareness, self management, social awareness, and relationship management. It is through this
individual process that the teacher and administrative leader positively impact the culture and climate

Online Consumer Behaviors And Social Networking
ABSTRACT
With businesses seeking to seize the momentum of social media and social networking, technology
enabled social commerce has emerged to combine the power of online social networking with
shopping. This study examines an emerging area in E commerce, i.e., social commerce. Extending the
online consumer behavior typology, this study categorizes online consumer behaviors into three types:
transactional, informational, and social. While traditional E commerce supports the transactional and
informational aspects of online shopping, social commerce fulfils the social aspects of shopping, and
potentially enhances the informational aspect as well. This research examines the online shopper as a
prospective user of an emerging social commerce platform, the social shopping website, which are
sites designed specifically to support social interactions while online consumers shop. The study
augments the Technology Acceptance Model with constructs that enhance the specificity of the model
to the social shopping application of social commerce. The model was empirically tested and
supported. The results provide empirical evidence to support the importance of distinguishing the
social aspect of shopping from the information and transactional aspects, as well as the potential
advantage to using technology to promote social interactions on E commerce sites. Implications and
future research are discussed. Keywords: E commerce, internet, shopping, social networking

Northern Colonies Vs South Colonies Essay
In the 1600s, England was eager to beat their long rival, Spain, to all of the rumored gold in North

major differences between the Northern colonies and the Southern colonies. The North was much
more diverse than the South because of its many job opportunities and attractive ideals that brought in
settlers from all over Europe. The Northern colonies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This lack of openings was caused by the South s main source of labor: slaves. In the south, the
geography was perfect for an agricultural economy; there was fertile soil, long growing seasons, and
deep rivers for easy transport of crops. The South s economy was based on the trade of cash crops
such as tobacco, and these cash crops were grown on large plantations. People who lived in the
southern colonies were all about making money, so that meant they did not want to waste any extra
expenses on paid labor. This caused them to turn to slave labor. In the South, almost everybody had
slaves, and the slaves were treated very badly. They did not need to be paid or given any rewards for
their work, so to the money hungry southern colonists, they were the perfect laborers. These slaves
caused a large problem for immigration though. Because all the jobs were taken by slaves, there were
no job openings for immigrants around Europe like there was in the South. The only people who could
prosper in the South were wealthy white men who could own plantations. The South also did not have
the bonus of having religious tolerance like the North; in fact they rarely focused on religion because
they were only interested in making money. Because of the lack of jobs, the South was not very

At the first level, the assumptions which would free this model from any shortcomings would be that there is only one IBM culture and that there is also a common worldwide occupational culture for each job (Hofstede 1980a: 181). What are these assumptions based on? [Tab.2] According to McSweeney (2002a: 96), these assumptions are too crude and implausible to underpin Hofstede s emphatic empirical claims . Following the thread of his argument we come across a situation where assuming that an IBM employee, whether in a developed USA head office or a new

In response to this argument, Hofstede acknowledges that considerable differences exist at the organizational level (1991: 93), yet it redefines the entire organizational culture as a mere set of shared perceptions of daily practices (1991: 182 3), therefore distancing from the early stage value based definition. According to McSweeney (2002b), this is only a failed attempt to deliver a straightforward concept and definition of organizational culture. • 4. The Issue of Mass Illegal Immigration to the United States Introduction America is deemed the land of the free and the home of the brave. The very fabric of this great nation was built upon immigrants from the Pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock to the millions of immigrants landing at Ellis Island. America is known as a melting pot of many different cultures and ethnic groups with roughly 11.7 million illegal immigrants living here. There has been a long standing love/hate relationship with the issue of immigration. It has long been debated as to whether or not we should continue to allow immigrant into our country so freely. Since the 1700 s the U.S. has been working on and has implemented policies try to restrict and govern the immigrants entering this country. Many immigrants come to America looking for a better way of life than what was destined for them in their native lands. Prior to the events of 9/11, for nearly two decades, America welcomed immigrations to our country with open arms. After 9/11, America s ideals begin to shift pertaining to immigrants, our nation s safety, and border patrol. America was left with great fear, post 9/11, and began to implement many changes in our border patrol and immigration laws. In response to record numbers of illegal border crossings and the security fears triggered by the 9/11 attacks, over the past two decades the United States has steadily increased its efforts to secure its borders against illegal immigration. • 5. Analysis Of Andrew And Mason s The Great Gatsby Over the next two days, Andrew and Mason found three more of the reels. One was hidden underneath the cushion of one of the chairs in the spare room that Mason found when the cushion fell off as he carried it down the hall and into the living room; Andrew was the one who tripped over the cushion and nearly cracked his head against the doorframe. They discovered the fourth one while trying to knock old cereal boxes off the top of the fridge with a broom instead of standing on the worn, slightly unstable counter. Andrew barely managed to catch the canister before it fell on Mason s foot. Judging by the amount of dust on the fifth one, it had rolled under the couch months before they moved in and decided to move it to the other side of the room. Mason nearly lost his balance and dropped his end of the couch on himself when he stepped on it and sent it spinning out from underneath his foot. By this point, Mason had had enough. This whole damn house is booby trapped with the stupid things! He ranted as Andrew calmly examined the canister for dents before placing it on the shelf with the others. It s like this house doesn t even want us here! You know that s not true, Mase. You re just having a run of bad luck, that s all, Andrew replied calmly as he admired the small collection gathering on the shelf. About a century ago, birth control in any form was illegal. As women s rights came to the forefront of American politics, women fought for the right to vote and gained the ability to use contraception and eventually get abortions. In 1921, The American Birth Control League formed ; this later became Planned Parenthood, and gained thirty thousand members in its first three years. This organization founded the first birth control clinic. In 1938, the US Circuit of Appeals decided a case that permitted physicians to give information about contraception to their patients. States could only enact abortion laws protecting the life of the fetus only in the third trimester, but exceptions must be made to protect the life of the mother. Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington fought the case on behalf of Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe) under the claim that the Texas law banning abortions violated Roe s constitutional rights to privacy (McBride, Roe v. Wade). The Supreme Court decided in Roe s favor in a 7 2 decision (Oyez, Roe v. Wade). The decision deemed marriage, contraception, and child rearing as part of a Constitution guaranteed zone of privacy from the 1st, 4th, 9th, and 14th amendments. This decision also deemed a woman s right to terminate her pregnancy as part of this zone of privacy. The opposition gave three justifications for banning abortions. The first was a Victorian like social concern to discourage illicit sexual conduct, the second to protect the life of the mother, and the third to protect prenatal life. The court rejected the first two reasons, and ruled that fetuses do not fit the definition of a person (McBride) The court also ruled that if a fetus is viable, then states may disallow abortions as long as the life of the mother is not at stake, and states may restrict abortions during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Forty six states were affected by this decision. In 1992, the United States Supreme Court ruled on the Casey v. Planned Parenthood case. While this case affirmed Roe. v Wade, it ... I selected the topic of young women in abusive marriages or marriage like relationships to see how and why women in abusive relationships cope. In the peer reviewed, scholarly article entitled, Young Woman s Experience of Coping with Violence in Intimate Relationships by Marina Ursa and Corinne Koehn, young women s coping mechanisms were analyzed and assessed against past research. Marina Ursa and Corinne Koehn analyzed interviews of five women ages 19 24, because this age group is the most common to experience abuse. Their goal was finding the differences and similarities in the decisions made in coping with abusive relationships before the women left their abusers. Numerous women have reported self soothing such as cheating on their abusers, substance abuse, and self harm as their coping mechanisms. Another common theme between prior research and this study is rationalizing the negative experiences and enjoying the positive experiences. Some woman s rationale was having a home to live in and financial support which is another topic we learned about in this unit. A key factor found was personal or spiritual beliefs such as God would never give them more than they could handle and karma would sort everything out. Many of them would wear their hair in small waves called marcels, named after the man who invented them, Marcel Greateau. However, the United States Constitution has always been silent on the issue of political parties; at the time it was signed in 1787, there were no parties in the nation. This led to the invention of voter based political parties in the 1790s (1). But, surprisingly enough, golf has too many biomechanics than I have time to explain. Everything interesting in golf happens in the span of about 1.5 seconds and everything that matters happens in half a millisecond. That s right, even though it takes 5 minutes for a golfer to setup for a shot, 0.004 seconds of those 5 minutes counts. Now don t get me wrong, I love golf. As the backswing starts, torque is being created as the golfer takes the club back and rotates in a clockwise direction. Unlike many other sports, a golf swing does not happen while the player is moving (unless you are happy Gilmore of course). A golfer will remain at a fixed point and rotate around an axis, which in this instance is around the centre of the chest. Torque can be calculated by multiplying the amount of force by the lever arm of the force. The lever arm of a golf swing is calculated by the perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation here to the line of action of the force here. As I explained earlier, the long shaft of the driver increases the length of the lever arm and, although more force is required to move the club, a greater amount of speed can be created. Adding to this, the larger the rotation away from the axis, the more angular acceleration can be created and a greater amount of torque is produced. This explains why many great drivers of the golf ball have large amounts of shoulder rotation as it allows them to create as much torque as possible, translating into larger amounts of angular acceleration and longer drives. Considering the average length of drives is increasing year by year, it s not hard to see why increased torque is vital for an advantage in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Gender Relations During The Jacobean Period Deconstructing Gender Relations Gender in the Jacobean Period was approached differently than gender in the 18th century. One can use the Jacobean period play Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare and the 18th century play The Beaux Stratagem by George Farquhar to examine gender relations during the two periods. The plays demonstrate how women were represented in society and what societal expectations were at the time. The way women navigated their own sexuality, finances, and power relation s improved noticeably from the Jacobean Period to the 18th century. During the Jacobean Period women were not allowed to preform in theatres; all of the players were men and boys (Spear 13). Because of the violent nature of theatres women didn t attend plays as Groundlings and few could afford to sit above in the covered seats above. The theatre was a place for corruption and immorality and women were looked down upon during the Jacobean Period for attending performances in playhouses around London. The theatre was a harsh place where audience members were tightly packed in. They would hiss, shout, and throw rotten vegetables at actors they disliked or applaud and clap for those they approved of (Spear 14). The play Measure for Measure shows the powerlessness of women during the Jacobean Period. The female characters in the play are helpless in determining their fates. The topic of municipalization might not seem at first glance like a vessel for heated scholarly debate; however, once one peels back the curtain, several lines of argument arise. Municipalization, in the classical sense, is the effective bringing into the fold of institutions and governments under the control of a larger body. The most pertinent aspects of Scott s study to the Tabula Heracleensis are censuses, standardization of weights and measurements, and the organization of trans regional transportation. These things are all mentioned in some form in the Tabula, and thus we must try and apply Scott s theory to it. Scott essentially believes that states cannot possibly understand the intricacies of social phenomena and any attempt at large scale standardization (or municipalization) is carried out through the coercive force of the state and will likely result in a negative social environment. This is shown best through the quote, Because local standards of measurement were tied to practical needs, because they reflected particular cropping patterns and agricultural technology, because they varied with climate and ecology, because they were an attribute of power and an instrument of asserting class privilege, and because they were at the center of bitter class struggle, they represented a mind boggling problem for statecraft. In a rather long winded way, Scott is asserting that governments often cannot account for the social, economic, and cultural methodologies that go in to a particular aspect of daily life. This will become key once applied to the Tabula. As for Edward Bispham s work From Asculum to Actium: The Municipalization of Italy from the Social War to Augustus, Bispham has a different take on Municipalization this time specifically ... Voltaire is known for his literary works mocking the time period he lived in, especially when it came to their religious beliefs and the aristocracy he was surrounded with. Due to Voltaire s experiences in Paris with European Society, Candide showcases his contempt for organized religion, noble rank, and optimist philosophy. Candide, the illegitimate son of a Baron s sister, lives in the Baron s castle, studying under the philosopher Pangloss. Pangloss teaches Candide his theory of optimism, keeping Candide innocent to the world beyond the castle. Finally, I will look into further detail at Holmes and Rahe and identity two life events which I can relate to the case study and the impact it s had on the individual. There has been an ongoing debate within society for a long time over the influences of nature vs nurture and which one has the more influential factor on behavior and development. It is a clear fact that Human development and behavior is a complex interrelationship between nature and nurture. Nature relates to the genes in which we inherit from our parents, it mainly focuses on genetics and hereditary characteristics, such as eye colour, hair colour, or inheriting illnesses. Nature can also be referred to as the genotype. Nurture relates to social circumstances, such as our upbringing and lifestyle. It looks at the interaction between our genotype and environment. Another term for nurture is known as the phenotype. An example of nature vs nurture can be a person who has developed a hereditary diabetes from their parents. Although this has been passed on through the influence of nature we can still use our nurture side to influence change, such as changing diet and lifestyle habits to counteract the diabetes. Online Consumer Behaviors And Social Networking ABSTRACT With businesses seeking to seize the momentum of social media and social networking, technology enabled social commerce has emerged to combine the power of online social networking with shopping. This study examines an emerging area in E commerce, i.e., social commerce. Extending the online consumer behavior typology, this study categorizes online consumer behaviors into three types: transactional, informational, and social. While traditional E commerce supports the transactional and informational aspects of online shopping, social commerce fulfils the social aspects of shopping, and potentially enhances the informational aspect as well. This research examines the online shopper as a prospective user of an emerging social commerce platform, the social shopping website, which are sites designed specifically to support social interactions while online consumers shop. The study augments the Technology Acceptance Model with constructs that enhance the specificity of the model to the social shopping application of social commerce. The model was empirically tested and supported. The results provide empirical evidence to support the importance of distinguishing the social aspect of shopping from the information and transactional aspects, as well as the potential advantage to using technology to promote social interactions on E commerce sites. In the south, the geography was perfect for an agricultural economy; there was fertile soil, long growing seasons, and deep rivers for easy transport of crops. People who lived in the southern colonies were all about making money, so that meant they did not want to waste any extra expenses on paid labor. This caused them to turn to slave labor. In the South, almost everybody had slaves, and the slaves were treated very badly. They did not need to be paid or given any rewards for their work, so to the money hungry southern colonists, they were the perfect laborers.
