Importance Of Software Solutions For The Decision Making...
The worldwide information landscape is changing rapidly due to innovation in technological
solutions. Technological solutions play a crucial role in decision–making through analysis of a
massive data or big data. The explosives changes in the supply and demand of the market require
firms to respond proactively and spontaneous. Accordingly, enterprises managers should be able to
collect, filter and analyze the enormous amount of data from many sources in real–time. Therefore,
organizations turned to use technologies for decision–making, solve the complex and challenging
business problems. The tools used to support decision–making has become very wide and filled with
the buzzwords. In this report, we will outline the connection between the two types of software
solutions that support the decision–making process; Decision Support Systems (DSS) and Business
Intelligence (BI).
In the early 1970s, it designed the first application of DSS to support business decisions as well as
intellectual resources for individuals to improve the quality of decisions with the computer 's ability
to solve the semi–structured problems. DSS is an information system used in decision–making,
imagine starting from the idea of support and some of the principles of interaction or active use, on
the basis of language and communication custom query, and often used the data or the exploitation
of database / data warehouse that help managers for solution their semi–structured problems. This

Solving Multi Criteria Decision Making Problems
There are several methods to solve multi–criteria decision–making problems. Analytic Hierarchy
Process (AHP) and Analytic Network Process (ANP) are two methods created by Tomas Saaty. AHP
endeavor to solve the decision making problem by formed it in a hierarchy while ANP is used when
the problem is so complex that cannot be formed as a hierarchy. This complexity happens because of
the effect of criteria between each other or the effect of alternatives on criteria. Generally we can say
The Analytic Network Process is a generalization of the Analytic Hierarchy Process. The ANP
approach can be comprises in to four steps [87]:
Step 1: Model construction and problem structuring: The problem should be stated clearly and
decomposed into a rational system like a network
Step 2: Pairwise comparisons and priority vectors: In ANP, like AHP, pairs of decision elements at
each cluster are compared with respect to their importance towards their control criteria.
Furthermore, interdependencies among criteria of a cluster must also be treated pairwise; thus the
influence of each element on other elements can be represented by an eigenvector. The relative
importance values are determined with Saaty's nine scales.
Step 3: Supermatrix structure: the Supermatrix concept is similar to the Markov chain process. To
obtain global priorities in a system with interdependent influences, the local priority vectors are
entered in the appropriate columns of a matrix. As a result, a supermatrix is

Abstract
This report is prepared in response to a need which arose from the personal decision to purchase a
new city car. In the following pages it will be attempted to answer burning questions regarding the
decision making in the presence of multiple and conflicting criteria. By the use of appropriate
techniques it will be illustrated the whole process of decision analysis taking into consideration
decision maker's belief and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This report analyses the whole process which is followed in order to make a personal decision
related with the buy a hatchback for city driving: from the identification and structuring of the
problem to the appraisal of the alternative solution (French et all, 2009,pp 81).
As it happens in any imminent decision regarding a purchase, an assiduous market research is
required. The brochures of the major automobile companies and the car web sites constitute the
main information source which will be used for the designation of the criteria and the elicitation of
their values. Due to the fact that the criteria which are taken into consideration are more than two,
Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis(MCDA) will be applied. The MCDA is supported by the use of
the IDS software. The data and its calculation as well as any output of IDS tool, are presented
explicitly in the respective appendices.
2. Methodology
As it is referred above, the objective of this problem is to take a decision concerning the purchase of
a new city car. For this reason, the article 'Best city cars' from the website carbuyer.co.uk (2014) is
very helpful as it provides the best ten city cars among which the final decision will be made. All
these city cars (alternatives) are available in different versions. Due to the limited budget
(9000pounds) the decision making is focused on the economical model, widely well–known as S
trim level. In this selection problem the car

Information Systems And Knowledge Management
Knowledge Management as per NASA can also be defined as getting the right information at the
right time without delay while helping people create knowledge and share and act upon information
in ways that will measurably improve the performance of NASA and its partners. A DSS has been
defined as an interactive and adaptable computer–based information system that supports non–
structured management problems. Information systems have been linked with Knowledge
Management systems to help in making more informed and scientific decisions. Knowledge
Management can be described as a practice of capturing tacit knowledge and converting it into
explicit knowledge through filtering, storing, retrieving and disseminating the same. Decision
support through knowledge management emanates from intelligent DSS (primarily based on
artificial intelligence and expert systems), and knowledge management and organizational learning.
Knowledge management based DSS evolved from the study of intelligent DSSs, which was founded
as an enhancement of personal DSSs through integration of theories from artificial intelligence and
expert systems. Data warehouse is usually a driver and an important component for a Data–driven
DSS. It is a copy of transaction data specifically structured for query and analysis and a component
to store data for a Data–driven DSS. Vast amount of data is stored in databases and other semi–
structured sources. They are then extracted from these homogeneous or heterogeneous

Decisions In The Book Lyddie, By Katherine Paterson
Decisions are something we face constantly every day, whether its choosing what to say, which way
to go, or even what your gonna eat. We all make decisions some can be hard and so simple. In the
book Lyddie written by Katherine Paterson it talks about a 13 year old girl named Lyddie who left
her home to go work at a tavern to pay off her father's debt. But soon after she got fired and went to
go work at a mill. The book takes place during the Industrial revolution. Most most of the story
takes place at the mill bur in some rare cases she goes home to visit. The story is important, and the
story is important because it talks about the struggle that was going on, and to teach in a fictional
way about the Industrial revolution. Now Lyddie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On page 100 it talks about Lyddie it says "She could not fall behind in her production . Else her pay
would drop..." So no matter how long the girls worked what matters is their production which is
how much material they make. So they could have been working for a full 24 hours and they could
still get little pay if they did not make much material. On page 139 Lyddie had just gotten back to
work because she was feeling better now it says "The money was going again. She had nearly
caught up with the wages lost by her less..." Lyddie had been ill so she could not work but once she
was well enough she was to, but she went at as lower pace because she was still kind of heeling, and
since she she was going at a slower pace she was not getting much money. On page 89 Lyddie was
starting to look harder and it says "she only had two looms to tend instead of the four she had during
the summer. She needed the money. She had to have the money." Lyddie was working twice as hard
in the summer and even worked for the same time it wouldn't matter because what she needed was
the cloth to get the money. Lyddie was working over hours for under pay and it's unfair for the
workers. That's why I feel that Lyddie should sign the petition for the pay of time instead of

The Road Not Taken Analysis
W.H. Auden's The Average and Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken both consider the choices that
determine the rest of one's life. Auden explores this concept through a young man's search for a
better future while Frost conversely shows it through a reflection on a past decision. The parents of
Auden's protagonist 'killed themselves with toil' in order to grant him the opportunity to discover a
profession that 'encourages shallow breathing' which puts immense pressure on the speaker to find a
career that guarantees their efforts were not futile as 'only a hero could deserve such love'. In
comparison, the subject of Frost's poem made his choice long ago and contemplates his decision
through a metaphorical branch in the woods which offered two paths, despite him 'looking down one
as far as [he] could' he elects to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The character within Auden's text is afraid, not because of his ambitious journey, but instead he
possesses a fear of failing the memory of his parents which he considers while being 'a hundred
miles from any decent town'. Even though he is 'without maps or supplies' and with the 'desert
glar[ing] into his blood–shot eyes' he is without fear of physical danger and is instead focused
entirely on the notion of possible failure. Similarly, Frost's text carries this sense of fear, the fear of
regret, while Frost's protagonist does not explicitly wish to change his original path simply stating
'that [it] had made all the difference' in the past he planned to 'ke[ep] the first for another day' which
indicates that he did intend to maintain his options yet eventually 'way leads on to way'. The
character reflects that in the future he 'shall be telling this with a sigh' which shows that he believes
this feeling will continue to exacerbate 'somewhere ages and ages

Decision Making In Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken
In Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken", we are constantly pounded with with the idea of making
choices. But what about choices does Frost want us to realize? After closely reading and analyzing
this piece of literature I think it's clear that Frost wants his readers to be more self dependant when it
comes to decision making. Taking the road less traveled by is how Frost illustrates this and as we
break down this piece of literature you will see that Frost makes his message very clear in his poem.
In the first stanza and line of the poem Frost immediately has exposed to us the choice at hand.
"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood."(Frost, #1). So we see this picture of two paths split into
seperate ways. Choosing which path to take is a very difficult decision for the traveler. He says he's
"sorry he could not travel both" (Frost, #2) making it clear that there is this dilemma for our
protagonist on choosing which way to go. In lines three and four the traveler says "long I stood/And
looked down one as far as I could."(Frost, #3&4) Frost perfectly paints this picture of the traveler
standing there arms crossed, looking down each path, and on his tippy toes trying to get the best
look possible at both paths ahead of him. In the second stanza the traveler finally makes a decision
and takes the other path. This is where the tone changes in the poem and we finally have this feeling
that the traveler made the right decision. "And having perhaps the better claim,/Because it was

Essay on Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken
The Road Not Taken: All the Difference
Each person must make many decisions in their lifetime. Some decisions are easy while others are
more difficult. The poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost is a first person narrative tale of a
monumental moment in Frost's life. Frost is faced between the choice of a moment and a lifetime.
Walking down a rural road the narrator encounters a point on his travel that diverges into two
separate similar paths. In Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken", Frost presents the idea of man
facing the difficult unalterable predilection of a moment and a lifetime. This idea in Frost's poem is
embodied in the fork in the road, the decision between the two paths, and the speaker's decision. ...

The speaker's sight is limited– his eyes can only see the path until it bends into "the undergrowth."
The author shows man's attempts to tell which path is better by trying to for see what they will
behold down the road. Both roads diverge into a "yellow wood" and appear to be "about the same"
in their purpose. The first of the two paths is the more common route than the other less traveled
path, which "wanted wear." Frost presents a classic conflict– the decision between the common easy
path and the exceptional challenging path. Choosing the already known easy path in life many
people frequently endure reassures that the outcome will be predictable. While choosing the "less
traveled" road represents the gamble of facing a more difficult path in life in hopes to achieve an
incomparable and satisfactory life, contrasting the more familiar lives other people take.
The road not taken delineates man's choice. After vacillating between the two "fair" roads, he finally
decides to take the road "less traveled by"; knowing he cannot see where it will lead. Traveling
down the second road, the speaker still yearns to travel both paths– he "keeps the first for another
day." As the narrator proceeds down the unworn path, he realizes there will be no way he can ever
return to the deviation to experience the other route. The speakers utters:
"Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back."

Existentialism: Existence Before Essence
Existence Before Essence: Existence before essence is the existential notion of a character creating
meaning for oneself. It is a part of existentialism because it centers around one's value of existence.
When Andy talks to Hadley atop the roof, he negotiates a deal with him to settle his issues
concerning a large sum of money. Andy also refers to his prison–mates as "coworkers", showing that
he feels they are his business companions. This demolishes the notion of them as a lower class
prisoner and elevates them to an equal plane of citizenship. Red amiably described, "for those
twenty minutes we felt like free men" (King 47). The beers that Andy earned for his coworkers
brought meaning into their hearts, and they felt free. Andy also felt accomplished because he
successfully brought his sense of purpose into Shawshank by helping out others. He finds his
meaning by improving other peoples' lives. A modern world example is how a firefighter will rush
into a burning building to save other people. They are finding meaning by saving others' lives.
Alienation:
Alienation refers to the prospect of isolation in existentialism. It is a part of existentialism because
for one to have an existential mindset, they must differ from the rest of the common thoughts and
formulate them on their own. This results in an unavoidable isolation from everybody else. Before
Andy asked Red for a rock–hammer, Red knew, "Andy had no cell–mate, and ... that was just the
way he wanted it" (King 27).

Why do you think choices important? Do you even think choices are important? Because I think
choices are important. Just stop and think, dont you wonder what it would be like without being able
to make your own choices for yourselves. You would be miserable right? You would never be happy
because it's something someone else wanted you to do not what you want to do. In the book The
Giver by Lois Lowry the kids get told what to do, they get told they cant tell lies, the recivers name
was Jonas and he couldnt tell his parents what he was doing while he was with the giver. The giver
made rules for him like one of them was he couldnt tell his parents anything he had to tell them lies,
another one was he couldnt take medicen for any illnesses. My reasons for why making choices is

What Is The Literary Elements Of The Road Not Taken
Difficult choices made in life may conflict with the future if we think, or make the wrong choice. In
the poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost the traveler is faced with a decision about which
road to take. In the literal sense the poem is about a person taking a walk through the woods;
however, metaphorically it explores a person's journey in life. Our decisions, especially important
ones, have a great effect on our future. Making difficult choices can take you down a different
pathway to success. Frost uses literary elements: imagery, point of view, and setting to create
meaning. Imagery, is one literary element Frost uses in the poem. For example, the speaker comes to
a halt when he notices that "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood" ... Show more content on

The setting, for instance, describes the two roads in the woods during an autumn morning "And both
that morning equally lay" (Frost). When using morning references, Frost eludes to a fresh start. Also
this shows, making a choice in the direction of life creates a new beginning. He uses the word
"equally" which is meaning he still cannot decide which path to choose. Thinking about choosing
the less traveled road, the speaker looks at the road and sees green lonely patches "Because it was
grassy and wanted wear" (Frost). In my mind the setting to me helps me imagine him in the woods
trying to clear his head when being trampled on by another choice or decision to make. The speaker
looks at his surrounding and choices to help decide which path to take, and if it's the right one. The
last literary element Frost was setting, to help the reader understand where and when it took

Choices with Regard to the Process of Consumption
Consumer choice refers to the decisions consumers make when considering the products and
services they want to purchase. Presently, in this post–industrial society, many analysts believe that
social strata in many parts of the world have led to the emergence of "consumer society" (Smart, B
2014). Reasons for this are because individuals are being portrayed as having a wide range of choice
as they are being presented with a wide range of products and services.
As Ellis at al. (2012) notes, privatization of production and distribution of goods and services have
expanded the way consumers can access them, and therefore, there are increased consumer choices.
However, there are arguments that in some cases, consumers have not been provided with adequate
positions to exercise their true choices on goods and services and therefore, which is leading them to
make passive choices in regards their process of consumption. Some arguments assert that
consumers are becoming more and more actively involved in their buying and consumption
processes, especially in this age when people are more enlightened.
Arguments for Active and Passive Consumption
The Concept of Number of Options

motivated when making choices individually. They refute the widely believed notion that people

Summary Of Slavery In Toni Morrison's Beloved
In the novel Beloved, written by Toni Morrison, the protagonist, Sethe, was placed in a situation of
life or death, for her daughter. She chose to kill her daughter for reasons such as slavery and
experiences she didn't want her daughter to have. Being a mother, there are going to be situations
where you can either help your child or have absolutely no choice but to let your child suffer. Sethe,
chose the decision of preventing her daughter from suffering by killing her, she chose the right
choice by protecting her daughter from the cruelty of slavery.
Sethe had a difficult choice when she forced herself to make a decision on whether to keep her
daughter alive and be taken into slavery, or kill her and prevent her from suffering from the same or
maybe more pain Sethe had in slavery. For example, when the novel Beloved states, "That's what
they came in there for. Held me down and took it." This piece of evidence exemplifies the way slave
owners could abuse you, and you couldn't do anything about it. The importance of this evidence is
that slavery wasn't something you could get away from when you're young, and Sethe killed her
daughter for a reason. Another piece of evidence from the text that talks about the horrible life of
slavery, "Schoolteacher made one open up my back, and when it closed it made a tree. It grows there
still." This example proclaims that they beat Sethe and this was only because she was a slave, they
left her a scar she would have for the rest of her

Critical Analysis Of Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken
Critical Analysis of Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken
The speaker in Robert Frost's 'The Road Not Taken' gives the reader insight into human nature with
each line of poetry. While, Frost had not originally intended for this to be an inspirational poem, line
by line, the speaker is encouraging each reader to seek out his or her own personal path in the
journey of life. Romanticizing the rural woods of New England creates the perfect setting for the
theme of self–discovery laid out and described by the speaker.
Robert Frost's original intent in writing the poem was not to convey the inspiration that it has for
almost a hundred years. He had written the poem to poke fun at his friend, Edward Thomas, with
whom he had taken many walks. Thomas was hesitant and always wondering what would happen if
he had chosen a different path (http://www.yoga.com/raw/readings/frost_road.html). In fact, Frost
sent the poem to his friend, then in France, and got the response, ?What are you trying to do with
me?? (http://www.libarts.sfasu.edu/Frost/PopPoems.html). However, Frost did see the impact the
poem was having and stated, 'Do not follow where the path may lead?Go instead where there is no
path and leave a trail.'
The speaker communicates many things in the first stanza of the poem. The first line, ?Two roads
diverged in a yellow wood,? uses imagery with the color yellow, the color of gold, to show that the
speaker sees an opportunity ahead of him. The two roads symbolizes the choices and consequences
he must choose. The next line, ?And sorry I could not travel both,? illustrates how difficult it is to
make a choice. It is impossible not to wonder what could happen by choosing the other road and
what he could be missing out on. ?And being one traveler long I stood,? shows how the speaker
would like to be in two places at once. Unable to accomplish this, he takes a long time to decide on
what he should do. Finally, the speaker describes studying the first option, looking as far into the
future as he possibly could with the lines, ?And looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in
the undergrowth.?
The speaker continues to convey his message in the second stanza of ?The Road Not Taken.? In the
opening line of this

Thank You MaAm Analysis
In "Thank You Ma'am" written by Langston Hughes, a young boy by the name of Roger attempts to
steal the purse of a woman of the streets. Roger's growth was greatly impacted through the teachings
of Ms. Luella Bates Washington Jones, about choice, trust, and about honesty. As Roger is caught he
learns a valuable lesson from the compassionate woman who treats him with kindness rather than
reporting him to the police. If a person who was nearly robbed caught the thief they would not have
been so kind as to do the things the Ms. Jones did for her robber. Every life decision made is a
choice, people choose to go one way or another. Roger chose to steal the purse of the women on
street. He chose to put himself in a situation that could potentially end badly. After his encounter he
did not expect to receive the kindness that he did from the women.
The first lesson that Mrs. Jones teaches Roger is that stealing her purse was a choice that he made. It
was a choice that was going to have consequences. His choosing to steal her purse was her
opportunity to teach him that every choice we make has negative and positive effects. She tells him
that it was his choice to put himself in contact with her, and that the contact was not going to be
something that he got away with. In this scene Roger is brought home to Mrs. Jones' house where
she made him wash his face and fed him. When Roger is asked to wash his face, he chooses to do as

Analysis Of The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost
"The Road Not Taken" is a poem by Robert Frost that was written as a narrative based on him and
his friend, Thomas Edward. Frost and Edward would take long walks together in the woods in
England. There were always complaints at the end of their walks that they should have taken a
different path. This inspired Frost to write this poem. It talks about great importance in our everyday
lives and further suggests that any choice a person makes in life, how small it may seem at first, will
always have some sort of impact on an individual in the future. The start of the poem is focused on a
road divided. However, the conflict arises with the fact that the poet himself cannot be divided to
take both paths. He is looking down a fork in the road. And as he is lost in thought as gazes down
the two roads that look very similar in appearance, he understands that the choice that is made could
potentially change his life. The "two roads diverged in a yellow wood" is an extended metaphor that
represents the decisions that we are faced with every day. This first stanza is also a metaphor
signifying that while we are free to choose things in life, we sometimes may not know what we are
choosing between. The poem describes an emblematic impasse that many may face, both factually
and symbolically. There are several forks in the road; those that force us one to make choices and
decisions that will determine ones fate. It provides a view into the obstacles that are encountered in
life and

Analysis Of Albert Camus 's Speech
People choose every day in different circumstances and degrees either small imperceptible one, such
as the color of the shirt that they will wear, or huge emotional and moral dilemmas like an abort or a
high–risk surgery. Nonetheless, there is always a decision made that has its consequences (want or
not). Albert Camus uses characterization to address the importance of choices. The author uses the
character of Balducci to show what happens when people follow the rules without hesitation. For
example, when Balducci arrives into the school to leave the Arab with Daru, and Daru shows
himself discontent with that unforeseen problem, he says, "Those are the orders" (Camus). Balducci
as a man of law must follow whatever thing is said to him, and he will do it for sure without dubiety;
in addition, Balducci remarks, "[Y]ou must sign, that 's the rule" (Camus). He has to obey all the
requisites and commandments that his work dictates, and he can't avoid doing this because he will
break all the goodness that justice represents. Nevertheless, Camus tries to point out if a person who
only follow a guide or manual for every decision he or she made. That person is, in fact, making no
choices, and he or she does not have to face and think about what is right or wrong because that
person will search and do whatever is said in that guide. Particularly, in this story, Balducci notes,
"You don 't get used to putting a rope on a man even after years of it..." (Camus). Even though he

Why I Am My Freedom At The Time Is Truly Freedom, Or...
Millions of choices ripple through our lives daily bringing overwhelming possibilities to endless
paths. Each of these trifling choices brings us to who we are today. But, it only takes one minimal
choice to halt our future and steer us spiraling in a different direction. It's with this ONE choice that
years later led me to What Ifs? and regrets, and made me question whether my freedom at the time
was truly freedom, or constraint. From a very young age, I was raised around horses. Through
generations of Andersons' riding was a given, a family trait, however, riding was never that
important to me. I was taught to ride when I was just six years old and started competing when I was
ten. I spent countless afternoons training after school, trotting and cantering around the horse track
or down riding trails. For a while riding, was liberating, a release from the outside world, but as I
turned fourteen riding became something that only squandered my free time. For months I made
excuses, or lied about going to the stables. I did not know how to tell my Mom that I no longer
shared her love for riding, it meant too much to her, to my family, but I was sick of spending my free
time doing something I no longer enjoyed. Eventually my Mom caught on to my tricks, yet her
response was unexpected. She was calm and collected and allowed me to quit on a whim. It was not
till years later that I realized that maybe the freedom she gave me to make my own choice,

Choosing a career might be considered one of the most important decisions in an individual's life.
The type of career people choose often paves the way for most of their opportunities and certainly
has a direct impact in their self–identity. It has been recorded over the years, that gender roles and
stereotypes have a direct influence when it comes to career decision making. For example; most

Summary: A Career In Welding Career
Would you rather do what you love for the rest of your life and make pennies, or go to work
miserable for the rest of your life and be a millionaire? For most people that's an easy choice, but for
others it's not so easy due to the cost of living today. A career in welding is the happy medium to me
because welders make decent money and although it is a craft that takes a good amount of skill to
master. But it's also not too difficult either. I would get into a career in welding because of the job
security, job advancements, educational requirements, and travel opportunities. The future of
welding looks great it is expected to grow 4% from 2014 to 2024. The bureau of labor statistics

Today there are many new inventions to make welders job easier, such as a welding stand that has
many different vise grips so you can adjust your position of welding(www.thefabricator.com).
Advanced welding processes offer increased puddle control, and it helps welders that are less
experienced get nicer welds. The new style offers a wider operation window which helps welders
weld in many different positions without compromising the structure of the
weld(www.thefabricator.com). With the new machines and techniques that people are starting to use
it will help the welders that just started to have nicer welds. One of the many great things about
going into a career in welding is that after high school you can go straight to work. The minimum
educational requirement for a welder is either a GED or a high school diploma. That's right! You
don't have to go to college for 9 years after high school. The one thing you can do is go to trade
school so you can have more experience before just jumping into the field. This career is perfect for

Character Analysis: A Road Not Taken
How do the choices we make form our identity? 10/7/17 Word Count: 698
The choices that we make can determine who you are, who you want to be as a person and how
people think of you. It can change your life at some point. Every choice, big or small, will influence
or affect another person. It is inevitable to avoid. In Robert Frost's poem "A Road Not Taken" the
author is describing hard choices and how those choices define who you are as a human being. Frost
concludes, "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,/ I took the one less traveled by,/ And that has
made all the difference" (Frost). In that statement, Frost shows that choosing the road less traveled
by shapes the individual into a role model who makes hard choices and is a free thinker who is
leading people through a new path. In "A Long Walk To Water" by Linda Sue Park, the protagonist,
Salva Mawien Dut Ariik, is taking the road less traveled by being brave in the face of danger and
war, remaining loyal to his Dinka community and family, while still being friendly to the people
around him in the war zone. All these are examples contribute to how choices shape who we are
today.

After that, he created even more movies with Madea in it. My point that I am trying to get across is
that Perry made a choice to keep trying to make his dream come true without becoming a bitter

John Proctor's Character In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
Every day, we make choices that impact our future. They decide where we go, who we meet and
how other people view us. Each choice that we make pushes towards the supposedly right or wrong
path, but the biggest question is how to decide which way we're going. In the search for what's right,
the lines can become blurred into an adamant certainty that what's wrong is right and vice versa. In
Arthur Miller's The Crucible, the characters find out first hand. After a regretful mistake, John
Proctor is desperate to hold on to his ideals and values that make him a good man, but the hysteria
of moments confuse everyone's perspective on good and evil. Miller uses John Proctor's character to
demonstrate to the audience how easily affected even the strongest ... Show more content on

What the readers begin to see as a strong quality slowly transforms into a flaw. Right off the bat, he
was introduced as "the kind of man– powerful of body, even–tempered, and not easily led (Miller
18)" so that the audience could immediately recognize his position in their community. Strong and
even tempered, he could not be persuaded to do something he did not believe in, although some
have tried. One attempt being Abigail Williams. Previous to the start of the story, Abigail had a brief
lasting affair with the so honorable Proctor. The affair didn't last however and she was kicked out
the door by his less than joyous wife, Elizabeth. When the witch hunt has barely begun, Abigail tells
Proctor that "I saw your face when she put me out, and you loved me then and you do now! (Miller
20)". The subtle manipulation that Abigail uses to win that man back fails due to his being not
"easily led". His actions in ending the affair was reasonable by his part, but led the town into a
spiraling muck up of terror. Proctor's honourable decision went haywire when the act against Abigail
fueled her motive to get rid of Elizabeth. Although

Reflective Essay– Ethical Dilemma and Decision Making When asked to reflect on an ethical

As people always say, "Hindsight is 20/20", but if we would look forward in time and plan instead
of making gut decisions, making better decisions and choices would definitely be easier to do.
Robert Frost said it best in his poem, "The Road Not Taken", when he said, "Then took the other, as
just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim" (Frost). This shows that when Frost got to a fork in
the road, he sat down and evaluated both options before making a selection. He looked at the path
on the left and then the path on the right so he would know exactly which choice to make and how
that choice would work for him. This applies to everybody. When there is a big choice to be made,
we need to evaluate every option and then look into the future to see how the options will benefit us
later. If at the time a choice seems perfect, but there is no future benefit, why make that choice? If
everybody has a common goal to be the best person that they can be and to be as successful as they
can in life, the choice that is made needs to be a thirty day or thirty year decision, not a thirty second
decision. Choice is defined as "the act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or
more possibilities". Choices are not optional. We do not even know we are making a choice most of
the time. Every second we make a choice. We make a choice of what to look at, listen to, or even

The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost Analysis
Life is difficult because no one can be sure if the choice they make will actually lead the outcome
they wished for. "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, one of the most recognizable poems in
American literature, speaks to choices people face in their life. The speaker has to make a right
choice for him, that will lead to the outcome of being what he really wants to be. "The Road Not
Taken" by Robert Frost uses symbolism, imagery, personification, and metaphor, to explain its
theme that choices made by the one's strong wish of what one really wants to be, will ultimately lead
to the desired outcome. The poem uses symbols to indicate the choices that the speaker faces in life.
The two diverged road symbolize the two significant choices that diverge the future of speaker's life.
The fork in the road indicates the point in the speaker's life where he can go no farther without
making a decision that takes him down one path and does not allow him to take the other. The
"yellow wood" (1) indicates fall when the leaves turn yellow in the forest. Fall is a symbol of the
waning years of speaker's life, meaning that the speaker is past his youth when he can make a choice
with the confidence that it is correctable at a later time. Therefore, the choice that he will make is
permanent and highly impacts the rest of his life. Imagery and personification are used to describe
contradiction in the process of making a decision between the two paths. Since he cannot take both
roads, the speaker looks down the road but cannot see beyond the undergrowth, which expresses the
fact that no one knows what the future will bring. Much of the imagery in the poem is visual to
describe the path to show the speaker's indecisiveness of choosing a certain path. He wants to
choose the path that is less traveled so he chooses the path that is " having perhaps the better claim"
(7), which is the path that is "grassy and wanted wear"(8), a personification to describe that road is
not stepped by other people. However, he realizes that there is no appreciable difference between the
two paths because "both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black."(11,12) The
contradiction with the serious tone shows perplexity that the

Themes In Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken
THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken, is a poem, or even a tale many
readers will relate to. It is a narrative of the choices in life and the crossroads in which the individual
is faced with. In the lines, there is quite clarity in the decisions and feelings of Frost throughout. His
use of imagery to paint beautiful landscapes and countless sub–thoughts is extraordinary, yet he
does it with such few words. Although one could see this poem for how it reads and view the story
of a solemn traveler pacing down a road, when diving deep into its actual text one sees that Frost is
trying to paint a much deeper picture. This metaphor of a poem is written a way that anybody who
reads it can understand and relate. From each of the simple lines to the groupings of intricately
placed words, this work of art brings out the meaning and passion in a well lived life. In the first
stanza the setting is laid out before us. A fork in the road in the middle of a yellow wood. These two
paths are unknown to the solemn traveler. The first line in the poem states "yellow wood," which
gives the feeling that it would be more of an autumn season. The autumn season is the beginning of
dormancy in the forest life. It also signals the nearing end of another joyous year. In life we have
cycles just like the seasons cycle. Periods of new growth such as spring or a new relationship
perhaps. Summer, where we are enjoying the things we have to the fullest. There is fall, when
something nears to an end such as a vacation, the ending of the year or maybe childhood when one
must think about getting out in the world. Then, there is winter: the darker portion of the cycle of
life. The point in which we are waiting for the new to begin or praying for the hurt to subside.
This cycle of life, and particularly the season of autumn, seems to pair up with the fork in the road
or the point where the traveler is ending this stretch of road and must embark upon a new path. Just
as it is in life when one period begins to draw to an end we must begin to think of the next set of
choices or paths to take. Most options in life do not allow for someone to have both. Just as the
traveler we, too, must choose a path for ourselves.

Theme Of Choices In A Rose For Emily And Hills Like White...
In life, everyone has choices that can determine their future. There are always two choices in life,
one that will leave people not regretting their decision and another that will always make an
individual second guess the choice they made. Choices do not just happen to real people they can
also happen to characters in pieces of literature. In every story, short or long, the reader gets an
understanding of the characters and the situation(s) they are in. In "A Rose for Emily" and "Hills
like White Elephants" the characters in these stories the characters make decisions that change their
lives. The author conveys the theme of choices can take people's lives in different directions by
using symbolism, imagery, and oppression of women. Faulkner, the author of " A Rose for Emily"
uses symbolism through the entire story to help convey the theme. An example of symbolism would
be Emily Garrison's house. The house is a very old pre–civil war house which during the time
Emily's father was alive it was a very nice and prestigious house. Her house helps the development
of the theme by being a symbol for an older generation. Emily Garrison is stuck in the past and does
not want to accept that times have changed and her house is a good representation of that. Her house
never changes and it never does in the story because Emily makes the choice to not go on with the
times which helps allude to the theme. In the story "Hills like White Elephants" by author also uses
symbolism. The

If given a choice would someone choose Frosted Flakes or Cheerios for breakfast? Young children

An opportunity to go to college is not a guaranteed venture. It is an opportunity to further one's
education and live a more stable lifestyle. Also, it is a road that may lead to any number of
possibilities in careers and life. An example of this is, hypothetically a student makes a choice to
take the path to college and becomes an engineer. She starts her first job which likely does not pay
well but is a good start. She meets someone she loves and begins a relationship with this person, and
they get married. Soon after marriage she receives a job offer from a well–known manufacturer to
be the head engineer in the company. She takes the job along with the high paying salary. The only
catch is she must move to the plant's location. After many years, she retires with a substantial
amount of money and lives in luxury. What would be her opportunities and possibilities if she did
not make that choice to go to college? While this one choice does affect all aspects of her life, it
does have a significant impact. Along the way, she made many other decisions. She made a choice
to study for her tests and not fail out of college. She also made a decision to get up and work hard
every day to enable her to move up in the ranks in her career field. These options are opportunities
and possibilities, as are many that she makes daily. Unlike the the women from "Arranged

The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost
Have you ever stopped and asked yourself "Did I make the right decision in my life?"? Most would
answer yes to this question. Although some, would hide behind pride and rant on about their
triumphs, or how they made just enough right choices to justify all the wrong. However, those same
people lay awake when the morning dew is fresh, still counting the ways they may have been able to
do better in the choices they made many years ago. Either way, if you admit it now or in the wee
hours of the night, like most people, you will come across this question at least once in your life.
Robert Frost was able to grasp this raw, vulnerable life changing moment in the palm of his hand.
Then he beautifully laid it out in the form of words in the narrative poem "The Road Not Taken".
Frost is able to take you back to a time when you have been faced with a life–changing decision.
Then, causing you to ask yourself "Did I make the right choice?", "What caused me to choose the
way I did?", and "How did my choices long ago affect my life today?". This is more than a poem,
but rather a meaningful life lesson.
By using metaphors Frost is able to show his readers a time of having to decide between two major
life events. Thus, relating to his readers on a more personal level. He does this by speaking of a
traveler coming to a fork in the road of a wooded area. Right from the beginning you can tell how
the traveler is curious of both roads set out before him. He looks at one long and hard as far as

Analytic Hierarchy Process And Analytic Network Process Essay
Analytic Hierarchy Process and Analytic Network Process
To
obtain global priorities in a system with interdependent influences, the local priority vectors are
entered in the appropriate

Mr Nobody Themes
The film Mr. Nobody directed by Jaco Van Dormael is unlike most movies showed in hollywood

life and choices made of the movies protagonist Nemo Nobody. Postmodernism is a cultural
movement that is drifting away from its former art, literature, cinema, and architecture once used in
a modernist era. One of the main themes portrayed in this film is that of fragmentation.
Fragmentation is constantly shown throughout this film by the anarchy and chaos the director chose

Hamlet Bad Choices
Choices are the decisions we make in life, some are good others are bad. Choosing a bad decision
can affect families mentally, financially and emotionally. Bad choices always have consequences. A
persons emotions can alter them into making terrible choices. Sometimes there is not a choice that is
positive. Some people have choices that require sacrifice in order to survive. People will have
regrets if they make the wrong decision. Choices are decided by the emotional state our brains are
in.
Our emotions are hardwired into our brains that affect our morals and decisions. Our emotions will
sometimes make decisions for us. If our emotions are altered it will create impulsive or irrational
decisions. For example in the play "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare, Hamlet is emotionally
unstable and is angry with his mother because she does not value the death of his father. At the
moment Polonius yells for help behind the drapes for him Hamlet stabs him thinking it was
Claudius. Hamlet used his anger to make a decision, to either kill the person behind the drapes,
assumably Claudius. Or making the right choice and and discovering who is behind the drapes; if it
was Claudius then killing him. This demonstrates the role emotions play in for deciding our choices.
But what happens if there is not a right choice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Multi-Alternative Decision Making
Introduction Some economists assume that people make a choice according to the principle of value
maximisation and the ordering of the options is independent of the context. However, there are
anomalies of decision making suggesting that the context matters. The three basic anomalies are the
similarity effect (Tversky, 1972), the attraction effect (Huber, Payne and Puto, 1982) and the
compromise effect (Simonson, 1989). Theorists have tried explaining these effects by various
approaches. For example, the multi–alternative decision field theory (Roe, Busemeyer and
Townsend, 2001) can explain all the three effects. In addition, Tversky (1972) applied the
elimination by aspects model to illustrate the similarity effect and Tversky and Simonson (1993)
introduced a componential context model to explain the attraction and compromise effects. The next
section reviews the three anomalies of multi–alternative decision making. Then we illustrate how
the three theories mentioned above explain the anomalies. After that, the decision field theory is
compared with the other two models respectively. Three context effects in decision making In real
life, we may make choices among various options with a large number of attributes. For simplicity,
we use five options with only two attributes to demonstrate the three anomalies as Figure 1 shows.

motivation factor and satisfaction with choice is not unexpected. This is because serious shortfall
may exist if there is a mismatch between the learning satisfactions with career motivation. The
consequence is truancy, poor grade and dropout, in turn, the lower satisfaction with the decision

Road Not Taken Personification
"The Road Not Taken" There are times in everyone's life when they come to a point that they must
make a decision which could affect the rest of their days. In Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not
Taken" two roads divide into the woods, and he must debate on which path to take. Symbolism is
represented when the voice talks about the fork in the road. This fork represents our choices and the
path seems to be the result of those choices. As he makes up his mind about the path he is going to
take, he wonders what it would have been like to go down the other path. Although one of the paths
has a curve in it, both paths show evidence of having been taken. The element of personification is
present when we read the speaker telling of the beautiful lush grass that wanted wear. The yellow
leaves of the woods describe autumn. The element of antithesis is present as we see the author
expressing his desire to travel both paths ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as there are rewards for taking the right path, there can also be consequences for going the
wrong way. This can be your conscious speaking to you. We all have that quiet small voice that will
guide us if we tap into it. The most important thing would be to take action over simply just thinking
about it. It is often said, actions speak louder than words. Not taking the right road could cause
someone to be discouraged or regretful.
Is there truly a right path and a wrong path or is this really all about the choices that we are forced to
make? We are given the opportunity to make choices and our inner being helps to guide us. We have
the desire to do the right thing and go the right way. Is this path he speaks of actually all about the
choices we make? Some choices may not be right or wrong but some could be better than others. We

Importance Of Software Solutions For The Decision Making...

  • 1. Importance Of Software Solutions For The Decision Making... The worldwide information landscape is changing rapidly due to innovation in technological solutions. Technological solutions play a crucial role in decision–making through analysis of a massive data or big data. The explosives changes in the supply and demand of the market require firms to respond proactively and spontaneous. Accordingly, enterprises managers should be able to collect, filter and analyze the enormous amount of data from many sources in real–time. Therefore, organizations turned to use technologies for decision–making, solve the complex and challenging business problems. The tools used to support decision–making has become very wide and filled with the buzzwords. In this report, we will outline the connection between the two types of software solutions that support the decision–making process; Decision Support Systems (DSS) and Business Intelligence (BI). In the early 1970s, it designed the first application of DSS to support business decisions as well as intellectual resources for individuals to improve the quality of decisions with the computer 's ability to solve the semi–structured problems. DSS is an information system used in decision–making, imagine starting from the idea of support and some of the principles of interaction or active use, on the basis of language and communication custom query, and often used the data or the exploitation of database / data warehouse that help managers for solution their semi–structured problems. • 5. Solving Multi Criteria Decision Making Problems There are several methods to solve multi–criteria decision–making problems. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Analytic Network Process (ANP) are two methods created by Tomas Saaty. AHP endeavor to solve the decision making problem by formed it in a hierarchy while ANP is used when the problem is so complex that cannot be formed as a hierarchy. This complexity happens because of the effect of criteria between each other or the effect of alternatives on criteria. Generally we can say The Analytic Network Process is a generalization of the Analytic Hierarchy Process. The ANP approach can be comprises in to four steps [87]: Step 1: Model construction and problem structuring: The problem should be stated clearly and decomposed into a rational system like a network Step 2: Pairwise comparisons and priority vectors: In ANP, like AHP, pairs of decision elements at each cluster are compared with respect to their importance towards their control criteria. Furthermore, interdependencies among criteria of a cluster must also be treated pairwise; thus the influence of each element on other elements can be represented by an eigenvector. The relative importance values are determined with Saaty's nine scales. Step 3: Supermatrix structure: the Supermatrix concept is similar to the Markov chain process. To obtain global priorities in a system with interdependent influences, the local priority vectors are entered in the appropriate columns of a matrix. As a result, a supermatrix is ... Personal Decision For Purchase A New City Car UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER MANCHESTER BUSINESS SCHOOL MANAGERIAL REPORT PREPARED FOR 9551251 PREPARED BY 9551251 20/03/2015 Abstract This report is prepared in response to a need which arose from the personal decision to purchase a new city car. In the following pages it will be attempted to answer burning questions regarding the decision making in the presence of multiple and conflicting criteria. By the use of appropriate techniques it will be illustrated the whole process of decision analysis taking into consideration decision maker's belief and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This report analyses the whole process which is followed in order to make a personal decision related with the buy a hatchback for city driving: from the identification and structuring of the problem to the appraisal of the alternative solution (French et all, 2009,pp 81). As it happens in any imminent decision regarding a purchase, an assiduous market research is required. The brochures of the major automobile companies and the car web sites constitute the main information source which will be used for the designation of the criteria and the elicitation of their values. Due to the fact that the criteria which are taken into consideration are more than two, Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis(MCDA) will be applied. The MCDA is supported by the use of the IDS software. The data and its calculation as well as any output of IDS tool, are presented explicitly in the respective appendices. 2. Methodology As it is referred above, the objective of this problem is to take a decision concerning the purchase of a new city car. For this reason, the article 'Best city cars' from the website carbuyer.co.uk (2014) is very helpful as it provides the best ten city cars among which the final decision will be made. All these city cars (alternatives) are available in different versions. Due to the limited budget

  • 14. Information Systems And Knowledge Management Knowledge Management as per NASA can also be defined as getting the right information at the right time without delay while helping people create knowledge and share and act upon information in ways that will measurably improve the performance of NASA and its partners. A DSS has been defined as an interactive and adaptable computer–based information system that supports non– structured management problems. Information systems have been linked with Knowledge Management systems to help in making more informed and scientific decisions. Knowledge Management can be described as a practice of capturing tacit knowledge and converting it into explicit knowledge through filtering, storing, retrieving and disseminating the same. Decision support through knowledge management emanates from intelligent DSS (primarily based on artificial intelligence and expert systems), and knowledge management and organizational learning. Knowledge management based DSS evolved from the study of intelligent DSSs, which was founded as an enhancement of personal DSSs through integration of theories from artificial intelligence and expert systems. Data warehouse is usually a driver and an important component for a Data–driven DSS. It is a copy of transaction data specifically structured for query and analysis and a component to store data for a Data–driven DSS. Vast amount of data is stored in databases and other semi– structured sources. They are then extracted from these homogeneous or heterogeneous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Decisions In The Book Lyddie, By Katherine Paterson Decisions are something we face constantly every day, whether its choosing what to say, which way to go, or even what your gonna eat. We all make decisions some can be hard and so simple. In the book Lyddie written by Katherine Paterson it talks about a 13 year old girl named Lyddie who left her home to go work at a tavern to pay off her father's debt. But soon after she got fired and went to go work at a mill. The book takes place during the Industrial revolution. Most most of the story takes place at the mill bur in some rare cases she goes home to visit. The story is important, and the story is important because it talks about the struggle that was going on, and to teach in a fictional way about the Industrial revolution. Now Lyddie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On page 100 it talks about Lyddie it says "She could not fall behind in her production . Else her pay would drop..." So no matter how long the girls worked what matters is their production which is how much material they make. So they could have been working for a full 24 hours and they could still get little pay if they did not make much material. On page 139 Lyddie had just gotten back to work because she was feeling better now it says "The money was going again. She had nearly caught up with the wages lost by her less..." Lyddie had been ill so she could not work but once she was well enough she was to, but she went at as lower pace because she was still kind of heeling, and since she she was going at a slower pace she was not getting much money. On page 89 Lyddie was starting to look harder and it says "she only had two looms to tend instead of the four she had during the summer. She needed the money. She had to have the money." Lyddie was working twice as hard in the summer and even worked for the same time it wouldn't matter because what she needed was the cloth to get the money. Lyddie was working over hours for under pay and it's unfair for the workers. That's why I feel that Lyddie should sign the petition for the pay of time instead of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Road Not Taken Analysis W.H. Auden's The Average and Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken both consider the choices that determine the rest of one's life. Auden explores this concept through a young man's search for a better future while Frost conversely shows it through a reflection on a past decision. The parents of Auden's protagonist 'killed themselves with toil' in order to grant him the opportunity to discover a profession that 'encourages shallow breathing' which puts immense pressure on the speaker to find a career that guarantees their efforts were not futile as 'only a hero could deserve such love'. In comparison, the subject of Frost's poem made his choice long ago and contemplates his decision through a metaphorical branch in the woods which offered two paths, despite him 'looking down one as far as [he] could' he elects to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The character within Auden's text is afraid, not because of his ambitious journey, but instead he possesses a fear of failing the memory of his parents which he considers while being 'a hundred miles from any decent town'. Even though he is 'without maps or supplies' and with the 'desert glar[ing] into his blood–shot eyes' he is without fear of physical danger and is instead focused entirely on the notion of possible failure. Similarly, Frost's text carries this sense of fear, the fear of regret, while Frost's protagonist does not explicitly wish to change his original path simply stating 'that [it] had made all the difference' in the past he planned to 'ke[ep] the first for another day' which indicates that he did intend to maintain his options yet eventually 'way leads on to way'. The character reflects that in the future he 'shall be telling this with a sigh' which shows that he believes this feeling will continue to exacerbate 'somewhere ages and ages ... • 26. Decision Making In Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken In Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken", we are constantly pounded with with the idea of making choices. But what about choices does Frost want us to realize? After closely reading and analyzing this piece of literature I think it's clear that Frost wants his readers to be more self dependant when it comes to decision making. Taking the road less traveled by is how Frost illustrates this and as we break down this piece of literature you will see that Frost makes his message very clear in his poem. In the first stanza and line of the poem Frost immediately has exposed to us the choice at hand. "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood."(Frost, #1). So we see this picture of two paths split into seperate ways. Choosing which path to take is a very difficult decision for the traveler. He says he's "sorry he could not travel both" (Frost, #2) making it clear that there is this dilemma for our protagonist on choosing which way to go. In lines three and four the traveler says "long I stood/And looked down one as far as I could."(Frost, #3&4) Frost perfectly paints this picture of the traveler standing there arms crossed, looking down each path, and on his tippy toes trying to get the best look possible at both paths ahead of him. In the second stanza the traveler finally makes a decision and takes the other path. This is where the tone changes in the poem and we finally have this feeling that the traveler made the right decision. "And having perhaps the better claim,/Because it was ... • 30. Essay on Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken The Road Not Taken: All the Difference Each person must make many decisions in their lifetime. Some decisions are easy while others are more difficult. The poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost is a first person narrative tale of a monumental moment in Frost's life. Frost is faced between the choice of a moment and a lifetime. Walking down a rural road the narrator encounters a point on his travel that diverges into two separate similar paths. In Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken", Frost presents the idea of man facing the difficult unalterable predilection of a moment and a lifetime. This idea in Frost's poem is embodied in the fork in the road, the decision between the two paths, and the speaker's decision. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker's sight is limited– his eyes can only see the path until it bends into "the undergrowth." The author shows man's attempts to tell which path is better by trying to for see what they will behold down the road. Both roads diverge into a "yellow wood" and appear to be "about the same" in their purpose. The first of the two paths is the more common route than the other less traveled path, which "wanted wear." Frost presents a classic conflict– the decision between the common easy path and the exceptional challenging path. Choosing the already known easy path in life many people frequently endure reassures that the outcome will be predictable. While choosing the "less traveled" road represents the gamble of facing a more difficult path in life in hopes to achieve an incomparable and satisfactory life, contrasting the more familiar lives other people take. The road not taken delineates man's choice. After vacillating between the two "fair" roads, he finally decides to take the road "less traveled by"; knowing he cannot see where it will lead. Traveling down the second road, the speaker still yearns to travel both paths– he "keeps the first for another day." As the narrator proceeds down the unworn path, he realizes there will be no way he can ever return to the deviation to experience the other route. The speakers utters: "Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back." Frost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Existentialism: Existence Before Essence Existence Before Essence: Existence before essence is the existential notion of a character creating meaning for oneself. It is a part of existentialism because it centers around one's value of existence. When Andy talks to Hadley atop the roof, he negotiates a deal with him to settle his issues concerning a large sum of money. Andy also refers to his prison–mates as "coworkers", showing that he feels they are his business companions. This demolishes the notion of them as a lower class prisoner and elevates them to an equal plane of citizenship. Red amiably described, "for those twenty minutes we felt like free men" (King 47). The beers that Andy earned for his coworkers brought meaning into their hearts, and they felt free. Andy also felt accomplished because he successfully brought his sense of purpose into Shawshank by helping out others. He finds his meaning by improving other peoples' lives. A modern world example is how a firefighter will rush into a burning building to save other people. They are finding meaning by saving others' lives. Alienation: Alienation refers to the prospect of isolation in existentialism. It is a part of existentialism because for one to have an existential mindset, they must differ from the rest of the common thoughts and formulate them on their own. This results in an unavoidable isolation from everybody else. Before Andy asked Red for a rock–hammer, Red knew, "Andy had no cell–mate, and ... that was just the way he wanted it" (King 27). ... Just stop and think, dont you wonder what it would be like without being able to make your own choices for yourselves. You would be miserable right? You would never be happy because it's something someone else wanted you to do not what you want to do. In the book The Giver by Lois Lowry the kids get told what to do, they get told they cant tell lies, the recivers name was Jonas and he couldnt tell his parents what he was doing while he was with the giver. The giver made rules for him like one of them was he couldnt tell his parents anything he had to tell them lies, another one was he couldnt take medicen for any illnesses. • 42. What Is The Literary Elements Of The Road Not Taken Difficult choices made in life may conflict with the future if we think, or make the wrong choice. In the poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost the traveler is faced with a decision about which road to take. In the literal sense the poem is about a person taking a walk through the woods; however, metaphorically it explores a person's journey in life. Our decisions, especially important ones, have a great effect on our future. Making difficult choices can take you down a different pathway to success. Frost uses literary elements: imagery, point of view, and setting to create meaning. Imagery, is one literary element Frost uses in the poem. For example, the speaker comes to a halt when he notices that "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The setting, for instance, describes the two roads in the woods during an autumn morning "And both that morning equally lay" (Frost). When using morning references, Frost eludes to a fresh start. Also this shows, making a choice in the direction of life creates a new beginning. He uses the word "equally" which is meaning he still cannot decide which path to choose. Thinking about choosing the less traveled road, the speaker looks at the road and sees green lonely patches "Because it was grassy and wanted wear" (Frost). In my mind the setting to me helps me imagine him in the woods trying to clear his head when being trampled on by another choice or decision to make. The speaker looks at his surrounding and choices to help decide which path to take, and if it's the right one. • 46. Choices with Regard to the Process of Consumption Consumer choice refers to the decisions consumers make when considering the products and services they want to purchase. Presently, in this post–industrial society, many analysts believe that social strata in many parts of the world have led to the emergence of "consumer society" (Smart, B 2014). Reasons for this are because individuals are being portrayed as having a wide range of choice as they are being presented with a wide range of products and services. As Ellis at al. (2012) notes, privatization of production and distribution of goods and services have expanded the way consumers can access them, and therefore, there are increased consumer choices. However, there are arguments that in some cases, consumers have not been provided with adequate positions to exercise their true choices on goods and services and therefore, which is leading them to make passive choices in regards their process of consumption. Some arguments assert that consumers are becoming more and more actively involved in their buying and consumption processes, especially in this age when people are more enlightened. Arguments for Active and Passive Consumption The Concept of Number of Options Iyengar and Leper (2000) state, that current psychological theories confirm that individuals become motivated when making choices individually. They refute the widely believed notion that people will be willing to make wise and precise choices when flooded with many options. When people are offered with fewer ... She chose to kill her daughter for reasons such as slavery and experiences she didn't want her daughter to have. Being a mother, there are going to be situations where you can either help your child or have absolutely no choice but to let your child suffer. Sethe, chose the decision of preventing her daughter from suffering by killing her, she chose the right choice by protecting her daughter from the cruelty of slavery. Sethe had a difficult choice when she forced herself to make a decision on whether to keep her daughter alive and be taken into slavery, or kill her and prevent her from suffering from the same or maybe more pain Sethe had in slavery. For example, when the novel Beloved states, "That's what they came in there for. Held me down and took it." This piece of evidence exemplifies the way slave owners could abuse you, and you couldn't do anything about it. The importance of this evidence is that slavery wasn't something you could get away from when you're young, and Sethe killed her daughter for a reason. Another piece of evidence from the text that talks about the horrible life of slavery, "Schoolteacher made one open up my back, and when it closed it made a tree. It grows there still." This example proclaims that they beat Sethe and this was only because she was a slave, they left her a scar she would have for the rest of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 58. Critical Analysis Of Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken Critical Analysis of Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken The speaker in Robert Frost's 'The Road Not Taken' gives the reader insight into human nature with each line of poetry. While, Frost had not originally intended for this to be an inspirational poem, line by line, the speaker is encouraging each reader to seek out his or her own personal path in the journey of life. Romanticizing the rural woods of New England creates the perfect setting for the theme of self–discovery laid out and described by the speaker. Robert Frost's original intent in writing the poem was not to convey the inspiration that it has for almost a hundred years. He had written the poem to poke fun at his friend, Edward Thomas, with whom he had taken many walks. Thomas was hesitant and always wondering what would happen if he had chosen a different path (http://www.yoga.com/raw/readings/frost_road.html). In fact, Frost sent the poem to his friend, then in France, and got the response, ?What are you trying to do with me?? (http://www.libarts.sfasu.edu/Frost/PopPoems.html). However, Frost did see the impact the poem was having and stated, 'Do not follow where the path may lead?Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.' The speaker communicates many things in the first stanza of the poem. The first line, ?Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,? uses imagery with the color yellow, the color of gold, to show that the speaker sees an opportunity ahead of him. The two roads symbolizes the choices and consequences he must choose. The next line, ?And sorry I could not travel both,? illustrates how difficult it is to make a choice. It is impossible not to wonder what could happen by choosing the other road and what he could be missing out on. ?And being one traveler long I stood,? shows how the speaker would like to be in two places at once. Unable to accomplish this, he takes a long time to decide on what he should do. Finally, the speaker describes studying the first option, looking as far into the future as he possibly could with the lines, ?And looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth.? The speaker continues to convey his message in the second stanza of ?The Road Not Taken.? In the opening line of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. Analytic Hierarchy Process And Analytic Network Process 2.3.2 MCDA Models Related to Thesis Analytic Hierarchy Process and Analytic Network Process There are different methods to solve multi–criteria decision–making problems. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Analytic Network Process (ANP) are two methods introduced by Tomas Saaty. AHP tries to solve the decision problem by modeling it in a hierarchy while ANP is used when the problem is so complex that cannot be modeled as a hierarchy. This complexity occurs because of the effect of criteria on each other or the effect of alternatives on criteria. The Analytic Network Process is a generalization of the Analytic Hierarchy Process. ANP approach comprises four steps [87]: Step 1: Model construction and problem structuring: The problem should be stated clearly and decomposed into a rational system like a network Step 2: Pairwise comparisons and priority vectors: In ANP, like AHP, pairs of decision elements at each cluster are compared with respect to their importance towards their control criteria. In addition, interdependencies among criteria of a cluster must also be examined pairwise; the influence of each element on other elements can be represented by an eigenvector. The relative importance values are determined with Saaty's scale. Step 3: Supermatrix formation: The Supermatrix concept is similar to the Markov chain process. To obtain global priorities in a system with interdependent influences, the local priority vectors are entered in the appropriate columns of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Roger's growth was greatly impacted through the teachings of Ms. Luella Bates Washington Jones, about choice, trust, and about honesty. As Roger is caught he learns a valuable lesson from the compassionate woman who treats him with kindness rather than reporting him to the police. If a person who was nearly robbed caught the thief they would not have been so kind as to do the things the Ms. Jones did for her robber. Every life decision made is a choice, people choose to go one way or another. Roger chose to steal the purse of the women on street. He chose to put himself in a situation that could potentially end badly. After his encounter he did not expect to receive the kindness that he did from the women. The first lesson that Mrs. Jones teaches Roger is that stealing her purse was a choice that he made. It was a choice that was going to have consequences. His choosing to steal her purse was her opportunity to teach him that every choice we make has negative and positive effects. She tells him that it was his choice to put himself in contact with her, and that the contact was not going to be something that he got away with. In this scene Roger is brought home to Mrs. Jones' house where she made him wash his face and fed him. • 70. Analysis Of The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost "The Road Not Taken" is a poem by Robert Frost that was written as a narrative based on him and his friend, Thomas Edward. Frost and Edward would take long walks together in the woods in England. There were always complaints at the end of their walks that they should have taken a different path. This inspired Frost to write this poem. It talks about great importance in our everyday lives and further suggests that any choice a person makes in life, how small it may seem at first, will always have some sort of impact on an individual in the future. The start of the poem is focused on a road divided. However, the conflict arises with the fact that the poet himself cannot be divided to take both paths. He is looking down a fork in the road. And as he is lost in thought as gazes down the two roads that look very similar in appearance, he understands that the choice that is made could potentially change his life. The "two roads diverged in a yellow wood" is an extended metaphor that represents the decisions that we are faced with every day. This first stanza is also a metaphor signifying that while we are free to choose things in life, we sometimes may not know what we are choosing between. The poem describes an emblematic impasse that many may face, both factually and symbolically. There are several forks in the road; those that force us one to make choices and decisions that will determine ones fate. It provides a view into the obstacles that are encountered in life and ... Analysis Of Albert Camus 's Speech People choose every day in different circumstances and degrees either small imperceptible one, such as the color of the shirt that they will wear, or huge emotional and moral dilemmas like an abort or a high–risk surgery. Nonetheless, there is always a decision made that has its consequences (want or not). Albert Camus uses characterization to address the importance of choices. The author uses the character of Balducci to show what happens when people follow the rules without hesitation. For example, when Balducci arrives into the school to leave the Arab with Daru, and Daru shows himself discontent with that unforeseen problem, he says, "Those are the orders" (Camus). Balducci as a man of law must follow whatever thing is said to him, and he will do it for sure without dubiety; in addition, Balducci remarks, "[Y]ou must sign, that 's the rule" (Camus). He has to obey all the requisites and commandments that his work dictates, and he can't avoid doing this because he will break all the goodness that justice represents. Nevertheless, Camus tries to point out if a person who only follow a guide or manual for every decision he or she made. That person is, in fact, making no choices, and he or she does not have to face and think about what is right or wrong because that person will search and do whatever is said in that guide. Particularly, in this story, Balducci notes, "You don 't get used to putting a rope on a man even after years of it..." (Camus). Even though he does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each of these trifling choices brings us to who we are today. But, it only takes one minimal choice to halt our future and steer us spiraling in a different direction. It's with this ONE choice that years later led me to What Ifs? and regrets, and made me question whether my freedom at the time was truly freedom, or constraint. From a very young age, I was raised around horses. Through generations of Andersons' riding was a given, a family trait, however, riding was never that important to me. I was taught to ride when I was just six years old and started competing when I was ten. I spent countless afternoons training after school, trotting and cantering around the horse track or down riding trails. For a while riding, was liberating, a release from the outside world, but as I turned fourteen riding became something that only squandered my free time. For months I made excuses, or lied about going to the stables. I did not know how to tell my Mom that I no longer shared her love for riding, it meant too much to her, to my family, but I was sick of spending my free time doing something I no longer enjoyed. Eventually my Mom caught on to my tricks, yet her response was unexpected. She was calm and collected and allowed me to quit on a whim. Character Analysis: A Road Not Taken How do the choices we make form our identity? 10/7/17 Word Count: 698 The choices that we make can determine who you are, who you want to be as a person and how people think of you. It can change your life at some point. Every choice, big or small, will influence or affect another person. It is inevitable to avoid. In Robert Frost's poem "A Road Not Taken" the author is describing hard choices and how those choices define who you are as a human being. Frost concludes, "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,/ I took the one less traveled by,/ And that has made all the difference" (Frost). In that statement, Frost shows that choosing the road less traveled by shapes the individual into a role model who makes hard choices and is a free thinker who is leading people through a new path. In "A Long Walk To Water" by Linda Sue Park, the protagonist, Salva Mawien Dut Ariik, is taking the road less traveled by being brave in the face of danger and war, remaining loyal to his Dinka community and family, while still being friendly to the people around him in the war zone. Each choice that we make pushes towards the supposedly right or wrong path, but the biggest question is how to decide which way we're going. In the search for what's right, the lines can become blurred into an adamant certainty that what's wrong is right and vice versa. In Arthur Miller's The Crucible, the characters find out first hand. When the witch hunt has barely begun, Abigail tells Proctor that "I saw your face when she put me out, and you loved me then and you do now! (Miller 20)". The subtle manipulation that Abigail uses to win that man back fails due to his being not "easily led". As people always say, "Hindsight is 20/20", but if we would look forward in time and plan instead of making gut decisions, making better decisions and choices would definitely be easier to do. Robert Frost said it best in his poem, "The Road Not Taken", when he said, "Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim" (Frost). This shows that when Frost got to a fork in the road, he sat down and evaluated both options before making a selection. He looked at the path on the left and then the path on the right so he would know exactly which choice to make and how that choice would work for him. This applies to everybody. When there is a big choice to be made, we need to evaluate every option and then look into the future to see how the options will benefit us later. If at the time a choice seems perfect, but there is no future benefit, why make that choice? If everybody has a common goal to be the best person that they can be and to be as successful as they can in life, the choice that is made needs to be a thirty day or thirty year decision, not a thirty second decision. Choice is defined as "the act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities". Choices are not optional. We do not even know we are making a choice most of the time. • 106. The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost Analysis Life is difficult because no one can be sure if the choice they make will actually lead the outcome they wished for. "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, one of the most recognizable poems in American literature, speaks to choices people face in their life. The speaker has to make a right choice for him, that will lead to the outcome of being what he really wants to be. "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost uses symbolism, imagery, personification, and metaphor, to explain its theme that choices made by the one's strong wish of what one really wants to be, will ultimately lead to the desired outcome. The poem uses symbols to indicate the choices that the speaker faces in life. The two diverged road symbolize the two significant choices that diverge the future of speaker's life. The fork in the road indicates the point in the speaker's life where he can go no farther without making a decision that takes him down one path and does not allow him to take the other. The "yellow wood" (1) indicates fall when the leaves turn yellow in the forest. Fall is a symbol of the waning years of speaker's life, meaning that the speaker is past his youth when he can make a choice with the confidence that it is correctable at a later time. Therefore, the choice that he will make is permanent and highly impacts the rest of his life. Imagery and personification are used to describe contradiction in the process of making a decision between the two paths. Since he cannot take both roads, the speaker looks down the road but cannot see beyond the undergrowth, which expresses the fact that no one knows what the future will bring. Much of the imagery in the poem is visual to describe the path to show the speaker's indecisiveness of choosing a certain path. He wants to choose the path that is less traveled so he chooses the path that is " having perhaps the better claim" (7), which is the path that is "grassy and wanted wear"(8), a personification to describe that road is not stepped by other people. However, he realizes that there is no appreciable difference between the two paths because "both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black."(11,12) The contradiction with the serious tone shows perplexity that the ... It is a narrative of the choices in life and the crossroads in which the individual is faced with. In the lines, there is quite clarity in the decisions and feelings of Frost throughout. His use of imagery to paint beautiful landscapes and countless sub–thoughts is extraordinary, yet he does it with such few words. Although one could see this poem for how it reads and view the story of a solemn traveler pacing down a road, when diving deep into its actual text one sees that Frost is trying to paint a much deeper picture. This metaphor of a poem is written a way that anybody who reads it can understand and relate. From each of the simple lines to the groupings of intricately placed words, this work of art brings out the meaning and passion in a well lived life. In the first stanza the setting is laid out before us. A fork in the road in the middle of a yellow wood. These two paths are unknown to the solemn traveler. The first line in the poem states "yellow wood," which gives the feeling that it would be more of an autumn season. The autumn season is the beginning of dormancy in the forest life. It also signals the nearing end of another joyous year. In life we have cycles just like the seasons cycle. Periods of new growth such as spring or a new relationship perhaps. Summer, where we are enjoying the things we have to the fullest. There is fall, when something nears to an end such as a vacation, the ending of the year or maybe childhood when one must think about getting out in the world. Then, there is winter: the darker portion of the cycle of life. The point in which we are waiting for the new to begin or praying for the hurt to subside. This cycle of life, and particularly the season of autumn, seems to pair up with the fork in the road or the point where the traveler is ending this stretch of road and must embark upon a new path. Just as it is in life when one period begins to draw to an end we must begin to think of the next set of choices or paths to take. Most options in life do not allow for someone to have both. Just as the traveler we, too, must choose a path for ourselves. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 114. Theme Of Choices In A Rose For Emily And Hills Like White... In life, everyone has choices that can determine their future. There are always two choices in life, one that will leave people not regretting their decision and another that will always make an individual second guess the choice they made. Choices do not just happen to real people they can also happen to characters in pieces of literature. In every story, short or long, the reader gets an understanding of the characters and the situation(s) they are in. In "A Rose for Emily" and "Hills like White Elephants" the characters in these stories the characters make decisions that change their lives. The author conveys the theme of choices can take people's lives in different directions by using symbolism, imagery, and oppression of women. Faulkner, the author of " A Rose for Emily" uses symbolism through the entire story to help convey the theme. An example of symbolism would be Emily Garrison's house. The house is a very old pre–civil war house which during the time Emily's father was alive it was a very nice and prestigious house. Her house helps the development of the theme by being a symbol for an older generation. Emily Garrison is stuck in the past and does not want to accept that times have changed and her house is a good representation of that. Her house never changes and it never does in the story because Emily makes the choice to not go on with the times which helps allude to the theme. In the story "Hills like White Elephants" by author also uses symbolism. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 118. Frosted Flakes Or Cheerios For Breakfast? Frosted Flakes or College If given a choice would someone choose Frosted Flakes or Cheerios for breakfast? Young children may not have always had the choice between the types of cereals that their parents bought at the store, but it is the child's choice on which cereal they choose to eat each morning. Many breakfast options could replace cereal just as in every life situation; there are various choices with different outcomes. Therefore, understanding the correct words to describe choice can be difficult. Google defines choice as "an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities" ("Google." Google. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Feb. 2017.) In the most basic form, this is how many comprehend the meaning of choice, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An opportunity to go to college is not a guaranteed venture. It is an opportunity to further one's education and live a more stable lifestyle. Also, it is a road that may lead to any number of possibilities in careers and life. An example of this is, hypothetically a student makes a choice to take the path to college and becomes an engineer. She starts her first job which likely does not pay well but is a good start. She meets someone she loves and begins a relationship with this person, and they get married. Soon after marriage she receives a job offer from a well–known manufacturer to be the head engineer in the company. She takes the job along with the high paying salary. The only catch is she must move to the plant's location. After many years, she retires with a substantial amount of money and lives in luxury. What would be her opportunities and possibilities if she did not make that choice to go to college? While this one choice does affect all aspects of her life, it does have a significant impact. Along the way, she made many other decisions. She made a choice to study for her tests and not fail out of college. She also made a decision to get up and work hard every day to enable her to move up in the ranks in her career field. These options are opportunities and possibilities, as are many that she makes daily. Unlike the the women from "Arranged Marriages" this hypothetical woman made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 122. The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost Have you ever stopped and asked yourself "Did I make the right decision in my life?"? Most would answer yes to this question. Although some, would hide behind pride and rant on about their triumphs, or how they made just enough right choices to justify all the wrong. However, those same people lay awake when the morning dew is fresh, still counting the ways they may have been able to do better in the choices they made many years ago. Either way, if you admit it now or in the wee hours of the night, like most people, you will come across this question at least once in your life. Robert Frost was able to grasp this raw, vulnerable life changing moment in the palm of his hand. Then he beautifully laid it out in the form of words in the narrative poem "The Road Not Taken". Frost is able to take you back to a time when you have been faced with a life–changing decision. Then, causing you to ask yourself "Did I make the right choice?", "What caused me to choose the way I did?", and "How did my choices long ago affect my life today?". This is more than a poem, but rather a meaningful life lesson. By using metaphors Frost is able to show his readers a time of having to decide between two major life events. Thus, relating to his readers on a more personal level. He does this by speaking of a traveler coming to a fork in the road of a wooded area. Right from the beginning you can tell how the traveler is curious of both roads set out before him. He looks at one long and hard as far as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 126. Trombonism Research Paper Life is without a doubt the most important ideology that was ever invented. Evidently, every citizen has sacred things that belong to that person, even if they appear simple. Being a trombonist is one of the most unique inventions I've ever discovered. Constructed in the 1500s, the trombone has changed itself and society throughout those years of existence. The most standard trombone is the typical golden straight trombone. I'm not the greatest trombonist but someday I hope to achieve stability with the horn. It's not about becoming a better player, it's about amusing yourself with the chunk of golden metal. Importance is very key for a person's development as a human, personally, my family is another important aspect of my life. Encouragement is the only noun I have to describe my sparkling family. Nevertheless, family has aided me in a majority of my junctures I had to dig through. Consequently, family has been there to feed me, aid me, and other support mechanisms. Even if disagreements are announced and statements are frowned upon, everyone grows from these incidents. Notwithstanding, this next one is quite universal since anyone would love to grasp respect. Respect has always been important to me due to the detection of love. Respect and love work in very similar ways, since both involve junctures. • 130. Analytic Hierarchy Process And Analytic Network Process Essay Analytic Hierarchy Process and Analytic Network Process There are several methods to solve multi–criteria decision–making problems. To obtain global priorities in a system with interdependent influences, the local priority vectors are entered in the appropriate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a beautiful film that reflects the postmodernist era by its use of techniques to depict the life and choices made of the movies protagonist Nemo Nobody. Postmodernism is a cultural movement that is drifting away from its former art, literature, cinema, and architecture once used in a modernist era. One of the main themes portrayed in this film is that of fragmentation. Fragmentation is constantly shown throughout this film by the anarchy and chaos the director chose to display. The meaning of fragmentation is being able to pull away information in order to connect it to a bigger story. In order to understand the film information must be ... But how do you choose a life in which you already know the outcome? That is what separates this move from the rest. Each life nemo can choose from is beautiful in its own way. In the film Nemo as an elderly man says " Each of these lives is the right one. Every path is the right path. Everything could have been anything else and it would have just as much meaning" (Mr. Nobody). This line from the film really has an impact of the choices Nemo is left with. The quote shows that each life is just as meaningful as the other. They all come with their own positives and negatives. These choices displayed in fragmented form show the audience the postmodernist way of thinking that no life is worth living more than yours. • 142. Hamlet Bad Choices Choices are the decisions we make in life, some are good others are bad. Choosing a bad decision can affect families mentally, financially and emotionally. Bad choices always have consequences. A persons emotions can alter them into making terrible choices. Sometimes there is not a choice that is positive. Some people have choices that require sacrifice in order to survive. People will have regrets if they make the wrong decision. Choices are decided by the emotional state our brains are in. Our emotions are hardwired into our brains that affect our morals and decisions. Our emotions will sometimes make decisions for us. If our emotions are altered it will create impulsive or irrational decisions. For example in the play "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare, Hamlet is emotionally unstable and is angry with his mother because she does not value the death of his father. At the moment Polonius yells for help behind the drapes for him Hamlet stabs him thinking it was Claudius. Hamlet used his anger to make a decision, to either kill the person behind the drapes, assumably Claudius. Or making the right choice and and discovering who is behind the drapes; if it was Claudius then killing him. This demonstrates the role emotions play in for deciding our choices. But what happens if there is not a right choice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 146. Multi-Alternative Decision Making Introduction Some economists assume that people make a choice according to the principle of value maximisation and the ordering of the options is independent of the context. However, there are anomalies of decision making suggesting that the context matters. The three basic anomalies are the similarity effect (Tversky, 1972), the attraction effect (Huber, Payne and Puto, 1982) and the compromise effect (Simonson, 1989). Theorists have tried explaining these effects by various approaches. For example, the multi–alternative decision field theory (Roe, Busemeyer and Townsend, 2001) can explain all the three effects. In addition, Tversky (1972) applied the elimination by aspects model to illustrate the similarity effect and Tversky and Simonson (1993) introduced a componential context model to explain the attraction and compromise effects. The next section reviews the three anomalies of multi–alternative decision making. Then we illustrate how the three theories mentioned above explain the anomalies. After that, the decision field theory is compared with the other two models respectively. Three context effects in decision making In real life, we may make choices among various options with a large number of attributes. For simplicity, we use five options with only two attributes to demonstrate the three anomalies as Figure 1 shows. In generally, the respondents' profile indicate the responding have the require information to offer unbiased feedbacks on the survey. As may be seen from Tables 3 through 5, the motivational factor of programme choice selection is attributable by five constructs. Two of the five sub– hypotheses were substantiated in hypothesis 1. A positive relationship is found between career motivation factor and satisfaction with choice is not unexpected. This is because serious shortfall may exist if there is a mismatch between the learning satisfactions with career motivation. The consequence is truancy, poor grade and dropout, in turn, the lower satisfaction with the decision made. Career motivation is very critical for most people or graduate. • 154. Road Not Taken Personification "The Road Not Taken" There are times in everyone's life when they come to a point that they must make a decision which could affect the rest of their days. In Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken" two roads divide into the woods, and he must debate on which path to take. Symbolism is represented when the voice talks about the fork in the road. This fork represents our choices and the path seems to be the result of those choices. As he makes up his mind about the path he is going to take, he wonders what it would have been like to go down the other path. Although one of the paths has a curve in it, both paths show evidence of having been taken. The element of personification is present when we read the speaker telling of the beautiful lush grass that wanted wear. The yellow leaves of the woods describe autumn.
