2. Construction of our music video
We used a Nikon D5300
camera to film all of our
shots, most of the time with
a tripod but we also had
some hand held shots.
What we really liked about
the camera was it had a
fairly high frame rate and
we could manually select
when the camera can
zoom and focus.
3. Construction of our Digipack
Me and group member
Amie took a range of
pictures of Josh using my
Sony W800 Digital
Camera
We then edited them to the
right size and added a
cloud filter to each photo
so all the photos have a
faded effect
Since our genre is singer
songwriter we decided to
superimpose lyrics onto
each image to create a
traditional lyric booklet
4. Putting the clips together
We used final cut express to put
edit our video. We had to get the
actual album version of the song
from itunes, because there is a
different version that is shown on
TV dramas 90210, and The
Vampire Dairies and those
versions are on youtube.
We used all the tools, such as the
cutting tool, to create our cuts and
lots of transitions to make it run
more smooth and it slows down
the pace at times (such as cross
dissolving and additive dissolving.
We also used colour effect to
make some of our scenes black
and white .
5. Putting our digipack
together
Using photoshop we chose a nature
themed digipack, to match our nature
themed music video
We chose the the image to match our
song, using a consistent white, simple
font. E.G. We used a picture of
fireworks at night for the song “night life”
and a beach picture for a “frozen
summer”
6. Marketing our digipack and Music
video/research into audience
I created social media
accounts such as instagram
to share artistic photos for
our digipack sticking to a
nature theme, I took myself.
I posted updates on how the
video was going during the
process of making it, on both
Instagram and Twitter. With
Twitter I was able to share
the Youtube link of our video
Posting the video onto
youtube allowed a range of
people to view it
Through Instagram
especially we found out what
people liked through the
most liked photos
7. In terms of finding out
who our psychographic
audience are and our
demographic audience
are, we put a survey on
www.surveymonkey.com
and analysed the results
We also spoke to
different groups of
people and asked what
they liked/disliked with
music and music videos
8. Planning
We mainly organised
everything through
social media e.g.
Chatting on Facebook
about ideas and
planned what days we
and our actors were
available
I also emailed the
Neil, the vicar who
runs the church in
Newport many times,
to organise dates to
film where everyone
was available.
9. Research
Researched into a range of
music video genres, mainly
iconic pop videos, to see how
they captured people’s
imaginations and singer-
songwriter videos. I also
researched into some rock
videos but only the ones that
blur the lines between rock
ballads and singer-songwriter.
I managed to do this by
watching videos on youtube
and analysing the micro
elements of Camera, Editing
and Mise-en-scene.
I was able to do this as
youtube allows me to pause,
and skip to certain part of the
video whenever I like
10. Using my technological
convergence of an iphone, I
was able to buy music off of
Itunes, and listen to any
differences between an
album version or the radio
edit that’s heard in the
video. It gives me a better
understanding of music
genres and why it suited
that style of a music video
11. How media technology helped
in my evaluation
Media technology helped me particularly
with question 2, as I could either use
windows movie maker or final cut express
to create a video and have a recording of
our voices over the top of it
Powerpoint is very easy to use in terms of
creating a clear presentation.
Taking screen shots from youtube for q1 of
our video, and other videos, helped make a
clear comparison between the shots I
wanted to convey that were similar.
