Evalautation question 4
1. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation stages?
Question 4.
2.
3. Applications
When researching music videos of our genre, I found that
most useful was the internet including websites and
applications such as YouTube. I conducted my research
throughout using an IMac. Safari was another of the many
useful tools, search engine, that I used whilst conducting
my thorough research, I used Safari to search for images
of similar artists from my genre, detailed information on
future (artist), lyrics to our song Wicked and similar genre
Digipacks to help aid us in our research and development
of our own Digipack.
4. There are a variety of videos on the internet that I chose to look at
individually to gain inspiration so that I could look to incorporate some of
there techniques into my own work. I got ideas from a majority of
existing videos, locations, style, language. YouTube is an online video
based media sharing website; and was one of the main online products
that I used in order to conduct my research and planning. Ultimately, we
made our band & song choices from the combined use of YouTube and
our own personal iTunes libraries. After making this choice, we then
continued to use YouTube to research the band further (The Last Shadow
Puppets) and looked extensively into live performances. We watched
videos of bands across al genres to gain inspiration for our own videos.
We also used YouTube to upload our final music video.
5. A lot of the media was able too me including the
television, my phone, magazines etc. allowing
me to research in depth without being at the
hands of an IMac, similar music videos, genre
music videos came on the television and
allowed me gain inspiration from other artist,
analyzing what I liked and what I hated about
the song itself and the video.
6. Canon G7X
During construction, many devise were used during the
process such as the IMac operating computer to allow
for us to use different software's to edit and research
the various tasks that we needed to achieve in all.
Canon G7X – is the camera we ended up using one of
our own devices that we used to film our music video,
because it gave a crisp more HD quality feel and look to
the video in all, giving us the perfect footage that we
needed to film.
7. Tripod
At times we used various accessories with the
camera such as a tripod to steady our camera
when filming, we also used the tripod to our
advantage when filming out of a car window sot
steady the camera when driving past Paula in
the video because we didn’t want the quality of
the filming to fall behind the rest of our filming
because the rest of the filming was of such good
quality.
8. SD Card
To capture and store the footage we used a
small but rather effective device called and SD
card that captured and stored footage when we
filmed, it also made it easier for us to transfer
filmed footage from the camera to the
computer/IMac because we took the SD card
out of the camera and slotted it into the back of
the IMac making it so very easy to transfer
filmed footage from the camera to the IMac.
9. Software
However once on the IMac we uploaded it to a software
called final Cut pro in which we used too bring together
the pieces of filming that we had, editing them together
smoothly to produce a final product which was our music
video, we included effects that would finish the music
video with a finished product, we also included transitions
throughout and most importantly, more important than
anything else we matched the song to the video/the video
to the song, matching it accurately so that miming was in
time with the actual song.
10. Software
We also used another software such as Adobe Photoshop to produce a
poster for our digipak poster and our cd cover the outside artwork and
the inside of the Cd as well used Photoshop when producing my ancillary
tasks. Having used this program last year when creating my magazine, I
already knew how to use it effectively. When creating my ancillary
products I wanted to create and manipulate images to create my own
and I used Photoshop to do this. I used a camera to take the pictures I
used on my Digi-pack. I tried to use the camera to its full advantage by
trying to use different angles and shots. Having used this last year I
already knew how to use it effectively and managed to capture all the
shots I needed with ease. I used the camera in conjunction with the
white back drop. I used lighting when filming and when taking pictures.
11. Lighting
When I was filming I used them to brighten the
scene and to make the white backdrop appear
lighter since there wasn’t much natural light
coming into the room. This helped me capture
better quality and brighter footage. I used
lighting when taking pictures, I used it in the
same way I had used it to film my video to
produce a professional feel as if we were at a
real pr photo shoot.
12. Conclusion
I also relied a lot on natural light when filming, so I couldn’t film outside
when it was cloudy or raining. This caused me trouble because whenever
I went to film it decided to rain. This made it very difficult to get work
completed since we filmed during winter. For the most part we used
each of these pieces of technology and kit individually in order to
complete the process of making the ancillary texts and piecing together
our music video. However, it is how these products worked together and
made the process much more simple than it could be. If me and Nathan
wanted to change anything from a blog post on word press to a section
in the video, we could be online in seconds and we would always have
our footage or products with us due to the portability of the memory
sticks and SD memory cards. It would not have been a hardship to have
to carry the cameras at all times either. To summaries, the whole process
was enhanced for me and my partner thanks to the advancements in
technology.
