1. How did you use media
technologies in the
construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
2. Research
YouTube, Google and social networks was some of the main sources to conduct
our research into this whole project.
YouTube gave us endless amounts of music videos similar to our genre giving us a
wide range of different ideas as to what our final production would look like.
There was a variety of music videos from high budget excellent quality music
videos to the lower end which was not quite sophisticated and believable to
watch. By watching them we was able to piece together what made a music video
of our genre electro pop good quality despite of having a low budget and limited
equipment to work with. Also asYouTube allows the public to comment on the
video, we was able to see whether the feedback that was given was negative or
positive, as it would be mostly from their target audience. By repeatedly
watching similar types of music videos we was able to see a pattern in the mise-
en-scene used, which then gave us insight on how to take the next step which
was planning on how to brand the star, chose settings to film ect.
3. Instgram was one of the main social networking sights we used as instagram is an online
photo-sharing, video-sharing service that enables its users to take pictures and videos.
This came in great use as we was able to view make up artists accounts and get inspiration
on how to create the branding look for our artist and actress in our music video.
The collage below was some of the images we found on Instagram which was most
appropriate for the type of Music we chose. From the pictures
We managed to transform and create a similar look for our
Artist which can be see on the right.
4. We then created an instagram account as it is currently a popular social networking site that is
used by many meaning that we will be able to make connections with our audience. Our target
audience would typically be between the ages of 16-19, therefore as this site is aimed at teens
this would make it suitable to get possible feedback from our target audience. We like
Instagram because it allows you to upload pictures. As you can see, the first image we
uploaded on Faith's account was of some decks showing that she is in a music studio. This
would immediately tell anyone who is viewing her profile that her occupation is to do with the
music industry. The next picture that we uploaded was of one of our filming days at the beach.
We uploaded this because it is a cool and interesting image that Faith's fans would probably be
interested by. From researching of social networking sites we was aware of the types of
images that artist upload and they often upload images of filming days and days in
studio in order to promote their new singles
or new albums or simply just themselves as an
artist. Among the uploads we have posted an
image that would be known today as a 'selfie'.
This is a new way of photographing yourself
that almost every mainstream teenager does
and it has become very popular due to social
networking sites: such as Instagram and
Twitter. By creating an instagram account we
are providing our target audience with another
form of communication. It allows the audience
to make connections with their idol, Faith, and
be aware of what is it that she is up to.Without
this branding would not be as successful and so
on.
5. Planning
When planning our final music video in order to keep things organized, we researched
everything from the weather of the day we was going to film by using Siri on the IPhone 5
to checking the traffic on the AA website to insure we could make the most out of the
time we had to film.
Also we used Microsoft Excel to create a table which included all the essential things that
we need to know and have for filming.
For more depth into our planning we used Google to
find the lyrics of our chosen song ‘Heartbeat.’ By
analyzing the lyrics in depth we was able to relate the
artists feelings and emotions
on how she would portray her
facial expressions and body
language to give the best
performance she can.
Also we found that some of the lyrics linked into the narrative,
which gave us ideas on how to put across our actress. As
tempo of ‘Heartbeat’ is quite fast, lip syncing in some bits
were difficult but by doing this it gave us a simple structure of
where we thought lip syncing would fit in best so it could look
as real as possible.
6. Construction
To piece together our final production we decided to use a SONY camera with 5.3 mega pixel
to ensure we could have the best quality in our budget range. We also used a tripod to keep
the camera clear and steady for the majority of our shots.
When editing, we used Adobe Premier Pro, and Adobe After Effects. Premier Pro allowed us
to fit together all our shots that we filmed precisely and in time with the beat and music. It
had various tools which allowed us to cut and focus only on the footage which worked well
when sections were put together. Premier pro also allowed us to add transitions that suited
the genre for example when the tempo of the music slowed down, the fade transition gave
impact to the tone and atmosphere of the music video as it flowed and kept the calmness
during that section. Furthermore the cutting tool created simple short fast flashes without
the hassle of keeping to insert substitutes for it.
We used Adobe after effects to create flashing lightening strikes and flashing lyrics to sync
with the music. As we had not used this software before, we gathering knowledge on using
After Effects by watchingYouTube tutorials and learned how to create and develop these
effects then import it into Premier Pro and edit it with the rest of the production.
7. To make our artists official website we used ‘Wix’ which was simple and straight forward
to use. Before hand we researched artist such as Rita Ora, Beyoncé, Rhianna and Avril as
they had similar music genres to what our Artist Faith had. By looking at their website we
got inspired on how to create our and came up with the following pages:
Main Page
12. Digipack
When creating our digipack we used a digital Panasonic camera which was good quality to
take the pictures. We edited each individual picture adjusting the colour, texture, size and
inputting font on to the covers by using Adobe Fireworks and this is what we created:
13. Evaluation
When answering our evaluation questions we wanted to keep It as interesting
as possible. We tried to do this by using a variety of different ways to present
each question. One of the main ways of presenting information throughout the
year was through Prezi, as it was straight forward and when played, it flowed
smoothly in different directions making it more appealing.
Another website we used was Emaze, which is very similar to Prezi, this was
also another effective way a producing large amounts of information but at the
same time keeping it eye catching.
We edited feedback on Premier pro and made a video on what we learnt and
how we improved out music video by getting feedback off of our target
audience. By doing this on Premier pro we was able to put a voice over certain
parts we edited to show the audience what changes were made and why.
Lastly we used Slide share to show mainly pictures from the days we filmed as
it was a simple way in presenting different points.
