3. • Iconography- Rock videos tend to be the opposite to pop videos in colour and purpose.
Rock videos tend to use a much darker colour palette to that of pop videos with black
featuring heavily in many of the videos in the genre, this represents the often darker, grittier
sound of rock music and the narrative of the music. Videos of this genre tend to be far more
performance based than the other two genres, with many literally being the band playing the
song at a concert.
• Conventions-The lighting is commonly always used on the performer singing with bright
light shining. Usually the background is in a dark setting giving only focus to the performer
and sometimes there will be a lot of lights flashing around sometimes coloured as well. The
props they use are very iconic to the rock theme especially in clothing usually wearing dark
clothes such as leather or wearing very unusual clothes that can be colourful or be in
different textures.
6. • Camera Work/Cinematography- We see different types of camera shots in pop music
it really depends on the music video itself, but a popular one that most pop music videos use
are extreme close ups on the singer. This use of focus allows the audience to concentrate on
facial appearance of the artist as well as the emotions that they show. This shot is very
effective for the audience and in the music video. Pop music use a lot of camera shots to
show what they want to show like the setting will be a wide camera shot or POV shot, over
the shoulder shot and more.
• Types of Characters-In this genre the singer is usually the one and only main character
but can also be surrounded by other characters to represent something, or sometimes the
group are the main characters. The character in theses videos express some sort of emotion
most of the time by singing and doing various actions in the story of the music video.
Expressing somethings with a particular theme like love, pain, hope, death and more.
9. • Conventions- Most country songs have a simple deep meaning and social message, the
lyrics usually have a storyline going through the song. Most country music follow a narrative
in order to portray the story line empirically. Most country music are written from life
experiences making them very relatable. The lighting are most of the time natural using the
sun bringing happy and bright themes to the song and music, stereotypically they’re filmed in
Texas a place where its happy and free.
• Setting-The setting for country was originally in Texas and still is for most but some are not.
The setting of the place does bring are warmth and joy when you see naturall grounds of the
country making heir music video and song that more great to experience.
12. • Lyrical Meaning- Spoken or chanted rhyming lyrics. The components of rapping include
"content", "flow" (rhythm and rhyme), and "delivery". Rapping is distinct from spoken-word
poetry in that it is performed in time to a beat. Most rap music reading the lyrics have deep
meanings, stories, opinions and more to express whatever you want.
• Camera Work/Cinematography- Rap music is usually the artist sin and expressing his
son directly in front of the camera in 3 or different locations. They would also use different
camera angles to present something in their own way such as wide shots and over the
shoulder to set the scene.
