What is Augmented Reality (AR)?
• AR describes a combination of the two worlds:
  Reality & Virtual Reality
• AR allows to superimpose 3D-content/products
  into the real world.
• AR allows interaction with 3D-content at real time
• AR is the real-time delivery of digital info to
  enhance or enable a geographical/physical
  experience

           vs.
  Virtual Reality (VR)
AR vs. VR
         AR VR
• System augments the • Totally immersive
  real world scene environment
• User maintains a • Visual sense are
sense of presence in under control of
  real world system
• Needs a mechanism to
  combine virtual and
  real worlds.
AR Applications
• Consumer design
• Engineering design
• Entertainment
• Gaming
• Manufacturing, maintenance, and repair

Augmented Reality
   in Education
2010 and 2011Horizon Reports
         predict that the
         use of simple
         augmented
         reality in
         education will
         be widespread
         within 2 to 3
         years.
Why Using AR in Education?
• Provides rich contextual learning
• Appeals to constructivist notions of education where
students take control of their own learning
• Provides opportunities for more authentic learning and
  appeals to multiple learning styles
• Provides each student with his/her own unique discovery
  path
• Engages a learner in ways that have never been possible
• No real consequences if mistakes are made during skills
  training
