Essay On The Space Race
There is only so much you can explore on Earth, Space is infinite. The Space Race was a historical
competition between the Soviet Union and the United States for the first humans to reach the moon.
Taking place during 1957–1975, the Space Race showcased the determination between the two
nations to display who had the superior science and technology knowledge. After the Russians
created the first satellite, the United States felt threatened that the Soviet Union would have military
control over space and began to race against their rivals. The money spent on the space race was a
legitimate use of government funds because it showed the world which country had the best
technology and science, shown the significance of rocket science for use ... Show more content on

The thought that the other nation would have complete military control over the space surrounding
Earth was threatening motivating them to get there first. The same rockets that were used to get to
the moon were able to be changed into a very powerful, explosive–tip rockets. "Von Braun's V–2s
caused around 2,750 civilian deaths; one single V–2 rocket that landed on a Woolworth's store killed
160 Londoners."(The Space Race) With the advancement of rocket technology from the Space Race,
the U.S and Soviets military were able to make weapons of destruction that could kill thousands of
people and could not be shot down due to how new they were and the little knowledge from around
the world about them. Although military advancements were a very important reason why the Space
Race was worth funding, space exploration was also very important.
Lastly, space exploration. The Space Race kickstarted the exploration of space. While rushing to get
an American on the Moon, we learned much about the technicalities of space. While working on the
competition, Eisenhower created NASA, which is still around and alive today "That same year,
President Dwight Eisenhower signed a public order creating the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA), a federal agency dedicated to space exploration."(History.com

Struggling Native Americans and Technical Careers
According to a study done by the Association of Computing Machinery "Native Americans that
graduated in computer science was less than one percent" in 2009 (Varma). Native American
communities have suffered oppression by the United States government. Today we can see that this
struggle is still present Native Americans, especially young generations are not following the
technological advancement that the rest of America is following. Native American students don't
have enough resources to expand on careers that follow a science or engineering subject. Native
Americans have little interest in following a career in STEM majors since they don't have a lot of
indication on were they can get advice (Van Cooten). Another struggle that Native Americans face is
poor status, students don't want to spend money that they don't have in something that might think

The Era Of Optimism Based On The United States Essay
The era of optimism based on the belief that science and technology would continue to improve the
lives of the earth's population. Is a belief that still exists and widely believed today. Though World
War 1 was impactful it didn't alter people's perception on the importance of science and technology
in our society. This is shown in the technological outcomes that the war essentially produced. Like
the use of machine guns, airplanes and other artillery's. Also World War 1 greatly affected the
political, spiritual and cultural development of the United States, India and Germany. The United
States was impacted greatly because of the war. The United States at the time under President
Wilson had initially decided to stay out of the war because it had nothing to do with them. However,
in 1917 when a German Submarine attached U.S shipments in order to encourage Mexico to declare
war. The war is one that will remain heavily engraved in history. More than 11 million solders died
and many civilians died too due to hunger and disease. World War 1 caused a major social impact of
the war is what caused the "sense of loss innocence" causing the emergence of the "lost generation"
where poets, writers and artists came out to discuss the war experience. Economically the United
States became a superpower in the world. The War effort increased commerce and the GDP greatly.
Also as a result of the war wages in industries rose by about 20 percent. Union membership also

The Effects Of Space Travel In The Movie Apollo 13
After watching the movie Apollo 13, all I can take away is irritation, several unanswered questions,
and poorly explained minute details relating to traveling in space. While some details are easy to
understand, such as the effects of gravity on weight and the effects of space travel on the human
body, many instances of scientific references are made under the presumption that the viewer
understands what is being said. Along with the inability to detail the process of achieving space
travel, the details they did include were often inaccurate, for example the display of evident sexism.
While this movie did roughly indulge in the chronicles of previous space missions and the tension
between the United States and Russia in the on going "Space Race", there is very little mention of
the science behind the mission, making this more of a poorly represented history movie than a
scientific examination into the world of NASA, the Kennedy Space Center, and the mission of
Apollo 13. Before explaining inconsistencies in the movie's portrayal of the Apollo 13 mission, it
can be said that it had brief shining moments of informative narration. One of these highlights is the
references made to the ongoing fight between Russia and the United States over who will conquer in
technological advancements. The beginning of the movie really detailed why it was important for
the astronauts and scientists involved in the Apollo 13 mission to complete another trip to the moon.

Modern Day China Is The Foundation Of Any Civilization

East Meets West Education is the foundation of any civilization. Without it, how will it prosper with
illiterate citizens? For many years China has had its gates closed off to the western world. Now,
China is slowly opening its arms to the west starting with allowing western teachers to teach English
in the country. Many teachers from countries like America, England, and France are moving to
China to teach. In order to be adequately prepared American teachers who plan to teach in China
must understand the history underlying the education, the pedagogical techniques, and the effects on
the student. Modern day China is richly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communism is shown through the lack of individual and creative growth of the student. Instead, the
schools emphasize that if a student is good at something they do it for the country even if they don 't
enjoy it. Although, this practice is a communistic belief it is also a Confucius belief. This is opposite
to the creative individualized instruction that twenty–first–century western teachers are being taught.
Confucianism is "the system of ethics, education, and statesmanship taught by Confucius and his
disciples, stressing love for humanity, ancestor worship, reverence for parents, and harmony in
thought and conduct." (Dictionary.com)
In China, Confucianism is everywhere. That includes their school system. Simon Margasin, Director
of the Centre for Global Higher Education, explains that there are four main points of Confucianism:
(1) strong nation–state (2) Families invest in the education of their child (3) "one chance" national
exams– high competition (4) public investment in research. (Margison)
With taking into consideration the history of China, the pedagogical techniques of China have
largely been influenced. In China, every student learns the same thing which is based on the concept
of STEM. (Bharucha) STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. (U.S.
Department of Education) In China, there is no teaching the student. It is teaching the subject. This
is similar to the teaching practices found in Western upper grades.

The Evolution of Forensic Science
Evolution of Forensic Science Forensic science is a broad term that refers to the use of science or
technology in a court room environment. Forensic science plays an important role in modern
popular culture; the police procedural is highly dependent upon cutting–edge forensic science.
Moreover, many people are aware of the impact of DNA testing on the modern criminal justice
landscape. However, forensic science actually predates many modern scientific advances; almost as
long as there have been controversies, there has been some type of forensic science. The first
documented autopsy was performed by the physician Antistius on Julius Caesar in 44 B.C.
(Martinez, 2012). He examined Caesar's body and discovered that of his 23 stab wounds, only one
of them proved fatal. The Roman history of forensics continued, and in 1,000 A.D. a Roman
attorney was able to use bloody palm prints to prove that his client had been framed for murder
(Martinez, 2012). In 1248, a Chinese book described how to distinguish between different causes of
death (Bellis, 2012). Up until that point, the proof that people used forensic science is inconsistent,
but it seems highly unlikely that the recorded instances are the only instances where forensic science
was used. In the 1540s, Ambroise Paré , a French surgeon, began examining how gunshot wounds
and arrows impacted internal organs. He published a book, and that book is considered the
beginning of modern forensic pathology (Martinez, 2012). In

The Causes Of The Sputnik And The Cold War?
Russia launched Sputnik, a satellite to orbit the earth, into outer space on October 4th, 1957. With
tensions already running high in the Cold War, Americans panicked at the thought of the Russians
building space and nuclear energy, fearing it could be used on them. The conflict now called the
Space Race resulted in Americans creating NASA and pushing the sciences in school.
Well before Russia thought about launching Sputnik into space, there had been quite a bit of tension
between America and the Soviet Union. The two countries had been allies in World War II, but they
had a very tense relationship with one another. Americans were leery with the communist
government that the Soviets had and their leader, Joseph Stalin. The Soviets despised the fact that
America refused to acknowledge the USSR as an actual international society. With this being said,
by the time World War II was ended and over with, each country's hatred grew creating an
overpowering sense of spite and belligerence. Therefore, these tensions led to the start of the Cold
War between America and the Soviet Union. The Cold War was an atomic age, meaning that the two
countries developed and tested atomic weapons like the ones used during World War II, which
forged stakes that were severely high. The Cold War led to advancements in not only atomic
weapons or just weapons in general, but advancements in technology, which we see with the launch
of Sputnik.

1800s Health Care
Health is defined as the nonexistence of any illness or disease. Health puts an emphasis on any
diagnosis or medical interventions that can treat any symptoms or medical condition. "Thus, when
the term health care delivery is used, it actually refers to the delivery of medical care or illness care"
(Shi & Singh, 2013, p.29). Medical sociologists' view of health is the optimal capacity where a
person is able to perform their daily tasks even if they suffer from certain health conditions. It is
evident that health can be viewed in different ways.

What's life if there is no freedom? This is the question that arose while reading the Brave New

believes of mass production and consumerism. This synthetic world, also known as the World States
is advanced in science and technology. It is used in every aspect of their lives especially in the mass
production of humans to bring stability to society. Unlike the World State, United states is less

The feeling and emotion creates instability. Stability is only possible if everyone is the same which

atomic energy was introduced by using nuclear bombs which illustrated a vile image of nuclear

Fear In Literature Of H. G. Wells And Ray Bradbury
Fear is the driving force behind change. When a human being feels they are in danger, the response
is to protect themselves."Traumas or bad experiences can trigger a fear response within us that is
hard to quell. Yet exposing ourselves to our personal demons is the best way to move past them"
(Sussex People, 1). Some people will approach the thrill lifestyle willingly, while others will stay
away from it at all costs. When interpreting literature, it is important to understand what was the
cause of the writing. In most science fiction pieces, the answer is fear.
This same truth is evident in the literary works of two authors who shared similar ideas due to
catastrophes going on in the world around them. H.G. Wells grew up during an industrial
advancement in Europe. This advancement impacted the wars that were going on greatly. Killing
was made more efficient and less personal. This affected the morals of the European society.
H.G. Wells noticed the issue, and addressed them in his writing. Ray Bradbury also grew up in a
time of war. The development of nuclear biological warfare greatly impacted his career. His fear of
the end of the world by technology was the supreme basis of all of his works. By applying a
historical lense, readers can observe that H.G Wells and Ray Bradbury are afraid of modernising
technology due to their fear of bad ethics.
The idea of being invisible has always been in the imaginations of children and regarded as a cool
science. H.G. Wells confronts

Information Technology Report (Bilbao–Osorio). Education, of the sciences in particular, has
declined in many countries within Sub–Saharan Africa. This is because teacher salaries have not
kept up with the high inflation rates in these countries, leaving the best teachers to search for better
jobs or emigrate. This then results in less prepared students and by the time they reach grade twelve,
the failure rate has increased to 50 percent. The reason for the high failure rate is most African
students are underprepared due to educationally disadvantaged backgrounds from not receiving
proper education starting at a younger age

The US Involvement In The Space Race
The space race, a competition to show superiority of technology and military firepower. The United
States should have entered the space race. If the United States would not have entered the space race
Russian communism would have had a big achievement over democracy America. Russia's early
success in the space race was used to show that communism was superior. The early success was
also used to show that the economy, science, and culture developed faster under communist
rule(Space Race). The launch of Sputnik I set the space race in motion(Wall). Sputnik I was the first

A New History After The War
A New History After the War
World War II was considered to be a watershed event in history by many historians. A watershed
event is commonly referred to as an "event or period marking a turning point in a course of action or
state of affairs". World War II was an event that changed history and the aftermath wrecked most
ideals of the future before the war. After the war every party wanted to not repeat this war, so instead
of peace, the world rearmed with new technologies and nationalistic racism to prevent any form of
the war from happening again. This turned into conflicts and fights that were more globalized than
ever before. This war fueled another conflict that dictated how the world would operate, which was
the Cold War.
The cold war was the start of the major changes in human history. Two important events that
occurred in it was the arms race and space race. "An arms race denotes a rapid increase in the
quantity or quality of instruments of military power by rival states in peacetime. A close
examination of the historical evidence reveals a different picture. Political purposes almost always
drive and govern arms races. It is common for a major race to be initiated by a state interested in
changing the political status quo" (Arms Race). The arms race was a major rearmament between the
USSR and the United States. Each country was producing new weapons at an alarming rate to be
better than the other. The newly created nuclear weapons were a major playing force for the

Black Mirror : A Look Into Memory
Black Mirror: A Look Into Memory's Darkest Chambers, How Technology and Science–Fiction are
Merging like Never Before Andrea C. Hey University of San Francisco, 2017
2
Introduction Science–fiction writers have been intrigued by ideas of technology interlaced with
human memory for hundreds of years. Explored extensively throughout the history of science
fiction, the intermingling of memory and technology has played an imperative role in shaping
modern technological advances. Memory technology has been studied and philosophized within the
world of science–fiction. Emerging from the fringes of counter–culture, memory and technology are
being investigated in media more than ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Geostationary satellites now travel on paths known as the Clarke Orbit (EETimes).

Perhaps one of the clearest, most in–depth modern explorations of memory and technology in
science–fiction to date can be seen within the series Black Mirror. Black Mirror, a show which
premiered in 2011, is a Netflix original set in a near–future that is almost identical to that of today's
world. Black Mirror is a non–linear show with each episode featuring a separate set of characters.
While the series is set in a strikingly ominous near–future world, each episode follows different sets
of characters who have access to completely different types of memory technologies and live in
vastly diverse communities with dissimilar customs and ways of life. Black Mirror focuses
specifically on the uses and misuses of technology, with quite a few episodes about the ways in
which technology could potentially influence our memories and understandings of history. Using
textual and content analysis, I aim to answer the question: How does Black Mirror address memory
through its use of technological advancement? In address to my question, I will apply memory
studies to three Black Mirror episodes, "The Entire History of You" (2011), "Be Right Back" (2013),
and "San Junipero" (2016). Each episode marks a separate section of my essay where I apply
memory studies and theories, and

The Importance Of The Liberal Arts
"Oh, you are a liberal arts major. Doesn't that mean you are working at a coffee shop?" and "You
should probably have a backup plan" are only two of the hundreds of mocking phrases heard by
students studying in the liberal arts. The public has this misconception that majoring in the liberal
arts is a mistake, and a degree in this field correlates directly to low job prospects and an even lower
income. In comparison to STEM majors of science, technology, engineering, and math, who appear
to offer more to society, the humanities and social sciences are perceived as unimportant and
negligible. As a result, the liberal arts bear constant ridicule in the United States exemplified by the
public's mockery of the false perceptions of vocational failure surrounding the program of study.
Nevertheless, Allan Bloom, author of The Closing of the American Mind: How Higher Education
Has Failed Democracy and Impoverished the Souls of Today's Students, states that it is the liberal
arts–most notably the humanities and social sciences–that offer the necessary background
knowledge to improve society. Through the rise in liberal arts, students will begin to formulate new
ideas and values that will resurrect the country's impoverished souls and values. Similarly, Corey
Robin, author of The Reactionary Mind: Conservatism from Edmund Burke to Sarah Palin, asserts
that comprehending the liberal arts and correctly applying the major ideas of philosophy, history,
and various social sciences is

Fingerprints Thesis Statement
Section I: Thesis Statement Fingerprints are the most common form to identify people due to the
unique qualities that is different for every person not even identical twins carry the same fingerprint.
So because of this, fingerprint evidence has become a staple of criminal investigations. There is a
rich history of fingerprints being used, it can be traced back to ancient times and had a variety of
different uses. The science behind fingerprints explains why they are unique, the different patterns
that are comprised on the fingers and lastly the different types of prints there are and what makes
them different from one another. What I will begin to discuss in this paper begins with history and
basic science of fingerprints, with the process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Babylon the citizens used fingerprints as a method to sign their identity on clay tablets. In the
year 220 the Chinese were the first to use ink prints, but after that the fingerprints had been forgotten
for over hundreds of years. In 1686 Malpighius wrote the describing of the ridges on fingerprints but
soon after stopped at time. "Finally, in 1823 J.E. Purkinje uncovered that it was possible to classify
fingerprints and from there on the use fingerprints had begun (Forensic Medicine)." In 1858 Sir
William Herschel demanded his laborers to us their fingerprints instead of signatures as their
consent on contracts while in India, later in 1877 he had advised for taking the prints of prisoners.
Doctor Henry Faulds published a piece on the use of fingerprinting in England 1880 and then two
years later Gilbert Thompson use thumbprints to avoid fraud in the United States on check. In
Francis Galton had created a classification system for fingerprints working on a past principle from
Sir William Herschel. During the years of 1901 and 1920 many countries started to use fingerprints
and in America in 1924 in America, the FBI had launched the identification division. In general, it
has been coming a long way but eventually science and technology had evolved far enough for
fingerprinting to become an important forensic science tool. To the point where now there are
databases that contain over millions of fingerprint images that are available for comparison and

Impact Of The Enlightenment
The ideas of the Enlightenment movement in Europe to America has held lasting impacts on the
United States throughout its history. Enlightenment philosophy has been assimilated into American
culture through the spread and attachment of ideas promoted by this movement. The U.S. founding
fathers, such as Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, paid close attention to these new ideas and
concepts being shown through the Enlightenment to use them as a representation of the new nation.
Ideas and challenges change and are expressed through thinkers of this movement took shape in the
culture and minds of Americans politically, economically, and scientifically from the 18th century to
the 20th century. "Aufklaerung" is German for the word enlightenment. This is directly translated
and defined as "clearing up". This explains the vision behind the Enlightenment movement. Before
these beliefs were carried to the United States, the movement was encouraged by the Protestant
Reformation. They wanted others to question the Catholic Church and question what they believe
there life should be. The movement led to numerous books, essays, inventions, scientific
discoveries, laws, wars and revolutions. Originally the ideas behind the enlightenment was to
question the traditional authority and to embrace the notion that humanity could be improved
through rational change. Although these are the traditional ideals, not all Enlightenment Thinkers
agreed on all aspects. Locke differed from hume,

Space Race Impact On History
We have learned a lot of things about history. We learn things like who was the first man to set foot

learned is why these things happened and what they made an impact on. There are many things in
history that have made a great impact on our daily life or just our life and the lives before us in
general. The Space Race was one of the things that impacted our lives by having our education in
STEM and our space technology enhanced. The Space Race took place in 1955 during the Cold War

The Impact of the Space Race on Modern America Since the beginning of time, man has been

studies that really made the Mayans stand out, were the ones that they used to create a complex

With the Soviet?s ongoing ?wins? during the beginning of the Race, one of the ideas behind their
success was that they had increased science and maths education, especially for children and young
adults in school. Which would naturally encourage interest in technology, and the continuation of
scientific discovery in the next generation. The Space Race still stands as one of the greatest
examples of what our one country can accomplish if they have the strong motivation and mindset
that they need. The United States has always been an independent, and competitive country.
Whether the USSR gave us a nuclear war threat, or the threat of becoming greater than we were (in
the form of space knowledge and technology that is), we stood strong and fought against it. It stands
as an illustration for what innovation can do to push us into an unknown world of even more
advanced scientific knowledge. The Space Race pushed our country into a new era, through

has transformed American culture into what it is today. Through advancements in the 1950's up until
the 2000's one can see the dramatic alteration each generation has gone through. From tech boom in
the late 1950's, to the Apollo mission in the late 1960's, up until the "CNN effect," one can see how
each technological advancement has effected American Society, and why the late 1950's, to early
1960's had the most transformative impact on the society we see today. During the baby boom years

By applying a
historical lense, readers can observe that H.G Wells and Ray Bradbury are afraid of modernising
technology due to their fear of bad ethics.

science. H.G. Wells confronts

My Goals For Education In Education
It is my conviction that the meaning of life does not dwell in the length of time that one can live or
the material abundance that one can acquire, but in the richness and the wonderfulness of life itself.
With the increase of my age, many things in my life have changed. But one thing remains constant,
that is, I will consistently insist on doing what I like to do and hope that my endeavors can be
valuable to the life of others. I see this as the only way whereby I can realize the value of my life.
My undergraduate study focused on economics and I achieved remarkable scholastic performance in
this field. My GPA is 3.44 (my GRE score is 2020 and TOEFL–––– ). For four consecutive years of
my undergraduate study, I received scholarships for my distinguished academic performance. Due to
my equally prominent performance in extracurricular activities I was conferred on the Outstanding
Student in Campus Activities. However, honestly speaking, my real interest lies not in economics,
but in education. Ever since I was a primary school student, I had cherished a strong desire for a
teaching career exemplified by my teachers. In the actual teaching career that I embarked on upon
my graduating from university, I have become increasingly aware that the existing educational
conditions in China are far from satisfactory. The backward teaching methodology and the
prevailing pedagogical ideology have rendered Chinese education out of place with the modern

And both forms of entertainment of radio and television broadcast has much to do with sound
behavior. And this video being heavily integrated with sound, an aspect of physics. To my belief,
this video was design to persuade or to catch the interest of young Americans to be familiar or to
pursue a life into STEM fields. To encourage students to learn math, science, physic, engineering.
To change the world in the hearth of America. Examining the short film, the video only displays a
young male that seems to be in his early 20's and a potential teenager or possibly younger than that
has all of a sudden taken an interested in to the physics of sound. There is absolutely no female
presence in this video. With that mentioned, during this time period, woman were highly encouraged
to be the perfect house wife. It was not common for woman to pursue a career when the common
ideal was that men would be the breadwinners. As said by at the time, Vice President Richard Nixon
"I think this attitude towards woman is universal." So from a perspective of the second in command
of the United States, this video was following a social construct in the appropriate time period.
Which personally I am against this solid vigorous form of gender role. I would be joyfully to see
woman taking an interest in science rather than a stigma of a housewife. In Elaine Tyler May's book,

The Technological Revolution
Due to continuous innovations, the American view of science and technology is constantly
fluctuating. The ever–evolving image of science and technology in the United States is usually due
to how the most recent developments in science and technology contribute, whether in a perceived
positive of negative light. In times such as war, where technology essentially determines the
outcome, the public's perception of technology becomes essential, as well as the implementation of
said technology. Many other factors are pertinent in determining the way the public identifies
science and technology. After World War II and the evolution of nuclear weapons because of the

Many Americans feared that "the scientific and engineering research and development that the
military–industrial complex channeled into the work of death stole resources from the civilian needs
of a country struggling with industrial decline, social inequality, persistent poverty, and
environmental degradation" (Pursell 299). Due to the prospect of misusing advanced science and
technology to destroy and act violently instead of aiding the ailing nation, many Americans viewed
innovation as cause for malevolent acts. Along with historical events, the changing ideas of
development and progress after World War II led to the altering image of science and technology.
Following World War II, there was an increased stress placed on transportation and urbanization
coinciding with the period of technological evolution. This revolution in transportation led to the
emergence and rise of automation. Automation is [in it's most pervasive form] "anything
significantly more automatic than previously existed obscured the technological basis of the change"
(Pursell 287). Although this automation increased efficiency and productiveness, there were some
major apprehensions associated with it. Firstly, many processes are present within one plant, and if
this plant were to fail at a moment's notice, every process would be effected thus crashing the entire
system. Secondly, computers critically heightened the control over vast range of products,

The Popularity of Science Fiction
"Science fiction is the major non–realistic mode of imaginative creation of the human age. It is the
principal cultural way humans locate themselves imaginatively in time and space" (Franklin 2).
Science fiction's domain is based on the possible. It ranges from the present Earth the human mind
knows to the limits of any possible universes the human imagination can project, whether its the
past, present, future, or alternative time–space continuums (Franklin 1). Science fiction embraces
the American ideology of technological utopianism such as beliefs that technological advances will

American science fiction writer and editor, John W. Campbell was a true intellectual. "His hierarchy
of knowledge included physics, chemistry, astronomy––sciences in which laws are mathematically
verifiable, biological science––disciplines which are in part descriptive or impure because they deal
with living creatures, social sciences such as anthropology, economics, political science, and
experimental psychology, and humanities such as theology, philosophy, and clinical psychology"
(Science 1). His beliefs reflected in the fiction he chose to write (Science 2). He believed that the
universe was not originally argumentative to mankind and that human action and decisions counted
in the universe (Science 1). Campbell wanted smooth, serious, written fiction that explored the
future of science and technology for intelligent adult readers (Silverberg 1), accordingly, he
inaugurated and shaped the Golden Age of Science Fiction using his magazine issue of Astounding
as his basis.
Astounding included theories about aliens, and also beliefs that space travel was possible (Science
1). Campbell also encouraged and taught some of science fiction's strongest genre writers.

What Components Bring Up Competitive Industries?
In the past three decades, China has become one of the major contributors to science and
technology.1 Currently China employs an increasingly large labor force of scientists and engineers
at high earnings, and produces more science and engineering degrees than the United States at all
levels, most in bachelors.1 Accounting for 35–75% of the world's scientific activities, the United
States is in jeopardy of losing its scientific dominance to China, thus, facing negative economic
consequences.2 This news is astonishing given China's previous and limited contributions to
science, producing only 1% of top–cited scientific publications over the past several centuries.1
However, due to a combination of economic and social changes over the past four decades, China
has not only strengthened their science and technology role, but made them one of the leading
competitors on a global market scale.1
What components bring up competitive industries? A high–tech industry is, broadly speaking, an
industry to which its success largely depends on its ability to keep up with rapid innovations in
products or production process– or even both.2 Aspects like Microelectronics, biotechnology, new
materials, telecommunications, civilian aviation, robotics plus machine tools, and computers
hardware and software are all considered to be crucial elements to success in the current, global
level of competition.2 If referring to China's technological and scientific development over the

  • 1. Bell Laboratory Accomplishments Bell Labs was the most inventive scientific organization in history. It was Silicon Valley before there was Silicon Valley. They had countless fields of science and engineering as well as the world's best scientists and engineers underneath one roof. People like Mervin Kelly, Claude Shannon, the Solid– State Team, John R. Pierce and Dennis Ritchie were integral parts of this incredible institution. The brightest minds collaborated to develop new technologies that changed the world. Now is the time to tell its story. • 3. Essay On The Space Race There is only so much you can explore on Earth, Space is infinite. The Space Race was a historical competition between the Soviet Union and the United States for the first humans to reach the moon. Taking place during 1957–1975, the Space Race showcased the determination between the two nations to display who had the superior science and technology knowledge. After the Russians created the first satellite, the United States felt threatened that the Soviet Union would have military control over space and began to race against their rivals. The money spent on the space race was a legitimate use of government funds because it showed the world which country had the best technology and science, shown the significance of rocket science for use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The thought that the other nation would have complete military control over the space surrounding Earth was threatening motivating them to get there first. The same rockets that were used to get to the moon were able to be changed into a very powerful, explosive–tip rockets. "Von Braun's V–2s caused around 2,750 civilian deaths; one single V–2 rocket that landed on a Woolworth's store killed 160 Londoners."(The Space Race) With the advancement of rocket technology from the Space Race, the U.S and Soviets military were able to make weapons of destruction that could kill thousands of people and could not be shot down due to how new they were and the little knowledge from around the world about them. Although military advancements were a very important reason why the Space Race was worth funding, space exploration was also very important. Lastly, space exploration. The Space Race kickstarted the exploration of space. While rushing to get an American on the Moon, we learned much about the technicalities of space. While working on the competition, Eisenhower created NASA, which is still around and alive today "That same year, President Dwight Eisenhower signed a public order creating the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a federal agency dedicated to space exploration."(History.com ... Native American Struggles Research Paper Sigi Lopez Professor Ayik WRI 001 – SEC. 37 October 7, 2015 Struggling Native Americans and Technical Careers According to a study done by the Association of Computing Machinery "Native Americans that graduated in computer science was less than one percent" in 2009 (Varma). Native American communities have suffered oppression by the United States government. Today we can see that this struggle is still present Native Americans, especially young generations are not following the technological advancement that the rest of America is following. Native American students don't have enough resources to expand on careers that follow a science or engineering subject. Native Americans have little interest in following a career in STEM majors since they don't have a lot of indication on were they can get advice (Van Cooten). • 9. The Era Of Optimism Based On The United States Essay The era of optimism based on the belief that science and technology would continue to improve the lives of the earth's population. Is a belief that still exists and widely believed today. Though World War 1 was impactful it didn't alter people's perception on the importance of science and technology in our society. This is shown in the technological outcomes that the war essentially produced. Like the use of machine guns, airplanes and other artillery's. Also World War 1 greatly affected the political, spiritual and cultural development of the United States, India and Germany. The United States was impacted greatly because of the war. The United States at the time under President Wilson had initially decided to stay out of the war because it had nothing to do with them. However, in 1917 when a German Submarine attached U.S shipments in order to encourage Mexico to declare war. The war is one that will remain heavily engraved in history. More than 11 million solders died and many civilians died too due to hunger and disease. World War 1 caused a major social impact of the war is what caused the "sense of loss innocence" causing the emergence of the "lost generation" where poets, writers and artists came out to discuss the war experience. Economically the United States became a superpower in the world. The War effort increased commerce and the GDP greatly. Also as a result of the war wages in industries rose by about 20 percent. • 11. The Effects Of Space Travel In The Movie Apollo 13 After watching the movie Apollo 13, all I can take away is irritation, several unanswered questions, and poorly explained minute details relating to traveling in space. While some details are easy to understand, such as the effects of gravity on weight and the effects of space travel on the human body, many instances of scientific references are made under the presumption that the viewer understands what is being said. Along with the inability to detail the process of achieving space travel, the details they did include were often inaccurate, for example the display of evident sexism. While this movie did roughly indulge in the chronicles of previous space missions and the tension between the United States and Russia in the on going "Space Race", there is very little mention of the science behind the mission, making this more of a poorly represented history movie than a scientific examination into the world of NASA, the Kennedy Space Center, and the mission of Apollo 13. Before explaining inconsistencies in the movie's portrayal of the Apollo 13 mission, it can be said that it had brief shining moments of informative narration. One of these highlights is the references made to the ongoing fight between Russia and the United States over who will conquer in technological advancements. The beginning of the movie really detailed why it was important for the astronauts and scientists involved in the Apollo 13 mission to complete another trip to the moon. Other small inquiries ... Modern Day China Is The Foundation Of Any Civilization Sara Brown Research Paper Dr. Amy Alexander 1,630 Words Composition & Rhetoric II 19 March 2017 East Meets West Education is the foundation of any civilization. Without it, how will it prosper with illiterate citizens? For many years China has had its gates closed off to the western world. Now, China is slowly opening its arms to the west starting with allowing western teachers to teach English in the country. Many teachers from countries like America, England, and France are moving to China to teach. In order to be adequately prepared American teachers who plan to teach in China must understand the history underlying the education, the pedagogical techniques, and the effects on the student. Instead, the schools emphasize that if a student is good at something they do it for the country even if they don 't enjoy it. Although, this practice is a communistic belief it is also a Confucius belief. This is opposite to the creative individualized instruction that twenty–first–century western teachers are being taught. Confucianism is "the system of ethics, education, and statesmanship taught by Confucius and his disciples, stressing love for humanity, ancestor worship, reverence for parents, and harmony in thought and conduct." (Dictionary.com) In China, Confucianism is everywhere. That includes their school system. Simon Margasin, Director of the Centre for Global Higher Education, explains that there are four main points of Confucianism: (1) strong nation–state (2) Families invest in the education of their child (3) "one chance" national exams– high competition (4) public investment in research. (Margison) With taking into consideration the history of China, the pedagogical techniques of China have largely been influenced. In China, every student learns the same thing which is based on the concept of STEM. (Bharucha) STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. (U.S. Department of Education) In China, there is no teaching the student. It is teaching the subject. This is similar to the teaching practices found in Western upper grades. ... • 17. The Evolution of Forensic Science Evolution of Forensic Science Forensic science is a broad term that refers to the use of science or technology in a court room environment. Forensic science plays an important role in modern popular culture; the police procedural is highly dependent upon cutting–edge forensic science. Moreover, many people are aware of the impact of DNA testing on the modern criminal justice landscape. However, forensic science actually predates many modern scientific advances; almost as long as there have been controversies, there has been some type of forensic science. The first documented autopsy was performed by the physician Antistius on Julius Caesar in 44 B.C. (Martinez, 2012). He examined Caesar's body and discovered that of his 23 stab wounds, only one of them proved fatal. The Roman history of forensics continued, and in 1,000 A.D. a Roman attorney was able to use bloody palm prints to prove that his client had been framed for murder (Martinez, 2012). In 1248, a Chinese book described how to distinguish between different causes of death (Bellis, 2012). Up until that point, the proof that people used forensic science is inconsistent, but it seems highly unlikely that the recorded instances are the only instances where forensic science was used. In the 1540s, Ambroise Paré , a French surgeon, began examining how gunshot wounds and arrows impacted internal organs. He published a book, and that book is considered the beginning of modern forensic pathology (Martinez, 2012). In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Causes Of The Sputnik And The Cold War? Russia launched Sputnik, a satellite to orbit the earth, into outer space on October 4th, 1957. With tensions already running high in the Cold War, Americans panicked at the thought of the Russians building space and nuclear energy, fearing it could be used on them. The conflict now called the Space Race resulted in Americans creating NASA and pushing the sciences in school. Well before Russia thought about launching Sputnik into space, there had been quite a bit of tension between America and the Soviet Union. The two countries had been allies in World War II, but they had a very tense relationship with one another. Americans were leery with the communist government that the Soviets had and their leader, Joseph Stalin. The Soviets despised the fact that America refused to acknowledge the USSR as an actual international society. With this being said, by the time World War II was ended and over with, each country's hatred grew creating an overpowering sense of spite and belligerence. Therefore, these tensions led to the start of the Cold War between America and the Soviet Union. The Cold War was an atomic age, meaning that the two countries developed and tested atomic weapons like the ones used during World War II, which forged stakes that were severely high. The Cold War led to advancements in not only atomic weapons or just weapons in general, but advancements in technology, which we see with the launch of Sputnik. • 45. A New History After The War A New History After the War World War II was considered to be a watershed event in history by many historians. A watershed event is commonly referred to as an "event or period marking a turning point in a course of action or state of affairs". World War II was an event that changed history and the aftermath wrecked most ideals of the future before the war. After the war every party wanted to not repeat this war, so instead of peace, the world rearmed with new technologies and nationalistic racism to prevent any form of the war from happening again. This turned into conflicts and fights that were more globalized than ever before. This war fueled another conflict that dictated how the world would operate, which was the Cold War. The cold war was the start of the major changes in human history. Two important events that occurred in it was the arms race and space race. "An arms race denotes a rapid increase in the quantity or quality of instruments of military power by rival states in peacetime. A close examination of the historical evidence reveals a different picture. Political purposes almost always drive and govern arms races. It is common for a major race to be initiated by a state interested in changing the political status quo" (Arms Race). The arms race was a major rearmament between the USSR and the United States. The idea of being invisible has always been in the imaginations of children and regarded as a cool science. H.G. Wells confronts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. My Goals For Education In Education It is my conviction that the meaning of life does not dwell in the length of time that one can live or the material abundance that one can acquire, but in the richness and the wonderfulness of life itself. With the increase of my age, many things in my life have changed. But one thing remains constant, that is, I will consistently insist on doing what I like to do and hope that my endeavors can be valuable to the life of others. I see this as the only way whereby I can realize the value of my life. My undergraduate study focused on economics and I achieved remarkable scholastic performance in this field. My GPA is 3.44 (my GRE score is 2020 and TOEFL–––– ). For four consecutive years of my undergraduate study, I received scholarships for my distinguished academic performance. Due to my equally prominent performance in extracurricular activities I was conferred on the Outstanding Student in Campus Activities. However, honestly speaking, my real interest lies not in economics, but in education. Ever since I was a primary school student, I had cherished a strong desire for a teaching career exemplified by my teachers. In the actual teaching career that I embarked on upon my graduating from university, I have become increasingly aware that the existing educational conditions in China are far from satisfactory. The backward teaching methodology and the prevailing pedagogical ideology have rendered Chinese education out of place with the modern international development in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. The Coronet Instructional Film That I Would Be Analyzing... The coronet instructional film that I would be analyzing is the short film, Nature of Sound (1948). An informative short film that describes the behavior of sound with visuals, difficult concepts, and experiments. This film interest me not only because I, myself, a student that has taken higher end physics courses but because why is a video as nature of Sound featuring certain aspects as it is representing; and who are the targeted audience. Aspects such as, there are only male being featured in the film. Other perspectives is that the demonstrators are extremely young; especially the young boy taking an interested into potential in depth physic. The Nature of Sound can be additionally further analyzed based off the time that is was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And both forms of entertainment of radio and television broadcast has much to do with sound behavior. And this video being heavily integrated with sound, an aspect of physics. To my belief, this video was design to persuade or to catch the interest of young Americans to be familiar or to pursue a life into STEM fields. To encourage students to learn math, science, physic, engineering. To change the world in the hearth of America. Examining the short film, the video only displays a young male that seems to be in his early 20's and a potential teenager or possibly younger than that has all of a sudden taken an interested in to the physics of sound. There is absolutely no female presence in this video. With that mentioned, during this time period, woman were highly encouraged to be the perfect house wife. It was not common for woman to pursue a career when the common ideal was that men would be the breadwinners. As said by at the time, Vice President Richard Nixon "I think this attitude towards woman is universal." So from a perspective of the second in command of the United States, this video was following a social construct in the appropriate time period. Which personally I am against this solid vigorous form of gender role. I would be joyfully to see woman taking an interest in science rather than a stigma of a housewife. In Elaine Tyler May's book, quote "Many who gave their marriages high ratings had actually resigned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. The Technological Revolution Due to continuous innovations, the American view of science and technology is constantly fluctuating. The ever–evolving image of science and technology in the United States is usually due to how the most recent developments in science and technology contribute, whether in a perceived positive of negative light. In times such as war, where technology essentially determines the outcome, the public's perception of technology becomes essential, as well as the implementation of said technology. Many other factors are pertinent in determining the way the public identifies science and technology. After World War II and the evolution of nuclear weapons because of the Manhattan Project, the image of science and technology evolved in the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many Americans feared that "the scientific and engineering research and development that the military–industrial complex channeled into the work of death stole resources from the civilian needs of a country struggling with industrial decline, social inequality, persistent poverty, and environmental degradation" (Pursell 299). Due to the prospect of misusing advanced science and technology to destroy and act violently instead of aiding the ailing nation, many Americans viewed innovation as cause for malevolent acts. Along with historical events, the changing ideas of development and progress after World War II led to the altering image of science and technology. Following World War II, there was an increased stress placed on transportation and urbanization coinciding with the period of technological evolution. This revolution in transportation led to the emergence and rise of automation. Automation is [in it's most pervasive form] "anything significantly more automatic than previously existed obscured the technological basis of the change" (Pursell 287). Although this automation increased efficiency and productiveness, there were some major apprehensions associated with it. Firstly, many processes are present within one plant, and if this plant were to fail at a moment's notice, every process would be effected thus crashing the entire system. Secondly, computers critically heightened the control over vast range of products, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. The Popularity of Science Fiction "Science fiction is the major non–realistic mode of imaginative creation of the human age. It is the principal cultural way humans locate themselves imaginatively in time and space" (Franklin 2). Science fiction's domain is based on the possible. It ranges from the present Earth the human mind knows to the limits of any possible universes the human imagination can project, whether its the past, present, future, or alternative time–space continuums (Franklin 1). Science fiction embraces the American ideology of technological utopianism such as beliefs that technological advances will improve human and social cultural relations fiercely. It also included the imagination of alternative worlds where current developments like social, political, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... American science fiction writer and editor, John W. Campbell was a true intellectual. "His hierarchy of knowledge included physics, chemistry, astronomy––sciences in which laws are mathematically verifiable, biological science––disciplines which are in part descriptive or impure because they deal with living creatures, social sciences such as anthropology, economics, political science, and experimental psychology, and humanities such as theology, philosophy, and clinical psychology" (Science 1). His beliefs reflected in the fiction he chose to write (Science 2). He believed that the universe was not originally argumentative to mankind and that human action and decisions counted in the universe (Science 1). Campbell wanted smooth, serious, written fiction that explored the future of science and technology for intelligent adult readers (Silverberg 1), accordingly, he inaugurated and shaped the Golden Age of Science Fiction using his magazine issue of Astounding as his basis. Astounding included theories about aliens, and also beliefs that space travel was possible (Science 1). Campbell also encouraged and taught some of science fiction's strongest genre writers. "In 1944, Campbell published "Deadline" by Cleve Cartmill, dealing with the explosion of an atomic bomb. When it was investigated by the FBI, Campbell argued that all the factual information in the story was available in pre–war unclassified ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. What Components Bring Up Competitive Industries? In the past three decades, China has become one of the major contributors to science and technology.1 Currently China employs an increasingly large labor force of scientists and engineers at high earnings, and produces more science and engineering degrees than the United States at all levels, most in bachelors.1 Accounting for 35–75% of the world's scientific activities, the United States is in jeopardy of losing its scientific dominance to China, thus, facing negative economic consequences.2 This news is astonishing given China's previous and limited contributions to science, producing only 1% of top–cited scientific publications over the past several centuries.1 However, due to a combination of economic and social changes over the past four decades, China has not only strengthened their science and technology role, but made them one of the leading competitors on a global market scale.1 What components bring up competitive industries? A high–tech industry is, broadly speaking, an industry to which its success largely depends on its ability to keep up with rapid innovations in products or production process– or even both.2 Aspects like Microelectronics, biotechnology, new materials, telecommunications, civilian aviation, robotics plus machine tools, and computers hardware and software are all considered to be crucial elements to success in the current, global level of competition.2 If referring to China's technological and scientific development over the course of 1900 to ...
