Struggling Native Americans and Technical Careers
According to a study done by the Association of Computing Machinery "Native Americans that
graduated in computer science was less than one percent" in 2009 (Varma). Native American
communities have suffered oppression by the United States government. Today we can see that this
struggle is still present Native Americans, especially young generations are not following the
technological advancement that the rest of America is following. Native American students don't
have enough resources to expand on careers that follow a science or engineering subject. Native
Americans have little interest in following a career in STEM majors since they don't have a lot of

The era of optimism based on the belief that science and technology would continue to improve the
lives of the earth's population. Is a belief that still exists and widely believed today. Though World
War 1 was impactful it didn't alter people's perception on the importance of science and technology

The Effects Of Space Travel In The Movie Apollo 13
After watching the movie Apollo 13, all I can take away is irritation, several unanswered questions,
and poorly explained minute details relating to traveling in space. While some details are easy to
understand, such as the effects of gravity on weight and the effects of space travel on the human
body, many instances of scientific references are made under the presumption that the viewer
understands what is being said. Along with the inability to detail the process of achieving space
travel, the details they did include were often inaccurate, for example the display of evident sexism.
While this movie did roughly indulge in the chronicles of previous space missions and the tension
between the United States and Russia in the on going "Space Race", there is very little mention of
the science behind the mission, making this more of a poorly represented history movie than a
scientific examination into the world of NASA, the Kennedy Space Center, and the mission of
Apollo 13. Before explaining inconsistencies in the movie's portrayal of the Apollo 13 mission, it
can be said that it had brief shining moments of informative narration. One of these highlights is the
references made to the ongoing fight between Russia and the United States over who will conquer in
technological advancements. The beginning of the movie really detailed why it was important for
the astronauts and scientists involved in the Apollo 13 mission to complete another trip to the moon.

Communism is shown through the lack of individual and creative growth of the student. Instead, the
schools emphasize that if a student is good at something they do it for the country even if they don 't
enjoy it. Although, this practice is a communistic belief it is also a Confucius belief. This is opposite

Evolution of Forensic Science Forensic science is a broad term that refers to the use of science or
technology in a court room environment. Forensic science plays an important role in modern
popular culture; the police procedural is highly dependent upon cutting–edge forensic science.
Moreover, many people are aware of the impact of DNA testing on the modern criminal justice
landscape. However, forensic science actually predates many modern scientific advances; almost as
long as there have been controversies, there has been some type of forensic science. The first
documented autopsy was performed by the physician Antistius on Julius Caesar in 44 B.C.
(Martinez, 2012). He examined Caesar's body and discovered that of his 23 stab wounds, only one
of them proved fatal. The Roman history of forensics continued, and in 1,000 A.D. a Roman
attorney was able to use bloody palm prints to prove that his client had been framed for murder
(Martinez, 2012). In 1248, a Chinese book described how to distinguish between different causes of
death (Bellis, 2012). Up until that point, the proof that people used forensic science is inconsistent,
but it seems highly unlikely that the recorded instances are the only instances where forensic science
was used. In the 1540s, Ambroise ParÃ© , a French surgeon, began examining how gunshot wounds
and arrows impacted internal organs. He published a book, and that book is considered the

Russia launched Sputnik, a satellite to orbit the earth, into outer space on October 4th, 1957. With
tensions already running high in the Cold War, Americans panicked at the thought of the Russians
building space and nuclear energy, fearing it could be used on them. The conflict now called the
Space Race resulted in Americans creating NASA and pushing the sciences in school.
Well before Russia thought about launching Sputnik into space, there had been quite a bit of tension
between America and the Soviet Union. The two countries had been allies in World War II, but they
had a very tense relationship with one another. Americans were leery with the communist
government that the Soviets had and their leader, Joseph Stalin. The Soviets despised the fact that
America refused to acknowledge the USSR as an actual international society. With this being said,
by the time World War II was ended and over with, each country's hatred grew creating an
overpowering sense of spite and belligerence. Therefore, these tensions led to the start of the Cold
War between America and the Soviet Union. The Cold War was an atomic age, meaning that the two
countries developed and tested atomic weapons like the ones used during World War II, which
forged stakes that were severely high. The Cold War led to advancements in not only atomic
weapons or just weapons in general, but advancements in technology, which we see with the launch
of Sputnik.

World War II was considered to be a watershed event in history by many historians. A watershed
event is commonly referred to as an "event or period marking a turning point in a course of action or
state of affairs". World War II was an event that changed history and the aftermath wrecked most

Perhaps one of the clearest, most in–depth modern explorations of memory and technology in
science–fiction to date can be seen within the series Black Mirror. Black Mirror, a show which
premiered in 2011, is a Netflix original set in a near–future that is almost identical to that of today's
world. Black Mirror is a non–linear show with each episode featuring a separate set of characters.
While the series is set in a strikingly ominous near–future world, each episode follows different sets
of characters who have access to completely different types of memory technologies and live in
vastly diverse communities with dissimilar customs and ways of life. Black Mirror focuses
specifically on the uses and misuses of technology, with quite a few episodes about the ways in
which technology could potentially influence our memories and understandings of history. Using
textual and content analysis, I aim to answer the question: How does Black Mirror address memory
through its use of technological advancement? In address to my question, I will apply memory
studies to three Black Mirror episodes, "The Entire History of You" (2011), "Be Right Back" (2013),

American science fiction writer and editor, John W. Campbell was a true intellectual. "His hierarchy
of knowledge included physics, chemistry, astronomy––sciences in which laws are mathematically
verifiable, biological science––disciplines which are in part descriptive or impure because they deal
with living creatures, social sciences such as anthropology, economics, political science, and
experimental psychology, and humanities such as theology, philosophy, and clinical psychology"

In the past three decades, China has become one of the major contributors to science and
technology.1 Currently China employs an increasingly large labor force of scientists and engineers
at high earnings, and produces more science and engineering degrees than the United States at all
