Persuasive Essay About Welding
A job in the blazing hot sun doesn't seem like the best job in the world to some but with welding it
has its pros. After comparing Texas State Technical College, Texas State University of San Marcos,
and Northwest Louisiana Technical College based on my criteria of work ethic, hands on work, and
being close to home would be the best choice in helping pursue a career in welding. Despite the
work conditions not many people know what a career in welding requires. People don't think that a
career in welding is an ideal because they don't think it a money making job and that you work all

Comparison Of Kinesology And San Jose State University
Many colleges in the United States offer Kinesiology as a stand alone major. Each college has
specific study of kinesiology it covers for a specific field the student wants to work in for his or her
professional career. However, I would like to discuss the overall major of kinesiology and what
specific field the institution helps students transition from education to profession. The two colleges
we will take a look at is California Polytechnic State University, in San Luis Obispo, and San Jose
State University's kinesiology program. The difference in the two institutions is that San Jose State
University goes by semester system while California Polytechnic State University goes by quarter
system. Let me begin with San Jose State's kinesiology

I have been a San Jose State University student for 4 years now, and over the course of my learning
I have grown and learned more than I thought possible. I came to SJSU knowing that English was
my least favorite subject; I consistently dreaded writing assignments professors would assign in
class. Going through English 1B has taught me to face my fears about writing papers, whether they
are short reviews or extensive research papers, I have become more comfortable in writing. I have
learned how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to
the things I don't know. Most importantly I have learned that revision is essential. I have always
been a thinker, but throughout my course work, I have greatly ... Show more content on

By critically thinking and researching during the course work of writing my papers, I found that
putting direct quotations of my sources into my paper was the method I chose over others. For
example, the quote used in my Peer Review Essay #1 "Shazam works because every song generates
something like a "fingerprint"... Shazam stores that fingerprint for tens of millions of songs, and
then matches (or tries to) with what's coming out of the speaker" (Garling). I found that by using
direct quotes like this one into my papers instead of paraphrasing them, made my essay stronger. I
personally feel that by using a direct quote of a person who is more creditable than me creates a
sense of assurance for the reader, knowing that it is a creditable source. I was able to use the quote
directly and weave the information into my essay by supporting the direct quote given with my own
thoughts. This allowed me to better voice my opinion on the topic I was writing about. One of the
main reasons I believe my writing has become stronger is due to revision. I always knew revision
was an important step in the writing process, but in the past I always assumed that my papers needed
no revision, I was wrong. The feedback that was given to me by my peers and professor was
extremely helpful. A few of the comments given to me by my peers include, "The uses of quotes in
your essay are fine. The

Since all locations handle their financial and accounting systems, and these systems do not interact

Riodran Manufacturing, Inc. (2013) consolidating the information into the corporate San Jose office
is labor intensive and it can take fifteen to twenty days after the end of the month to generate
company financials such as profit and loss and balance statements. It is necessary to perform audits
each month and it is very labor intensive as well as costly for the company to perform. Compliance
with government reports and requirements is extremely challenging due to the incompatibility of
software. This is not an efficient way to run a fortune 1000 company that employs hundreds of
employees worldwide. This leaves the company vulnerable to inaccurate data entry and miss–
transmitted data. The recommendation I would give to Riodran Manufacturing regarding their
software, information and hardware systems would be to hire an outside technology company that
specializes in designing a seamless information technology systems. To use or design an enterprise
resource planning information software program that can be utilized by every location and that
would allow them to network all locations into one server. Of course there would be a transition

The At San Jose State University Music Hall
This performance was located at San Jose State University Music Hall. Most of the audience wore
informal attires(dressed casually). The other audience were members from the San Jose State
Symphony Orchestra, SJYCO Senior Youth Orchestra, and Ad Lib Orchestra who wore formal
attires. Throughout the concert, I was somewhat a casual listener and mostly a referential listener. I
was somewhat a casual listener because I didn't know the name of the artist or piece, however, I paid
attention to the music. I considered myself a referential listener because, while I was hearing the
presto tempo and crescendo dynamic, I pictured Mickey Mouse running away from an evil monster.
When the tempo suddenly changed from presto to adagio and the dynamic changed from crescendo
to piano, I imagined a turn of events. The monster returning to its lair and the darkness fading.
Flowers growing around Mickey Mouse. The sun appearing and smiling in the sky. I pictured these
memories because ever since I was a kid, I've watched black and white Mickey Mouse cartoons with
the orchestra music playing in the background. As a result, I was a referential listener. I wasn't a
perceptive listener because this event was my first musical performance I've ever attended and I was
so into the music.
The pieces played in this performance were Humoreske by Bernard Alt, Ecos Armonicos by Craig
H. Russell, Concerto Grosso by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Finlandia by Jean Sibelius, Concerto for

San Jose State University is a very large urban campus that has a total enrollment of more than
30,000 students. It is easy to get lost in such huge crowds of students, and even more difficult for
shy students, such as myself. I am proud to be a first generation college student attending San Jose

resources that the college provides for its students. I applied to SJSU in the fall of 2015 with various
goals in mind. However, with a university this large I knew that I would need extra guidance in

the employees at ASPIRE are new to me. There are new tutors, new advisors, and new freshman. I
am glad that I made time to attend a meeting with my advisor because during my time there, I was
introduced to some new individuals whom I have never met before. The involvement that I had
during my ASPIRE appointment was very much needed because I became aware that I was an
individual that was not easily lost, but instead, easily missed by my community.

Career Paper: Pursuing A Career In Clinical Psychology

San Jose State University My interests in Clinical Psychology are aimed toward abnormal
psychology and counseling. Psychotherapy comes with the job title of becoming a Clinical
Psychologist, which I find the most interesting sector of this profession. While attending San Jose
State University I have learned a lot about other careers other than Clinical Psychology, for example
– becoming a social worker, human resource management, child psychologist and a probation
officer. These are careers I also would consider doing after graduating college.
Short–Term Goals
My short–term goals while attending school is obtaining a 3.4 or higher GPA to have a higher
possibility on getting accepted into graduate school. Within my last year of attending San Jose State,
I plan on doing volunteer and internships so I can gain hands on experience in the field I plan on

According to the Daily Aztec news source, which has been an independent news source for San
Diego State University since 1913, The Afrikan Student Excellence Council (ASEC) held meetings
alongside other cultural groups across campus to discuss racial profiling in the San Diego State
University Police department 's crime alerts (Lozano). One of their supporters Shellie Stamps, who

was cause for the meeting, was racial profiling" (Lozano). As the meeting went on, students offered
testimonies about incidents in which they were victims of the crime alerts, similar to my own

which alluded them to be subjected to many uncomfortable situations and very insensitive racial

The grey fog comes in, there is mist in the air, the cold wind increases my alertness and the
uneasiness of everyone causes silence for a brief moment until the high pitched blow of a whistle

Unlike all other game days, this one is very special. We take on UC San Diego in hopes of securing
a playoff spot. My emotions have been running all over the place, and no it's not because I am a

My Educational Diversity : The Reflection Of Educational...
Educational Diversity
All I see is the same color around me. Faces of familiarity pass and I feel safe. This was my
mentality for most of my life. I am from a small, agricultural town in California called Santa Maria.
My whole life is based on what this town has provided for me growing up. I want to say that it had
done more for me, but truthfully, I can't quite say it did. At my high school, there seemed to be a
lack of quality. It only offered 9 AP classes and had a demographic of 97% Hispanic. Being difficult
for those who wanted to go to college, and having little diversity it was harder to get into a
university with an in accurate representation of the world. It is a huge problem that is also reflected
in larger scale. My group of friends and I were some of the determined few who wanted to attend a
four–year institution. My local community college was referred as 'high school: part two'. This in
my mind sounded awful and something I knew I did not want to be a part of. The road to college
was to be tricky for me, and would do anything for the best possible chance.
To start my journey, I was involved in various organizations which I dedicated much of my time to.
Key Club, Future Farmers of America, and AVID were what drove me to excel in my education.
During my junior year of high school, I dreaded the stress I would endure of applying to colleges.

my life, in a teaching direction. Becoming a teacher assistant is something I could imagine that was
excited. I learned mathematics at San Jose State University at the age of thirty. Now, I often think

The word diversity is indispensible in college pamphlets. Pictures of multicultural friendships
permeate across each page in hopes of providing a mirrored image for prospective students. These
pictures suggest a promised safe place for young adults of all backgrounds. However, in the instance
of San Jose State University, one could argue their actions differ from the pictured proposal. Their
main focus became avoiding liability rather than facilitating a safe environment for ethnic
difference. This mentality typically reflects a view that claims acts of active racism and blatant

Dr. Beverly Tatum discusses this sociological phenomenon as dominate and subordinate groups.
In the book "Why are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?" Dr. Tatum cites author
Jean Blake Miller who states that dominant social groups "set the parameters within which the
subordinates operate" (23). The dominant group in this situation was comprised of the students who
bullied the African American minor. This was evident in the altercation's clear division of racial
groups between the mainly White individuals and one out of two African Americans within the
entire housing building. However, in this case, it is imperative to include Asians within the dominant
group in an effort to understand the racial atmosphere at San Jose State and many other universities.
According to San Jose State's website statistics, 24% of students are White, 35% are Asian while
only 3% are African American ("Distribution of All Faculty and Students by Gender and Ethnicity
Fall 2013"). This number game and lack of representation ensures racial divisions are maintained
through the inheritance and abundance of systemic racism. It is apparent that the cycle of
perpetuation comes from the normalization of dehumanization and lack of self–evaluation.
Individuals in these dominant racial groups often fail to acknowledge their status within them due to
their personal discomfort. For example, in one police personal

Domains Of Development
In my term paper, I discussed how stress affects the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical
development in adolescents. At the end of my research paper, I have discovered that stress can lead
to cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, impulsive and problematic behaviors due to sleep
deprivation that can cause substance abuse, and suicide ideation due to lack of social support from
family and friends that will affect all four domains of development. Furthermore, I will discuss my
self–reflection on how stress may affect the four domains of development as I transition to the next
stage of development, young adulthood. Additionally, I will conduct two interviews with different

I am currently eighteen years old attending San Jose State University as a first–year undergraduate
student majoring in Nursing and will be graduating in 2020. Also, I am raised and currently living in
San Jose, California. As I move into young adulthood, I think that stress will influence my four
domains of development because, during this stage, I will undergo completing my college degree,
finding a stable job, and being more independent. Transitioning into young adulthood will affect my
physical development because by then I will have a full–time job that will physically exhaust me
that will result in the lack of exercise which then leads to obesity and other cardiovascular diseases.
Along with social and emotional development, I will not be able to have the adequate amount of
time to spend with family and friends due to my job and that may lead to anxiety and depression that
could also affect my current occupation. Lastly, I think my cognitive development will be greatly
affected because of the amount of pressure that will be put upon me to complete my college degree
and seek an occupation will mentally drain me and that can affect my sleeping patterns and result in
sleep deprivation. Several ways that I can do to help promote a successful transition to the next stage

that raising $40,000 in three weeks, just two years after we had done this before, would be

San Diego Wildfires: Smoke and Ash Debris a Public Health Concern
San Diego Wildfires
The county of San Diego is a unique haven to hundreds of state and federally recognized
endangered, threatened, or rare plant and animal species (The Nature Conservancy, n.d.). San Diego
is also a territory with a long history of environmentally catastrophic wildfires. The Cedar and Witch
Creek Fires are two of the most recent and notorious wildfires in California history for their degree
of damage in terms of acreage burned and overall expense (The City of San Diego, n.d.). During and
after these massive wildfire events is a significant public health concern related to respiratory health
from the effects of smoke and ash debris. The challenges presented in mitigating and managing
these health issues extends into county budget, public education, and cohesive multi–agency
prevention and recovery efforts. Moreover, participatory efforts from the residents of San Diego
County is key to the success of mitigating health risks presented by wildfire smoke and ash debris
(Phillips, 2009, p. 420).
Background
The Cedar Fire (2003) was one of the largest and deadliest wildland fires in California history
burning nearly 300,000 acres in San Diego County and killing 15, including 1 firefighter. A lost
hiker accidently set this fire from survival methods attempted with a flare. It resulted in evacuations
of thousands of San Diego residents and destroyed approximately 2400 homes (CALFIRE, 2016).

The Basics Of Mediation Between An Addict And A Victim Of...
When I was nine years old, I was forced to learn the basics of mediation between an addict and a
victim of abuse. I think about the paths I could have taken, had I not met the right people. The
culture clichés I could have so easily followed had I chosen to conform rather than create an
opportunity for myself. Through the use of persuasive communication, I was able to guide my father
away from violence. I remember having trouble my early years of school as I soon became my
father's drinking partner. He needed someone to talk to at late hours of the night and I was always
available. I would like to say that I am motivated by the positivity in my life, but that would be a lie.
In return I do believe it that the negativity I experienced early on and difficulties I faced in
childhood that helped shape my focus as I experimented with different careers and fields of study. I
have continuously battled the culture of patriarchy entrenched through my background and authority
figures. I had to battle my autocratic ruler mentally, verbally and – in unfortunate instances –
physically. Although my animosity for my mother's inability to walk away from my father's
dominance grew as an adult, I was enlightened by her willingness to serve others. I grew up in a

A majority of San Jose City College students will come to a point in their education where they will

End Human Trafficking Intervention Plan Paper
Assessment of the Problem
Human trafficking is the form of modern day slavery and it is a worldwide problem that affects our
local communities. Human trafficking presents itself in two forms: sex trafficking and labor
trafficking. Human trafficking touches people of all ages: children, young adults, and the elderly.
Human trafficking is defined as, " the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of
persons, by means of threat of use of force or other forms of coercion, or abduction," (Lightfoot, p.1,
2013). According to the San José Police Department there are approximately 600,000 to 800,000
people that are trafficked across international borders each year. Out those 800,000 people it is
estimated that 18,000 to 20,000 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also states that government agrees that human trafficking is a problem, however, only about 15
million dollars has been invested over the past seven years. Acosta states that the tools needed are
there, but there is a lack of will in the political power, not enough public awareness, and that there
are not enough resources.
On a statewide level in California there are task forces assigned to combat human trafficking. In San
José, California the task force assigned to fight against human trafficking is the San José Police
Department and Community Solutions. There are other agencies such as the YWCA that collaborate
with law enforcement, legal advocates and pro–bono attorneys, victim service providers, faith
communities and community activists. The most common human trafficking in the South Bay is
Commercially Sexually Exploited Children, although sex trafficking of women and labor trafficking
still occur.
Community efforts include the Not for Sale campaign that provides awareness and resources for
victims and at risk individuals. There is also currently a conference that is going to be held through
FIGHT (What does this stand for?). The primary purpose of the conference is to motivate the
community and local churches to get involved to fight against human trafficking. The conference

Remedial Costs Are Too High For Csu At Bear
San Jose Mercury News Editorial, authors of "Remedial costs are too high for CSU to bear"
highlight the San Jose State University policy that took place in 2009. The policy is about Freshmen
students who are required to take remedial classes since their math or English basic college–level
aren 't good enough. To notice these students that need help ahead of time CSU created the Early
Assessment Program . Even though CSU created the voluntary Early Assessment Program, which
has an essay and two dozen questions that are included in standardized tests given to juniors, many
students didn 't pass it. Those students who don't take the Early Assessment Program or aren 't
qualified will have to take online tutorials and remedial classes which take a year to study. Sadly,
there'll be no repeat chances for those students who don 't pass their remedial courses. They may
have to hire tutors or take courses off campus to gain the basic knowledge "they should have
received in high school," as the authors said. The author assume that it 's both students and their
high school 's responsibility for college readiness, and I strongly agree with the authors ' aurgement.
College readiness shouldn 't be CSU. However, College readiness is high schools obligation , and
students duty as well.

  • 21. I have been a San Jose State University student for 4... I have been a San Jose State University student for 4 years now, and over the course of my learning I have grown and learned more than I thought possible. I came to SJSU knowing that English was my least favorite subject; I consistently dreaded writing assignments professors would assign in class. Going through English 1B has taught me to face my fears about writing papers, whether they are short reviews or extensive research papers, I have become more comfortable in writing. I have learned how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things I don't know. Most importantly I have learned that revision is essential. I have always been a thinker, but throughout my course work, I have greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By critically thinking and researching during the course work of writing my papers, I found that putting direct quotations of my sources into my paper was the method I chose over others. For example, the quote used in my Peer Review Essay #1 "Shazam works because every song generates something like a "fingerprint"... Shazam stores that fingerprint for tens of millions of songs, and then matches (or tries to) with what's coming out of the speaker" (Garling). I found that by using direct quotes like this one into my papers instead of paraphrasing them, made my essay stronger. I personally feel that by using a direct quote of a person who is more creditable than me creates a sense of assurance for the reader, knowing that it is a creditable source. I was able to use the quote directly and weave the information into my essay by supporting the direct quote given with my own thoughts. This allowed me to better voice my opinion on the topic I was writing about. One of the main reasons I believe my writing has become stronger is due to revision. I always knew revision was an important step in the writing process, but in the past I always assumed that my papers needed no revision, I was wrong. The feedback that was given to me by my peers and professor was extremely helpful. A few of the comments given to me by my peers include, "The uses of quotes in your essay are fine. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since all locations handle their financial and accounting systems, and these systems do not interact with each other this causes delays in financial information. According to University of Phoenix Riodran Manufacturing, Inc. (2013) consolidating the information into the corporate San Jose office is labor intensive and it can take fifteen to twenty days after the end of the month to generate company financials such as profit and loss and balance statements. It is necessary to perform audits each month and it is very labor intensive as well as costly for the company to perform. Compliance with government reports and requirements is extremely challenging due to the incompatibility of software. This is not an efficient way to run a fortune 1000 company that employs hundreds of employees worldwide. This leaves the company vulnerable to inaccurate data entry and miss– transmitted data. The recommendation I would give to Riodran Manufacturing regarding their software, information and hardware systems would be to hire an outside technology company that specializes in designing a seamless information technology systems. To use or design an enterprise resource planning information software program that can be utilized by every location and that would allow them to network all locations into one server. The other audience were members from the San Jose State Symphony Orchestra, SJYCO Senior Youth Orchestra, and Ad Lib Orchestra who wore formal attires. Throughout the concert, I was somewhat a casual listener and mostly a referential listener. I was somewhat a casual listener because I didn't know the name of the artist or piece, however, I paid attention to the music. I considered myself a referential listener because, while I was hearing the presto tempo and crescendo dynamic, I pictured Mickey Mouse running away from an evil monster. When the tempo suddenly changed from presto to adagio and the dynamic changed from crescendo to piano, I imagined a turn of events. The monster returning to its lair and the darkness fading. Flowers growing around Mickey Mouse. The sun appearing and smiling in the sky. I pictured these memories because ever since I was a kid, I've watched black and white Mickey Mouse cartoons with the orchestra music playing in the background. As a result, I was a referential listener. I wasn't a perceptive listener because this event was my first musical performance I've ever attended and I was so into the music. The pieces played in this performance were Humoreske by Bernard Alt, Ecos Armonicos by Craig H. It is easy to get lost in such huge crowds of students, and even more difficult for shy students, such as myself. I am proud to be a first generation college student attending San Jose State University. Despite its large size and increasing impaction rates, I admire the diversity and resources that the college provides for its students. I applied to SJSU in the fall of 2015 with various goals in mind. However, with a university this large I knew that I would need extra guidance in order to succeed and accomplish my goals. There are new tutors, new advisors, and new freshman. I am glad that I made time to attend a meeting with my advisor because during my time there, I was introduced to some new individuals whom I have never met before. The involvement that I had during my ASPIRE appointment was very much needed because I became aware that I was an individual that was not easily lost, but instead, easily missed by my community. This quest activity has been greatly meaningful to me because it is clear that the ASPIRE office is one of "my places of the heart" here at San Jose State. Career Paper: Pursuing A Career In Clinical Psychology Career Paper Tearna Sankofa San Jose State University My interests in Clinical Psychology are aimed toward abnormal psychology and counseling. Psychotherapy comes with the job title of becoming a Clinical Psychologist, which I find the most interesting sector of this profession. While attending San Jose State University I have learned a lot about other careers other than Clinical Psychology, for example – becoming a social worker, human resource management, child psychologist and a probation officer. These are careers I also would consider doing after graduating college. Short–Term Goals My short–term goals while attending school is obtaining a 3.4 or higher GPA to have a higher possibility on getting accepted into graduate school. Within my last year of attending San Jose State, I plan on doing volunteer and internships so I can gain hands on experience in the field I plan on getting my overall degree in. This was my mentality for most of my life. I am from a small, agricultural town in California called Santa Maria. My whole life is based on what this town has provided for me growing up. I want to say that it had done more for me, but truthfully, I can't quite say it did. At my high school, there seemed to be a lack of quality. It only offered 9 AP classes and had a demographic of 97% Hispanic. Being difficult for those who wanted to go to college, and having little diversity it was harder to get into a university with an in accurate representation of the world. It is a huge problem that is also reflected in larger scale. My group of friends and I were some of the determined few who wanted to attend a four–year institution. My local community college was referred as 'high school: part two'. This in my mind sounded awful and something I knew I did not want to be a part of. The road to college was to be tricky for me, and would do anything for the best possible chance. To start my journey, I was involved in various organizations which I dedicated much of my time to. These pictures suggest a promised safe place for young adults of all backgrounds. However, in the instance of San Jose State University, one could argue their actions differ from the pictured proposal. In the book "Why are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?" Dr. Tatum cites author Jean Blake Miller who states that dominant social groups "set the parameters within which the subordinates operate" (23). The dominant group in this situation was comprised of the students who bullied the African American minor. This was evident in the altercation's clear division of racial groups between the mainly White individuals and one out of two African Americans within the entire housing building. However, in this case, it is imperative to include Asians within the dominant group in an effort to understand the racial atmosphere at San Jose State and many other universities. According to San Jose State's website statistics, 24% of students are White, 35% are Asian while only 3% are African American ("Distribution of All Faculty and Students by Gender and Ethnicity Fall 2013"). This number game and lack of representation ensures racial divisions are maintained through the inheritance and abundance of systemic racism. It is apparent that the cycle of perpetuation comes from the normalization of dehumanization and lack of self–evaluation. In return I do believe it that the negativity I experienced early on and difficulties I faced in childhood that helped shape my focus as I experimented with different careers and fields of study. I have continuously battled the culture of patriarchy entrenched through my background and authority figures. I had to battle my autocratic ruler mentally, verbally and – in unfortunate instances – physically. Although my animosity for my mother's inability to walk away from my father's dominance grew as an adult, I was enlightened by her willingness to serve others. I grew up in a border city, known for its inability to progress and recalled for its femicides. These femicides were an epidemic that casually built up awareness through media but fizzled out against what news producers believed to be more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Human trafficking presents itself in two forms: sex trafficking and labor trafficking. Human trafficking touches people of all ages: children, young adults, and the elderly. Human trafficking is defined as, " the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of threat of use of force or other forms of coercion, or abduction," (Lightfoot, p.1, 2013). According to the San José Police Department there are approximately 600,000 to 800,000 people that are trafficked across international borders each year. On a statewide level in California there are task forces assigned to combat human trafficking. In San José, California the task force assigned to fight against human trafficking is the San José Police Department and Community Solutions. There are other agencies such as the YWCA that collaborate with law enforcement, legal advocates and pro–bono attorneys, victim service providers, faith communities and community activists. The most common human trafficking in the South Bay is Commercially Sexually Exploited Children, although sex trafficking of women and labor trafficking still occur. Community efforts include the Not for Sale campaign that provides awareness and resources for victims and at risk individuals. There is also currently a conference that is going to be held through FIGHT (What does this stand for?). Remedial Costs Are Too High For Csu At Bear San Jose Mercury News Editorial, authors of "Remedial costs are too high for CSU to bear" highlight the San Jose State University policy that took place in 2009. The policy is about Freshmen students who are required to take remedial classes since their math or English basic college–level aren 't good enough. To notice these students that need help ahead of time CSU created the Early Assessment Program . Even though CSU created the voluntary Early Assessment Program, which has an essay and two dozen questions that are included in standardized tests given to juniors, many students didn 't pass it. Those students who don't take the Early Assessment Program or aren 't qualified will have to take online tutorials and remedial classes which take a year to study. Sadly, there'll be no repeat chances for those students who don 't pass their remedial courses. They may have to hire tutors or take courses off campus to gain the basic knowledge "they should have received in high school," as the authors said. The author assume that it 's both students and their high school 's responsibility for college readiness, and I strongly agree with the authors ' aurgement. College readiness shouldn 't be CSU. However, College readiness is high schools obligation , and students duty as well. Its high schools obligation to devolop students for college, and strengthen their English and math basic level. History Of The 1968 Olympics In Mexico City The 1968 Olympics in Mexico City black power salute was an act of protest by the African American athletes, Tommie Smith and John Carlos during their medal ceremony. Tommie Smith and John Carlos were both students at San Jose State University. What Smith and Carlos had done was one of the most memorable moments in the American Civil Rights Movement. Carlos recalls, "What was truly special was not the statue, but how it came about. Students on campus organized a movement that made the statue happen." On October 2005, San Jose State University had unveiled a 22–foot statue in honor of the former students, Tommie Smith and John Carlos. The difference in language between active and passive voice really gets to her point. Some may settle for using the passive voice, "I was educated by San Jose State University", but Adrienne rich's advice is to use the active voice, "I claimed my education at San Jose State University". In the next four years, by using the skills I learn at San Jose State, I plan to actively claim my education. As Adrienne Rich spoke to a college full of women, she continuously pointed out that education is not something to take for granted, and should not be looked at passively. Education is a responsibility she remarked, "Responsibility to yourself means that you don't fall for shallow and easy solutions." On the other hand, the Youtube video shows a student who does not take responsibility for their education, and basically exemplifies the student Adrienne Rich advises against.
