Pastoral Poetry Analysis
Attempting to treat the pastoral as a distinct mode which has endured from Theocritus and Philitas to
the Romanticist and finally Post Modernist world is highly anachronistic . And that is not the
assumption which I have made in the title. Instead of reading pastoral into the corpus of a poet who
may have not even conceived it, this essai (and I have chosen that word carefully) is an effort to
survey the poems of Catullus for evidence of agricultural, floral and rustic motifs. But Catullus is not a
poet with whom this mode is traditionally associated. Indeed, the standard account of Roman Pastoral
begins with the second birth of Theocratic poetry in Virgil s Eclogues which are typically credited
with introducing the juxtaposition between urban and rural lifestyles as a political allegory . But Virgil
probably also drew on the agricultural works of Cato and later Varro. Hence, since there is no
evidence of this mode existing in previous Latin authors, Catullus must have derived any
understanding of pastoral from Cato and surviving works of the Hellenistic poets, in particular
Theocritus . Therein is problem with our question. Whether Theocritus employed Arcadian motifs as a
means of bringing out the pastoral charm of the land or understood them as something constituting a
literary mode that embodied a lifestyle is highly contentious, and for Catullus even more so . This
speculatory nature is probably what has dissuaded recent scholarship from engaging in such a

The Culture And Culture Of Ainu
Ainu are the oldest inhabitants of Japan, also the minority in Japan, they live in the Hokkaido region
of Japan, has a long history and rich cultural background. The content will describe the Ainu language
and their culture. By understanding the language and culture of Ainu, will help us better to understand
the cultural diversity of modern Japanese society.
Japan is considered the simplest ethnic composition country in the world. The majority people think
that Japan is a single nation which is Yamato. In fact, in Hokkaido of Japan, lived almost forgotten by
the people of ethnic minorities Ainu. Ainu is widely distributed in the Japanese Islands as early as in
the Jomon Period (Henshall, A History of Japan 7). Some scholars believe that they were from the
branch of the Mongolian race from the Asian continent, belonged to Mongolian and Negro the
Australian mixed type of race. The history of Ainu shows that they were mainly distributed in Russia s
Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands and Hokkaido of Japan and other regions (Wikipedia). The Ainu are the
oldest inhabitants of Japan. Ainu people formerly lived in all over the Japan as the earliest indigenous
people on the island. After being expelled by Yamato, they lived in Hokkaido and its surrounding
areas (picture 1). The Ainu have orbital collapse, prominent cheekbones, and black, curly hair. Both

After his death in 1560, the same was handed over to Mehraj. Mehraj s grandson Mohan was pestered
by Muslim Bhattis and he left Bidowali for some time in 1618 and came to the Bathinda area.
According to one description, Mohan and his son Roop Chand laid their lives in 1632 during a fight
with Muslim Bhattis. Mohan s son Kala was also an ardent follower of the sixth Guru. When Shah
Jehan s army attacked the Guru in 1635 at Lehra near Mehraj, Kala along with his clan sided firmly
with him. The Guru ended victorious. A happy Guru Har Gobind asked Kala Brar to fence as much
land he wanted to. By evening, Kala had marked twenty two villages and put his fence (Morhi) into
the ground. The Bhullar Jats, who considered themselves to be the original dwellers and owners of
this area removed his fence and threw it into a well. When Kala complained against this to the Guru,
he remarked: Bhai Kala, your roots have reached to the other world. Hence, Kala founded a village
and named it as Mehraj.

When Guru Har Rai visited this area, Kala along with his cousins, Phool and Sandal appeared for his

What Gave Public Enemy the Right to Call Elvis and John...
Tyler Brown #211711710 In the 1960 s Elvis Presley and John Wayne stood together as the coat of
arms for the American Dream and embodied societies perceptions of white supremacy. Their
seemingly endless fan base and mass appeal, coupled with a whitewashed legacy , distinguished them
as icons amongst a vast range of underrated and extremely talented colored artists. Chuck D and Flava
Flav articulate their disdain by labeling them as racists and insulting them in Public Enemy s most
notorious song Fight The Power. What right did they have in doing this? John Wayne was an
extremely popular Movie star at the time, during an interview with Playboy in 1971; he stated, I

This focused the attention of the public, less towards the whitewashed media and art forms, and more
towards the black community. This immense stardom and fame was the quintessential element that
justified black artists like Chuck D and Flava Flav expressing their dislike for him. Fight The Power
was written to depose societies prejudiced attitudes in segregated America. The reason black
performers then and now feel bitter towards him was that he was getting all the attention while they
were struggling to get noticed. To add insult to injury, Elvis was even dubbed the King of Rock . It is
no wonder that after a long battle by the black community to fight for their right to create art and
distinguish themselves, uproar would ensue when a charming white man incorporated their songs,
their style and their flare into his act. This left black artists infuriated; Fats Domino, Chuck Berry and
Little Richard who pioneered the sounds and styles, received no recognition for their contribution and
brilliance. To these pioneers, Public Enemy and black artists in America, it was frustrating to see time
and time again a white artist take a style from any group of colour and gain acceptance and popularity.
Elvis used the tunes, rhythms and performance style from black artists and far overreached the cultural
acknowledgement of the originals. Chuck D stated in an interview that his attacks were against Elvis s
whitewashed legacy . He claimed

Review on Brahms s Third Symphony Essays
Review on Brahms s Third Symphony
Symphony No.3, Johannes Brahms (1833 1897)
Op.90, F Major
Allegro con brio
Andante
Poco allegretto allegro Brahms was at the zenith of his powers when he wrote the third Symphony. He
finished it during the summer of 1883, in Wiesbaden, whence in early May, soon after his fiftieth
birthday. We can picture Brahms that summer, in the very prime of his life, his great intellectual and
emotional powers fully developed and his mastery widely acknowledged, walking much about

Three phrases of the tune which was given to clarinets and bassoons, has its cadence echoed by low
strings. Passages developed from the first theme then led gradually to its return in its original calm
mood after a brief climax. A brief coda was made by a new and happy melody referring to the main
theme.
The third movement was lighter than any of the other movements. But the middle section referred to
the single note motive which was grown as symphony progressed.
With the finale the grand returned, peoples were at once concerned with weighty issues. The
suspension was highly impressive making peoples feel something great impending. The themes were
many and various. But they flowed from one to another smoothly. Then the movement was fully
developed as the exuberant conclusion theme came out, fast and furiously. There also followed a
series of developments some ingenious and some powerful. Then the movement went into end. The
loud horn proclamation died slowly through sublet changing harmonies, until by a modulation. Then
the entire color and atmosphere of the music changed to half light. The original halting form of the
theme recurred briefly but only for a moment. With the development of the melody, in slow rhythm,
soft entrances of four initial motives echoed from bass to treble leading to a timid but happy and
confident reaffirmation of the motto from the first

Lumumba s Alliance With The Soviet Union
Lumumba s alliance with the Soviet Union fractured the Congo government. Kasa Vubu dismissed
Lumumba from service on 5 September 1960, citing as his excuse, a massacre conducted in South
Kasai. At the same time, Joseph Mobutu took control of the military and began recruiting supporters.
Though he dismissed Lumumba, Kasa Vubu did not have a majority within the government and
fighting ensued. Mobuto saw his opportunity to successfully implement a coup and have both
Lumumba and Kasa Vubu replaced. Mobuto dismissed the Soviet advisors sent to assist Lumumba
and effectively sided with Kasa Vubu. Mobuto would reinstate him as president in February 1961.
Lumumba on the other hand, was placed on house arrest. He managed to escape but was caught
shortly thereafter and was tortured before being sent to Katanga to death. His death sparked an
international outrage with demonstrations being held in New York and London. (Nzongola Ntalaja
69).
On 21 November 1961, the UN took a more proactive stance during the Congo Crisis with Resolution
169. This resolution gave the UN military forces the right to use all the force necessary to maintain
law and order and assist the central government of the Congo. It also vehemently rejected the Katanga
government s claim of independence. By December 1962, UN troops moved into Elisabethville,
occupied the city, and forced Tshombe to surrender. This effectively ended the Katanga secession
crisis. The end of this secession crisis prompted an attempt at

A Brief Look at World War II
World War II World War II was the largest war and the bloodiest war that the U.S. has ever been
involved in. Forty to Fifty million people lost their lives during World War II. This was a war that
lasted for about six years and involved countries from around the whole world. The axis powers in the
war consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Allie powers consisted of the United States, France,
Great Britain, the Soviet Union, and to a lesser extent, China. It is said that unsettled disputes from the
first world war, World War I, is what was the main cause of WWII. Japan trained men for the war
starting at the age of nine years old. It is said that of all the Soviet men that were born in the year
1923, only twenty percent survived the war. This means eighty percent of all males died in the war.
That s from one country, imagine how many innocent lives were taken during the war. All because of
one man, Adolf Hitler. The war stemmed off in early 1939 when German dictator Adolf Hitler had
intentions of invading Poland. Poland knew about this, so they went to France and Britain for an
alliance should Germany invade them. When Germany heard about this, they decided it would be
good to take out the Soviets because they didn t know if they would fight on Poland s side or not. On
August 23, 1939, Germany and the Soviets signed the German Soviet Nonaggression pact. This stated
that once Poland was taken over, the country would be divided evenly between the two power
countries.

Monoamine Oxidase A Case Study
The first factor in the connection between the Monoamine Oxidase A (MAOA) gene and antisocial
behaviors is increased weapon use. Low MAOA (L MAOA or MAOA L) activity alleles have been
linked to an increased probability of weapon use among male gang members as well as an increased
probability of shooting and stabbing behaviors among males (Beaver, Barnes, Boutwell, 2014; Beaver
et al., 2009). Each of these associations was investigated independently of childhood maltreatment,
something many studies have not been able to examine in the past (Beaver et al., 2012). In one study,
researchers grouped self reported male gang members into two groups: a L MAOA activity group and
a high MAOA (H MAOA or MAOA H) activity group. In this study, the ... Show more content on

The probability of subjects with the low activity allele shooting or stabbing someone at any time in
their lives was 50 percent whereas the probability of subjects with the high activity allele shooting or
stabbing someone in their lifetimes was only 7 percent. There was also a statistically significant
probability of carriers of the L MAOA allele shooting or stabbing someone multiple times within their
lifetime (Beaver et al., 2009). The second factor is an association between the MAOA gene and human
aggression. Aggression can be defined as an increased proneness to aggressive explosions, especially
when faced with anger, fear, and frustration. Aggression can also include violent, not premeditated,
acts such as rape, assault, arson, murder, or attempted murder (Buckholtz Meyer Lindenberg, 2008).
The presence of the MAOA L allele in males may increase their likelihood to employ in aggressive
actions (Stetler et al., 2014). Brunner s study determined an association between a genetic mutation
and antisocial aggression/behavior within a large sample of Dutch children. Brunner chose these
particular male children based off of their reputations as extremely aggressive. Brunner s study
discovered a common mutation within the MAOA genes of all subjects. This particular mutation
produces an untimely stop codon in the MAOA gene (Buckholtz Meyer Lindenberg, 2008). In another
study, Stetler et al. (2014)

The Federalists No. 10 Analysis
Have you heard of the word factions? Well, if you haven t factions are groups of citizens who unite
under a common interest or goal. James Madison wrote The Federalists No.10 , which was about how
he felt about factions The Federalists No.10 was set out to be heard by the American citizens, but
mainly the citizens of New York. James Madison was also known for his important contribution to the
overall creation of the Constitution that earned him the nickname Father of the Constitution later in
life. Madison wanted to ratify the Constitution also; Madison, John Jay and Anthony Hamilton (other
federalist) wrote the Federalist Papers. In The Federalists No.10 James Madison Says The latent
causes of faction are thus sown in the nature of man ; meaning if there were going to be factions they
had to be controlled. By removing the causes of factions, the liberty that is essential to its existence is
destroyed. Madison states that Liberty is to faction what air is to fire, an aliment without which it
instantly expires . Therefore, it is somewhat quite foolish to abolish liberty considering it is essential
to political life. Madison thinks it would be foolish to abolish ... Show more content on

In the fact of getting a large republic there had to be multiple amounts of controlled factions that kept
one another from becoming too powerful. Multiple factions play a positive role by counterbalancing
one another. Madison suggests that government can control itself better, if power is balanced so that
each person check on the other. In comparison to a mother and a child, the mother is going to make
sure the child doesn t fall flat on their face and the child is going to do the same. But not only would

Twisted Truth Of Fear
The Twisted Truth of Fear
In Once Upon a Time, by Nadine Gordimer, the author tells a dark story in a fairy tale format. This
piece reveals a very dark truth, revealed through the theme, which is being controlled by fear. It is
eloquently portrayed through her simple, yet descriptive wording. Allowing irrational fear to take over
one s life leads to self destruction, which is the dark truth Gordimer wants the reader to understand.
The moral of this story proves to be ironic. Throughout the story, the wealthy white family does
everything in their power to avoid contact with the outside world, filled with riots and danger. They ve
insured everything they possibly can, and are a part of the Neighborhood Watch group, Yet she was

As magnificent as the characters home may be, the surrounding walls and wires to protect them
describes the isolation that is brought upon the family. When they go further into trying to protect
themselves, with the stretched razor bladed cols all round the walls of the house, the imagery not only
gives the reader a feeling of uneasiness but foreshadows the truth of the story. No one can isolate and
protect themselves from the world without winding up in the situation that was trying to be avoided in
the first place; in this case it is the boy pretend playing. The mother, who is consistently the most
worrisome of the family, inspires the boy to play as if he were a prince, rescuing the princess, and
ultimately leads him to their doom. He dragged a ladder to the wall, the shining coiled tunnel was just
wide enough for his little body to creep in, elucidates the truth Gordimer wants the reader to know.
...and with the first fixing of its razor teeth in his knees and hands and head he screamed and struggled
deeper into its tangle. The gore evokes disgust and fear in the reader, however enlightens them as well,
where the truth Gordimer wants to reveal is illustrated in great detail instead of simply being worded

An Exploration of Shōjo and Shōnen Manga through Sailor Moon and Black Cat
Genres are one of the first things readers look at to help determine whether or not a book should be
read. Although there are many similarities between the genres shounen (manga intended for males)
and shoujo (manga intended for females) that make a manga seem like it could be either genre, there
are differences that are meant to distinguish between their respective audiences. As a more specific
example, the shared themes of fighting, love, and superhuman powers as well as the character in Black
Cat and Sailor Moon suggest a similar genre and audience; however, upon closer ... Show more

Looking at a fight scene from Black Cat, a battle with the main character (Train Heartnet) starts in
chapter 49 and continues through chapter 51. Throughout these chapters, Train is fighting his enemy
almost the entire time (there are moments when it cuts to his companions for a few pages). The battle
finally concludes on page 16 in chapter 51 when Train knocks out his enemy with a strike to the face.
With the finishing blow, his foe spits out a mouthful of blood and can be seen bleeding a few panels
later. There is no attempt to hide any blood or gore in Black Cat, whereas in Sailor Moon the enemy
simply melts away and blood is avoided. Whether or not this is intended, the effect is clear: Black Cat
attracts viewers who like to see violence without any censorship and Sailor Moon appeals to people
who are not as into the depictions of fighting.
The difference in length of battle also plays a role in highlighting the scene. The couple pages of
fighting in Sailor Moon are dwarfed by the multiple chapters Black Cat uses to play out a fight. This
emphasizes the point that one manga is trying to appeal to audiences wanting to see more combat and
the other is for readers who prefer less violence. There are also less theatrical acts in Black Cat; Train
and his enemy do not shout out their moves before they attack unlike Sailor Moon. This further
accentuates how Black Cat readers are used to seeing fighting scenes and do not need to have fights
explained, where Sailor Moon

A Game of Shadows is the sequel to the 2009 Sherlock Holmes directed by Guy Ritchie. The film
follows Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) as he attempts to unravel the convoluted mystery of
Moriarty across Europe. The film tells the famous story of Holmes fake death at the Reichanbach

film focuses on their journey. In A Game of Shadows there is a particular scene that shows the build of
tension. The scene starts as the characters run from something; the framing shows all the key

The camerawork returns to the conventional style used for the soldiers. The framing of the shot shows
the soldier as the focal point of the shot. As the shot seems to be taken slightly from below it creates a
more imposing stance for the soldier and shows the shadow over his eyes from the peak of his hat. All
of this alludes to the mystery of this character and his intentions as the previously mentioned
omniscience of the spectator is broken as the spectator has no idea of whom or what Little Hansel is.
The next scene starts to rebuild the tension again. The only sound is the diegetic sound of machinery
and weapon. The shots are shot and closed off to surroundings. The extreme close ups [Fig.6] limit the
spectator s understanding of what s happening. From this shot the spectator can infer that it is some
kind of weapon but other than that there is no other clue. The lack of music and complex techniques
leaves nothing but the spectator s confusion and as the montage continues the confusion leads to the
building tension. The tension then peaks as the weapon is revealed [Fig.7] in an almost identical
manner to Fig.2 and the spectator is suddenly aware of the magnitude of the danger for the characters
in the woods. The reveal is not however, the climax of the tension, it keeps building. Yet, it is all the
more tense as the spectator can now anticipate what it coming but by continuing in a similar

Dennis Kozlowski s Leadership In Crisis
Tyco international is a corporation that was founded in 1960 Arthur J. Rosenberg. It began as an
investment and holding company that eventually expanded into Healthcare, Electrical and Electronics,
Specialty Products and Fire and Security Services. Tyco became a solid publically traded company
under its founder and leader Arthur J Rosenberg. Under his leadership, Tyco not just expanded but
grew that between 1973 and 1982 the company went from $34 million to 500 million in consolidated
sales. (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2011). The story of a leadership in crisis reflects on the governance
and unethical misconduct of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dennis Kozlowski. Dennis Kozlowski
entered the corporation in 1975 and at the time was under the leadership of Joseph Gaziano. Dennis
was mentored by Gaziano and was quite impressed by the lavish, opulent and affluent lifestyle. In
1982 Gaziano passed away and John F. Fort III became CEO. His leadership style was that of one that
was quite frugal in his spending. This was a change within the culture of Tyco as it moved in a new
direction and Kozlowski had to adapt to the changes. Fort Leadership and Management style was to
cut back on what he saw as wasteful spending. He opposed the extravagance of that of his predecessor
and directed the company focus more towards making a profit for investors and shareholders.
Kozlowski adapted to the changes made by Fort and also supported the vision and new direction the

Epidermal Keeratinocytes Angiogenesis
As the inflammation receds the proliferation phase begins, in this phase of healing, cellular activity
predominates. The major events during this phase are the creation of a permeability barrier (ie,
reepithelialization), the establishment of appropriate blood supply (ie, angiogenesis), and
strengthening of the injured dermal tissue (ie, fibroplasia). Reepithelialization is the process of
restoring an intact epidermis after cutaneous injury. It generally involves several processes, including
the migration of adjacent epidermal keratinocytes into the wound. Epidermal stem cells from the hair
follicle are now thought to originate from the hair bulge that is believed to be the germinative portion

In response to the injury, microvascular endothelial cells initiate an angiogenic process consisting of
activation of endothelial cells, local degradation of their basement membrane, sprouting into the
wound clot, cell proliferation, tubule structure formation, reconstruction of the basement membrane,
and, eventually, regression and involution of the newly formed vasculature as tissue remodeling (22).
Newly formed vessels participate in granulation tissue formation and provide nutrition and oxygen to
growing tissues. Various cytokines are released by endothelial cells and macrophages stimulate the
process of angiogenesis. Several growth factors play important roles in wound angiogenesis, they
include vascular endothelial growth factor, angiopoietins, fibroblast growth factor, and TGF b.
Vascular endothelial growth factor is a potent mitogen for endothelial cells and induces endothelial
cell migration and sprouting by upregulation of several integrin receptors (23). Recent study showed
that laminins are one of the major extracellular matrix proteins important in wound angiogenesis, they
have profound effects on human skin dermal microvascular endothelial cells( HDMEC) functions,
they promote endothelial cell migration and capillary structure formation

and Pixar, Steve Jobs develops ethos, pathos, and logos in order to motivate and inspire the graduating
class, ultimately persuading the students to Stay foolish, stay hungry . Jobs shows that he is a reliable
example by describing this achievement throughout his life. He expands on his ethical appeal to the
crowd by explaining his failures, We d just released our finest creation... and I had just turned 30. And
then I got fired (Jobs 3). Jobs is known as a highly successful businessman. Jobs, however; expands
on his failure and is open about it. It is thought that once something goes wrong there is no way to get
back from it. But Jobs recalls being fired from Apple as the best thing that could have ever happened
to me (Jobs 2). Jobs uses his failure to further expand on the importance of staying creative and
remaining ambitious. Jobs had to move on from his job and when he did, I started a company named
NeXT... In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, and I returned to Apple, and the
technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple s current renaissance (Jobs 3). Jobs is
telling the Stanford graduating class that life may not go the way that was planned, but if they pursue
what they believe is the right path, and they do not give up then they will be able to thrive. Jobs is
telling the students need to look at failure as an opportunity to further develop

Essay Music Copyright
What is a Copyright?
Music Copyright is a very important aspect of the music industry. The Copyright law was established
to preserve the creativity and rights of authors, composers, performers of expression. Copyright is the
law that protects the property rights of the creator of an original work in a fixed tangible medium.
(http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/copyright) A fixed tangible medium is something substantial
like copying lyrics on paper or putting a song on tape or CD. Copyright can be seen every where in the
music industry. Many music artist of our culture today have been involved in copyright issues.
Recently, on MTV news it was stated that, As the music industry becomes increasingly concerned

This establishes the artist as the creator of that work. It is not illegal for a person to write the symbol
on their work themselves. The correct way to place a copyright symbol on your original fixed tangible
medium is like this:
Copyright 2001 Aja Star Lane
For record companies it, looks like this:
2001 Virgin Records. All Rights Reserved. (http://askjeeves.com/copyright/html)
This states the day of creation of a musical work. If you do not have the money for the legal fees of
the federal copyright process yet, the first thing an artist should do with a musical work is the poor
mans copyright . Poor mans copyright is when the artist puts their fixed tangible medium in an
envelope with appropriate postage stamps and mails it back to themselves without opening it. This
postmark creates proof of the creator and is the date of creation for the musical work.
Why should an artist copyright an original work?
Copyrighting a musical expression just ensures that an artist is the creator of that work. There are a
couple of reasons why an artist should copyright their original works. The main one is the creator of a
work wants to be able to protect his or her work. Also, financial gain from suing. There would not be
any purpose in creating music without financial gain for some. If you live in the United States and
legally registered your musical works you have

Smokers in the U.K and U.S.A and the treatment of social pariahs
In recent years, antismoking campaigns has increased due to the harmful effects that are caused by
smoking. People smoke not caring about the consequences that it has not only on them, but also on
other people. In the U.K and U.S.A, campaign might or might not be effective. This essay seeks to
illustrate the cause and effect of antismoking campaigns, T.V advertising, campaigns against smokers
not being allowed N.H.S treatment, and the ban of smoking in public places and also illustrating the
reasons why similar campaigns will not be effective in Saudi Arabia. First, the causes of antismoking
campaigns and T.V advertising will be discussed. Then, the effects of these T.V advertising and
antismoking campaigns will be demonstrated. Finally, the reasons as to why similar campaign would
not be effective in Saudi Arabia will be analysed.
There are many reasons as to why antismoking campaigns and T.V advertising are growing and
expanding worldwide. Smoking does not only affect health, but also affects the environment and non
smokers. The first cause is health. Many individuals smoke not caring about the harm and dangers that
it might do to them. Some argue that they are physically addicted to smoking and others are just
ignorant about the whole thing. Smoking can cause harm to a person s body. It can cause fatigue and
worsen activities which acquire walking, jogging, and other physical activities. For example,

Sumerians... an ancient civilisation that most of you have probably never heard of. They were a nation
of people settled in Southern Mesopotamia which, is modern day Iraq and Kuwait. Not only are these
people one of the oldest civilisations in human history, with their existence dating back to 5000 BCE,
but they re influence on our lives today, 7000 years later, is incredible. The Sumer people were the
first to create a written language in 3500 3000 BCE, 2000 years before the ancient Chinese. They were
the first to enforce the idea of a set time for a work day, there is evidence to suggest they invented the
wheel, and are even responsible for time itself. The Sumer people divided day and night into 12 hours
each consisting of 60 minutes with each minute consisting of 60 seconds, a method of time that is still
used to this day. Apart from these incredible advancements in early human history, the Sumer people

An Analysis Of Jimmy Cross, Characters InThe Things They...
The short story, The Things They Carried written by Tim O Brien, follows a Lieutenant named Jimmy
Cross and his men. In the literary work, Tim O Brien informs the reader not only of the physical
objects the men carry but also the intangibles. This includes guilt and fear, while others are specific
physical objects, including matches, morphine, M 16 rifles. An American solider by the name of Ted
Lavender is killed by a Vietnamese sniper, and his commanding officer, Jimmy Cross, feels personally
responsible for the death of his grunt. He feels convicted because he was distracted by a memory of
home and an unfulfilled romance. Tim O Brien develops the character of Lieutenant Jimmy Cross in
his literary work through his actions, his thoughts, and his words in order to change his perspective to
better serve his men.
Throughout the short story, Lieutenant Jimmy Cross s actions change from being a lenient officer
overlooking drug usage and waste of ammunition, to an officer with high expectations and strict
demands from his soldiers. This is done when he puts his attention towards a woman at home by the
name of Martha. For example, Lieutenant Cross was in a dream like state, when it came to Martha and
he hoped to do all these things with her. He had hoped to kiss her, caress her body, and make love to
her. At that point a soldier named Ted Lavender returned from the bathroom and was shot in the head
by a Vietnamese sniper killing him. Jimmy Cross blames himself for the death of

Reasons For Green And Blue Spaces
The number of people living in urban areas is dramatically increasing across the world. Currently, 75
% of people live in cities in the developed world, (Bernhardt E.S. and Palmer M.A, 2007) despite such
high percentage many do not get access to the green and blue spaces available, in other words cannot
interact with nature. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency green spaces
are land that is partly or completely covered with grass, trees, shrubs or other vegetation
(Environmental Protection Agency, 2014) This includes community gardens, parks as well as
cemeteries. (Environmental Protection Agency, 2014) On the other hand, blue spaces include rivers,
canals and lakes. (Sally, M, 2010) As urbanisation increases, it will pose a greater threat to nature such
as pollution, habitat destruction, erosion and colonisation of native species. There are various ways to
engage with nature. However, one reason for green and blue spaces not being utilised effectively by
people may be due to people being unaware of the values that these have and the crucial functions
they undertake in the ecosystem such as recycling nutrients and controlling the hydrological cycle.
This essay will explore the social, ecological and economic values of green and blue spaces as a whole
as many of the values interrelate and describe some of the approaches being used to improve access to
nature. These approaches will be classified into three main categories: river restoration,

Designing A Business Strategy For Business
Customizing Complex Buying Processes
Buyers with house accounts are easier to shepherd through complex buying processes such as
purchase order systems, gaining multiple approvals for business buys, authorizing multiple account
users and developing long term relationships and business partnerships. Many B2B companies are
moving toward using their platforms as marketplaces for multiple vendors, manufacturers and B2B
sales companies. Offering house credit is a good first step for positioning a B2B company at the top of
the chain for this forward thinking business strategy. When companies share financial interests,. it s
easier to work together from shared marketing platforms.
3. Fulfillment Convenience Applications
Customers enjoy faster processing of their orders when they ve been qualified for an account because
no immediate payment arrangements are necessary. B2B companies have all the information they
need to ship immediately, and customers with accounts generally provide more complete information
about their companies, buying habits and financial strengths so that eCommerce platforms can
segregate them with the high degrees of accuracy. When salespeople know a company s limits, they
can better target their sales efforts.
Gartner predicts that personalization on B2B ecommerce sites will enable companies to outsell their
competitors by 30 percent by 2018, and offering customers purchasing accounts delivers the kind of
personal service and easier ordering that ensure

The Pursuit Of Heroism In A Mystery Of Heroism By Stephen...
Heroism is a word that is difficult to define. Anyone can be considered a hero; it could be someone
with special abilities, flying around in a cape and saving the world. A hero could also be an ordinary
person, like a firefighter, risking their lives to save people from a burning building. But just because
someone does something daring, doesn t mean they are a hero. A hero must be selfless, courageous,
and clever. In the short story, A Mystery of Heroism by Stephen Crane, the theme what it means to be
an american hero is explored. Fred Collins is a member of a company who is trapped in the middle of
an intense battle. Thirsty, Collins escapes from safety, and makes a break for a well across the
battlefield, returning with the water, only for it to be spilled. Fred Collins, a soldier from the story A
Mystery of Heroism by Stephen Crane, is not an American Hero because he behaved foolishly and
irrationally, he was not admired for his actions, and he only did it out of spite or to prove a point.

guys taunt him, jokingly telling him that if he is so thirsty, he should go across the battlefield and go

treacherous and deadly excursion. When the men realize what he is going to do the are surprised and
even start to get a little worried. Crane writes that they were amazed, staggered by the whole affair.
Their astonishment found vent in strange repetitions (Crane par. 43). They began to worry for his
safety; they did not think that Collins was brave or courageous. The men thought it was a ridiculous
idea and Collins was out of his mind. Although gutsy, Collins actions were not admirable, but

Existentialism And The Existentialist Ideas Behind...
Introduction Existentialism is a theory of philosophy that stepped away from ideas that there is any
single unifying reality or reason to existence and that we should approach philosophy from a
perspective of what we can perceive to be true, not what we think is true without being able to
perceive it. In that mind set, it tries to examine what a person s perception of reality can be, their place
is in that reality, how they approach their own existence given that information, and how, based on
those determinations, should they choose to act within that reality. To explore the ideas behind
existentialism I will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of a few main features of existentialism and
give particular focus to the existentialist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beyond the idea of individual existence, existentialists also embrace individual freedom to self
determine and create yourself in the world. People should not be expected to act according to any
perceived universal ideal but to act as they choose within their own beliefs. This results in people
living as their true selves. As a result of this idea, people would hold total responsibility for their
actions. The existentialist would reject that a person is chained by their nature or should act to meet
the standards of some outside entity, organization, or belief system. In my opinion, this is one of the
strengths of existentialist ideas in that an individual s decisions are their own in all ways. They cannot,
and should not, shirk responsibility for any actions because they had to act in accordance with a
particular belief system, orders from authority, or because of urges to do so. Assuming the individual
is of sound mind, if following existentialist ideals, they can rest assured that they are where the buck
stops for accountability. However, this results in two issues. The first is that by following this ideal
outlined by existentialists, are you acting freely of your own accord or are you just trying to follow the
ideals of others and only acting in an incorrectly perceived freedom? The second being that if we are
each acting in accordance with our own

Primitive man was so impotent in the face of these forces that [gravitate], especially in and

Margot is cheating and she relies on another manother men, not just him because he realized that his

to his and Margot s affairs and keeps reminding her of them to make her feel guilty. Margot refuses to

My client Kelsey has come back to counseling after twenty years. She briefly caught me up on her life
since the last time I saw her. Kelsey and Jin ended up adopting twin girls who they love dearly. Kelsey
decided to quit her job and become a full time stay at home mother, while Jin continued to work. She
is coming to counseling because Jin decided he was leaving the family. She knows there is no
possibility of working things out because he is dating his twenty six year old assistant. At the same
time Jin left her, her twins were moving away for college. Kelsey is now going through a divorce and
empty nest syndrome. Kelsey needs guidance in finding her new identity and learning how to live with

2011). Kelsey s first developmental challenge that needs to take priority in counseling is her lack of
identity. The roles Kelsey has been playing for years are gone, which is leaving her to feel vulnerable
and unidentified. The second challenge that will take priority in counseling is working through her
empty nest syndrome. When Kelsey s children moved away to college, she was left feeling sad and
once Jin left, the empty nest syndrome became more tragic. Being alone without her children and
husband makes stability questionable (Chen, Yang, Dale Aagard, 2012). Through counseling, Kelsey
will form reachable goals and learn interventions that will give her a sense of identity and confidence

Compare and Contrast the Unification of Germany, Italy, and the United States
From the 1790s to 1814 French troops successively conquered and occupied the area that later
constituted the German Empire. French domination helped to modernize and consolidate Germany
and toward the end sparked the first upsurge of German nationalism. In different ways the French
emperor Napoleon I helped German unification. It was important that he encouraged many of the
middle sized German states to absorb huge numbers of small independent territories, mostly
bishoprics, church lands, and local principalities.
This consolidation process, called mediation, led to the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire and

After 1850 the industrial revolution in Germany entered its decisive phase. New factories were built at
a breath taking rate, the production of textiles and iron soared, railroads grew and started to connect
many distant regions, and coal production and export reached record levels every year. These
advances profited from a high level of education, the result of an advanced school and university
system. For a long time Prussia had the highest literacy rate and exemplary schools.
Economic progress was most powerful in Prussia and less impressive in Austria. Through the Vienna
peace settlement Prussia had received areas that turned out to be enormously precious for
industrialization (the Ruhr district, the Rhineland, and parts of Saxony all with rich coal deposits).
Prussia now started to dominate many of the smaller German states economically, and the smaller
states often hesitantly adapted their economies to Prussia. Decisive for this inconspicuous economic
unification of Germany was the foundation of a customs union (Zollverein) already in 1834, which
excluded Austria and Bohemia. Railroad building followed the lines of trade after 1837. To put it in a
nutshell, Germany roughly in the borders of the later Second Empire was economically and, to a lesser
degree, culturally united before

Are Homeless People Right Or Wrong
Is it wrong to stare at someone after they fall rather than help them? Is it right to give money to a
homeless man begging in front of a sign that says no soliciting? Everyday we face situations where we
must decide whether something is right or wrong before we do it, or it ll be considered immoral or
wrong. With this stigma in mind, is the difference between right and wrong clear? How are we
affected by this kind of thought process? Though many people perceive right and wrong as a singular,
definitive, or one sided, statement where as something can ONLY be right or wrong, it is much more
complex than that. Right and wrong is relative, in need of variables, or in our case, in need of
circumstances. A long time ago, I read an article that said a group of scientists took a sample ... Show

Nearly all of the kids said the man was wrong for committing a crime of stealing, while everyone
north of 14 years old had said that it was justified because they were homeless. It is this gap of
judgement that helps define the difference between right and wrong. Without taking personal feelings
into consideration, you can conclude that there is no right or wrong, what is right to one may be wrong
to others, you can even use that logic to the statement i just made! From the moment we are able to
comprehend spoken language and/or communicate through some other method, we are taught that
there is a right and wrong without being able to fully grasp the content of a situation. This leads to
kids to decide that something is right or wrong without putting any thought into their answer. Even
considering that judgement skills aren t fully developed, to some it might cause them to think in that
very linear fashion their whole lives. This Keth 1 could lead to discrimination, the belief that your
ideas and way of life is superior to others, and unfair, but not necessarily wrong actions imposed on

Darcy And Collins Proposal Essay
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in
want of a wife, this quote is the first line of Pride and Prejudice, which also stands as a summary for
the entire plot of the story: marriage. This plot involves many key events, two of the most important
being Darcy s proposal to Elizabeth and Collins proposal to Elizabeth.
Within both proposals, Darcy and Collins are confident that Elizabeth will accept. Mr. Collins is
Elizabeth s cousin who is next in line to receive the Bennet estate. This reason, with the fact that his
patroness, Lady Catherine, wants him to pursue a wife, is why he proposed to Elizabeth, and with the
estate circumstances, why he assumed she would say yes. Darcy s proposal is similar in the way that
he takes into account how the marriage would be of benefit to Elizabeth and her family, financially
and socially. Both Collins and Darcy speak in a way that comes across as arrogance. They both take it

well as her family. Collin s takes the initiative to state why he is in want of a wife and why he thinks
she would be a suitable match for him. Both men do not even try to compliment and admire her

  • 2. Pastoral Poetry Analysis Attempting to treat the pastoral as a distinct mode which has endured from Theocritus and Philitas to the Romanticist and finally Post Modernist world is highly anachronistic . And that is not the assumption which I have made in the title. Instead of reading pastoral into the corpus of a poet who may have not even conceived it, this essai (and I have chosen that word carefully) is an effort to survey the poems of Catullus for evidence of agricultural, floral and rustic motifs. But Catullus is not a poet with whom this mode is traditionally associated. Indeed, the standard account of Roman Pastoral begins with the second birth of Theocratic poetry in Virgil s Eclogues which are typically credited with introducing the juxtaposition between urban and rural lifestyles as a political allegory . But Virgil probably also drew on the agricultural works of Cato and later Varro. Hence, since there is no evidence of this mode existing in previous Latin authors, Catullus must have derived any understanding of pastoral from Cato and surviving works of the Hellenistic poets, in particular Theocritus . Therein is problem with our question. Whether Theocritus employed Arcadian motifs as a means of bringing out the pastoral charm of the land or understood them as something constituting a literary mode that embodied a lifestyle is highly contentious, and for Catullus even more so . This speculatory nature is probably what has dissuaded recent scholarship from engaging in such a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mehraj s grandson Mohan was pestered by Muslim Bhattis and he left Bidowali for some time in 1618 and came to the Bathinda area. According to one description, Mohan and his son Roop Chand laid their lives in 1632 during a fight with Muslim Bhattis. Mohan s son Kala was also an ardent follower of the sixth Guru. When Shah Jehan s army attacked the Guru in 1635 at Lehra near Mehraj, Kala along with his clan sided firmly with him. The Guru ended victorious. A happy Guru Har Gobind asked Kala Brar to fence as much land he wanted to. By evening, Kala had marked twenty two villages and put his fence (Morhi) into the ground. The Bhullar Jats, who considered themselves to be the original dwellers and owners of this area removed his fence and threw it into a well. • 6. What Gave Public Enemy the Right to Call Elvis and John... Tyler Brown #211711710 In the 1960 s Elvis Presley and John Wayne stood together as the coat of arms for the American Dream and embodied societies perceptions of white supremacy. Their seemingly endless fan base and mass appeal, coupled with a whitewashed legacy , distinguished them as icons amongst a vast range of underrated and extremely talented colored artists. Chuck D and Flava Flav articulate their disdain by labeling them as racists and insulting them in Public Enemy s most notorious song Fight The Power. What right did they have in doing this? John Wayne was an extremely popular Movie star at the time, during an interview with Playboy in 1971; he stated, I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This focused the attention of the public, less towards the whitewashed media and art forms, and more towards the black community. This immense stardom and fame was the quintessential element that justified black artists like Chuck D and Flava Flav expressing their dislike for him. Fight The Power was written to depose societies prejudiced attitudes in segregated America. The reason black performers then and now feel bitter towards him was that he was getting all the attention while they were struggling to get noticed. To add insult to injury, Elvis was even dubbed the King of Rock . It is no wonder that after a long battle by the black community to fight for their right to create art and distinguish themselves, uproar would ensue when a charming white man incorporated their songs, their style and their flare into his act. This left black artists infuriated; Fats Domino, Chuck Berry and Little Richard who pioneered the sounds and styles, received no recognition for their contribution and brilliance. To these pioneers, Public Enemy and black artists in America, it was frustrating to see time and time again a white artist take a style from any group of colour and gain acceptance and popularity. Elvis used the tunes, rhythms and performance style from black artists and far overreached the cultural acknowledgement of the originals. Chuck D stated in an interview that his attacks were against Elvis s whitewashed legacy . He claimed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Three phrases of the tune which was given to clarinets and bassoons, has its cadence echoed by low strings. Passages developed from the first theme then led gradually to its return in its original calm mood after a brief climax. A brief coda was made by a new and happy melody referring to the main theme. The third movement was lighter than any of the other movements. But the middle section referred to the single note motive which was grown as symphony progressed. With the finale the grand returned, peoples were at once concerned with weighty issues. The suspension was highly impressive making peoples feel something great impending. The themes were many and various. But they flowed from one to another smoothly. Then the movement was fully developed as the exuberant conclusion theme came out, fast and furiously. There also followed a series of developments some ingenious and some powerful. Then the movement went into end. The loud horn proclamation died slowly through sublet changing harmonies, until by a modulation. Then the entire color and atmosphere of the music changed to half light. The original halting form of the theme recurred briefly but only for a moment. With the development of the melody, in slow rhythm, soft entrances of four initial motives echoed from bass to treble leading to a timid but happy and confident reaffirmation of the motto from the first ... Kasa Vubu dismissed Lumumba from service on 5 September 1960, citing as his excuse, a massacre conducted in South Kasai. At the same time, Joseph Mobutu took control of the military and began recruiting supporters. Though he dismissed Lumumba, Kasa Vubu did not have a majority within the government and fighting ensued. Mobuto saw his opportunity to successfully implement a coup and have both Lumumba and Kasa Vubu replaced. Mobuto dismissed the Soviet advisors sent to assist Lumumba and effectively sided with Kasa Vubu. Mobuto would reinstate him as president in February 1961. Lumumba on the other hand, was placed on house arrest. He managed to escape but was caught shortly thereafter and was tortured before being sent to Katanga to death. His death sparked an international outrage with demonstrations being held in New York and London. (Nzongola Ntalaja 69). On 21 November 1961, the UN took a more proactive stance during the Congo Crisis with Resolution 169. This resolution gave the UN military forces the right to use all the force necessary to maintain law and order and assist the central government of the Congo. It also vehemently rejected the Katanga government s claim of independence. By December 1962, UN troops moved into Elisabethville, occupied the city, and forced Tshombe to surrender. Poland knew about this, so they went to France and Britain for an alliance should Germany invade them. When Germany heard about this, they decided it would be good to take out the Soviets because they didn t know if they would fight on Poland s side or not. • 12. Monoamine Oxidase A Case Study The first factor in the connection between the Monoamine Oxidase A (MAOA) gene and antisocial behaviors is increased weapon use. Low MAOA (L MAOA or MAOA L) activity alleles have been linked to an increased probability of weapon use among male gang members as well as an increased probability of shooting and stabbing behaviors among males (Beaver, Barnes, Boutwell, 2014; Beaver et al., 2009). Each of these associations was investigated independently of childhood maltreatment, something many studies have not been able to examine in the past (Beaver et al., 2012). In one study, researchers grouped self reported male gang members into two groups: a L MAOA activity group and a high MAOA (H MAOA or MAOA H) activity group. In this study, the ... The probability of subjects with the low activity allele shooting or stabbing someone at any time in their lives was 50 percent whereas the probability of subjects with the high activity allele shooting or stabbing someone in their lifetimes was only 7 percent. There was also a statistically significant probability of carriers of the L MAOA allele shooting or stabbing someone multiple times within their lifetime (Beaver et al., 2009). The second factor is an association between the MAOA gene and human aggression. Aggression can be defined as an increased proneness to aggressive explosions, especially when faced with anger, fear, and frustration. Aggression can also include violent, not premeditated, acts such as rape, assault, arson, murder, or attempted murder (Buckholtz Meyer Lindenberg, 2008). The presence of the MAOA L allele in males may increase their likelihood to employ in aggressive actions (Stetler et al., 2014). Brunner s study determined an association between a genetic mutation and antisocial aggression/behavior within a large sample of Dutch children. Brunner chose these particular male children based off of their reputations as extremely aggressive. Brunner s study discovered a common mutation within the MAOA genes of all subjects. An Exploration of Shōjo and Shōnen Manga through Sailor Moon and Black Cat Genres are one of the first things readers look at to help determine whether or not a book should be read. Although there are many similarities between the genres shounen (manga intended for males) and shoujo (manga intended for females) that make a manga seem like it could be either genre, there are differences that are meant to distinguish between their respective audiences. Throughout these chapters, Train is fighting his enemy almost the entire time (there are moments when it cuts to his companions for a few pages). The battle finally concludes on page 16 in chapter 51 when Train knocks out his enemy with a strike to the face. With the finishing blow, his foe spits out a mouthful of blood and can be seen bleeding a few panels later. There is no attempt to hide any blood or gore in Black Cat, whereas in Sailor Moon the enemy simply melts away and blood is avoided. Whether or not this is intended, the effect is clear: Black Cat attracts viewers who like to see violence without any censorship and Sailor Moon appeals to people who are not as into the depictions of fighting. The difference in length of battle also plays a role in highlighting the scene. The couple pages of fighting in Sailor Moon are dwarfed by the multiple chapters Black Cat uses to play out a fight. This emphasizes the point that one manga is trying to appeal to audiences wanting to see more combat and the other is for readers who prefer less violence. There are also less theatrical acts in Black Cat; Train and his enemy do not shout out their moves before they attack unlike Sailor Moon. This further accentuates how Black Cat readers are used to seeing fighting scenes and do not need to have fights explained, where Sailor Moon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All of this alludes to the mystery of this character and his intentions as the previously mentioned omniscience of the spectator is broken as the spectator has no idea of whom or what Little Hansel is. In my opinion, this is one of the strengths of existentialist ideas in that an individual s decisions are their own in all ways. They cannot, and should not, shirk responsibility for any actions because they had to act in accordance with a particular belief system, orders from authority, or because of urges to do so. Assuming the individual is of sound mind, if following existentialist ideals, they can rest assured that they are where the buck stops for accountability. However, this results in two issues. The first is that by following this ideal outlined by existentialists, are you acting freely of your own accord or are you just trying to follow the ideals of others and only acting in an incorrectly perceived freedom? The second being that if we are each acting in accordance with our own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Compare and Contrast the Unification of Germany, Italy,... Compare and Contrast the Unification of Germany, Italy, and the United States From the 1790s to 1814 French troops successively conquered and occupied the area that later constituted the German Empire. French domination helped to modernize and consolidate Germany and toward the end sparked the first upsurge of German nationalism. In different ways the French emperor Napoleon I helped German unification. It was important that he encouraged many of the middle sized German states to absorb huge numbers of small independent territories, mostly bishoprics, church lands, and local principalities. This consolidation process, called mediation, led to the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire and brought the same French legal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After 1850 the industrial revolution in Germany entered its decisive phase. New factories were built at a breath taking rate, the production of textiles and iron soared, railroads grew and started to connect many distant regions, and coal production and export reached record levels every year. These advances profited from a high level of education, the result of an advanced school and university system. For a long time Prussia had the highest literacy rate and exemplary schools. Economic progress was most powerful in Prussia and less impressive in Austria. Through the Vienna peace settlement Prussia had received areas that turned out to be enormously precious for industrialization (the Ruhr district, the Rhineland, and parts of Saxony all with rich coal deposits). Prussia now started to dominate many of the smaller German states economically, and the smaller states often hesitantly adapted their economies to Prussia. Decisive for this inconspicuous economic unification of Germany was the foundation of a customs union (Zollverein) already in 1834, which excluded Austria and Bohemia. Railroad building followed the lines of trade after 1837. To put it in a nutshell, Germany roughly in the borders of the later Second Empire was economically and, to a lesser degree, culturally united before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Are Homeless People Right Or Wrong Is it wrong to stare at someone after they fall rather than help them? Is it right to give money to a homeless man begging in front of a sign that says no soliciting? Everyday we face situations where we must decide whether something is right or wrong before we do it, or it ll be considered immoral or wrong. With this stigma in mind, is the difference between right and wrong clear? How are we affected by this kind of thought process? Though many people perceive right and wrong as a singular, definitive, or one sided, statement where as something can ONLY be right or wrong, it is much more complex than that. Right and wrong is relative, in need of variables, or in our case, in need of circumstances. A long time ago, I read an article that said a group of scientists took a sample ... Nearly all of the kids said the man was wrong for committing a crime of stealing, while everyone north of 14 years old had said that it was justified because they were homeless. It is this gap of judgement that helps define the difference between right and wrong. Without taking personal feelings into consideration, you can conclude that there is no right or wrong, what is right to one may be wrong to others, you can even use that logic to the statement i just made! From the moment we are able to comprehend spoken language and/or communicate through some other method, we are taught that there is a right and wrong without being able to fully grasp the content of a situation. This leads to kids to decide that something is right or wrong without putting any thought into their answer. Even considering that judgement skills aren t fully developed, to some it might cause them to think in that very linear fashion their whole lives. Darcy And Collins Proposal Essay It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife, this quote is the first line of Pride and Prejudice, which also stands as a summary for the entire plot of the story: marriage. This plot involves many key events, two of the most important being Darcy s proposal to Elizabeth and Collins proposal to Elizabeth. Within both proposals, Darcy and Collins are confident that Elizabeth will accept. Mr. Collins is Elizabeth s cousin who is next in line to receive the Bennet estate. This reason, with the fact that his patroness, Lady Catherine, wants him to pursue a wife, is why he proposed to Elizabeth, and with the estate circumstances, why he assumed she would say yes.
