Asahi Breweries
Summary
We recommend proceeding with proposed investment plan with some revision. Detail analyses and
rationalities state in the following sections.
Industry Analysis
Japan s beer industry is concentrated and highly regulated. The industry was projected to grow by
approximate 7.6% for 1988 as 1987 realized growth. There were mainly four kinds of beers: Dry,
Draft, Lager, Melt. Consumer taste was graduating changing. Their preferences were switching from
Lager beer to dry and draft beer. The government has tremendous power in this industry in terms of
price and distribution (a distributor or retailer needs a license issued by the government to sell beers).
Therefore, both the beer license and structure of distribution channels ... Show more content on

Absence, or even a poor execution, of any of these three elements could lead to the logic of strategy to
fail.
Investment Analysis
Strategic Perspective
Strategically, Asahi s investment plan was sound. Before the big hit of Dry Beer , Asahi was
considered a marginal player in the market with a 10% market share. As the taste of Japanese
consumers shifted towards dry beer, we expect that the dry beer sector would become the driver of the
beer industry. As shown in the case, the share of draft beer sales (dry beer was considered one type of
draft beers) had increased from 21% in 1980 to 50% in 1987. Asahi became a leader in this sector with
a 54.1% as calculated with the monthly sales numbers in 1988.
However, during the Dry War initiated by its competitors, Asahi was only able to supply 70% of the
orders placed in the summer of 1988. This caused not only lost sales, but also failure to match
distributors expectations of the firm, thus threatening the firm s leadership position in the sector. With
the expansion plan, Asahi would be able to satisfy demands in a fast increasing sector.
Since the retail price of beer in Japan was virtually regulated at a uniform level by the government, the
competition was about creating capacity to satisfy demand and delivering beers through the
distribution network. Two key factors are capacity and distribution network.

Overview and Background of Lean Manufacturing
History of Lean Manufacturing
Toyota Production System Overview
The concept of Lean Manufacturing gets is roots from car manufacturing in the early 1930s and
1940s. Stemming from innovative production techniques developed and implemented by Henry Ford,
modern day Lean Manufacturing was developed by Taiichi Ohno of Toyota Motor Company after
World War II as a result of the diverse market conditions the company faced.
At a time when western car manufactures, like Ford and General Motors, where using mass
production and economies of scale manufacturing methods, Toyota faced very different business
conditions. Toyota s market was very small and diverse, leaving the organization to ... Show more

Just as with Lean Manufacturing, Lean Construction focuses on establishing value, as defined by the
customer, it with the goal of constructing a product that delivers on that value. Thus, value must come
before planning and design. (Mohammed).
Principle 2: Identify and Map Value Stream
In Lean Manufacturing the value stream identifies the necessary steps for developing and creating a
product that is valuable from the customer s perspective. In other words, the value stream determines
how and when decisions are made in the production process.
Lean Construction uses a similar technique called value stream mapping, as known as process
mapping, to understand how a construction project will be designed, supplied, and built. Hence, this is
where the planning and design aspects mentioned in the above section, come into play. Typical Lean
Construction value stream maps consist of the following:
Problem solving tasks: ranging from concept through detailed design and engineering to production
launch.
Information management tasks: ranging from order taking through detailed scheduling to delivery.
Physical transformation tasks: ranging from raw materials to producing finished products that get
delivered into the hands of the customer.
As demonstrated above, these mapping techniques highlight how the construction plan, design,
logistics, and operation

The Effect of Fantasy Fiction
Our future here on this Earth is a bleak one. Our society is on a dangerous slope of promoting vanity
at a rate that is ever more increasing, and thus resulting in stunted mental capacities.
We are teaching the youth of today to disregard literature as a whole while we shove products and
electronics down their throats. With the fast paced changes of social media, there comes a decrease in
attention, which is crucial to critical thinking skills, analytical skills, and the time it takes to process
information. The Pew online survey, which polled 2,462 middle and high school teachers, 87% report
that these technologies are creating an easily distracted generation with short attention spans, and
64% say that digital technologies do more to distract students than to help them academically. Ellen
Galinsky. (n.d.). While being basically forced to remain focused on the outward image through
aggressive outlets of ego and narcissism, such as Instagram for example (and this is a great example),
there is this society that totally negates the importance of the mind. Though body image can be
healthy in moderation, we are completely neglecting wisdom and forgetting the power of a great book
that encourages our minds to flourish and practically fill to the brim with imagination. Whether we
choose to want to believe it or not, we are indefinitely leaning towards a lost generation if we do not
put back the importance and nourishment of the minds of our youth through the help of Fantasy

The International Fair Trade Market
worried about the well being of these producers, we need to directly address the imbalances in the
trading process and increase the producer s benefit in fair trade. To do so these producer coops need to
gain a part of the ownership in companies that sell their products in the north consuming markets.
According the Jaffee, through his research and findings, when helping the fair trade coffee bean
producers it untimely comes down to the long term goal of these companies, if it is to simply increase
their market and gain consumers or to actually transform the international fair trade market. An
example of the northern power Jaffee gave was in a case where they pushed the mass production of a
low grade level of coffee but ended up failing against the organic fair trade coffee beans, which lead to
the farmers of these low grade coffees out of the field and into dire poverty. They were pushed to
produce this coffee with not input of their own and it ended up costing them their lively hood with
those that call the shots only feeling a small hit of the impact. 69 percent of the worlds coffee

I m sure most people have followed the news on the Dakota Access Pipeline and the Keystone XL

However, there are several other recent news events that cover indigenous rights within the United
States in particular. Many of these news events revolve around land (monument statuses, and rightly
ownership), and cultural appropriation. These factors play into the larger scheme of structural violence
and general perceptions of Native American people.

force Native Americans to conform to the structures of White American (Garrett and Pichette).
So what does this second example have to do with modern events? The piece was written on
attempting to return land that was forcibly taken from the Native Americans, in this case the Lenape.
An activist for Native American rights would go on to buy a building in Manhattan with the hopes of
restoring it into a prayer house, which would be owned and operated by the Lenape Nation. This
decision was not without some controversy, as this person had made Mr. Van Dunk the recipient of the

criticized for how he handled tribe finances and business. Mr. Van Dunk has since been barred from
the nation by a tribal vote (Kilgannon). Thus, people feel he is an inappropriate recipient. This

Finding Truth In Sophocles Oedipus The King
Oedipus the King is one of the best Greek literature written by Sophocles, who was an Athenian
tragedian. He wrote more than 120 plays and only a few remains to this day. In his play, Oedipus is the
son of Jocasta and Laius, the king of Thebes. But because he was destined to kill his father and marry
his mother, according to a prophecy, they wanted him dead by giving baby Oedipus to a sherperd. The
merciful shepherd ended up giving Oedipus to a shepherd from Corinth and later on, he was adopted

In the case of Oedipus, he did not even know that he killed his father on his way to Thebes, he did not
even know that Jocasta was his mother but for some mistake in life, there are big consequences.
Although Oedipus wanted to avoid the truth, he was obliged to accept it and suffer the consequences.
And he ended up saying Take me away, and haste to the place out of the way, far from Thebes! Take
me away, my friends, the greatly miserable, the most accursed, whom God too hates above all men on
earth (Oedipus, 1526 1529) When Jocasta learned the truth, she hanged herself and now, Oedipus, the
pollution of Thebes had to live the city in pain. The dream and the goal he had for the city of Thebes
as a king was now gone. The 21th century compared to the story of Oedipus the King is completely

in prison and in many countries incest is completely illegal. In Canada, people committing incest can

Large Scale Change in Business
The business model is a design for a successful operation in business, identifying revenue sources,
customer base, product and details of financing. It describes the method of how an organization or
company creates, deliver and capture values in economics, social and cultural contexts. The business
model may also be used by the company to generate revenue and make profits from the operations.
The module, therefore, includes the components and functions of a business.
Large scale change
Short term plans There are several factors that should be considered before starting a business. These
factors could be personal, social, environmental, cultural among others. Some of these factors include
changing one s standard of living, start up cost among other factors. The financial state of the
company must be considered before starting a business or expanding it to other places. At this stage,
one considers business loans from financial institutions. Such institutions could be banks, finance
brokers and other loan brokers putting into consideration there different interest rates. For the business
to succeed there must be a plan as to what business of instance a franchise, buying into an existing
business or starting a business from the bottom. Expanding business in some new areas always
requires good research and proper design making. In this case, for instance opening a jewelry shop in
Shangai china will need some research done, and it is, therefore, important to try it in

Low Back Pain Essay
2.1 Low back pain:
2.1.1 Anatomy of the lower back
The lower back is made up of various structures which interlink with each other (12). Pain mostly
occurs in the Lumbar region which is medically referred to as L1 to L5. This region supports the
weight of the upper body (12). Between each vertebra are discs which act as shock absorbers, and
provide cushioning when the body moves. They are designed to have a soft nucleus pulposus, the
central part, and a firm outer ring, the annulus fibrosus (13). The central area is capable of rupturing
which could result in a herniated disc, while the outer ring can cause irritation of the adjacent nervous
tissue and possibly lead to sciatica (13). The vertebrae are held in place by ligaments made up of
strong fibrous tissue. Tendons also connect the muscles to the spinal column (12) (13).
According to Walter J. Koroshetz (2014), thirty one pairs of nerves are connected to the spinal cord.
They assist with controlling the movements of the body, provide sensation as well as stimulation to the
muscles of the lower back and lower extremities (13). All of these nerves exit the lumbar spinal
column through bony portals called the foramen (13). They are also responsible for signals transmitted

This region is important in allowing the range of motion. (14) Firstly the Multifidus, which travels
almost the entire length of the back, aids with stabilization and rotation of the lumbar spine. Secondly
the Longissimus, another long muscle, which originates in the middle of the lumbar spine, aids with
neck and vertebral column extension. Thirdly, the Spinalis, is seen as a superficial muscle. It
originates as a thick tendon from the sacrum and continues up into the neck. With contraction, this
muscle extends the neck and vertebral column and assists in maintaining a good posture.

Slavery in Ancient Greece and Rome Essay
Slavery was the practice of taking a human being and making them do the work of another by force.
This was practiced through out the ancient world and especially in Rome and Greece. Slaves were
nothing more than just property to the ancient peoples. They didn t have the rights of citizens nor were
they able to do what they want in most cases. Slaves had many tasks that they had to do, many of
which included taking care of the masters house and kids, cooking and cleaning that house, herding
the cattle for the farming families, being guards for some prisons, fighting for entertainment of the
masses, and more common was sexual activities with the slaves. The most common use of a slave was

The owners could do with the slaves what they wished, be it sexual favors or they could beat them at
will. Beating a slave though was not usually the best thing that an owner of slaves could do because
they didn t want to damage their property. To get a slave to work hard wasn t that difficult most of the
time, all the owner had to do was refrain from beating and instead be nice to them. In Rome some
slaves were offered freedom if they met certain criteria of the owner. After earning their freedom they
were given citizenship in the city. This gave the slaves a reason to work hard, something to look
forward to. Although slaves worked mainly inside of the house there were owners who used them for
other reasons also. Slaves are living tools this is Aristotle defining what slaves are, and this is what
they were used as by everyone, inside the house and out of it. Almost everyone in the ancient world
had a slave or two, the only exception was with the poorest families. There was even slaves that
owned their own slaves, usually only one of the opposite sex though so that they could have some
semblance of a family. Pliny, a governor of a Roman province wrote to emperor Trajan asking if he
should use the slaves as guards in a local prison or use soldiers or to mix them both in there. Pliny
obviously trusted his slaves enough if he was willing

Article Analysis Of The North Korean Missile Launch
North Korean Missile Launch
After reading the articles about the North Korean missile launch on August 29th of 2017, Both news
sources portray bias in their own particular ways but Fox news seems to side. Fox states a quote from
Trump talking about all options are on the table due to the fact that North korea just shot a missile

misle showed that it could reach Guam if it really wanted to. Where the Washington Post states that

The one that used more quotes was the Washington Post which from doing some research is a
democratic source. Which is why I think they used more quotes on what Trump had to say about the
situation to make it seem worse than it really was. Where Fox just got right to the point of what was
going on about the missile launch.
One thing that I noticed that was really strange about both articles were how similar the title and the
start of the articles were to each other. The titles are almost the exact same the word choice is used a
little differently but very similar. As for the start of each article they both start off with the exact same
line with President Trump said Tuesday that all options are on the table . Then briefly after that get
into the main subject of their stories. The washington post provided a picture of trump right at the top
of the article as well as a video of trump talking about the event and a video of the missile being
launched by north korea. Where Fox only provided one video of just 2 males talking about the event.
All of these are very different from each other and both are setting different tones and giving setting a
bias tone in my opinion.
The articles both had very different sources on where they got their information for the article. Fox
news claims that the associated press contributed to the report. Where on the other hand the
Washington Post got there sources

Invention Of The Light Bulb
In our career and even life itself, we find that we take certain habits and processes that once we did not
have. Some of these are products of the influences other people have over us while others are
discoveries from our own personal experiences and stabs in the dark. These are littered with successes
but are primarily made up of failures. When something goes wrong for us or another and it could have
been prevented by taking another course of action, we learn what not to do and what to do. Take
Thomas Edison for example, the acclaimed inventor of the light bulb. Inventing a light bulb was not
an easy task and, as can be expected, there were many failures. Nonetheless he believed that I have not
failed, I ve just found 10,000 ways that won t work. Firstly, I will talk about the methods I have

from in relation to theory, experience and other influences and any biases I may have, good or bad,
due to these influences. Secondly, I will talk about the approaches I take to achieve the methods I have
previously mentioned. These will include philosophies and theories based off who I am as a person as
well as my beliefs. I will then reflect on the roots that these approaches came from and any biases they
may have caused in my works. Finally, I will talk about any art forms, philosophies and other
influences that have recently made an impact in the way that I work in the industry. I

What Is The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Flood stories are a part of most ancient civilizations throughout the whole world. Yet arguably the
most well known is the story of Noah and the Ark. Today I am going to go over the other main flood
stories most closely related with the former, and show proof that out of the numerous flood narratives,
this is the most factual and realistic of all of them. First off we have the ancient Mesopotamian
narrative Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh is told a story by, an immortal man, that long ago the gods
had decided to destroy the whole world by sending a flood. Upon hearing this information the man
Utanapishtim was able to build a giant ship that he stored all different species of creatures on, and
even some craftsmen for after the flood. Historians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet if it were a copy of such a story, why would all of the dimensions for the ship be factually checked
out as stable and realistic, the ability for caring and keeping alive all of the animals mentioned in both
stories, and that neither the Sumerians or the Israelites were known for their nautical skills. Sumerians
were the first to write the flood account in cuneiform then the Akkadian s carried it on, there were two
types of dialects Babylonian and Assyrian and they each had their own version of the flood story. This
shows that they were recounting the stories that they have been told, writing it in their own style.
Scholars of the Christian faith believe that the recounting of the Noah s flood was told orally and
passed down until Moses eventually wrote it to be apart of the bible. So this makes the origins of the
bible older then all of the other flood

Catherine and Peter had a distance relationship, they didn t have children until nine years after they

Essay on Media Effects on Body Image
With the tremendous effect the media has on men women s body image/self esteem, there are things
the media and those being effected can do to limit the impact. The media can change the portrayal of
models in magazines, television, billboards, etc. By portraying unrealistic models, studies can
conclude that it causes a negative effect on men and women leading to eating disorders, self esteem
problems, and possibly even sometimes more dramatic actions such as suicide (Groesz, Levine, and
Murnen 2,4). So why always have these ultra thin gorgeous female models and tall handsome
masculine models in magazine ads, billboards ads, etc.? If the media would show people as who they

Last, more organizations such as, About Face, fighting against negative images of women in the media
could possibly help to decrease the problem. About Face is a non profit organization out of San
Francisco. It began in August of 1995 and their purpose is to combat negative and distorted images of
women in the media. They first started when an advertisement of Kate Moss for perfume was
displayed and her body image was altered and adjusted and made her look skeletal. They took that
same poster had Emaciation Stinks in bold printed across the top and Stop Starvation Imagery across
the bottom of the poster and hung hundreds of their version all over the streets of San Francisco. This
event gave many others the motivation to voice their opinions on media s negative images of women
and to also get involved in organizations such as About Face (About Face). If more and more people
learn about how much the media is effecting not only women but men and both of all ages, and get
involved in more organizations that battle against this, it might not stop the media from doing what
they are doing, but it could help others to follow their footsteps instead of falling into the media s
negative wrath of unrealistic body image

Rene Descartes Skepticism
Rene Descartes Meditations is known to be one of his most famous works, it has also shown to be
very important in Philosophical Epistemology. Within the meditation s he provides many arguments
that remove pre existing notions, and bring it to the root of its foundation which Descartes, then will
come up with his indubitable foundation of knowledge to defeat any doubt and to prove God is real.
Descartes was a foundationalist , by introducing a new way of knowledge and with clearing up how
people thought about things prior. Descartes took knowledge to its very foundations, and from there he
can build up from it. In this essay, I will be discussing Descartes, and analyzing his first two
meditations and arguing that he does indeed succeed in his argument.
Skepticism is define as an intellectual process of applying reason and critical thinking to validate a
certain point. Skepticism was the very base for Descartes arguments in the first two meditations. He

The whole point of this method is for Descartes to find at least some truth that is way beyond any
questions of doubt. However, what if people doubt that the two plus two does not equal to four but in
reality of our minds, we all can conclude that is equals to four. After this point, Descartes introduces
the idea of a malicious god or evil demon who s only goal is to deceive us no matter what, Descartes
says, I will suppose, then, not that there is a supremely good God who is the source of all truth, but
that there is an evil demon, supremely powerful and cunning, who works as hard as he can to deceive
me (Descartes 322.Right Side). Although we all know that two plus two equals four but what if the
evil demon is deceiving us and in reality, it equals five. These three stages make up Descartes

Vacation Gone Awry Essays
I lay asleep in the car crammed between my brother and my sister; I open my eyes just in time to see a
sign with half of the lights burnt out that read State Bridge, Resort, Saloon, Restaurant, and Lodging.
By the looks of the sign, I had a feeling that this place was going to be a dump. The word resort led
me to believe it wasn t that bad. The thought I always kept in the back of my mind was what a Hawke
family vacation was. We would always spend the least amount of money as we could, and we would
leave as soon as possible. This, to my dad, was the greatest vacation.
My dad had this great last minute idea of going to his sister s house in Steamboat Springs for
Christmas. My family is known for last minute planning. We started ... Show more content on

My sister and I tried to stay awake as long as possible, but I found my self drifting off quite frequently
and laying my head on my brother s shoulder. I knew that this was going to cause havoc later because
he hated when I would do that. I decided that it would cause less controversy if I looked at a
magazine. I turned on the light and after a few minutes of reading, the light blinked once and burned
out. Sleeping seemed to be my only other option.
Finally, I saw the first sign that showed the word vacancy . This place looked considerably nice. When
my dad stepped out of the van to go check in to the hotel, two police cars drove up with their sirens
screaming and lights flashing. Dazed and confused, I was trying to figure out what the commotion
was. Then I noticed a man lying on the side of the highway next to the curb. The two police officers
got him to his feet and helped him stagger to the back seat of the police car. He obviously had too
much to drink. With the blink of an eye, the police officers were gone and my dad was back in the van
in less than 30 seconds. Needless to say, we were not going to stay there so we were off to the next
town.
The next closest town, if one could call it a town, was State Bridge. It looked to be an old mining town
with nothing in it except for a so called resort. The lights of a sign that said, State Bridge Resort,
Saloon, Restaurant, and Lodging were flickering as if they were going to burn out. My dad

Ego And Superego In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho
There are many scenes in Psycho directed by Alfred Hitchcock that can be looked at through a
psychoanalytical lens. One moment that stands out is when Marion Crane steals the $40,000 from here
work. The viewer can see how much conflict she has in herself with stealing the money. Her id is
telling her to do it and go to her boyfriend in Arizona. Her superego is making her feel guilty for
taking the money and running away. A viewer can observe this especially when Marion is in her car
and she sees her boss crossing the street. Her mind begins to run wild with what he will say to the
police about her or who will be looking for her and she regrets taking the money. Her ego is in a
constant struggle with her id and superego. The superego

Ambivalence
The government does make some policies that make the citizens have some mixed feelings about them
(Bauman, 2013). This state is known as ambivalence. The laws that the government makes should
give confidence to the people and remind them that they have a strong government. It is very evident
that not all the laws made by the government will create a full satisfaction to its citizens. In his article,
am going to address an experience of ambivalence and the desire to reverse the growth of the
government in this context.
The instance where I had an ambivalence experience was when the government allowed issues to deal
with transgender to be allowed by the constitution and also abortion to be allowed. These are aspects
of societal morals. Transgender are a group of people who have changed their personal identity and
also physical identity to satisfy the psychological perception of who they want to be. These
transgender include lesbians, bisexual and heterosexual. When the government came off publicly and
made these practices legal. The question comes, in a society that is driven by morals, how can the
government allow legality of such happenings within the law? The other thing ... Show more content

these laws, my point will be; transgender issues such as same sex marriages to be illegal and not to

the law as a citizen. The government should come with laws that will protect its citizens socially.
When including citizens, it includes the children who are growing up, the young children who want to
learn from the society. If the society has harnessed immoral behaviors, the development of the child
will be growing towards that direction. This will indeed affect the future society that will be

The most common definition of the word hand in the American Heritage Dictionary is: the terminal
part of the human arm below the wrist, consisting of the palm, four fingers, and an opposable thumb,
used for grasping and holding. There are eighteen other literal meanings for the word hand as well as
innumerable metaphorical meanings. In Great Expectations Dickens uses literal meanings, symbolism,
and repetition of the word hand in order to develop his characters; in particular, the repetition of the
word hand assists Dickens illustrate two of his major themes: the importance of education and the idea
that wealth and position are corrupting.
Dickens uses hand imagery to develop several of his major and minor characters. The characters range
from Drummle (Pip s adversary) all the way to the main character, Pip himself. Drummle is depicted
as a man of shady character. During a conversation at the Jaggers estate, Drummle hides his hands in
his pockets. Drummle attempts to use physical violence to settle an argument rather than
communicating like a true gentleman (G.E. 201). Though Drummle is a minor character, his actions
play a major role in the lives of Estella and Pip.

The Absurdity Of Venus By William Shakespeare
Shakespeare quickly manifests Venus as a desire driven being. In order to convince Adonis to give in
to her lust, Venus attempted to persuade Adonis with grand exaltation, forced contact, and even a
fraudulent fainting episode. All throughout these lustful demonstrations of love , Venus hyperbolizes
both her love for Adonis and his beauty. Despite her best efforts, Venus fails in her efforts to gain both
his love and lust. Furthermore, her falsified claims reveal to us a character whose desire is not
constructed as a stable force, but as an (...) attempt to reshape reality (Stanivukovic 293). The
absurdity of Venus acts hint at Shakespeare s attempt to implement Venus as the personified emotion
of desire . Her attempts to reshape the reality of Adonis disdain indicate that a different force, more
powerful than Venus lust, is preventing Adonis from complying. Many events throughout the poem
indicate nature s prominence as this preventive and controlling force. Many indications that nature
encompasses all lie within Venus coercion. Early on, Venus tries to convince Adonis that failing to
reproduce is an abuse of his gifted life: The first line argues against individuals being selfish and
living just for themselves quite ironic in itself given that she never grows due to immortality. Whether
she believes in what she says or says it to manipulate Adonis, desire clearly controls her actions.

such as anecdotes of her experience living in Hull House and vivid imagery as powerful tools of social
advocacy especially for the elderly who cannot care for themselves. Throughout the passage three
anecdotes describing the lives of old women brought to the Hull House after no one else was left to
care for them are used to show first hand what living in poverty is like. . Firsthand experiences give
more credibility to claims because the person becomes a primary source. The first anecdote used

Disadvantages Of Fair Trade
Having the privilege to live in a developed country like America has blessed us with an abundance of
prospers opportunities, but have we let these opportunities outweigh the Earths health? This question
may not be one that can be answered till future time. Accordingly, what we can discuss is how our
purchases have a ripple effect on the natural environment and undeveloped cultures in which many
times they derived from or are at. With concepts like fair trade and using reusable and sustainable
products to help make a healthier and a more just world.
Being a conscious consumer currently is no small task, with multiple choices of mega stores filled
with products that our most time often than not filled with products that are cheaply produced.
Moreover, the big company s give little regard to the producer. This is where the concept of fair trade
comes from. In a piece of Harvard s Journal of Economic Perspectives states that Fair Trade is a
labeling initiative aimed at improving the lives of the poor in developing countries by offering better
terms to producers and helping them to organize. (Dragusanu, Giovannucci, Nunn, 2014) The article
continues to say that ...Fair Trade certified coffee exports were 1.8 percent of global coffee exports in
2009... (Dragusanu, Giovannucci, Nunn, 2014) A reason why this percent maybe so small could be
due to peoples who make the argument that Fair Trade is not economically sustainable. This meaning

Analysis Of Blood Meridian Or The Evening Redness Of The West
Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness in the West, is a novel written by an author by the name of
Cormac McCarthy. Cormac McCarthy wrote this to show a teenage runaway perspective of living on
your own during the late 1800 s. Throughout this novel, McCarthy shows the reader the feeling of
being in hell and describing a kid s journey through hell. This eye opening novel takes place in Texas,
Mexico and the American Southwest, Circa. This historical fiction novel is surprisingly accurate when
describing the events that occurred during the situations in the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico around
the 1850 s. McCarthy s Blood Meridian contains a lot of violent and bloody events that build up to the
subjugation of the Apaches, as well as other Native tribes, and the southwestern expansion of the
United States of America. All these events are proven to be an accurate description of the way
Indigenous people were treated and how they lived throughout this time. The story Blood Meridian or
the Evening Redness of the West, explains a couple of the major frontier themes of a man s kinship for
violence, religion, and power in the Western American History. These can be found as the theme
depending on the way the reader interprets it. The story represents the traditions of the American
Southwest, as the kid meets different people with different perspectives on life. This novel describes a
journey of a young boy, who McCarthy doesn t give a name to, but refers to the character as the

What Is Rawls Definition Of Justice
Rawls definition of justice differs from Aristotle s definition. According to Aristotle, justice is viewed
as the condition when a person follows the law and is fair. Justice often times deals with money and
honor. Specifically, he defines two types of justice distributive and reciprocity. Distributive justice
means that the amount of wealth a person has is directly related to the person s merit. While,
reciprocity justice means that if there is disproportional ratio of gains and deficits, there will be a
balance to even out the disproportional aspect of this kind of justice. For example, if a man is cheated
by another man and loses money, he can go to court to fight his case and there will be a judge who
decides. While, Rawls definition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previously, silent comedy films would poke fun at the lower class and because of the nature of not
having any sound; it depicted the lower class as barbaric and country bumpkin. However, with sound,
the films were able to depict the realistic differences caused by class because it was no longer just
funny movements. There was substance. Trading Places also depicted the class status of the different
characters. When the film first introduced Valentine, he was physically shorter than the rest of the
actors, (because he pretended to have no legs to gain sympathy for money), to depict that he is from a
lower class. His clothes were also not as crisp as the wealthy people s. He was not in a suit and tie.
When Valentine was led into his new home, he kept putting things in his pocket because he did not
believe that the home was his. When we see the Duke Brothers being introduced, they are sitting a
room filled of fancy books and furniture. They also spoke in an exaggerated snobbish tone to depict
their wealth off backgrounds. Another thing is that when they panned into the club that the men were
in, it was mostly filled with other white men from other Ivy leagues. The help who bought them the
tea was a person of color. The film depicted the different class statuses in the very introduction of the
movie. Although, it may have appeared exaggerated with the snobbish tone of voice, the truth is that
some people do talk like that, but not as severe. Beach s argument is clearly conveyed in Trading

All these tsunamis however took lives of the people who lived or were visiting the area at the time. In
addition to the death that a tsunami causes, there are also other effects. The towns or cities where the
disasters took place are also affected. Many structures are destroyed or damaged. Businesses may be
destroyed. All these effects make it difficult and slow for the areas to not only aid those that were hurt
in the tsunami but also to rebuild the towns and cities quickly. This has an effect on not only the
economy of the town but also on its people. They may feel like there is no hope as they try to rebuild

may also be environmental effects. The result of the ocean coming on to land has a bad effect on fresh

health problems are caused because of water left standing for long periods. The standing water may

The Pros And Cons Of Nature Vs Nurture
Introduction In social psychology when nature or nurture is mentioned this always brings up

turned out in life. This is something no scientists have been able to prove up to these modern times.
Nature is said to be things that you are acquired your from parents and you are born with such as this
like you eye colour, hair texture and your nose. It is said that whatever you are born with is
responsible for how you develop in life. When they speak of nurture, this deal with the effect of the

Who was Napoleon Essay
Napoleon was born in Ajaccio, Corsica, on 15 August 1769, the second of Carlo and Letizia Bonaparte
s eight children. In 1778, Napoleon began his education at Autun and later attended school in Brienne,
excelling in mathematics and science. Following a year s study at the Ecole Militaire in Paris, he was

which created an atmosphere of opportunity that would not have existed under the Bourbons, and
Napoleon was to make the most of it.
The first opportunity came in 1793, when Bonaparte was promoted to brigadier general for the

He signed a Concordat with the Pope in 1801 which restored religion to France, but his greatest
achievement was the Civil Code which in part is still used today. His growing popularity resulted in
his being proclaimed Emperor in 1804. At the coronation, Napoleon crowned himself, taking the
crown from the Pope in a symbolic manner to show that power stemmed from the state and not the
church as with previous monarchs.
It was an uneasy peace however, and plans were made to invade Britain by crossing the English
Channel, but these were abandoned when Napoleon marched his highly trained Grand Armée into
central Europe to meet the converging forces of Austria and Russia. Capturing a large part of the
Austrian army at Ulm, Napoleon crossed the Danube to face the remaining Austrians and the Russians
at Austerlitz. The result was a decisive victory known as the Battle Of Three Emperors on 2 December
1805. Austria sued for peace, but a new coalition was formed of Britain, Russia and Prussia. Napoleon
defeated the Prussians at Jena in 1806, and the Russians at Friedland in 1807.
Following these victories, Napoleon was at the pinnacle of his career. With a great display of pomp he
met the Tsar of Russia at Tilsit and a new Franco/Russian alliance was born. Portions of Prussia were
divided into new states, and Napoleon later announced a new policy of economic warfare that was to
become known as the Continental System. Its goal was to

The Pawnee have a story about a person named Pahokatawa, who was killed by an enemy and eaten

world would end. When the pawnee tribe witnessed the time the stars fell upon the earth, which was in

Although the Pawnee learned not to be afraid there were Native Americans who feared meteors. The

Asahi Breweries Summary We recommendproceeding with proposed investment plan with some revision. Detail analyses and rationalities state in the following sections. Industry Analysis Japan s beer industry is concentrated and highly regulated. The industry was projected to grow by approximate 7.6% for 1988 as 1987 realized growth. There were mainly four kinds of beers: Dry, Draft, Lager, Melt. Consumer taste was graduating changing. Their preferences were switching from Lager beer to dry and draft beer. The government has tremendous power in this industry in terms of price and distribution (a distributor or retailer needs a license issued by the government to sell beers). Therefore, both the beer license and structure of distribution channels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Absence, or even a poor execution, of any of these three elements could lead to the logic of strategy to fail. Investment Analysis Strategic Perspective Strategically, Asahi s investment plan was sound. Before the big hit of Dry Beer , Asahi was considered a marginal player in the market with a 10% market share. As the taste of Japanese consumers shifted towards dry beer, we expect that the dry beer sector would become the driver of the beer industry. As shown in the case, the share of draft beer sales (dry beer was considered one type of draft beers) had increased from 21% in 1980 to 50% in 1987. Asahi became a leader in this sector with a 54.1% as calculated with the monthly sales numbers in 1988. However, during the Dry War initiated by its competitors, Asahi was only able to supply 70% of the orders placed in the summer of 1988. This caused not only lost sales, but also failure to match distributors expectations of the firm, thus threatening the firm s leadership position in the sector. With the expansion plan, Asahi would be able to satisfy demands in a fast increasing sector. Since the retail price of beer in Japan was virtually regulated at a uniform level by the government, the competition was about creating capacity to satisfy demand and delivering beers through the distribution network. Two key factors are capacity and distribution network. The Ministry of Finance

Overview and Backgroundof Lean Manufacturing Overview and Background of Lean Manufacturing History of Lean Manufacturing Toyota Production System Overview The concept of Lean Manufacturing gets is roots from car manufacturing in the early 1930s and 1940s. Stemming from innovative production techniques developed and implemented by Henry Ford, modern day Lean Manufacturing was developed by Taiichi Ohno of Toyota Motor Company after World War II as a result of the diverse market conditions the company faced. At a time when western car manufactures, like Ford and General Motors, where using mass production and economies of scale manufacturing methods, Toyota faced very different business conditions. Just as with Lean Manufacturing, Lean Construction focuses on establishing value, as defined by the customer, it with the goal of constructing a product that delivers on that value. Thus, value must come before planning and design. (Mohammed). Principle 2: Identify and Map Value Stream In Lean Manufacturing the value stream identifies the necessary steps for developing and creating a product that is valuable from the customer s perspective. In other words, the value stream determines how and when decisions are made in the production process. Lean Construction uses a similar technique called value stream mapping, as known as process mapping, to understand how a construction project will be designed, supplied, and built. Hence, this is where the planning and design aspects mentioned in the above section, come into play. Typical Lean Construction value stream maps consist of the following: Problem solving tasks: ranging from concept through detailed design and engineering to production launch. Information management tasks: ranging from order taking through detailed scheduling to delivery. Physical transformation tasks: ranging from raw materials to producing finished products that get delivered into the hands of the customer. As demonstrated above, these mapping techniques highlight how the construction plan, design, logistics, and operation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effect ofFantasy Fiction Our future here on this Earth is a bleak one. Our society is on a dangerous slope of promoting vanity at a rate that is ever more increasing, and thus resulting in stunted mental capacities. We are teaching the youth of today to disregard literature as a whole while we shove products and electronics down their throats. With the fast paced changes of social media, there comes a decrease in attention, which is crucial to critical thinking skills, analytical skills, and the time it takes to process information. The Pew online survey, which polled 2,462 middle and high school teachers, 87% report that these technologies are creating an easily distracted generation with short attention spans, and 64% say that digital technologies do more to distract students than to help them academically. Ellen Galinsky. (n.d.). While being basically forced to remain focused on the outward image through aggressive outlets of ego and narcissism, such as Instagram for example (and this is a great example), there is this society that totally negates the importance of the mind. Though body image can be healthy in moderation, we are completely neglecting wisdom and forgetting the power of a great book that encourages our minds to flourish and practically fill to the brim with imagination. Whether we choose to want to believe it or not, we are indefinitely leaning towards a lost generation if we do not put back the importance and nourishment of the minds of our youth through the help of Fantasy ... To do so these producer coops need to gain a part of the ownership in companies that sell their products in the north consuming markets. According the Jaffee, through his research and findings, when helping the fair trade coffee bean producers it untimely comes down to the long term goal of these companies, if it is to simply increase their market and gain consumers or to actually transform the international fair trade market. An example of the northern power Jaffee gave was in a case where they pushed the mass production of a low grade level of coffee but ended up failing against the organic fair trade coffee beans, which lead to the farmers of these low grade coffees out of the field and into dire poverty. They were pushed to produce this coffee with not input of their own and it ended up costing them their lively hood with those that call the shots only feeling a small hit of the impact. 69 percent of the worlds coffee corporations, which are part of the Big Five : Nestlé, Prcot and Gamble, Craft and Sara Lee. I m sure most people have followed the news on the Dakota Access Pipeline and the Keystone XL Pipeline, this may even be the largest (recent) news event that is involved with indigenous rights. However, there are several other recent news events that cover indigenous rights within the United States in particular. An activist for Native American rights would go on to buy a building in Manhattan with the hopes of restoring it into a prayer house, which would be owned and operated by the Lenape Nation. Mr. Van Dunk was a prior chief of the Lenape Nation, who had been criticized for how he handled tribe finances and business. Mr. Van Dunk has since been barred from the nation by a tribal vote (Kilgannon). Thus, people feel he is an inappropriate recipient. Low Back PainEssay 2.1 Low back pain: 2.1.1 Anatomy of the lower back The lower back is made up of various structures which interlink with each other (12). Pain mostly occurs in the Lumbar region which is medically referred to as L1 to L5. This region supports the weight of the upper body (12). Between each vertebra are discs which act as shock absorbers, and provide cushioning when the body moves. They are designed to have a soft nucleus pulposus, the central part, and a firm outer ring, the annulus fibrosus (13). The central area is capable of rupturing which could result in a herniated disc, while the outer ring can cause irritation of the adjacent nervous tissue and possibly lead to sciatica (13). The vertebrae are held in place by ligaments made up of strong fibrous tissue. Tendons also connect the muscles to the spinal column (12) (13). According to Walter J. Koroshetz (2014), thirty one pairs of nerves are connected to the spinal cord. They assist with controlling the movements of the body, provide sensation as well as stimulation to the muscles of the lower back and lower extremities (13). Slavery in AncientGreece and Rome Essay Slavery was the practice of taking a human being and making them do the work of another by force. This was practiced through out the ancient world and especially in Rome and Greece. Slaves were nothing more than just property to the ancient peoples. They didn t have the rights of citizens nor were they able to do what they want in most cases. Slaves had many tasks that they had to do, many of which included taking care of the masters house and kids, cooking and cleaning that house, herding the cattle for the farming families, being guards for some prisons, fighting for entertainment of the masses, and more common was sexual activities with the slaves. The owners could do with the slaves what they wished, be it sexual favors or they could beat them at will. Beating a slave though was not usually the best thing that an owner of slaves could do because they didn t want to damage their property. To get a slave to work hard wasn t that difficult most of the time, all the owner had to do was refrain from beating and instead be nice to them. In Rome some slaves were offered freedom if they met certain criteria of the owner. After earning their freedom they were given citizenship in the city. This gave the slaves a reason to work hard, something to look forward to. Although slaves worked mainly inside of the house there were owners who used them for other reasons also. Slaves are living tools this is Aristotle defining what slaves are, and this is what they were used as by everyone, inside the house and out of it. Almost everyone in the ancient world had a slave or two, the only exception was with the poorest families. There was even slaves that owned their own slaves, usually only one of the opposite sex though so that they could have some semblance of a family. Invention Of TheLight Bulb In our career and even life itself, we find that we take certain habits and processes that once we did not have. Some of these are products of the influences other people have over us while others are discoveries from our own personal experiences and stabs in the dark. These are littered with successes but are primarily made up of failures. When something goes wrong for us or another and it could have been prevented by taking another course of action, we learn what not to do and what to do. Take Thomas Edison for example, the acclaimed inventor of the light bulb. Inventing a light bulb was not an easy task and, as can be expected, there were many failures. Nonetheless he believed that I have not failed, I ve just found 10,000 ways that won t work. What Is TheEpic Of Gilgamesh Flood stories are a part of most ancient civilizations throughout the whole world. Yet arguably the most well known is the story of Noah and the Ark. Today I am going to go over the other main flood stories most closely related with the former, and show proof that out of the numerous flood narratives, this is the most factual and realistic of all of them. First off we have the ancient Mesopotamian narrative Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh is told a story by, an immortal man, that long ago the gods had decided to destroy the whole world by sending a flood. Upon hearing this information the man Utanapishtim was able to build a giant ship that he stored all different species of creatures on, and even some craftsmen for after the flood. Historians ... Sumerians were the first to write the flood account in cuneiform then the Akkadian s carried it on, there were two types of dialects Babylonian and Assyrian and they each had their own version of the flood story. This shows that they were recounting the stories that they have been told, writing it in their own style. Essay on MediaEffects on Body Image With the tremendous effect the media has on men women s body image/self esteem, there are things the media and those being effected can do to limit the impact. The media can change the portrayal of models in magazines, television, billboards, etc. By portraying unrealistic models, studies can conclude that it causes a negative effect on men and women leading to eating disorders, self esteem problems, and possibly even sometimes more dramatic actions such as suicide (Groesz, Levine, and Murnen 2,4). So why always have these ultra thin gorgeous female models and tall handsome masculine models in magazine ads, billboards ads, etc.? Last, more organizations such as, About Face, fighting against negative images of women in the media could possibly help to decrease the problem. About Face is a non profit organization out of San Francisco. It began in August of 1995 and their purpose is to combat negative and distorted images of women in the media. They first started when an advertisement of Kate Moss for perfume was displayed and her body image was altered and adjusted and made her look skeletal. They took that same poster had Emaciation Stinks in bold printed across the top and Stop Starvation Imagery across the bottom of the poster and hung hundreds of their version all over the streets of San Francisco. This event gave many others the motivation to voice their opinions on media s negative images of women and to also get involved in organizations such as About Face (About Face). If more and more people learn about how much the media is effecting not only women but men and both of all ages, and get involved in more organizations that battle against this, it might not stop the media from doing what they are doing, but it could help others to follow their footsteps instead of falling into the media s negative wrath of unrealistic body image ... Rene Descartes Skepticism ReneDescartes Meditations is known to be one of his most famous works, it has also shown to be very important in Philosophical Epistemology. Within the meditation s he provides many arguments that remove pre existing notions, and bring it to the root of its foundation which Descartes, then will come up with his indubitable foundation of knowledge to defeat any doubt and to prove God is real. Descartes was a foundationalist , by introducing a new way of knowledge and with clearing up how people thought about things prior. Descartes took knowledge to its very foundations, and from there he can build up from it. In this essay, I will be discussing Descartes, and analyzing his first two meditations and arguing that he does indeed succeed in his argument. After this point, Descartes introduces the idea of a malicious god or evil demon who s only goal is to deceive us no matter what, Descartes says, I will suppose, then, not that there is a supremely good God who is the source of all truth, but that there is an evil demon, supremely powerful and cunning, who works as hard as he can to deceive me (Descartes 322.Right Side). Vacation Gone AwryEssays I lay asleep in the car crammed between my brother and my sister; I open my eyes just in time to see a sign with half of the lights burnt out that read State Bridge, Resort, Saloon, Restaurant, and Lodging. By the looks of the sign, I had a feeling that this place was going to be a dump. The word resort led me to believe it wasn t that bad. The thought I always kept in the back of my mind was what a Hawke family vacation was. We would always spend the least amount of money as we could, and we would leave as soon as possible. This, to my dad, was the greatest vacation. My dad had this great last minute idea of going to his sister s house in Steamboat Springs for Christmas. My family is known for last minute planning. My sister and I tried to stay awake as long as possible, but I found my self drifting off quite frequently and laying my head on my brother s shoulder. I knew that this was going to cause havoc later because he hated when I would do that. I decided that it would cause less controversy if I looked at a magazine. I turned on the light and after a few minutes of reading, the light blinked once and burned out. Sleeping seemed to be my only other option. Finally, I saw the first sign that showed the word vacancy . This place looked considerably nice. When my dad stepped out of the van to go check in to the hotel, two police cars drove up with their sirens screaming and lights flashing. Dazed and confused, I was trying to figure out what the commotion was. Then I noticed a man lying on the side of the highway next to the curb. The two police officers got him to his feet and helped him stagger to the back seat of the police car. He obviously had too much to drink. With the blink of an eye, the police officers were gone and my dad was back in the van in less than 30 seconds. Needless to say, we were not going to stay there so we were off to the next town. The next closest town, if one could call it a town, was State Bridge. It looked to be an old mining town with nothing in it except for a so called resort. Ambivalence The government doesmake some policies that make the citizens have some mixed feelings about them (Bauman, 2013). This state is known as ambivalence. The laws that the government makes should give confidence to the people and remind them that they have a strong government. It is very evident that not all the laws made by the government will create a full satisfaction to its citizens. In his article, am going to address an experience of ambivalence and the desire to reverse the growth of the government in this context. The instance where I had an ambivalence experience was when the government allowed issues to deal with transgender to be allowed by the constitution and also abortion to be allowed. These are aspects of societal morals. Transgender are a group of people who have changed their personal identity and also physical identity to satisfy the psychological perception of who they want to be. The Absurdity OfVenus By William Shakespeare Shakespeare quickly manifests Venus as a desire driven being. In order to convince Adonis to give in to her lust, Venus attempted to persuade Adonis with grand exaltation, forced contact, and even a fraudulent fainting episode. All throughout these lustful demonstrations of love , Venus hyperbolizes both her love for Adonis and his beauty. Despite her best efforts, Venus fails in her efforts to gain both his love and lust. Furthermore, her falsified claims reveal to us a character whose desire is not constructed as a stable force, but as an (...) attempt to reshape reality (Stanivukovic 293). The absurdity of Venus acts hint at Shakespeare s attempt to implement Venus as the personified emotion of desire . Her attempts to reshape the reality of Adonis disdain indicate that a different force, more powerful than Venus lust, is preventing Adonis from complying. Many events throughout the poem indicate nature s prominence as this preventive and controlling force. Many indications that nature encompasses all lie within Venus coercion. Early on, Venus tries to convince Adonis that failing to reproduce is an abuse of his gifted life: The first line argues against individuals being selfish and living just for themselves quite ironic in itself given that she never grows due to immortality. Whether she believes in what she says or says it to manipulate Adonis, desire clearly controls her actions. Previewing her thoughts in the next stanza, the next two lines explain the ... Analysis Of BloodMeridian Or The Evening Redness Of The West Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness in the West, is a novel written by an author by the name of Cormac McCarthy. Cormac McCarthy wrote this to show a teenage runaway perspective of living on your own during the late 1800 s. Throughout this novel, McCarthy shows the reader the feeling of being in hell and describing a kid s journey through hell. This eye opening novel takes place in Texas, Mexico and the American Southwest, Circa. This historical fiction novel is surprisingly accurate when describing the events that occurred during the situations in the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico around the 1850 s. McCarthy s Blood Meridian contains a lot of violent and bloody events that build up to the subjugation of the Apaches, as well as other Native tribes, and the southwestern expansion of the United States of America. All these events are proven to be an accurate description of the way Indigenous people were treated and how they lived throughout this time. The story Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness of the West, explains a couple of the major frontier themes of a man s kinship for violence, religion, and power in the Western American History. These can be found as the theme depending on the way the reader interprets it. The story represents the traditions of the American Southwest, as the kid meets different people with different perspectives on life. What Is RawlsDefinition Of Justice Rawls definition of justice differs from Aristotle s definition. According to Aristotle, justice is viewed as the condition when a person follows the law and is fair. Justice often times deals with money and honor. Specifically, he defines two types of justice distributive and reciprocity. Distributive justice means that the amount of wealth a person has is directly related to the person s merit. While, reciprocity justice means that if there is disproportional ratio of gains and deficits, there will be a balance to even out the disproportional aspect of this kind of justice. For example, if a man is cheated by another man and loses money, he can go to court to fight his case and there will be a judge who decides. While, Rawls definition ... It was an uneasy peace however, and plans were made to invade Britain by crossing the English Channel, but these were abandoned when Napoleon marched his highly trained Grand Armée into central Europe to meet the converging forces of Austria and Russia.
