2. SURVEY:
WHAT ELEMENT DID YOU MOST LIKE IN THE
MAGAZINE?
I had done a small survey using a sample of 20 people all aged 17-21 (my targeted
audience age group) and asked people the same question about my magazine these
are answers I had received:

3. WHAT I FOUND FROM MY SURVEY ?
From my survey I was able to understand exactly what
parts of my magazine I had done well and that people
liked and disliked. I found that most people loved the
Photography as they felt the black and white aspect on my
front cover looked really unique. Most people also said
that they liked my Font choice and colour scheme of the
magazine.
4. WHY I USED THAT PARTICULAR FONT AND
HOUSESTYLE TO ATTRACT MY AUDIENCE?
Some of the very motivating and constructive critiques I had gained for the audience
feed back was that “my model on the front cover does look very trendy and in style”.
Also from the Feedback about my front page a lot of people that it makes it more clear
having used a artist the same age as the target audience I have set my magazine to.
Even though my magazine isn’t a fashion magazine, young women would be very much
inspired to dress similar to the next upcoming sensation in RNB music. Some of the
other comments which I had received was that, “my house styles work well and reflect
the target audience of young women well, as purple is known for being quite a feminine
colour”, having received these comments from just my front page I was confident enough
to use the same colour scheme through out my contents page and DPS which I feel will
attract my audience. Also I was also told that the mask head colour and the faded effect
does make it more appealing to a feminine market. The colours play a massive role in
attracting my female audience as the cherry purple and turquoise do tend to be
associated as feminine.
The Language I have used is Standard English as I do feel my audience are
sophisticated enough at this age and to be taken seriously and by using slang it would
take away the essence of appealing to more sophisticated younger women. At the same
time I didn’t want to bore my audience with over complicated English hence why I
wanted to keep the text simple and easy to understand for my readers
5. ASPECTS OF M MAGAZINE I COULD DO BETTER
AND IMPROVE ON
I think what I would look to making magazine more towards both genders of my chosen
age group as I feel with the colour scheme and layout of font I have directed it to a specific
women's market.
I think that the contents page can be layerd out better and structured more making it go
well with the theme of the magazine.
Make the structure of my journalism bit more fluid and formal although not so much that
it bored my young age group.
Having something more happening on the right hand stand of the DPS page as the large
picture does look fairly simple.
Try to use more neutral colours that suit both genders for my main colour scheme
appealing to both male and female.
6. ANALYSIS
The audience have mixed feelings about the overall look of my contents page as
they feel there is a bit too much going on and should remain more simple. For
example the actual style of the word contents, they are not to fond. However, I
wouldn’t want to change that as much because having researched and seen from
case studies such as MME and VIBE magazine there contents pages and jam
packed with text, font and imagery and there contents wording is often abstract as
well. Also having this very bold choice of styling my contents in this way I personally
think works well as its clear from the colour scheme and house style, but I wanted to
add a bit more variation to It.
Others have said that that the image of my model on the front cover might have
looked slightly better if she was in colour to really bring her off the page. I do agree
with this to some extent as most music magazines have bright coloured artists
standing out. Although, I feel that I don’t think by producing my model on the front
cover in black and white takes anything away from how strong the shot looks. I still
strongly agree that the shot works well in black and white and allows my model to
really show that fierce emotion through the image more, which I feel if in colour could
have been lost.
