2. Colours
I appealed to my audience through the use of colours in my magazine. The
two teenagers that I interviewed for my focus group both stated that they
liked the colour scheme used in an existing Indie Rock music magazine which
is ‘Q’. This is why I chose to use a house style for my magazine which included
red, white and black with a grey background. This was so that the colours
contrasted against each other and attracted the audience to the magazine.
The house style also made the front cover look organised and structured so
this would also attract the target audience and appeal to them.
In my audience feedback questionnaire, I asked my target audience if they
liked the grey gradient background on my magazine and all 12 respondents
answered that the liked the colour background.
3. Images
The majority of my target audience wanted to see a female feature on the front of
the magazine and this is why I included a female artist on the front cover of the
magazine. But as there were some of my target audience who preferred to see a
male on the magazine cover, I included an image of a male on the contents page
so that this would attract the members of my target audience who wanted the
magazine featuring a male.
As I wanted to appeal to all of my target audience, this is why I included both
males and females in the magazine.
4. Layout
From my audience research, I discovered that my target audience were more
attracted to an organised layout rather than a messy and cluttered layout. This is
why I ensured that the cover lines were featured in columns left of the main image
of the female artist. This was so that the cover looked organised and as the text
was in columns so that it didn’t look over crowded or messy.
5. Fonts
The font on the front cover of my magazine will appeal to my target audience as
the cover story is in the biggest and boldest font which is conventional for music
magazines. The cover story was also in a white font which made it stand out over
all of the other text that was in red.
