Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience thatI am hopingto appeal toisthose inthe age bracket 16-24 yearsof age and of both
gendersasI feel thatmy magazine canbe acceptedby a widertargetaudience because of the
neutral blue colourscheme, the chosenmodel whocaneasilybe relatedtoandalsothe genre of
musicthat it fitsinwith.Ibelieve thatthisisasuitable targetaudience formymediaproduct
because the genre of musicchosenforthismagazine issomethingthatiscurrentlyinthe charts and
listenedtobya mass amountof olderteenagersbothmale andfemale.Idonot believe thatthis
magazine wouldbe suitableforayoungaudience because of the maturityof the contentandalso
the musicis notsomethingthatyoungerteenagersare likelytolistento.
At the start of the projectI hadto create an audience profile whichwaswhere Icreatedmyideal
magazine readerwhere itfeaturedwhatsortof hobbiestheyhave andthe musicthattheylistento.
I decidedthatmyreaderswouldbe someone whokeepsuptodate withsocial mediaandhas a large
interestinmusic– possiblyevenplayinganinstrumentbecausethatwaytheywouldhave agood
connectionwiththe music.
Whenstartingto create my magazine,Ididsome audience researchbycreatingasurveyonsurvey
monkey,askingavarietyof questionsof whatteenagerswhoare interestedinmusicwouldwantto
read.I askedquestionssuchas‘whatgenre of musicdo you like’ and‘whatsortof competitionsand
freebeeswouldyouliketosee featuringinamagazine,’andIfeel itisimportanttoget an inputfrom
the possible readershipbecause theyare the oneswhowill have readandbuythe magazine once it
has beencreatedsoitis importanttomake sure thatwhat I am creatingissomethingthatwill be
boughtand read.
In today’ssociety, social mediaplaysamassive partinthe promotionandproductionof media
productsas many are heavilyinfluencedbywhatwe see onsocial networkingprogrammessuchas
twitter,FacebookandInstagram.Ibelievethatone of the keyfactors thatwill helpmake amagazine
successful isbyinteractingwiththeirreadershipthroughthese social networkingprogrammesto
helpthemdeveloptheirpersonal identityandrelationships;twoof the keyfactorsinthe usesand
gratificationstheory. Also, onthe contentspage youwill be able tosee thatI have includedaQR
code whichwill take those who scanit directlythe magazine’swebsite where the readershipwillbe
able to interactinevenmore waysthanthe printversion.
Whenthinkingaboutthe type of artistand model thatI wouldwantfeaturinginmymagazine,Ifelt
that I had to make sure that theywere someone whowasquite currentandyoungfittinginwiththe
genre of the magazine well andable toconnectwiththe readershipwell.Ifeltthatbyusinga young
female model wouldbe the mostsuccessful wayof doingsobecause boththe malesandfemales
wouldbe able toconnectwithher.Girls wouldbe able todo sobecause theywouldfeel like they
are able toconnect withthemon a personal level overtypical ‘girls’problems’findingherinspiring,
and also, boyswouldfeel like theycouldconnectwithherbecause she mightbe agood singerandis
attractive.Idecidedtochoose a close friendof mine tofeature inmymagazine as I feltthat itwould
be easiertowork withthemandget betterpictures, butalsobecause Ifeltthatshe had quite a
unique sense of style andwasnotsomeone whowasto‘camera shy’makingiteasierforherto
connectwiththe magazine, thereforeIhope itwouldmake the audience feel more atease withthe
model.
The psychographicgroupthat I hope mymagazine will appeal toisthe reformers, these are people
whoput theirqualityof life overmaterialisticitemswhichIbelieveisimportantbecause not
everyone believesthatmaterialisticitemsandmoneyare important;especiallyatayoungage as
theyare mostlikelygoingtobe infurtheror highereducationstudyingforA-levelsoradegree at
Universitysowill nothave alot of disposable incometo them.
