The document discusses feedback received from an audience on a music video and two related promotional products. A questionnaire with 10 questions was used to collect quantitative data on views of the video, digipak, and magazine ad. Interviews provided more in-depth qualitative feedback. Based on the feedback, adjustments could be made to the questionnaire to collect demographic info like gender and age range. Conducting prior research on the target audience of the music genre helped in creating products to appeal to that demographic.

What have you learned from audience feedback on your music video and subsidiary tasks
1. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
The pop/rock genre of music could be considered as quite a niche market, limiting
the number of people that the music produced within this genre would appeal to.
However, in terms of Maroon 5, the band was formed in 1994 with their first album
release in 1997; therefore their target audiencecould quite easily range fromcurrent
teens to those in their 30s and 40s.
Gaining feedback from the target audience is critical in terms of making
improvements to the video, but also gaining responses for what they think would
work better next time if I were to recreate it. Additionally, it is good to receive more
positive feedback as well to see what worked well in terms of the performance,
filming and construction of the video. Overall, my main purpose for obtaining the
feedback was to see whether the video and the two subsidiary tasks created
conformed to the music genre and fulfilled the purpose of entertainment.
I decided to use two different research methods; a questionnaire that I created on
Survey Monkey, and interviews. Questionnaires produced more quantitative data
that allow me to make more generalised assumptions about the audience’s views of
all three products. The ten questions that I asked were:
1) What do you think of the performer? (open answer)
2) Do you like the narrative/story behind the video? (yes/no)
3) Do you think the video is well put together (in terms of editing) (yes/no/other)
4) Do you think the video fits the pop rock genre of music? (yes/no/other)
5) Do you think the Digipak and Magazine Advert are set out well? (yes/no)
6) Do you like the images used on the Digipak and Magazine Advert? (yes/no)
7) Do you think they go well with the Music Video? (yes/no)
8) Would the music video be one you would choose to watch online? (yes/no)
9) Was there anything in the video you did not understand? If yes, please state
what this was.
10) Overall, are there any suggestions for improvements or anything I should
have done differently?
I think if I was to make any adjustments to the questions that I have asked, I would
probably ask the respondent to leave what gender they are and provide grouped
age ranges so that I had a good idea of the gender and age groups that were
responding to the questionnaire.
By carrying out an interview, I was able to gain a more in depth response from the
person responding. One of the downfalls about this was that I was not able to carry
out too many; however, the more detailed response did give me a lot more
information to work with. I did manage to record the interview after gaining
permission from the respondent and upload it to my blog as evidence of audience
feedback.
Another important aspect of audience feedback wascarrying out research prior to
the creation of my music video and subsidiary tasks. Once I had chosen the song for
the video and therefore the genreof music, I decided that it would be important to
find out what demographic of society this would conform to, and more specifically,
the target audience of Maroon 5. When looking into the followers of their social
media accounts – Facebook, Twitter and YouTube more specifically – I found that
there are followers froma variety of countries, of a varying age range, but also there
were both male and female listeners.
