Lindsay Lohan Essay
Lindsay Lohan was born on July 2, 1986. She is the oldest of 4 kids and her parents are divorced.
Her dad was not very much a part of her life growing up and to this day she does not have anything
to do with him. Lohan was a rising child star who started her acting career at the age of three. She
starred in many commercials before showcasing her fabulous acting ability when she appeared in
the remake of Parent Trap in 1998. She took a little time off after this showcase to be a "normal"
child. After dropping out of high school, she had a few bigger screen acting jobs and some extra
shots in daytime television (Current Biography, 2005). Lohan had a desire to make sure she set a
good image because she knew the audience in which she was ... Show more content on

(2010) P3). Finding more information about her past would be a first approach in trying to figure
out the root of her addictions and behaviors. Lindsay Lohan's behaviors are in a ray of dysfunction,
on the verge of danger. She has reached a point in her life where her actions could lead to possible
suicide. She is psychologically abnormal in her everyday life. (Pappas, 2010, P6) From the
psychodynamic perspective, Lindsay Lohan has had this need of filling a human void. She had a
strong dependency of people. It is unsure if this is because of the absence of her father, but it could
very likely be a key factor. There were no reports that Lohan's mother denied her of her needs
emotionally growing up, but Lohan stated "He didn't do anything for my career, except go out and
not come home at night and make my mom and me stay up and wonder where he was and then
show up three days later. So I don't think he deserves anything. He doesn't even deserve my
respect." (Current Biography, 2005 P12). Object relation theorists say that have a strong need to
have relationships with people and when they are young and have severe problems, this can lead to
abnormal development (Comer, 2011 pg. 40 top). Because Lohan's relationship with her father
consisted of her being worried according to the statement she made in the previous paragraph, she
did not get her need to have a relationship with him; therefore she has an abnormal development.
The lack of a relationship with her father

How To Write A Picnic At Hanging Rock Essay
PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK PRACTICE ESSAY
The novel Picnic at Hanging Rock written by Joan Lindsay in 1967 is set in Australia and tells the
story of a class of female students who attend an exclusive private girls' boarding school called
Appleyard College. In 1900, most of the students and staff go on an excursion to the isolated
Hanging Rock where three girls and a teacher inexplicably vanish after climbing the rock on a
Valentine's Day picnic. The text explores the outlying effects the disappearances have on the school
and local community as the authorities conduct an exhaustive search for the missing four. Picnic at
Hanging Rock has been adapted across numerous mediums and is most renowned in the 1975 film
adaptation by director Peter Weir. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peter Weir's film adaptation of the novel explores many themes and ideas of the original text;
however, through various cinematic techniques, he is able to enhance and bring to life aspects of the
novel such as the rock and the foreign Australian landscape, the innocence of the girls and the
claustrophobic atmosphere of the college, and finally, the terrible effects of the girl's disappearance
on those left behind.
Through the incorporation of soundtrack and camera angles, Weir enhances the rock and Australian
bush by transforming these two aspects of the novel into an even darker and sinister presence which
looms over the individuals in the film. Within Lindsay's novel, the rock is mentioned on several
occasions and is referred to have 'soaring peaks' and a 'powerful presence' which gives readers the
idea that it is a potentially dangerous location. However, in the film, the rock is portrayed like a
character in its own right and is purposely made to be more frightening. The haunting pan pipes are
played in the background when the camera pans on the rock to depict the implacable monoliths as a
menacing creature which lures the girls. Pan was the god who seduced and kidnapped young
nymphs and

The Possibility of Evil by Shirley Jackson
Shirley Jackson emphasizes appearance vs. reality in the short story "The Possibility of Evil"
because looks can be deceiving. Looks can shape how we think of people and in reality they could
be the opposite.
Shirley Jackson's short story "The Possibility of Evil" is set in the 1950's in a small town that
reveals the contradiction between appearances vs. reality. In the story it states, "The sun was
shining, the air was fresh and clear after the nights heavy rain, and everything in Miss
Strangeworths little town looked washed and bright" (Jackson, 223)
Miss Strangeworths town seems nice and perfect. Everyone knows each other very well but are all
oblivious to the fact that each and every one of them have evil lurking inside of them. In the short
story "Lessons of Love" by Judith Ortiz Cofer, the Puerto Rican girl thinks of the senior as a very
perfect and attractive person. But after he kisses her, she realizes that he is no longer what she had
thought about him and is just a player who enjoys playing with the hearts of many girls. Even
though something or someone may look good on the outside, they may not be the same on the
inside. Therefore, I think that appearance vs. reality was shown in the setting of this story.
Appearance vs. reality is shown in "The Possibility of Evil" by Shirley Jackson through character
development because looks can be deceiving. In the story it states that she always uses "a dull stub
of pencil and always prints in a child block print"

Mean girls
Opening image: The first image seen is of a girl's parents telling their daughter goodbye and to have
a good first day at school. The girl's mother is crying because unlike most kids her daughter has
never been to a real school. She is sixteen years old and has been homeschooled all her life.
Theme stated: "I had a lot of friends in Africa. But so far, none in Evanston." This line basically
foreshadows how she has no friends at her new school so far... Which tells us she will meet new
friends and people and that we'll just have to wait and find out whom and how it goes.
Setup: In the first ten minutes of the movie we learn that Cady is our main character and she has

It was going good until Regina decided to speak to Aaron at the Halloween party and lied to him
saying that Cady was crazy and obsessed with him, here are some examples "I know she's kind of
socially retarded and weird, but she's my friend, so just promise me you won't make fun of her."
"She's like a little girl. She, like, writes all over her notebook, "Mrs. Aaron Samuels." And she made
this T–shirt that says "I heart Aaron" and she wears it under all her clothes." And "And OK, look,
I'm not saying she's a stalker, but she saved this Kleenex you used and she said she's going do some
kind of African voodoo with it to make you like her." Regina then kissed them, after all these lies
Aaron became a bit freaked out (but we can tell he likes Cady) and starts dating Regina. Aaron
offers to tutor Cady afterschool and agrees to not tell Regina just in case she'd be mad. While
tutoring they kiss and then breakaway because he doesn't find it fair for Regina. Cady has a huge
party and lots of people went including Aaron. When Aaron finds himself upstairs in Cady's room
he stares at a photo of Cady when she was younger on an elephant. Aaron smiles helplessly and a
song starts playing. Now that everything in the break into three is done, Aaron smiles when Cady is
going to try something new and not talk behind anyone's back and when she gets a 98 in a math test
Aaron says "Welcome back nerd" with a smile. It was clear that

The film that I chose to write about is a Paramount Pictures presentation titled Mean Girls, starring
Lindsay Lohan and also featuring a handful of Saturday Night Live cast members, including Tina
Fey the author of this picture. The reason behind choosing this film is because it has a unique style
of introducing characters, transitioning between scenes, and various tools to help spice up the film.
Being one of my personal favorites, Mean Girls is a comedy about a home schooled teenage girl
who enters high school for the first time. She tries to figure herself out by where she can fit in and
who she needs to become friends with. Cady Heron is the main character (played by Lohan) who
narrates through out the movie. She spent her whole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starting with the easiest to loom, judgment is used from beginning to end, being the base of the
picture. The first to befriend Cady at her new school are Janis and Damien, the "unique art freaks",
as others describe. They kindly show her around, and inform her of what is cool and what isn't. The
Lunchroom is the most important, in that being where you sit is your social status, or your clique –
they have the nerds, Asian nerds, jocks, varsity jocks, burn–outs, girls who eat their feelings, girls
who eat nothing, sexually active band geeks, the Plastics, art freaks, and more. Just by reading the
names of the different cliques, you can see emphases toward judgment and criticism that was used.
If you are not in a certain clique, then you are not liked by or spoken to by that clique. Janis informs
all of this to Cady the same day that the gorgeous Plastics, consisting of Regina– the Bratty Queen
Bee– and the two princesses Gretchen and Karen, confront Cady and is asked by them to join them
for lunch, because she is really pretty. Cady says that eating lunch with them is like leaving the real
world and entering girl world, for example she is given a set of rules like only wearing jeans once a
week, your hair can only be put back once a week, every Wednesday you have to wear pink, and so
on. After lunch, when reunited with Janis and Damien, Janis insists that Cady keeps hanging

Weird Melancholy Of Henry Lawson 's ' The Bush Undertaker...
Weird Melancholy in Henry Lawson's 'The Bush Undertaker' and Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging
Rock
In 1876, in his preface to Adam Lindsay Gordon's Poems, novelist Marcus Clarke coined the phrase
'Weird Melancholy' in reference to what he perceived to be the 'dominant note' of his country's
landscape and his subject's verse. In doing so, he distilled the entire mood of Australian Gothic into
one eerie essence, an essence present, to varying extents, in all texts of that genre. This can be seen
through an examination of two exemplary Australian Gothic texts, each vastly different from the
other in form and content, but united by their pervasive aura of Weirdness and Melancholy: Henry
Lawson's 1894 short story 'The Bush Undertaker' and Peter ... Show more content on

After doing this, a 'great greasy black goanna' (29) causes the hatter the stumble upon the corpse of
his friend, Brummy. In describing the reptile, alliteration serves as emphasis, while the word 'black'
connotes the native Australian whose bones have been disinterred by the protagonist. As he goes
about burying Brummy, the goanna, always accompanied by the epithet 'black', reappears
continually. The man's repeated sightings of the creature link it to something sinister, until it
becomes a symbolic force of justice, frighteningly rebuking the hatter for his profanity of a sacred
site (Lee). The goanna is a metaphor for a divine power, supernatural, fatalistic, and truly Weird.
The idea that human activity is governed by a higher power, resulting in a lack of personal agency,
is also explored in Picnic at Hanging Rock. Even before they arrive at their picnic spot, the convoy
from Appleyard College seem to be greatly affected by Hanging Rock. Mathematics mistress Miss
McCraw seems mesmerised by the monolith, speaking quietly and 'almost nostalgically' (Green 11)
about its creation:
Silicious lava, forced up from deep down below. Soda trachytes extruded in a highly viscous state,
building the steep–sides mametons we see in Hanging Rock. And quite young, geologically
speaking. Barely a millions years old. (Greene, 11)
Vivean Gray's delivery of these lines as though enchanted demonstrates the power of the rock over
the picnickers. Further, her

Stereotypes In Mean Girls
Stereotypes with Comedic Value In the teen comedy Mean Girls, directed by Mark Waters, the
protagonist (Cady Heron) is welcomed into the stereotypical high school setting after being raised in
Africa for all of her educational path. Cady, never being in a public–school setting, comes across the
Plastics: Regina George (unspoken leader), Gretchen Wieners (gossip queen), and Karen Smith (the
stupid, clueless one), who are at the top of the social pyramid. Befriended by the girls, Cady is left
to decide whether or not she belongs in this clique or if her place exists in a different one.
Throughout the film satirist and comedic scenes are used to show the different sexist lenses and
stereotypes that women are viewed with.
Women are perceived in many films, books, television shows, etc. that they are "airheads." In the
film Karen asks Cady "So, if you're from Africa...why are you white?" The comment made in the
scene presents Karen to be incompetent in the way of not having common sense, which displays the
stereotype of women being "airheads". This stereotype presents humorous intent because no one
would expect this type of question to be asked and this is manifested in Rappaport's Punchline
surprise theory; mainly focused on "...unexpected positive events that are experienced as a happy
shock" (pg.16). The theory comes into play because of the blunt question that was asked, which
comes as a surprise to the audience, therefore, the surprise factor brings humor into the scene.

Cady is the 16–year–old self–taught little girl of zoologist guardians. They have come back to the
United States in the wake of dwelling in Africa for a long time for their exploration. Her first
companions in the school, Janis and Damien help her to conform with the school environment. She
is cautioned to stay away from the school's most well known gathering, the Plastics, the gathering

her to sit with them at lunch and run shopping with them after school. After understanding that Cady

`` Mean Girls ' : A New Student At North Shore High School
In Mean Girls (2004), Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) is a new student at North Shore High School.
Throughout the film we hear the narration of Cady and witness the Bildungsroman of her character.
Bildungsroman is known as "a specific subgenre of coming–of–age stories that focus on the
protagonist's psychological and moral growth. Hence, character change is extremely important"
(Kusina, 2015). She has a major culture shock when she goes from being homeschooled in Africa to
being a part of the most popular clique in school: "The Plastics". In the beginning of the movie,
Cady could be described as nerdy, awkward, and a typical home schooled "virgin". She makes
friends with Damian (Daniel Franzese) and Janis Ian (Lizzy Caplan) who tell her all about the
politics of their high school. Janis and Damian give their outsider perspective multitudes of cliques
at their high school.
A clip from Mean Girls that showed each of the social groups, or cliques, in their high school. These
groups were described as; "freshmen, ROTC guys, preps, J.V. jocks, Asian nerds, cool Asians,
Varsity jocks, unfriendly black hotties, girls who eat their feelings, girls who don 't eat anything,
desperate wannabes, burnouts, sexually active band geeks, the greatest people you will ever meet,
and the worst... Beware of Plastics." (filmsite.org) The lack of intersectionality is quite disturbing in
this film when the students described as the "desperate wannabes" were shown in the lunchroom.

Film Analysis Of Mean Girls
Mean Girls directed by Mark Waters is a coming of age movie which follows the high school
journey of Cady Heron. Coming from being home schooled her whole life, 16 year old Cady must
survive high school as she learns it is completely different from the environment in Africa. Mean
Girls addresses subjects such as beauty is only skin deep in a light hearted and comedic manner,
making it a movie that can be enjoyed by all ages while still spreading awareness. Moving from a
secluded friendly place in Africa, Cady has no experience of growing up in the torture that is high
school. She meets 2 new people on her first day who teach her about the school. Not academically,
but socially. She is instantly consumed by the drama that is high school with no sense of how
ruthless high school can be. Even though Mean Girls highly exaggerates high school, I think the
way they did so was super effective in telling a story. I thoroughly enjoyed the comparison of the
animal world which is the world Cady used to come from when living in Africa, to "girl world"
which is where she lives now. As I see it, animal world is full of savage creatures and harm where
all things are resolved with violence whereas in girl world, to survive you must be sneaky and
malicious which were all things Cady had to learn to adapt to. I think this comparison was used to
show how when we are thrown into a new situation, we can feel lost as if we were in a jungle in fear
of our new surroundings. But in Mean Girls, Cady

Movies And Their Messages In the movie Mean Girls, released in April of 2004, you see the
traditional story about the new girl in school and the stereotypes that engulf the adolescent
environment. Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, shows us what life at a corrupted school could
be like for teens that are not so familiar with the American ways of socialization and "surviving" the
potentially threatening lifestyle it could lead on. Sadly, children succumb to it as a result of a dire
need to fit in. In the film, we're first introduced with the impression that high schoolers and the staff
are super strict and have no sympathy for the new students. As it subtly resembles almost a ... Show

but it's happening. This film highly impacts the vulnerability and unsure senses that these teens
have. As the teachers could care less about what's going on in their kids love lives, the kids mostly
think of it as the center of their life at the time. A level of maturity and irresponsibility come in with
these thoughts and priorities. Cady also finds herself making small references back to her original
home, Africa. She sees the other students as simple jungle animals in the wild, survival of the fittest
at its best. That's probably the best metaphor someone could compare high school to, a jungle. An
incontrollable area where children have to grow up and find out who they are and where they fit in
and what they should do. When peers such as your friends or classmates influence your life without
you realizing it, it is determined it's peer pressure. Almost every child is victim to this idea of peer
pressure at some age or the other. It's an identity crisis, while also a constant comparison by parents
and teachers, that makes children "follow the leader" in terms of the social scale. Kids, being in the
process of forming an identity, needs the support and direction by those around them. The only way
possible of making your child strong enough to beat peer pressure is to help him build confidence
and to treat your growing child with respect and as an important individual that will make mistakes.

What Is The Film Picnic At Hanging Rock
Picnic at Hanging Rock is a spectacular film released in 1975, created with the beauty of the
Australian landscape, and a physical representation of director Peter Weir's fascination with the way
the extraordinary and irrational lurk threateningly at the edges of the ordinary and the rational.
Based on a book by Joan Lindsay, Picnic at Hanging Rock takes us to a girls' finishing school in
Australia during 1900, where a group of teenage girls and their teachers embark on a picnic trip to a
local landmark–the Hanging Rock. While the girls rest at the foot of the rock, a group of four girls
begins to explore the rock. However, something unexplained happens and three of the girls fail to

Some believe its true while others believe it's a myth. Regardless, it is a haunting yet engaging film
that captures the serenity and mystic of Hanging Rock located in central Victoria, Australia and the
harshness and mystery of the Australian bush.
Picnic at Hanging Rock brilliantly captures the bush landscape and hot climate of Australia in
multiple high and low angled scenes throughout the entire film. The way the camera cleverly
projects the scale of the vegetation and rock compared to the size of the young girls shows the vast
size and contrasts of our Australian landscape. The blinding sun against some of the scenes causes
the characters dizziness and fatigue, surreally contrasting the rock's beauty and the danger it
presents.
The composer, Peter Weir also creates a dense, dream–like atmosphere throughout the film that
forever is on the verge of intoxicating the viewers, as is does the lead characters, in an overpowering
sense of longing and repression. With soft–focus lenses and careful camera tilts, Weir takes us into a
world of golden glows and gentle whispers, where the characters exist as hazy, evocative

The Generation And The Millennial Generation
While driving on I–95 into the city of Philadelphia, I see dozens of advertisements to the left and
right of me, some promoting education, others jewelry, food, concerts and sporting events.
Everywhere you look, you are bound to faced with some sort of promotion. Whether it is a billboard
while driving, commercial while watching TV, or web advertisement while searching the Internet,
advertisements are everywhere. Their main purpose is to inform or persuade us, the consumers, into
buying the newest product the company is promoting at that time.
In our society we do not realize the effects marketers have on consumers. It is easy for them to
deceive people by using different techniques, like using words such as "sale, convenient, latest," or
even by having appealing pictures going along with products. The main target audience that
marketers aim to influence is the millennial generation. So much of the millennial generation is
influenced through social media and technology. With such an exuberant use and understanding of
technology, marketers realized how to target the most vulnerable group of consumers. Marketer's
upfront goal is being able to sell the certain product, the underlying goal is persuading young
consumers with various marketing techniques leading to negative consequences amongst teens.
While many people may think advertisements can inform people on what they should know, the

Wishful Thinking Meets Reality:
Rhetorical Analysis
Everyone can relate to a time in their life when they desired a "picture–perfect" life with lots of
friends and all the material things they could wish for themselves. However, they realize that maybe
the "picture–perfect" life isn't what they expected once it becomes reality. In the films Freaky Friday
and 13 Going on 30, the audience follows the lives of the protagonists as they face their wishes to
have a "better life". Throughout the essay, we will examine the audiences, goals, and strategies of
these two films, in which we will decide what movie demonstrated the finest job of using the
elements to convey the story.
The remake of the original film, Freaky Friday, was released in 2003. The movie is filled with
drama and laughter as the main character Anna Coleman must live her life in her mother's body as
her mother lives as the daughter, due to a spell cast on them from a fortune in a fortune cookie.
Anna's mother, Tess Colman, and she must learn to adapt to each other's everyday lives and figure
out how to get back to their normal life. The movie 13 Going on 30 follows main character, Jenna
Rink, as she makes a wish at her thirteenth birthday party to become an adult. The next morning,
Jenna finds herself as an adult and she attempts to live as a responsible adult. In both movies the
audience will follow the characters as they discover that sometimes what you wish for may come

Which was extremely jarring switching from this dubbed audio to the original, and speaking of that
why wasn't the dubbed audio properly mixed with the unrubbed audio. David could have made it
about ten times less jarring if they had mixed the audio correctly. The second major flaw of the film
would be Margaret's acting. I know that David was probably trying to make her seem like she was
cold and disconnected from the world. But in reality the acting is so wooden and stiff nothing gets
through. The bad thing is there are far better example of characters being disconnected and cold to
the world. But that doesn't mean that the actors have to be robots reading lines monotonely off of
the script.
But overall House of Games, with its few minor flaws like dubbing and a few acting issues. It is a
film that will make audiences think. It will make them wonder who is who coning who? While
keeping them on the edge of their

the rage in television shows and movies. No matter what movie you watch, there is likely to be an
underlining female connection that connects to almost anyone. The film illustrates what high school
cliques can do and the effect that they can have. THESIS

Archetype In Mean Girls
"This is girls' world, all of the fightings had to be sneaky." Said by Lindsay Lohan in the movie,
Mean Girls. The entertainment and fairytales stories have a tendency to have women going against
each other. Cinderella has mainly had her stepmother and step–sisters keeping her busy with chores
for twenty–four hours. While Rapunzel is stuck in a high tower alone because of a witch. Not only
classic fairy tales have this pattern, but songs have this same formula. Notably, Taylor Swift is
known for her bitter reputation of calling out her ex–boyfriends, but also writes songs calling out
women. Lastly, movies will show women fighting against each other for the comedy effect
especially Mean Girls. In stories, women characters tend to destroy other female archetypes for
power. The classic story of Cinderella has women degrading each other. She lives with her
stepmother and stepsisters. After her father died, she became her slave to them. The archetype of the
mother is that she is a witch. Her archetype is a witch because they tend to manipulate the princess
badly. She abused Cinderella and later on tells her that she can not go to the ball. As for Cinderella,
her archetype would be the princess. She is the princess because of acts like the damsel in distress.
Cinderella is docile when her family bossing around. Her stepmother is controlling her freedom.
Another example that is similar to Cinderella is Rapunzel. The story of Rapunzel is also a classic
fairytale where a witch

Film Analysis Of The Movie Mean Girls
In today's world bullying is a significant problem not only affecting America but the whole world. If
you believed it was hard for you to go to school when you were young you won't believe how much
harder it is to be a teenager today. The movie "Mean Girls" is a valuable movie because, although in
a comedic sense it offers an insight into the bullying aspects of high school and how it affects teen
girls. The viscous cycle of rumors not fitting in and doing anything and everything to fit in along
with the emotional scars that bullying leaves behind. The film "Mean Girls" follows a young teen
that has never been exposed to high school life her name is Cady Heron. She starts high school and
she is so naïve about everything that goes on in school and believes everyone is nice. Once she gets
a glimpse of the "plastics" she's mesmerized by how cool and confident they are. Regina George is
the one in charge of the plastics the "Queen Bee". She has two minions Gretchen Wieners and Karen
Smith. Life is perfect for the plastics or so it seems. Cady Heron gets invited to join the plastics and
that's when she realizes little by little on what it takes to be cool (Messick Waters, 2004). The film
"Mean Girls" connects with its target audience which consists of teenagers by using humor. Most of
the movie is funny but there is an underlying message that is so subtly intertwined to show a lesson
without it being so in your face. There's a moment in the movie where Cady is faced with

Representation Of Victorian Society In Joan Lindsay's...
Joan Lindsay, the renowned author of the seminal Australian novel Picnic at Hanging Rock, has
foreground the representation of Victorian society as repressed and constrained through the
characterisation of various figures throughout the novel. The riveting tale ensues the inexplicable
disappearance of three girls and a governess, with only one girl to ever be seen again, during
Appleyard College's annual picnic to the supernatural Hanging Rock on Valentine's Day in 1900.
One of the central themes in the narrative is the depiction of the Victorian Society as uptight and
controlled, which has been established by several characters, including Miss McCraw, Mrs
Appleyard and Mademoiselle. Miss McCraw, the eccentric mathematics tutor, is one of the least
likely to vanish. Nevertheless, this is precisely what occurs and through this aberrant disappearance
a notion is presented that excessive suppression results in radical methods of release. Moreover, the
portrayal of Mrs Appleyard develops the readers' perception of Victorian society and displays how
rigid social constraints will eventually breakdown. In contrast, Mademoiselle, the passionate arts
governess, juxtaposes the previously mentioned characters by being caring and affectionate towards
the girls. The characterisation of these individuals throughout Picnic at Hanging Rock contributes to
the overall portrayal of Victorian society as uptight and stifled and progresses the reader's
understanding of this representation. Joan

Oppression In Women
Oppression is perpetuated in our society through supremacy and discrimination. Women of color
have been subjected to the justifications of unfair treatment from their oppressors– both male and
female– for generations and are expected to identify with misconceived definitions that have been
externally attributed to their own realities. There is an immense pressure on the women of color who
have broken out of the cycle of this socioeconomic imprisonment to maintain their standing within
society 's good graces. This is often discussed as though these women have something to hide, as
though a friendly and modest demeanor are enough to erase the layers of transgenerational trauma
from sight of the very same oppressors that caused it. At the ... Show more content on

Claudia Rankine, an award–winning poet and essayist who 's work often revolves around racial
themes, wrote an article for The New York Times in 2015 entitled "The Meaning of Serena

accurately convey the ability she has to bend situations to her will and thrive under circumstances of
her own creation. However, Rodrick takes on an underlying tone of critical commentary whereas
Rankine uses one of comradery and empowerment. Throughout his writing, Rodrick makes
Williams ' out to be someone who has completely bought into materialism and has a knack for self–
indulging gluttony. Zeroing in on irrelevant comments about her lifestyle (such as her excitement to
get her nails done and her unenthusiastic response to being reminded about morning practice)
Rodrick writes, "No athlete alive dominates a sport like Serena Williams does tennis. But on the
whole, she 'd rather be eating a cinnamon roll" (Rodrick). In context, a comment like this serves to
police and shame her unrestricted nutritional choices. His writing lacks perspective and, although he
does occasionally intersperse tidbits of factual information into his dearth narrative, he tends to do
so in a scathingly dismissive way. Rankine does not trivialize Williams '

Stereotypes In Mean Girls
Stereotypes with Comedic Value The teen comedy Mean Girls, directed by Mark Waters, welcomes
the protagonist (Cady Heron) into the stereotypical high school setting after being raised in Africa
for all of her educational path.
The use of
satirist and comedic scenes throughout the film show the different sexist lenses and stereotypes that
women are viewed with.
The theory comes into play because of the blunt question that was insisted, which
comes as a surprise to the audience. Nevertheless, the surprise factor brings humor into the scene.

Examples Of Logical Fallacies In Advertising
Advertisements are everywhere, on television, radio, social media, billboards, magazines, and even
on yearbooks. On the other hand, would it not be nice if every advertisement an individual saw,
read, or heard were actually true? Like using Axe body spray really did attract women or eating
Snickers really made one satisfied in seconds? Yet, most of the times the advertisements that seem
too good to be true, actually are. In fact, many ads are only slightly true and instead filled with many
common errors in reasoning, known as logical fallacies, a sneaky marketing technique many
companies use to trick a consumer into giving them their undivided attention and money. In fact,

Plain folk is the marketing strategy where advertisers portray a person like a well–known celebrity
like Lindsey Lohan as a person who is in fact, normal or an everyday Joe. For instance, Lohan
explains that even though she is a singer and actress she is just like anyone else, a person who
struggles with having unclear, bumpy, and acne–prone skin stating, "I'm a normal person and I do
get zits and I'm not happy when I do so I like to try and find anything that's preventative towards it
and Proactiv has done that for me." By promoting a person, in this case as Lindsay Lohan, a person
who suffers from the same problems as acne, like anyone else, people gain trust and feel comforted,
resulting in the individual being more open and willing to buy a product. Then again Proactiv is not
the only company that has used and uses logical fallacies in their advertisements to trick people into
buying their products. In fact, if one were to close enough to the advertisements and commercials
that are around them, they would start to see how life is filled with false statements, logical fallacies,
and ultimately scams. Perhaps, people will think twice and be more cautious when buying a product,
knowing that in the end they might just be wasting their

Socialization In The Movie : Mean Girls
In the movie "Mean Girls", released in 2004, followed through the life of a girl named Cady, played
by Lindsay Lohan. Cady faced a new chapter in her life when she attended in a high school for the
first time. Where the "Plastics" rule the school and infested it with drama, the group runs by four
teenage girls, Regina, the leader, Gretchen, the pretty princess, Karen, the dummy girl, and later on
Cady joined the group as "a pretender". This movie truly shows what a teenage life at a drama
infested high school looks like when teenagers that are not familiar with the American ways in
socialize with other people and how to survive the potentially threatening lifestyle that could affect a
person mental. According to Marxist theory or known as Conflict theory. The higher power people,
the Bourgeoisie, always takes advantage over the lower class people, the Proletarians; thus, both
sides are always creating conflict over resources, careers, finances, etc. Socialization will need to be
changed because of the constant conflicts from both sides. In the movie, the Plastics could be
viewed as the Bourgeoisie, because the group has the highest popularity among other students and
popularity breeds powers. For example, Regina is very powerful in the school and she controls
every bit in the group, from what other girls need to wear on a certain day and time, who they
cannot date. The other members in the group never stood up to Regina over the things that she
demands them to and genuinely

Stereotypes In Mean Girls
Stereotypically, men and women have very different roles in the eyes of society. Gender roles and
stereotypes have a history in religious, political, legal and economic systems. In reality, men and
women are more alike than most people assume. Throughout the world there are struggles with
identity, power, and violence occurring everyday between both men and women. The film Mean
Girls, directed by Mark Walters, follows a young girl, Cady's, transition from being home schooled

film each character struggles with their true identity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to the stereotype of physical appearance connected to identity, appearance is also connected
to power among the girls in Mean Girls. Because of the role appearance plays in one's identity and
power, Regina George in Mean Girls pays close attention to her appearance. While watching Regina
and her friends attend their P.E. class, Janis and Damian explain Regina George to Cady.
JANIS: Regina George. How do I even begin to explain Regina George?
RANDOM COMMENTS ABOUT REGINA: Regina George is flawless. She has two Fendi bags
and a silver Lexus. I hear her hair is insured for $10,000. I hear she does car commercials in Japan.
Her favorite movie is "Varsity Blues." One time she met John Stamos on a plane. And he told her
she was pretty. One time she punched me in the face. It was awesome.
Regina's "flawless" appearance established her power among other girls. Among high school girls,
power is stereotypically established through looks. As shown in Mean Girls, girls will look up the
person they feel has the ideal appearance. The random comments said about Regina indicate that she
is idolized by many of the girls attending North Shore High School. Other girls know everything
about her, because they want to be just like her. This entrenches Regina's position at the school. In
contrast to Regina and other girls from Mean Girls, the boys on the island use fear to establish
power. There are

Serena Williams, The French Open Final Saturday Essay
Serena Williams lost the French Open final Saturday to Garbine Muguruza. It marked her third
failed attempt to win a 22nd singles Grand Slam title, which would tie the Open–era record set by
Steffi Graf. Williams was extremely gracious in defeat as she addressed the crowd at Roland Garros
in French. The tennis icon can afford to be gracious these days: She earned $28.9 million over the
past 12 months. That makes her the world's highest–paid female athlete over that span, unseating
Maria Sharapova, who had held the title the past 11 years.
US player Serena Williams returns the ball to Netherlands ' Kiki Bertens during their women 's
semi–final match at the Roland Garros 2016 French Tennis Open in Paris on June 3, 2016.
A drug suspension dinged Sharapova's earnings, but Williams was likely to grab the title of top–paid
female athlete even with Sharapova not sidelined. Williams, 34, has dominated her sport for a
decade and a half. She won her second Grand Slam in 2002 and has added 19 more since then. Her
career prize money of $77.6 million is more than twice as much as any other female athlete.
Her late–career tear has made Williams a compelling figure for marketers. She ranks second among
active athletes, behind only LeBron James in the U.S., on Repucom's CelebrityDBI, which tracks

The Reality Of Hollywood Schools Vs. Reality
Hollywood schools vs reality
A person might be afraid of the "mean girl" group, or about what the "dumb jocks" say. Hollywood
makes it seem different than what the reality actually is. Maybe that's why high schoolers may be a

Some kids are afraid of the first day of middle school. They're are preparing themselves for that

A moral holiday is a time where social norms are broken. In Mean Girls, Halloween is portrayed as
a moral holiday since the girls dressed as sluts. It was a special occasion where the girls wore
lingerie and animal ears, which is not an everyday outfit. Social norms are unwritten rules of
behavior that one is expected to follow in specific situations. Cady has a difficult time adjusting to
the social norms in the public school. As stated in the movie, "I had never lived in a world where
adults didn't trust me, "she says. For example, adults always yelled at her, and teachers told her not
to read ahead or eat in the classroom. She assumed everyone was friendly, but that happened to be
untrue. In addition, there are a variety of social norms that the "Plastics" have to follow. After
Regina invites Cady to join, Gretchen describes all of the rules that Cady must follow in order to
continue to hang out with them and sit at their table. The rules include: only being able to wear a
pony tail once a week, not being able to wear a tank top two days in a row, must wear a pink shirt on

then she is kicked out of the table and has to go find another group. Mores, which is a type of norm,

Analysis Of Mean Girls
Teen girl films are Janus–like in nature, being aimed at teen girls themselves, but also at opening up
the world of teen girls to their parents and society at large. The marketing for Mark Water's 2004
film Mean Girls reflects this divided focus, using a two–pronged approach to attempt to attract the
largest range of paying customers. On an aesthetic level, from the appearance of the promotional
website to the music used in the trailers, the film tries is aimed at teenage girls. However, on a less
superficial level, the high–brow humor used in the promotional videos and the written content of the
website, is aimed at adults. Mean Girls is praised for success in spite of genre, and the praise is
focused it's satire and humor. This is indicative of a larger trend in views on teen girl films. A real
teen girl's life may revolve around passing midterms or trying to fit in at school, but a film about
those struggles must views those struggles with humor. The personal drama in the lives of teenage
girls isn't taken seriously by this film or it's marketing, and critics and studios don't think it should
be. At first glance, the theatrical trailer for Mean Girls fulfills all clichés the 'high school' or 'teen
girl' genre. Our protagonist, Cady, is the new girl school, who's been homeschool her entire life. Her

Lindsay Lohan Essay

  • 1. Lindsay Lohan Essay Lindsay Lohan was born on July 2, 1986. She is the oldest of 4 kids and her parents are divorced. Her dad was not very much a part of her life growing up and to this day she does not have anything to do with him. Lohan was a rising child star who started her acting career at the age of three. She starred in many commercials before showcasing her fabulous acting ability when she appeared in the remake of Parent Trap in 1998. She took a little time off after this showcase to be a "normal" child. After dropping out of high school, she had a few bigger screen acting jobs and some extra shots in daytime television (Current Biography, 2005). Lohan had a desire to make sure she set a good image because she knew the audience in which she was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2010) P3). Finding more information about her past would be a first approach in trying to figure out the root of her addictions and behaviors. Lindsay Lohan's behaviors are in a ray of dysfunction, on the verge of danger. She has reached a point in her life where her actions could lead to possible suicide. She is psychologically abnormal in her everyday life. (Pappas, 2010, P6) From the psychodynamic perspective, Lindsay Lohan has had this need of filling a human void. She had a strong dependency of people. It is unsure if this is because of the absence of her father, but it could very likely be a key factor. There were no reports that Lohan's mother denied her of her needs emotionally growing up, but Lohan stated "He didn't do anything for my career, except go out and not come home at night and make my mom and me stay up and wonder where he was and then show up three days later. So I don't think he deserves anything. He doesn't even deserve my respect." (Current Biography, 2005 P12). Object relation theorists say that have a strong need to have relationships with people and when they are young and have severe problems, this can lead to abnormal development (Comer, 2011 pg. 40 top). Because Lohan's relationship with her father consisted of her being worried according to the statement she made in the previous paragraph, she did not get her need to have a relationship with him; therefore she has an abnormal development. The lack of a relationship with her father ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. How To Write A Picnic At Hanging Rock Essay PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK PRACTICE ESSAY The novel Picnic at Hanging Rock written by Joan Lindsay in 1967 is set in Australia and tells the story of a class of female students who attend an exclusive private girls' boarding school called Appleyard College. In 1900, most of the students and staff go on an excursion to the isolated Hanging Rock where three girls and a teacher inexplicably vanish after climbing the rock on a Valentine's Day picnic. The text explores the outlying effects the disappearances have on the school and local community as the authorities conduct an exhaustive search for the missing four. Picnic at Hanging Rock has been adapted across numerous mediums and is most renowned in the 1975 film adaptation by director Peter Weir. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Peter Weir's film adaptation of the novel explores many themes and ideas of the original text; however, through various cinematic techniques, he is able to enhance and bring to life aspects of the novel such as the rock and the foreign Australian landscape, the innocence of the girls and the claustrophobic atmosphere of the college, and finally, the terrible effects of the girl's disappearance on those left behind. Through the incorporation of soundtrack and camera angles, Weir enhances the rock and Australian bush by transforming these two aspects of the novel into an even darker and sinister presence which looms over the individuals in the film. Within Lindsay's novel, the rock is mentioned on several occasions and is referred to have 'soaring peaks' and a 'powerful presence' which gives readers the idea that it is a potentially dangerous location. However, in the film, the rock is portrayed like a character in its own right and is purposely made to be more frightening. The haunting pan pipes are played in the background when the camera pans on the rock to depict the implacable monoliths as a menacing creature which lures the girls. Pan was the god who seduced and kidnapped young nymphs and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Possibility of Evil by Shirley Jackson Shirley Jackson emphasizes appearance vs. reality in the short story "The Possibility of Evil" because looks can be deceiving. Looks can shape how we think of people and in reality they could be the opposite. Shirley Jackson's short story "The Possibility of Evil" is set in the 1950's in a small town that reveals the contradiction between appearances vs. reality. In the story it states, "The sun was shining, the air was fresh and clear after the nights heavy rain, and everything in Miss Strangeworths little town looked washed and bright" (Jackson, 223) Miss Strangeworths town seems nice and perfect. Everyone knows each other very well but are all oblivious to the fact that each and every one of them have evil lurking inside of them. In the short story "Lessons of Love" by Judith Ortiz Cofer, the Puerto Rican girl thinks of the senior as a very perfect and attractive person. But after he kisses her, she realizes that he is no longer what she had thought about him and is just a player who enjoys playing with the hearts of many girls. Even though something or someone may look good on the outside, they may not be the same on the inside. Therefore, I think that appearance vs. reality was shown in the setting of this story. Appearance vs. reality is shown in "The Possibility of Evil" by Shirley Jackson through character development because looks can be deceiving. In the story it states that she always uses "a dull stub of pencil and always prints in a child block print" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Blake Snyder Beat Sheet Blake Snyder Beat Sheet October 19 2012 Mean girls Opening image: The first image seen is of a girl's parents telling their daughter goodbye and to have a good first day at school. The girl's mother is crying because unlike most kids her daughter has never been to a real school. She is sixteen years old and has been homeschooled all her life. Theme stated: "I had a lot of friends in Africa. But so far, none in Evanston." This line basically foreshadows how she has no friends at her new school so far... Which tells us she will meet new friends and people and that we'll just have to wait and find out whom and how it goes. Setup: In the first ten minutes of the movie we learn that Cady is our main character and she has moved from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was going good until Regina decided to speak to Aaron at the Halloween party and lied to him saying that Cady was crazy and obsessed with him, here are some examples "I know she's kind of socially retarded and weird, but she's my friend, so just promise me you won't make fun of her." "She's like a little girl. She, like, writes all over her notebook, "Mrs. Aaron Samuels." And she made this T–shirt that says "I heart Aaron" and she wears it under all her clothes." And "And OK, look, I'm not saying she's a stalker, but she saved this Kleenex you used and she said she's going do some kind of African voodoo with it to make you like her." Regina then kissed them, after all these lies Aaron became a bit freaked out (but we can tell he likes Cady) and starts dating Regina. Aaron offers to tutor Cady afterschool and agrees to not tell Regina just in case she'd be mad. While tutoring they kiss and then breakaway because he doesn't find it fair for Regina. Cady has a huge party and lots of people went including Aaron. When Aaron finds himself upstairs in Cady's room he stares at a photo of Cady when she was younger on an elephant. Aaron smiles helplessly and a song starts playing. Now that everything in the break into three is done, Aaron smiles when Cady is going to try something new and not talk behind anyone's back and when she gets a 98 in a math test Aaron says "Welcome back nerd" with a smile. • 5. Mean Girls Essay The film that I chose to write about is a Paramount Pictures presentation titled Mean Girls, starring Lindsay Lohan and also featuring a handful of Saturday Night Live cast members, including Tina Fey the author of this picture. The reason behind choosing this film is because it has a unique style of introducing characters, transitioning between scenes, and various tools to help spice up the film. Being one of my personal favorites, Mean Girls is a comedy about a home schooled teenage girl who enters high school for the first time. She tries to figure herself out by where she can fit in and who she needs to become friends with. Cady Heron is the main character (played by Lohan) who narrates through out the movie. She spent her whole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starting with the easiest to loom, judgment is used from beginning to end, being the base of the picture. The first to befriend Cady at her new school are Janis and Damien, the "unique art freaks", as others describe. They kindly show her around, and inform her of what is cool and what isn't. The Lunchroom is the most important, in that being where you sit is your social status, or your clique – they have the nerds, Asian nerds, jocks, varsity jocks, burn–outs, girls who eat their feelings, girls who eat nothing, sexually active band geeks, the Plastics, art freaks, and more. Just by reading the names of the different cliques, you can see emphases toward judgment and criticism that was used. If you are not in a certain clique, then you are not liked by or spoken to by that clique. Janis informs all of this to Cady the same day that the gorgeous Plastics, consisting of Regina– the Bratty Queen Bee– and the two princesses Gretchen and Karen, confront Cady and is asked by them to join them for lunch, because she is really pretty. Cady says that eating lunch with them is like leaving the real world and entering girl world, for example she is given a set of rules like only wearing jeans once a week, your hair can only be put back once a week, every Wednesday you have to wear pink, and so on. After lunch, when reunited with Janis and Damien, Janis insists that Cady keeps hanging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Weird Melancholy Of Henry Lawson 's ' The Bush Undertaker... Weird Melancholy in Henry Lawson's 'The Bush Undertaker' and Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging Rock In 1876, in his preface to Adam Lindsay Gordon's Poems, novelist Marcus Clarke coined the phrase 'Weird Melancholy' in reference to what he perceived to be the 'dominant note' of his country's landscape and his subject's verse. In doing so, he distilled the entire mood of Australian Gothic into one eerie essence, an essence present, to varying extents, in all texts of that genre. This can be seen through an examination of two exemplary Australian Gothic texts, each vastly different from the other in form and content, but united by their pervasive aura of Weirdness and Melancholy: Henry Lawson's 1894 short story 'The Bush Undertaker' and Peter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After doing this, a 'great greasy black goanna' (29) causes the hatter the stumble upon the corpse of his friend, Brummy. In describing the reptile, alliteration serves as emphasis, while the word 'black' connotes the native Australian whose bones have been disinterred by the protagonist. As he goes about burying Brummy, the goanna, always accompanied by the epithet 'black', reappears continually. The man's repeated sightings of the creature link it to something sinister, until it becomes a symbolic force of justice, frighteningly rebuking the hatter for his profanity of a sacred site (Lee). The goanna is a metaphor for a divine power, supernatural, fatalistic, and truly Weird. The idea that human activity is governed by a higher power, resulting in a lack of personal agency, is also explored in Picnic at Hanging Rock. Even before they arrive at their picnic spot, the convoy from Appleyard College seem to be greatly affected by Hanging Rock. Mathematics mistress Miss McCraw seems mesmerised by the monolith, speaking quietly and 'almost nostalgically' (Green 11) about its creation: Silicious lava, forced up from deep down below. Soda trachytes extruded in a highly viscous state, building the steep–sides mametons we see in Hanging Rock. And quite young, geologically speaking. Barely a millions years old. (Greene, 11) Vivean Gray's delivery of these lines as though enchanted demonstrates the power of the rock over the picnickers. Further, her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Stereotypes In Mean Girls Stereotypes with Comedic Value In the teen comedy Mean Girls, directed by Mark Waters, the protagonist (Cady Heron) is welcomed into the stereotypical high school setting after being raised in Africa for all of her educational path. Cady, never being in a public–school setting, comes across the Plastics: Regina George (unspoken leader), Gretchen Wieners (gossip queen), and Karen Smith (the stupid, clueless one), who are at the top of the social pyramid. Befriended by the girls, Cady is left to decide whether or not she belongs in this clique or if her place exists in a different one. Throughout the film satirist and comedic scenes are used to show the different sexist lenses and stereotypes that women are viewed with. Women are perceived in many films, books, television shows, etc. that they are "airheads." In the film Karen asks Cady "So, if you're from Africa...why are you white?" The comment made in the scene presents Karen to be incompetent in the way of not having common sense, which displays the stereotype of women being "airheads". This stereotype presents humorous intent because no one would expect this type of question to be asked and this is manifested in Rappaport's Punchline surprise theory; mainly focused on "...unexpected positive events that are experienced as a happy shock" (pg.16). The theory comes into play because of the blunt question that was asked, which comes as a surprise to the audience, therefore, the surprise factor brings humor into the scene. The ... They have come back to the United States in the wake of dwelling in Africa for a long time for their exploration. Her first companions in the school, Janis and Damien help her to conform with the school environment. The Plastics appreciate Cady, welcoming her to sit with them at lunch and run shopping with them after school. Throughout the film we hear the narration of Cady and witness the Bildungsroman of her character. Bildungsroman is known as "a specific subgenre of coming–of–age stories that focus on the protagonist's psychological and moral growth. Hence, character change is extremely important" (Kusina, 2015). She has a major culture shock when she goes from being homeschooled in Africa to being a part of the most popular clique in school: "The Plastics". In the beginning of the movie, Cady could be described as nerdy, awkward, and a typical home schooled "virgin". She makes friends with Damian (Daniel Franzese) and Janis Ian (Lizzy Caplan) who tell her all about the politics of their high school. Janis and Damian give their outsider perspective multitudes of cliques at their high school. A clip from Mean Girls that showed each of the social groups, or cliques, in their high school. • 11. Film Analysis Of Mean Girls Mean Girls directed by Mark Waters is a coming of age movie which follows the high school journey of Cady Heron. Coming from being home schooled her whole life, 16 year old Cady must survive high school as she learns it is completely different from the environment in Africa. Mean Girls addresses subjects such as beauty is only skin deep in a light hearted and comedic manner, making it a movie that can be enjoyed by all ages while still spreading awareness. Moving from a secluded friendly place in Africa, Cady has no experience of growing up in the torture that is high school. She meets 2 new people on her first day who teach her about the school. Not academically, but socially. She is instantly consumed by the drama that is high school with no sense of how ruthless high school can be. Even though Mean Girls highly exaggerates high school, I think the way they did so was super effective in telling a story. I thoroughly enjoyed the comparison of the animal world which is the world Cady used to come from when living in Africa, to "girl world" which is where she lives now. As I see it, animal world is full of savage creatures and harm where all things are resolved with violence whereas in girl world, to survive you must be sneaky and malicious which were all things Cady had to learn to adapt to. I think this comparison was used to show how when we are thrown into a new situation, we can feel lost as if we were in a jungle in fear of our new surroundings. But in Mean Girls, Cady ... Mean Girls Sociology Essay Stacey Smith 2/14/2013 Sociology 101 George Kinder Movies And Their Messages In the movie Mean Girls, released in April of 2004, you see the traditional story about the new girl in school and the stereotypes that engulf the adolescent environment. Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, shows us what life at a corrupted school could be like for teens that are not so familiar with the American ways of socialization and "surviving" the potentially threatening lifestyle it could lead on. Sadly, children succumb to it as a result of a dire need to fit in. In the film, we're first introduced with the impression that high schoolers and the staff are super strict and have no sympathy for the new students. As it subtly resembles almost a ... As the teachers could care less about what's going on in their kids love lives, the kids mostly think of it as the center of their life at the time. A level of maturity and irresponsibility come in with these thoughts and priorities. Cady also finds herself making small references back to her original home, Africa. She sees the other students as simple jungle animals in the wild, survival of the fittest at its best. That's probably the best metaphor someone could compare high school to, a jungle. An incontrollable area where children have to grow up and find out who they are and where they fit in and what they should do. When peers such as your friends or classmates influence your life without you realizing it, it is determined it's peer pressure. Almost every child is victim to this idea of peer pressure at some age or the other. It's an identity crisis, while also a constant comparison by parents and teachers, that makes children "follow the leader" in terms of the social scale. Kids, being in the process of forming an identity, needs the support and direction by those around them. The only way possible of making your child strong enough to beat peer pressure is to help him build confidence and to treat your growing child with respect and as an important individual that will make mistakes. What Is The Film Picnic At Hanging Rock Picnic at Hanging Rock is a spectacular film released in 1975, created with the beauty of the Australian landscape, and a physical representation of director Peter Weir's fascination with the way the extraordinary and irrational lurk threateningly at the edges of the ordinary and the rational. Based on a book by Joan Lindsay, Picnic at Hanging Rock takes us to a girls' finishing school in Australia during 1900, where a group of teenage girls and their teachers embark on a picnic trip to a local landmark–the Hanging Rock. While the girls rest at the foot of the rock, a group of four girls begins to explore the rock. However, something unexplained happens and three of the girls fail to return. Regardless, it is a haunting yet engaging film that captures the serenity and mystic of Hanging Rock located in central Victoria, Australia and the harshness and mystery of the Australian bush. The way the camera cleverly projects the scale of the vegetation and rock compared to the size of the young girls shows the vast size and contrasts of our Australian landscape. The blinding sun against some of the scenes causes the characters dizziness and fatigue, surreally contrasting the rock's beauty and the danger it presents. The composer, Peter Weir also creates a dense, dream–like atmosphere throughout the film that forever is on the verge of intoxicating the viewers, as is does the lead characters, in an overpowering sense of longing and repression. • 21. Archetype In Mean Girls "This is girls' world, all of the fightings had to be sneaky." Said by Lindsay Lohan in the movie, Mean Girls. The entertainment and fairytales stories have a tendency to have women going against each other. Cinderella has mainly had her stepmother and step–sisters keeping her busy with chores for twenty–four hours. While Rapunzel is stuck in a high tower alone because of a witch. Not only classic fairy tales have this pattern, but songs have this same formula. Notably, Taylor Swift is known for her bitter reputation of calling out her ex–boyfriends, but also writes songs calling out women. Lastly, movies will show women fighting against each other for the comedy effect especially Mean Girls. In stories, women characters tend to destroy other female archetypes for power. The classic story of Cinderella has women degrading each other. She lives with her stepmother and stepsisters. After her father died, she became her slave to them. The archetype of the mother is that she is a witch. Her archetype is a witch because they tend to manipulate the princess badly. She abused Cinderella and later on tells her that she can not go to the ball. As for Cinderella, her archetype would be the princess. She is the princess because of acts like the damsel in distress. Befriended by the girls, Cady is left to decide whether or not she belongs in this clique or if her place exists in a different one. The use of satirist and comedic scenes throughout the film show the different sexist lenses and stereotypes that women are viewed with. It marked her third failed attempt to win a 22nd singles Grand Slam title, which would tie the Open–era record set by Steffi Graf. The tennis icon can afford to be gracious these days: She earned $28.9 million over the past 12 months. That makes her the world's highest–paid female athlete over that span, unseating Maria Sharapova, who had held the title the past 11 years. US player Serena Williams returns the ball to Netherlands ' Kiki Bertens during their women 's semi–final match at the Roland Garros 2016 French Tennis Open in Paris on June 3, 2016. Social norms are unwritten rules of behavior that one is expected to follow in specific situations. Cady has a difficult time adjusting to the social norms in the public school. As stated in the movie, "I had never lived in a world where adults didn't trust me, "she says. For example, adults always yelled at her, and teachers told her not to read ahead or eat in the classroom. She assumed everyone was friendly, but that happened to be untrue. In addition, there are a variety of social norms that the "Plastics" have to follow. • 38. Analysis Of Mean Girls Teen girl films are Janus–like in nature, being aimed at teen girls themselves, but also at opening up the world of teen girls to their parents and society at large. The marketing for Mark Water's 2004 film Mean Girls reflects this divided focus, using a two–pronged approach to attempt to attract the largest range of paying customers. On an aesthetic level, from the appearance of the promotional website to the music used in the trailers, the film tries is aimed at teenage girls. However, on a less superficial level, the high–brow humor used in the promotional videos and the written content of the website, is aimed at adults. Mean Girls is praised for success in spite of genre, and the praise is focused it's satire and humor. This is indicative of a larger trend in views on teen girl films. A real teen girl's life may revolve around passing midterms or trying to fit in at school, but a film about those struggles must views those struggles with humor. The personal drama in the lives of teenage girls isn't taken seriously by this film or it's marketing, and critics and studios don't think it should be. At first glance, the theatrical trailer for Mean Girls fulfills all clichés the 'high school' or 'teen girl' genre.
