VARK Learning Style Analysis
The different possible ways I learn according to VARK.
VARK is a system created to help students understand their style of learning. The system was created
by Neil Fleming. The VARK system stands for Visual Learner, Auditory Learners, Reading/ Writing
Learners, and Kinesthetic Learners. (Reserved, Training, Policy, Policy, n.d.)

The learning style read/write means I learn best when I am reading text from a web page, book, or
illustration, while also writing down notes in the form of essays reports or an assignments. I do find
learning easier when I have the material in front of me in the form of a textbook, webpage, graphs and
demonstrations. While studying I will also use headings on table of context to look up subjects when
researching. Now that the internet is available for studying the answers are at my fingertips. The
subject can be found by a few words in the google search bar. While at work I find researching a
subject is imperative. I must use different sites, text and also books to properly administer computer

The Way of the Wind by Amos Oz Essay
The Way of the Wind by Amos Oz, is about a man named Shimshon Sheinbaum, and his view of his
son, Gideon. Shimshon was a military, political, and social hero amongst his kibbutz. He is a founding
father of the Hebrew Labor Movement. People in his kibbutz looked for him for guidance, because
this man was in top physical and mental shape devoting all of his life to learning as much as necessary
and the remainder to stay in peak shape. As one can imagine, he would expect the same of his son, and
he does but his son isn t the same man as his father. His father didn t have someone else make a
decision like that for him and he can t make that decision for Gideon. Shimshon, regardless how much
he cared for his son, pushed him too far and had too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shimshon, who→ was elated that→ his son chose to be a paratrooper, and was a military hero, pulled
some strings and allowed Gideon to enter without his mother s permission. Gideon was not the
confident type so it was a shock to everyone that→ he did something as daring as jump out of an
airplane, but this transformed Gideon, he became confident and in peak physical shape. Gideon was
adored by his kibbutz and one day the paratrooper s did a presentation for the community, Gideon was
the last man to jump and the whole kibbutz was aching to watch him in action. Little kids screamed
Gideon! Gideon! when he jumped the wind took control and he was pushed into electrical wires.
Dangling 30 feet above the air with kids yelling at him and his dad trying to make him come down so
he wouldn t get embarrassed Gideon died, his little brother, Azariah climbed the pole and was in his
brothers face, mocking him as Gideon died. Shimshon was embarrassed, and disappointed when
Gideon died. He hoped that→ Gideon would give him many grandchildren. Now at 75 and his only
alive son Azariah who→ was an 8 year old inconvenience, Sheinbaum might never live to see his
grandchildren. If Shimshon never pushed Gideon too far and expected so much of him, Gideon would

Analysis of Andre; S Mother by Terrence Mcnally Essay
Analysis of Andre s Mother by Terrence McNally
The play, Andre s Mother, by Terrence McNally is a story about accepting death and is based in a
story about a young man who died before telling his mother that he was gay; leaving the man s partner
to break the news and to inform the mother about how much he missed seeing her and his fear of
being rejected by her, in the time before his death. The theme of this story is to live life everyday with
no regrets. Throughout the symbols and references you begin to understand the life of Andre. The
white balloon represents letting go and leaving a young man in peace. The silence of his mother shows
that she never accepted his sexual preference. While Hamlet references the struggles of his everyday

He goes, Andre s mother stands alone holding her white balloon. Her lips tremble. She looks on the
verge of breaking down. She looks at it awhile before she gently kisses it and lets go of the balloon... I
believe at that point that Andre s mother forgave her son and was willing to wipe the slate clean by
releasing the white balloon and letting Andre s soul rest in peace. Andre s mother s silence throughout
the play shows that she never accepted her son s sexuality. Even though she wasn t accepting she let
her son rest in peace and let his soul ascend to heaven.
Andre s love of theater and the play Hamlet gave us an insight to his life. At the beginning of the play
Cal expresses Andre s love of theatre. Cal expresses, God, how much he wanted to play Hamlet again.
He would have gone to Timbuktu to have another go at that part. The summer he did in Boston, he
was so happy! (McNally 736). This reference to Hamlet, I believe showcases the struggles Andre went
through. Andre struggled with decision making and avoiding things, as did Hamlet. Hamlet struggled
whether to avenge his father and struggled with the decision that he had been avoiding. This is also
apparent when Cal brings up Andre s great performance saying, You should have come up the summer
he plated Hamlet. He was magnificent (McNally 738). I believe the Hamlet

Essay Thomas Jefferson and Monticello
A person s house can show you a lot about that person. In my own room you would probably find that
I have a big appreciation for books, but don t you wonder what the inventor and third president s
house showed you what he was like? Thomas Jefferson was a very important man; however, there are
many more sides to him than you think. Initially, the Northeast Portico displays Thomas Jefferson s
deep appreciation for Architecture. Jefferson himself got the idea for this wall from James Gibb s
Book of Architecture. He used the book and designed a wall based on one of his designs. The original
blueprint was supposed to be used for an octagonal structure, and Jefferson used it for just one wall.
This shows that Jefferson cares for architecture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, his Mandan Buffalo Robe also shows his understanding of history and the arts. Most painted
robes were used as traditional clothing and articles of trade for Native Americans. Some of these robes
are painted with a scene usually a scene that the person receiving the robe fought in. Meriwether
Lewis and William Clark sent a package to Thomas Jefferson filled with seven buffalo robes one that
had a painted scene. Putting a piece from a famous expedition shows that he is aware that he must
preserve a piece of history so that s other can look back at this piece of history. Thomas Jefferson
understands the History and Arts very much, so his Entry Hall reflects this part of him.
Jefferson s love of people and games are evident in the parlor room. The Parlor Room was filled with
many paintings of important figures and friends of Jefferson s. Benjamin Franklin, George
Washington, and Thomas Jefferson Randolph are just some of the many paintings included in the
parlor. He had used this room as a place to invite friends and colleagues to come over and play games
and have fun. Jefferson included many chairs, in this room to have lots of people over and allow them
to sit down whenever they would like too. The parlor room was often a place for family weddings,
dances, and christenings. A wedding is a cheerful ceremony between two families joining together.
Weddings have families that bring cheer and happiness. An anti social person would

Runway Description Of Runway Lighting
Runway lighting. Runway lighting is composed of several different types of lighting, with specific
colors and positions on the runway, conveying vital information to the pilot during night operations, or
operations during low visibility. Some airports will have Runway End Identifier Lights, which provide
positive identification of the approach end of the runway. These lights are located on each side of the
runway threshold, consist of a pair of synchronized flashing lights, and may be unidirectional facing
the approach area or omnidirectional. Runway Edge Lights are white lights used to mark the edges of
the runway. Used for night or low visibility operations, these lights are classified as high, medium, or
low intensity lights. On instrument runways, amber lights are used on the last half of the runway, or
2,000 feet, whichever is less, with red lights marking the end of the runway. Touchdown Zone Lights
are flush lights that consist of two rows of lights on either side of the runway center line that designate
the desired touchdown area of the runway. Runway Centerline Lights consist of a single row of white
lights, beginning 75 feet from the landing threshold, spaced at 50 foot intervals, and run the length of
the centerline of the runway. Taxiway Turnoff Lights are installed on some precision runways, they
consist of flush lights which emit a steady green color, and designate where taxiways intersect the
runway ( Airport Operations, n.d.). Taxiway lighting. As with

Themes In Snowpiercer
Bong Joon ho s 2013 science fiction film, Snowpiercer, based in a graphic novel of the same name,
offers a look into a frozen future where the last of mankind lives on an evermoving locomotive. It s a
contemporary film focused around the theme of classism in society, driven by metaphors for where we
are and where we are going. With an almost mashup of Orwell meeting the 99%, the story focuses on
the inhabitants of the suppressed population of the train s tail section, led by Chris Evans Curtis,
revolting against the forward living. The film s narrative in relation to its theme is the focal point of
the film and it s main driving force. By using a linear narrative, Joon ho allows the story to move
forward as the characters move towards the front of train. With each decision Curtis makes, the
blocking of his movements is always in a forward motion. He is always looking forward because he
has a definite purpose and only second guesses in a scene (the only scene) where he looks forward and
backward toward two separate outcomes of one decision as the camera follows his head movement in

I hadn t seen Chris Evans outside of his Marvel ventures and was impressed by his ability to make his
heavily flawed character seem charismatic. It s easy to see why the tail sectioners choose to follow
him; he is the the one they deem smart and driven enough to lead them to their journey s end. I can t
tell if it s the way he meant the character to be portrayed and that s just Evan s natural charismatic
nature showing through but it adds a layer to the character that makes his decisions and emotions seem
more concrete. The rest of the cast does a great job of carrying out action beats in relation to the
workings of the class and machinery present in the film s screenplay. I do feel that some other
characters expositions are not layered enough to evoke any emotion and that does take away from the

Detroit Riots Essay
The Detroit riots occurred in the summer of 1967. The riot initially started because of race when poor
African Americans got kicked out of their houses. They started living on 12th street in Detroit. The
riot started there because African Americans were fed up with the way that they were being treated.
Many years prior to the riot there were already racial issues. The government made it hard for African
Americans to buy houses in the 1950s. During that time, white people were resisting African
Americans from moving into Detroit. They were gathering outside of houses owned by African
Americans until they would leave. According to Stanford, I was blissfully unaware of the pervasive
racism and resentment that was simmering in my city (28). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This was showing even more racial issues even in the law enforcement which is supposed to protect
everyone no just people of their nationality. Riots were happening for the same issues in Cleveland,
Chicago, Omaha, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Since all these riots were occurring far away from
Detroit many Detroiters thought that their city would spare the riots. Sadly, they were wrong.
In July 23, 1967, the Detroit Police department busted a bar with a prominent number of African
Americans. They arrested every person in the bar. More and more people started to gather on 12th
street to watch the proceedings. That is when the rioting started. The crowd began to get more violent
as more people joined.
During the riot, the first fire started at a shoe store on 12th. Officers were starting to line up with
shields standing next to each other to block the rioting from spreading any further. There were
authorities having a meeting to try and stop the riot. They were trying to make peace patrols but the
police officers were blocking them from entering the area of the riot. The police officers were still
trying to take control of the situation but their officers were being injured and the rioters started to
outnumber them by a lot. As the police officers were giving up the firefighters were putting out fires.
There were new fires starting as fast as they were being put out.

Practices And Influence Of The Criminal Legal System
Abstract The criminal legal system has an effect on the life of every American, and it is therefore of
vital public interest to facilitate it functioning optimally. This can only be accomplished with a more
comprehensive understanding of this system. Building on the work of Martin and Cohn (2004) and
Wu, Lake and Cao (2015), this study sought to better understand the system through the
administration of a self report survey. This survey measured participant Attitudes Toward the Criminal
Legal System (ATCLS) and Belief in a Just World (BJW), in addition to collecting demographic
information. The sample included 221 participants from Southern California, including 102 males and
119 females. There were limitations, including the use of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Because of this, it is important to measure attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as
understanding of where these attitudes diverge in society could provide an indication of where to
focus efforts towards reform and improvement of the system. It is also important to explore the
relationship between a belief in a just world and attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as the
former had a significant impact on the validation of the latter (Martin Cohn, 2004). In addition,
exploring the relationship between these factors and past criminal behavior is vital to generating a
more detailed and comprehensive view of the issues at hand. To measure attitudes towards the
criminal legal system and legal socialization, Martin and Cohn (2004) proposed the Attitudes Toward
the Criminal Legal System Scale (ATCLS). Across five studies, they sought to validate their scale
through measuring the correlation between the results of several surveys, including the Belief in a Just
World Scale (BJW), and the ATCLS scale. The goal of the first two studies was to establish reliability
and validity for the ATCLS scale, and the goal of the third study was to establish test retest reliability
of the ATCLS scale. The goal of the final two studies was to replicate the results of the prior three
studies with samples not drawn from student populations. These studies indicated that the ATCLS
survey has

The Development And Challenge Of 3d Printing
Title
The Development and Challenge of 3D Printing
Introduction
In recent years 3D printing arouses focus of public with appearing in a huge number of areas. In this
essay, it will describe 3D printing which is one important application of rapid prototyping.
Rapid prototyping (RP) is general for several techniques, which read in data from computer aided
design (CAD) drawings and manufacture automatically three dimensional objects layer by layer
according to the virtual design (Sanna 2008).
3D printing also known as additive manufacturing is any of various processes used to make a three
dimensional object. In 3D printing, additive processes are used in which successive layers of material
are laid down under computer control. These objects can be almost any shape or geometry and are
produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source. A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot.
Due to the limitation of space this essay will introduce the basic principle of just four kinds of main
printers nowadays and their positive application in construction. The essay left will focus on the two
main challenge this technology is facing now and predict the possible development direction.
Basic principle
At the begin of manufacturer,3D printable models ought to be created by a computer aided design
(CAD) package, 3D scanner or via a plain digital camera and photogrammetry software This step is
called Modeling . Following the modeling, the second step is printing . Although the

Paradox And Personification In The Hollow Man
Paradox and personification are two literary devices often used in literature. These literary devices
help poets convey certain meaning through their writing. This essay analyses the poems The Hollow
Men by T.S. Elliot and Death Be Not Proud by John Donne. These two poems were chosen because of
their use of literary devices and the manner in which they were able to communicate a deeper
meaning. The essay analyses the poems by examining their use of paradox and personification as well
how the devices impact the poem.
T.S. Elliot and John Donne use paradox and personification in their poems. A paradox is a statement
that seems to be false but upon further examination proves to be true. Personification is the action
giving a nonhuman object or idea human characteristics. The use of a paradox in the poem The
Hollow Men by T.S. Elliot helps convey the mood of the poem by communicating to the reader a more
profound meaning. The use of literary device in Death Be Not Proud by John Donne also helps
express the mood of the poem. It does so through the use of a literary personification. In poetry,
paradox and personification can be used to convey the mood of a poem.
The poem The Hollow Men by T.S. Elliot uses paradox to convey the mood of the poem. The poem
The Hollow Men is about men who are standing in a field, describing what the afterlife is like. This
state of senselessness that the men are in creates a dull mood. It creates a mood of emotional void.
This mood is conveyed through paradox. In the poem, T.S. Elliot writes shape without form (line 11).
This is used to describe the hollow men and creates a paradox because having a shape means you have
a form, one cannot exist without the other. This is unless, it is thought of from a different point of
view. In art a shape is two dimensional while form is three dimensional. When T.S. Elliot writes shape
without form (line 11) it is not referring to the physical appearance of the men but rather their lack of
depth. It is referring to the men s flat personality. Similarly the line shade without color (line 11) is
used to convey the mood of the poem. This line from the poem creates a paradox because a shade is a
variation of a color, this means that a

Essay on All American Students Must Learn Standard English
All American Students Must Learn Standard English
What are words? A simple question such as this would in theory demand only a simple answer. Words,
however, take such an abundance of forms that creating a truly inclusive definition for the notion of
words is daunting. In its physical manifestation, a word is little more than air passing over taut
tendons, forming sounds which are accented by flicks of the tongue against the teeth and roof of the
mouth. These sounds are arranged in patterns that come to be recognized and accepted as words. But
are these sounds all that words represent? certainly not. Words command power. Although the defiant
playground motto states that sticks and stones may break bones, but words can never hurt, ... Show

According to Geneva Smitherman, in her book Talkin and Testifyin, standard English as we know it
today flourished in the eighteenth century to fill the void left by the decline of Latin (186). African
American Vernacular English, or Ebonics, also formed to meet a specific need. Contrary to popular
belief, Ebonics rose out of 19th Century southern slave culture, not out of repeated use of sloppy
speech. Slaves who were strictly oppressed by their masters were not allowed to peaceably assemble
or meet with each other for any purpose. Such freedom, slave owners feared, could foster coercive
ideas amongst their slaves. Slaves, therefore, needed a language that would allow them to
communicate with each other in a clandestine manner. Ebonics rose to meet this need (Smitherman
19). Using Ebonics, slaves were able to communicate behind their masters backs and form a unity that
was instrumental in the perseverance of African American culture through the unspeakable trials of
slavery.
Almost one hundred and forty years after Abraham Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation ended
slavery, the need which Ebonics originally rose to meet is no longer present. In its place, a new need
has arisen the need for increased social mobility. Statistics show that a cycle of poverty has formed in
which a disadvantaged African American child has little chance in his lifetime of ever advancing
appreciably beyond the social

Teething Pain
Teething is the process by which an infant s teeth sequentially appear by breaking through the gums.
Even through teething is a normal part of infant development, surprisingly little is known about the
causes and management of teething signs and symptoms.Teething pain is the commonest symptom
associated with the eruption of the primary dentition. The eruption of primary teeth usually begins
around 4 8 months of age with the eruption of lower incisors and is complete at around 30 36 months
of age when second primary molars erupt.
Teething pain sometimes referred to as dentitio difficilis is the commonest symptom associated with
the eruption of primary dentition. Adults assume an infant is experiencing pain because they appear
distressed, or because they believe the incisal edges of teeh cut through the alveolar bone and gingival
during eruption. Pain may result from elevation of inflammatory mediators in the crevicular fluid and
in tissue surrounding the erupting teeth, which stimulate nociceptive receptors.Local pain may be
further exacerbated by rubbing or scratching the gingival tissues, by biting in to hard objects or by

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Decriminalization
Decriminalization defined as something that before this was illegal become legal. In the other words,
it is to take out criminal punishments for or evacuate legitimate limitations against. It is the reverse
process from the criminalization. Decriminalization basically is one of the term used to change the
rules or law based on current situations. It is technically a term of remove or reduce the criminal status
or act. People always have confusion on the different between decriminalization and legalisation. The
big different between this two term is legalisation will take out or terminated any law that prohibited
on an act or law while decriminalization will only terminated the criminal charges on the act. In the
decriminalization, although an act has been decriminalized, people still need license or permission on
performing it while legalisation once has been approved, there is no longer law or rules apply on it.

Grete was always regarded as too young and immature to be of help before Gregor s transformation,
probably because Gregor had been the main supporter of the family. Due to Gregor s metamorphosis,
however, Grete was given responsibility of things that the rest of the family didn t want to do, such as
giving Gregor food, and also had to work at a job in order to further support the family. Therefore,
after Gregor s death, the parents finally realise the maturity and responsibility that Grete possesses,
and thinks about how their daughter was blossoming into a well built and beautiful young lady... they
agreed that it would soon be time to find a good man for her (page 44). With a fresh new start and a
daughter who has lots of potential, it is not unclear that the parents are gaining confidence in their new
post Gregor s death life. Being recognised by her parents, Grete has also found confidence and as the
book has, was the first to get up and stretch out her young body when leaving the tram they were on.
With all these positive changes being noticed, I think it is beyond argument that there is hope that is

Failure Of The Failure And Predicting The Mechanical...
Failure criteria s plays very important role in analysing the failure and predicting the mechanical
properties of composite materials. There are many failure criteria s available which has aided in
analysing, few such failure criteria s are maximum stress, maximum strain, Classic laminate theory,
Hashin s failure theory, Tsai Wu failure criterion, and Tsai Hill failure criterion etc.
The research was conducted on failure ways and criteria for their manifestation in composite beams
and columns [37]. They found that the initiations of the different failure modes are influenced by the
material properties, type of loading, and geometric dimensions. They conveyed that the loading type
or condition governs the state of stress all through the composite structure, which controls the locality
and mode of failure. The suitable failure criteria at any point of the structure accounts for the biaxiality
or triaxiality of the state of stress [38]. A four nodded plate element based on a sophisticated higher
order shear deformation theory can be established [39] for the investigation of composite plates. This
plate theory fulfils the requirements of inter laminar shear stress continuity and stress free bottom and
top faces of the plate. Besides, the number of independent unknowns is the same as that in the first
order shear deformation concept.
Prediction of failure in composite materials can be done by implementing failure theories [40 44]. The
failure criteria s are not just for

Proud To Be A Canadian Citizen Essay

My involvement in the band has led me out of my comfort zone, and allowed me to be a strong and

shape for the growing young life of the average teen, standing apart from the crowd and being a

Place And Road
In this essay, three aspects of place and space will be discussed: the desire for place and space; the
corruption of place and space as well as the lack of place and space. Space is the unlimited extend in
an expanse, and a place is a specific part of space. In Kerouac s work On the Road, the writer seeks to
express the desire of American youth of his time for freedom through place and space. Moreover,
Kerouac presents the lack of place and space through the narrator s own dissatisfaction to demonstrate
different emotions. Furthermore, the writer explores place and space through the dynamic of the
relationships between the main characters to portray a sense of hope for the readers. In addition, the
three aspects above will be discussed through a film s interpretation.
Kerouac explores the desire for more place and space through Sal s desire to travel away from his
miserable life, as he states that he often dreamed of going West to see the country , in which the verb
dreamed highlights Sal s revelation for freedom, which indicates his aspiration for the coming
adventures. Moreover, Kerouac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Voter Fraud In Elections
In order to vote, American citizens must meet several requirements, and complete the registration
process. To be eligible to vote, at the very least, one must be a US citizen, meet state residency
requirements, and be at least 18 years old ( Register to Vote, n.d.). Efforts have been made over the
course of American history to make voting a more simple and inclusive process, including the Voting
Rights Act of 1965, and the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (Ash Lamperti, 2013, p. 14).
However, the article Elections 2012: Suppressing Fraud or Suppressing the Vote? by Arlene Ash and

Even in 1996, Rhine s An Analysis of the Impact of Registration Factors on Turnout in 1992
speculated that with each new reform for voter rights, there is in turn the widening possibility for voter
fraud (p. 181). With less strict requirements, more individuals are likely to take advantage of the
system to help further their party or candidate of choice (Rhine, 1996, p.181). The 2000 presidential

situation of fraud, it is estimated that approximately four to six million votes were lost (Ash Lamperti,

Analysis Of Hesiod s The Vase Essay
A) The excerpt from Hesiod s text illustrates different characters who serve a myriad of purposes.
There are 3 main characters in the text Zeus, Hephaestus and Hermes. Zeus orders the creation of the
first woman, Pandora, and commands Olympians to present Pandora with gifts. Hephaestus crafts
Pandora because of Zeus s orders. Hermes provided Pandora with a deceitful nature, (Hesiod) and
delivered her to Epimetheus. There are other characters with minor roles in the text. The most
important character is Zeus, because he was orchestrating the whole event. He assigned tasks to the
Olympians and all the other characters were just following his command.
B) The scene on the vase shows only a part of the woman present on the far right. Additionally, this
woman is wearing a crown. The person who is holding the hammer seems to be moving his arm
towards the woman. The person left of center is facing the man on the far left and it looks like they are
conversing. On the basis of Hesiod s text people depicted on this vase, from right to left, are Pandora,
Hephaestus, Hermes and Zeus. There are numerous attributes that allow the identification of these
characters. Pandora in Hesiod s text is being made using mud, which might answer why only a part of
the woman is shown on the vase. Furthermore, the woman depicted on the vase is wearing a crown
and Hesiod s text mentions crowned her (Pandora) head with spring flowers, (Hesiod) these two
things allow me to identify this woman as

Objectives Of Inventory Management And Management
Objectives of Inventory Management including warehouse management
Inventory management is part of the warehouse management and both of them are part of a bigger
entity which is the supply chain. The objective of supply chain is to minimize annual system wide
costs and maximizing the service level. To reach the goal or objective of supply chain, Inventory and
warehouse management have the following objectives that will help increase return on inventory
(ROI) and return on assets (ROA):
1. Maximizing customer service: Customer service refers to the firm s ability to satisfy the needs of its

Inventory management: Inventory management is the total control of the inventory and lacking this
fundamental understanding can lead to big overstock, or backorders. Inventory management includes:
I. inventory accuracy: Without an automated warehouse management system, it is hard to for a firm to
be fully aware or accurate of the inventory it has on hand. Poor stock visibility can cause excess or
obsolete inventory which causes a problem if there is a demand and product shortage which leads to
unfulfilling or delaying the order of the customer. Also, excess inventory leads to the lack of cash
flow, wasting warehouse space, higher storage cost and poor customer service.
II. inventory location: If the people working in the warehouse do not know where inventory is located,
they put the company at risk. Failing to know where the inventory is, can results in delaying shipments
because it will take the workers time to find the items which results in slowing operations and

Taking a Look at Deforestation
Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make the land available for other uses.
Half of the world s tropical forests have been cleared or degraded. Some people ask why forests are
being cleared. It is typically done to make more land available for other things like housing, cash
crops, oil, and cattle ranching. Most of what everyone does with deforestation is said to be illegal.
Common methods of deforestation are clear cutting and burning trees. The burning method can be
done either quickly or slowly. Quickly for plantation use or more slowly using the slash and burn
technique. The many reasons why farmers and other people do that is to get money to feed there
family or like it was stated early, to make room for growing crops or livestock. Forests are cut down
for many reasons, but most of them are related to people s need to provide for there families or money.
Logging operations, which provide the world s paper and wood products, also cut a number of trees
down each year. Loggers, some of them doing it illegally, also build roads to get to more and more
remote forests, which leads to further deforestation. Not all deforestation is a terrible thing and
intentional. Deforestation comes in handy when in need to build a new oil place. There are a lot of
natural factors that play into deforestation like wildfires and subsequent overgrazing. Most of the
deforestation occurs in the tropics, which is a terrible place because they have poor soil for

Common Misconceptions Of The Health Community
Common misconceptions in the health community revolve around what the body needs versus what
media says the body needs. Are dietary supplements efficient? Are they even necessary? To answer
these questions, one must investigate the three most popular supplements herbal, pill, and gel capsules
in order to determine which type best suits the body s needs.
Although they are one of the most ancient practices of medicine, certain herbal supplements have no
impact on the body while others do. Herbs are a type of plant, but the stem of an herb is not as hardy,
[and does not have a] woody structure which makes herbs easy to consume ( Herbs ). Because herbs
do not have a woody structure they have the capacity to be consumed in various ways. In the past
herbs were consumed as tea, although this practice is still in effect; people prefer consuming herbs via
extractions. One of the most popular methods of extraction is the whole herb method which asserts
that all of a plant s compounds contribute to its ability to heal and protect health [;] this method
ensures that one receives the purest form of the natural herb (Ogden). Purity is a standard that many
companies swear by, and herbal companies are no different. Herb Pham, for example, is a very
popular liquid herbal supplement; liquid forms of any type of remedy are known to be absorbed by the
body quickest, but the companies research shows that many of the types of herbs they sell have little

Harriet Burge s Model
For decades, experts have investigate the role of mycotoxins and how they related to people suffering
negative health effects after occupying a water damaged building. In 1966, the early years of this
investigation, Harriet Burge, a renowned industry leader in fungal contamination, gave a risk

Burge s model examined both the allergic and poisonous characteristics related to mold. During the

extensively enough to produce harmful health effects. In the years that followed, many experts

Nevertheless, despite an almost obvious connection, most researchers believe that occupants who

Dave Gallup, chairperson at EMLab, conducted a study where he created a formula to look at the dose

The Pros And Cons Of Sin In Christianity
Sin is a religious interpretation of the morals of society, claiming immoral things to be a violation of a
higher law; in Christianity s case, God s Law. All religions, since they were first created, have in some
way, discussed sin. Sin is a method of creating the moods and motivations for acting justly in society.
People are encouraged to refrain from doing something because it is a sin. Sin is thought to be
universally understood and believed by all followers of a religion. However, there is debate over
whether sin is truly universal. Sin in Christianity is widely interpreted with many different views on
what is sinful. Within Christianity, acts deemed as sinful vary depending on denominations, societal
standards, and the situation in which it happens.
Across Christianity there is variation about what is considered sinful. Different denominations
interpret and teach the Bible in different ways. One example is homosexuality. Some Christian
denominations consider homosexuality to be a sin while others do not. The Primitive Baptist
denomination, which includes the Westboro Baptist Church, is intensely conservative when it comes
to viewing homosexuality as a sin . The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is one of the more
welcoming Christian denominations to the LGBTQ community, who celebrate same sex marriages, so
therefore do not view homosexuality as a sin . There are many other denominations who fall between
declaring homosexuality as sinful and not. Calvin College,

(Department of Health, DoH, 2015; Public Health England, PHE, 2013), within the first seventy two
hours of an infant s life. This screening consists of a head to toe examination of the infant, including,
but not limited to: the heart; the eyes; and the hips. During the examination, the practitioner will take
the time to promote good health and wellbeing of the infant, by teaching the family how to identify
signs of a well and unwell infant (Someren, 2013). The intention of the examination is to assess
whether the infant has any congenital abnormalities (DoH, 2015; PHE, 2013). The NIPE is a
developmental examination which is replicated between six and eight weeks after the infant s birth, to
screen for congenital disorders that become prominent in their physiology within this time period. ...

Stereotypes In The NBA
Sports can date back to prehistoric times and throughout history sports have continued to advance,
more sports have been created and the rules and regulations have been fined tuned over the years to
better fit our modern perception of them. In America, sports are a huge part of our culture and one of
the very popular sports in America in basketball. Basketball was invented by Dr. James Naismith in
Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891. After 1891, the popularity of basketball has erupted. In the
modern world, basketball has been incorporated into our daily lives. High schools have basketball
teams, there are 347 college division I teams in the NCAA, and there are 30 teams at the professional
level in the NBA, there are 26 teams in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some things they all have in common are more broad, but they still similarities. The goal on offense is
always is to put the ball in the net and on defense the goal is to stop the offense from putting the ball
in the net. But at any level, the common thread is competing. At any level of basketball you will
always see guys competing, working hard, going after loose balls, playing tough defense. These
common principles will be preached at any level. The differences between the high school, college,
and professional level are more physical. In high school there is no shot clock and there are 8 minute
quarters, in college there is a 30 second shot clock and 20 minute halves, and in the NBA, there is a 24
second shot clock and 12 minute quarters. The other differences would be that the offenses are more
advanced the higher level you are, the game is at a much faster pace, the players are faster, quicker,
and stronger, and in the NBA, the players get

Arm Wrestling with My Father
Arm Wrestling with My Father
In this essay written for his freshman composition course, Manning explores his physical contact with
his father over the years, perceiving gradual changes that are, he realizes, inevitable. For Manning,
description provides a way to express his feelings about his father and to comment on relations
between sons and fathers. In the essay after Manning s, Itabari Njeri uses description for similar ends,
but her subject is a daughter and her father.
Now you say when is what he always said before an arm wrestling match. He liked to put the
responsibility on me, knowing that he would always control the outcome. When! I d shout, and it
would start. And I would tense up, concentrating and straining ... Show more content on

My feelings have changed, though. I don t giggle anymore, at least not around my father. And I don t
fell pressured to compete with him the way I thought necessary for years. Now my father is not really
so strong as he used to be and I am getting stronger. This change in strength comes at a time when I
am growing faster mentally than at any time before. I am becoming less my father and more myself.
And as a result, there is less of a need to be set apart from him and his command. I am no longer a
rebel in the household, wanting to stand up against the master with clenched fists and tensing jaws,
trying to impress him with my education or my views on religion. I am no longer a challenger, quick
to correct his verbal mistakes, determined to beat him whenever possible in physical competition. I am
not sure when it was that I began to feel less competitive with my father, but it all became clearer to
me one day this past January. I was home in Virginia for a week between exams, and Dad had stayed
home from work because the house was snowed in deep. It was then that I learned something I never
could have guessed. I don t recall who suggested arm wrestling that day. We hadn t done it for a long
time, for months. But there we were, lying flat on the carpet, face to face, extending our right arms.
Our arms were different. His still resembled a fat tree branch, one which had leveled my wrist to the
ground countless times

How Employee Empowerment Is The Most Important Resource...
Literature Review
Organizations need their employees to feel like they are a part of the family in order for them to
perform well and become an asset to the organization which is related to them feeling empowered. An
employee is the most important resource for any company. How employees are treated and how much
they value the company will have an impact on the overall company s performance. Empowerment
refers to a process in which a manager shares power with a subordinate. The dictionary s definition of
empowerment is to give someone the authority to do something. Employee empowerment is the
process of enabling an employee to think, behave, act, react and control their work in more
autonomous ways as to be in control of one s destiny. Employee empowerment is a motivational
technique that is designed to improve performance if managed properly through increased levels of
employee s participation and self determination (Veccho, 1995). Blanchard et al. (1996) for instance
argued that that empowerment is not only having the freedom to act, but also having higher degree of
responsibility and accountability. It has to deal with creating a working environment where an
employee is allowed to make his own decisions in specific work related situations (Fryer 2012).
According to Herzberg 1968, empowering employees had a link between job enrichment and
employee participation. By empowering employees, leaders and managers have the freedom to
dedicate their time to more important matters

The Advertisement Of The Nike Advertisement Essay
In today s time we come across a vast amount of advertising using various forms such as outdoor
billboards, print advertisements, TV commercials and online advertisements. Advertising is a very
common means of getting customers to see one s message, brand and product. However, it is apparent
that advertising is intentionally deceptive in the sense that it tries to prey on one s weaknesses as a
human being. For example, beer commercials constantly use sex appeal with attractive women to
charm men and perfume commercials use the idea that their product will bring women the love that
they have so long desired. Likewise in the Nike advertisement featuring Serena Williams, the
advertisers use vivid visual elements to convey the idea that Nike products will make the consumer
popular, athletic, beautiful, skilled, talented, hardworking and ultimately successful. This definition of
Nike is achieved through the use of the famous athlete, the words of the ad, her facial expression, her
stance and the background scenery. One effective element in this ad is the genius use of Serena
Williams. The use of her conveys popularity, success, skilled and beauty. She is perhaps the most
famous tennis player amongst men and women. She is one who can actually say ball is life.
Amazingly, Serena has been a professional tennis player since the age of 14. She is currently 33 years
old, which means she has been playing tennis longer than she hasn t been playing. Serena is currently
ranked number 1

Sphere Of Influence Analysis
The Sphere of Influence is located in Rossland, BC, a strong biking community in the West Kootenay.
The sphere was made in 2014 and was first installed in April 2015 by the community local Arts and
Culture Council. It is created using old collected bike wheels, spokes, and gears. The wheels are
pieced together to form a complete bubble, towering as high as the buildings surrounding it. Each
piece of the sculpture is moulded together and has rusted over time. None of the wheels are bent, but
instead fit together, matching the rims to make a sphere. It stands connected to a rusted metal semi
sphere cage that is bolted to a cement platform. There are all different sorts of bike wheels that make
up this sculpture, some are colourful and from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sculpture has a rustic quality, and draws one s eye to it because of its large scale. The art brings a
purpose and beautifies a long time empty property between two local businesses. It resides next to a
sidewalk outside of the local bike shop, brewery, and Laundromat. Next to the Sphere of Influence is a
sign picketed that states Art is for admiring, mountains are for climbing, which mean please do not
climb on the sculpture. This is significant because when I stood admiring the statue a little boy ran up
and started hanging off the wheels and poking his head into the centre of the sphere. Because the artist
used bike wheels as the main medium the Sphere of Influence may influence one to enjoy biking.

other balancing on its pals paws while the bear on the bottom balances on its back with his head off

when knocked on meaning that they are hollow. John Mckinnon uses welded steel and bronze to
create Arco Bears . They both have round bellies, like they ve eaten all of the neighbors

Poison Frogs When attending this lecture I did not know what to expect because I had never been to

informative I actually learned a few things about frogs. When he began talking about complex
phenotypes, phylogenomics, and neurophysiology I got a little lost so, I researched a little bit more
about other things I understood. He first began talking about the bad reputation poison frogs have.
Most brightly colored animals are avoided because of their known defense of poison. Little did I

Sir Robert Borden s Role as Canadian Prime Minister
Our first duty is to win, at any cost! Sir Robert Borden played an important role as Canadian Prime
Minister during World War I, and while he is to be praised, he also to be held accountable for his
actions; especially in the passing of Bills through parliament. Sir Robert Borden had not a great vision
but more so a motto to live up to (to strive for), a country to lead in a worldwide war, and decisions
that if not taken in a certain light, would have disrupted the newly forming peaceful dominion into a
divided house.
Through the study of Dr. Tim Cook s writing, in the Journal of Military and Strategic Studies, Volume
13, Issue3, Spring 2011, it displays Sir Robert Borden as what would be a typical well off successful
Canadian. He had the belief that he was like many Canadians and that his task as the Prime Minister
during World War I was a single minded victory and that the country would damn the costs. He had a
vision that Canada would be known as neither a colony nor disputed territory, but as a single unified
nation without a colonial tie to the Empire. He was a solid Prime Minister for his time, he did what the
majority of people would not, and so he was not exceptional but highly regarded. He went through the
challenges and issues head strong and somehow pulled through, and he transformed soon afterward.
Sir Robert Borden originally was never in politics as his choice of career, but when the Conservatives
called upon him, he was obliged to join. He was very

The Problems Of Long Distance Relationships
Long distance relationships occur because a person is away from his or her significant other for a
length of time. According to Lisa McKay, previously tried solutions for long distance relationships are
Skype dates and good communication. Long distance relationships are a large problem throughout the
United States with a significant failure rate, but the relationships succeed if each person in the
relationship is willing to make the relationship work until the two reunite. In the United States alone,
there are between 14,000,000 and 15,000,000 people in long distance relationships, and 4,500,000 of
those people are not married ( Long Distance Relationship Statistics ). People move away for
numerous reasons; they may want to see new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best way to implement the solution is to maintain a good group of friends. Understanding friends
will offer support instead of always wanting to go out. In order to avoid becoming lonely, it is
important to maintain good relationships. Caring friends will understand if public fraternization costs
too much and will offer to do something fun at home instead. Another step is to video chat a few times
a week to keep in touch. Do not overdo it, because that makes both sides of the relationships bored
with the other. Other simple steps are to find movies to watch on TV and avoid spending unnecessary
money. The progress can be tracked by how well the relationship works. If each side expresses
happiness, then the solution is working; however, if the communication, or the lack of, leads to
unhappiness, then the solution is not working and an intervention is needed. A weakness in the
solution is that there may be long periods of time spent apart. Especially with college students, finding
the time to work and study is already hard enough, but finding the time and the money to travel is a
whole different story. The visits may be more spaced out that originally intended. Another obstacle is
that staying at home instead of going out requires extreme self discipline. When everyone else
entertains themselves at social events,

The Nature Of Comedy In Tartuffe
Analyse the nature of comedy in Molière s Le Tartuffe. In doing this, you might consider the
playwright s objectives, the comedic techniques used and the extent to which this comedy might also
be referred to as serious drama .

Ms. Catherine Burke
Molière s play Le Tartuffe is a neoclassical comedy written in the 17th century. It is a satire in which
Molière s main objective is to expose society s weaknesses and errors in order to improve them. He
satirises the flaws of the french upper middle class, the Bourgeois, in many ways. For example how
they were expected to act a certain way that was considered the norm . He attemps to show us that
deception was common among the upper middle class. Also how some people tried to maintain a
sense of rationalism but just how foolish people could really be. Molière achieves his objectives and
also uses great comedic effects. The comedy makes the play highly enjoyable. The fact it is ... Show

In nearly every scene of the play there is an element of dramatic irony. Dramatic irony is evident in
Madame Pernelle whose opinion of Tartuffe will not be swayed by anyone. Even when her own son
Orgon realises he is an imposter he can not change her opinion no matter what he tells her (Tartuffe,
page 11). This is evident in Act 5, Scene 3. Orgon continually tries to explain to his mother that Orgon
is fooling them. But she refuses to believe on page 126 127 she simply remarks that often something
we see can dissapoint and mean something totally contradictary to what we thought we saw. Mon
Dieu, le plus souvent, l apparence déçoit: Il ne faut pas toujours juger sur ce qu on voit. The audience
and everyone else knows exactly how Tartuffe is betraying the family. Yet she is too stubborn to
believe anyone. This becomes a comedic effect for the audience. The pure stubbornness of this elderly

The Dimensions Of Meaning That The Use Of Photography Brings
The Dimensions of Meaning That the Use of Photography Brings To the Artwork
In addition to the two traditional physical dimensions of an image, every photographic image utilizes
seven dimensions. Four of these dimensions are features of the image itself, and are exposure, tonality,
colour and focus. The remaining three dimensions are subject focused dimensions, and include
constructed and found images, objectivity and complexity. (Ang 2013)
Photography, historically, was initially used to supply knowledge pertaining to sexuality through the
observation of the human body. (Gunkel 2009)

The focus of the image juxtaposes the sharpness of the subject s torso with the blurriness of the
subject s hands, seemingly active in a clapping motion, and the blurriness of the background, adding a
degree of depth to the image, similar to the depth one would experience were they in the presence of
the portrayed subject.
The clapping motion indicated by the subject s hands in the image, exudes a sense of the subject
applauding the viewer, seemingly reversing the roles between observed and observer. (Gunkel 2009)
Roland Barthes in, The Photographic Message, explains that the moments in time photographs are
intended to capture are seemingly a mechanical analogue of reality , a message, if you will. A message
that only becomes discernible after the fact, and it is only then that the importance of the photograph is
embodied. Furthermore, by describing the afore mentioned message it would attach a connoted
message . (Thomas 2010)
Keeping with the afore mentioned notion of the moment in time captured by photographs being
messages, Muholi s Aftermath (2004), Zanele Muholi, Aftermath, (2004) depicts a woman standing
solely in her underwear with a large scar the length of her right thigh. Her hands curled one on top of
the other covering her vagina. (Thomas 2010)
It is apparent that the woman in the image is a victim of trauma. (Van Der Vlies

Essay about What Really Happened During the First...
There can be countless records of the same event, and while many times each record is different, there
are also incidents in which one needs to know every record to piece together what really happened.
The story of the first Thanksgiving takes place in 1621, and is generally known as a meal that was
shared between the Pilgrims and the Indians. For the Pilgrims, this was a harvest festival, much like
one they would have had in England. For the Indians, it was a show of hospitality from the Pilgrims,
similar to what they would expect from visiting another Indian tribe. With being told only that, one
can already see that there are already two very different histories of the same event recorded. Of
greater interest, perhaps, are the different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The History Channel s Desperate Crossing tells the story of the Pilgrims, their journey to Plymouth,
their horrible first year, and finally, the first Thanksgiving. Desperate Crossing follows the accounts of
both Winslow and Bradford fairly well, but begins to deviate slightly. They show that the Pilgrims and
Indians played games, drank, and raced, and competed together, some of which are only vaguely and
briefly alluded to by Winslow, and never by Bradford. The History Channel also shows a much more
tense situation than the impression given from Bradford and Winslow. According to the History
Channel, everything from Massasoit showing up with his ninety some men and the Pilgrims firing
their arms is all a display of strength from both sides.
The History Channel obviously takes some liberties in their presentation of history. Winslow and
Bradford do not mention anything about the clothing worn, if there was any drinking involved, if there
was silverware, where the feasts were held, and many other seemingly trivial details. Desperate
Crossing makes some assumptions on what took place in 1621, but it does quote both Winslow and
Bradford word for word. While we re shown a picture that may or may not actually represent what
took place at the first Thanksgiving, at the very least, we re given Winslow s and Bradford s
descriptions of it. The History Channel used what was already known from the eye witness accounts
combined with what

precedence in comparison to the other kinds. In this regard, the present paper studies four specific
locations in Iran, which are candidates for research centers. Based on the solar radiation and average
wind speed maps, techno economically optimized systems are designed by simulating behavior of
various combinations of renewable energy systems with different sizing, including wind turbine (WT),
photovoltaic (PV), fuel cell (FC), and battery banks. According to the results obtained by a computer
program, it is concluded that the hybrid systems including WT and PV with battery backup are less
costly compared to the other systems. Moreover, we found that among non hybrid systems, in most
regions of Iran s territory PVs are more economical than WTs. Despite of its advantages, FC has not

A Brief Article On Heat Illness
Heat Illness Reflection/Connection to ATR
In this article I have learned many different helpful things. The article states many different heat
illnesses, and how to handle them. Some of these damages can be lethal, and lead to death or some
cases permanent damage. The article states information given by NATA which is the National Athletic
Trainer s Association. The purpose is to provide enough information for best practices for heat illness.
So in the article, it states information about the following: heat syncope, external heat injury, external
heat stroke, heat exhaustion, and exercise associated muscle cramp. So to start off heat syncope occurs

The AT would be responsible because they allowed the athletes to be active in the conditions they
were in. An AT may use a heat index, which is a tool that calculates the air pressure in the air and
calculate the humidity in the air. This tool is helpful for the AT, so they can get accurate calculations,
and decide if it s ok for athletes to be active outside. Now AT s also are responsible of the well being
of athletes when it comes to their daily activity list. If an athlete is super active in one day, and is
being repeatedly exposed to heat, that could result in some heat illnesses depending on the athletes
well being. As an example an athlete is being exposed to the heat four times a day, and has lost a lot of
water. That could cause some heat illnesses, that could have been prevented if the AT were to have
recognized the amount of heat the athlete has been exposed to. There will be a time when an athlete s
core temperature exceeds its max. That is when the AT must take serious action, and they must be able
to handle the situation correctly. If an athlete s core temp reaches over 98 degrees then that is a
problem. The organs in the system will start to shut off, and result could lead to death. Also the
information in this article connects to the basic assignments of a regular AT. For instance the
characteristics of some heat illness, so when the time comes the AT know exactly what to look for. An
example would be to know what to look for if an

Emperor Penguins Essay
The Last March of the Emperor Penguins?
Emperor penguins (Aptenodytes forsteri) in the Antarctic are fascinating flightless birds that are able
to withstand incredibly harsh environments, where wind chills can reach to 76°F. Even though these
penguins are able to survive the freezing temperatures, their breeding success and mortality rates are
based primarily on the sea ice concentration (SIC) and sea ice extent (SIE) throughout the seasons.
Sea ice concentration is a variable for climate scientists and nautical navigators to find the area of sea
ice compared to the total at a given point in the ocean, whereas sea ice extent refers to a region as ice
covered or not ice covered. During the late 1970s, there was an elongated atypical warm period with

Sea ice is a vital breeding and nursing habitat for emperor penguins, where their colonies are formed
far from the open sea. The breeding penguins, would then, go on scavenging trips throughout the
entire development and chick nurturing stages. However, during the period with thick and wide sea ice
cover, the trips become longer. Adult penguins would have to use up more energy for travel, which
will result in lower offspring provisioning and hatching success (Barbraud Weimerskirch, 2001, p.
185). Also, sea ice could influence the emperor penguin by topdown processes . Diminished sea ice
could allow access to hunting areas of the emperor penguin by potential predators, such as killer
whales (Jenouvrier et al., (2012), p. 2759). Consequently, there are no emperor penguin remains found
in killer whale diets. Nevertheless, penguins that have used up so much energy (especially males after
their 4 months fast) are vulnerable to other predators, which could result in a lower survival rate. This
predicament is mainly caused by the change of variables called sea ice concentration and sea ice

  • 3. The Way of the Wind by Amos Oz Essay The Way of the Wind by Amos Oz, is about a man named Shimshon Sheinbaum, and his view of his son, Gideon. Shimshon was a military, political, and social hero amongst his kibbutz. He is a founding father of the Hebrew Labor Movement. People in his kibbutz looked for him for guidance, because this man was in top physical and mental shape devoting all of his life to learning as much as necessary and the remainder to stay in peak shape. As one can imagine, he would expect the same of his son, and he does but his son isn t the same man as his father. His father didn t have someone else make a decision like that for him and he can t make that decision for Gideon. Shimshon, regardless how much he cared for his son, pushed him too far and had too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shimshon, who→ was elated that→ his son chose to be a paratrooper, and was a military hero, pulled some strings and allowed Gideon to enter without his mother s permission. Gideon was not the confident type so it was a shock to everyone that→ he did something as daring as jump out of an airplane, but this transformed Gideon, he became confident and in peak physical shape. Gideon was adored by his kibbutz and one day the paratrooper s did a presentation for the community, Gideon was the last man to jump and the whole kibbutz was aching to watch him in action. Little kids screamed Gideon! Gideon! when he jumped the wind took control and he was pushed into electrical wires. Dangling 30 feet above the air with kids yelling at him and his dad trying to make him come down so he wouldn t get embarrassed Gideon died, his little brother, Azariah climbed the pole and was in his brothers face, mocking him as Gideon died. Shimshon was embarrassed, and disappointed when Gideon died. He hoped that→ Gideon would give him many grandchildren. Now at 75 and his only alive son Azariah who→ was an 8 year old inconvenience, Sheinbaum might never live to see his grandchildren. If Shimshon never pushed Gideon too far and expected so much of him, Gideon would serve his mandatory two years in the military, probably training the entire time and afterwards he would have enjoyed the rest of his life. • 4. Analysis of Andre; S Mother by Terrence Mcnally Essay Analysis of Andre s Mother by Terrence McNally The play, Andre s Mother, by Terrence McNally is a story about accepting death and is based in a story about a young man who died before telling his mother that he was gay; leaving the man s partner to break the news and to inform the mother about how much he missed seeing her and his fear of being rejected by her, in the time before his death. The theme of this story is to live life everyday with no regrets. Throughout the symbols and references you begin to understand the life of Andre. The white balloon represents letting go and leaving a young man in peace. The silence of his mother shows that she never accepted his sexual preference. While Hamlet references the struggles of his everyday ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end of the play Andre s mom with her own conflicts releases the balloon. The play write quotes, He goes, Andre s mother stands alone holding her white balloon. Her lips tremble. She looks on the verge of breaking down. She looks at it awhile before she gently kisses it and lets go of the balloon... I believe at that point that Andre s mother forgave her son and was willing to wipe the slate clean by releasing the white balloon and letting Andre s soul rest in peace. Andre s mother s silence throughout the play shows that she never accepted her son s sexuality. Even though she wasn t accepting she let her son rest in peace and let his soul ascend to heaven. Andre s love of theater and the play Hamlet gave us an insight to his life. At the beginning of the play Cal expresses Andre s love of theatre. Cal expresses, God, how much he wanted to play Hamlet again. He would have gone to Timbuktu to have another go at that part. The summer he did in Boston, he was so happy! (McNally 736). This reference to Hamlet, I believe showcases the struggles Andre went through. Andre struggled with decision making and avoiding things, as did Hamlet. Hamlet struggled whether to avenge his father and struggled with the decision that he had been avoiding. This is also apparent when Cal brings up Andre s great performance saying, You should have come up the summer he plated Hamlet. He was magnificent (McNally 738). I believe the Hamlet ... • 5. Essay Thomas Jefferson and Monticello A person s house can show you a lot about that person. In my own room you would probably find that I have a big appreciation for books, but don t you wonder what the inventor and third president s house showed you what he was like? Thomas Jefferson was a very important man; however, there are many more sides to him than you think. Initially, the Northeast Portico displays Thomas Jefferson s deep appreciation for Architecture. Jefferson himself got the idea for this wall from James Gibb s Book of Architecture. He used the book and designed a wall based on one of his designs. The original blueprint was supposed to be used for an octagonal structure, and Jefferson used it for just one wall. This shows that Jefferson cares for architecture ... Most painted robes were used as traditional clothing and articles of trade for Native Americans. Some of these robes are painted with a scene usually a scene that the person receiving the robe fought in. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark sent a package to Thomas Jefferson filled with seven buffalo robes one that had a painted scene. Putting a piece from a famous expedition shows that he is aware that he must preserve a piece of history so that s other can look back at this piece of history. Thomas Jefferson understands the History and Arts very much, so his Entry Hall reflects this part of him. Jefferson s love of people and games are evident in the parlor room. The Parlor Room was filled with many paintings of important figures and friends of Jefferson s. Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson Randolph are just some of the many paintings included in the parlor. • 6. Runway Description Of Runway Lighting Runway lighting. Runway lighting is composed of several different types of lighting, with specific colors and positions on the runway, conveying vital information to the pilot during night operations, or operations during low visibility. Some airports will have Runway End Identifier Lights, which provide positive identification of the approach end of the runway. These lights are located on each side of the runway threshold, consist of a pair of synchronized flashing lights, and may be unidirectional facing the approach area or omnidirectional. Runway Edge Lights are white lights used to mark the edges of the runway. Used for night or low visibility operations, these lights are classified as high, medium, or low intensity lights. On instrument runways, amber lights are used on the last half of the runway, or 2,000 feet, whichever is less, with red lights marking the end of the runway. Touchdown Zone Lights are flush lights that consist of two rows of lights on either side of the runway center line that designate the desired touchdown area of the runway. • 8. Themes In Snowpiercer Bong Joon ho s 2013 science fiction film, Snowpiercer, based in a graphic novel of the same name, offers a look into a frozen future where the last of mankind lives on an evermoving locomotive. It s a contemporary film focused around the theme of classism in society, driven by metaphors for where we are and where we are going. With an almost mashup of Orwell meeting the 99%, the story focuses on the inhabitants of the suppressed population of the train s tail section, led by Chris Evans Curtis, revolting against the forward living. The film s narrative in relation to its theme is the focal point of the film and it s main driving force. By using a linear narrative, Joon ho allows the story to move forward as the characters move towards the front of train. With each decision Curtis makes, the blocking of his movements is always in a forward motion. He is always looking forward because he has a definite purpose and only second guesses in a scene (the only scene) where he looks forward and backward toward two separate outcomes of one decision as the camera follows his head movement in a left and right ... I can t tell if it s the way he meant the character to be portrayed and that s just Evan s natural charismatic nature showing through but it adds a layer to the character that makes his decisions and emotions seem more concrete. The rest of the cast does a great job of carrying out action beats in relation to the workings of the class and machinery present in the film s screenplay. • 9. Detroit Riots Essay The Detroit riots occurred in the summer of 1967. The riot initially started because of race when poor African Americans got kicked out of their houses. They started living on 12th street in Detroit. The riot started there because African Americans were fed up with the way that they were being treated. Many years prior to the riot there were already racial issues. The government made it hard for African Americans to buy houses in the 1950s. During that time, white people were resisting African Americans from moving into Detroit. They were gathering outside of houses owned by African Americans until they would leave. According to Stanford, I was blissfully unaware of the pervasive racism and resentment that was simmering in my city (28). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was showing even more racial issues even in the law enforcement which is supposed to protect everyone no just people of their nationality. Riots were happening for the same issues in Cleveland, Chicago, Omaha, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Since all these riots were occurring far away from Detroit many Detroiters thought that their city would spare the riots. Sadly, they were wrong. In July 23, 1967, the Detroit Police department busted a bar with a prominent number of African Americans. They arrested every person in the bar. More and more people started to gather on 12th street to watch the proceedings. That is when the rioting started. The crowd began to get more violent as more people joined. During the riot, the first fire started at a shoe store on 12th. Officers were starting to line up with shields standing next to each other to block the rioting from spreading any further. There were authorities having a meeting to try and stop the riot. They were trying to make peace patrols but the police officers were blocking them from entering the area of the riot. The police officers were still trying to take control of the situation but their officers were being injured and the rioters started to outnumber them by a lot. Practices And Influence Of The Criminal Legal System Abstract The criminal legal system has an effect on the life of every American, and it is therefore of vital public interest to facilitate it functioning optimally. This can only be accomplished with a more comprehensive understanding of this system. Building on the work of Martin and Cohn (2004) and Wu, Lake and Cao (2015), this study sought to better understand the system through the administration of a self report survey. This survey measured participant Attitudes Toward the Criminal Legal System (ATCLS) and Belief in a Just World (BJW), in addition to collecting demographic information. The sample included 221 participants from Southern California, including 102 males and 119 females. There were limitations, including the use of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this, it is important to measure attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as understanding of where these attitudes diverge in society could provide an indication of where to focus efforts towards reform and improvement of the system. It is also important to explore the relationship between a belief in a just world and attitudes towards the criminal legal system, as the former had a significant impact on the validation of the latter (Martin Cohn, 2004). In addition, exploring the relationship between these factors and past criminal behavior is vital to generating a more detailed and comprehensive view of the issues at hand. To measure attitudes towards the criminal legal system and legal socialization, Martin and Cohn (2004) proposed the Attitudes Toward the Criminal Legal System Scale (ATCLS). Across five studies, they sought to validate their scale through measuring the correlation between the results of several surveys, including the Belief in a Just World Scale (BJW), and the ATCLS scale. The goal of the first two studies was to establish reliability and validity for the ATCLS scale, and the goal of the third study was to establish test retest reliability of the ATCLS scale. The goal of the final two studies was to replicate the results of the prior three studies with samples not drawn from student populations. These studies indicated that the ATCLS survey has ... Rapid prototyping (RP) is general for several techniques, which read in data from computer aided design (CAD) drawings and manufacture automatically three dimensional objects layer by layer according to the virtual design (Sanna 2008). 3D printing also known as additive manufacturing is any of various processes used to make a three dimensional object. In 3D printing, additive processes are used in which successive layers of material are laid down under computer control. These objects can be almost any shape or geometry and are produced from a 3D model or other electronic data source. A 3D printer is a type of industrial robot. Due to the limitation of space this essay will introduce the basic principle of just four kinds of main printers nowadays and their positive application in construction. The essay left will focus on the two main challenge this technology is facing now and predict the possible development direction. Basic principle At the begin of manufacturer,3D printable models ought to be created by a computer aided design (CAD) package, 3D scanner or via a plain digital camera and photogrammetry software This step is called Modeling . Following the modeling, the second step is printing . Although the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Paradox And Personification In The Hollow Man Paradox and personification are two literary devices often used in literature. These literary devices help poets convey certain meaning through their writing. This essay analyses the poems The Hollow Men by T.S. Elliot and Death Be Not Proud by John Donne. These two poems were chosen because of their use of literary devices and the manner in which they were able to communicate a deeper meaning. The essay analyses the poems by examining their use of paradox and personification as well how the devices impact the poem. T.S. Elliot and John Donne use paradox and personification in their poems. A paradox is a statement that seems to be false but upon further examination proves to be true. Personification is the action giving a nonhuman object or idea human characteristics. The use of a paradox in the poem The Hollow Men by T.S. Elliot helps convey the mood of the poem by communicating to the reader a more profound meaning. The use of literary device in Death Be Not Proud by John Donne also helps express the mood of the poem. It does so through the use of a literary personification. In poetry, paradox and personification can be used to convey the mood of a poem. The poem The Hollow Men by T.S. Elliot uses paradox to convey the mood of the poem. The poem The Hollow Men is about men who are standing in a field, describing what the afterlife is like. This state of senselessness that the men are in creates a dull mood. It creates a mood of emotional void. This mood is conveyed through paradox. In the poem, T.S. Elliot writes shape without form (line 11). This is used to describe the hollow men and creates a paradox because having a shape means you have a form, one cannot exist without the other. This is unless, it is thought of from a different point of view. In art a shape is two dimensional while form is three dimensional. When T.S. Elliot writes shape without form (line 11) it is not referring to the physical appearance of the men but rather their lack of depth. It is referring to the men s flat personality. Similarly the line shade without color (line 11) is used to convey the mood of the poem. This line from the poem creates a paradox because a shade is a variation of a color, this means that a ... A simple question such as this would in theory demand only a simple answer. Words, however, take such an abundance of forms that creating a truly inclusive definition for the notion of words is daunting. In its physical manifestation, a word is little more than air passing over taut tendons, forming sounds which are accented by flicks of the tongue against the teeth and roof of the mouth. These sounds are arranged in patterns that come to be recognized and accepted as words. But are these sounds all that words represent? certainly not. Words command power. According to Geneva Smitherman, in her book Talkin and Testifyin, standard English as we know it today flourished in the eighteenth century to fill the void left by the decline of Latin (186). African American Vernacular English, or Ebonics, also formed to meet a specific need. Contrary to popular belief, Ebonics rose out of 19th Century southern slave culture, not out of repeated use of sloppy speech. Slaves who were strictly oppressed by their masters were not allowed to peaceably assemble or meet with each other for any purpose. Such freedom, slave owners feared, could foster coercive ideas amongst their slaves. Slaves, therefore, needed a language that would allow them to communicate with each other in a clandestine manner. Ebonics rose to meet this need (Smitherman 19). Using Ebonics, slaves were able to communicate behind their masters backs and form a unity that was instrumental in the perseverance of African American culture through the unspeakable trials of slavery. Almost one hundred and forty years after Abraham Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation ended slavery, the need which Ebonics originally rose to meet is no longer present. In its place, a new need has arisen the need for increased social mobility. Statistics show that a cycle of poverty has formed in which a disadvantaged African American child has little chance in his lifetime of ever advancing appreciably beyond the social ... There are many failure criteria s available which has aided in analysing, few such failure criteria s are maximum stress, maximum strain, Classic laminate theory, Hashin s failure theory, Tsai Wu failure criterion, and Tsai Hill failure criterion etc. The research was conducted on failure ways and criteria for their manifestation in composite beams and columns [37]. They found that the initiations of the different failure modes are influenced by the material properties, type of loading, and geometric dimensions. They conveyed that the loading type or condition governs the state of stress all through the composite structure, which controls the locality and mode of failure. The suitable failure criteria at any point of the structure accounts for the biaxiality or triaxiality of the state of stress [38]. Autobots and Decepticons are forms of Transformers that have been fighting for years. Scenes from the movie are spectacular. Certain scenes from the movie are very great such as when Optimus fights the T Rex, when Cade Yeager finds Optimus Prime and gets his house raided by Special Agent Savoy, and when the Autobots ended the battle with the Decepticons. Autobots are normally the good transformers and Decepticons are usually the bad guys. From the time Cade Yeager finds Optimus Prime, Cade knew Optimus was a transformer. At the time the U.S government had award money for anyone who spotted or found a transformer. The government was giving award because the Transformers had previously started a war on U.S soil and the government now wanted them gone. So Cade insisted to his friend Lucas to not tell anyone about Optimus being hidden in his warehouse. So the next couple days past and Optimus and Cade grew to kind of know each other. As Cade s daughter was just getting home, a swarm of police vehicles and helicopters emerged on to Cade Yeager s property. Half of the world s tropical forests have been cleared or degraded. Some people ask why forests are being cleared. It is typically done to make more land available for other things like housing, cash crops, oil, and cattle ranching. Most of what everyone does with deforestation is said to be illegal. Common methods of deforestation are clear cutting and burning trees. The burning method can be done either quickly or slowly. Quickly for plantation use or more slowly using the slash and burn technique. The many reasons why farmers and other people do that is to get money to feed there family or like it was stated early, to make room for growing crops or livestock. Forests are cut down for many reasons, but most of them are related to people s need to provide for there families or money. Logging operations, which provide the world s paper and wood products, also cut a number of trees down each year. Loggers, some of them doing it illegally, also build roads to get to more and more remote forests, which leads to further deforestation. Not all deforestation is a terrible thing and intentional. Are dietary supplements efficient? Are they even necessary? To answer these questions, one must investigate the three most popular supplements herbal, pill, and gel capsules in order to determine which type best suits the body s needs. Although they are one of the most ancient practices of medicine, certain herbal supplements have no impact on the body while others do. Herbs are a type of plant, but the stem of an herb is not as hardy, [and does not have a] woody structure which makes herbs easy to consume ( Herbs ). People are encouraged to refrain from doing something because it is a sin. Sin is thought to be universally understood and believed by all followers of a religion. However, there is debate over whether sin is truly universal. Sin in Christianity is widely interpreted with many different views on what is sinful. Within Christianity, acts deemed as sinful vary depending on denominations, societal standards, and the situation in which it happens. Across Christianity there is variation about what is considered sinful. Different denominations interpret and teach the Bible in different ways. One example is homosexuality. Some Christian denominations consider homosexuality to be a sin while others do not. Employee empowerment is the process of enabling an employee to think, behave, act, react and control their work in more autonomous ways as to be in control of one s destiny. Employee empowerment is a motivational technique that is designed to improve performance if managed properly through increased levels of employee s participation and self determination (Veccho, 1995). Blanchard et al. (1996) for instance argued that that empowerment is not only having the freedom to act, but also having higher degree of responsibility and accountability. It has to deal with creating a working environment where an employee is allowed to make his own decisions in specific work related situations (Fryer 2012). The Advertisement Of The Nike Advertisement Essay In today s time we come across a vast amount of advertising using various forms such as outdoor billboards, print advertisements, TV commercials and online advertisements. Advertising is a very common means of getting customers to see one s message, brand and product. However, it is apparent that advertising is intentionally deceptive in the sense that it tries to prey on one s weaknesses as a human being. For example, beer commercials constantly use sex appeal with attractive women to charm men and perfume commercials use the idea that their product will bring women the love that they have so long desired. Likewise in the Nike advertisement featuring Serena Williams, the advertisers use vivid visual elements to convey the idea that Nike products will make the consumer popular, athletic, beautiful, skilled, talented, hardworking and ultimately successful. This definition of Nike is achieved through the use of the famous athlete, the words of the ad, her facial expression, her stance and the background scenery. One effective element in this ad is the genius use of Serena Williams. The use of her conveys popularity, success, skilled and beauty. She is perhaps the most famous tennis player amongst men and women. She is one who can actually say ball is life. Amazingly, Serena has been a professional tennis player since the age of 14. So to start off heat syncope occurs when a person is standing in heat for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The AT would be responsible because they allowed the athletes to be active in the conditions they were in. An AT may use a heat index, which is a tool that calculates the air pressure in the air and calculate the humidity in the air. This tool is helpful for the AT, so they can get accurate calculations, and decide if it s ok for athletes to be active outside. Now AT s also are responsible of the well being of athletes when it comes to their daily activity list. If an athlete is super active in one day, and is being repeatedly exposed to heat, that could result in some heat illnesses depending on the athletes well being. As an example an athlete is being exposed to the heat four times a day, and has lost a lot of water. That could cause some heat illnesses, that could have been prevented if the AT were to have recognized the amount of heat the athlete has been exposed to. There will be a time when an athlete s core temperature exceeds its max. That is when the AT must take serious action, and they must be able to handle the situation correctly. If an athlete s core temp reaches over 98 degrees then that is a problem. The organs in the system will start to shut off, and result could lead to death. Also the information in this article connects to the basic assignments of a regular AT. For instance the characteristics of some heat illness, so when the time comes the AT know exactly what to look for. An example would be to know what to look for if an ... • 53. Emperor Penguins Essay The Last March of the Emperor Penguins? Emperor penguins (Aptenodytes forsteri) in the Antarctic are fascinating flightless birds that are able to withstand incredibly harsh environments, where wind chills can reach to 76°F. Even though these penguins are able to survive the freezing temperatures, their breeding success and mortality rates are based primarily on the sea ice concentration (SIC) and sea ice extent (SIE) throughout the seasons. Sea ice concentration is a variable for climate scientists and nautical navigators to find the area of sea ice compared to the total at a given point in the ocean, whereas sea ice extent refers to a region as ice covered or not ice covered. During the late 1970s, there was an elongated atypical warm period with reduced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sea ice is a vital breeding and nursing habitat for emperor penguins, where their colonies are formed far from the open sea. The breeding penguins, would then, go on scavenging trips throughout the entire development and chick nurturing stages. However, during the period with thick and wide sea ice cover, the trips become longer. Adult penguins would have to use up more energy for travel, which will result in lower offspring provisioning and hatching success (Barbraud Weimerskirch, 2001, p. 185). Also, sea ice could influence the emperor penguin by topdown processes . Diminished sea ice could allow access to hunting areas of the emperor penguin by potential predators, such as killer whales (Jenouvrier et al., (2012), p. 2759). Consequently, there are no emperor penguin remains found in killer whale diets. Nevertheless, penguins that have used up so much energy (especially males after their 4 months fast) are vulnerable to other predators, which could result in a lower survival rate. This predicament is mainly caused by the change of variables called sea ice concentration and sea ice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
