Personal Narrative About Yosemite
When my dad first talked to me about Yosemite, he described it as the most epic place on earth. I
thought it would be pretty, but I never predicted how unreal it would actually be. My experience there
was one I can never fully put into words. It was liberating, refreshing, and calming. I felt like a light
inside of me had been lit again. When I was staring out at the valley, all my problems seemed to drift
away. Standing at the top of Glacier Point, I take in a panoramic view of my surroundings. Huge
bundles of tourists walk around, taking photos and gasping at the breathtaking view. I stand with my
sister, 25 lb backpacking backpacks sit heavily like a bag of rocks on our backs as we chew our green
apple sour gum. My dad leads us down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As we get closer to the floor of the valley, I get a better look at illilouette falls. The falls shoot out of
the granite rock and swim down into a small lake. We stop here and dip our feet in the cold, but
refreshing, water. I sit down on the side of the lake and splash a bit. I also take the time to chew on a
piece of spicy jerky and crunchy apple. The food recharges my body, and I feel energy flood my body.
Once back on the trail, I drag myself up a set of switchbacks going up the steep rock face. The sun is
beating down at this point, and I wipe the sweat beading up on my forehead. I feel as if I have been
walking forever on the rocky path, small bushes, and plants around me when we finally reach the top.
The wind blows around me like a tornado, helping me. As we start the descend down, it feels as if it
takes forever until we reach the Nevada Falls. They are loud and powerful and tumble down until it
becomes a stream with huge rocks poking out. Around the stream are green trees and lots of plants. At
the top of the falls, there is a footbridge which you are able to cross. I myself cross it, peering at the
falls, intrigued by how turbulent it is. Although the falls are fast and tremendous, they have a calming
effect on

Chapter 16 Externalities
Consumers and producers are internal to a transaction. Consumers receive a benefit from the goods
they purchase, while producers pay the costs of production. An externality (sometimes called a
spillover) is a cost or benefit that goes to someone external to a transaction. Pollution is a negative
(cost) externality. Education and research create a positive externality. Externalities can result from
consumption or production.
2
An Example:
Suppose that the costs of raising livestock are mostly borne by the rancher, but there is a spillover
cost. Streams nearby get polluted, and this affects people (and other species) who use the stream as
well as spinach farmers who also use the water for irrigation. ... Show more content on

Consider the case of stream pollution by livestock
Suppose the cost of preventing stream pollution is lower than the cost to spinach producers and other
users of the stream. If spinach farmers have the right to clean water, then ranchers will not be willing
to pay spinach farmers enough, and will be forced to prevent the pollution. If ranchers have the right
to pollute the water, then spinach farmers would be willing to pay them enough to prevent it. Either
way, the stream will not be polluted, and this is the most efficient outcome.
14
Suppose that costs are too high
Suppose the cost of preventing stream pollution is higher than the cost to spinach producers and other
users of the stream. If spinach farmers have the right to clean water, then ranchers will be willing to
pay spinach farmers enough to allow pollution of the stream. If ranchers have the right to pollute the
water, then spinach farmers would not be willing to pay them enough to prevent it. Either way, the
stream will be polluted, and this is the most efficient outcome.

15
What Can Possibly Go Wrong?
Perhaps nobody owns a clear right to the stream. Sometimes clear rights are impossible to assign. In
some countries it is due to a flawed legal system. The property right may be unenforceable. The
externality may affect those unable to organize or negotiate in their interests. Transaction costs may be

Peter Singer Essay
Peter Singer, an Australian philosopher and professor at Princeton University asks his students the
simple question of whether they would save a drowning child from a pond, while wearing they re bran
new pair of expensive shoes. The response was aggressive and passive How could anyone consider a
pair of shoes, or missing an hour or two at work, a good reason for not saving a child s life? ¹ Singer
continued to argue that according to UNICEF, nearly 10 million children under five years old die each
year from causes related to poverty. ² Is not saving a child drowning in a pond right in front of you the
same thing as a child half way across the world dying in poverty? Peter Singer s response would be a

We each have a right to buy anything we would like with our own money. Whether that right is a good
decision how ever is something we must stop and question. You may have a right to spend your
weekend surfing, but it can still be true that you ought to visit your sick mother. Someone with all the
money in the world could buy a new car every day, throw lavish parties, go on vacation once a month
on a new jet plane and even throw tons of money into a lake, they have the right to do so with they re
money! How ever coud this incredibly rich person choose to do other things with their money? To
choose to do these things rather than use the money to save human lives is wrong. ⁵ Singer insist that
we should use our money wisely. In Singer s last argument he states a blunt and simple responce to
Lucy s opinion on giving. My aim is to convince you, the individual reader that you can and should be
doing a lot more to help the poor. By having the right to controle your own money and because we
were fortunate enough to live in such great economical conditions, we should work harder to help
others that will never have the same chances. Lucy from Glennview High and Peter Singer make
strong points on each side of the fence. I am all for Lucy s opinion in the sense that if a person works
hard in life to earn their money, they have the right to spend it on themselves. I for one go to school

Main body system
Cardiovascular system The cardiovascular system has three main functions:
 Transport Transportation of oxygen, nutrients and hormones to cells and removal of metabolic
wastes such as carbon dioxide, heat and nitrogenous wastes.
 Regulation Of body temperature, fluid pH and water content of cells
 Protection By white blood cells, antibodies and complement proteins that circulate in blood and
defend again foreign microbes and toxins. Also white blood cells clot when body is injured.

The amino acids that are not immediately required are broken down in the liver to make urea; this urea
is carried in the bloodstream to the kidneys for elimination of waste.
The functions of the renal system, which are performed by the kidneys, are to regulate and maintain
the balance of electrolytes and the pH of the fluid that has been processed. It assists in the production
of new red blood cells and it also involved in the maintenance of blood pressure.
Kidneys, ureters and bladder are associated with renal system.
The main functions of the kidney in order of importance are: Blood pressure control salt and water
balance erythropoietin (a hormone) production vitamin D metabolism
The function of ureters is to enter the urinary bladder at an angle to help prevent any back flow
(reflux) of urine back into the ureter. The ureter connects the kidney to the urinary bladder and urine is
drained from the kidney and stored in the bladder it s a passage through which urine passes from
kidneys to the urinary bladder.
The function of bladder is to hold urine the bladder is a sort of pouch found in the end of the genito
urinarian tract. Its function is to retain the urine of the body until it can be released to the urethra and
out of the body.

Collective independence.
Individual and community are two words whose meanings contrast each other. An individual is one
who is not reliant on others and exists as its own entity. A community however, is a group of
individuals, whose efforts are combined and improved with help from others, therefore becoming
reliant on each other. Both Rebekah Nathan and Kwame Anthony Appiah speak a great deal on what
makes or breaks a community, what brings individuals together and what separates them. I argue that
communities are successful when individuals are made to feel like their identity is maintained, and
their voice carries weight.

Point Of View In Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow...
A story s point of view helps the reader get the writer s perspective. As such, one can determine the
truth about a character thus affecting their response to the character. It also influences the reader s
response based on what the narrator knows or their objective. In Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The
Yellow Wallpaper the point of view is in the first person. The narrator participates in the action of the
story. In A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, the writer uses the third person point of view and lets
the reader know how the character feel. As such, one learns about the characters through an outside
voice. As such, the narrative of any story is a crucial asset to help the reader get the point, theme, or
message of the material.

The viewpoint of this story is meant to create sympathy for Miss Emily regarding her obsession with
Homer, without condemning her.
The Yellow Wallpaper can also be tied to this theory since it spins an exciting tale of how a wife of a
doctor becomes guilt ridden with depressed after the birth of her child. As a result, her physician
husband decides to place her under homecare to help cure her of her disease (3). However, this only
serves to intensify her illness and put a damper on her marriage. The first person point of view in this
story helps one to catch a vision of what a suffering woman must endure. The first narrative also
influences the reader to be able to connect to the narrator in a humane way.
Further, the first person standpoint in this story provides the reader access only to the woman s
thoughts thus limiting the reader. However, the limited point of view in this story helps is crucial in
letting the reader get into the shoes of the wife and experience the feeling of isolation throughout the
story. The limitation of the viewpoint also involves narrating the story in the present, which prohibits
the main character from the benefit of hindsight

believed in me that I can accomplish what I came to study for. After two long weeks of lectures, and
final exams I received a certificate of completion from class. Now that I overcame the class room it

Tornado Recovery Summary
This summary will cover the lessons learned and any suggestions necessary concerning the following
disaster. On May 22, 2011 a tornado spawned east of the Missouri Kansas state line from a massive
supercell thunderstorm that quickly escalated into an EF 5 monster. This monster tornado tore a half
mile to three quarter mile wide path of total destruction through Joplin, Missouri claiming 161 lives
(Smith Sutter, 2013). The response by the local and state government was immediate bringing in a
combination of public and private sector efforts. Joplin is one of the few disasters that displayed how
recovery efforts should be executed. Public sectors after the disaster focused mainly on clearing debris
and bringing the community back into normalcy, while the private sector ... Show more content on

One key factor that helped in the timely recovery of Joplin was the massive volunteer sector efforts.
There were more than 92,000 registered volunteers that came from the United States and as far away
as Japan to help restore the community (Smith Sutter, 2013). To house all of these volunteers FEMA
provided temporary housing units for the volunteers and displaced victims. Immediately after the
tornado, the American Red Cross set up shelters for the displaced victims and within two weeks of the
disaster they also had a long term recovery committee functioning. Along with the tremendous
response from public, private, and volunteer sectors the social media network contributed a huge role
in coordinating relief. Most notably the local churches of St. Paul and College Heights utilized
Facebook to contact churches outside of Joplin bringing in faith based organizations from all over the
United States (Smith Sutter, 2013). The most fascinating aspect of Joplin s recovery was the
autonomous nature that the private and public sectors were able to perform under. This can be

Antagonism In The Things They Carried
The Allegorical Portrayal of Vietnam as the Antagonist in The Things They Carried
War stories old and modern alike are often characterized by morality. Embellished with sensory detail
and loaded with emotion, they appeal to a higher moral purpose that concludes with an uplifting
message, effectively restoring one s faith in humanity and the glimmer hope that accompanies the
grim reality of war. However, in The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien argues the exact opposite. He
warns of stories seeming moral, asserting that true war stories contain no rectitude whatsoever...no
virtue (65). In this way, he defies the traditional war story in favor of creating a non linear timeline
with an overarching theme, a theme that displays no clear morals but rather uncompromising
allegiance to obscenity and evil (66). Although this extreme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Given that post modernism involves an experimental style and a narrative that progresses in different
and contrasting directions, (Bradbury 765) it can be argued that The Things They Carried is a work of
metafiction, which concentrates on story telling and its higher purpose rather than being weighted
down by what is considered to be reality. The epistemological ambivalence regarding the antagonist
especially leads one to note the importance of the deliberate choice made by Tim O Brien to create
this allegorical adversary as opposed to a more tangible villain typical of a war story (43). Had he
chosen to portray the villain as the man he had killed, or Vietnam s army as a whole, his desired effect
to declare a larger anti war message would not have relayed the same powerful impact to his audience.
By representing the war itself through the landscape of Vietnam, O Brien personifies the war through
nature s all consuming course in order to show how war corrupts and consumes, that it stops for no

Similarities Between Ancient Greece And China Essay
1. Using three civilizations as examples, describe the concept of the Axial Age The concept of axial
age was introduced into the sphere of philosophical knowledge by German existentialist philosopher
Karl Jaspers for characterizing the period of ancient history during about the 8th to the 3rd century
BC. In this period of time we have developed a fundamentally new religious beliefs and doctrines that
promoted human and cultural values of the era. Jaspers described the Axial Age as an interregnum
between two ages of great empire, a pause for liberty, a deep breath bringing the most lucid
consciousness. Jaspers argued that during the Axial Age, the spiritual foundations of humanity were
laid simultaneously and independently in China, India, Persia, Judea and Greece. And these are the
foundations upon which humanity still subsists today. Consider, for example Greece, India and China.
Ancient Greece up to the 6th century BC was on a par with other civilizations by the level of spiritual
development. Hellenic culture range was one of those, whose coordinate system covers the problems
of family, God, nature and Eros. As a general rule, the mentality of this culture consisted the two
vectors Apollonian and Dionysian. Dionysian beginning was aimed at the satisfaction of the
instinctual needs, as opposed to the Apollonian, whose essence consisted of creative and scientific
elements. The widespread fall of the monarchy and the actualization role of the nation brought

Bomb Calorimeter Essay
Bomb calorimeter The Usages Introduction:
Like other calorimeters, the bomb calorimeter is used to measure the amount of heat that is released
by an exothermic reaction. The term bomb refers to its usage of a sealed container that contains an
even smaller container within that can endure high pressures. Inside the smaller container which is
surrounded by water, the reaction takes place.
The main difference between a bomb calorimeter and all the other types of calorimeter is that the
change in enthalpy (ΔH) isn t being measured. Instead, the change in internal energy(ΔU) is measured.
q reaction = (q water + q bomb)
A bomb calorimeter is made up of:
the bomb to contain the reaction
the water bath
stirrer

Morgan s Stand Below the Goldsboro Road
Morgan s Stand Below the Goldsboro Road
Morgan s famous heroic stand below Goldsboro Road would begin on March 18th. His division
(Second), Fourteenth Army Corps, took the advance for the Left Wing at 5:30 A.M. on Saturday the
eighteenth (Hughes Jr., 17). After Morgan helped federal foragers in his division fight off small rebel
forces near Bushy Swamp, Sherman ordered him to hold his division where it was. In the early
morning of March 19th, Morgan s men would advance along with Sherman and WilliamCarlin s men.
They would soon be told to hold position again as Carlin went to engage against Confederates. It
wouldn t be until the afternoon at three o clock that Morgan would soon have to help Carlin and
Slocum against the Confederates, due to Carlin s inability to stop them in the skirmishes. After
Mitchell had placed his men into the appropriate area, Morgan s unit would march in. He would send
one of his men to send a message to generals in the battle. First he sent a message to Davis requesting
that Vandever s brigade (backed with the wagons at the rear of the corps) be rushed to him (Hughes Jr,
98). Morgan also sent one to Benjamin Fearing to ask if he could help General Mitchell by being at
his right while having some of his men attack to help stiffen Vernon s skirmish line (Hughes Jr., 98).
Also seeing that there were no enemy troops on the right side near Goldsboro road, Morgan ordered

whole system on a regular basis, rather than just trying to fix certain problems. It is also using the
conceptual framework and tools of systems thinking to clarify the full patterns and to understand how
to effect the most change.
Senge s five components of a learning organization all work together. Personal mastery, shared vision,
team learning, and mental models lay the groundwork for the organization. And systems thinking is
the glue that makes it together. In order for the learning organization to work, each of the five
disciplines must be developed at the same time and incorporated with one another.
Applying Senge s model to the typical corporate mission of increasing shareholder value is perceptive.
The Fifth Discipline calls this vision limited, since it does not consider what leads up to the increase in
shareholder value. The typical corporate mission limits the organization s thinking to only one part of
a problem. As an example, Senge states

Employee Rights
Abstract The issue of employers and employees rights has always brought controversy in most
companies. Some rights are expressly known like the right of employees to get paid after working for
the agreed period of time among others. However, there are those things done by the employers that
most employees feel are too private. Employees feel that some things done by the employers are an
intrusion to their privacy. This paper will discuss issues on whether the employer has a right to review
the employees email. It will look at both the employers and the employees perspective and what the
law says about the issue. Introduction Employees and employers have reciprocated obligations
towards each other. These duties are usually expressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The law supports the claim that employees have a right to access employees emails, although most
employees are of the opinion that their employers should not access their emails. The courts have not
found any reasonable expectation for the employees to have privacy in the same and therefore, they
have always granted permission to the employers to keep an eye on the employees activities as well as
reviewing it. In a case of Smith v. Pillsbury Co., the plaintiff had sued the employer on the ground that
he had wrongfully discharged him after the employer intercepted an email message he considered
inappropriate (Jennings, 2005). Smith being an at will kind of employee, his suit centered on whether
by being discharged, it went against Pennsylvania s public policy thereby falling into the exemption
under the general rule which indicate that employees who are employed on the at will basis can have
their employment terminated any time. The defendant was given motion from dismissal of the case
since it failed to state a claim. The employer was therefore found not guilty of either invading the
employees privacy or violating public policy when he terminated smith (Wolkinson Block, 1996). The
employer had created email communication system but had told the employees that it was privileged
and confidential. The employer also informed the workforce that their emails would not be intercepted

Turnaround at Southwest Airlines
Introduction
Southwest Airlines is one of the largest domestic carriers in the United States, with over 3400 flights
every day from 64 domestic destinations. Since 2011, Southwest Airlines is the airline that carries the
most domestic passengers of any US airline ( Scheduled passengers carried , 2011). The major factor
that contributes to the success of Southwest Airlines and makes it different from the other airlines is its
approach in designing and managing the processes.
Measuring capacity and utilization at Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines uses the unified system to measure its capacity. The measure for capacity of an
airline is the available seat mile (ASM), which refers to the number of seats in an airplane, multiplied

The turn around time can be prolonged due to weather delays, security delays or technical difficulties.
The weather is a factor that the airline cannot control, but the delay can be predicted and prevented
with alternative flight plans. Southwest airlines can experience security delays like any other airlines
and the company has little influence on this factor. On the other hand, the technical problems can be
divided on the ones that can be controlled by the company, and on technical delays caused by the
national aviation system. The company can work on prevention of the technical types of delays with
different technological improvements and employee trainings. The objective for the company is to
have the capability to adapt its schedule to these factors and reduce their impact on the company s
utilization.
Achieving the goals of Southwest Airlines
The company assesses its performance from different external and internal evaluations. The
Department of Transportation is an external evaluator that compares the performance of the
competitors in the airline market in different operations, like on time departures, lost luggage, etc.
Also the company makes internal targets for different operations and has an established appraisal
system for the employees that achieve the targets. They identify different goals for different sections

Mount Douglass Research Paper
For my place narrative assignment, I chose to focus on a place that I not only visit frequently, but truly
appreciate: Mount Douglas. This is a place I value not only for its beauty, but for the calmness it
allows me to experience as a result of being part of nature. As it turns out, this has been the location of
many important histories, dating back hundreds of years, and is still making history today. This history
is significant both ecologically, and culturally, and is something I have enjoyed learning about.
Through researching this place, and its surrounding area I have come to learn its importance branches
far greater than its importance to me. Before James Douglas, or any other settlers had arrived, this
place was known as PKOLS by the indigenous peoples in the area. PKOLS is located in the
W̱ SÁNEĆ territory, bordering Lekwungen and was a meaningful meeting place for these two nations

After years of erosion, made more prevalent due to previous logging practices, there is now barren
rock visible in many parts of the mountain. With very little soil on this rock, mosses and lichens grow
exclusively on the barren topography. Where there is soil, it is far less rich in nutrients than when it

Along with these native tree and plant species, there are many invasive species as well. Due to the
high volume of human visitors, there is inevitably a large population of introduced species. Though
PKOLS may not be as productive of a landscape as it has been in the past, there are still many species

Drug Trafficking In Mexico
Drug trafficking, as an actual problemátic around the world, has been a problem since long time ago,
and Mexico has come into notice around the world for this matter. Since approximately the 19th
century, the world has been worried because of illegal drug trafficking, but in the beginning, drugs
were not illegal and widely used throughout the world as they are today. Laws that banned the
commercialization use of drugs were approved less than 80 years ago in the mayor part of the world´s
countries, In the early 1900 s, drugs were not considered a serious issue, because the government
believed the abuse would not stop if citizens could not get drugs after they were banned, but it would
grow. Among the years, México has been gaining a bad image related with drug trafficking and ...

Seeing Is Believing Analysis
Don t trust everything you see. Even salt looks like sugar Anonymous. Some people believe that once
you see something, you can claim it to be true, but is it? Other citizens think what they see is an
optical illusion, acting, or maybe even craziness. For example, back in the slavery era, the overseers,
drivers, and slaves had to be in the hot sun either working or watching out for suspicious. When you
are in the heat too long, you began to hallucinate because you are hot, thirsty, or even tired. You
believe you see something, but is it there, is there any proof, or are you just focused on what you
think. Therefore, I understand that the saying seeing is believing, is not accurate.
I do not believe this saying because what your eyes see, is not always true because your brain and eyes
are manipulating you. For example, the short story entitled, Magic and the Brain, on the second page
of the story, fourth paragraph, sentence 3, states, As Thompson introduces his assistant, her skintight
white dress wordlessly lures the spectators[2] into assuming that nothing certainly not another dress
could possibly be hiding under the white one. That reasonable assumption, of course, is wrong. The

Catch 22 Literary Analysis
War tears away not only our mortal bodies but also strips away and desecrates the structure of our very
minds. Author Joseph Heller tries to define this through his wartime novel Catch 22 where he tells the
story of a World War II bomber named Yossarian, who faces internal struggle through his personal
experiences of war. This unique vantage point of an ordinary combatant who directly changes and
adapts through the events of the war allows the author to create and convey his own thoughts on the
fragile psyche of the men. In the novel Catch 22, Joseph Heller attempts to illustrate his thoughts on
the complete meaningless nature of war through paradoxical and cyclical encounters and certain
events and interactions between characters that help to answer the essential question of war s true
effects on the mental state of soldiers on the front.
Heller employs the powerful Catch 22 to persuade the reader on the meaninglessness of war through
purely absurd situations that clearly define the stupidity within the higher powers of government and
the conflict itself. Heller defines this immense level of idiocy through the ridiculousness in the rules
and regulations governing figures create to control the men in their command. Such an abnormality
occurs under the rule of Colonel Korn who set a rule during the education sessions that the only
people who were permitted to ask question where those that never did. Soon the only people attending

Cybele Art Analysis
The first artwork I chose was August Rodin s piece titled Cybele is the body of the goddess of Mother
Earth. This piece was made in 1904 as an inspired piece of Michelangelo s damaged classical and
incomplete work. The piece s present location is in the Lillie and Hugh Roy Cullen Sculpture Garden
outside of the Museum of Fine arts. The piece is a 3 D model of a body with no arms or a head. This
made out of casted bronze which makes a very smooth composition. Rodin s achievement as a
sculptor was to find a way to make the brute materiality of sculpture express the fleeting mobility of
the modern individual. To achieve this, he abandoned the polished and idealized figures of academic
sculpture and produced rougher, more unfinished surfaces, which better expressed restlessness,
corporeality, and movement. While this often suggests psychological agitation, it also evokes the
constant motion characteristic of life in modern times. I choose this piece because the nude human
body is a very beautiful thing to me as it symbolizes innocence and vulnerability. This second piece
from an unknown artist from the Hellenistic era in Greece portrayed Antigonos Doson as the ... Show

ponsibilities, especially a dispute with the civil government over its attempt to impose special taxes on
religious institutions.[14] Mendel died on 6 January 1884, at the age of 61, in Brno, Moravia, Austria
Hungary (now Czech Republic), from chronic nephritis. Czech composer Leoš Janáček played the
organ at his funeral. After his death, the succeeding abbot burned all papers in Mendel s collection, to
mark an end to the disputes over taxation.[15]
Experiments on plant hybridization
Dominant and recessive phenotypes. (1) Parental generation. (2) F1 generation. (3) F2 generation.
Gregor Mendel, who is known as the father of modern genetics , was inspired by both his professors at
the Palacký University, Olomouc (Friedrich Franz and Johann Karl Nestler), and his colleagues at the
monastery (such as Franz Diebl) to study variation in plants. In 1854, Napp authorized Mendel to
carry out a study in the monastery s 2 hectares (4.9 acres) experimental garden,[16] which was
originally planted by Napp in 1830.[13] Unlike Nestler, who studied hereditary traits in sheep, Mendel
focused on plants.
Mendel carried out his experiments with the common edible pea in his small garden plot in the
monastery. These experiments were begun in 1856 and completed some eight years later. In 1865, he
described his experiments in two lectures at a regional scientific conference. In the first lecture he
described his observations and experimental results. In the second, which was given one month later,
he explained them.
After initial experiments with pea plants, Mendel settled on studying seven traits that seemed to be
inherited independently of other traits: seed shape, flower color, seed coat tint, pod shape, unripe pod
color, flower location, and plant height. He first focused on seed shape, which was either angular or
round.[17] Between 1856 and 1863 Mendel cultivated and tested some 28,000 plants, the majority of
which were pea plants (Pisum sativum).[18][19][20] This study showed that, when true breeding
different varieties were crossed to each other (e.g., tall plants fertilized by short plants), one in four
pea plants had purebred recessive traits, two out of four were hybrids, and one out of four were
purebred dominant.

What Internal Pressures Are Impacting On The Organization
Q1 What internal pressures were impacting on the organisation in your situation, and how did the
organisation respond to those pressures?
Kaplan International is the type of company that relies its sales growth on technology. The
organisation uses a wide range of online marketing options in order to get the attention of potential
customers and create lead generation. To create leads is the term the company uses for acquiring a new
potential customers contact details that can lead to a closed deal. As web technology is the main tool
to increase sales, Kaplan International needs to improve their websites constantly by making them
more user friendly. This improvement can go from changing the website s colour to creating a new
navigation structure. And this was the challenge Kaplan International had to face two months ago,
when its growth sales report was released to web marketing and sales department managers, stating
that the sales numbers were lower than last year. According to the report the current website was not
generating as many leads as usual. This change in numbers was the result of people just clicking on
the company s website, but never filling forms in order to request further product information.
The main internal pressure Kaplan International had to confront was to increment its leads. As
technology affects most operations within Kaplan International, effective decision making was crucial
for the company s improvement. Key questions such as: How do we

Back in the 1800s most waste that ships carried were dumped in our oceans without much thought.

14.4 million tons of our waste is plastic which is not always biodegradable according to the EPA and

ways unimaginable like the fact that our fish are ingesting chemicals that is in the plastics in the sea

Another major health risk that occurs when our oceans are being polluted is that the seafood becomes
contaminated with chemicals. Chemicals are beginning to move up the food chain and soon into our
plates. Research and studies show that plastic is absorbed by animals when it floats in waters and
when these innocent fish and marine life ingest these foods it is endangering the marine ecosystem as
a whole. Now that we know how it is affecting us how does it reach our oceans to start with? Some of
it does come from ships that are sailing by but 80% of it comes from land. Most storm drains have a
common end point which is into our oceans. And lets say Johnny is waking down the street and eating
a lollipop and he litters the wrapper. Next thing you know it rains and that wrapper is swept away with
the water and into the storm drain. That drain leads into our ocean and that plastic wrapper is going to
be floating for a very long time. These systems are all a cycle but the problem is the cycle is a one way
street and that trash you threw onto the street will never come back to the street but will stay in our
oceans killing marine life. We can t only blame the consumers for the things occurring in our world. If
less plastic packaging were used and more paper or glass packaging were used it would really benefit

Psychoanalytic Perspective Of Kurtz s Heart Of Darkness

Psychoanalytic perspective of Kurtz in Heart of Darkness
The novel Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad reveals the uncanny similarities between the
Europeans and the natives as well as demonstrates why imperialism is not civilizing the natives.
Although Conrad often dehumanizes the natives, he still demonstrates that Europeans still are savage
in some ways. Kurtz is an example of the savagery still remnant in European culture buried deep
within us. Kurtz s journey in the Congo can be seen as his pure primal expression of his id without
restraint from his ego and superego.

His descent was mainly caused by the dehumanizing aspect of the Congo which the doctor implies by
taking initial measurements . His separation from civilization and the station allow for him to forgo
the superego and ego because they are not necessary in the Congo where only his primal drives are
necessary for survival shown by the natives. The primal and degrading aura of the Congo can be seen
when Marlow says It was unearthly, and the men were No, they were not inhuman. (44). This shows
that the aura of the Congo is foreign to the Europeans and environmental factors affect their ability to
suppress their id like it is more difficult when alone and away from civilization.
The return of Kurtz on Marlow s boat leads to the return of his ego and superego because he is with
Europeans again which shows what happens after his morality returns. Kurtz is described to be feel
very guilty about his actions, and he says things like I am waiting to die which shows his feelings of
utter shame of his actions after he represses his id even further. This culminates into his final words
the horror, the horror which shows the extreme guilt and shame towards his actions to the natives and
his beliefs of imperialism. This also shows how different one person can be when he lets his id run
rampant and when he controls it. Kurtz could be civilized European who embodies the initiative of
civilizing the natives, while he could also

IT Sourcing Essay
Business Transformation by way of IT Sourcing?
Overview
Do I think IT sourcing can be a transformative agent? Absolutely. Should IT sourcing be used as a
transformative agent? Not only do I reply in the affirmative, I d go so far as to say that IT sourcing,
where applies, is the key to successful business transformation.
We have got to ask ourselves this question first why do companies outsource? The bigger they are, the
more likely they are to be geographically distributed. The more distributed they are, the more likely
they are to outsource their IT requirements. The reasons are simple local vendors, like Cognizant
Technology Solutions or Tata Consultancy Services in India, are established players, incorporate
industry wide best practices, operate on a large scale (which is exactly what the client company seek
to achieve), possess expertise in varied technology domains and have stellar reputations for delivering
quality IT services. More importantly, they offer cost reduction and efficient technology management.
However there has been a subtle but steady shift in end user preferences that renders the traditional
outsourcing models redundant. Clients can no longer afford to be satisfied with just reducing their
costs. To stay competitive in this increasingly dynamic environment, to retain their user base and
market share, companies are now looking to their sourcing vendor partners to innovate and provide
technology enabled business transformation [1].

Stowe, Wheatley, And Truth Essay
When it comes to Stowe, Wheatley, and Truth there is one universal factor that they all had in
common. That factor was they all shared a common theme and all their novels and that theme was
based on slavery. Each of these authors have their own way of expressing their opinions of slavery and
how they portrayed it. They also all had different approaches and different writing styles. The pieces
of work that will be covered o express to answer the these questions are Uncle Tom s Cabin by Stowe,

But I do not agree with this. I feel that Stowe was just trying to spread awareness and let people know

and honest. This novel says it how it was there was no sugar coating whatsoever. This to me was a
great approach because it was better at spreading awareness of what all those people actually went
through.
I believe that Wheatley s work is revolutionary in content. I believe this because of what was
discussed in the pieces of work One century scarce performed its destined round, When Gallic powers

from His Excellency General Washington by Wheatley to me is very revolutionary in content. I feel
this because it was meant for George Washington and set to him. This all ties in to one because at the
time that this poem was sent to George Washington he was the newly appointed commander and chief

Sport agents negotiate contracts for athletes. However, their responsibilities don t stop at a business

Homeland Security Information Systems Analysis
As stated in the first chapter of the textbook, there are numerous ways homeland security goes about
informing and warning United States citizens on current or future catastrophes and hazards. One way
for people to stay informed on the current risk levels of terrorist attacks is through the Homeland
Security Advisory System, now known as the National Terrorism Advisory System. Sadly, the
information given to the public on these systems can sometimes be difficult for people to locate. As a
result, government agencies have teamed up with cell phone companies to provide an alternative, and
more accessible way to keep the public informed of not just current risks of terrorism but also useful
news updates. To better elaborate, according to one article, as of 2016 all smart phones now have the
capability to give the carrier real time warnings on tornados, hurricanes, flooding in the area, traffic
crashes, amber ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another great quality about this new alert system is that it sends instructions to the reader on how to
prepare for unexpected weather conditions or a terrorist attack (Biersdorfer, 2016). Moving on, today
another widely used app that can help inform the public is twitter. To better explain, according to one
source, people who use twitter can now select the option of getting minute to minute updates sent
straight to their phone on information on public emergency s (Biersdorfer, 2016). All the cell phone
holder has to do is select an agency, for example, the Department Homeland Security, and the
Department will send them the same updated information that would be posted on the National
Terrorism Advisory System (Biersdorfer,

Abstract This paper proposes a method for optimization of the harmonic performance of CHB inverter
under Selective Harmonic Elimination PWM modulation (SHEPWM) control. The proposed
optimization techniques are used to solve the set of non linear transcendental trigonometrical
equations. SHE were implemented to reduce the THD value. The set of non linear transcendental
equation is minimized by proposed Big Bang Big Crunch optimization technique. The proposed
topology is suitable for any number of levels. In this paper third, fifth, seventh and ninth level
harmonics have been eliminated. Simulation work is done in MATLAB software and experimental
results have been presented to validate the theory.
Keywords Cascaded Multilevel Inverter, selective harmonic elimination, Big Bang Big Crunch
Optimization Technique. Introduction
Multilevel inverters have ability to generate low switching frequency high quality output waveforms
with several high voltages and high power applications. The general structure of the multilevel

Analysis Of Still Life With Golden Breams By Francisco De...
Many artists through time have used art to express emotion or a standpoint, and Francisco de Goya
can surely be classified under this category of artist. Famously known for his controversial
relationship with the Spanish government the audience may conclude that many of his painting will
have a connection to the dispute. For example, in Still Life with Golden Breams most people may see
it as a well made still life of lifeless fish but in reality, it holds a deeper meaning. For instance, when
someone gets the opportunity to observe this composition they could say that the inability for the
Golden Breams to close their eyes reminds the viewer of how the fish were ones alive. That is to say
Goya probably made this still life to symbolize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Texture and mass are also very evident in this artwork. Francisco de Goya used texture and value to
his advantage to create a realistic figure that contains mass. The illusion of mass is so well portrayed
that it is almost as if the viewer could reach in and grab a fish out of the canvas and hold it like a
merchant in a fish market. In addition, the way the fish are stacked on top of each other renders an
organic rhythm that flows easily. In other words, the Golden Breams do not look as if they were in an
artificial potion rather it looks natural. Overall, Goya used atmospheric perspective to create the sense
of proximity of the fish to the viewer by modifying color, value, and texture. The overall style of
Francisco de Goya was miscellaneous since it evolved and changed through his careers as an artist,
however, his message to portray his standpoint and feeling has been there since the beginning. Goya s
brush strokes would vary from slow and delicate to raid and aggressive depending on his work. In
addition, his use of contrast would deviate from time as well but in his most noticeable artwork he
would highlight the main subject and darken the background. The way Goya used light and darkness
ended up created a unique technique where the artist would force the audience to look at a specific

Women In The Arabian Nights
The Arabian Nights allows the reader to view the world from an Islamic perspective. One can
understand the values that shape and mold their society, such as faith and wisdom. It would not be an
exaggeration to state that the Islamic society is based around these traits and are seen as crucial for
survival. These traits are a major factor on how males and females are portrayed in The Arabian
Nights. Women may either be portrayed as a possession of the male or the male under the influence of
the female or the male is portrayed as a gullible fool. Such varieties of portrayals depend on the
situation of the story. In the Arabian Nights one can see different aspects of faith in Islamic society.
This is due to the importance that faith has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Arabian Nights one can see the emphasis that God s will is imposed over everyone. Robert
Irwin States this in the novel called The Arabian Nights A Companion, Sometimes, however, one feels
that the doctrine of predestination (Irwin 197). In order to understand this structure, one must look at
the story The Porter and the Three Ladies . The Caliph Harun al Rashid is present at this story. During
his stay he witnesses what is occurring to these women, which shocks him Seeing the girl s
condition...he and his companions were troubled. (Pg.81). To Harun al Rashid horror he is not able to
question these women on why they are doing these barbaric acts, felt troubled and lost all patience as
he burned with curiosity (Pg.79). This horror is not for the safety of these women s, but for his duty to
God. In order to understand why the Caliph would worry about his own safety one must understand
the word itself. The word Caliph itself means shadow of God, which places the responsibility on the
Caliph for the justice and peace on earth. In the Arabian Nights one can see the emphasis that God s
will is imposed over everyone. Robert Irwin States this in the novel called The Arabian Nights A

School Of Athens
1.Raphael, The School of Athens
A) I see people, artists and scholars, standing, sitting, and lying in the hallways either drawing or
talking to each other. This piece of art have the colors: red, orange, yellow, blue, green, bronze, white,
black, and gray. It uses natural colors, which makes the picture look mild. The lines in the foreground
are very sharp, however, the other parts are soft.
B)The glorification of Ancient Greece(the Classics) can be seen in this art piece because the school or
building portrays Athens, the capital of Greece. The building uses the architecture of Ancient Greece,
and inside the building are many Greek philosophers or figures at that time.
This piece of art uses perspective because I can see a clear foreground, ... Show more content on

Surrounding him are sea creatures or sea monsters. This piece of art was sculpted on the fountain. I
see the colors: gray, teal, and white. The fountain is gray, the god is white, and the sea creatures are
teal. B) This piece of art glorifies Ancient Greece and the Classics because Neptune is the Greek god
Poseidon. Neptune/Poseidon s body features and features of the sea creatures surrounding him are
depicted very realistically. This art piece is secular because the god or sea creatures don t have halos
or anything to make them look very religious.
3. Leonardo Da Vinci, Self Portrait A)I see a self portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci. He has a long hair and
a long beard. This portrait has sketches, shadings, and many soft lines. He uses the color gray.
B) One characteristics of Renaissance Art I see in this picture is that it is secular because Vinci doesn t
look holy or religious in anyway. Another characteristic is that it focuses on depicting Vinci s face and
beard realistically.
This art piece also uses perspective because you can see Vinci s beard, face, and head three
dimensionally. this portrait also glorifies Ancient Rome because Vinci was from Italy and visited

Bite Movie Comparison
I knew going in that I was going to love The Curse / Curse II: The Bite Double Feature from Scream
Factory, based solely on the little blurb on the back of the case, which reads A Double Dose Of 80s
Horror! . Anyone that actually reads my site knows I have an unhealthy affection towards 80s horror
films, so when the cover is screaming out that these are two 80s horror gems, how can you not end up
loving them. Loving them is exactly what happened when watching this Double Feature, but in my
complete and utter surprise, I ended up enjoying the second movie Curse II: The Bite way more than
The Curse, two films that have nothing in common save a name. I ll get into exactly what I enjoyed
the sequel better, but for now, let s get on with the review of the first movie... PRODUCT

Frankly, I didn t see much of an issue with the transfer, save for a few rough scenes taking place in a
hospital, which had some wear and tear present. Besides that, the transfer was fairly solid. The same
goes for The Curse, which keeps a lovely grainfield intact, but still has some nice solid blacks. As for
the audio, which is DTS HD Master Audio Stereo for both, it s a bit on the low side in Curse II s case,
resulting in having to turn up the speakers a bit higher than usual, but overall, the sound was clean and
clear for both movies. The only feature, which really shouldn t be considered a feature is a trailer for
The Curse, which has the a pretty epic voice over speech from that trailer voice guy. I ve seen a few
things online about some behind the scenes clips for the special effects work on Curse II: The Bite, so
I m not entirely sure why this couldn t be included on this disc. It s a shame really, as I would have
loved to see some of the details that went into those gory scenes. BLU RAY SPECIAL FEATURES

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Teleworking
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, teleworking opportunities, increased from 19% in 2003 to
24% in 2015 (Shin, 2017). For employees, the question becomes what are the advantages and
disadvantages of working remotely and how do they affect culture, and the successes for the
employee? While job satisfaction is the driving force for employee morale, teleworking still requires
performance and productivity to be successful.
In order to gain a competitive edge, the employee must understand the influences which have a direct
effect on their abilities to telework. These include autonomy, flexibility, minimal distractions, lack of
commute, and cost saving, allowing the employee to cover the distance by utilizing communication
(Schulte, 2015). With high speed internet communication available throughout the world, including
remote areas, it s easier for virtual face to face meetings to happen, eliminating the need for the
physical office meetings.
First, the autonomy advantage is for persons that are self motivated, which provides the freedom to
control the work environment while holding themselves accountable. However, for individuals that
need structure and direct guidance, teleworking may seem too broad for them to function
independently (Schulte, 2015). A good telecommuter has an insatiable appetite to compete while
achieving a high level with minimal supervision. They must be technologically savvy with above
average problem solving skills to achieve defined measurable

Vatican Government
Government
Paragraph 1
Vatican can is an absolute ecclesiastical elective monarchy where the sitting pope (Bishop of Rome)
has ex officio powers on the executive, legislative and judicial arms of the government. The pope
exercises these powers through state organs acting on his name and authority. This form is elective
monarchy because it the pope is elected and a pope can ascend to the seat. The election of the pope by
cardinals is democratic because he must garner the support of a two thirds majority.
Paragraph 2
The current head of the Vatican City is His Holiness Pope Francis; real name is Jorge Mario
Bergoglio. Pope Francis, born in 1936 in Argentina is the 266th pope and he took over from Pope
Benedict XVI on March 13, 2013. Previously, Bergoglio worked as a chemical technologist and ...

Cardinals meet the soonest possible after the vacancy and must remain in seclusion until they elect a
new pope. This voting takes place within a conclave in Sistine Chapel. Candidates must be members
of the church, baptized in the church and be in a position to be ordained as Bishops since the Pope is
the Bishop of Rome. For absent cardinal (Mostly because of illness), three cardinals collect their
votes. Three other cardinals count the votes and another three verifies. Cardinals write the name of
their preferred candidates and swear that his choice is best in the eyes of God. A slight irregularity
leads to cancellation of the votes. On success, the votes are burnt and produce a white smoke
significantly announcing to the public that there is a new pope, followed by church bells. Immediately,
the Dean asks the elected Pope if he accepts If the answer is Accepto , his reign begins immediately
but if it is not his reign begins during inauguration seven days later. The elected pope chooses his

Control and Manipulation in A Rose for Emily and The...
In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily and Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper, the
two main characters exhibit behavior that some readers may consider unusual or even totally crazy.
These two women are having a difficult time adjusting to the many changes taking place around them.
In the midst of these changes, they face the struggles of being women such as post partum depression
and love and rejection from men. Such problems become so overbearing that each woman ends up in
their own delusional world which in turn, leads to their isolation and insanity. Gender issues, love,
hate, insanity and isolation, are thematic connections in both stories and are important components of
how each woman functions throughout the story and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the woman gets out of bed to investigate the wallpaper in the room, her husband says, What is
it, little girl? Don t go walking about like that you ll get a cold (319). His choice of words of calling
her a little girl belittles the woman and amplifies her feelings of being isolated, not only physically,
but emotionally. Since her husband is away most of the time and leaves her in confinement, the
woman immerses herself into studying the wallpaper [following] the pattern about by the hour (317).
She follows all the twist and turns of the wallpaper, decoding each detail and discovers what she
seems to be a woman in a cage. She spends all her time looking at the paper that she eventually
becomes obsessed with figuring out the patterns. She begins to identify with the woman in the cage
which could signify her imprisonment in the room and her being tormented by her husband s lack of
sympathy for her condition and his dominance in their marriage. Just as male dominance is an issue
for the woman in Gilman s work, Faulkner s A Rose for Emily details how Emily s father and love
interest dictate her life. Unlike the woman in The Yellow Wallpaper being dominated by her own
husband, Emily Grierson was under her father s control since an early age. Her, father who was
described as a spraddled silhouette and clutching a horsewhip , would chase away any prospective
mates for his daughter (Faulkner, 288). Such dominance and solitude carried on until

  • 2. Personal Narrative About Yosemite When my dad first talked to me about Yosemite, he described it as the most epic place on earth. I thought it would be pretty, but I never predicted how unreal it would actually be. My experience there was one I can never fully put into words. It was liberating, refreshing, and calming. I felt like a light inside of me had been lit again. When I was staring out at the valley, all my problems seemed to drift away. Standing at the top of Glacier Point, I take in a panoramic view of my surroundings. Huge bundles of tourists walk around, taking photos and gasping at the breathtaking view. I stand with my sister, 25 lb backpacking backpacks sit heavily like a bag of rocks on our backs as we chew our green apple sour gum. My dad leads us down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As we get closer to the floor of the valley, I get a better look at illilouette falls. The falls shoot out of the granite rock and swim down into a small lake. We stop here and dip our feet in the cold, but refreshing, water. I sit down on the side of the lake and splash a bit. I also take the time to chew on a piece of spicy jerky and crunchy apple. The food recharges my body, and I feel energy flood my body. Once back on the trail, I drag myself up a set of switchbacks going up the steep rock face. The sun is beating down at this point, and I wipe the sweat beading up on my forehead. I feel as if I have been walking forever on the rocky path, small bushes, and plants around me when we finally reach the top. The wind blows around me like a tornado, helping me. As we start the descend down, it feels as if it takes forever until we reach the Nevada Falls. They are loud and powerful and tumble down until it becomes a stream with huge rocks poking out. Around the stream are green trees and lots of plants. At the top of the falls, there is a footbridge which you are able to cross. I myself cross it, peering at the falls, intrigued by how turbulent it is. Although the falls are fast and tremendous, they have a calming effect on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Paul Krugman Microcononomics 16-17 1 Chapter 16 Externalities Consumers and producers are internal to a transaction. Consumers receive a benefit from the goods they purchase, while producers pay the costs of production. An externality (sometimes called a spillover) is a cost or benefit that goes to someone external to a transaction. Pollution is a negative (cost) externality. Education and research create a positive externality. Externalities can result from consumption or production. 2 An Example: Suppose that the costs of raising livestock are mostly borne by the rancher, but there is a spillover cost. Streams nearby get polluted, and this affects people (and other species) who use the stream as well as spinach farmers who also use the water for irrigation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 6 13 Consider the case of stream pollution by livestock Suppose the cost of preventing stream pollution is lower than the cost to spinach producers and other users of the stream. If spinach farmers have the right to clean water, then ranchers will not be willing to pay spinach farmers enough, and will be forced to prevent the pollution. If ranchers have the right to pollute the water, then spinach farmers would be willing to pay them enough to prevent it. Either way, the stream will not be polluted, and this is the most efficient outcome. 14 Suppose that costs are too high Suppose the cost of preventing stream pollution is higher than the cost to spinach producers and other users of the stream. If spinach farmers have the right to clean water, then ranchers will be willing to pay spinach farmers enough to allow pollution of the stream. If ranchers have the right to pollute the water, then spinach farmers would not be willing to pay them enough to prevent it. Either way, the stream will be polluted, and this is the most efficient outcome. 7

Peter Singer Essay Peter Singer, an Australian philosopher and professor at Princeton University asks his students the simple question of whether they would save a drowning child from a pond, while wearing they re bran new pair of expensive shoes. The response was aggressive and passive How could anyone consider a pair of shoes, or missing an hour or two at work, a good reason for not saving a child s life? ¹ Singer continued to argue that according to UNICEF, nearly 10 million children under five years old die each year from causes related to poverty. ² Is not saving a child drowning in a pond right in front of you the same thing as a child half way across the world dying in poverty? Whether that right is a good decision how ever is something we must stop and question. Someone with all the money in the world could buy a new car every day, throw lavish parties, go on vacation once a month on a new jet plane and even throw tons of money into a lake, they have the right to do so with they re money! How ever coud this incredibly rich person choose to do other things with their money? To choose to do these things rather than use the money to save human lives is wrong. ⁵ Singer insist that we should use our money wisely. In Singer s last argument he states a blunt and simple responce to Lucy s opinion on giving. My aim is to convince you, the individual reader that you can and should be doing a lot more to help the poor. By having the right to controle your own money and because we were fortunate enough to live in such great economical conditions, we should work harder to help others that will never have the same chances. Lucy from Glennview High and Peter Singer make strong points on each side of the fence. Individual and community are two words whose meanings contrast each other. An individual is one who is not reliant on others and exists as its own entity. A community however, is a group of individuals, whose efforts are combined and improved with help from others, therefore becoming reliant on each other. Both Rebekah Nathan and Kwame Anthony Appiah speak a great deal on what makes or breaks a community, what brings individuals together and what separates them. • 14. Antagonism In The Things They Carried The Allegorical Portrayal of Vietnam as the Antagonist in The Things They Carried War stories old and modern alike are often characterized by morality. Embellished with sensory detail and loaded with emotion, they appeal to a higher moral purpose that concludes with an uplifting message, effectively restoring one s faith in humanity and the glimmer hope that accompanies the grim reality of war. However, in The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien argues the exact opposite. He warns of stories seeming moral, asserting that true war stories contain no rectitude whatsoever...no virtue (65). In this way, he defies the traditional war story in favor of creating a non linear timeline with an overarching theme, a theme that displays no clear morals but rather uncompromising allegiance to obscenity and evil (66). Although this extreme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Given that post modernism involves an experimental style and a narrative that progresses in different and contrasting directions, (Bradbury 765) it can be argued that The Things They Carried is a work of metafiction, which concentrates on story telling and its higher purpose rather than being weighted down by what is considered to be reality. The epistemological ambivalence regarding the antagonist especially leads one to note the importance of the deliberate choice made by Tim O Brien to create this allegorical adversary as opposed to a more tangible villain typical of a war story (43). Had he chosen to portray the villain as the man he had killed, or Vietnam s army as a whole, his desired effect to declare a larger anti war message would not have relayed the same powerful impact to his audience. By representing the war itself through the landscape of Vietnam, O Brien personifies the war through nature s all consuming course in order to show how war corrupts and consumes, that it stops for no ... Using three civilizations as examples, describe the concept of the Axial Age The concept of axial age was introduced into the sphere of philosophical knowledge by German existentialist philosopher Karl Jaspers for characterizing the period of ancient history during about the 8th to the 3rd century BC. In this period of time we have developed a fundamentally new religious beliefs and doctrines that promoted human and cultural values of the era. Jaspers described the Axial Age as an interregnum between two ages of great empire, a pause for liberty, a deep breath bringing the most lucid consciousness. Jaspers argued that during the Axial Age, the spiritual foundations of humanity were laid simultaneously and independently in China, India, Persia, Judea and Greece. And these are the foundations upon which humanity still subsists today. Consider, for example Greece, India and China. Ancient Greece up to the 6th century BC was on a par with other civilizations by the level of spiritual development. It is the ability and practice of examining the whole system on a regular basis, rather than just trying to fix certain problems. It is also using the conceptual framework and tools of systems thinking to clarify the full patterns and to understand how to effect the most change. Senge s five components of a learning organization all work together. Personal mastery, shared vision, team learning, and mental models lay the groundwork for the organization. And systems thinking is the glue that makes it together. In order for the learning organization to work, each of the five disciplines must be developed at the same time and incorporated with one another. Applying Senge s model to the typical corporate mission of increasing shareholder value is perceptive. The Fifth Discipline calls this vision limited, since it does not consider what leads up to the increase in shareholder value. The typical corporate mission limits the organization s thinking to only one part of a problem. As an example, Senge states ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Author Joseph Heller tries to define this through his wartime novel Catch 22 where he tells the story of a World War II bomber named Yossarian, who faces internal struggle through his personal experiences of war. This unique vantage point of an ordinary combatant who directly changes and adapts through the events of the war allows the author to create and convey his own thoughts on the fragile psyche of the men. In the novel Catch 22, Joseph Heller attempts to illustrate his thoughts on the complete meaningless nature of war through paradoxical and cyclical encounters and certain events and interactions between characters that help to answer the essential question of war s true effects on the mental state of soldiers on the front. Heller employs the powerful Catch 22 to persuade the reader on the meaninglessness of war through purely absurd situations that clearly define the stupidity within the higher powers of government and the conflict itself. Heller defines this immense level of idiocy through the ridiculousness in the rules and regulations governing figures create to control the men in their command. Rodin s achievement as a sculptor was to find a way to make the brute materiality of sculpture express the fleeting mobility of the modern individual. To achieve this, he abandoned the polished and idealized figures of academic sculpture and produced rougher, more unfinished surfaces, which better expressed restlessness, corporeality, and movement. After his death, the succeeding abbot burned all papers in Mendel s collection, to mark an end to the disputes over taxation.[15] Experiments on plant hybridization Dominant and recessive phenotypes. (1) Parental generation. (2) F1 generation. (3) F2 generation. Gregor Mendel, who is known as the father of modern genetics , was inspired by both his professors at the Palacký University, Olomouc (Friedrich Franz and Johann Karl Nestler), and his colleagues at the monastery (such as Franz Diebl) to study variation in plants. In 1854, Napp authorized Mendel to carry out a study in the monastery s 2 hectares (4.9 acres) experimental garden,[16] which was originally planted by Napp in 1830.[13] Unlike Nestler, who studied hereditary traits in sheep, Mendel focused on plants. Mendel carried out his experiments with the common edible pea in his small garden plot in the monastery. These experiments were begun in 1856 and completed some eight years later. In 1865, he described his experiments in two lectures at a regional scientific conference. In the first lecture he described his observations and experimental results. In the second, which was given one month later, he explained them. After initial experiments with pea plants, Mendel settled on studying seven traits that seemed to be inherited independently of other traits: seed shape, flower color, seed coat tint, pod shape, unripe pod color, flower location, and plant height. He first focused on seed shape, which was either angular or round.[17] Between 1856 and 1863 Mendel cultivated and tested some 28,000 plants, the majority of which were pea plants (Pisum sativum).[18][19][20] This study showed that, when true breeding different varieties were crossed to each other (e.g., tall plants fertilized by short plants), one in four pea plants had purebred recessive traits, two out of four were hybrids, and one out of four were purebred dominant. ... Psychoanalytic Perspective Of Kurtz s Heart Of Darkness Hari Krishnan Period 4 Post AP Literary Theory Dr. Parchesky September 29th, 2017 Psychoanalytic perspective of Kurtz in Heart of Darkness The novel Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad reveals the uncanny similarities between the Europeans and the natives as well as demonstrates why imperialism is not civilizing the natives. Although Conrad often dehumanizes the natives, he still demonstrates that Europeans still are savage in some ways. Kurtz is an example of the savagery still remnant in European culture buried deep within us. Kurtz s journey in the Congo can be seen as his pure primal expression of his id without restraint from his ego and superego. His descent was mainly caused by the dehumanizing aspect of the Congo which the doctor implies by taking initial measurements . His separation from civilization and the station allow for him to forgo the superego and ego because they are not necessary in the Congo where only his primal drives are necessary for survival shown by the natives. The primal and degrading aura of the Congo can be seen when Marlow says It was unearthly, and the men were No, they were not inhuman. (44). This shows that the aura of the Congo is foreign to the Europeans and environmental factors affect their ability to suppress their id like it is more difficult when alone and away from civilization. The return of Kurtz on Marlow s boat leads to the return of his ego and superego because he is with Europeans again which shows what happens after his morality returns. Kurtz is described to be feel very guilty about his actions, and he says things like I am waiting to die which shows his feelings of utter shame of his actions after he represses his id even further. This culminates into his final words the horror, the horror which shows the extreme guilt and shame towards his actions to the natives and his beliefs of imperialism. This also shows how different one person can be when he lets his id run rampant and when he controls it. Kurtz could be civilized European who embodies the initiative of civilizing the natives, while he could also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. IT Sourcing Essay Business Transformation by way of IT Sourcing? Overview Do I think IT sourcing can be a transformative agent? Absolutely. Should IT sourcing be used as a transformative agent? Not only do I reply in the affirmative, I d go so far as to say that IT sourcing, where applies, is the key to successful business transformation. We have got to ask ourselves this question first why do companies outsource? The bigger they are, the more likely they are to be geographically distributed. The more distributed they are, the more likely they are to outsource their IT requirements. The reasons are simple local vendors, like Cognizant Technology Solutions or Tata Consultancy Services in India, are established players, incorporate industry wide best practices, operate on a large scale (which is exactly what the client company seek to achieve), possess expertise in varied technology domains and have stellar reputations for delivering quality IT services. More importantly, they offer cost reduction and efficient technology management. However there has been a subtle but steady shift in end user preferences that renders the traditional outsourcing models redundant. Clients can no longer afford to be satisfied with just reducing their costs. To stay competitive in this increasingly dynamic environment, to retain their user base and market share, companies are now looking to their sourcing vendor partners to innovate and provide technology enabled business transformation [1]. That factor was they all shared a common theme and all their novels and that theme was based on slavery. This novel says it how it was there was no sugar coating whatsoever. This to me was a great approach because it was better at spreading awareness of what all those people actually went through. I believe that Wheatley s work is revolutionary in content. I believe this because of what was discussed in the pieces of work One century scarce performed its destined round, When Gallic powers Columbia s fury found; And so may you, whoever dares disgrace The land of freedom s heaven defended race! For example, in Still Life with Golden Breams most people may see it as a well made still life of lifeless fish but in reality, it holds a deeper meaning. Francisco de Goya used texture and value to his advantage to create a realistic figure that contains mass. The illusion of mass is so well portrayed that it is almost as if the viewer could reach in and grab a fish out of the canvas and hold it like a merchant in a fish market. In addition, the way the fish are stacked on top of each other renders an organic rhythm that flows easily. In other words, the Golden Breams do not look as if they were in an artificial potion rather it looks natural. Overall, Goya used atmospheric perspective to create the sense of proximity of the fish to the viewer by modifying color, value, and texture. The overall style of Francisco de Goya was miscellaneous since it evolved and changed through his careers as an artist, however, his message to portray his standpoint and feeling has been there since the beginning. Goya s brush strokes would vary from slow and delicate to raid and aggressive depending on his work. In addition, his use of contrast would deviate from time as well but in his most noticeable artwork he would highlight the main subject and darken the background. For employees, the question becomes what are the advantages and disadvantages of working remotely and how do they affect culture, and the successes for the employee? While job satisfaction is the driving force for employee morale, teleworking still requires performance and productivity to be successful. In order to gain a competitive edge, the employee must understand the influences which have a direct effect on their abilities to telework. These include autonomy, flexibility, minimal distractions, lack of commute, and cost saving, allowing the employee to cover the distance by utilizing communication (Schulte, 2015). With high speed internet communication available throughout the world, including remote areas, it s easier for virtual face to face meetings to happen, eliminating the need for the physical office meetings. First, the autonomy advantage is for persons that are self motivated, which provides the freedom to control the work environment while holding themselves accountable.
