CYBER EXTENSION / E - EXTENSION
(INTERNET, CYBER CAFES, VIDEO
AND TELECONFERENCING, WEB
STREAMING AND MULTIMEDIA)
CYBER EXTENSION
"extension over
cyber space"
Cyber space is the imaginary or
virtual space of computers connected
with each other on networks, across
the globe.
FEATURES OF CYBER EXTENSION
 - Access to the astounding store-house of
information is free - Information is available
instantaneously - Communication is also the
interactive through e-mail, discussion groups,
and news groups - Information is available from
any point on the globe - Communication is
dynamic and ever growing
I. INTERNET
Internet is a worldwide network of computer networks.
It is an open inter connection of networks that enables
connected computers to communicate with each other
It is governed by INTERNIC (Internet Network Information Centre).
HOW TO CONNECT TO INTERNET:
BENEFITS AND PURPOSES OF INTERNET
LIMITATIONS OF INTERNET
1. Requirement of continuous power supply
2. Failure in network
3. Lack of knowledge for the people on use of internet
4. Selecting the required information in the net is difficult
from the volumes of information
5. Sometimes it misleads the individual for wrong
selection of information
6. Internet services are not available in rural areas
THE TERMS ASSOCIATED WITH INTERNET
ARE,
 i) World Wide Web (www)
 ii) Web Browse
 iii) Web Page
 iv) File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
 v) e-Mail
 vi) Search Engine
II. CYBER CAFE
A cybercafe is a place
cybercafes allow customers to use the
computers at no charge
III. TELECONFERENCING
1. Video conferencing – television – like
communication augmented with sound.
2. Computer conferencing – Printed
communication through key board
terminals.
3. Audio conferencing – Verbal
communication via the telephone.
COMPONENTS OF VIDEO
TELECONFERENCE
1. Video input – Video camera or webcam
2. Video output – Television / Computer monitor
3. Audio input – Microphones
4. Audio output – Usually loud speakers
associated with display device or telephone
5. Data transfer – Analog or digital telephone
network LAN or internet.
USES OF MULTIMEDIA IN AGRICULTURE
Reduction in the training time (approx. 25%) compared to
conventional methods
Cost-effectiveness, particularly in the long run Learner
acceptability – user friendly, control over the media and
immediate feedback
Superior quality of training, particularly in teaching skills
It caters to individualized instruction
It allows for interaction with the courseware material
It requires fewer tutor/educator resources
