A common question in the mind of every individual is the "stage fear of presentation" in a public forum such as Null meet. I'd be addressing this question in my talk titled " Why should I speak in Null Meet? " It would address common queries which many people have ( esp. Introverts) but don't ask readily in fear of rejection / ridiculed upon by peers etc. I'd be drawing examples based on my experience how and why I started presenting in Null Meets. I was too in similar situation few years back when I first started out in the industry:) This talk focuses on the practical side of the benefits of public speaking in esp. in Infosec domain. The points that would be in focus will be as follows: Why should I involve myself in Public speaking ? Isn't passive listening and working individually good enough? How can I start ? From where I can begin? Addressing the hidden fears Answering your mental blocks How does it help in my career? How does it help me? Takeaways

Welcome to Week 6! Congratulations! All of your hard work on your speech presentation has paid off. You have chosen your topic, researched it, organized your notes into an outline, worked on creating a PowerPoint presentation, and now you are ready to present it to your audience. So why do you feel sick to your stomach when you think about presenting it? Consider this: Imagine this scenario: Linda, Simmone, Serge, and Brian have worked with you to make a business decision about a new company procedure. Now your group needs to present its findings to the Board of Directors. Read this excerpt from the perspective of the proverbial fly on the wall at your latest team meeting: Linda: "I have given several presentations before, and I am typically pretty confident, but usually I am talking to customers or peers. This is the first time I have had to give a presentation to any group like a Board of Directors. I want to make a good impression, and I know we have made a good decision. Still, to be honest, I am worried about making a mistake or not How important is delivery as compared to content? Can communication anxiety actually be positive? What are the critical elements to persuading or moving an audience to action? 12/4/19, 2:45 PM Page 2 of 15 knowing how to answer a question." Simmone: "Oh, come on, Linda. The Board of Directors is made up of people just like you and me. Let's just go and get this done so we can move ...

how much and to whom do business people listen? your task interview a business person about his or her workplace listening. Connect with a worker in your circle of friends, family, and acquaintances; ask the following questions: 1) How much active listening do you practice daily? 2) To whom do you listen on the job? 3) How do you know that others are listening or not listening to you? 4)Can you share anecdotes of poor listening that led to negative outcomes? 5) Do you have tips for better listening? 6) Describe an incident when you had to listen attentively in order to act quickly enough to meet a deadline. 7) Give an example of a time when you had to ask direct questions to bring out diverse opinions on a central issue. 8) How do you deal with situations when others are finding it hard to communicate effectively with you? Solution The Interview with a business person in my family Mr.X : ME: How much active listening do you practice daily? Mr.X: I do listen actively through out the day untill i get tired after a day long work in the evening or night when my brain gets switched off and cannot accept anymore listening and just wanders about in pleasant thoughts. ME: To whom do you listen on the job? Mr.X: I listen to my higher authorities a lot and active because it is very important to deliver work on time. I also listen to my customers , my co workers etc... the least I listen to during the course of my job time is to the members of my family. ME:How do you know that others are listening or not listening to you? Mr.X: It is very easy to say if a person is listening or not listening. When a person is keen he involves in the discussion he asks questions. It applies eithers to customers or the working staff. People who are not listening and just nodding their head are very easily identified. ME: Can you share anecdotes of poor listening that led to negative outcomes? Mr.X: Yes, there are many such stories. I once told my co worker to get down at a place, walk fr 5 mins to a nearest spot and wait for me and we were about to do an important task The person listened only half he got down at a place but didnt walk to the spot and done the work got delayed and a huge deal got cancelled. I once also told one of my co worker to get me red chillies because we had to make some thing special hee instead got red chilli powder which was not at all required and infact available in large quantity. This actually spoiled the important occasion because red chillies were really the need of the hour. ME: Do you have tips for better listening? Mr.X: Yes, I do. I always suggest a person should always keep his ears clear and listen to what the opposite person says. It infacts saves a lot of time. When a student listens to a class properly from a teacher he doesnt have to spend time reading much he can save a lot of time over it instead of undertstanding it and reading it again and again without guidance. Hence, it is very important ot have a clear ear. Respect the spe.

This webinar was held on 14 May 2024. The covid-19 pandemic led to concerns about a worsening of mental health & wellbeing across the world and increased awareness in both society and the workplace. This webinar looks to advise the benefits of having a Mental Health First Aid function in the workplace whilst also providing tools and techniques that can be readily used and applied to yourself and colleagues. Additionally, there are wider benefits to Project Management which will be proposed and discussed.
