1. Question One
• The Person that I interviewed for this assignment is Daryan
Parker. She is the Treasurer for UCO's NAACP and she is a
lead mentor for the Black Women's Initiative at UCO.
• The first question that I asked her was "How do you
deal with anxiety whenever you give a speech"?
• Her response is that she practices many times before giving
her speech or she will practice her speech in different
ways.
• The way that I'll use this tactic in preparation for
a speech is by practicing in a room by myself with a friend
to act as my audience. I will also experiment
with introducing my speech in different ways so that I don't
get hyper-fixated and frustrated on trying to introduce my
speech.
2. Question Two
• The second question that I asked Daryan Parker is "How do
you connect with you audience when giving a speech"?
• Her response is that if she knows the audience beforehand,
she will write her speech in a way that is geared towards
the audiences. Another thing that she'll do is that she will
talk to the audience in way that isn't too robotic but isn't
too relaxed that its devoid of professionalism.
• How I would use this tactic in preparation for a speech is by
giving my speech in a way that sounds like I'm
having a casual conversation with my audience while still
showing a level of professionalism.
3. Question
Three
• The third and final question that I asked Daryan Parker is
"What do you do to make sure that your speech is neat and
in order"?
• Her response is that she would write her speech as an
essay and put her speech in four parts: The introduction,
the body paragraphs, and then the conclusion.
• How I would use this tactic in preparation for a speech is
that I would write the speech as an essay and as an outline,
practice by giving the speech with the outline and/or
essay in my hand, and then I practice giving my speech
without the essay or outline.
