ASSURE Day #4
Major Battles in the United States of America’s Revolution
Analyze Audience
The class has twenty students. There are seven girls and thirteen boys. The class has
eight African American students. They are all low income students. Three of the students have
a reading disability.
State Objectives
The children will explain and identify the major battles of the United States of America’s
fight for independence with a 100% accuracy in one week by completing a WebQuest, watching
several videos on the battles, exploring one of the battlefields on SecondLife, and acting out the
Siege of Yorktown.
Select Methods, Media, & Materials
They will mainly work individually on this lesson. I will need a QR code reader to access
one of the videos. All of the videos will require the SMART Board, my school computer, and
speakers. SecondLife will be accessed through my computer and shown on SecondLife. Each of
the children will need access to a computer to complete the Zunal WebQuest. I will need a
computer and printer to print the transcript for the Siege of Yorktown that is going to be acted
out.
Utilize Media & Materials
I will make sure I have a QR code reader that I can use to show the video. I will be sure
that SecondLife can be accessed on the school’s computer. I will also have my avatar at the
battlefield so that when I log on, I will already be at the right location. I will reserve the media
room so that the students can do the Zunal WebQuest. The speakers, SMART Board, and
computer in my classroom will be checked so that they work properly for showing the videos.
The printer should have enough ink to print the transcript. At the beginning of the lesson, I will
discuss what activities they will be participating in.
Require Learner Participation
The students will watch some fun Liberty’s Kids videos on the Battle of Yorktown. They
will watch one other video on the Battle of Yorktown. They will vote to see which one we go to.
2. Then, they will complete a Zunal WebQuest on the major battles. After that, we will look
around at one of the battle sites they learned about. As a group, the students will work
together to act out the Siege of Yorktown. Their skit is how they will be evaluated on the
material. They should be creative and work together on this skit. They should practice critical
thinking and group-project involvement. They will also be assessed on their performance on
the WebQuest.
Evaluate Methods & Material
After they watch the videos, I will ask them if that is the kind of stuff they would like to
see more in class. Once they have completed the WebQuests, I will see how well they do. If
they are not performing as well as I would like, then I will review the content of it. The
WebQuest is how they will be assessed for this lesson. The skit will also be an assessing tool,
but will not have as much importance as the WebQuest. Perhaps I need to change the wording
or add some new resources so that the questions can be better answered. I will make any of
the necessary changes so that the lesson can be improved.
