ASSURE Assignment
Analyze Audience
The students are fourth graders. There are twenty students: eleven girls and nine boys. There are two
Muslims, three Jews, and two African Americans.
State Objectives
The kids will identify and explain the holidays in one week with a 100% accuracy by watching a
YouTube video on holidays, doing WebQuests, listening to a podcast on holidays, and making a
Storytelling video on a specific holiday.
Select Methods, Media & Materials
The kids will listen to a podcast on the holidays celebrated by Jews. They will do a Webquest on
both African American and Muslim holidays. They will also watch a YouTube video on Christian holidays.
They will be divided into groups and make a short Storytelling video on one of the holidays. A computer
will be needed to do the WebQuests and make the Storytelling video. The Storytelling video also will
require the use of a microphone. A computer and SmartBoard will be needed for showing the YouTube
and Storytelling videos. A computer and speakers will be needed to listen to the podcast as well as
watch the Storytelling and YouTube videos.
Utilize Media & Materials
I will preview the YouTube video, podcast, and WebQuests before they are presented to the kids. I will
also make sure the websites are accessible on school computers, that the microphones work on the
computers, and that the speakers work on the computers. I will make sure the computers in the school
are free and schedule a time for the children to do their WebQuests there. I will also be sure to check
that the SmartBoard is working properly so that the videos will be able to be shown without any
difficulties.
Require Learner Participation
The kids will watch the YouTube video and listen to the podcast. They will participate in a group
discussion on those holidays. Next, the students will do one WebQuest on African American holidays
and another on Muslim holidays. The kids will then have to create a Storytellling video on a particular
holiday that they learned about. They will do this in separate groups and present their work to the class.
Evaluation of Methods & Media
After watching the YouTube video, listening to the podcast, and doing the WebQuests, the
children will be debriefed on what they have learned. The kids will be evaluated based on the content
of the Storytelling video they have presented. Then, the kids will discuss with me how interesting the
YouTube video, podcast, and WebQuests were. The proper changes will be made to the curriculum for
future times the lesson will be used.
