2. ANALYZE LEARNERS
I am teaching a class room in rural West Virginia.
My class consists of 13 males and 10 females. The
breakdown of the class is that 90% are Caucasian
with 5% African American and 5% Latino. There
are no learning disabilities in the class, but there is
one child who is wheel chair bound and will not be
able to participate in any physical activities. They
have somewhat limited resources since they are
from poorer homes, but they all have access to
computers, internet, and cell phones.
3. STATE OBJECTIVE
I pushed very hard in the first couple days to talk
discuss all of the factors leading up to the
beginning of the war. This day is totally going to
focus on the major aspects of the war. I want to go
into the leaders and major battles of the war. I will
be using a variety of creative and information
based tools to teach the main aspects of the war.
4. SELECT METHOD, MEDIA,
AND MATERIALS
- Students will need a computer with internet capability to
create a Facebook account. They will need to have it at
their home so that they can comment and discuss topics
with their classmates.
- Students will also need a computer and internet access to
complete the Web Quest. They won’t need it at their home
though because they can use the computer labs at the
school for this assignment.
- Lastly, we will need paper and color pencils so that we can
draw diagrams of the battles and hang them in the room.
5. UTILIZE MEDIA &
MATERIALS
- I will pose the question “What was more of a downfall for the
British. The French siding with the Americans in the war? Or
the Americans fighting a defensive war?” This will allow the
students to debate each other intellectually while I monitor
them. This allows my students to see and argue many
different points of view.
- The WebQuest is already made by me. It makes my students
answer and look up questions about some major battles
during the revolutionary war. This lets them see how
disadvantaged we were at some points at the war and how
we perserveared.
- The diagrams of the battles is to help decorate my
classroom. Each student will chose one of the battles they
researched in the WebQuest. They will draw a diagram of
where each army was and troop movements during the
battles.
6. REQUIRE LEARNER
PARTICIPATION
All of my students will be required to participate in
this assignment. The only way a student will have
an excuse to get out of part of the assignments is
if somebody does not have internet access at their
house. Then they will be able to get on Facebook
and debate with their classmates. I will grade
everyone on completion and their depth of
answers for the Web Quest.
7. EVALUATE AND
REVISE
It seems as though the students thoroughly enjoyed the
assignment. They learned a good bit of information from the
WebQuest, while having more of an enjoyable time doing the
drawing assignment and debating each other on the
Facebook post. Maybe next time I need to create more of an
emphasis on the leaders during the revolution rather then the
battles that I enjoy the most.
