Shinewaves Competition
Last week’s competition was to design an A4 sized poster to encourage Tesco customers to adopt a healthy lifestyle. All
entries will be forwarded to Tesco, but the Shinewaves winner is Abi Wright from 4CP. Congratulations Abi.
Now to this week’s competition. Samuel Morse was born on 17th April 1791. He invented Morse code. He translated every
letter of the alphabet into a combination of dots and dashes. Morse Code can be transmitted using sound or light, as
sometimes happens between ships at sea. Probably the most well known Morse Code Message is the distress signal:
"dot dot dot, dash dash dash, dot dot dot." ...___...
1. What does this message mean?
2. Invent a morse code signal to show you are fine and explain what it means.
Pop your entries in the competition postbox, with your name and class on the back, by the morning of Tuesday 4th May.

Netball News
Both teams had matches last week. The ‘C’ Team were away to Holy Family.
They dominated the game, beating them 30-3. Congratulations girls!
The ‘N’ team were away to St Patricks. Although the team played well and Nikita courageously played on with a severe
knee injury they were beaten 9-4.
Absences
It is vital that you ring the school office on the first day and inform us if your child is
absent for any reason.
We care about all the children and it helps staff if they know why your child is
absent and when they are likely to return. This way we can also ensure any important information is sent home.

4. Year 2 Trip to Botanic Gardens
Year 2 had a brilliant but very exhausting
day at Botanic Gardens. After walking to
the park we observed the many species
of bird and animals and told our leaders
lots of adjectives and verbs to describe
their appearance and movement. The
long walk there made everyone ravenous
so an early picnic lunch was appreciated
by everyone. Following lunch we were
allowed into the museum where we
looked at how the Victorians lived and
what they wore. We then read all about
the tragic lifeboat disaster when
Southport lifeboat men tried to rescue a
vessel in distress.
Unfortunately only two people survived.
We are honoured that some of our
children are related to those brave
Your Child’s Appearance seamen.
We would like to draw parent’s and children’s
attention to the section on appearance in the
school’s prospectus.
Children are encouraged to wear their hair in a
suitable manner for school. Extremes of fashion,
both in terms
of clothing and personal appearance are not
allowed in school. By drawing attention to
themselves in this way
children can open themselves to potential bullying
and ridicule and distract other pupils from their
work.
All hair longer than shoulder length (regardless of
gender) should be tied back.
1. Trainers and high heeled shoes are not school
uniform.
2. Jewellery (including necklaces, bracelets and
rings) should not be worn in school, with the
