                                   As part of our healthy school campaign children have been invited to take

 Children return to school:        There will be a bonfire and grand firework display on Saturday 1st November at
 Tuesday 4th November 2008         Victoria Park in Southport. This event has been organised by Southport Hesketh Round
                                   Table in aid of Queenscourt Hospice and North West Air Ambulance.
 Quiz Night: Friday 14th           If you would like to attend the event, tickets can be purchased from Mrs Gregson in the
 November. Doors open              school office. If purchased in advance, ticket prices are £5 per adult £2 young person
 7.30 pm.                          (5-14 years) Free for under 5’s. The bonfire will be lit at 6.30 pm and the fireworks
                                   display will be at 8.00 pm. There will also be a Roadshow, BBQ and fairground.

 School closes:
                                   Norwood played their second league game of the season today against Premier League
 Friday 19th December at 2pm.
                                   Champions, Farnborough. Unbeaten for as long as I can remember, Norwood knew
             -oOo-                 that Farnborough were going to be tough opponents. Praise must go however to
                                   Norwood’s goalkeeper, Jake Rigby, who kept the score down! Norwood battled in each
      Spring Term 2009             third, coming closest to scoring in the last five minutes. At no point did the Norwood
                                   players give up the fight and they are to be praised for their valiant efforts. Well done

As last Friday was World Smile Day, this week’s competition is to submit a joke that

The Alex Fund
                                                                                       School closed: Staff training day
A group of mums are organising a few fundraising events to raise money for             Monday 13th July.
Alex Powderly (6M) who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. We would
like to raise in the region of £4,000 to help Alex, his mum Gill and sister Megan to   School closes: Tuesday 21st

Eco News
                            Norwood achieved their Bronze Eco Award on 2nd October. We are hoping to achieve our
                            silver award by Christmas and will then be working on the Green Flag. Any parent or
                            governor who would like to join the Eco Committee, please contact Mrs Ashcroft, Mrs
                            Kenrick or Mrs McCarthy.
                            We have one child representative per class from Years 2-6. Our members are Natasha
                            and Joanna (Year 2), Madeleine and Lucy (Year 3), Lucy and Caitlin (Year 4), Luke and
                            Charlotte (Year 5), Ben and Elisha (Year 6).
If any parents, governors or PTA members are interested in joining the Eco Committee please let one of our members
know. The Eco Group are also in need of some gardening tools. If you have any in good condition and you are
willing to donate we would appreciate any hand tools such as trowels and forks which are easy for the children to
use. Please contact Mrs Ashcroft, Mrs Kenrick or Mrs McCarthy.
Norwood has registered for the Generation Green scheme run by British Gas. You may have seen the advert on
television. We have to complete ‘green’ tasks to earn green leaves and have been given the target of 42 645. So far
we have earned 3232. Staff, parents, relatives and friends can earn green leaves by completing an energy saving
report on britishgas.co.uk, and donating their green leaves to Norwood. Each energy saving report will earn Norwood
100 leaves. There are also games and activities available for children on generationgreen.co.uk.
