For instance, radios, televisions, newspapers, and magazines are forms of media. The influence the
media has around the globe is profound, therefore, in this essay, I am going to discuss the impact
that media has on the society today.
Although social media can connect all people in the world instantly, the negative effects have a great
impact on the society because it decreases the desire for actual communication.
First and foremost, media has an impact on Change in Identity.
In Miss Representation video, it is said that "53% of 13 year old girls are unhappy with their bodies.
And that number increases by 75% at 17 years old. And 65% in women and girls with anorexia"
This is very true because in teen magazines and beauty pageant shows, women are portrayed as
"skinny".
This image by the media today is unrealistic and even a very dangerous standard of feminine beauty.
The idea by media that "thinness" is idealized and expected for women to be considered "attractive".
Images in televisions, advertisements, and music usually portray women as "ideal woman" as tall,
white, blonde, and thin. Women and girls with weight problems like obesity, are going to feel less
worthy and ashamed of their physical appearances.

This was relevant to my paper in answering the question of why there are certain expectations of
women in television news. The textbook, Gender, Race and Class in Media had a few chapters
relevant to my paper. Larry Gross wrote a chapter titled, "Out of the
Mainstream: Sexual Minorities and Mass Media." He discussed various stereotypes in our society
that lead to stereotypes in all areas of our lives. I found some of my sources from Oasis, and also
used a couple of magazine articles that were relevant to the subject. I focused on the questions that I
wanted to answer and drew points from the material that were relevant and provided substantial
evidence to answer my questions. I found that opinions and thoughts of women who had been
through the business were most helpful. There was one big limitation I faced if I wanted to prove

in which our society has become greatly dependent on. Coal, a solid stone like fossil fuel, has been

I chose assessment #10: Authenticity Scale (Biswas–Diener, 2010, p. 122) for my assessment.
Between this current quarter and the last, I pushed myself beyond limits on another section of the
Appalachian Trail. On the morning of day number 3 out of 6, I snapped a selfie of myself as I
crested a ridge line on a bald (treeless ridge line with unlimited views). The photo was unique and
looked manipulated with a filter due to the glare from the sunrise burning through thin patches of
fog spilling over the ridge as if the mountain was an airfoil. That photo is now my Facebook profile
picture and titled, "Nothing artificial." I have always pushed myself to be true and authentic in all I
do. That does not mean being perfect, it means being honest with myself.
Unfortunately, this strength of authenticity (i.e., the VIA strength of honesty is further defined as

today and the environment they/we live in. In my focus particularly are societies of the Westernized

screens, constantly crop up in our daily conversations, and dominate the news and media. But wait,
there's something missing from the list of names above– a group constituting nearly 51% of our
population– women("Women's Health USA 2012."). Scarce are mentions of successful female
journalists. Scarce are women confidently voicing their political opinions on reputable news
channels. Scarce are truly powerful female journalists. In reality, this problem goes unnoticed by
most– in fact, despite being a news and politics aficionado, it didn't hit me until recently that women
were so blatantly marginalized in this industry. It is perfectly valid to question the relevancy of such
an obscure issue, but obscurity does not equate to unimportance. Portraying women unequally in the
media defies not only our principles, but also the nation's principles. How can we claim that we are
a nation of equal opportunity if we don't practice what we preach? We must encourage women to
increase their political awareness and take on leadership roles in the media, especially in covering
the most vital topics, because the underrepresentation of women in media encourages disparity
between the sexes.

Sexual harassment accusations regarding public figures has been one of the most popular news we

Diversity Of Crime In Society Today
The main questions that should be asked is why is there is much crime in society today? I am 27
years old and I have seen so much crime in my 20's that it sad whether it is on the news or even in
my hometown, Memphis, TN. With crime in our society we are as well as is losing our authority.
When discussion the diversity of crime and society the matter is the things that makes criminal law
enforcement such a perplexing question. Like I mention, I have been living in Memphis, TN all my
life which have been for 27 years. Just this past Sunday my city had a Black Lives Matter protest.
Also in the city of Memphis the groups of KKK also protest on July 10th at the same time. The
Black Lives Matter protests took place on the Memphis/Arkansans Bridge. Even those this were two
different protest I must say they both were very peaceful , yes it was a scary thing because either one

Just this year alone the City of Memphis has had over a 100 deaths, in which a lot of them have been
people of color. I will never forget the number of people I have seen get killed in the downtown area
where I work security in Memphis. The youth of today is the reason why society is bad today. The
crimes rate in my hometown is increasing every day and it is sad. There have been times when I
have ask myself why is the crimes rate so uncontrollable in Memphis and also around the world. I
believe it starts at home, I have a daughter and I refused to let my child grow up the wrong way. I
keep my child in church and we are very involved in child, I refused to let these streets raise my
daughter. Now the most important question to me why is it that just Black Lives Matter. No, All
lives Matter, to me everyone is the same we all bleed the same and organs or the same we just

American Society Today
The society of America today is total different for most Americans then what it was during the 1950s
, 1960s , 1970s and on into the 80s. America today is one were black people have the vote and have
the same rites as white men and women. Today the leader of the free world is Black some thing that
many though would never happen in there generation. But there are still inequality in America
today. Urban ghettos are still mostly full of uneducated black people. Black men in America are four
times more likely to go to prison. Drop out rates for black students are higher then white and those
going on to collage and university is lower then whites. This problem goose back centres. The

All these things add together like lack of jobs , poor education and health care meant that these areas
became ghettos.
With these ghettos came crime. People couldn't get jobs and they still need to pay the bills and put
food on the table. Selling and using of drugs became a huge problem in these areas. Using and
supplying of drugs became easer in the cite ghettos with the lack of police in the areas. And with the
drugs came crime. The situation was not helped when people could buy a news paper just as easy as
a gun. Death by drugs and crime in these areas were higher then any were else's in America. In the
1970s 30 per cent of America crimes were reported by six cites in America that only had 12 per cent
of the total population of America. And these cites had large black ghettos and populations.
Much of the crime in America was drug related. This had a ripple effect on the ghettos law and order
was not respect. People how became addicts began robbing to pay for there habits. To make matters
worse drug gangs started street battles over selling areas of the cites.
The governments tried tackle the issue by building urban house for the people of these ghettos. They
failed hugely. The high rise apartments became drug and crime ridden. The effects were seen
through out life some of them were isolation , marriage break ups .
Some governments did try tackling the issue people like J.F.K gave more money to education and
