An Introductory Course Into Animal Assisted Therapy Essay
Through this introductory course into Animal Assisted Therapy, I have learned about the Human
Animal Bond, the history of AAT and AAA, the five freedoms, the differences between AAT and
AAA, and the various populations in which this therapy responds greatly to. This paper gives a
detailed and comprehensive overview of what I have learned from this course and my own perception
of how I will incorporate things learned from this course into my everyday life and into my future
career in AAT. The HAB, or the Human Animal Bond, is the relationship between human beings and
animals. The American Veterinary Medical Associations committee on the Human Animal Bond
describes HAB as, a mutually beneficial and dynamic relationship between people and other animals
that is influenced by behaviors that are essential to the health and well being of both (Fine, 2015).
There are many factors that play into creating a heathy relationship for both the animal and the human.
Relationships between animals and humans have to be voluntary, persistent, reciprocal, and built upon
trust (Fine, 2015). Humans need to increase their understanding and care for the animal while the
animal increases their trust level for the human (Fine, 2015). Three theories that aim to tell us why the
HAB exists are social support, the foundation for mental health and healthy functioning, theories of
attachment, which explains the human needs of protection (both needing protection and protecting
others), and the biophilia

Ethics in Business Essay
Introduction
Ethics in business is important of everyday moral and ethical norms to business. Perhaps, the Ten
Commandments from Bible come to mind as an example of morality that still used by many today.
These commandments carry concept of being truthful and honest, and try to stay away from theft and
greed. An idea of stewardship can be found in the Bible as well as many other religious literatures that
can be and have been applied to business.
Beside religion, philosophy also carries similar ethical traditions. For example, Plato s main theme of
Republic is justice, and Aristotle in his Politics cares model of economic relations, business and trade.
Today, Business Ethics is the conduct that businesses carry in ... Show more content on

FACTs of WA MU
Washington Mutual Bank, aka WA MU, was organized in September 1889 to help provide funds for
rebuilding Seattle after the great fire. Washington Mutual became the largest thrift in the US, and one
of its largest banks. From that beginning, Washington Mutual has grown into financial services
company that offered services in mortgages, credit cards and retail landings. But if its rise was storied,
its fall was spectacular, ending in the largest bank failure in American history to date (The New York
Times, 2010). Sadly, Washington Mutual Bank, or WA MU, was seized on Thursday, September 25,
2008.
In April 21, 1982, Washington Mutual acquired Murphey Favre, Inc. and Composite Research
Management Co. WA MU decided to keep on the firm s executive vice president, Kerry K. Killinger.
Kerry was elevated to the position of president in 1988 and chief executive officer in 1990 (The New
York Times, 2010). Kerry s leadership brought new strategies to the company. According to The New
York Times (2010), in July 1996, Mr. Killinger engineered the purchase of the 158 branch California
based American Savings Bank, a $1.4 billion deal that nearly doubled the size of Washington Mutual,
instantly making it the third largest American savings and loan.
Financial centers were redesigned, exchanging the traditional banking atmosphere for that of a

Analysis Of The Back Of The Turtle By Thomas King
The novel The Back of the Turtle by Thomas King is relevant to Canada in both present day and
history. Through the setting, characters and theme the story is portrayed in a way that makes it sound
like a calamitous prediction for the future of Canada s treasured natural world. Riddled with corporate
greed and environmental disaster, the story follows those involved and affected by the catastrophe that
destroyed Samaritan Bay. His lifelike characters are tangled with labyrinthine emotions that add
another layer of complexity to the story. In my opinion, the novel The Back of the Turtle by Thomas
King is a great novel because of the depth of storytelling that the author can achieve, and deserves to
be recognised as a Great Canadian Novel . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gabriel Quinn, a scientist partially responsible for the destruction of Samaritan Bay and employed by
the company Domidion International; attempts suicide in his hometown of Samaritan Bay and ends up
saving himself in a bid to save a drowning first nations girl in the water. Much like himself, the girl is
struggling in the water, and when he first sees her he describes her as a hand thrust out of the water,
then and arm, fragile, a slender branch caught in a flood. . This girl is a symbol of the guilt that weighs
Gabriel down, from the disaster that drove out the first nations people and obliterated his hometown.
Gabriel meets two other characters, Crisp, a crafty local full of vibrant stories, and Mara, an artist who
returned from Toronto to reconcile with her past. The relationships that Gabriel develop with the
people in Samaritan Bay when he returns is what, in my opinion, makes the novel as good as it

Fear Of Tyranny
Before the year 1787, we were all in fear of tyranny. Thinking things would go back to like they were
in England, with the king having complete power over everyone and everything, a group of delegates
joined together to help calm these fears. They grouped in the summer of 1787, in the great land of
Philadelphia, and wrote everything down. They came up with laws and rules and government ideas
and formed it into what we call the Constitution of America (Background Essay). But how did this
help keep us from tyranny? Well, in the list of laws, we also had rules for our government and how it
would work. They split our government into three branches, the Legislative Branch, the Executive
Branch, and the Judicial Branch. Now, these branches work together

Reasons For Political Violence Occurs
It can be challenging to adequately explain why political violence occurs, but several political
scientists have created theoretical explanations to help in the process. These explanations include the
relative deprivation theory, cultural explanations, structural or institutional explanations, and
primordialism. I personally believe that relative deprivation offers the most leverage in explaining
why political violence occurs because it takes into account the variance of political violence and
shared characteristics across human nature. Primordialism is also known as the ancient hatred
argument and is concerned with blood relations between groups of people (Clay Fuller 2016d). This
explanation is often used to explain ethnic conflicts in which there is animosity between two or more
groups because of their biological makeup. This could potentially be used to help explain why the
conflict between the Tutsis and the Hutu occurred in Rwanda during the genocide in 1994. The Hutu
and the Tutsi are distinctly different ethnic populations in which the Hutu are short and stout while the
Tutsi are taller and generally have lighter skin tones (Marie Utumetsi 2004). These genetic differences
amongst the two groups created a society of separation, where in groups and out groups based on how
different populations look were created. As a result, it is easy to form relationships between the two
groups based on us versus them . There are several downfalls evident in primordialism,

Testis Echotexture
Testicles can be found on the male patient within the scrotum. The normal testicle measures three to
five centimeters in length, two to four centimeters in width, and three centimeters in anterior posterior
measurements prospectively. Each testicle is encapsulated by the tunica albuginea. The support system
for the vessels and ducts of the testicle is called the mediastinum. The Epididymis is comprised of
three parts, the head, body, and tail. The relative size of the normal epididymis is six to seven
centimeters in length. The echogenicity is usually brighter than that of the testis. The normal testis
echotexture is uniform throughout in appearance. The appendix teste, when visualized, can be found
in the upper portion of the testis. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gland is composed of two lobes that lie on each side of the trachea and is connected centrally by
the isthmus. The isthmus overlies the trachea. Surrounding the thyroid are many muscles and vessels.
It is important to acknowledge and recognize the surrounding anatomy of the thyroid gland. The
average size of each gland found the normal adult is forty to sixty millimeters in length, and thirteen to
eighteen millimeters in anterior posterior measurements. The thickness of the isthmus is usually four
to six millimeters in thickness. Sonographically, the healthy thyroid appears as medium to high level
echoes, with the same echotexture throughout. The superior thyroid artery and vein are found in the
superior portion of each lobe, and the inferior artery and vein can be found in the inferior portion of
each thyroid lobe. It can be very easy for an untrained sonographer to confuse the esophagus with a
thyroid mass. The esophagus can be located usually on the left side. The main cause for nodular
thyroid disease is hyperplasia. Whenever hyperplasia causes a relative increase in volume or size to
the gland it is then termed goiter. Thyroid cancers are rare, and most biopsies that are performed on
nodules are benign. Usually cancerous thyroid nodules will appear homogeneous, hypoechoic, and are
typically taller than wide. The appearance of both cancerous and benign nodules can vary from cystic
components, calcifications, mixed echotextures, and different echogenicity s. Hashimotos thyroiditis
is the most common type of thyroiditis, and is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in North
America. Sonographically, the appearance of the thyroid with this disease will appear course, and have

Google, The Co Founder Of Google
Report: Google
1. Purpose
The IT entrepreneur I ve decided to research on is Larry Page, the co founder of Google. This report
covers the purpose of Google as a search engine, the technologies that it uses for its searches, how it
managed to beat its predecessors and the hardware that it uses, both old and new ones. The reason why
I chose Google is because I ve been using it for a number of years now and I thoroughly enjoy the
experience of surfing the web with it. 2. Key Information
1.1 Introduction
The idea of Google developed when its founders wanted to organize an infinite amount of information
on the web. It was first called Backrub , and later on adopted the name Googol, after a mathematical
terminology. The founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin worked on their idea for 3 years before
deciding to incorporate it. It officially became a company in the year 1998. Google started off as a
search engine, and it maintains its core business until now. The main benefits of having a search
engine include quick results for intended searches, as search engines extract information from the web
and display in an organized manner.
Google quickly became the most popular search engine due to several reasons. Firstly, this is due to
speed of delivering search results. When it first launched, Google used several different computers to

English translation. Tagore certainly had strongly held...
English translation. Tagore certainly had strongly held religious beliefs (of an unusually
nondenominational kind), but he was interested in a great many other things as well and had many
different things to say about them. For Tagore it was of the most elevated significance that individuals
have the capacity to live, and reason, in flexibility. His mentality to governmental issues and society,
patriotism and internationalism, custom and advancement, can all be seen in the light of this belief.
Nothing, maybe, communicates his qualities as obviously as a ballad in Gitanjali: Where the mind is
without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken

And yet there is a deep division between the two men. Tagore was explicit about his disagreement:
Tagore s profound antipathy for any dedication to the past that couldn t be altered by contemporary
reason stretched out even to the affirmed prudence of perpetually keeping past guarantees. On one
event when Mahatma Gandhi went to Tagore s school at Santiniketan, a junior lady got him to sign her
signature book. Gandhi composed: Never make a guarantee in flurry. Having once made it satisfy it at
the expense of your life. When he saw this passage, Tagore got disturbed. He composed in the same
book a short ballad in Bengali such that nobody could be made a detainee everlastingly with a chain of
dirt. He happened to close in English, conceivably so Gandhi could read it excessively, Toss away
your guarantee in the event that it is discovered to not be right. Tagore had great reverence for
Mahatma Gandhi as an individual and as a political pioneer, however he was likewise greatly wary of
Gandhi s type of patriotism and his moderate natures in regards to the nation s past customs. He never
condemned Gandhi by and by. In the 1938 exposition, Gandhi the Man , he composed: Extraordinary
as he is as a government official, as a coordinator, as a pioneer of men, as an ethical reformer, he is
more excellent than all these as a man, on the grounds that none of these viewpoints and exercises
confines his mankind. They are noticeably propelled and managed

In addition to these general education requirements, a Lakeland College student must reach 120
credits in order to graduate, which can be composed of a mixture of credits within their field and other
electives. The physical education course that I am proposing could fall under the general education
category of Natural Science. This is because students will be learning about their different body
muscles and functions while they are exercising and learning about different diets and healthy habits.
This course could be compared to an introductory anatomy or biology class. Ultimately, the physical
education course would fall under the Exercise Science program, as an elective course. This means

pay of a single professor, and a student employee typically makes minimum wage. These options are
quite cheap compared to hiring an outside trainer or going through the entire process of hiring a new
professor to monitor the class. Basically, the class is no more or less expensive than already existing

Leading Change Is Never Easy
Leading change is never easy. Many individuals want to reach their goals fast, but the process of
change takes time. It needs patience, persistence and learning from mistakes (MarhĂĄnkovĂĄ, 2010). The
centre for the aging needs a change in the activities that take place. Currently, the events that are
scheduled in the center are not serving the purpose they should. The members feel that they do not
personally associate with the events like bingo, trivia, and reading the newspaper. The individuals
need to have a sense of belonging, and the right activities will help them with their socialization. As
the director of activities, I have developed a vision statement for the change that I want to implement

easier job because the patron will be occupied and happy with the new events, which means that the
staff is not so engrossed in what is happening with the patrons.
The theories of aging especially disengagement, modernization, and activity theories emphasize on the
importance of the social aspect in those who are aging (Charles, Carstensen, 2010). The members have
had to change their lives and have lost some roles they used to undertake especially now that they are
at the center. Provision of other social activities means that the individuals can get a replacement for
the roles they have lost by being away from their homes and families (Jin, 2010). These activities will
help establish a positive sense of self because they feel useful, and it usually matters to them that they
can still engage in such activities. The change will ensure that the seniors are able to develop a
positive self concept because they will feel useful. The change will also help them develop a sense of
belonging because they will be engaging in an activity of their choice, which means it is something
they love doing. They will also socialize with each

Analysis Of Howard Zinn s Indians History Of The Us...
History 2112
Critical Analysis Paper #1
Dr. Pitts
James Hamby
Monday Wednesday 8:30pm
Patriot s vs. People s Howard Zinn s, Peoples History of the US and Larry Schweikart s, Patriots
History of the US are two analytical views on history that most people would consider politically
conflicting. Zinn s Marxist book was widely praised by liberal activist and Schweikart s book is
greatly publicized by conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. These two widely known
historians turned their focus on writing two historical pieces that would fill in the historical holes that
weren t being taught in the educational systems. It created a type of diverse learning that made for a
great argument while still allowing the readers to understand all sides of the topics at hand. Zinn really
dismissed the common white mans history and focused his approach on a multiple minority
perspective. Schweikart s book is very different in the sense he takes aim at Zinn as he targets words
like great discovery and war on terror which Zinn only used as scare quotes. Schweikart s book really
reads like old history textbooks from the moral principals of the American founders that built this
nation to the ideological view of American prosperity. No matter who shares the views of the political
perspectives or condemns them because of its bias stances both historians felt responsible in writing
the history of the United States.
Zinn did not believe in an unbiased approach to history

Legalizing Marijuana Argument Analysis
Over time people continue to misunderstand marijuana. Many link it to several adverse effects,
however, the drug can have positive contributions. In 2015, Canadians elected a federal government
that proposed to legalize marijuana after four states, Alaska, Colorado, Washington and Oregon and
the District of Columbia legalized marijuana for recreational purposes. The question, therefore, is why
this is a good move?
Problem statement
At the onset, those who challenge cannabis legalization cite several problems, in particular among the
users. They argue that most of them exhibit a cognitive deficit and up to 15% of users will become
addicted (Leyton, 2016). Also, if one stops using the drug psychomotor impairment and milder
cerebral can persist for heavy users at an average of eleven joints per day for a decade (Bosker et al.,

The question, therefore, would be just how big is this danger? The truth of the matter is that in car
accidents, alcohol and other intoxication have a 10 fold increase while that of marijuana nearly
doubled with cannabis intake. Others associate it with greater schizophrenia (Hickman et al.,2009)
although the magnitude of the effect is small (Gage, Zammit Hickmann, 2013). In fact, the finding
reveals that preventing about 9000 people from the use of cannabis only protect one case of
schizophrenia (Hickman et al., 2009) implying that the effect of marijuana is minimal. More recent
studies reveal that the last thoughts linking it to psychosis reflect more in tobacco use than marijuana
(Gage, Zammit Hickman, 2014). Regarding risks, marijuana ranks eighth out of twenty possible
substances that produce personal problems than MDMA, ketamine, anabolic steroids among other
hallucinogenic drugs compared to amphetamines, cocaine, heroin, alcohol, crack and

Negative Effects Of Technology On Communication
Technology has revolutionized communication and the world like nothing before. The Internet has
given the world a freedom never explored in the past. The Internet has broken communication barriers
to an extreme level. Now day s two people from two different countries can talk or chat without
interactions. Internet has given people the ability to connect forever through social networking. Some
of the biggest world social networking services are Facebook and Twitter. Through technology
communication is made much easier, but the communication with the people that are right next to us
might be getting weak. Technology has its positive and negative impacts on society. It could keep us
informed, but it could also affect anyone s communication life. Even though it s an easy
communication barrier it s being over used by society every day. The Internet has charge everyone and
everything over the years, it has giving us the ability to be informed on a much deeper level. Families
are losing their communication, but not just because of technology. Not everything is positive when it

The Federalist Papers By John Jay
The Federalist Papers
This country and this people seem to have been made for each other, and it appears as if it was the
design of Providence that an inheritance so proper and convenient for a ban of brethren, united to each
other by the strongest of ties, should never be split into a number of unsocial, jealous, and alien
sovereignties. (Jay 1787) This was written by John Jay in one of a collection of 85 essays written by
John Jay, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton known as The Federalist Papers. (Henretta,
Edwards, Self, 2012) The Federalist Papers were written during a time of uncertainty, when a new
nation was attempting to do what no other nation in the world had ever done, set up a government of
the people, by the people and for the people. These essays were influential, well written and published
at a juncture in history where they were needed the most. The Federalists Papers were instrumental to
the ratification of the U.S. Constitution and perhaps some of the most important documents in U.S.
national history for without the Federalists Papers, our constitution and nation would not be what they
are today. The end of the revolutionary war with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783 meant the
great experiment was really about to begin. It really boiled down to a simple question, can man govern
himself? A revolution occurred against the most powerful empire in the world because the founding
fathers believed the answer to be yes . For this to

Currently, concerning PMCs primarily, the US State Department provides oversight to the many
companies that operate across the globe. This is because it is the State Department that assigns these
contracts to said companies in the first place. But if tomorrow the law was changed and PMCs were
allowed to operate in the manner of traditional mercenaries, who would handle oversight then? It
could possibly remain the State Department, or the UN could easily provide oversight for a PMC to
operate as an actual mercenary force. Best case scenario both organizations would work together to
provide oversight. They can provide rules and guidelines for these companies similar to the rules and
guidelines militaries are given when they operate in a war zone. In fact many of these companies and
their contractors are already beholden to the same standards as the military. In his book, Civilian
Warriors, Erik Prince bashes the idea many anti Blackwater groups held to that Blackwater s men
were wild cowboys who shot anything that moved. He disputes this claim by providing the exact rules
on the escalation of force in Iraq, that were handed down by the State Department. The outline for the
use of force, for Blackwater s men, were exactly identical to the rules of engagement given to our
actual soldiers stationed in Iraq

Colic In Horses Essay
Colic in horses is a wide branching term that simply refers to any abdominal pain in horses. It is the
number one medical cause of death in horses and has a wide variety of causes. There are a very wide
variety of gastrointestinal conditions that can cause pain in the abdominal region and for a horse to
colic. About 10 % of horses colic at some point during their lives. One of the biggest problems with
colic is identifying early on if it is going to be life threatening or if it is a mild form. It is very difficult
to distinguish between the two. Colic has a wide array of signs and symptoms but the causes are not as
well known, so it is important to know preventative measures one can do in order to avoid colic in
their horse as well as have an understanding of the horses delicate digestive system. Horses were

The first part where colic is predisposed is in the small intestine, the majority of the small intestine
hangs from a membrane called the mesentery. This membrane is attached to one point in the middle of
the abdomen, this can be visualized by the picture below. Excessive tension in the mesentery causes
abdominal pain and colic.
Another site that is predisposed to colic is the junction of the small and large intestine. This junction is
where the food passes from the foregut to the hindgut and food can easily impact at this joint. Another
part where colic can start is in the large intestine. The large intestine is only connected at two points, at
the beginning where it connects to the small intestine and at the end where it joins the small colon and
leads to the anus. Where the large intestine connects to the small colon is a very narrow and can easily

late 17th and 18th centuries, a powerful movement spread across Europe that fundamentally changed
European society. Widely referred to in hindsight as the Enlightenment, this era in European history
showed a great emphasis on the glory of reason and science, dramatically shifting from the emphasis
on religious doctrine that empowered Europe for centuries. Through this period of Enlightenment,
new ideals were reflected amongst European society. Writers, scholars, and philosophers began

everybody there, By the deep fervor of his heartfelt prayer; He d sigh and weep and sometimes with a
sound, Of rapture he would bend and kiss the ground, And when I rose to go, he d run before, To offer
me holy water at the door. (Molière, Act I, Scene V). Orgon s appreciation for this deep religious
fervor of Tartuffe goes so far that when he returns from his trip, he is more interested in hearing about
how Tartuffe has fared in his absence than the status of his sick wife and his family (Molière, Act I,
Scene IV). The repetition of Orgon s line Ah. And Tartuffe? after every worrisome answer regarding
his family is meant as a comedic tool to cite Orgon s stupidity, as a man who cares more about a
religious homeless man than his own family is truly a fool. While Tartuffe mocks the ignorance and
blind faith some portray following religious

WASP Stereotypes Of Southern Italian Immigrants
The United States was and is widely known as a melting pot . Common belief holds that America
welcomed hopeful immigrants from overseas, and provided them with opportunities that would give
them better lives for themselves and their families. While such a statement is technically true in
general, the issues in regards to prejudice and racism, is where the metaphor weakens for America as a
beacon of hope for immigrants. Many people today believe that Americans have always embraced and
encouraged the melting pot concept. However, WASP stereotypes of immigrants were the driving
force behind the quality of treatment received by immigrant groups. It was the group they hated,
which made it difficult for immigrants to be seen as individuals, let ... Show more content on

They even created shrines within their homes for particular Saints, so they could pray properly in
absence of a church. The church and government gave the Southern Italians deep trust issues when it
comes to institutions and people outside of their family and village. The family became the most
important institution in Southern Italy, and this belief carried over with them to The United States. The
WASPs viewed the Southern Italians opposition to religious institutions as disrespectful and anti
religious. In the eyes of WASPs, the Southern Italians antagonistic attitude towards church was worse
than the fact that they were Catholics. A difference in religion was cause for dislike, but an absence of
religious practices, or so they thought, was immoral.
One of the biggest stereotypes depicting Southern Italians as immoral is the idea that they are all
affiliated with the Mafia. This WASP belief was formed based on a .0025% of truth. An extremely
small population of the Southern Italians engaged in organized crime. However, WASPs believed that
all organized crime was run by Italians, and that all Southern Italians were involved or connected with
the crimes in some way. The Italian way of closeness of family and exclusiveness of anyone who was
not family, helped confirm the WASPs theory of intertwined

Reflection Paper On Anne Frank
I have decided to write my thoughts and experiences, kind of like an Anne Frank thing. Honestly, we
re not all that different, me and her. Listen to me and don t take me the wrong way, I am fully aware
that in all actuality she was in a considerably more intense situation. all it is that I am saying is that
she and I lived a sort of struggle that shares a few similarities with my own. for insistence, we were
both in hiding from a group of dangerous people and were both found. The only real difference is that
I m still alive. yet I suppose there is also, of course, that one other notable difference between the two
of us and our upbringing . Anne was hiding from Nazis because they had a strong hold over a country
of people, weapons, willingness to kill and most immortality ignorant beliefs that can only come from
white supremacy and religion. While I was just finding from my family. Also, there is the fact that she
was sent to a concentration camp when she was found and I m just getting blacked mailed (aka forced)
into going home to the family. Though a part of me believes that I should be given the right to the
assumption that my family is not all that different from a bunch of Nazis. I mean get rid of the white
supremacy and there you have it, my family. Although I suppose that there is quite a few more
difference, for one I understand my sexuality. alright, I may be able to sense that that was a little rude
and Ok, I can now see that I went off the rails and lost my

Reca Protein Analysis
RecA, derived from Escherichia coli, is a multipurpose protein that plays pivotal roles in the three
essential and correlated biological events of homologous recombination, regulation of expression to
unlinked genes due to DNA damage (also known as the SOS response), and mutagenesis. Within this
gamut of processes in which RecA aids, the protein is specifically needed to drive three biochemical
actions: interchanging homologous DNA, processing effector proteins for the SOS induction, and
communicating between mutagenic proteins factors to drive synthesis past DNA lesions. Homologous
recombination, the process in which double stranded DNA split and recombine between segments by
sequence similarity to create new variations of alleles, is facilitated ... Show more content on

The central domain (residues 34 269), containing eight twisted ÎČ sheet strands with coinciding α
helices, holds DNA and ATP binding sites and is structurally similar to ATPase domains in DNA and
RNA helicases. ATP will bind at the phosphate binding loops of this domain, found in many proteins
involved in ATP binding (7). Amino acids lysine and threonine live near this P loop and directly
interact with phosphate groups in ATP. Alongside, two disordered loops named L1 and L2 bind to
ssDNA and the duplex DNA. What is important about L1 and L2 is that because they support one of
the essential functions for RecA in DNA binding, they are highly conserved. Between the α helix G
and L2 boundary lie two glycine residues that give a greater interaction between the positively
charged amine groups of DNA helix and the negatively charged sugar phosphate backbone in DNA

Effects Of Exercise On Brain Health
There is ample evidence to demonstrate that through the normal ageing process alterations to the brain
in structure and function are directly related to cognitive changes (Glisky, 2007). With an increasing
ageing population strategies for prevention of disease and age related cognitive decline are necessary
to improve quality of life and reduce the associated healthcare costs (Australian Government
Productivity Commission [AGPC], 2013). Physical exercise is known to be crucial in maintaining
physiological health; it can also be used as a means of neuroprotection and assist in modifiable risk
factors for improved brain health and subsequent cognitive function. This review will critically
analyse current research into the effects of exercise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smith et al. (2013) took a less studied approach to improving cognitive decline by testing the effects
of aerobic exercise on adults (60 88 years old) already suffering from cognitive impairment. After 12
weeks of moderate exercise there was an improvement of memory and neural efficiency across all
subjects.
As discussed at the Alzheimer s Association International Conference [AAIC] (2012), elderly people
who had reduced cadence, velocity and stride length of just 1.7cm were seen to have greater declines
in cognition, memory and executive function. These gait related restrictions were associated with an
overall smaller brain volume (Bridenbaugh Kressig, 2013). Having reduced mobility results in an
accelerated cognitive decline as being in the same environment regularly provides little stimulus to
keep the mind active. Gait restriction can be improved through physical therapy and although it may
not increase lost brain volume it can assist in reducing the effects of further decline (Patla, 1991).
Due to the inconsistency between studies there is no definitive exercise dosage or type that can aid in
protection against dementia. However, from the evidence provided it suggests that higher levels of
exercise can be used as a neuroprotective mechanism to prevent the onset of

Visual Arts In Latin America And The United States
Many historians agree that graffiti and other related visual arts show life in motion. Tracing the history
of visual arts in both Latin America and the United States, one notes that visual artists have fomented
revolution by altering aesthetic practices and transforming social contexts. One compares modern
graffiti tags and pieces, defined as unauthorized writing or drawing on a public surface, to other visual
art forms such as sketchbook work, prints, murals, and portable frescoes because all illustrate ideas
through writing. Artists have written on the walls of buildings, trains, and many other locations to
advertise their nametags and spread their views of race, politics, religion, gender, and economics

Nancy MacDonald asks why...individuals at certain ages select one masculine identity or discourse
over another? and argues that broader socio economic frameworks influence youth self expression.
The film Wild Style features these subcultural reactions by demonstrating how its graffiti writing
protagonist accedes to external pressures to find a paid job yet desires to pursue his own creative style.
Zoro, the film Wild Style s protagonist, decides to ignore another youth s jeer that he is not man

money from graffiti by creating highly intricate, illegible spray painted works alone. As a young male

desire to make money while resisting macho conflict to make his own creations. Modern graffiti
writers tended to make creative choices within normative bounds in contrast to historic Mexican
painters who rebelled against hegemony based on common

The Battle Of Horse Fights Pit Bull Terriers
Aggressive and/or vicious dogs are beginning to be a serious problem in the United States. With the
rise in dog fights Pit Bull Terriers are viewed in a negative light. When the wrong owner gets a Pit
Bull and withholds food and teaches the dog to fight it makes a very dangerous dog. Pit bulls are
known for their bite strength and fearless personalities. Due to all the negative media, abusive and
neglectful pit bull owners; the pit bull terriers are thought of as vicious and unsafe dogs to be around.
Pit bull terriers are discriminated against due to a misconception of the breed itself.
The name pit bull is slang for American Pit Bull Terrier. There are several variations in the pit bull
name. The name pit bull refers to several breeds such as; American Pit Bull Terriers, Bull Terriers,
Boxer, American Bulldog, Bull Mastiff, Boxer, and American Staffordshire Terriers (Bixler 2 ). In the
early nineteenth century bull and terrier breeds were created in England, but were not recognized by
the AKC until the nineteen thirties. The once loved and admired breed is now feared and threatened in
many areas. This once loved and adored breed is looked upon as a vicious killer. The general vision of
pit bulls are a large stalky frame, cropped ears and tail and with a large head.
The American Pit Bull Terriers were once known for taking care of young children. They are fiercely
protective of their human family. The same breed until the 1970 s was known as America s family
dog. The

Breakdown of Choosing Civility
When approaching meditation as a novice like anything new you begin to categorize and assign key
ideas based on the generalization of the word. One would expect when discussing the topic of
mediation key components would arise to conform to the American Heritage Dictionary definition, a
devotional exercise of contemplation or a contemplative discourse (Heritage, 1982). In such an
exercise as mediation how would a simple subject of civility impact your ability to reflect and
improve on upon yourself? Forni proposes that, as a society we take a new, close look at that
intriguing code of behavior based on respect, restraint and responsibility we call civility (M., 2002,
p.14); with in mind, one can correlate the relationship civility ... Show more content on

Twenty five established rules allowed the doors of comprehension and the ability to personally relate

understanding the ability to practice civility, each rule is also a key component in assimilating how to
improve on your meditation skills; understand what civility and mediation represent, Forni makes a
solid statement that intertwines the two: if anything, these rules may feel like a longcut, since civility
requires work and dedication. But they do offer a path to serenity and contentment (M., 2002, p.41).
Since civility and mediation share multiple common grounds and house a wide variety of rules, three
will be singled out in which I have found, the most beneficial to my own personal growth and
understanding. How often do you find yourself being spoken to in an unkind manner or talked down
to? Everyone at some point is guilty of this at one point or another in their life. Rule six is essentially
addressing this issue, speak kindly. Most people do not realize the significance of verbal
communication and if practiced incorrectly how detrimental it can be to others. Breaking rule six is a
drastic setback in improving your civility skills and can handicap you when it comes to many things.
Forni immediately begins to state, speaking with consideration and kindness is at the heart of civil
behavior (M., 2002, p.65). Without following this key rule

I believe that Thomas Jefferson moved us closer to the nation we set out to be with the Embargo Act
because it helped us progress towards providing for the common defense. During this time France and
Britain were at war but Jefferson wanted to stay neutral with them and continue trade, but when
Britain passed the Order Of Council which states that all ships trading with France had to first pull up
in the British port, pay a duty, and get a license Napoleon Bonaparte, the emperor of France was
angered by this and decided to retaliate and pass the Milan Decree which stated that any ship that
stopped in compliance with the Order Of Council would be treated as a British ship and subjected to

  • 2. An Introductory Course Into Animal Assisted Therapy Essay Through this introductory course into Animal Assisted Therapy, I have learned about the Human Animal Bond, the history of AAT and AAA, the five freedoms, the differences between AAT and AAA, and the various populations in which this therapy responds greatly to. This paper gives a detailed and comprehensive overview of what I have learned from this course and my own perception of how I will incorporate things learned from this course into my everyday life and into my future career in AAT. The HAB, or the Human Animal Bond, is the relationship between human beings and animals. The American Veterinary Medical Associations committee on the Human Animal Bond describes HAB as, a mutually beneficial and dynamic relationship between people and other animals that is influenced by behaviors that are essential to the health and well being of both (Fine, 2015). There are many factors that play into creating a heathy relationship for both the animal and the human. Relationships between animals and humans have to be voluntary, persistent, reciprocal, and built upon trust (Fine, 2015). Humans need to increase their understanding and care for the animal while the animal increases their trust level for the human (Fine, 2015). Three theories that aim to tell us why the HAB exists are social support, the foundation for mental health and healthy functioning, theories of attachment, which explains the human needs of protection (both needing protection and protecting others), and the biophilia ... • 3. Ethics in Business Essay Introduction Ethics in business is important of everyday moral and ethical norms to business. Perhaps, the Ten Commandments from Bible come to mind as an example of morality that still used by many today. These commandments carry concept of being truthful and honest, and try to stay away from theft and greed. An idea of stewardship can be found in the Bible as well as many other religious literatures that can be and have been applied to business. Beside religion, philosophy also carries similar ethical traditions. For example, Plato s main theme of Republic is justice, and Aristotle in his Politics cares model of economic relations, business and trade. Today, Business Ethics is the conduct that businesses carry in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... FACTs of WA MU Washington Mutual Bank, aka WA MU, was organized in September 1889 to help provide funds for rebuilding Seattle after the great fire. Washington Mutual became the largest thrift in the US, and one of its largest banks. From that beginning, Washington Mutual has grown into financial services company that offered services in mortgages, credit cards and retail landings. But if its rise was storied, its fall was spectacular, ending in the largest bank failure in American history to date (The New York Times, 2010). Sadly, Washington Mutual Bank, or WA MU, was seized on Thursday, September 25, 2008. In April 21, 1982, Washington Mutual acquired Murphey Favre, Inc. and Composite Research Management Co. WA MU decided to keep on the firm s executive vice president, Kerry K. Killinger. Kerry was elevated to the position of president in 1988 and chief executive officer in 1990 (The New York Times, 2010). Kerry s leadership brought new strategies to the company. According to The New York Times (2010), in July 1996, Mr. Killinger engineered the purchase of the 158 branch California based American Savings Bank, a $1.4 billion deal that nearly doubled the size of Washington Mutual, instantly making it the third largest American savings and loan. • 4. Analysis Of The Back Of The Turtle By Thomas King The novel The Back of the Turtle by Thomas King is relevant to Canada in both present day and history. Through the setting, characters and theme the story is portrayed in a way that makes it sound like a calamitous prediction for the future of Canada s treasured natural world. Riddled with corporate greed and environmental disaster, the story follows those involved and affected by the catastrophe that destroyed Samaritan Bay. His lifelike characters are tangled with labyrinthine emotions that add another layer of complexity to the story. In my opinion, the novel The Back of the Turtle by Thomas King is a great novel because of the depth of storytelling that the author can achieve, and deserves to be recognised as a Great Canadian Novel . ... Gabriel Quinn, a scientist partially responsible for the destruction of Samaritan Bay and employed by the company Domidion International; attempts suicide in his hometown of Samaritan Bay and ends up saving himself in a bid to save a drowning first nations girl in the water. Much like himself, the girl is struggling in the water, and when he first sees her he describes her as a hand thrust out of the water, then and arm, fragile, a slender branch caught in a flood. . This girl is a symbol of the guilt that weighs Gabriel down, from the disaster that drove out the first nations people and obliterated his hometown. Gabriel meets two other characters, Crisp, a crafty local full of vibrant stories, and Mara, an artist who returned from Toronto to reconcile with her past. The relationships that Gabriel develop with the people in Samaritan Bay when he returns is what, in my opinion, makes the novel as good as it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Fear Of Tyranny Before the year 1787, we were all in fear of tyranny. Thinking things would go back to like they were in England, with the king having complete power over everyone and everything, a group of delegates joined together to help calm these fears. They grouped in the summer of 1787, in the great land of Philadelphia, and wrote everything down. They came up with laws and rules and government ideas and formed it into what we call the Constitution of America (Background Essay). But how did this help keep us from tyranny? Well, in the list of laws, we also had rules for our government and how it would work. They split our government into three branches, the Legislative Branch, the Executive Branch, and the Judicial Branch. Now, these branches work together ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Reasons For Political Violence Occurs It can be challenging to adequately explain why political violence occurs, but several political scientists have created theoretical explanations to help in the process. These explanations include the relative deprivation theory, cultural explanations, structural or institutional explanations, and primordialism. I personally believe that relative deprivation offers the most leverage in explaining why political violence occurs because it takes into account the variance of political violence and shared characteristics across human nature. Primordialism is also known as the ancient hatred argument and is concerned with blood relations between groups of people (Clay Fuller 2016d). This explanation is often used to explain ethnic conflicts in which there is animosity between two or more groups because of their biological makeup. This could potentially be used to help explain why the conflict between the Tutsis and the Hutu occurred in Rwanda during the genocide in 1994. The Hutu and the Tutsi are distinctly different ethnic populations in which the Hutu are short and stout while the Tutsi are taller and generally have lighter skin tones (Marie Utumetsi 2004). These genetic differences amongst the two groups created a society of separation, where in groups and out groups based on how different populations look were created. As a result, it is easy to form relationships between the two groups based on us versus them . There are several downfalls evident in primordialism, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The normal testicle measures three to five centimeters in length, two to four centimeters in width, and three centimeters in anterior posterior measurements prospectively. Each testicle is encapsulated by the tunica albuginea. The support system for the vessels and ducts of the testicle is called the mediastinum. The Epididymis is comprised of three parts, the head, body, and tail. The relative size of the normal epididymis is six to seven centimeters in length. The gland is composed of two lobes that lie on each side of the trachea and is connected centrally by the isthmus. The isthmus overlies the trachea. Surrounding the thyroid are many muscles and vessels. It is important to acknowledge and recognize the surrounding anatomy of the thyroid gland. The average size of each gland found the normal adult is forty to sixty millimeters in length, and thirteen to eighteen millimeters in anterior posterior measurements. The thickness of the isthmus is usually four to six millimeters in thickness. Sonographically, the healthy thyroid appears as medium to high level echoes, with the same echotexture throughout. The superior thyroid artery and vein are found in the superior portion of each lobe, and the inferior artery and vein can be found in the inferior portion of each thyroid lobe. It can be very easy for an untrained sonographer to confuse the esophagus with a thyroid mass. The esophagus can be located usually on the left side. The main cause for nodular thyroid disease is hyperplasia. Whenever hyperplasia causes a relative increase in volume or size to the gland it is then termed goiter. Thyroid cancers are rare, and most biopsies that are performed on nodules are benign. Usually cancerous thyroid nodules will appear homogeneous, hypoechoic, and are typically taller than wide. The appearance of both cancerous and benign nodules can vary from cystic components, calcifications, mixed echotextures, and different echogenicity s. Hashimotos thyroiditis is the most common type of thyroiditis, and is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in North America. • 8. Google, The Co Founder Of Google Report: Google 1. Purpose The IT entrepreneur I ve decided to research on is Larry Page, the co founder of Google. This report covers the purpose of Google as a search engine, the technologies that it uses for its searches, how it managed to beat its predecessors and the hardware that it uses, both old and new ones. The reason why I chose Google is because I ve been using it for a number of years now and I thoroughly enjoy the experience of surfing the web with it. 2. Key Information 1.1 Introduction The idea of Google developed when its founders wanted to organize an infinite amount of information on the web. It was first called Backrub , and later on adopted the name Googol, after a mathematical terminology. The founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin worked on their idea for 3 years before deciding to incorporate it. It officially became a company in the year 1998. Google started off as a search engine, and it maintains its core business until now. The main benefits of having a search engine include quick results for intended searches, as search engines extract information from the web and display in an organized manner. Google quickly became the most popular search engine due to several reasons. Firstly, this is due to speed of delivering search results. Tagore certainly had strongly held religious beliefs (of an unusually nondenominational kind), but he was interested in a great many other things as well and had many different things to say about them. For Tagore it was of the most elevated significance that individuals have the capacity to live, and reason, in flexibility. His mentality to governmental issues and society, patriotism and internationalism, custom and advancement, can all be seen in the light of this belief. Nothing, maybe, communicates his qualities as obviously as a ballad in Gitanjali: Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls; ... ... Tagore was explicit about his disagreement: Tagore s profound antipathy for any dedication to the past that couldn t be altered by contemporary reason stretched out even to the affirmed prudence of perpetually keeping past guarantees. On one event when Mahatma Gandhi went to Tagore s school at Santiniketan, a junior lady got him to sign her signature book. Gandhi composed: Never make a guarantee in flurry. Having once made it satisfy it at the expense of your life. When he saw this passage, Tagore got disturbed. He composed in the same book a short ballad in Bengali such that nobody could be made a detainee everlastingly with a chain of dirt. He happened to close in English, conceivably so Gandhi could read it excessively, Toss away your guarantee in the event that it is discovered to not be right. Tagore had great reverence for Mahatma Gandhi as an individual and as a political pioneer, however he was likewise greatly wary of Gandhi s type of patriotism and his moderate natures in regards to the nation s past customs. He never condemned Gandhi by and by. In the 1938 exposition, Gandhi the Man , he composed: Extraordinary as he is as a government official, as a coordinator, as a pioneer of men, as an ethical reformer, he is more excellent than all these as a man, on the grounds that none of these viewpoints and exercises confines his mankind. The physical education course that I am proposing could fall under the general education category of Natural Science. This is because students will be learning about their different body muscles and functions while they are exercising and learning about different diets and healthy habits. This course could be compared to an introductory anatomy or biology class. Ultimately, the physical education course would fall under the Exercise Science program, as an elective course. Currently, the events that are scheduled in the center are not serving the purpose they should. The members feel that they do not personally associate with the events like bingo, trivia, and reading the newspaper. The theories of aging especially disengagement, modernization, and activity theories emphasize on the importance of the social aspect in those who are aging (Charles, Carstensen, 2010). The members have had to change their lives and have lost some roles they used to undertake especially now that they are at the center. Provision of other social activities means that the individuals can get a replacement for the roles they have lost by being away from their homes and families (Jin, 2010). These activities will help establish a positive sense of self because they feel useful, and it usually matters to them that they can still engage in such activities. History 2112 Critical Analysis Paper #1 Dr. Pitts James Hamby Monday Wednesday 8:30pm Patriot s vs. People s Howard Zinn s, Peoples History of the US and Larry Schweikart s, Patriots History of the US are two analytical views on history that most people would consider politically conflicting. Zinn s Marxist book was widely praised by liberal activist and Schweikart s book is greatly publicized by conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. These two widely known historians turned their focus on writing two historical pieces that would fill in the historical holes that weren t being taught in the educational systems. It created a type of diverse learning that made for a great argument while still allowing the readers to understand all sides of the topics at hand. Zinn really dismissed the common white mans history and focused his approach on a multiple minority perspective. Schweikart s book is very different in the sense he takes aim at Zinn as he targets words like great discovery and war on terror which Zinn only used as scare quotes. Schweikart s book really reads like old history textbooks from the moral principals of the American founders that built this nation to the ideological view of American prosperity. No matter who shares the views of the political perspectives or condemns them because of its bias stances both historians felt responsible in writing the history of the United States. In 2015, Canadians elected a federal government that proposed to legalize marijuana after four states, Alaska, Colorado, Washington and Oregon and the District of Columbia legalized marijuana for recreational purposes. The question, therefore, is why this is a good move? Problem statement At the onset, those who challenge cannabis legalization cite several problems, in particular among the users. They argue that most of them exhibit a cognitive deficit and up to 15% of users will become addicted (Leyton, 2016). (Jay 1787) This was written by John Jay in one of a collection of 85 essays written by John Jay, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton known as The Federalist Papers. (Henretta, Edwards, Self, 2012) The Federalist Papers were written during a time of uncertainty, when a new nation was attempting to do what no other nation in the world had ever done, set up a government of the people, by the people and for the people. These essays were influential, well written and published at a juncture in history where they were needed the most. The Federalists Papers were instrumental to the ratification of the U.S. Constitution and perhaps some of the most important documents in U.S. national history for without the Federalists Papers, our constitution and nation would not be what they are today. The end of the revolutionary war with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783 meant the great experiment was really about to begin. Orgon believes that Tartuffe is a religious man of good spirit, blinded solely on him witnessing how loud Tartuffe prays in church, and how it causes all the eyes in the room to focus on him, He used to come into our church each day, And humbly kneel nearby and start to pray. Orgon s appreciation for this deep religious fervor of Tartuffe goes so far that when he returns from his trip, he is more interested in hearing about how Tartuffe has fared in his absence than the status of his sick wife and his family (Molière, Act I, Scene IV). The repetition of Orgon s line Ah.
