Business Outside Of The United States
Supply chain can be a challenge when doing business outside of the United States, especially in emerging markets such as the BRICS & MIST.
Therefore we felt this was an important criterion in deciding what country to launch our product. In 2014 Unilever invested 194 million dollars in
its production facility in Nigeria. Their decision to invest in Lagos's is no surprise, 99% of the imports and exports in Nigeria are done through
seaports. The seaport is connected to freight trains, allowing companies to deliver their product faster and efficiently. However transporting
packaged goods into Nigeria can serve as a challenge, because the canals are too narrow; which reduces the amount of goods that can be imported.
Also transporting the goods to stores can serve as a challenge due to road conditions being poor and dangerous. If choosing to produce Gourmet
Selects locally, it can pose a threat to our supply chain. Nigeria has been experiencing an outbreak of the bird flu, which has affected millions of
chickens. This poses a threat to our supply chain because eggs are one of our main ingredients. Unilever currently has three manufacturing plants in
South Africa, located in Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Johannesburg. The factories manufacture a range of personal care and food products, such as
ice cream, tea, and margarine spread. The country's logistic infrastructure and ports are very well developed; in fact, 98% of its imports come in
through port terminals. The roads in

The Silk Road And The Silk Road
The silk road was a massive trading system that stretched throughout Eurasia, from China and India, through Central Asia, and into the Middle East
and Europe. From roughly 100 BC to 1500 AD, it served as an important conduit for the world economy. Eastern knowledge and raw material alike
flowed along land corridors, as well as oceanic passages across the Indian Ocean. This was among the first instances of globalization, where cultures
and civilizations intermingled and traded. However, with the destruction of the Mongol and Byzantine Empires in the 1400s, and the rise of the
Ottomans, the silk road decayed and declined. The discovery of the New World was the final straw, as Europe soared to the top of the global
economy. Trade began to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If China manages to repeat this feat in other poor Asian nations, its soft power would increase drastically. While its soft power among Western nations
could increase, this really isn't China's goal. China wants regional influence, and doesn't want to occupy the "world policeman" role that the United
States currently fills. It wants hegemony over Asia. Asian hegemony goes against the interests of three powers: Russia, the United States, and India. We
will start with Russia, who currently is a large player in Central Asia, but is rapidly losing ground to China. The reason behind this is simple. Russia
simply cannot economically compete with Chinese investment. China's economy is several times larger than Russia's. Also, Russia has spent much of
its efforts trying to curtail NATO's expansion and regain some sort of authority in Eastern Europe. Thus, with the success of One Belt One Road, it is
likely that China gains hegemony over Central Asia. The United States, meanwhile, has interests in East Asia. It has allies in Japan, the Philippines,
Taiwan, Vietnam, and South Korea. The America First initiative by the Trump administration, along with Trump's recent trip to Asia, seems to suggest
that Trump has a greater focus on North Korea, with the denuclearization of the peninsula being a top priority. As for Trump's policy with regards to
Chinese hegemony, much remains to be

Bus Train ( Magnetic Levitation Train )
INTRODUCTION
The world today is entirely dependent on various means of transportation for their day to day and hence a more rapid and reliable source of
transportation is must. People today recognizes aero plane as the fastest means of transportation which has its own disadvantages and there were no
other options available till the beginning of the 20th century , but with the development in technology there were other means of transport which came
into action and one of which was the MAGLEV TRAIN (Magnetic levitation train) which are on entirely different level as when compared to our
traditional trains and on the other hand can been compared to aero planes in terms of speed. The recent development of maglev train has made them a
strong contender for the future transportation and there is a lot of scope for development in this technology. The following term paper deals with
working along with the advantages and disadvantages of maglev train.
The train which are levitated suspended, guided and propelled with the help of magnetic forces are called maglev train. These train don't have any
engine as conventional train and for the purpose of motion solely depend on the magnetic force. These train don't have any wheels as well as a result
of which there is no wheel–rail friction and due to which these train can achieve enormous speed and `the fastest train till date is Japanese maglev with
a astonishing speed of 581 km/hr.
The first commercial maglev line made its debut in

The Transportation System
The Transportation System
Transportation accounts for between one–third and two–thirds of total logistics costs; for most firms, it is the most important single element of
logistics costs. Firms and their products' markets are often separated geographically. Transportation increases the time and place utility of products by
delivering them at the right time and to the right place where they are needed. By doing so, the customers' level of satisfaction increases, which is a
key factor for successful marketing.
A comprehensive discussion of transportation is beyond the scope of this text, so we focus here on essential issues of transportation systems, which
are more related to the physical flows of materials.

Hence, variable costs are influenced by both distance and shipment size.
Water
Water carriage–as the oldest mode of transportation–accounts for 5% of total freight ton–miles (around 3.3% of actual tonnage) in the United States.
Sampson et al. describe the nature and characteristics of water carriage as follows:
Water carriage by nature is particularly suited for movements of heavy, bulky, low
–value–per–unit commodities that can be loaded and unloaded
efficiently by mechanical means in situations where speed is not of primary importance, where the commodities shipped are not particularly susceptible
to shipping damage or theft, and where accompanying land movements are unnecessary.
As already mentioned, the majority of commodities transported by water are semi processed and raw materials; thus, water transportation competes
primarily with rail and pipeline. Water carriage can be broken into the following distinct categories:
1. Inland waterways (such as rivers and canals)
2. Lakes
3. Coastal and intercostals oceans
4. International deep sea
Water transportation service is limited in scope, mainly for two reasons: its limited range of operation and speed. Water service is confined to
waterway systems; thus, unless the origin and the destination of movement are located on waterways, it needs to be supplemented by another
transportation mode (rail or motor carrier). In addition, the average speed of water carriage is

Case Study on the California High Speed Rail System Essay
A Case Study on the California High Speed Rail System (CAHSR) – Is It Feasible? By Hardeep Ramesh, MS ISE Engineering Economics (ISE 460)
University of Southern California December 3, 2010 Abstract: California High Speed Rail (CHSR) system is a mega project planned by the
California High Speed Rail Authority (CA HSRA), connecting the major metropolitan areas of California. The project finalized in mid 2000, is
estimated to be one of the most expensive of its kind. It is in the lines of the high speed rail systems existing in France, Japan and China. The cost of
the total project, which will cover around 800 miles, is estimated to be around $45 billion as of 2008. At this time of economic instability and no proper

The capital and operating & maintenance costs are much easily determined using the data available from the data from CA HSRA. Sources of benefits:
1. Intercity passenger revenue; 2. Benefits to both intercity and urban high–speed train passengers (net of fares paid); 3. Reduction of airside delay for
air passengers; 4. Reduction in aircraft operating costs; 5. Reduction of highway delay for both intercity and urban auto trips; and 6. Reduction of
accident and air pollution costs from intercity and urban auto trips. This analysis is done assuming the benefits accrued in the year 2050. The costs are
evaluated from the year 2011 – the proposed time of starting the project, while the benefits are calculated from the year 2020 – the expected time of
launching the project. The estimated streams of benefits and costs occurring each year between 2011 and 2050 were discounted to their present value
and summarized to calculate the benefit cost ratio. The discount rate is a means of calculating a value now of benefits that occur in the future. The
discount rate recognizes the time value of money. A four percent real discount rate is used in the calculations. However, the high
–speed train project
would be economically feasible even under the higher discount rates used by some public agencies and economists. The Internal Rate of Return (IRR)
is an evaluation measure that is

Swot Analysis For Boeing
The Boeing Company SWOT Analysis
1. Strengths
1.1 Global Market Leader
The Boeing Company ("Boeing") has established itself as the global market leader in the commercial airplanes industry. It is also one of the two
manufacturers in the commercial airline industry to manufacture 100+ seat airplanes.
As a global market leader, there exists a strong market demand for Boeing's products. In 2013, it extended its market–share leadership with an industry
record of 648 deliveries, reaching historic highs in delivery totals for the 737, 777 and 787 models. Boeing has also managed to secure an additional
1,355 new net orders in 2013, which extended its record backlog to 5,080 airplanes worth $347 billion . In 2014, Boeing is estimated to have about
43% share of the commercial aircraft market and is currently leading Airbus in the number of new commercial airplane orders .
In addition, Boeing has consistently rejuvenated its existing product lines by improving and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The market liberalization in Europe and Asia is enabling Low–Cost Carriers (LCC) to expand and gain market share, exerting a downward pressure on
airfares. In European Airline industry, the market share of LCC has increased from 17% in 2005 to 23% in 2013 . The LCC capacity on departing
flights grew by 6.8% worldwide from 2012 to 2013. The growth is especially remarkable in the emerging market, with a growth rate of 17.7% in
Middle East and 28.7% in Asia .In order to survive in this competitive environment, many airlines are turning towards drastic cost cutting measures
such as downsizing their fleet size or their planes or cancelling their existing airplane orders. The possible slowdown in global demand and potential
cancellation in orders for commercial aircrafts may hurt Boeing's revenues and profit margins in the long

Right Track Research Paper
The Right Track Every affluent nation throughout the world has invested in a high–speed rail network–with the conspicuous exception of the United
States. In Asian countries, such as China and Japan, an in European countries, such as France and Spain, trains voyage around the country at velocities
over 200 mph–connecting central cities and providing sensible alternative to both air and automobile travel. Concurrently, the American rail network is
restricted to speeds below 150 mph. The debate whether the United State should invest in high–speed railway systems has become a long–driven
unresolved controversy. According to the InfoBase, the supporters argue that the availability of high–speed trains will entice commuters out of their cars,

7.58% of the annual federal funds seems a lot to be allocated just for establishing a high–speed railway system; however, constructing a high–speed
railway system throughout the United States would take a couple of decades to accomplish. This means that the cost of constructing a high–speed
railway system would be divided annually for about 20 years, only taking approximately about 0.38% of the annual federal funds collected from
taxpayers–a minute percentage invested that would massively benefit the citizens of the United States in the future. Another argument of the disputants
is that the construction of a high–speed railways system would only benefit a small portion of the United States population. Their argument could
possibly be true when the high–speed railway system is just newly constructed; however, it is very unlikely to occur. As mentioned above, the
construction of the high–speed railway system would take a couple of decades. The United States high–speed rail network map of the USHSR webpage
shows a chronologically ordered planogram, from the year 2015–2030, that indicates which areas of the nation would the high–speed railways will
consecutively be constructed. The planogram shows that the association plans to primarily construct the high–speed railways within the busiest cities
of the most densely populated states such as California, Florida, Texas, New York, etc. This method is desirable because a substantial amount of people

Essay about Cleaner Alternative Transportation
When people think pollution, most think straight to automobiles producing harmful emissions which contribute to global warming or climate change.
Well, this is true. Motor vehicles account for about half of the toxic air pollutant emissions in the United States. A large part of these toxic air
pollutants is the need to rely on oil as a fuel source. The fact that oil is still the main source of energy for things like automobiles, when there are other
alternatives like electric vehicles, creates many problems within our society. The United States' dependency on oil causes incidents like the Deepwater
Horizon. The estimated amount of oil released stood at 4.9 million barrels and polluted the area significantly. We as a country need to cut

Automobiles have since evolved and become almost a necessity for people. While they have become of major importance, they also hold many
drawbacks to our environment. They are the leading cause of transportation emissions and they generate a majority of America's global warming
emissions. Even though air pollution emissions from motor vehicles have dropped considerably since 1950, Automobiles still produce about 60% of
US transportation emissions and generate nearly 30% of America's global warming emissions (Car Emissions and Global Warming). The average
conventional automobile can be seen as fairly gas inefficient. Compared to a hybrid electric vehicle, conventional cars produce about 1.5 times more
greenhouse gas emissions and costs more in fuel costs. Within a 100–mile trip, conventional vehicles produce about 87 lb CO2, hybrid electric vehicles
produce 57 lb CO2, plug–in hybrid electric vehicles produce 62 lb CO2, and all–electric vehicles produce 54 lb CO2 (see table 1). This shows that
hybrid and electric cars produce less greenhouse gas emissions and costs less for fuel, compared to a conventional pure gas powered vehicle.

A backlog could drive potential customers to Airbus. Opportunities China has a rapidly growing aviation sector from 2600 aircraft to 4500 in the
next five years (GTIN, 2011) Government banned carbon trading schemes, creating demand for more fuel efficient aircraft as a way to save money
(BBC, 2012). Threats Heavy government intervention in the industry could curb growth (BBC, 2012). Competition Not just Airbus, but new
competitors from the world's largest emerging markets like China, India and even Japan (Nolan, 2009). Economy airlines suffer during down
economies and reduce their orders, and the industry has become dependent on the Middle East and Asia in recent years to offset this (Crooks &
Weitzman, 2010). Fast Trains are now providing competition for airlines in China on key routes (Finighan, 2011). The implications of this analysis are
that the focus on the Chinese market is justified. The Chinese air travel industry is booming, and indeed this is fueled by that country's rapid growth

Pros And Cons Of Sina Weibo
INTRODUCTION
Sina Weibo (hereinafter referred as Weibo) is a microblog in China that is akin to a hybrid of Twitter and Facebook . It is one of the most popular
social media platform is China which has 600 million registered users in 2013 and 76.6 million daily users in 2014 . The vast number of users allows
faster and easier communication and information spreading, which then creates social benefits which traditional media did not offer (Chang, 2013).
Weibo has formed a lively virtual public space (Magistad, 2012) where Chinese citizens communicate and which is a main source of immediate news.
This essay explores the influences of Weibo on both international and local scale, as well as the link between the Chinesegovernment and Weibo users

They use Weibo to post their social concerns and comment about government policies. Consistent friction exists between the government and the
citizens over sensitive topics. The government aggressively steps in only when it considers the issue to be potential for social instability. In addition,
the Chinese are more conservative in terms of going against the government as they do not want to risk themselves. Therefore, Weibo is used as a
platform for Chinese citizens to give pressure on the government in hope for better and more transparent governance. Physical social movements are
less likely to happen because of government censorship and the individual's less–willing–to–take–risk attitude. However, the government should not
take this for granted. Consistent suppressing of public voices may harm the government as public anger may eventually burst into uncontrollable
outrage. Thus, the government has to cooperate with the Chinese citizens through Weibo as their resentment reflects the shortcomings of the government

Malaysia And Singapore Bonds
Malaysia and Singapore bonds are unique and idiosyncratic due to factors such as geography, history, politics, culture and ethnicity.1They are
substantial trading partner and their bilateral trade amounted to S$113.4 billion in 2012, up from S$77.2 billion in 2003. The island's investment into
Malaysia has climbed about 25 percent annually over the past three years, according to DBS Group Holdings Ltd.2This increase in trade makes
quintessential the need to enhance economic linkages between the two countries and the High Speed Rail (HSR) project presented an opportunity to
open up and rejuvenate smaller cities in Peninsular Malaysia by connecting them to the two major metropolises. The HSR is an efficient and safe
mode of transport which results in dramatic travel time savings. We will firstly analyse the cost and benefits of the HSR and we will try to discuss if
the value of the project outweigh the MYR 40 billion construction cost. Traffic between the two countries through the Causeway and Second Link is
estimated at 400,000 crossings both ways daily, and Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore figures show that an average of 7,500 people left Singapore
for Malaysia daily by air last year, of which, say experts, about 6,000 were headed to Kuala Lumpur.3 This will mean that an extra 100000 commuters
will be able to travel in both direction daily. The economic and social benefits derived from the agglomeration of 2 cities bring about a huge

Marketing Orientation : Marketing And Marketing
A wide range of companies today prefer to adopt the marketing orientated approach to sell their new products rather than using product orientation
before. In fact, marketing orientation also helps such companies to earn more profits in the long time.According to Jobber and Ellis Chadwick
(2013),marketing orientation focuses on customers need as the primary drivers of organizational performance. However, this is not always the
case.Product orientation still be used by some senior executives and this method can help these companies to sell more products and even acquire
reliable reputation in the customers. In this essay, first the history of marketing concept development will be discussed and the specific definition of the
two kinds of marketing concept will be given respectively. Then these two concepts will be compared by using some examples. The final part will
investigate why although marketing orientation is very popular in modern society, some enterprises still adopt the product orientated approach to
extend their new products. After Industrial revolution, due to the fact that demand exceed supply and little competition and the range of products was
limited, most companies in that time chose to focus on physical production and supply ( Brassington and Pettitt ,2013).It was product orientation and
companies didn't need to consider their customers' need at that time and just made their effort to improve the efficiency of production. In the final,

The Effects Of Environmental Impacts On The Environment
When it comes to our environment in today's day and age, citizens only seem to see it becoming worse and worse. In fact, most would even say that the
world is beyond saving with all of the impact greenhouse gases and the human way of living is destroying our ecosystems. But that couldn't be further
from the truth! Today, we have plenty of efforts in place attempting to reduce, and hopefully reverse, the negative effects on our environment. The
transportation industry, one of the largest contributors to CO2 emissions, is no exception.Amtrak, being the number one passenger rail system in
America, is making it an active goal to help preserve our planet. For instance, Amtrak pays close attention to the level of carbon emissions that it
contributes on both a personal and overall scale. Just by traveling on Amtrak, instead of various other options, you are choosing a mode a
transportation that contributes less greenhouse gases. Amtrak states that by riding on it instead of say a car or plane, there is as much as a thirty
percent increase in energy efficiency. Amtrak also offers CO2 offsets by allowing passengers to "buy back" the amount of greenhouse gases that they
personally added as a natural result of their travel. Through a partnership with Carbonfund.org, Amtrak has created a tool called the Rail Calculator
which calculates the amount of carbon emissions generated by the passenger's rail travel based on the distance that they traveled and then compiles a
price that the

Along with hover boards and flying cars, high–speed rail is one of the most iconic futuristic technologies discussed today. With great success, European
and Asian countries such as Germany, France, Japan and China have been enjoying bullet trains for decades. Japan has been a leading innovator of
high–speed trains, and has currently developed a train capable of 315 mph (Shadbolt). This MagLev is revolutionizing public transport and changing
how the world view trains forever. The average European high–speed train can travel at speeds in excess of 220 mph ("The 10"). The United States is

Unfortunately, California still has not started the construction of their high–speed rail project, but this shows, early in the development of the project,
that high–speed rail will create a plethora of jobs. While there are a limited number of spots in the grant (Mumma), "But there will be thousands of
jobs that we need to get people ready for," Eager added" (Sheehan). Lee Ann Eager is the executive director of the Fresno County Economic
Development Corp, and while being interviewed by Sheehan, she states that there will be many more job opportunities available once construction
begins, and then once the system is up and running, there will be thousands of jobs that need to be created to keep the rail system up and running
safely and efficiently. A maintenance station for example, could house around 1,500 permanent jobs, and also be a magnet to further development for
high–speed rail, which will in turn create more jobs. Jobs for the construction of new power plants needed to power the high–speed rail system will
also be available, as well as the jobs created to maintain and use the power plant. With the need for more environmentally friendly ways of creating
electricity, more companies will need to be created to build and provide maintenance for these new plants, and also for research for better ways of
utilizing the different renewable energies. All of these factors mean more and more

High Speed Rail ( Hsr )
Abstract High speed rail (HSR) is a rapidly expanding new transport mode all over the world and is often described as the "transport mode of the
future". This paper discusses definitions of high speed rail, provides an overview of high speed rail development in selected other countries and
regions. It then analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of HSR in several different aspects, such as mobility, choice, environmental, safety,
cost and regional feasibility. Based on the opportunities presented by these features of HSR to learn, the article will provide recommendations and
conclusions regarding to the future development of HSR. Introduction What is High Speed Rail? Although there is no universal and authoritative
speed definition for High Speed Rail (HSR), the threshold can be found in many administrations or official organizations. For instance, the
European Union defines HSR as: Separate lines built for speeds of 250 kilometers per hour (kph) (150 mph), or Existing lines upgraded to speeds
of 200 kph (125 mph), or Upgraded lines whose speeds are constrained by circumstances such as topography or urban development. High Speed Rail
in the World The world's first high speed rail line, between Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, was built in time for the 1964 Olympics. Known as the
Shinkansen, or bullet trains, this high speed rail travels across the country at speeds up to 185 mile per hour, expending the traffic capacity on
overcrowded rail lines. Soon After, Italy and

Looking at the California high speed rail project truly has shocked the public and makes them wonder if this is a great plan for California's
environment. "The current plan will connect San Francisco with Los Angeles cutting a six hour car ride down to two hours and forty
minutes"(Souza, 2011). The train running through Kings County will take out many dairies and cut even more in half. Making these cuts will be

Conclusion
If this high speed rail in California is built the school system will be at its bare minimums, will devastate the future of California's agriculture
industry, furthermore it will not produce long term steady jobs to boost the economy. Americans always want bigger and better things or the fast
paced life style. Is it better to have luxury when the state is at a time in crisis and can barely afford to stay running? Sometimes people rush into
things just because it is new or seems like a great idea. When voting for this high speed rail to come ripping through the heart of California Americans
need to think about the future and what is at stake. Schools keep students educated so they could go out and be successful person, agriculture feeds
California and produces jobs that feeds workers families. California is a great state and should not be torn apart by a train.

leadership has realized the need to upgrade the rail system in order to connect the less developed, but resource rich, northern and western parts of the
economy with more prosperous manufacturing centers in the East. This will foster development outside the coastal provinces.

How Do Cities Change Throughout China
throughout China. "An expansive new infrastructure grid–– which includes a 13,000 kilometer high–speed rail network, over 60,000 kilometers of new
highways, and nearly a hundred new airports–– was spread over the country." (Shepard) Unlike Kibera, China has rapid urban development. They are
taking farmland, and turning it into cities. While more than 50% of the world's population will be living in Chinese cities, the government has been
working to make sure that the country's cities are going to be long–term. "By 2030, Chinese cities will be home to more than 1 billion people– or up to
70% of the population. This rapid pace of urbanization has required some innovative plans in China. Local, regional and national policy– makers and
planners are working to ensure the long– term sustainability of the country's cities." (Myers)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mass transit can help reduce the amount of emissions that are released into the air from cars. It will also help with the amount of congestion on the
highways. Having less people on the highways would have people getting to work faster, both those who are go on mass transit and those who are
driving their car. Some challenges to mass transit is that some people are too far out from mass transit lines. People who live out in the country do not
live near train stations or bus stops. Or sometimes bus stops do not go near someones work. Another mass transit problem that Connecticut has, is that
there are no subways. Besides that bus system, there is CT Fast Trak, which only stops in a few areas in

World wide learning– Adtranz would gain the managerial and corporate structure of Bombardier Transportation, which could ensure the stability of
Adtranz in Bombardier Transportation. Problem There is no defined organizational structure, corporate culture or strategies in place for the new
conglomerate corporation of Bombardier Transporation and Adtranz. Analysis As a result of Adtranz changing ownership every couple of years, their
facility and staff were a collection of multiple companies which were located through out the continent. With Adtranz's unstable ownership history, they
did not have enough time to develop a long term corporate culture. Even though Bombardier Transportation recognized potential in the organizational
form of Adtranz, Bombardier Transportation did not do further research to establish what steps should be taken in order to ensure which management
practices would most likely work and best suit the conglomerate. Strategy for developing the organizational structure of the new Bombardier
Transportation had not been determined prior to the acquisition which may have revealed further barrier's to Bombardier Transportation's success.
Attitudes and values of the public and the government differ considerably from country to country. Solution Used Establishing an effective corporate
culture for the new conglomerate is essential to Bombardier Transportation's success. Pierre

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Rail Mode
Rail mode is the mode of transport which has the highest passenger capacity and cargo capacity; out of all the modes of land transport available
such as bus mode, private vehicle mode, motor bike mode, bicycle mode, etc. The total number of passengers or the total volume of cargo rail mode
can carry at any given time is very high compared to any other mode of land transport available. And not only the total capacity, but also the unit
capacity of rail mode is very high compared to any other mode of land transport. Therefore sometimes, rail mode may be the only mode of land
transport which can cater the transportation of project cargo and over dimension cargo.
Rail mode is also the mode of transport which has the highest speed and the longest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A higher portion of the government workers uses rail mode in their office travel. And at the same time, there's a large portion of the rail users which
consists of students and teachers. Many of the school students and university students together with school teachers and university staff use rail mode
in their daily travel. The main reason for that is the convenience of the season ticket. But still even without the season ticket, it would be the best option
for mode of transport for them.
This research basically focuses on the rail mode from a point of "Accessibility" view as it is one of the most important factors which the passengers
take in to consideration in their modal choice for transportation. Even though the railway mode has so many advantages as a land transport mode than
the other modes of land transport and even though rail modeis the best solution for many of the existing problems relating to land transport as
mentioned above, but still the accessibility is an existing problem in the rail mode itself and that problem is considered as a disadvantage in the rail

It can reach high speeds and operate quickly because its bullet shaped design takes down on some air resistance (force of air pushing against the
train) (Stiefel, How a maglev works). Instead of it having a flat design where air resistance is higher, the bullet design, which isn't flat, lets the train
have a lower air resistance, its bullet design, making it go faster than normal trains. It is built with lightweight materials like fiberglass and
aluminum (not steel), and it is not limited by friction from the wheels on the track which would slow down normal trains. This gives you a
smoother ride (Stiefel, How a maglev works; Britcher 55). There is almost no sound from the train because it has about a 1 in. gap and doesn't touch
the track (Quain 88). It can reduce congested roads and highways and could cut a 4 hour trip to a 1 hour trip (Amtrak vs. Maglev) (Stiefel, Mighty

Life In A City Is Better Than Living In The City
Kimi иѓЎеЉј No. 0210650 12/30/10 Persuasive Essay (Revised) Life in Cities is of More Quality in China In recent years, people have paid close
attention to the quality of daily life a lot, and one of the most heated debating topics is whether people should choose to live in the city or in the
countryside in China. There are millions of peasants living in rural areas, but a large number of them are rushing into urban areas to get a job every
year. People living in the countryside are anxious to begin their urban life, meanwhile people in cities prefer to live a peaceful life far away from town.
As for me, in China, living in the city is much better than living in the countryside in that citizens would surely live a more convenient life, have
more choices in every aspect of life and would also achieve a sense of accomplishment in their enriching life. Since some areas of countryside in
China are still in poor situation, cities offer people a more comfortable and convenient life. In some suburban regions, it is troublesome to go out, but
the transportation system in almost every city in China is quite developed now. Citizens could choose different vehicles as they wish in cities, such as
car, bus, metro and even high speed railway. People living in Wuhan in central region of China could reach Guangzhou in South China by high speed
rail within several hours, in which period people living in rural areas may just get to town from home. In cities, people could enjoy the door–to–door
transport service easily meanwhile going out is quite an inconvenient action for many people living in suburban in China. This sort of obvious
contrast can be seen by everybody. Besides the aspect of transportation, there are more plentiful living facilities in cities than in the countryside. As a
whole, the infrastructure in most cities in China is of high quality. The systems of medical treatment, health care, physical training, etc are available
for citizens to make use of to keep their life quality in a high level. Once citizens have a problem in daily life, there are often corresponding ways for
them to solve it. While in the most areas of countryside in China, there is still even a lack of medical security now. Living in the city

Fiat Launches Cars in China: A Global Marketing Strategy

FIAT launches FIAT cars in China
Introduction
Global competition in all industry especially the automobile increases every time. Since 2009, China has become the world's largest automobile
producer with an annual sale of over 14 million vehicles. This means it had surpassed Japan's previous records since by 2010 the government had
focused their records to over 17 million. This growth has been elevated by the high demands due to the rising incomes. The middle class has advanced
its status through the help of the supportive industry policies from Chinese government (Keith 2012). This is why there was a need to introduce the
FIAT cars into the ChineseAutomobile Industry. The Chinese automobile industry has been disjointed for long. Also, the Chinese Central Government
fears that the unrestrained expansion of this industry by the local authority may damage the broader economy. This means excess capacity would need
to be stopped. That is why the Chinese government has continued to push for mergers and acquisitions in the vehicle industry in order to support the
emerging of fewer leading companies. FIAT is one of the corporations that should be well thought–out due to the popularity of its production.
Purpose of expansion FIAT cars have excellent performance on the road and its consumption is moderate. The Cars are good for domestic use
consequently the reason for expanding it to China where domestic use has expanded tremendously. China

A Study of the Trans–Texas Corridor and How it Affects Texans
Everything is bigger in Texas. That's what a lot of Texans what Americans and people around the world to know– you don't mess with Texas. In the
1950's, when President Eisenhower created the first Interstate plan for the country and implemented new roads in almost every single state, it was the
largest engineering feat in the modern world. Now, almost half a century later, GovernorRick Perry is set to break that record, with the costliest, largest,
and most incredible–sized proportion Texas Trans–Corridor, dubbed the "Texas Superhighway," a 4000 mile, $175 billion dollar project that won't be

Laredo contains 40% of the United States land–ship import traffic. Also, any traveler on the I–35 corridor in Texas runs into hundreds of
eighteen–wheelers, increasing drivers awareness and causing disarray for drivers who are trying to see the road in front of them. Perry's answer is to
shift the traffic away from metropolitan areas. If truck drivers can bypass San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas, the time to their destination would probably
save them an entire day in travel. Freight rail services could veer away from San Antonio's railroad yard, an institution bustling with activity in the wee
hours of the morning. Also, commuter rail can solve environmental problems and help families keep in touch anywhere in the state without the
over–burdening costs of driving (Perry). Perry's plan begins with the setup itself: Six, twelve–foot vehicle passenger lanes in which the vehicle can
travel at 80 miles per hour; Four, thirteen foot truck lanes; Two tracks for each of the following railroad establishments– high speed rail, commuter
rail, and freight rail. No transportation facility exists like this in the modern world. All of these integrations to modern society are completely bundled
into one, and their concept is all the same – relieve traffic in urban centers and create a safe and enjoyable experience through the Texas countryside
without interruption

5 Ages of Hospitality
HM–1800| The Five Ages Of Tourism | |
Introduction: The 5 Ages of Tourism In our current era, travel requires nothing more than a computer and a couple hundred dollars in the bank.
Anyone can simply get on a computer and buy a ticket for the next day to go anywhere in the world he or she wants. Travel has never been faster or
more convenient as it is today, and that convenience is what leads to tourism. Tourism is the largest industry in the world when all of its subgroups are
combined; it is difficult to come up with one definition for tourism, but it can be looked at as: The commercial organization and operation of vacations
and visits to places of interest, or as listed by the World Tourism Organization: a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ford's invention the assembly line made it possible for him to mass produce Model –T at a cheap rate. In 1908 the first Model–T debuted at $825, and
4 years later dropped to 575. These extremely economical prices turned the automobile from a luxury item to a staple in American society. People
were now allowed to travel at will anywhere they wanted, perpetuating the tourism industry more than any other age. Road side Inns, resorts and
attractions specifically for tourist increased tremendously after the mass ownership of automobiles. After conquering all forms of ground travel, man
had some ambitions to take to the sky, thus came the Jet Aircraft Age. Wilbur and Orville Right were the first people to take flight, but their invention
was not directly correlated with the commercial flight seen today. Two engineers, Frank Whittle of the United Kingdom and Hans von Ohain of
Germany, developed the jet engine during the late 1930s. The first jet engine powered commercial airliner was introduced by the British Overseas
Aircraft Corporation (BOAC); the 36–seat plane named Comet, flew for the first time on July 27, 1949. With the invention of jet aircrafts, exotic
resorts can be made accessible, business can be made international, and cheap rates make it easy for the average citizens to explore the world. The last

Train 's Journey And Transportation
train's journey and that why a lot of regional trains and international passenger trains have food service cars and sleeping cars along with the passenger
cars.
Since the 40s of the 20th century, the number of railway passengers in many of the industrial cities has declined, and that's because of the increased
demand and the use of cars and planes. However Railway systems are the most common means of travel by passengers in general in Japan and
Switzerland.
Shipping and cargo trains:
Most of the income of the Railway systems in many countries from transporting and shipping goods as shipping goods through railways for long
distances is cheaper than any other shipping method of land transportation. It can be stated that shipping trains in the past Soviet Union transported the
largest amount of goods in the world, and then comes in the second place the United States then China. Company trains also transport a lot of goods, as
each train holds and transports the products and goods of its own company.
4.1. Benefits of train systems
Dependable – The best preferred standpoint of the railroad transport is that it is the most tried and true method of transport as it is the slightest
influenced by climate conditions, for example, downpours, haze and so on contrasted with different methods of transport.
Better Organized – The rail transport is more organized than whatever other type of transport. It has settled courses and timetables. Its administration is

Developing Technology And Integrated Hsr System
China, by far, has the largest existing HSR network, followed by Japan, France, Spain and Germany. China also has the most ambitious expansion
plans, with the most kilometers of lines currently under construction and the most planned. Spain is also undergoing an HSR construction and planning
boom, with France and Turkey also notably having ambitious HSR expansion plans.
If it is assumed that expansion proceeds as planned, in the next few decades, China will have the largest HSR network, with Spain and France in a
distant second and third, both surpassing Japan in total system size. Overall, Japan has the most developed and integrated HSR system, being the first

France has the fastest tested time for a non–maglev, steel–wheeled train, at 574 km/h. It is a matter of history that H Neuvon, who was a member of the

associated with the Indian Railways in introducing the Rajdhani Express trains. While IR is still stuck at the 1964 determined 130 kmph restriction, the
Japanese have already migrated to double the speed already.
China, while being a newcomer to HSR, has very rapidly expanded its HSR system and has some of the most ambitious plans, by far, of any country
for HSR expansion within the country and across the entire Asian continent. In contrast, the United States as a whole has only just recently, with the

Mezcala Bridge Research Project The considerations of the bridge for the high speed rail coming through the a.v. is when designing high speed rail
to the antelope valley. The considerations are is that the kids or young adults of the antelope valley area are able to go to colleges in san diego and
back home to the AV in the matter of just minutes. Thebridge is to get over the highway to get to L.A. so they will be less traffic to L.A. There are
some things that we also need to know that we just need to know if it cost just enough.
The Mezcala Bridge or Mezcala Solidaridad is the thirteenth largest bridges in the world. The location of the bridge are in the state of Guerrero in
Mexico on Highway 95. The beginning of the Mezcala Bridge was started at 1989 and with a total length of 891 m (2,923 ft) and six uneven spans
completed in 1993. Being in service since 1994, no major disasters has touched the bridge's existence. The bridge still stands as strong as the day it
was build.
This cable– stayed bridge spans across the Balsas River known locally as the Mezcala River close to the western Pacific coast of the country. The
name of the bridge is obviously related to the river it hovers. It is located at 221 kilometers of the Autopista del Sol connecting to the city of

Logistics Strategy And Components Of Japan And China
Nowadays, logistics companies are becoming significantly vital in our world and it has a major role within the economy. However, any logistics
company should set logistics strategies in order to achieve their goals and there are many logistics and supply chain strategies that companies can make.
Therefore, this report will firstly define the logistics strategy and then explain how the car making components comes into the United Kingdom from
Far East particularly Japan and China. Consequently, will demonstrate what modes of transport used in order to bring car making components such as,
body parts, steering and chassis parts, interior furnishing and wheels and tyres.
Then, it will determine the best transport modes which is cost effective and time efficient. Eventually, will analyse the advantages and disadvantages of
using each modes of transport and illustrate storages and warehouses for these products.
2 Logistics strategy and components from Japan and China.
Generally, logistics strategy has three different goals such as, cost reduction, capital reduction and service improvement. Firstly, the cost reduction is
strategy which is minimising the variable costs associated with storage and movement and the great strategy is formulated by estimating different
courses of action, such as, choosing between different warehouse locations or selecting between different modes of transport. However, the main goal
is still to achieve maximum profit. Secondly, capital reduction

Emergence of China as the Leading Economic Power
The article chosen is an informative demonstration of how China has emerged as a leading economic power. In just a few short years China has
managed to position itself as a manufacturing leader in many of the industries that are most heavily needed by the other nations throughout the world.
How China has done this is a remarkable story and provides a compelling reason for choosing an article about their success as a topic for this paper.
The article not only highlights China's success but also provides insight into how China is becoming a partner in the world economy much like the
United States did in the 50s and 60s and how readily the rest of the world is accepting China's participation. China is utilizing its position as an
emerging nation and the availability of inexpensive labor to leverage itself against other competitors. As an example, for several decades the Japanese
high speed train industry has been the standard for excellence. China, however, has openly established itself as a viable alternative and is not only
actively building its own high speed train system connecting all the major Chinese cities they are also aggressively pursuing business with other
nations throughout the world, including the United States, who are considering the building of a high speed train system. In doing so, China is
demonstrating ingenuity and imagination by demonstrating to American decision makers its willingness to consider a variety of options not only in

Analysis Of The California High Speed Rail Authority
Criticism Financial Uncertainty It can be seen that a comprehensive financing plan is lacking from the state and the Authority. The proposed bonds
would be insufficient for Phase 1 alone putting the rest of the project away from consideration. There is very little clarity on the potential matching
funds to be available from federal and local governments. The reliability on private investors for capital funds is questionable approach. The
California High Speed Rail Authority has received cautions from the state Senate Transportation and Housing Committee regarding the availability of
matching funds for High Speed Rail construction. Most importantly the advisor of the California High Speed Rail Authority, Lehman Brothers has
described the risks that are capable of restricting private investment in the project. These risks include cost overruns, doubt on ridership and revenue
projections and political meddling. The Legislative Analysts Panel also published an article in 2011 pointing out the huge difference in the proposed
and actual availability of funds. As per the Due Diligence Report of 2008, "It appears unlikely that sufficient private and public subsidy funding will
be found to finance the complete HSR plan. As a result, it is more likely that the system will either be built only in part or not at all. Moreover, claims
of profitability could not conceivably be true under even the most optimistic assumptions." Although the current focus is on initial capital costs, there

report further states that the positive impacts of implementing the California High Speed Rail are compared to other international High Speed Rails
that have shown
What Is HSR? When Was the HSR Authority Created and What's its Purpose?
The California High Speed Rail, nearly identical to China's High Speed Rail, is a high speed rail system that will extend from San Francisco to Los
Angeles, and eventually extend to San Diego to Sacramento. The California ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Europe, the High Speed Rail, or Eurail, has tracks covering twenty–eight countries. Other countries like China and Japan also have established a
High Speed Rail Line. The benefits of having the Eurail is the quick and convenient traveling from country to country, as well as being
environmentally friendly. But, just like the California High Speed Rail line, costs billions of dollars. But, European citizens are more in favor of the
High Speed Rail line because of the reduced travel time that promotes further economic stability and growth by an increase of "business and customer
relations". Most European citizens see the costly High Speed Rail line as a short–term liability, and foresee it improving the economy in the long–run.
Down below is a detailed map of operational High Speed Rail tracks in Europe. The first High Speed Rail, or Bullet Train, was created in 2008 that
connected from Beijing to Shanghai. It accelerates to an estimated 300 km/hr. which makes a ten–hour trip from Beijing to Shanghai to forty–eight
minutes. This created a lot of excitement as people could travel long distances in a short amount of time, which made business meetings for Chinese
citizens palpable and convenient. Originally only a 1,318km–long rail line, is now over 9,000km long in China. For countries like China, the Bullet
Train was inevitably needed due to the choking pollution that, literally, clouds up China. Because of severe

Business Outside Of The United States

  • 1. Business Outside Of The United States Supply chain can be a challenge when doing business outside of the United States, especially in emerging markets such as the BRICS & MIST. Therefore we felt this was an important criterion in deciding what country to launch our product. In 2014 Unilever invested 194 million dollars in its production facility in Nigeria. Their decision to invest in Lagos's is no surprise, 99% of the imports and exports in Nigeria are done through seaports. The seaport is connected to freight trains, allowing companies to deliver their product faster and efficiently. However transporting packaged goods into Nigeria can serve as a challenge, because the canals are too narrow; which reduces the amount of goods that can be imported. Also transporting the goods to stores can serve as a challenge due to road conditions being poor and dangerous. If choosing to produce Gourmet Selects locally, it can pose a threat to our supply chain. Nigeria has been experiencing an outbreak of the bird flu, which has affected millions of chickens. This poses a threat to our supply chain because eggs are one of our main ingredients. Unilever currently has three manufacturing plants in South Africa, located in Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Johannesburg. The factories manufacture a range of personal care and food products, such as ice cream, tea, and margarine spread. The country's logistic infrastructure and ports are very well developed; in fact, 98% of its imports come in through port terminals. The roads in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Silk Road And The Silk Road The silk road was a massive trading system that stretched throughout Eurasia, from China and India, through Central Asia, and into the Middle East and Europe. From roughly 100 BC to 1500 AD, it served as an important conduit for the world economy. Eastern knowledge and raw material alike flowed along land corridors, as well as oceanic passages across the Indian Ocean. This was among the first instances of globalization, where cultures and civilizations intermingled and traded. However, with the destruction of the Mongol and Byzantine Empires in the 1400s, and the rise of the Ottomans, the silk road decayed and declined. The discovery of the New World was the final straw, as Europe soared to the top of the global economy. Trade began to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If China manages to repeat this feat in other poor Asian nations, its soft power would increase drastically. While its soft power among Western nations could increase, this really isn't China's goal. China wants regional influence, and doesn't want to occupy the "world policeman" role that the United States currently fills. It wants hegemony over Asia. Asian hegemony goes against the interests of three powers: Russia, the United States, and India. We will start with Russia, who currently is a large player in Central Asia, but is rapidly losing ground to China. The reason behind this is simple. Russia simply cannot economically compete with Chinese investment. China's economy is several times larger than Russia's. Also, Russia has spent much of its efforts trying to curtail NATO's expansion and regain some sort of authority in Eastern Europe. Thus, with the success of One Belt One Road, it is likely that China gains hegemony over Central Asia. The United States, meanwhile, has interests in East Asia. It has allies in Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, and South Korea. The America First initiative by the Trump administration, along with Trump's recent trip to Asia, seems to suggest that Trump has a greater focus on North Korea, with the denuclearization of the peninsula being a top priority. As for Trump's policy with regards to Chinese hegemony, much remains to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Bus Train ( Magnetic Levitation Train ) INTRODUCTION The world today is entirely dependent on various means of transportation for their day to day and hence a more rapid and reliable source of transportation is must. People today recognizes aero plane as the fastest means of transportation which has its own disadvantages and there were no other options available till the beginning of the 20th century , but with the development in technology there were other means of transport which came into action and one of which was the MAGLEV TRAIN (Magnetic levitation train) which are on entirely different level as when compared to our traditional trains and on the other hand can been compared to aero planes in terms of speed. The recent development of maglev train has made them a strong contender for the future transportation and there is a lot of scope for development in this technology. The following term paper deals with working along with the advantages and disadvantages of maglev train. The train which are levitated suspended, guided and propelled with the help of magnetic forces are called maglev train. These train don't have any engine as conventional train and for the purpose of motion solely depend on the magnetic force. These train don't have any wheels as well as a result of which there is no wheel–rail friction and due to which these train can achieve enormous speed and `the fastest train till date is Japanese maglev with a astonishing speed of 581 km/hr. • 4. The Transportation System The Transportation System Transportation accounts for between one–third and two–thirds of total logistics costs; for most firms, it is the most important single element of logistics costs. Firms and their products' markets are often separated geographically. Transportation increases the time and place utility of products by delivering them at the right time and to the right place where they are needed. By doing so, the customers' level of satisfaction increases, which is a key factor for successful marketing. A comprehensive discussion of transportation is beyond the scope of this text, so we focus here on essential issues of transportation systems, which are more related to the physical flows of materials. Transport Modes and Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, variable costs are influenced by both distance and shipment size. Water Water carriage–as the oldest mode of transportation–accounts for 5% of total freight ton–miles (around 3.3% of actual tonnage) in the United States. Sampson et al. describe the nature and characteristics of water carriage as follows: Water carriage by nature is particularly suited for movements of heavy, bulky, low –value–per–unit commodities that can be loaded and unloaded efficiently by mechanical means in situations where speed is not of primary importance, where the commodities shipped are not particularly susceptible to shipping damage or theft, and where accompanying land movements are unnecessary. As already mentioned, the majority of commodities transported by water are semi processed and raw materials; thus, water transportation competes primarily with rail and pipeline. Water carriage can be broken into the following distinct categories: 1. Inland waterways (such as rivers and canals) 2. Lakes 3. Coastal and intercostals oceans 4. International deep sea
  • 5. Water transportation service is limited in scope, mainly for two reasons: its limited range of operation and speed. Water service is confined to waterway systems; thus, unless the origin and the destination of movement are located on waterways, it needs to be supplemented by another transportation mode (rail or motor carrier). In addition, the average speed of water carriage is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Case Study on the California High Speed Rail System Essay A Case Study on the California High Speed Rail System (CAHSR) – Is It Feasible? By Hardeep Ramesh, MS ISE Engineering Economics (ISE 460) University of Southern California December 3, 2010 Abstract: California High Speed Rail (CHSR) system is a mega project planned by the California High Speed Rail Authority (CA HSRA), connecting the major metropolitan areas of California. The project finalized in mid 2000, is estimated to be one of the most expensive of its kind. It is in the lines of the high speed rail systems existing in France, Japan and China. The cost of the total project, which will cover around 800 miles, is estimated to be around $45 billion as of 2008. At this time of economic instability and no proper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The capital and operating & maintenance costs are much easily determined using the data available from the data from CA HSRA. Sources of benefits: 1. Intercity passenger revenue; 2. Benefits to both intercity and urban high–speed train passengers (net of fares paid); 3. Reduction of airside delay for air passengers; 4. Reduction in aircraft operating costs; 5. Reduction of highway delay for both intercity and urban auto trips; and 6. Reduction of accident and air pollution costs from intercity and urban auto trips. This analysis is done assuming the benefits accrued in the year 2050. The costs are evaluated from the year 2011 – the proposed time of starting the project, while the benefits are calculated from the year 2020 – the expected time of launching the project. The estimated streams of benefits and costs occurring each year between 2011 and 2050 were discounted to their present value and summarized to calculate the benefit cost ratio. The discount rate is a means of calculating a value now of benefits that occur in the future. The discount rate recognizes the time value of money. A four percent real discount rate is used in the calculations. However, the high –speed train project would be economically feasible even under the higher discount rates used by some public agencies and economists. Strengths 1.1 Global Market Leader The Boeing Company ("Boeing") has established itself as the global market leader in the commercial airplanes industry. It is also one of the two manufacturers in the commercial airline industry to manufacture 100+ seat airplanes. As a global market leader, there exists a strong market demand for Boeing's products. In 2013, it extended its market–share leadership with an industry record of 648 deliveries, reaching historic highs in delivery totals for the 737, 777 and 787 models. Boeing has also managed to secure an additional 1,355 new net orders in 2013, which extended its record backlog to 5,080 airplanes worth $347 billion . In Asian countries, such as China and Japan, an in European countries, such as France and Spain, trains voyage around the country at velocities over 200 mph–connecting central cities and providing sensible alternative to both air and automobile travel. Concurrently, the American rail network is restricted to speeds below 150 mph. The debate whether the United State should invest in high–speed railway systems has become a long–driven unresolved controversy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 7.58% of the annual federal funds seems a lot to be allocated just for establishing a high–speed railway system; however, constructing a high–speed railway system throughout the United States would take a couple of decades to accomplish. This means that the cost of constructing a high–speed railway system would be divided annually for about 20 years, only taking approximately about 0.38% of the annual federal funds collected from taxpayers–a minute percentage invested that would massively benefit the citizens of the United States in the future. Another argument of the disputants is that the construction of a high–speed railways system would only benefit a small portion of the United States population. Their argument could possibly be true when the high–speed railway system is just newly constructed; however, it is very unlikely to occur. As mentioned above, the construction of the high–speed railway system would take a couple of decades. The United States high–speed rail network map of the USHSR webpage shows a chronologically ordered planogram, from the year 2015–2030, that indicates which areas of the nation would the high–speed railways will consecutively be constructed. • 9. Essay about Cleaner Alternative Transportation When people think pollution, most think straight to automobiles producing harmful emissions which contribute to global warming or climate change. Well, this is true. Motor vehicles account for about half of the toxic air pollutant emissions in the United States. A large part of these toxic air pollutants is the need to rely on oil as a fuel source. The fact that oil is still the main source of energy for things like automobiles, when there are other alternatives like electric vehicles, creates many problems within our society. The United States' dependency on oil causes incidents like the Deepwater Horizon. The estimated amount of oil released stood at 4.9 million barrels and polluted the area significantly. While they have become of major importance, they also hold many drawbacks to our environment. They are the leading cause of transportation emissions and they generate a majority of America's global warming emissions. Even though air pollution emissions from motor vehicles have dropped considerably since 1950, Automobiles still produce about 60% of US transportation emissions and generate nearly 30% of America's global warming emissions (Car Emissions and Global Warming). The average conventional automobile can be seen as fairly gas inefficient. Compared to a hybrid electric vehicle, conventional cars produce about 1.5 times more greenhouse gas emissions and costs more in fuel costs. Within a 100–mile trip, conventional vehicles produce about 87 lb CO2, hybrid electric vehicles produce 57 lb CO2, plug–in hybrid electric vehicles produce 62 lb CO2, and all–electric vehicles produce 54 lb CO2 (see table 1). This shows that hybrid and electric cars produce less greenhouse gas emissions and costs less for fuel, compared to a conventional pure gas powered vehicle. The government aggressively steps in only when it considers the issue to be potential for social instability. Therefore, Weibo is used as a platform for Chinese citizens to give pressure on the government in hope for better and more transparent governance. Physical social movements are less likely to happen because of government censorship and the individual's less–willing–to–take–risk attitude. However, the government should not take this for granted. But that couldn't be further from the truth! Today, we have plenty of efforts in place attempting to reduce, and hopefully reverse, the negative effects on our environment. The transportation industry, one of the largest contributors to CO2 emissions, is no exception.Amtrak, being the number one passenger rail system in America, is making it an active goal to help preserve our planet. For instance, Amtrak pays close attention to the level of carbon emissions that it contributes on both a personal and overall scale. Just by traveling on Amtrak, instead of various other options, you are choosing a mode a transportation that contributes less greenhouse gases. Amtrak states that by riding on it instead of say a car or plane, there is as much as a thirty percent increase in energy efficiency. Amtrak also offers CO2 offsets by allowing passengers to "buy back" the amount of greenhouse gases that they personally added as a natural result of their travel. Through a partnership with Carbonfund.org, Amtrak has created a tool called the Rail Calculator which calculates the amount of carbon emissions generated by the passenger's rail travel based on the distance that they traveled and then compiles a price that the ... This paper discusses definitions of high speed rail, provides an overview of high speed rail development in selected other countries and regions. It then analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of HSR in several different aspects, such as mobility, choice, environmental, safety, cost and regional feasibility. Based on the opportunities presented by these features of HSR to learn, the article will provide recommendations and conclusions regarding to the future development of HSR. Introduction What is High Speed Rail? Although there is no universal and authoritative speed definition for High Speed Rail (HSR), the threshold can be found in many administrations or official organizations. For instance, the European Union defines HSR as: Separate lines built for speeds of 250 kilometers per hour (kph) (150 mph), or Existing lines upgraded to speeds of 200 kph (125 mph), or Upgraded lines whose speeds are constrained by circumstances such as topography or urban development. High Speed Rail in the World The world's first high speed rail line, between Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, was built in time for the 1964 Olympics. Known as the Shinkansen, or bullet trains, this high speed rail travels across the country at speeds up to 185 mile per hour, expending the traffic capacity on overcrowded rail lines. It is built with lightweight materials like fiberglass and aluminum (not steel), and it is not limited by friction from the wheels on the track which would slow down normal trains. This gives you a smoother ride (Stiefel, How a maglev works; Britcher 55). There is almost no sound from the train because it has about a 1 in. gap and doesn't touch the track (Quain 88). It can reduce congested roads and highways and could cut a 4 hour trip to a 1 hour trip (Amtrak vs. Maglev) (Stiefel, Mighty Maglev). "That's better than air travel. You don't have to deal with busy airports." says John Harding, physicist at the Federal Railroad Administration in Washington D.C. (Stiefel, Mighty Maglev). • 30. Life In A City Is Better Than Living In The City Kimi иѓЎеЉј No. 0210650 12/30/10 Persuasive Essay (Revised) Life in Cities is of More Quality in China In recent years, people have paid close attention to the quality of daily life a lot, and one of the most heated debating topics is whether people should choose to live in the city or in the countryside in China. There are millions of peasants living in rural areas, but a large number of them are rushing into urban areas to get a job every year. People living in the countryside are anxious to begin their urban life, meanwhile people in cities prefer to live a peaceful life far away from town. As for me, in China, living in the city is much better than living in the countryside in that citizens would surely live a more convenient life, have more choices in every aspect of life and would also achieve a sense of accomplishment in their enriching life. Since some areas of countryside in China are still in poor situation, cities offer people a more comfortable and convenient life. In some suburban regions, it is troublesome to go out, but the transportation system in almost every city in China is quite developed now. Citizens could choose different vehicles as they wish in cities, such as car, bus, metro and even high speed railway. People living in Wuhan in central region of China could reach Guangzhou in South China by high speed rail within several hours, in which period people living in rural areas may just get to town from home. In cities, people could enjoy the door–to–door transport service easily meanwhile going out is quite an inconvenient action for many people living in suburban in China. This sort of obvious contrast can be seen by everybody. Besides the aspect of transportation, there are more plentiful living facilities in cities than in the countryside. As a whole, the infrastructure in most cities in China is of high quality. The systems of medical treatment, health care, physical training, etc are available for citizens to make use of to keep their life quality in a high level. Once citizens have a problem in daily life, there are often corresponding ways for them to solve it. While in the most areas of countryside in China, there is still even a lack of medical security now. Living in the city ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fiat Launches Cars in China: A Global Marketing Strategy FIAT launches FIAT cars in China FIAT launches FIAT cars in China Introduction Global competition in all industry especially the automobile increases every time. Since 2009, China has become the world's largest automobile producer with an annual sale of over 14 million vehicles. This means it had surpassed Japan's previous records since by 2010 the government had focused their records to over 17 million. This growth has been elevated by the high demands due to the rising incomes. The middle class has advanced its status through the help of the supportive industry policies from Chinese government (Keith 2012). This is why there was a need to introduce the FIAT cars into the ChineseAutomobile Industry. The Chinese automobile industry has been disjointed for long. Also, the Chinese Central Government fears that the unrestrained expansion of this industry by the local authority may damage the broader economy. This means excess capacity would need to be stopped. That is why the Chinese government has continued to push for mergers and acquisitions in the vehicle industry in order to support the emerging of fewer leading companies. FIAT is one of the corporations that should be well thought–out due to the popularity of its production. Purpose of expansion FIAT cars have excellent performance on the road and its consumption is moderate. The Cars are good for domestic use consequently the reason for expanding it to China where domestic use has expanded tremendously. China ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That's what a lot of Texans what Americans and people around the world to know– you don't mess with Texas. In the 1950's, when President Eisenhower created the first Interstate plan for the country and implemented new roads in almost every single state, it was the largest engineering feat in the modern world. Now, almost half a century later, GovernorRick Perry is set to break that record, with the costliest, largest, and most incredible–sized proportion Texas Trans–Corridor, dubbed the "Texas Superhighway," a 4000 mile, $175 billion dollar project that won't be completely functional for another fifty years (Perry). Also, any traveler on the I–35 corridor in Texas runs into hundreds of eighteen–wheelers, increasing drivers awareness and causing disarray for drivers who are trying to see the road in front of them. Perry's answer is to shift the traffic away from metropolitan areas. If truck drivers can bypass San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas, the time to their destination would probably save them an entire day in travel. Freight rail services could veer away from San Antonio's railroad yard, an institution bustling with activity in the wee hours of the morning. Also, commuter rail can solve environmental problems and help families keep in touch anywhere in the state without the over–burdening costs of driving (Perry). Perry's plan begins with the setup itself: Six, twelve–foot vehicle passenger lanes in which the vehicle can travel at 80 miles per hour; Four, thirteen foot truck lanes; Two tracks for each of the following railroad establishments– high speed rail, commuter rail, and freight rail. No transportation facility exists like this in the modern world. All of these integrations to modern society are completely bundled into one, and their concept is all the same – relieve traffic in urban centers and create a safe and enjoyable experience through the Texas countryside without interruption ... Anyone can simply get on a computer and buy a ticket for the next day to go anywhere in the world he or she wants. Travel has never been faster or more convenient as it is today, and that convenience is what leads to tourism. People were now allowed to travel at will anywhere they wanted, perpetuating the tourism industry more than any other age. Road side Inns, resorts and attractions specifically for tourist increased tremendously after the mass ownership of automobiles. After conquering all forms of ground travel, man had some ambitions to take to the sky, thus came the Jet Aircraft Age. Wilbur and Orville Right were the first people to take flight, but their invention was not directly correlated with the commercial flight seen today. Two engineers, Frank Whittle of the United Kingdom and Hans von Ohain of Germany, developed the jet engine during the late 1930s. The first jet engine powered commercial airliner was introduced by the British Overseas Aircraft Corporation (BOAC); the 36–seat plane named Comet, flew for the first time on July 27, 1949. In just a few short years China has managed to position itself as a manufacturing leader in many of the industries that are most heavily needed by the other nations throughout the world. How China has done this is a remarkable story and provides a compelling reason for choosing an article about their success as a topic for this paper. The article not only highlights China's success but also provides insight into how China is becoming a partner in the world economy much like the United States did in the 50s and 60s and how readily the rest of the world is accepting China's participation. China is utilizing its position as an emerging nation and the availability of inexpensive labor to leverage itself against other competitors. As an example, for several decades the Japanese high speed train industry has been the standard for excellence. China, however, has openly established itself as a viable alternative and is not only actively building its own high speed train system connecting all the major Chinese cities they are also aggressively pursuing business with other nations throughout the world, including the United States, who are considering the building of a high speed train system. The proposed bonds would be insufficient for Phase 1 alone putting the rest of the project away from consideration. There is very little clarity on the potential matching funds to be available from federal and local governments. The reliability on private investors for capital funds is questionable approach. The California High Speed Rail Authority has received cautions from the state Senate Transportation and Housing Committee regarding the availability of matching funds for High Speed Rail construction. Most importantly the advisor of the California High Speed Rail Authority, Lehman Brothers has described the risks that are capable of restricting private investment in the project. These risks include cost overruns, doubt on ridership and revenue projections and political meddling. The Legislative Analysts Panel also published an article in 2011 pointing out the huge difference in the proposed and actual availability of funds. As per the Due Diligence Report of 2008, "It appears unlikely that sufficient private and public subsidy funding will be found to finance the complete HSR plan.
