What is a FORCE?
A force is a PUSH or a PULL.
Force is what causes things to begin moving, or slow down and stop.
When you pull on the rope, a force is transmitted through the rope to pull on the box and drag it
along
When the club strikes the ball, a force pushes to make the ball move.
Your legs push on the pedals. Wheels go around and push on the road.
If something is already moving, force can make it go faster, or slow down and stop. Force can also
cause a change of shape. For example, in a collision, forces can change the shape of the things
involved.
Pressing the accelerator makes the engine supply more force to the wheels... the car goes faster.
Pressing on the brake pedal causes a force in the wheels to slow the car down.
Sometimes, forces can change the temperature. In the car above, the brakes become very hot when
force is used to slow the car down.

Analysis Of The Poem 'The Fish' By Marianne Moore
Devica Davis–Kilpatrick Modernist Poetry Analysis February 25, 2015 "The Fish" Imagism is a
style of poetry that employs free verse and the patterns and rhythms of common speech. The poet is
free to write about whatever they want. The goal is to unify voice and image into a talking picture.
Poets then have the power to make words into things. This then creates a picture for the reader.
Marianne Moore is able to perfectly get her point across without directly stating it but making it
clear enough. Moore's poem "The Fish" uses syllabic verse, to mimic the sound of the ocean 's
waves moving in and out of the shore. Syllabic verse is a form that assigns a specific number of
syllables to each line of each stanza, and then repeats that pattern throughout the poem. There are no
specific rules indicating how many syllables each line should have, so the poet is given the freedom
to make up whatever pattern they want. For example in the first stanza of this poem Moore writes:
wade through black–jade Of the crow–blue mussel–shells, one keeps Adjusting the ash–heaps
Opening and shutting itself like In terms of syllables line one has one, three in line two, nine in line
three, six in line four, and eight in line five. The amount of syllables is comparable for each line of
each stanza. The most obvious reason for choosing this specific syllabic pattern is to preserve the
poem's rhythm throughout and to emphasize the constant cycles of nature and life. But visually, this

How Does George Orwell Use Speech In 1984
One fundamental aspect to consider when it comes to writing novels is the way an author presents
speeches and thoughts. This is a vital element to analyse with the purpose of investigating what
effect they leave on the novel itself. With this essay, I shall be dealing with four parts of George
Orwell's Nineteen Eighty–Four in chronological order, dealing with six types of speech and thought
presentations that Geoffrey Leech and Mick Short introduced. The six types shall be split into three
speech presentations while the other three shall be thought presentations. The parts to be analysed
are located in the appendix.
Aim
There are two main aims I want to present in this essay. Firstly, I shall analyse the novel parts to see
how George Orwell utilizes the speech and thought presentation framework in order to create an
effect on the book. Secondly, I shall discuss what effect it leaves on the book, that is, why George ...

It is important to note that although Winston is discussing some new information with Julia, he is
not telling the reader any new information.
Framework
This type of speech is described as narrative report of speech act. This is due to the fact that the
narrator does not commit entirely to what was said in the speech (Leech & Short, 2013, p. 259).
Instead, the narrator opts to generalise what was said as there is minimal account of what Winston
talked about (Simpson, 1993, p.21). In this case, the narrator appears in full control of the speech
act.
Author's aim
Orwell utilizes this type of speech act so to not prolong lengthy speeches on subjects which have
either already been told to the reader or are trivial to the main plot. Thus, the narrator takes over to
create a smoother flow and to keep the reader interested with new information instead of repeating.

Magnet – creates a magnetic field. The stronger it is the higher efficiency and accuracy of a speaker.
It is worth noting that nowadays this is a permanent magnet as opposed to the earliest designs which
used electromagnets. The most common and cheapest material used is ferrite but the most effective
are alnico magnets (consist of aluminium–nickel–cobalt hence the name). Field gap – should be as
small as possible to enhance magnetic induction hence improving the speaker's efficiency. Voice coil
– mounted on a bobbin. This makes the system move while AC passes through. It consists of turns
of copper or aluminium wire. Different cross–section wires are used. Round is most commonly used
but to pack it more densely square wire (flat) is used, while hexagonal provides the best heat
dissipation. Bobbin – is a short tube to which the voice coil is attached. The bobbin is connected to
the centre of the cone. The most common materials used are plastic, aluminium and paper.
Surrounds – these keep a cone centred and control its maximum moving range. Can be made of
many different materials such as butyl rubber, synthetic foams or PVC. Spider – prevents voice coil
from touching the magnet and maintains centralisation. Usually made of corrugated pressed fabric.
Cone – makes changes of air pressure while moving back and forth. It has to be stiff and
lightweight. Commonly made of paper pulp,

Uniformity Vs Conformity
Conformity in the land of the free
Uniformity. Conformity. These words have negative connotations in the minds of many Americans.
However, many believe that the United States is keeping the standard in society of uniformity and
conformity. America's society is based on the model of uniformity and conformity because of
minorities not fully being accepted and other citizens not being accepting of other culture.
First, minorities are often pushed to the side by the majority of American because of some believing
the minorities are not as important. For instance, a bilingual speaker Rodrigues talks about his
childhood and how he believed that he did not fully fit in until he conformed into what the rest of
America wanted him to be. This can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States of America today is keeping the standard of uniformity and conformity because of
not accepting minorities as respected people in the country.
Secondly, immigrants from many different parts of the world who have come to America have felt
that their cultures have been ridiculed and thus forces them to conform and become uniform. For
example, the excerpt of "A Raisin in the Sun", depicts an African woman who is made fun of by a
white person who doesn't fully understand her cultural clothing. This can be clearly seen when
George states, "Let's face is baby, your heritage is nothing but a bunch of raggedy assed spirituals
and some grass huts!" (Source 4). George has no respect for Beneatha's culture and does not try to
understand where she is coming from. This a perfect example of how the majority will force
minorities to leave their culture behind and conform the society's standard of uniformity. Beneatha
responds to his belittling comment by saying, "You are standing there in your splendid ignorance
talking about people were the first to smelt iron on the fact of the earth!" (Source 4). She reacted in
this way because he is not only insulting her culture but her as a person. George's ignorant comment
and Beneatha's retaliation shows that America's modern–day society is not moving towards diversity
and individuality but rather moving backward into uniformity and conformity.

Turntable History Paper
Introduction / Turntable History When a needle, called a stylus, hits the groove of a record it glides
through various peaks and valleys, which have been sculpted into the record groove creating
vibrations. These vibrations are sent up into the cartridge and converted into electrical signals. These
signals are outputted through an amplifier and then are heard by the human ear through speakers or
headphones. In order for audio to be reproduced from a record some key equipment is always
required – the turntable. The first question you must ask yourself is how do you intend on using the
turntable you purchase? Do you intend on becoming the next hot club DJ and require features such
as pitch control and a direct drive turntable, the optimal choice for scratching? Or is it your turntable
personal for home use? Are you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you have flexibility with where your turntable will be placed will be, choose wisely. Frequently,
people choose to have their set up incorporated within their living room or family room so that their

basement or garage as for their collections are large and the amount of time they plan on spending
listening to records may interfere with others in their household. Additionally, you will need a place
to house your receiver, a sturdy table or shelf to sit your turntable on and space for your speakers.
Understanding and planning your turntable set up ahead of time will allow you to better decide what
kind of turntable, amplifier/receiver and speakers you select. Below we look through a variety of

Foreign Policy During World War II
Foreign policy, in its most general sense, is the relations of one country to another on the
international stage. It can strengthen or destroy administrations, create or tarnish legacies, and ensue
or conclude conflicts. But regardless, foreign policy contributes to the creation of significant and
noteworthy history that future generations can create precedents from; this includes events and
decisions that occurred in the twentieth century. Throughout this time, the United States was
involved in numerous conflicts and made difficult decisions that impacted the international
community in occasionally significant manners. Of these incidents, the three most important
involvements by the United States in world affairs include: the U.S. entry into World War II with
emphasis on the European Theatre, the U.S. bombings of Japan, and President Ronald Reagan's
"Tear Down this Wall" speech. On December 7th, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service
bombed the U.S. naval base of Pearl Harbor in the Hawaii Territory which resulted in multiple
destroyed vessels, hundreds of lost aircraft, and over 2,300 human casualties (The WWII Museum).
This was quickly followed by a U.S. declaration of war against the Empire of Japan. Then on
December 11th, Adolf Hitler, Führer of Nazi Germany, declared war on the U.S. to honor his
Tripartite Pact with Japan. This was countered on the same day by the U.S. with its own declaration
of war against Germany (The History Place). As a result of

Essay On Convention Evaluation
ACP Convention Evaluation To me, the 2017 Fall National College Media Convention in Dallas,
was one of the most enriching experiences I've had in my college career; not only because I was
given the opportunity to visit Texas but also because I learned so much. In those five days at Dallas,
I went to multiple sessions imparted by professionals in communications. I went to two the Keynote
speaker's sessions where I saw Dale Hansen and Hugh Aynesworth, live. On Wednesday, the day we
arrived in Dallas, I went to a session called Fast and Furious: The Society for News Design Quick

The presentation was unconventional, primarily because he was dressed in a red suit that had the
word Libel written all over it. However, everything he said throughout the presentation was truth. I
learned editors should not be afraid to fire slackers, or to print awful issues since, in the newspaper
world, you always get another chance to do better. On Friday I went to the Keynote Speaker series
where he spoke about the day John F. Kennedy was shot in Dallas and how he covered the story.
This keynote session was different from Hansen's since Aynesworth asked questions about that day
in front of the audience. He spoke about what he did when the president was shot, how many shots
were fired, how he met Fidel Castrol, among other things. That same day, I went to a session titled
Brand Me: Mastering Social Media to Brand yourself & Your Org. The speaker gave us ten tips to
properly brand ourselves. Among the tips, there was: having similar professional pictures throughout
social media sites, developing a website, developing a LinkedIn account, writing a description
underneath all social media accounts, among others. The last session I attended that day was Editor–
in–Grief Part 2: 10 Secrets of Very Sexy Editors. In this session, I learned that not every person in
my staff will like me, newspaper alumni always have my back, and that food should be bought as a
reward not as a bribe. On Saturday I attended a session titled More Jobs than Applicants:

Jfk, By John Fitzgerald Kennedy
On the cold blustery snow covered day of January 20, 1961, John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK)
participated in the 44th presidential inauguration, when he was sworn in as the 35th President of The
United States of America. The inauguration was almost canceled, as a result of the nor'easter, which
pummeled the nation's capital hours before. In order for the inauguration to proceed as planned, The
U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, thousands of D.C. employees and almost 1,700 boy scouts worked
feverously to clear the area and streets of snow that finished falling just hours before the occasion.
The event went on as planned at the State Capital in front of an enormous crowd of family, friends,
famous people and supporters of JFK. Among the most notable in attendance was JFK's wife Jackie,
his mother Rose, Vice president Lyndon B. Johnson, Dwight D. Eisenhower and 86 year old poet
Robert Frost who recited poems. This was also the first time the presidential inauguration was
televised in color. With extremely unbearable weather, and a Nor'easter moving out of the area just
hours before, a massive crowd gathered at the State Capital to participate witnessing history. A
crowd, full of several emotions: including excitement, fear, and uncertainty surrounding the future
and safety, not only for their great nation, but similarly the world. The Cold War was progressing
and multiple countries were rearing their ugly head, showing how cowardly and evil the human race
can be. Spectators were

Poem Analysis Of To His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell
To his Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell, he revealed the endeavors of a man towards demanding
his sweetheart's warmth and declines of the unknown mistress to lay down with the honorable man
being referred to, and the refined man's reaction is to disclose to her that, if had he enough time, he
could spend whole hundreds of years respecting her excellence and her beauty; be that as it may,
human life is short and tomorrow is not guarantee he doesn't have this time, thus they ought to
appreciate each other now while regardless they can, as nobody in death can grasp or feel delight. In
his tones of adoration and slavishness reflect how the suiter guarantees that if the time stopped he
would passionately worship each component of his coy mistress, however since time wait for no
man he utilizes this guarantees to lure in his fancy woman to make love with him. The poem is
written in the form of a love poem using the traditional love elegy format also known as 'carpe diem'
and is divided into three stanzas or poetic paragraphs. It's spoken by a nameless man, who doesn't
reveal any physical or biographical details about himself, to a nameless woman, who is also
anonymous. The beauty of the language and the overwhelming focus on the woman's beauty, the
respect shown therein, makes the poem quite progressive and intriguing. The man aims not only to
smooth talk but also to impress her. To confront the concept of time, he uses biblical references to
mark the permanent nature of reality. By using a story out of the Old Testament the image of the
great flood that purged the earth as a start point and then used the image that Armageddon will
ultimately occur at the conversion of the Jews as an end point, the man tries to show the vastness of
predicted human existence. At the same time however he subtly hints toward the second more
nihilistic section of the poem. This imagery it is interesting in two respects; first it suggests that
physical human life has been ended by God and will be ended by him again. Thus, providing a
backdrop for the speaker's argument that in reality life is temperamental and therefore procreation
should not be delayed at the expense of morality. The image is interesting in a second way as it may

Chapter Summary: The Devil And Tom Walker
Kyle Oyague Mr. Burns English 11 Honors Period 4 11 November 2015 A. "The Devil and Tom
Walker" B. Washington Irving C. "Tom looked in the direction that the stranger pointed and beheld
one of the great trees, fair and flourishing without, but rotten at the core, and saw it had been nearly
hewn through, so that the first high wind was likely to blow it down"(page 325). This quotation
shows imagery because Irving describes how this tree is beautiful and luscious at the top, but at the
bottom of the tree it is rotting and looks like it will fall over by the next big gust of wind. "A
miserable horse, whose ribs were as articulate as the bars of a gridiron, stalked about a field..." (page
322). This is an example of a simile because it compares the ribs of the horse to bars of gridiron.
This just goes to show that Tom doesn't really take care of his property. D. "They lived in a forlorn–

Best Budz Headphones are the Best
Millions of people use headphones every day. With a variety of uses, whether it's listening to music,
talking on the phone, or working out, headphones have become almost a necessity in everyday
America. One aspect that we believe hinders headphones that are currently being sold today is the
fact that they are all attached to a chord. Until recently, there was no such product that has come out
with cordless headphones. This is where our product comes in. Our product, Best Budz, will be the
first of its kind wireless headphones. We have created a headphone that is seemingly the same size
as the apple headphones, without the cord attached to them. We are trying to use simplicity at its
finest. The headphones will be magnetic and that way the consumer will be less prone to losing the
ear buds. We have also come up with a solution for when a headphone does indeed go missing. We
have installed a device into the ear buds to let the consumer know when a headphone is farther than
three feet apart from the other. When this happens, the headphones will start to beep and vibrate to
ensure the consumer can locate the missing earpiece. We want to clarify any concerns that come
with small Ear Buds being wireless, especially the question of where do I put the headphones when
they are currently not being used. This is where a use of a tie in product will come into play. We
have created a new case that will be sold for major types of wireless phones, such as the iPhone and

The Sonnet Form and Its Meaning: Shakespeare's Sonnet 65
The Sonnet Form and its Meaning: Shakespeare Sonnet 65 The sonnet, being one of the most
traditional and recognized forms of poetry, has been used and altered in many time periods by
writers to convey different messages to the audience. The strict constraints of the form have often
been used to parallel the subject in the poem. Many times, the first three quatrains introduce the
subject and build on one another, showing progression in the poem. The final couplet brings closure
to the poem by bringing the main ideas together. On other occasions, the couplet makes a statement
of irony or refutes the main idea with a counter statement. It leaves the reader with a last impression
of what the author is trying to say. Shakespeare's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A siege surrounds and kills a city. To batter something is to hit and pound it heavily, just as time
does this to the nature in summer when the bad weather, cold months come in. The progression of
the days and time leading to summer's end is what batters the beautiful "honey breath." Steel gates
and rocks, again images associated as being immortal to time's progression, are eventually
"decayed" by time, so of course summer's fragile beauty could not hold out. In a battle, an
"impregnable" force is one that cannot be penetrated or destroyed. As rocks are here presented as
strong and impregnable, time is so strong that it even eventually destroys them. "Gates of steel" that
usually keep the evil forces out of a place in battle also eventually decay in old age. The whole
metaphor of summer versus time proves time to always be the victory. Nothing can defeat it. The
third quatrain introduces a new object that is also vulnerable to time, love. It starts with "O fearful
meditation!" commenting on the scary and sad thoughts the speaker has had in the previous two
quatrains. The anguish of the speaker has reached its pinnacle and all three words have accents on
the first syllable, showing that they are heavily stressed and important to show the speaker's tone.

Walt Whitman's Use Of Repetition In A Noiseless Patient...
Whitman's Use of Repetition in "A Noiseless Patient Spider"
American Poetry comes in many different shapes and forms. There is a plethora of American
authors that use various writing techniques to transform their ideas into works of art. Walter "Walt"
Whitman is one of the most famous authors that used a variety of styles in many of his poems. Many
of his works of art affected the population and have influenced the country. He has created multiple
poems that have become popular over the years and will be remembered for years to come. Walt
Whitman comes from an impecunious family that has a tremendous amount of love for their home
country, America. His father took him out of school when he was young to help with the household
funds. As he grew older, Whitman was in and out of different occupations and he was always
moving businesses. He started out as a teacher, but most of his jobs involved journalism, writing,
and editing. With his experiences growing up and in jobs, he was able to take the knowledge he
gained and apply it to his writing. Journalism allowed writing to be one of his major skills, and
using a multitude of writing techniques became a big part of his work. One of his most well known
works of poetry is Leaves of Grass, a collection of poems, originally published in 1855. Although he
could not afford to make many copies, he still earned success as he made an impact on the people
around him. The style of the poems in that book fell away from traditional, organized poetry. It was
Whitman's first popular piece of literature that expressed his transcendentalist view of the world. As
the book became more popular, there were many updated editions. The 1891 edition contains a
favored poem named "A Noiseless Patient Spider." This short poem is a valid example of the
different styles Whitman uses throughout his literature. Whitman is able to get across the themes of
this poem while using repetition and other freestyle writing techniques. Walt Whitman uses the
writing style of repetition to convey the themes of separateness and the desire for connection and
eternal life in his poem "A Noiseless Patient Spider." While the speaker in the poem compares
himself several times to the spider, Whitman ultimately

John Deere Farming
When settlers first started moving to the west farming became tough. The settlers needed to fix this

Deere invented one of the most important things in America. Farming the east required farmers to
use a cast iron plow because the ground was loose and sandy. As settlers moved to the west they
discovered that the ground was tough and they had to clean the plows many times because the dirt
would stick to the plow. Having to do this made farming tough for people that were starting a new

Swot Analysis Of Skullcandy
Shakera Butler
BUA450
Skullcandy Skullcandy was founded in 2003 by Rick Alden in Park City, Utah. The idea came to
him in 2001 when he was riding on a ski lift while listening to music. His phone rang and he had to
change his headphones over to the phone. That's when he told himself he wished there was
headphones that you could use both on a Mp3 player and a cell phone. In 2002, he created his first
prototype called Link, that were a hit. His company grew fast that he started to make headphones to
go inside helmets, MP3 equipped backpacks, and watches. Today you will also find Bluetooth
speakers and gaming headsets.

The main weakness of Skullcandy is that they struggle to maintain grown. At one point of time,
there were so many orders coming in that production could barely keep up. It was also hard for them
to come out with new designs while trying to fix minor glitches in other products, and keep up with
production. Up until a couple of years ago, Skullcandy only had two suppliers; core channels and
big–box retailers. They cared about loyalty and reputation to their core channels of specialty shops.
With these stores, there isn't a lot of them so most of their sales came from retailers, and if that fails
the company can too.
Opportunities
Skullcandy can expand their company to across the world. Beats by Dr. Dre is being sold
international through Apple. If Skullcandy explores the new markets and the developing ones, it
could exceed the company. There is a constant demand for headphones every day, they seem to be
essential to people's life. Just like any other headphone company there always wants for new designs
and products. Apple's iPhone is always changing every year, and everybody gets all excited for it.
They have changed from headphone with a cord to wireless headphone pods that you just stick in
your ear. With new products and production comes materials. Materials to produce headphones such
as copper have risen in price. Skullcandy and other companies have the power to negotiate it lower.
More cheaper materials, the more products they can produce and

Poem Analysis: The Fish By Marianne Moore
The poem The Fish by Marianne Moore has eight stanzas that contain five lines each with an
"AABBC" rhyme scheme. The Fish occurs in a body of water from the perspective of a fish with a
third–person omniscient speaker who describes all the actions occurring. The poem has a unique line
structure where each two lines of the stanza become more indented than the previous two lines
before resetting for the next stanza. Moore also uses poetic device such as Metaphor, Simile,
Alliteration, Rhyme, and Enjambment to form each stanza. The Fish begins with a metaphor
describing the movement of the fish as well as what the water looks like, "The Fish/wade/through
black jade" (324), (note the first stanza only makes sense with the inclusion of the title). The use of
"black jade" not only allows the reader to see the rough surface of the rocks the fish is passing over,
but also helps the reader visualize the dark green qualities of the water. Descriptions of motion in
sea life continue from the first to the second stanza,

"Ac" rhymes with "lack" making it a structural change to the poem but breaking the structure of the
word increases the changes made from the poem. Breaking up the word "accident," due to the rhyme
scheme, is fully intentional, just like the intentional accidents acting upon the edifice. Not only do
the forces of the water have no choice but to drive itself through the cliff, making the accidental
action of destruction intentional but breaking the word highlights how the cliff, itself is breaking.

Frederick Douglass Contributions To Abolish Slavery
Since the beginning of time people have changed the world. They influence people to do the right
thing and stand up for what they believe in. Frederick Douglass was a man who helped abolish
slavery by informing others about the truth behind slavery and inspiring them to demand its end.
The challenges he faced from growing up as a slave gave him the courage and strength to do the
amazing things he has done in his lifetime. Frederick Douglass was the most influential African
American in the 19th century because his moving speeches and prominent writing opened people's
eyes to the inhumanity in the world.
Frederick Douglas was one out of the thousands of people born into slavery. Douglas suffered from
harsh environments and was malnourished ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He gave people the confidence to stand up for what they believe in. During the Civil War he was
asked by the current President, Abraham Lincoln, to rally up American Americans to fight. Many
slaves were afraid to fight but he gave them to courage to stand up. Frederick Douglass was not just
a writer and a speaker, he was a motivator to end slavery. Douglass was loved by many, according to
the Encyclopedia of World Biography, "Douglass quickly became involved in the antislavery
movement, which was gaining impetus in the North. In 1841, at an abolitionist meeting in
Nantucket, Mass., he delivered a moving speech about his experiences as a slave and was
immediately hired as a lecturer by the Massachusetts Antislavery Society... His self–taught prose
and manner of speaking so inspired some Harvard students inspired him to write his autobiography.
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass was published in 1845." He had such a great affect
on people's lives that he was asked by many people to tell his story and spread the truth about
slavery. After the civil war he spent a lot of his time in politics and tried to make sure that everyone
had equal rights. Before he died he was "...marked by a series of appointments to civil service slots
that usually were reserved for blacks. In 1877, President Rutherford B. Hayes appointed him U.S.

Straight From The Heart By Fredrick Douglass Analysis
Fredrick Douglass stood in front of the Ladies' Anti–Slavery Society on July 5th, 1852. Douglass'
speech, What to the Slave is the Fourth of July, touches on the universal theme of racial injustice. He
spoke passionately, and deliberately about the cruel life as a slave, while Americans celebrated being
free when they couldn't even free people in their own country. He captured the attention of everyone
standing in Rochester, New York. 153 years laters on July 11th, 2005, Marie Fatayi– Williams
delivered a powerful, moving speech, Straight From the Heart. Every listener in London stood
listening and unconsciously gravitating to her story and feeling her exact emotions. She stood heart
broken over the loss of her innocent son, because of evil acts of terrorism. Two completely different
people. Two completely different topics. Though their subjects are polar opposites, both speaker
employ ethos and pathos to appeal to their audiences and connect to them through the heartlessness,
and hatred of people and their actions. Douglass's voice entered every listener and moved them. "I
say with a sad sense of the disparity between us. I am not included within the pale of the glorious
celebration. Your high independence only reveals the immeasurable distance between us" (Faigley
page 378). This was his opening. Just by that sentence you can hear the pain, the anger, and the
sadness in his voice. He know first hand that he is not treated like he is equal. He was robbed of his
freedom and his dignity. People are drawn to him because he speaks the hard truth. He explains the
unimaginable to delicate ears. Douglass explains the way they were treated and talked about. " The
fate of many a slave has depended upon the turn of a single card; and many a child has been
snatched from the arms of its mother by bargains arranged in a state of brutal drunkenness" (Faigley
page 384) Any mother with tender hearts would be moved by those words. He persuades people to
side with him, and feel for him. He wants people to be upset by his words so that things will get
changed. "What am I to argue that it is wrong to make men brutes, to rob them of their liberty, to
work them without wages, to keep them ignorant of their relations to

Headphones : The Isolation Phenomenon
Headphones: The Isolation Phenomenon One of the most significant restrictions on free immigration
in the United States, was the Exclusion Act of 1882. The law was intended to prohibit the migration
of Chinese Laborers, which isolated the Chinese people from Americans. In the 21st century,
inventers have developed advanced headphones that enables the consumer to listen to different
forms of media from different states and countries while simultaneously isolating them from the
present world around them. In order to accurately explain how headphones have lead to an isolation
phenomenon, we have to understand the definition of the word isolation, the main purpose for
headphones, how we use headphones in our daily lives, and how headphones alter our state of
consciousness in a debate of Reality versus Fantasy. Although headphones can be used for viewing
media around the World, the word isolation can figuratively describe this advancement in
technology due to headphones being a convenient way to distance yourself from others because of
its exclusivity. As time has grown, headphones have been wildly industrialized by celebrities such as
Dr. Dre. Dr. Dre is known for his headphones called, "Beats", which can be classified as sound–
isolating headphones. According to Cnet Magazine, "...sound–isolating earphones are normal

Musicians such as Madonna and David Bowie have influenced Gaga
Gaga grew up listening to artists such as the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Bruce Springsteen,
Pink Floyd, Mariah Carey, the Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Whitney Houston, Elton John, Blondie
and Garbage,[196] who have all influenced her music.[197][198] Gaga's musical inspiration varies
from dance–pop singers such as Madonna and Michael Jackson to glam rock artists such as David
Bowie and Freddie Mercury, as well as the theatrics of the pop artist Andy Warhol and her own
performance roots in musical theater.[30][199] She has been compared to Madonna, who has said

has changed her vocal style regularly, and considers Born This Way "much more vocally up to par
with what I've always been capable of".[218][219] In summing up her voice, Entertainment Weekly
wrote: "There's an immense emotional intelligence behind the way she uses her voice. Almost never
does she overwhelm a song with her vocal ability, recognizing instead that artistry is to be found in

Gaga's early songs have been called "depthless" by writer Camille Paglia in The Sunday Times,

Music Influence On Music
Music is an art form and cultural activity that has been enjoyed for centuries by many generations of
humans. As time goes on, music preferences change and along with that, the way individuals
consume music also changes. Firstly, looking at my age group; we were born in the 2000's and this
is also when the Internet had just come out. The internet and the development of other technologies,
facilitated the shift to digital music consumption for this generation. For example, Spotify is a music
streaming service that was released in 2008 and has become very popular among this generation.
Many other music streaming services have followed Spotify such as Apple Music, as many
consumers like to have access to a wide array of songs through the web, which helps them avoid the
inconvenience of having to download all the music. Also, portable music players such as the iPod
Nano are really enjoyed by people in my age group, as it allows them to have access to their music
from practically anywhere. Finally, another advancement that has really been enjoyed by consumers
in my age group are wireless headphones. Although stereo headphones have been around since the
1950's, products like the Apple's AirPods are popular with individuals in my age group, as many are
looking for wireless electronics. Secondly, looking at my parent's age group, they had many sources
of music consumption. My parents listened to music through cassettes, CDs, and vinyl's through
their childhood to young adulthood. Vinyl records first came out in the 1950's, about a decade before
my parents were born, but they still spent a lot of time listening to music through vinyl turntables
which they had at their homes. To this day, they have some at my home, due to the amazing sound
quality they deliver. Cassette tapes were also released in the 1960's, so my parents also listened to
them through cassette players. My father tells me he owned the Sony Walkman when he was
younger, and that was the portable music device of their time. Finally, when CD's came out in the
1980's, my parents tell me that they used them a lot and to this day, still use them to play music
when in the car sometimes. Also, in terms of headphones, they used a fair bit of stereo headphones

Analysis Of `` Because I Could Not Stop For Death ``
Themes of death all ring loud and clear in Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for Death", Donne's
"Death, be not proud", and Cherry's "Alzheimer's". The poems are not explicitly about the act of
dying, but death is personified or even foreshadowed in the work. Each piece has a different tone
when referencing Death. Two of the poems reference Death by name, the last poem doesn't
specifically speak about dying or death per se, but based on the title, "Alzheimer's", it is clear that
death is imminent for the man in the poem.
First, Emily Dickinson's poem "Because I could not stop for Death" is obvious in its theme of death
in comparison to the others listed in the previous paragraph. The narrator of this poem uses a figure
of speech to describe Death as a kind person taking the time to pick her up since she was too busy
for him (Dickinson 566). Death is described as warm and kind throughout most of this poem, with
only two stanzas depicting a sinister feeling when she actually realizes that she is dead. The speaker
tells about a carriage ride with Death, a metaphor for the act of dying. This poem, in fact, is built on
metaphors, alliterations, anaphora, paradox and it's written in lyric form; it's got a beat to it when
read. The poem contains six stanzas with four lines in each making it a quatrain. "Because I could
not stop for Death" also uses symbols in its text to establish the speaker's lifetime. The speaker tells
of the carriage ride past the school where children

A Woman’s Place in Society Explored in Marge Piercy’s...
Society has a way of placing unrealistic expectations on women. By using television, magazines,
billboards, and even toys we see a mold of what women are supposed to look like. In other words
the perfect woman should look like a Barbie Doll. In Marge Piercy's, "Barbie Doll," we find a girl
child growing up through the adolescence stage characterized by appearances and barbarity. Piercy
uses lots of imagery to describe the struggles the girl experiences during her teenage years and the
effects that can happen. In the first stanza we see the beginning of an ideal image being stained in
the girls mind. She was "...presented dolls that did pee–pee and miniature GE ovens and irons and
wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second stanza "She went to and fro apologizing" (10). Piercy uses imagery to show us the
ugliness the girl feels by saying, "Everyone saw a fat nose on thick legs" (11).
Women are sometimes pressured to act in a way that is fake such as wearing a smile when they don't
want to or exercising and dieting. The girl was told to do these things as if to say act like a lady. The
child's "...good nature wore out like a fan belt" (15–16). To the reader this line says that the girl is
giving up. She then goes on to kill herself by cutting off her nose and legs. The girl turned to suicide
because of the emotional suffering caused by not fitting the profile of a Barbie doll.
In the fourth stanza is where ironic imagery comes into play. "Doesn't she look pretty? everyone
said." (23) The girl was finally recognized as pretty but she was laying in a casket when it happened.
The girl has finally achieved society's goal for her, but only in death. Piercy shows us this by saying
"Consummation at last" (24).
Even though it is no longer 1936, we still live in a world where society places pressure on women to
look and act a certain way. The speaker, Marge Piercy, is trying to reach out to the girls or women
that are taking society's expectations so seriously. She's telling us that by doing so our self–esteem
can be lowered and our emotions can be affected so severely that things like this

Jamaica Kincaid Girl
In contemporary literary studies there is an abundant amount of literary theories and criticism that
can be evaluated when analyzing any type of literary work. In Jamaica Kincaid's Girl the literary
theory regarding feminism and other feminist evaluations can be utilized to understand the themes,
motives, imagery and other noteworthy elements included in Girl. The feminist theory contains a
major breakdown on the feminist perspective and the development of gender in literature throughout
the nineteenth century and so forth. Using works from Judith Butler and Helene Cixous, Girl
exemplifies the feminist theory through the characteristics discovered through these criticisms and

As stated before, the text involves a mother ranting to her daughter about what her responsibilities in
life include and what it takes to be a proper woman instead of a "slut". The text shines a light on
what the nineteenth century female had to endure by establishing a set of images and roles that each
woman should follow in order to be accepted in society. A feminist criticism allows one to analyze
the text to co–inside with this theory because it "seeks to testify sexist discrimination and
inequalities,"(Cixous 44). The text is subjective to the idea that women should act a certain way in
order to fulfill their role in life. The text also offers the idea of male domination and power during
this time, however to a lesser degree. The mother expresses the importance of keeping a man happy,
proving the dominance and power of men during this time by teaching her daughter how to iron her
fathers pants and shirt. The representation of men in this text allows helps the reader understand the
importance of the male figure and how the female figure, is not as well respected. In juxtaposition,
the short story is mostly written in an attempt to give females a voice. In Castration or Decapitation?

The Sonnet Form and its Meaning: Shakespeare Sonnet 65
The sonnet, being one of the most traditional and recognized forms of poetry, has been used and
altered in many time periods by writers to convey different messages to the audience. The strict
constraints of the form have often been used to parallel the subject in the poem. Many times, the
first three quatrains introduce the subject and build on one another, showing progression in the
poem. The final couplet brings closure to the poem by bringing the main ideas together. On other
occasions, the couplet makes a statement of irony or refutes the main idea with a counter statement.

The speaker makes a good argument here, and the tone of the poem is introduced as hopelessness in
the survival of beauty.
True to sonnet form, the second quatrain confirms the previously presented argument, and poses a
similar question as the anguish of the speaker and the dilemma of time's progression are heightened.
Line 5 starts with "O," eliciting the speaker's great anguish at the predicament of time and it is
accented, breaking the traditional iambic pentameter meter in which Shakespeare writes: O, how
shall summer's honey breath hold out Against the wrackful siege of batt'ring days, When rocks
impregnable are not so stout, Nor gates of steel so strong, but time decays?
The imagery is powerful. Summer is personified as battling against time. Summer, in reality, is a
time when life begins to die out as the colder months come in, so nature and the plants are in fragile
condition. "Summer's honey breath" reflects the flowers and plants so beautiful and transient in
summer, the nature that keeps "Summer" alive. But the "wrackful siege of batt'ring days" comes to
kill this beauty. The progression of the

Compare And Contrast Accidental Time, And 'The Pedestrian'
Mexico City and Los Angeles, two immense cities of very different characteristics and cultures, are
brought together by Octavio Paz's "Identical Time" and Ray Bradbury's "The Pedestrian". Because
through featuring certain individuals as particularly alive in their cities, they each have, in common,
a theme of aliveness: in "Identical Time", the old man is alive in the busy dawn of the Mexico City,
and in "The Pedestrian", the protagonist Mr. Mead is alive in the quiet night of a future Los Angeles
envisioned by Bradbury. Though manifested as stillness in "Identical Time" and, quite the contrary,
motion in "The Pedestrian", aliveness signifies in both, likewise, as living a human life freely in the
present and through the beauty of nature. Furthermore, with their portrayals of the individual's
struggles and quests to be alive in their own cities, the two pieces speak together to how both cities,
and indeed city lives in general, might hinder our own aliveness and, by that, humanity. In "Identical
Time", aliveness is attributed to a state of stillness, against the backdrop of constant movement that
is Mexico City. Mexico City is personified and portrayed as under movement and action in the very
first stanza: "turning on its shadow / searching always searching itself" (Paz 1). The city is moving
and "turning", and the repetition of the word "searching" indicates that the city, or rather its people,
are in active and eager pursuits – of themselves, their dreams and futures,

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Tyler's Speech
Tyler, a sophomore at Shady Side Academy, gives a near–perfect monologue that feels as if Iron
Man himself were standing on stage. Full of character, environment, and persuasion, the
performance he gives is not only entertaining, it is a great example of the do's and don'ts of speech
giving. Although some mistakes are made by him, and while he may not take home first prize, his
speech is definitely worth listening to.
The character that Tyler plays, Tony Stark, is the most important part of his speech. It is
quintessential that he nails the idea of the billionaire, or else his argument falls apart. Tyler portrays
Mr. Stark quite convincingly for a sophomore in high school, and because of it, the audience is
willing to believe the atmosphere he sets. The joke that introduces his speech, "How about those
Super–Steaks? My Super–Compliments to the Super–Chef." is a perfect example of creating the
environment before the topic is even introduced. The audience hears the joke, but won't understand

Seamus Heaney Poems
Good Afternoon all,
I have been asked before you today to discuss my opinion on the poetry of Seamus Heaney, and
although this style of learning wouldn't be what you'd be used to, I'm hoping you will all benefit
from what I have to say and leave here with a clear understanding of Heaney's brilliance,
questioning the meaning behind what he has written.
I have decided to take a thematic approach to this discussion rather than spend set time talking about
one poem at a time, only for you to grow confused at the end when thinking about which poem a
certain idea has come from as I move from one to other. Instead I've decided to compare four of my
favourite Heaney poems under three headings. The poems I have chosen are 'A Constable Calls', ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heaney cares for his father, for all of his life he has cared for his father, whether that be while he
was watching "arithmetic and fear" while his father dealt with the constable or while he thought of
his father working, "Touching, inspecting, separating one stalk from the other" in his garden.
Evidence of the love being something unspoken of or simply being present is in the last line of 'A
Call' when Heaney says "I nearly said I loved him". Without a doubt there is love between Heaney
and his father and throughout Heaney's work he explains to us how this relationship operated.
Moving on to the second them I've found to be consistent in the poetry of Seamus Heaney is the
stark contrasting theme to Love of being in isolation and alone. On many occasions we see the
speaker in the poems left to his own devices, alone to think about aspects of his life. The isolation is
seen by the poet as positive, negative or indifferent varies throughout his poems. For example in 'A
Constable Calls' we can see a sense of isolation in how the life of his parents works. To Heaney, his
father is the symbol of authority, as most children see their father. But when the Constable comes to

Analyzing Marge Piercy's 'Barbie Doll'
Harjay Singh
ELA 20

Barbie Doll
The poem "Barbie Doll" written by Marge Piercy refers to the birth of a "girlchild". The speaker
starts off as saying that her birth is "usual" which means she is normal. Piercy talks about her
childhood and how she shows off her dolls that do "pee–pee" and mentions her other things like the
miniature stoves, irons and lipsticks which is "cherry candy" in color and she uses alliteration in this
stanza.. Even though the things are referred as "usual" here, We sense the feeling that there is a
dispute or conflict between with the adult world and the parents who raise their kids because stoves,
lipsticks and stones are the normal toys given to a girl at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This gives us the sense that adults differenciate toys on the basis of gender which further starts
conflicts. Further, Piercy describes her puberty by referring to its "magic" in a sarcastic tone. During
puberty, as we know the teenage body changes in every aspect. It is also the time when girls and
boys start learning more about socializing with one another. So, Piercy also highlights the problems
teenagers have to face when it comes to the society, social status, their appearance and many more
factors. Moving on, In the 3rd stanza Piercy talks about the girl's physical qualities, And also how
the society did not see them. She is described as healthy, smart, strong and smart yet sexually active
girl. Since her childhood, She thought of herself as someone with imperfections. She only saw what
the society had to say about her and therefore she apologized to the society for her imperfections. It
ends by the sense that the

Summary Of To His Coy Mistress
" To his Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell, he uncovered the attempts of a man towards requesting
his sweetheart's glow and decreases of the obscure fancy woman to set down with the fair man being
alluded to, and the refined man's response is to unveil to her that, if had he enough time, he could
spend entire several years regarding her magnificence and her excellence; in any case, human life is
short and tomorrow is not ensure he doesn't have this time, in this manner they should value each
other now while in any case they can, as no one in death can handle or feel amuse. In his tones of
love and subjugation reflect how the suiter ensures that if the time halted he would enthusiastically
adore every part of his bashful paramour, however since time sit tight for no man he uses this
certifications to bait in his favor lady to have intercourse with him. The sonnet is composed as an
adoration lyric utilizing the conventional love requiem arrange otherwise called 'carpe diem' and is
isolated into three stanzas or graceful passages. It's talked by an anonymous man, who doesn't
uncover any physical or true to life insights about himself, to an anonymous lady, who is likewise
unknown. The excellence of the dialect and the mind–boggling center around the lady's
magnificence, the regard demonstrated in that, makes the sonnet very dynamic and interesting. The
man points to smooth talk as well as to awe her. To go up against the idea of time, he utilizes
scriptural references to stamp the changeless idea of reality. By utilizing a story out of the Old
Testament the picture of the immense surge that cleansed the earth as a begin point and afterward
utilized the picture that Armageddon will eventually happen at the transformation of the Jews as an
end point, the man tries to demonstrate the inconceivability of anticipated human presence. In the
meantime anyway he quietly implies toward the second more agnostic area of the lyric. This
symbolism it is fascinating in two regards; first it recommends that physical human life has been
finished by God and will be finished by him once more. In this way, giving a scenery to the
speaker's contention that in all actuality life is volatile and accordingly multiplication ought not

How Headphones And The Acoustic Transducer Became The Most...
Summary
In the 21st century, sound transducers became the most important building block in all electronic
devices. This element is employed into many products such as microphones, cellphones, radios,
probes, etc. Headphones, for instance, are based on the loudspeaker system which works thanks to
the acoustic transducer. They may look mundane in our daily life, but each element inside the
headphones denotes significant innovations in human history. How do headphones work and what
are the secrets that lie inside?
The objective of this essay is to describe and clarify the main technology that headphones employ.
Therefore, it will be explored different elements that make headphones so much used today such as
history, function principles, manufacturing and future development.
The history behind the headphones
The statement of the first headphones inventor can be a fine debatable topic, which is not the goal of
this essay. Thus, the historical background will be reviewed only to obtain the engineering
improvement for the acoustic transducer, while the statement for the creator of "first true
headphones" will be left at the reader's belief. Some people may associate headphones' origin to the
engineering of the first Walkman in 1979, while others instead, declare that Beyerdynamic should be
taking the credit. Most of archives and encyclopaedias, such as Wikipedia, say that the first working
headphones were created and sold to the US Navy by Nathaniel Baldwin, in 1910. (Figure 1

(Russell, 2011) Also, another weakness that Skullcandy has been getting major negative feedback on
the durability of the headphones and needs to fix it as soon as possible. (Russell, 2011) Skullcandy
has many opportunities because the company just started and doesn't know its full potential yet.
Skullcandy headphones have been making great strides in new designs and new product types.
(Russell, 2011) They have also been putting out clothing and other accessories such as hats,
sunglasses, and are in the works of starting a shoe design with DC, which is a shoe company known
for making skating shoes. Stocks have been going up for Skullcandy so they should expect more
people to buy in to what they are about and help them become a household name. (Russell, 2011)
Some of the threats or competition for Skullcandy headphones is Sony. Sony is a big name in
electronics and also makes headphones of all kinds. Sony already has many years on Skullcandy and
has proven its reliability. Another threat to bring Skullcandy down is the fact that it has expanded to
other products. Since the company started, Skullcandy has relied on its headphones and earphones to
bring in money. Skullcandy needs to branch out and find the next thing that will separate it for other

A force is a PUSH or a PULL. Force is what causes things to begin moving, or slow down and stop. When you pull on the rope, a force is transmitted through the rope to pull on the box and drag it along When the club strikes the ball, a force pushes to make the ball move. Your legs push on the pedals. Wheels go around and push on the road. If something is already moving, force can make it go faster, or slow down and stop. Force can also cause a change of shape. For example, in a collision, forces can change the shape of the things involved. Pressing the accelerator makes the engine supply more force to the wheels... the car goes faster. Pressing on the brake pedal causes a force in the wheels to slow the car down. Sometimes, forces can change the temperature. • 4. Analysis Of The Poem 'The Fish' By Marianne Moore Devica Davis–Kilpatrick Modernist Poetry Analysis February 25, 2015 "The Fish" Imagism is a style of poetry that employs free verse and the patterns and rhythms of common speech. The poet is free to write about whatever they want. The goal is to unify voice and image into a talking picture. Poets then have the power to make words into things. This then creates a picture for the reader. Marianne Moore is able to perfectly get her point across without directly stating it but making it clear enough. Moore's poem "The Fish" uses syllabic verse, to mimic the sound of the ocean 's waves moving in and out of the shore. Syllabic verse is a form that assigns a specific number of syllables to each line of each stanza, and then repeats that pattern throughout the poem. There are no specific rules indicating how many syllables each line should have, so the poet is given the freedom to make up whatever pattern they want. For example in the first stanza of this poem Moore writes: wade through black–jade Of the crow–blue mussel–shells, one keeps Adjusting the ash–heaps Opening and shutting itself like In terms of syllables line one has one, three in line two, nine in line three, six in line four, and eight in line five. The amount of syllables is comparable for each line of each stanza. The most obvious reason for choosing this specific syllabic pattern is to preserve the poem's rhythm throughout and to emphasize the constant cycles of nature and life. But visually, this ... • 6. How Does George Orwell Use Speech In 1984 One fundamental aspect to consider when it comes to writing novels is the way an author presents speeches and thoughts. This is a vital element to analyse with the purpose of investigating what effect they leave on the novel itself. With this essay, I shall be dealing with four parts of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty–Four in chronological order, dealing with six types of speech and thought presentations that Geoffrey Leech and Mick Short introduced. The six types shall be split into three speech presentations while the other three shall be thought presentations. The parts to be analysed are located in the appendix. Aim There are two main aims I want to present in this essay. Firstly, I shall analyse the novel parts to see how George Orwell utilizes the speech and thought presentation framework in order to create an effect on the book. Secondly, I shall discuss what effect it leaves on the book, that is, why George ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to note that although Winston is discussing some new information with Julia, he is not telling the reader any new information. Framework This type of speech is described as narrative report of speech act. This is due to the fact that the narrator does not commit entirely to what was said in the speech (Leech & Short, 2013, p. 259). Instead, the narrator opts to generalise what was said as there is minimal account of what Winston talked about (Simpson, 1993, p.21). In this case, the narrator appears in full control of the speech act. Author's aim Orwell utilizes this type of speech act so to not prolong lengthy speeches on subjects which have either already been told to the reader or are trivial to the main plot. Thus, the narrator takes over to create a smoother flow and to keep the reader interested with new information instead of repeating. [3] Direct speech ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Magnet – creates a magnetic field. The stronger it is the higher efficiency and accuracy of a speaker. It is worth noting that nowadays this is a permanent magnet as opposed to the earliest designs which used electromagnets. The most common and cheapest material used is ferrite but the most effective are alnico magnets (consist of aluminium–nickel–cobalt hence the name). Field gap – should be as small as possible to enhance magnetic induction hence improving the speaker's efficiency. Voice coil – mounted on a bobbin. This makes the system move while AC passes through. It consists of turns of copper or aluminium wire. Different cross–section wires are used. Round is most commonly used but to pack it more densely square wire (flat) is used, while hexagonal provides the best heat dissipation. Bobbin – is a short tube to which the voice coil is attached. The bobbin is connected to the centre of the cone. The most common materials used are plastic, aluminium and paper. Surrounds – these keep a cone centred and control its maximum moving range. Can be made of many different materials such as butyl rubber, synthetic foams or PVC. Spider – prevents voice coil from touching the magnet and maintains centralisation. Usually made of corrugated pressed fabric. Cone – makes changes of air pressure while moving back and forth. It has to be stiff and lightweight. Commonly made of paper pulp, ... However, many believe that the United States is keeping the standard in society of uniformity and conformity. America's society is based on the model of uniformity and conformity because of minorities not fully being accepted and other citizens not being accepting of other culture. First, minorities are often pushed to the side by the majority of American because of some believing the minorities are not as important. For instance, a bilingual speaker Rodrigues talks about his childhood and how he believed that he did not fully fit in until he conformed into what the rest of America wanted him to be. This can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States of America today is keeping the standard of uniformity and conformity because of not accepting minorities as respected people in the country. Secondly, immigrants from many different parts of the world who have come to America have felt that their cultures have been ridiculed and thus forces them to conform and become uniform. For example, the excerpt of "A Raisin in the Sun", depicts an African woman who is made fun of by a white person who doesn't fully understand her cultural clothing. This can be clearly seen when George states, "Let's face is baby, your heritage is nothing but a bunch of raggedy assed spirituals and some grass huts!" (Source 4). George has no respect for Beneatha's culture and does not try to understand where she is coming from. This a perfect example of how the majority will force minorities to leave their culture behind and conform the society's standard of uniformity. Beneatha responds to his belittling comment by saying, "You are standing there in your splendid ignorance talking about people were the first to smelt iron on the fact of the earth!" (Source 4). She reacted in this way because he is not only insulting her culture but her as a person. George's ignorant comment and Beneatha's retaliation shows that America's modern–day society is not moving towards diversity and individuality but rather moving backward into uniformity and conformity. Turntable History Paper Introduction / Turntable History When a needle, called a stylus, hits the groove of a record it glides through various peaks and valleys, which have been sculpted into the record groove creating vibrations. These vibrations are sent up into the cartridge and converted into electrical signals. These signals are outputted through an amplifier and then are heard by the human ear through speakers or headphones. In order for audio to be reproduced from a record some key equipment is always required – the turntable. • 15. Foreign Policy During World War II Foreign policy, in its most general sense, is the relations of one country to another on the international stage. It can strengthen or destroy administrations, create or tarnish legacies, and ensue or conclude conflicts. But regardless, foreign policy contributes to the creation of significant and noteworthy history that future generations can create precedents from; this includes events and decisions that occurred in the twentieth century. Throughout this time, the United States was involved in numerous conflicts and made difficult decisions that impacted the international community in occasionally significant manners. Of these incidents, the three most important involvements by the United States in world affairs include: the U.S. entry into World War II with emphasis on the European Theatre, the U.S. bombings of Japan, and President Ronald Reagan's "Tear Down this Wall" speech. On December 7th, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service bombed the U.S. naval base of Pearl Harbor in the Hawaii Territory which resulted in multiple destroyed vessels, hundreds of lost aircraft, and over 2,300 human casualties (The WWII Museum). This was quickly followed by a U.S. declaration of war against the Empire of Japan. Then on December 11th, Adolf Hitler, Führer of Nazi Germany, declared war on the U.S. to honor his Tripartite Pact with Japan. This was countered on the same day by the U.S. with its own declaration of war against Germany (The History Place). As a result of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Convention Evaluation ACP Convention Evaluation To me, the 2017 Fall National College Media Convention in Dallas, was one of the most enriching experiences I've had in my college career; not only because I was given the opportunity to visit Texas but also because I learned so much. In those five days at Dallas, I went to multiple sessions imparted by professionals in communications. I went to two the Keynote speaker's sessions where I saw Dale Hansen and Hugh Aynesworth, live. On Friday I went to the Keynote Speaker series where he spoke about the day John F. Kennedy was shot in Dallas and how he covered the story. This keynote session was different from Hansen's since Aynesworth asked questions about that day in front of the audience. He spoke about what he did when the president was shot, how many shots were fired, how he met Fidel Castrol, among other things. That same day, I went to a session titled Brand Me: Mastering Social Media to Brand yourself & Your Org. The speaker gave us ten tips to properly brand ourselves. Among the tips, there was: having similar professional pictures throughout social media sites, developing a website, developing a LinkedIn account, writing a description underneath all social media accounts, among others. The last session I attended that day was Editor– in–Grief Part 2: 10 Secrets of Very Sexy Editors. Jfk, By John Fitzgerald Kennedy On the cold blustery snow covered day of January 20, 1961, John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK) participated in the 44th presidential inauguration, when he was sworn in as the 35th President of The United States of America. The inauguration was almost canceled, as a result of the nor'easter, which pummeled the nation's capital hours before. In order for the inauguration to proceed as planned, The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, thousands of D.C. employees and almost 1,700 boy scouts worked feverously to clear the area and streets of snow that finished falling just hours before the occasion. The event went on as planned at the State Capital in front of an enormous crowd of family, friends, famous people and supporters of JFK. Among the most notable in attendance was JFK's wife Jackie, his mother Rose, Vice president Lyndon B. Johnson, Dwight D. Eisenhower and 86 year old poet Robert Frost who recited poems. This was also the first time the presidential inauguration was televised in color. With extremely unbearable weather, and a Nor'easter moving out of the area just hours before, a massive crowd gathered at the State Capital to participate witnessing history. • 21. Poem Analysis Of To His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell To his Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell, he revealed the endeavors of a man towards demanding his sweetheart's warmth and declines of the unknown mistress to lay down with the honorable man being referred to, and the refined man's reaction is to disclose to her that, if had he enough time, he could spend whole hundreds of years respecting her excellence and her beauty; be that as it may, human life is short and tomorrow is not guarantee he doesn't have this time, thus they ought to appreciate each other now while regardless they can, as nobody in death can grasp or feel delight. In his tones of adoration and slavishness reflect how the suiter guarantees that if the time stopped he would passionately worship each component of his coy mistress, however since time wait for no man he utilizes this guarantees to lure in his fancy woman to make love with him. The poem is written in the form of a love poem using the traditional love elegy format also known as 'carpe diem' and is divided into three stanzas or poetic paragraphs. It's spoken by a nameless man, who doesn't reveal any physical or biographical details about himself, to a nameless woman, who is also anonymous. The beauty of the language and the overwhelming focus on the woman's beauty, the respect shown therein, makes the poem quite progressive and intriguing. The man aims not only to smooth talk but also to impress her. To confront the concept of time, he uses biblical references to mark the permanent nature of reality. By using a story out of the Old Testament the image of the great flood that purged the earth as a start point and then used the image that Armageddon will ultimately occur at the conversion of the Jews as an end point, the man tries to show the vastness of predicted human existence. At the same time however he subtly hints toward the second more nihilistic section of the poem. This imagery it is interesting in two respects; first it suggests that physical human life has been ended by God and will be ended by him again. Thus, providing a backdrop for the speaker's argument that in reality life is temperamental and therefore procreation should not be delayed at the expense of morality. "Tom looked in the direction that the stranger pointed and beheld one of the great trees, fair and flourishing without, but rotten at the core, and saw it had been nearly hewn through, so that the first high wind was likely to blow it down"(page 325). This quotation shows imagery because Irving describes how this tree is beautiful and luscious at the top, but at the bottom of the tree it is rotting and looks like it will fall over by the next big gust of wind. "A miserable horse, whose ribs were as articulate as the bars of a gridiron, stalked about a field..." (page 322). This is an example of a simile because it compares the ribs of the horse to bars of gridiron. This just goes to show that Tom doesn't really take care of his property. D. With a variety of uses, whether it's listening to music, talking on the phone, or working out, headphones have become almost a necessity in everyday America. One aspect that we believe hinders headphones that are currently being sold today is the fact that they are all attached to a chord. Until recently, there was no such product that has come out with cordless headphones. This is where our product comes in. Our product, Best Budz, will be the first of its kind wireless headphones. We have created a headphone that is seemingly the same size as the apple headphones, without the cord attached to them. We are trying to use simplicity at its finest. The headphones will be magnetic and that way the consumer will be less prone to losing the ear buds. We have also come up with a solution for when a headphone does indeed go missing. We have installed a device into the ear buds to let the consumer know when a headphone is farther than three feet apart from the other. When this happens, the headphones will start to beep and vibrate to ensure the consumer can locate the missing earpiece. We want to clarify any concerns that come with small Ear Buds being wireless, especially the question of where do I put the headphones when they are currently not being used. This is where a use of a tie in product will come into play. We have created a new case that will be sold for major types of wireless phones, such as the iPhone and any other smart ... The Sonnet Form and Its Meaning: Shakespeare's Sonnet 65 The Sonnet Form and its Meaning: Shakespeare Sonnet 65 The sonnet, being one of the most traditional and recognized forms of poetry, has been used and altered in many time periods by writers to convey different messages to the audience. The strict constraints of the form have often been used to parallel the subject in the poem. Many times, the first three quatrains introduce the subject and build on one another, showing progression in the poem. The final couplet brings closure to the poem by bringing the main ideas together. On other occasions, the couplet makes a statement of irony or refutes the main idea with a counter statement. It leaves the reader with a last impression of what the author is trying to say. Shakespeare's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A siege surrounds and kills a city. To batter something is to hit and pound it heavily, just as time does this to the nature in summer when the bad weather, cold months come in. The progression of the days and time leading to summer's end is what batters the beautiful "honey breath." Steel gates and rocks, again images associated as being immortal to time's progression, are eventually "decayed" by time, so of course summer's fragile beauty could not hold out. In a battle, an "impregnable" force is one that cannot be penetrated or destroyed. As rocks are here presented as strong and impregnable, time is so strong that it even eventually destroys them. "Gates of steel" that usually keep the evil forces out of a place in battle also eventually decay in old age. The whole metaphor of summer versus time proves time to always be the victory. Nothing can defeat it. The third quatrain introduces a new object that is also vulnerable to time, love. It starts with "O fearful meditation!" commenting on the scary and sad thoughts the speaker has had in the previous two quatrains. The anguish of the speaker has reached its pinnacle and all three words have accents on the first syllable, showing that they are heavily stressed and important to show the speaker's tone. There is a plethora of American authors that use various writing techniques to transform their ideas into works of art. Walter "Walt" Whitman is one of the most famous authors that used a variety of styles in many of his poems. Many of his works of art affected the population and have influenced the country. He has created multiple poems that have become popular over the years and will be remembered for years to come. Walt Whitman comes from an impecunious family that has a tremendous amount of love for their home country, America. His father took him out of school when he was young to help with the household funds. As he grew older, Whitman was in and out of different occupations and he was always moving businesses. He started out as a teacher, but most of his jobs involved journalism, writing, and editing. With his experiences growing up and in jobs, he was able to take the knowledge he gained and apply it to his writing. Journalism allowed writing to be one of his major skills, and using a multitude of writing techniques became a big part of his work. One of his most well known works of poetry is Leaves of Grass, a collection of poems, originally published in 1855. Although he could not afford to make many copies, he still earned success as he made an impact on the people around him. The style of the poems in that book fell away from traditional, organized poetry. It was Whitman's first popular piece of literature that expressed his transcendentalist view of the world. As the book became more popular, there were many updated editions. The 1891 edition contains a favored poem named "A Noiseless Patient Spider." This short poem is a valid example of the different styles Whitman uses throughout his literature. Whitman is able to get across the themes of this poem while using repetition and other freestyle writing techniques. Walt Whitman uses the writing style of repetition to convey the themes of separateness and the desire for connection and eternal life in his poem "A Noiseless Patient Spider." The Fish occurs in a body of water from the perspective of a fish with a third–person omniscient speaker who describes all the actions occurring. The poem has a unique line structure where each two lines of the stanza become more indented than the previous two lines before resetting for the next stanza. Moore also uses poetic device such as Metaphor, Simile, Alliteration, Rhyme, and Enjambment to form each stanza. The Fish begins with a metaphor describing the movement of the fish as well as what the water looks like, "The Fish/wade/through black jade" (324), (note the first stanza only makes sense with the inclusion of the title). The use of "black jade" not only allows the reader to see the rough surface of the rocks the fish is passing over, but also helps the reader visualize the dark green qualities of the water. • 41. Straight From The Heart By Fredrick Douglass Analysis Fredrick Douglass stood in front of the Ladies' Anti–Slavery Society on July 5th, 1852. Douglass' speech, What to the Slave is the Fourth of July, touches on the universal theme of racial injustice. He spoke passionately, and deliberately about the cruel life as a slave, while Americans celebrated being free when they couldn't even free people in their own country. He captured the attention of everyone standing in Rochester, New York. 153 years laters on July 11th, 2005, Marie Fatayi– Williams delivered a powerful, moving speech, Straight From the Heart. Every listener in London stood listening and unconsciously gravitating to her story and feeling her exact emotions. She stood heart broken over the loss of her innocent son, because of evil acts of terrorism. Two completely different people. Two completely different topics. Though their subjects are polar opposites, both speaker employ ethos and pathos to appeal to their audiences and connect to them through the heartlessness, and hatred of people and their actions. Douglass's voice entered every listener and moved them. "I say with a sad sense of the disparity between us. I am not included within the pale of the glorious celebration. Your high independence only reveals the immeasurable distance between us" (Faigley page 378). This was his opening. Just by that sentence you can hear the pain, the anger, and the sadness in his voice. He know first hand that he is not treated like he is equal. He was robbed of his freedom and his dignity. People are drawn to him because he speaks the hard truth. He explains the unimaginable to delicate ears. Douglass explains the way they were treated and talked about. " The fate of many a slave has depended upon the turn of a single card; and many a child has been snatched from the arms of its mother by bargains arranged in a state of brutal drunkenness" (Faigley page 384) Any mother with tender hearts would be moved by those words. He persuades people to side with him, and feel for him. He wants people to be upset by his words so that things will get changed. • 49. Music Influence On Music Music is an art form and cultural activity that has been enjoyed for centuries by many generations of humans. As time goes on, music preferences change and along with that, the way individuals consume music also changes. Firstly, looking at my age group; we were born in the 2000's and this is also when the Internet had just come out. The internet and the development of other technologies, facilitated the shift to digital music consumption for this generation. For example, Spotify is a music streaming service that was released in 2008 and has become very popular among this generation. Many other music streaming services have followed Spotify such as Apple Music, as many consumers like to have access to a wide array of songs through the web, which helps them avoid the inconvenience of having to download all the music. Also, portable music players such as the iPod Nano are really enjoyed by people in my age group, as it allows them to have access to their music from practically anywhere. Finally, another advancement that has really been enjoyed by consumers in my age group are wireless headphones. Although stereo headphones have been around since the 1950's, products like the Apple's AirPods are popular with individuals in my age group, as many are looking for wireless electronics. Secondly, looking at my parent's age group, they had many sources of music consumption. My parents listened to music through cassettes, CDs, and vinyl's through their childhood to young adulthood. Vinyl records first came out in the 1950's, about a decade before my parents were born, but they still spent a lot of time listening to music through vinyl turntables which they had at their homes. To this day, they have some at my home, due to the amazing sound quality they deliver. Cassette tapes were also released in the 1960's, so my parents also listened to them through cassette players. My father tells me he owned the Sony Walkman when he was younger, and that was the portable music device of their time. Finally, when CD's came out in the 1980's, my parents tell me that they used them a lot and to this day, still use them to play music when in the car sometimes. • 51. Analysis Of `` Because I Could Not Stop For Death `` Themes of death all ring loud and clear in Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for Death", Donne's "Death, be not proud", and Cherry's "Alzheimer's". The poems are not explicitly about the act of dying, but death is personified or even foreshadowed in the work. Each piece has a different tone when referencing Death. Two of the poems reference Death by name, the last poem doesn't specifically speak about dying or death per se, but based on the title, "Alzheimer's", it is clear that death is imminent for the man in the poem. First, Emily Dickinson's poem "Because I could not stop for Death" is obvious in its theme of death in comparison to the others listed in the previous paragraph. The narrator of this poem uses a figure of speech to describe Death as a kind person taking the time to pick her up since she was too busy for him (Dickinson 566). Death is described as warm and kind throughout most of this poem, with only two stanzas depicting a sinister feeling when she actually realizes that she is dead. The speaker tells about a carriage ride with Death, a metaphor for the act of dying. This poem, in fact, is built on metaphors, alliterations, anaphora, paradox and it's written in lyric form; it's got a beat to it when read. The poem contains six stanzas with four lines in each making it a quatrain. "Because I could not stop for Death" also uses symbols in its text to establish the speaker's lifetime. The speaker tells of the carriage ride past the school where children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. A Woman’s Place in Society Explored in Marge Piercy’s... Society has a way of placing unrealistic expectations on women. By using television, magazines, billboards, and even toys we see a mold of what women are supposed to look like. In other words the perfect woman should look like a Barbie Doll. In Marge Piercy's, "Barbie Doll," we find a girl child growing up through the adolescence stage characterized by appearances and barbarity. Piercy uses lots of imagery to describe the struggles the girl experiences during her teenage years and the effects that can happen. In the first stanza we see the beginning of an ideal image being stained in the girls mind. She was "...presented dolls that did pee–pee and miniature GE ovens and irons and wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the second stanza "She went to and fro apologizing" (10). Piercy uses imagery to show us the ugliness the girl feels by saying, "Everyone saw a fat nose on thick legs" (11). Women are sometimes pressured to act in a way that is fake such as wearing a smile when they don't want to or exercising and dieting. The girl was told to do these things as if to say act like a lady. The child's "...good nature wore out like a fan belt" (15–16). To the reader this line says that the girl is giving up. She then goes on to kill herself by cutting off her nose and legs. The girl turned to suicide because of the emotional suffering caused by not fitting the profile of a Barbie doll. In the fourth stanza is where ironic imagery comes into play. "Doesn't she look pretty? everyone said." (23) The girl was finally recognized as pretty but she was laying in a casket when it happened. The girl has finally achieved society's goal for her, but only in death. Piercy shows us this by saying "Consummation at last" (24). Even though it is no longer 1936, we still live in a world where society places pressure on women to look and act a certain way. The speaker, Marge Piercy, is trying to reach out to the girls or women that are taking society's expectations so seriously. She's telling us that by doing so our self–esteem can be lowered and our emotions can be affected so severely that things like this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Sonnet Form and its Meaning: Shakespeare Sonnet 65 The sonnet, being one of the most traditional and recognized forms of poetry, has been used and altered in many time periods by writers to convey different messages to the audience. The speaker makes a good argument here, and the tone of the poem is introduced as hopelessness in the survival of beauty. True to sonnet form, the second quatrain confirms the previously presented argument, and poses a similar question as the anguish of the speaker and the dilemma of time's progression are heightened. Line 5 starts with "O," eliciting the speaker's great anguish at the predicament of time and it is accented, breaking the traditional iambic pentameter meter in which Shakespeare writes: O, how shall summer's honey breath hold out Against the wrackful siege of batt'ring days, When rocks impregnable are not so stout, Nor gates of steel so strong, but time decays? The imagery is powerful. Summer is personified as battling against time. Summer, in reality, is a time when life begins to die out as the colder months come in, so nature and the plants are in fragile condition. Compare And Contrast Accidental Time, And 'The Pedestrian' Mexico City and Los Angeles, two immense cities of very different characteristics and cultures, are brought together by Octavio Paz's "Identical Time" and Ray Bradbury's "The Pedestrian". Because through featuring certain individuals as particularly alive in their cities, they each have, in common, a theme of aliveness: in "Identical Time", the old man is alive in the busy dawn of the Mexico City, and in "The Pedestrian", the protagonist Mr. Mead is alive in the quiet night of a future Los Angeles envisioned by Bradbury. Though manifested as stillness in "Identical Time" and, quite the contrary, motion in "The Pedestrian", aliveness signifies in both, likewise, as living a human life freely in the present and through the beauty of nature. Furthermore, with their portrayals of the individual's struggles and quests to be alive in their own cities, the two pieces speak together to how both cities, and indeed city lives in general, might hinder our own aliveness and, by that, humanity. In "Identical Time", aliveness is attributed to a state of stillness, against the backdrop of constant movement that is Mexico City. Mexico City is personified and portrayed as under movement and action in the very first stanza: "turning on its shadow / searching always searching itself" (Paz 1). Full of character, environment, and persuasion, the performance he gives is not only entertaining, it is a great example of the do's and don'ts of speech giving. The character that Tyler plays, Tony Stark, is the most important part of his speech. It is quintessential that he nails the idea of the billionaire, or else his argument falls apart. Tyler portrays Mr. Stark quite convincingly for a sophomore in high school, and because of it, the audience is willing to believe the atmosphere he sets. I have decided to take a thematic approach to this discussion rather than spend set time talking about one poem at a time, only for you to grow confused at the end when thinking about which poem a certain idea has come from as I move from one to other. Instead I've decided to compare four of my favourite Heaney poems under three headings. The poems I have chosen are 'A Constable Calls', ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Heaney cares for his father, for all of his life he has cared for his father, whether that be while he was watching "arithmetic and fear" while his father dealt with the constable or while he thought of his father working, "Touching, inspecting, separating one stalk from the other" in his garden. Evidence of the love being something unspoken of or simply being present is in the last line of 'A Call' when Heaney says "I nearly said I loved him". Without a doubt there is love between Heaney and his father and throughout Heaney's work he explains to us how this relationship operated. Moving on to the second them I've found to be consistent in the poetry of Seamus Heaney is the stark contrasting theme to Love of being in isolation and alone. On many occasions we see the speaker in the poems left to his own devices, alone to think about aspects of his life. The isolation is seen by the poet as positive, negative or indifferent varies throughout his poems. For example in 'A Constable Calls' we can see a sense of isolation in how the life of his parents works. To Heaney, his father is the symbol of authority, as most children see their father. But when the Constable comes to visit their home he sees, possibly for the first time a sense of "fear" in his father while being questioned by the "boot of the law".
