The student created a short film and ancillary tasks of a film poster and review to promote the film. The poster incorporates elements from the film like genre, plot details, and props to give audiences a first impression. Similarly, the review uses film terminology, screenshots and descriptions to depict the genre and plot. Through consistency between the ancillary tasks and film, an accurate representation is created to inform and appeal to audiences. The combination is effective promotion as the poster and review speak to audiences and prepare them for the film.

EVALUATION QUESTION:
2
2. INTRO
• My ancillary tasks consisted of analysing and creating
short film posters and short film reviews.
• My main product is the creation of my own short film.
• I feel these two tasks go hand in hand when trying to
develop a film and sell it to the audience.
3. ANCILLARY
The object of my ancillary is
promotion. Promotion is a key aspect
in selling a film. I created a film poster
like other successful short films have
done e.g. American hell.
4. MAIN TASK
• My main task to create my own short film included me
filming and editing and by the end my ancillary tasks will
be what's promoting my film.
5. POSTER AND FILM
• A film poster is one of the most important parts of promotion as its usually the
audiences first impression of the film.
• Firstly the genre of the short is conveyed to the audience by the mise en scene with
the low key lighting , costume and the tag line “a film about substance abuse”
because the viewer would put this in the social realism / drama genre. This links to
the main product as the audience prior to watching the film loosely knows what the
film is about based of normal conventions of this genre.
• The title monotonous means dull, tedious, and repetitious; lacking in variety and
interest. Therefore giving insight to the audience about the plot and the character.
And scenes such where George is repeating his daily routine link with the film titles
meaning.
• Props used on the poster such as cigarettes and empty beer cans also link with
scenes in the film where these same props are used.
6. IS THIS EFFECTIVE?
• This is an effective link between the main task and
ancillary as the poster incorporates many features of the
film.
• This makes the cooperation between the two tasks
effective as the first impression to the audience gives
them a good Idea if they will like the film or not and this
is what these products do, the incorporation is effective
in this aspect.
• Also through my audience feedback I found my peers
believe this poster is effective.
7. REVIEW AND FILM
• A film review almost makes the decision for someone choosing to watch a certain
film.
• The use of jargon in my review gave the reader an insight to the film plot line and
genre. For example “substance abuse” “drug experimentation” and “realism”. These
phrases depict a character developing a addiction and that its based off a important
subject, just like scenes in my short film show.
• An image used in the review is a screenshot from the short itself. This gives the
reader a physical view into an image of the film. The image itself establishes the
character as healthy (indicated by the bowl of cereal and high key lighting) but the
other establishes the character as unhealthy (indicated by the mise en scene in the
form of costume and props) therefore revealing evidence of the plot.
• Within the review the genre and audience is clearly identified through use of the
images, jargon and description. This runs parallel with the short film as both are done
to create an impression on the audience.
8. IS THIS EFFECTIVE?
• With the combination of the film review and main task as
the consistency between the two creates genre, plot and
character identity. With this through use of jargon,
images and combination with scenes of the film this will
create a true representation of monotonous. The
audience with this knowledge will decide to either each
the film or ignore it. The promotion is just as important as
the film because you are speaking to the audience and I
believe I've done this effectively in by poster, review and
film.
