2. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION
MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT AND WHY?
3. TimeInc. UK
This distribution company have over 100 brands globally, and has millions of customers. It has over 28
million global users on their website each month. One of the magazines Time Inc. publish is NME, their
target audience is similar to mine i.e. young adults therefore this would be a good company to distribute my
magazine. The fact NME is also a music magazine shows that TimeInc. is capable of distributing it. TimeInc.
UK also use multiplatform ways to distribute media; web and also music channel MTV which is aimed at the
target audience of young adults.
TimeInc. is a successful business and are professionals in the distribution of magazines, therefore my
magazine would be marketed professionally as they have a lot of experienced.
4. Bauer Media UK
Bauer Media is a UK media brand network, distributing many music magazines and more across the country.
Bauer Media UK is part of Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately-owned media group. It has 25
million consumers, they’re Britain’s biggest magazine publisher. It has publishes magazines like Q and
kerrang. Kerrangs target audience is people ages 17-24 therefore this is a similar age to my target audience
of young adults. They also own a number of radio stations including kiss FM however this is not completely
aimed at my target audience specifically more on a wider scale.
Using Bauer Media UK to market and distribute my magazine would be hugely beneficial as they have have
a lot of experience in music magazine genres. There might be competition into getting this company to
distribute my magazine due to many others being similar, therefore my magazine would have to stand out
and be unique.
5. Bauer Media and TimeInc. UK both have certain aspects which push me towards each of them choosing
which is tight to distribute my magazine; as they’re two very successful marketing businesses when it comes
to the music magazine sector. But moreover TimeInc. UK would be a better option, due to their different
platforms including MTV channel which is aimed particularly at my audience and they could use this to
promote my magazine at both male and female (even though mine is aimed more towards the female
audience it's still the same age groups). This would mean it being efficiently marketing boosting sales
drastically.
Vertical and horizontal integration is very important in distributing magazines. Integration in simple words
is joining things together to make them work. Vertical integration is when companies own different
companies within the same selling genre however horizontal integrations is when companies own
companies of the same structure e.g radio/tv. Meaning this would benefit my magazine giving it popularity
through multi-platform media streams.
Synergy could be used as a method of distribution through the brand of the magazine, e.g. ECHO having its
magazine and its webiste with some taster magazines on there. So these work together to market the brand.
