Inspection & corrosion engineer with more than 5 ‘years’ experience in Essar oil refinery (Vadinar).
Experience in corrosion monitoring and mitigation, on-stream, turnaround and shutdown inspection of refinery piping,
pressure vessels (including but not limited to drums & vessels, exchangers, columns etc.), steam boilers and refinery
storage tanks, including experience in sea water, sour and H2S service.
PRESENT ASSIGNMENTS:
 Inspection of storage Tanks and cross-country pipelines: -
 Preparation & implementation of Inspection plan for crude oil Storage tanks, cross-country pipelines, Sea Water
intake, and Jetty units as per OISD-129, OISD-141, API-570, OISD-130, and API-653 guidelines.
 Cathodic protection system monitoring: Quarterly pipe to soil & Tank to soil potential monitoring carried out for
underground lines & 12-nos crude oil Tanks within acceptable potential range -0.85 to -1.5.
 Salt test<2ppm, WFT, DFT coating inspection of Tanks roof from Stanvac® coating
 Identified internal inspection activities as per API-653 & NDE contractor manpower co-ordination for Crude Oil
Storage Tank 80-meter (Dia) for timely completion of shutdown jobs.
 Inspection analysis & Surveillance of NDE test like (MPT)Magnetic particle testing of bottom plate weld joints,
(LFET)Low frequency Electromagnetic testing of Tank bottom plates, Vacuum box test of tank bottom plate weld
joint.
 Conducted Advanced NDT through external agency - Acoustic Emission testing (TANKPAC® by M/s Physical
Acoustics Corpn.) for assessment of 5-nos of 80-meter crude oil tanks bottom plates and report findings.
 Intelligent pigging-MFL technique adopted for corrosion assessment of 21km (24’’-size) product pipelines &
19km (48’’-size) crude line from offshore to onshore by TD Williamson® India pvt ltd.
 Quality assurance and Quality control of newly construction of 92-meter Crude oil storage tank:
 Review & approval of QAP/ ITP for newly construction of storage tanks.
 Continues monitoring of Foundation Pad construction with ‘HDPE’ sheet layout for any damage.
 Inspection of Cathodic protection CP-system grid layout on Tank foundation pad and material check.
 Physical inspection of materials like plates, structures, fittings, piping’s and correlation with Test certificate.
 Inspection of Tank plates surface preparation after Grit/shot blasting as per Sa2.5 standard and plate painting
inspection as per specification.

 Continues monitoring of stage wise Bottom and annular plate welding sequence and provided QA/QC inspection
assistance as per API 650.
 Interpretation of Radiography film as per Section-V & API 650.
 NDT test during construction of tank like Vacuum box test of bottom plate, roof plates, Oil test of Shell to annular
plate joint, Floating test for pontoon weld joint and shell joint leaks.
 Risk based Inspection Implementation:
 Review & Compilation of data required for RBI implementation in meridium software for COT/jetty/SWI/Cross
country piping unit’s.
 Good knowledge in Meridium software for IM-Module, TM-Module & RBI-inspection.
 Root cause analysis:
 Frequent 30’’-SRU Tail gas line leak RCA carried out with successful outcome and findings implementation.
 SRU acid gas Boiler, tube to tube sheet seal joint Failure root cause analysis done. And suggested new ferrule
design to civil department for implementation by RCA recommendation.
 Vendor Inspection:
 Attended pre-planning meetings to inspection requirements and approve ITP.
 Quality plans, repair procedures and weld procedure specifications to pre-quality requirements in procedures
work instructions and records.
 Contact with equipment, purchasing and vendors, contract inspection agencies - principally at the level of
engineers, plant management and Quality Assurance/Quality Control management and staff.
 Keep abreast of latest developments in inspection methods, standards, practices, procedures and Quality
Assurance/Quality Control concepts.
SHUTDOWN EXPERTISE:
 Essar Refinery turnaround Sept-Oct 2015:
 Detailed preparation of Shutdown inspection work list.
 Lead plant Inspector for implementation of Shutdown inspection plan by managing 6-nos of hired inspection
Engineer’s(TUV) for inspection of static equipment’s in FCCU, DHDS, SRU, ARU, SWS, SPU units on targeted
deadline.
 Timely discussion & decision making on critical tasks for providing recommendations to maintenance team for
any surprises during shutdown findings.
 Internal inspection of DHDS/SRU Reactor, Heater (Radiant & convection tubes, burner assembly, refractory
walls), vessels, columns, heat exchangers, SRU-combustion chambers, Boilers.
 Successful supervision, review, interpretation & acceptance of various NDT reports like UT, DP, RT, MPT, IRIS,
LFET, ECT.
 Co-ordination with various departments for timely completion of shutdown jobs.
 Essar Refinery turnaround Sept-Oct 2011:
 Hydro test inspection of Static equipment’s like vessel, heat-exchangers, fin-fan coolers under Senior inspector
guidance in CDU-2 unit.

 Internal visual inspection & thickness survey coordinator for critical equipment’s like Fired heaters, Columns,
heat exchangers, vessels in CDU-2 & Treaters unit.
 Supervision & review of PWHT chart for low alloy steel like P5, P9, P11, P22 materials during new process
scheme in shutdown jobs as per approved WPS procedure.
 Internal inspection of world’s tallest CDU column for inspection of different types of tray & internal surface of
shell.
 C-scan UT of Treater unit vessel for lamination check in shell plate.
 DCU commissioning project Dec-2011:
 Coordination of inspection activates by managing hired inspection Engineers.
 Inspected Supports of pipelines in 3rd tier pipe rack area with all safety precautions and found out more than 100
improper pipe supports and recommendations to project team for Rectification.
 Carried out PMI of small bore alloy steel erected pipe lines and found out more than 45-nos of low grade carbon
steel pipes in place of alloy steel pipes. Recommended for replacement on priority during commissioning jobs.

 In-Service and Out-of-Service Inspection of Static equipment’s
 Pressure Vessels-Drums/Columns etc.
 Heat Exchangers (TEMA and API 660)
 Air Fin Coolers (API 661)
 Process piping (ASME B 31.3 and API 570)
 Above ground Atmospheric Storage tanks-floating and cone roof (API 650 & 653)
 Steam boilers (IBR).
 Expertise in use of Thermography camera (Mikron) for finding hot-spot locations in SRU combustion chamber,
Heater box, Thermal oxidizers, Reformer tubes, Insulated pipelines and Report analysis in software (Mikrospec).
Good knowledge in emissivity difference and principle of thermography.
 Inspection of Pressure Safety Valves (PSV), refurbishment & testing.
 Physical Incoming material inspection at warehouse like pipes, valves, steam traps, plates, static equipment’s etc.
and correlation of materials with Original Test certificate (MTC) as per requirements.
 Corrosion control Methods: Supervision, Specification preparation, Specification review and Inspection of following
corrosion control methods:
 Painting: Surface preparation, Application of Zinc primers, Epoxy base mid coat and Polyurethane base, top
coats.
 Application of proprietary ceramic/glass flake base coatings from Belzona®, and Corrocoat® to combat salt
water corrosion. Hands on experience also in inspection of conventional coating such as FRP, GRP etc.
 Wrapping Coating by using hot applied Bitumen Tape followed by holiday testing.
 Fire proofing
 Pre shutdown Passivation procedures as per NACE RP 170 for DHDS heater.
 Cathodic protection monitoring for storage tanks (API 651).

PRESENT ASSIGNMENTS:  Inspection of storage Tanks and cross-country pipelines: -  Preparation & implementation of Inspection plan for crude oil Storage tanks, cross-country pipelines, Sea Water intake, and Jetty units as per OISD-129, OISD-141, API-570, OISD-130, and API-653 guidelines.  Cathodic protection system monitoring: Quarterly pipe to soil & Tank to soil potential monitoring carried out for underground lines & 12-nos crude oil Tanks within acceptable potential range -0.85 to -1.5.  Salt test<2ppm, WFT, DFT coating inspection of Tanks roof from Stanvac® coating  Identified internal inspection activities as per API-653 & NDE contractor manpower co-ordination for Crude Oil Storage Tank 80-meter (Dia) for timely completion of shutdown jobs.  Inspection analysis & Surveillance of NDE test like (MPT)Magnetic particle testing of bottom plate weld joints, (LFET)Low frequency Electromagnetic testing of Tank bottom plates, Vacuum box test of tank bottom plate weld joint.  Conducted Advanced NDT through external agency - Acoustic Emission testing (TANKPAC® by M/s Physical Acoustics Corpn.) for assessment of 5-nos of 80-meter crude oil tanks bottom plates and report findings.  Intelligent pigging-MFL technique adopted for corrosion assessment of 21km (24’’-size) product pipelines & 19km (48’’-size) crude line from offshore to onshore by TD Williamson® India pvt ltd.  Quality assurance and Quality control of newly construction of 92-meter Crude oil storage tank:  Review & approval of QAP/ ITP for newly construction of storage tanks.  Continues monitoring of Foundation Pad construction with ‘HDPE’ sheet layout for any damage.  Inspection of Cathodic protection CP-system grid layout on Tank foundation pad and material check.  Physical inspection of materials like plates, structures, fittings, piping’s and correlation with Test certificate.  Inspection of Tank plates surface preparation after Grit/shot blasting as per Sa2.5 standard and plate painting inspection as per specification.
  • 2. mithunb27@@gmail.com Page 2 of 4  Continues monitoring of stage wise Bottom and annular plate welding sequence and provided QA/QC inspection assistance as per API 650.  Interpretation of Radiography film as per Section-V & API 650.  NDT test during construction of tank like Vacuum box test of bottom plate, roof plates, Oil test of Shell to annular plate joint, Floating test for pontoon weld joint and shell joint leaks.  Risk based Inspection Implementation:  Review & Compilation of data required for RBI implementation in meridium software for COT/jetty/SWI/Cross country piping unit’s.  Good knowledge in Meridium software for IM-Module, TM-Module & RBI-inspection.  Root cause analysis:  Frequent 30’’-SRU Tail gas line leak RCA carried out with successful outcome and findings implementation.  SRU acid gas Boiler, tube to tube sheet seal joint Failure root cause analysis done. SHUTDOWN EXPERTISE:  Essar Refinery turnaround Sept-Oct 2015:  Detailed preparation of Shutdown inspection work list.  Lead plant Inspector for implementation of Shutdown inspection plan by managing 6-nos of hired inspection Engineer’s(TUV) for inspection of static equipment’s in FCCU, DHDS, SRU, ARU, SWS, SPU units on targeted deadline.  Timely discussion & decision making on critical tasks for providing recommendations to maintenance team for any surprises during shutdown findings.  Internal inspection of DHDS/SRU Reactor, Heater (Radiant & convection tubes, burner assembly, refractory walls), vessels, columns, heat exchangers, SRU-combustion chambers, Boilers.  Successful supervision, review, interpretation & acceptance of various NDT reports like UT, DP, RT, MPT, IRIS, LFET, ECT.  Co-ordination with various departments for timely completion of shutdown jobs.  Essar Refinery turnaround Sept-Oct 2011:  Hydro test inspection of Static equipment’s like vessel, heat-exchangers, fin-fan coolers under Senior inspector guidance in CDU-2 unit.
  • 3. mithunb27@@gmail.com Page 3 of 4  Internal visual inspection & thickness survey coordinator for critical equipment’s like Fired heaters, Columns, heat exchangers, vessels in CDU-2 & Treaters unit.  Supervision & review of PWHT chart for low alloy steel like P5, P9, P11, P22 materials during new process scheme in shutdown jobs as per approved WPS procedure.  Internal inspection of world’s tallest CDU column for inspection of different types of tray & internal surface of shell.  C-scan UT of Treater unit vessel for lamination check in shell plate.  DCU commissioning project Dec-2011:  Coordination of inspection activates by managing hired inspection Engineers.  Inspected Supports of pipelines in 3rd tier pipe rack area with all safety precautions and found out more than 100 improper pipe supports and recommendations to project team for Rectification.  Carried out PMI of small bore alloy steel erected pipe lines and found out more than 45-nos of low grade carbon steel pipes in place of alloy steel pipes. Recommended for replacement on priority during commissioning jobs. ON JOB EXPERTISE:  In-Service and Out-of-Service Inspection of Static equipment’s  Pressure Vessels-Drums/Columns etc.  Heat Exchangers (TEMA and API 660)  Air Fin Coolers (API 661)  Process piping (ASME B 31.3 and API 570)  Above ground Atmospheric Storage tanks-floating and cone roof (API 650 & 653)  Steam boilers (IBR).  Expertise in use of Thermography camera (Mikron) for finding hot-spot locations in SRU combustion chamber, Heater box, Thermal oxidizers, Reformer tubes, Insulated pipelines and Report analysis in software (Mikrospec). Good knowledge in emissivity difference and principle of thermography.  Inspection of Pressure Safety Valves (PSV), refurbishment & testing.  Physical Incoming material inspection at warehouse like pipes, valves, steam traps, plates, static equipment’s etc. and correlation of materials with Original Test certificate (MTC) as per requirements.  Corrosion control Methods: Supervision, Specification preparation, Specification review and Inspection of following corrosion control methods:  Painting: Surface preparation, Application of Zinc primers, Epoxy base mid coat and Polyurethane base, top coats.  Application of proprietary ceramic/glass flake base coatings from Belzona®, and Corrocoat® to combat salt water corrosion.
