The Pros And Cons Of Environmental Pollution
Environmental health is your wellbeing of your surroundings or conditions in which a person,
animal, or plant lives or operates. There things effect your air pollution like carbon monoxide you
can get things like asthma. Also there clean water there different type of water depend where you
live. Finally there is way to improve your environmental health and those around you.
Cars and trucks produce air pollution throughout their life, including pollution emitted during
vehicle operation, refueling, manufacturing, and disposal. Additional emissions are associated with
the refini ary and secondary pollution. Primary pollution is emitted directly into the atmosphere;
secondary pollution results from chemical reactions between pollutants in the atmosphere. The
following are the major pollutants from motor vehicles. These particles of soot and metals give
smog its murky color. Fine particles less than one–tenth the diameter of a human hair pose the most
serious threat to human health, as they can penetrate deep into lungs. PM is a direct primary
pollution and a secondary pollution from hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxides. Diesel
exhaust is a major contributor to PM pollution. This odorless, colorless, and poisonous gas is
formed by the combustion of fossil fuels such as gasoline and is emitted primarily from cars and
trucks. When inhaled, CO blocks oxygen from the brain, heart, and other vital organs. Fetuses,
newborn children, and people with chronic illnesses are especially susceptible to the effects of CO.
Asthma is a chronic disease involving the airways in the lungs. These airways, or bronchial tubes,
allow air to come in and out of the lungs. If you have asthma your airways are always inflamed.
They become even more swollen and the muscles around the airways can tighten when something
triggers your symptoms. This makes it difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs, causing
symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and/or chest tightness.
For many asthma sufferers, timing of these symptoms is closely related to

Personal Essay : My Favorite Vacation
My Vacation
This will be my story on my favorite vacation. This vacation was my most recent one in which i
went on a cruise. A cruise is taking a ship to other destinations throughout the world. The cruise
That i was on Went to 3 different islands. The following will be why this cruise was my favorite
vacation ive ever been on.
The first place we went to was Florida. We flew down to florida in order to board the ship but we
got 1 night before we boarded the ship. Usually when we go down to florida the night before the
cruise we end up going to a nice restaurant and this restaurant was especially fancy. When we first
got there we got to our hotel and then walked around to find a nice place to eat. This particular steak
house was unlike anything i've ever been in before. We walked up to the front and read a sign said
"formal attire only" but we were in shorts and t shirts. As we were reading it the owner of the
restaurant came out and welcomed us inside. We get inside they sit us down in this beautiful circular
booth. They came and served us water and brought out a platter with an array of vegetables and
fruits. Cucumbers, Oranges, Etc. Multiple servers would walk by and make sure we were fine,
Service like ive never experienced before. This food was NOT cheap at all we did not expect it from
the restaurant. I ordered a lobster bisque to start off and it was the most fantastic soup i've ever had
in my life. After that i ordered a steak gorgonzola and that was absolutely phenomenal. The store
owner was very polite and he himself came around to check on us and see how we were doing. By
far the most memorable restaurant i've ever been to. Then we went home and went to bed to get
ready for the cruise in the morning. We woke up at 5 am When it was pouring rain to get on the
cruise ship the ship was absolutely phenomenal. I'll get into that at a later time. The first Island we
went to is called Grand Turk In Turks and Caicos. Now this island we have already gone to
previously so we knew what we were gonna do there. The second we got off the ship we took a half
a mile walk down the beach to this place called "Jack's Shack" where they serve THE BEST Jerked
chicken and play music and serve drinks to you while you lay

Our slogan reflects our difference because while most establishments offer healthy choices on their
menu, our entire menu is researched to be a healthy choice. There are three ways a customer can
purchase food. They may sit down at one of the 68 seats in the dining room and get full service from
a waitperson. A separate take–out counter services those who wish to pick up their food. Most take–
out food is prepared to order with orders coming from the telephone. Delivery (an indirect form of
take–out) is available at certain times and to a limited area.
INDUSTRY ANALYSIS
Market Trends & the Future
The population and demographics of Nea Smirni have increased in the last years. Local businesses
are increasing at a rate of 6% yearly.
The idea of a health consciousness through nutritional awareness and dietary change has been
slowly building for the last years. The extensive studies and new Food Guide Pyramid have given
everyone a new definition of a balanced, healthy diet. This is not a fad but a true dietary trend
backed by the scientific and medical community, the media, the government, and endorsed by the
big food manufacturers.
As people want to stay home more and cook less our strategy of delivering prepared quality meals
on a weekly or monthly arrangement may be a widespread accepted new way of eating.
The restaurant industry is highly competitive as there is a large

My Favorite Food
Ever since I was a little boy, pizza has always had a special place in my heart. From pizza day in the
school cafeteria to pizza parties at sleep away camp, there was nothing more exciting than when that
cardboard box was opened to reveal a round pie with eight delicious slices waiting to be devoured.
Early on I learned that everybody eats their pizza differently. There are those who fold their slices in
half, those who eat their slices with two hands, and those who (dare I say) like to cut their pizza with
a fork and knife. Some people soak up the olive oil with a napkin, while others don't mind a greasy
slice. Some people like the crust, while others live for that first bite. Some people decorate their
slices with spices, while others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pizza is thin enough that two people can split a large pie. In fact, ordering the small pie for $2
less is not even economical.
There is no better place to digest Grimaldi's than on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade overlooking
lower Manhattan. It's the only place in the city that I can be assured to find at least one bride and
groom snapping photos every time I'm there. On weekend afternoons it's common to see five or six
couples taking wedding photos. Walking back on the bridge, one feels content, satisfied,
accomplished, and [insert positive feeling here]. There are few experiences that rival this.
The spring of 2004 took me to Italy where I spent a semester studying in Florence. At the time, I
was not a big foodie, so I rarely kept track of where I ate. Today, however, if I was to return, my
entire trip would be dictated by food. Although Florence is a very Americanized city, my apartment
was a 20 minute walk from the center of town. One evening, while exploring the area around our
apartment, my roommates and I discovered a little hole–in–the–wall restaurant on a hidden side
street. There wasn't a single English speaking person in the entire place and there was no English
version of the menu. Although I have no idea what this place was named, I know how to get back

Brief Summary: The History Of Penguins
Millions of years ago, there was no Princeton. There was no Wisconsin. There was no America...
There. Was. No. World. All that there was was a empty area of space with a small book in the
middle. The book was called "The History Of Penguins". For thousands of years this book sat there
with nothing going on around it. Then out of nowhere an asteroid came and hit the book. It was at
this point that two gods and one goddess were knocked out of the pages of the book. As the
immortal gods and goddesses came into consciousness the book slowly died. The three immortal
gods names were Gorgonzola, god of cheese and life, Starbucks, goddess of coffee and food, and
Santa, god of blood, death, and over priced greeting cards. They just stood and watched ... Show

Gorgonzola made it rain cheese, Starbucks gave everyone one free coffee with the purchase of 2
muffins, and Santa made the bubonic plague. Everyone was having so much fun, until it happened.
Santa covered all of Europe in his sickness and killed millions. Gorgonzola disapproved.
Gorgonzola told Santa that the was taking it too far. Santa replied. Leave me alone Europe is mine!
Go to your own land! Starbucks started shrieking about how everyone was at each others throats as
Gorgonzola stared at Santa. It's all of our land said Gorgonzola. "WELL I DON'T WANT TO
SHARE ANYMORE!?!?!??!", yelled Santa. "NEITHER DO I!?!?" , yelled Gorgonzola.
"Moooooooooooo!!!!!!", yelled Starbucks. This is when the game began. The immortals decided
that the only way to decide who wins should be a game based on strategy, cunning, and
awesomeness. Chess. The chess game began slowly. Santa didn't kill any of Gorgonzola troops and
vice versa. This when on and on for hours. Gorgonzola killed 3 and Santa killed 2. Santa was getting
mad. Very mad. Santa decided to just send forth all of his men to war. This was the move that won
the game. Santa's move took so many of Gorgonzola's troops that defeat was imminent. Gorgonzola
surrendered and forfeited the game on the day of December 25th. Starbucks screamed and

How Rainwater Collection Can Help Minimize The Demand For...
Rainwater collection can help minimize the demand for water that gardening makes during the
hottest, driest periods. Rain barrels are a great way to capitalize on this free source of water.
Reasonably priced and easy to install, gardeners are advised to take a look at utilizing rain barrels.
Rainwater collection for use during dry spells is not new technology; rainwater has been being
collected for over 2,000 years. This ancient technology has found new life among today 's green
gardeners. Costs of municipal water are rising and drought restrictions now face many areas of the
United States. While the average American may not be inclined to install a large cistern in their
yard, rain barrels provide a reasonably priced and easily installed option that produces a nice
supplement to traditional water sources. Water is a much valued and often taken for granted natural
resource. Water is essential to life, human, critter, plant and other. Many Americans turn on the tap,
leave it running for whatever their intended purpose, such as brushing one 's teeth, and never give a
thought to the big picture of water shortages around the world. Often gardeners turn on their
sprinklers with not much thought beyond their knowledge that their plants need a thorough soaking.
It may seem to some that water is in abundance. Lakes and rivers may dot the topo map of your
region. However, consider these facts. Though 70% of the Earth surface is water only 2.5% is fresh
water (as opposed to salt

I Am Living At The Villa Borghese
I am living at the Villa Borghese. There is not a crumb of dirt anywhere, nor a chair misplaced. We
are all alone here and we are dead. Last night Boris discovered that he was lousy. I had to shave his
armpits and even then the itching did not stop. How can one get lousy in a beautiful place like this?
But no matter. We might never have known each other so intimately, Boris and I, had it not been for
the lice. Boris has just given me a summary of his views. He is a weather prophet. The weather will
continue bad, he says. There will be more calamities, more death, more despair. Not the slightest
indication of a change anywhere. The cancer of time is eating us away. Our heroes have killed
themselves, or are killing themselves. The hero, then, is not Time, but Timelessness. We must get in
step, a lock step, toward the prison of death. There is no escape. The weather will not change. It is
now the fall of my second year in Paris. I was sent here for a reason I have not yet been able to
fathom. I have no money, no resources, no hopes. I am the happiest man alive. A year ago, six
months ago, I thought that I was an artist. I no longer think about it, I am. Everything that was
literature has fallen from me. There are no more books to be written, thank God. This then? This is
not a book. This is libel, slander, defamation of character. This is not a book, in the ordinary sense of
the word. No, this is a prolonged insult, a gob of spit in the face of Art, a kick in the pants to God,

I. Introduction
Arrowmark Vending has the contract to supply pizza at football games for a university. The
operations manager, Tom Kealey, faces the challenge of determining how many pizzas to make
available at the games.
We have been provided with demand distributions for pizza based on past experience and know that
Tom will only supply plain cheese and pepperoni and cheese combo pizzas. We also know that there
is a fixed cost of
$1,000 allocated equally between the two types of pizzas, and that the costs to make plain cheese
pizza and pepperoni and cheese pizza are $4.50 and $5.00 respectively. Both pizzas sell for $9.00

If Kealey wants to achieve the highest expected profit from pizza sales at the game, he should

best option because we see the highest expected profit of $1,075 associated with this production
level for cheese pizza and
$1,140 in profit for pepperoni and cheese pizza. This number takes into account the probabilities at
each demand level, so we can be reasonably assured that this is an accurate

The Transatlantic Trade And Investment Partnership
Introduction: During the EU Parliamentary elections of May 2014, the Transatlantic Trade and
Investment Partnership (TTIP) came under much public scrutiny and has sparked a fierce debate on
the European Union competencies vis à vis member states competencies and increased the Euro–
skeptics' critiques of a "democratic deficit" within the EU. Advocates of TTIP claim that this trade
deal, if signed, would bring enormous benefits to both shores of the Atlantic, that it is a debt–free
economic stimulus to the stagnant European economy and it will set a "golden standard" for future
Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with third countries. Non–governmental organizations (NGOs) and
consumer protection activists fear that such a deal would lower domestic health, safety and
environmental standards. Anti–TTIP movements, united under the "stop–TTIP campaign"
throughout Europe, have been using many evocative images such as American chlorine–washed
chicken, hormone–treated meat, and genetically modified food, to explain their opposition to a
comprehensive trade agreement between the EU and the United States. With this paper, I intend to
analyze the possible impact that a TTIP agreement could have for the Italian agricultural sector,
what is at stake for it and what could be the limits to a successful agreement. My thesis is that the
Italian agricultural sector would greatly benefit from an EU–US trade agreement that would open
possibilities for economic growth without new burdens for

Essay on The Atkins Diet: A True Diet Revolution
In a society where ones' pants size measures their self worth, it is no wonder why fad diets, have
taken over in the struggle to lose weight. Over the past few decades, Hollywood has painted an
unattainable image of the perfect body. Although many celebrities' physical appearance may appear
healthy, the measures taken to obtain their body shape can cause numerous health risks. It seems as
though, every time people turn on their television, or flip through a magazine, there is a new diet
claiming to "melt away" the pounds. Many of these "miracle diets" do take off weight– temporarily.
But which diets really work in the long hual? The definition of diets is, regulated selections of
foods, specially designed and prescribed for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The answer is ketosis. When following a low–carbohydrate diet, people force their bodies into a
ketogenic state, forcing them to burn stored fat. Once a person begins the Atkins' diet, the high
consumption of protein, will cause the insulin levels to become normal. At this point, the body will
then begin to release ketones. These ketones, will then be released through a persons breath or urine,
and is proof that their body is burning stored fat (Dr. Atkins' 52–54). Before beginning the Atkins'
diet, there are a few pre–diet steps. The first step is discontinuing the use of any unnecessary
medications. It is also advised, that people schedule an appointment with their primary care
physician. The purpose of this is to inform them of their overall health, prior to starting the diet.
Through obtaining their cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose and insulin levels, people can measure
their success in future medical check–ups ( Dr. Atkins' 72–74). Once the proper medical precautions
have taken place, people can begin what is known as the 14–day induction diet. The rules of the
induction diet, although difficult to adjust to at first, are quite simple. The diet allows for no more
than 20grams of carbohydrates per day. However, the carbohydrates must come from green
vegetables, such as salad and asparagus. The diet does not allow any of the following: bread, pasta,
fruit, grains or sugar. Even the most miniscule amounts of these foods during the

Pasta and Fashion: A Futuristic Point of View and Research
When I was 7 years old little girl, I had a big Europe tour with my family. I saw, listened, and ate
many things in many European countries, but Italy was my favorite country. After the trip even
though I visited Italy several times more, I still loved the culture, food, fashion, and history of Italy.
Therefore, in the end, I decided to study fashion design in Milan.
While I was staying in Italy, I made lots of Italian friends and could get into the culture.
Especially I realized that Italy has very strict eating rules and various kinds of food. Although I
come from Asia, each country uses basically only one type of rice. However Italians use the rice
from short grain to long grain. Imagine 'Pasta'! Obviously pasta has an enormous variety, and all
pasta shapes demonstrate their differences and help to identify the individual characteristics that
make them particularly suitable for certain sauces.
In a foreigner's point of view, they don't care even if it is linguine or spaghetti. For them, it is just a
pasta. However Italians are different, they think that the shape of pasta changes the taste completely.
For this reason they choose right pasta shape to go with the right sauce.

If customers have tried breadsticks from these companies and did not like them, then they may think
the same of the stuffed breadsticks from Olive Garden. It is important to market the stuffed
breadstick differently than the low cost breadsticks from the other restaurants.
SWOTT Analysis One useful aid that Team B can use to identify "relevant screening criteria and for
zeroing in on a feasible strategy is SWOT analysis." SWOT analysis identifies and lists the strengths
and weaknesses and its opportunities and threats (Perreault, Cannon, & McCarthy, 2009). Here are
the strengths and weaknesses and the opportunities and threats for the new breadsticks for Olive
Garden. Two important strengths for Olive Garden is that it is a well know Italian food restaurant
and they are known for their breadsticks. For Olive Garden to add a new line of breadsticks with
cheese will be a nice addition. There are many people who will enjoy the cheese filled breadsticks
served with the marinara sauce on the side. This gives Olive Garden customers a choice on what

Argumentative Analysis On Long Island
BEC SPK: a moniker widely recognized by all native Long Islanders as the iconic sandwich, bacon,
egg and cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup. Add well–done hash browns if you are looking to indulge, and
order sautéed spinach too if you are on a health kick. The underlying commonality for all Long
Islanders is our lust for LI town delis, each with their own local neighborhood charm. As much as
we are loyal to our consistent breakfast order, our egg sandwiches are loyal to us too. They are
symbolic of a simple meal to continue the weekend ritual and to start your Sunday off in the right
direction, recuperating from last night, while paving the way for a productive day ahead. On Long
Island, we hold our food orders to exceptionally high standards and take pride in the finished
product that cannot be replicated elsewhere. I amble below the emerald green signage into Seaqua
Deli, a hidden gem of LI and the heart of St. James. In line, stands 19 customers ahead, and I
successfully squeeze my flip flops in just enough space to fit three centimeters in front of the door
weather stripping, allowing the door to shut

Life Of A Multi Sport Athlete
There is a time in the life of a busy multi–sport athlete (and especially the longer, time–constrained,
endurance athlete) when you must eat, it must be a complete meal, and it must be quick. Your body
can only support high volume training, proper performance, and immune system strength for a
limited period of time if all your quick meals consist of microwaved meals in a box, gas station trail
mix, and even "all–organic" food bars. You 'll eventually crash. So you must make a habit of
regularly eating fast healthy meals and wholesome foods without heavy amounts of preservatives,
salts, sweeteners, and synthetic chemicals, and you must to figure out how to do it without huge
amounts of time and preparation needed. On that note, I 'm going to give you my top ten meals that
I rely on when I need good, nutritious food fast. That is, when I 've finished a big ride and have to
be at work in 10 minutes, when I 've gotten back from the gym and need to be in ben within an hour,
or when I have just a few minutes to make a dish to fuel a workout. Each meal includes a complete
blend of protein and carbs for recovery and performance needs, and while none of these quick
healthy meals are as tasty as filet mignon, lobster ravioli, or a loaded chopped vegetable salad, they
will fulfill the physiological needs of the busy multi–sport athlete. These are all relatively cheap eats
with ingredients that are budget–friendly. Here are the top 10 meals that I personally make and have

Research Paper On Cheese
1. General Product Information
Product: Cheese
Background and General Information: 'The word cheese comes from Latin Caseus, from which the
modern word casein is also derived'. Cheese is a by–product of the milk of usually either cows or
goats, formed from the curds of the milk protein casein that are produced after the acidification of
milk. It is produced by acidifying the milk by adding vinegar or lemon to the milk. Bacteria also
acidify milk by turning the sugars in milk into lactic acid. The acidification causes the casein in milk
to clot and the milk becomes part solid. Then the solid form of the milk that results from acidifying
is separated from the liquid form and the solid form is then pressed into shape and this is then the
wheel or block of cheese we purchase in shops. Cheese is known for its protein fat and calcium
content. Unlike milk it has a relatively long shelf life, but the length of this shelf life depends on the
specific variety of cheese. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is done by acidifying the milk by adding rennet. This can also be done by adding an acid to the
milk such as vinegar or lemon juice. This is done to start a process called coagulation, which is the
name given to when the Casein in milk forms curds. Sometimes starter bacteria are employed to the
milk to change its sugars into lactic acid and start the coagulation in the milk. These bacteria also
determine the eventual flavour of aged cheeses. Cheeses are generally made using bacteria from the
Lacto coccus, Lactobacillus, or Streptococcus families. Some fresh cheeses are curdled only by
acidity, but most cheeses also use rennet. Rennet gives cheese a strong and rubbery gel as opposed
to the fragile curds produced by acidification. It causes curds to form at a lower acidity–. Therefore
the softer cheeses are curdled with more acid than rennet, whilst harder cheese types are the

Event Theme The theme chosen for this corporate team building was a "Wacky Olympics";
however, we wanted to add a humbling aspect to even out the playing fields between the teams and
build character amongst the fellow co–workers: Cirque du Freaks. Cirque du Freaks represents an
eclectic group of individuals working together utilizing their unique attributes to put on an amazing
show. The Cirque du Freaks mantra also describes a well developed teamwork based work
environment where communication is the key to success. This is the core of the Client's goal for this
event.
Cirque du Freaks' Wacky Olympics The Wacky Olympics was chosen to provide an avenue for team
building activities. Its fun, creative and the activities takes team work to reach the goals or complete
the tasks. Through the high adrenaline sport activities and brain teasing activities, we will create an
atmosphere of optimum solidarity. These are transferable skills that prove itself on the job. Each
team will be dressed as a Cirque du Freak character. This strategy was applied to allow every
employee to start on the same level. The teams are comprised of Middle management, lower
management and hourly employees. The Wacky Olympics will be held in the Fairgrounds. The

Rube Goldberg
How a Cartoonist Formed a National Science Competition Born in San Francisco, July 4th, 1883,
Rube Goldberg took up drawing at the age of four. He would trace images from books and
magazines and acquired a talent for it. When he was eight was enraptured by line drawings and
continued to trace from books, newspapers, and calendars. He once said, "I would literally smell the
ink on the pages. The pungent aroma gave me a greater thrill than inhaling the fragrance of the most
exquisite perfume." However, his dad thought it was impractical and discouraged him from
drawing, telling Rube that he should study engineering. He went to the University of California at

Eating Food That Dies
"Real food is alive – and therefore it should eventually die" (Food Rules: An Eater's Manual 29).
Foods with seemingly infinite shelf lives continue to reach Americans' stomachs more frequently
than ever before. Their impact on modern day America causes devastating health issues and
diseases. Current heart disease, cancer, obesity, and diabetes rates have been drastically increasing
since World War II (In Defense of Food 22). Today's society fails to embrace the lost art of dining.
Food manufacturers focus on the convenience of consumption and storage rather than the natural
nutritional value of food. In an age when processed food consumption continues to escalate, and
chronic diseases follow suit, current trends imply that natural, ... Show more content on

Fast food restaurants in particular promote nourishing and nutritious dishes without mentioning the
overwhelming amount of sodium, calories, and fat in each dish.
With many families involved in numerous extra–curricular activities, fast food has become a staple
in today's society. Olive Garden, one of America's most famous Italian restaurants, advertises "fresh,
delicious Italian food" ("Who We Are"). While they may be delicious, many dishes at Olive Garden
will not provide any health benefit for the consumer (Barnhart). Many of the dishes served,
including the "Chicken Alfredo Pizza," "Tour of Italy," and "Steak Gorgonzola Alfredo," have about
1,350 calories and 60 grams of fat each (Barnhart). With a suggested daily caloric intake of 2000
and daily fat intake of 65 grams by the Food and Drug Administration, each dish possesses over half
a day's worth of calories and nearly an entire day's worth of fat (Barnhart). The "Chicken Alfredo
Pizza" alone contains 3,200 milligrams of sodium, over twice the daily recommendation (Barnhart).
Often misleading, many fast food restaurants sell "healthy" salads no better than their burgers. A
McDonald's Caesar salad without chicken or dressing contains 90 calories, 4 grams of fat, and 180
milligrams of sodium ("McDonald's Nutrition Facts & Calorie Information"). With grilled chicken,
it contains 220 calories, 6 grams of fat, and 890 milligrams of sodium ("McDonald's Nutrition Facts

bunch of keys on a keyring from his pocket and dangled them within my reach. Stan took a picture
of Vince holding one key and me holding the skeleton key! It was a very momentous photo.
FINALLY MOVING IN "For those who wait, waiting is a life time." Isn't that how the saying goes?
It was going to be a brutal, long summer waiting for September to when we would return to
Morcella together for the actual moving in. I spent a big part of every day focused on what I wanted
to bring from California, what I wanted to do first after we arrived and I was constantly thinking
about how I wanted each room to look. As I poured my energy into our Italian dream, my heart was
full. I wondered if the clothes washer was the kind that dried clothes after the washing cycle. I read
about such machines and decided to send an e–mail to Ann to ask some questions. I was thrilled

The Pros And Cons Of Environmental Pollution

  • 1. The Pros And Cons Of Environmental Pollution Environmental health is your wellbeing of your surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates. There things effect your air pollution like carbon monoxide you can get things like asthma. Also there clean water there different type of water depend where you live. Finally there is way to improve your environmental health and those around you. Cars and trucks produce air pollution throughout their life, including pollution emitted during vehicle operation, refueling, manufacturing, and disposal. Additional emissions are associated with the refini ary and secondary pollution. Primary pollution is emitted directly into the atmosphere; secondary pollution results from chemical reactions between pollutants in the atmosphere. The following are the major pollutants from motor vehicles. These particles of soot and metals give smog its murky color. Fine particles less than one–tenth the diameter of a human hair pose the most serious threat to human health, as they can penetrate deep into lungs. PM is a direct primary pollution and a secondary pollution from hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxides. Diesel exhaust is a major contributor to PM pollution. This odorless, colorless, and poisonous gas is formed by the combustion of fossil fuels such as gasoline and is emitted primarily from cars and trucks. When inhaled, CO blocks oxygen from the brain, heart, and other vital organs. Fetuses, newborn children, and people with chronic illnesses are especially susceptible to the effects of CO. Asthma is a chronic disease involving the airways in the lungs. These airways, or bronchial tubes, allow air to come in and out of the lungs. If you have asthma your airways are always inflamed. They become even more swollen and the muscles around the airways can tighten when something triggers your symptoms. This makes it difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs, causing symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and/or chest tightness. For many asthma sufferers, timing of these symptoms is closely related to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Personal Essay : My Favorite Vacation My Vacation This will be my story on my favorite vacation. This vacation was my most recent one in which i went on a cruise. A cruise is taking a ship to other destinations throughout the world. The cruise That i was on Went to 3 different islands. The following will be why this cruise was my favorite vacation ive ever been on. The first place we went to was Florida. We flew down to florida in order to board the ship but we got 1 night before we boarded the ship. Usually when we go down to florida the night before the cruise we end up going to a nice restaurant and this restaurant was especially fancy. When we first got there we got to our hotel and then walked around to find a nice place to eat. This particular steak house was unlike anything i've ever been in before. We walked up to the front and read a sign said "formal attire only" but we were in shorts and t shirts. As we were reading it the owner of the restaurant came out and welcomed us inside. We get inside they sit us down in this beautiful circular booth. They came and served us water and brought out a platter with an array of vegetables and fruits. Cucumbers, Oranges, Etc. Multiple servers would walk by and make sure we were fine, Service like ive never experienced before. This food was NOT cheap at all we did not expect it from the restaurant. I ordered a lobster bisque to start off and it was the most fantastic soup i've ever had in my life. After that i ordered a steak gorgonzola and that was absolutely phenomenal. The store owner was very polite and he himself came around to check on us and see how we were doing. By far the most memorable restaurant i've ever been to. Then we went home and went to bed to get ready for the cruise in the morning. We woke up at 5 am When it was pouring rain to get on the cruise ship the ship was absolutely phenomenal. I'll get into that at a later time. The first Island we went to is called Grand Turk In Turks and Caicos. Now this island we have already gone to previously so we knew what we were gonna do there. The second we got off the ship we took a half a mile walk down the beach to this place called "Jack's Shack" where they serve THE BEST Jerked chicken and play music and serve drinks to you while you lay ... • 6. My Favorite Food Ever since I was a little boy, pizza has always had a special place in my heart. From pizza day in the school cafeteria to pizza parties at sleep away camp, there was nothing more exciting than when that cardboard box was opened to reveal a round pie with eight delicious slices waiting to be devoured. Early on I learned that everybody eats their pizza differently. There are those who fold their slices in half, those who eat their slices with two hands, and those who (dare I say) like to cut their pizza with a fork and knife. Some people soak up the olive oil with a napkin, while others don't mind a greasy slice. Some people like the crust, while others live for that first bite. Rainwater collection for use during dry spells is not new technology; rainwater has been being collected for over 2,000 years. This ancient technology has found new life among today 's green gardeners. Costs of municipal water are rising and drought restrictions now face many areas of the United States. The Transatlantic Trade And Investment Partnership Introduction: During the EU Parliamentary elections of May 2014, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) came under much public scrutiny and has sparked a fierce debate on the European Union competencies vis à vis member states competencies and increased the Euro– skeptics' critiques of a "democratic deficit" within the EU. Advocates of TTIP claim that this trade deal, if signed, would bring enormous benefits to both shores of the Atlantic, that it is a debt–free economic stimulus to the stagnant European economy and it will set a "golden standard" for future Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with third countries. Non–governmental organizations (NGOs) and consumer protection activists fear that such a deal would lower domestic health, safety and environmental standards. Anti–TTIP movements, united under the "stop–TTIP campaign" throughout Europe, have been using many evocative images such as American chlorine–washed chicken, hormone–treated meat, and genetically modified food, to explain their opposition to a comprehensive trade agreement between the EU and the United States. With this paper, I intend to analyze the possible impact that a TTIP agreement could have for the Italian agricultural sector, what is at stake for it and what could be the limits to a successful agreement. My thesis is that the Italian agricultural sector would greatly benefit from an EU–US trade agreement that would open possibilities for economic growth without new burdens for ... When following a low–carbohydrate diet, people force their bodies into a ketogenic state, forcing them to burn stored fat. Once a person begins the Atkins' diet, the high consumption of protein, will cause the insulin levels to become normal. At this point, the body will then begin to release ketones. These ketones, will then be released through a persons breath or urine, and is proof that their body is burning stored fat (Dr. Atkins' 52–54). Before beginning the Atkins' diet, there are a few pre–diet steps. The first step is discontinuing the use of any unnecessary medications. It is also advised, that people schedule an appointment with their primary care physician. The purpose of this is to inform them of their overall health, prior to starting the diet. Through obtaining their cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose and insulin levels, people can measure their success in future medical check–ups ( Dr. Atkins' 72–74). Once the proper medical precautions have taken place, people can begin what is known as the 14–day induction diet. The rules of the induction diet, although difficult to adjust to at first, are quite simple. The diet allows for no more than 20grams of carbohydrates per day. SWOT analysis identifies and lists the strengths and weaknesses and its opportunities and threats (Perreault, Cannon, & McCarthy, 2009). • 23. Research Paper On Cheese 1. General Product Information Product: Cheese Background and General Information: 'The word cheese comes from Latin Caseus, from which the modern word casein is also derived'. Cheese is a by–product of the milk of usually either cows or goats, formed from the curds of the milk protein casein that are produced after the acidification of milk. It is produced by acidifying the milk by adding vinegar or lemon to the milk. Bacteria also acidify milk by turning the sugars in milk into lactic acid. The acidification causes the casein in milk to clot and the milk becomes part solid. Then the solid form of the milk that results from acidifying is separated from the liquid form and the solid form is then pressed into shape and this is then the wheel or block of cheese we purchase in shops. Cheese is known for its protein fat and calcium content. Unlike milk it has a relatively long shelf life, but the length of this shelf life depends on the specific variety of cheese. ... This is done to start a process called coagulation, which is the name given to when the Casein in milk forms curds. Sometimes starter bacteria are employed to the milk to change its sugars into lactic acid and start the coagulation in the milk. These bacteria also determine the eventual flavour of aged cheeses. Cheeses are generally made using bacteria from the Lacto coccus, Lactobacillus, or Streptococcus families. Some fresh cheeses are curdled only by acidity, but most cheeses also use rennet. Rennet gives cheese a strong and rubbery gel as opposed to the fragile curds produced by acidification. It causes curds to form at a lower acidity–. • 25. Genetic Linkage Genetics Experimental Analysis Set #2 Linkage 1. In gorgonzolas, there are three recessive traits that affect the organism's appeal: shrunken fruit, foul–smelling flowers, and short height. A heterozygote was crossed with a homozygote, yielding the following offspring: 46 – foul–smelling 44 – shrunken fruit, short height 8 – short height 8 – shrunken fruit 7 – foul–smelling, short height 6 – foul–smelling, shrunken fruit 3 – foul–smelling, shrunken fruit, short height 1 – normal phenotype Determine the genetic map for these traits, showing map distances. 2. Given the following three genes: Q –10 mu – P –30 mu – S You cross a homozygous dominant individual with a homozygous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two recessive alleles are both on the same chromosome. Genes A and B completely follow Mendel's principles of inheritance; genes B and C are physically connected together and never are separated from each other at any time during any cell division cycle or fertilization event. Draw below the gamete genotypes that this individual could produce. Do genes A and C follow Mendel's principles of inheritance? Why or why not? Explain fully. 10. You are given the following genetic map: L––––––15 mu–––––––M–––––––––28mu–––––––––N You are also provided with a heterozygous female, and a homozygous recessive male for a genetic cross. In this particular female, all the dominant alleles are on one chromosome, and the recessive counterparts are on the other homologous chromosome. Due to a chromosomal condition, in the female no recombination occurs between the M and N loci. Normal recombination occurs between the L and M loci. Diagram this cross, and show the genotypes and frequencies of all offspring expected from this cross. 11. The progeny of a Drosophila female (heterozygous at three loci: y, ct, and w) crossed to a wild type male are listed below: Phenotype Number females: y+ ct+ w+ 2000 males: y+ ct+ w 773 y ct w+ 782 y ct+ w+ 201 y+ ct w 209 y+ ct w+ 15 y ct+ w 16 y ct w 3 y+ ct+ w+ 1 Provide the ... • 26. Rube Goldberg How a Cartoonist Formed a National Science Competition Born in San Francisco, July 4th, 1883, Rube Goldberg took up drawing at the age of four. He would trace images from books and magazines and acquired a talent for it. When he was eight was enraptured by line drawings and continued to trace from books, newspapers, and calendars. He once said, "I would literally smell the ink on the pages. The pungent aroma gave me a greater thrill than inhaling the fragrance of the most exquisite perfume." However, his dad thought it was impractical and discouraged him from drawing, telling Rube that he should study engineering. He went to the University of California at Berkeley and graduated in 1904, after which he worked for the city of San Francisco ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Rube Goldberg History." • 27. Eating Food That Dies "Real food is alive – and therefore it should eventually die" (Food Rules: An Eater's Manual 29). Foods with seemingly infinite shelf lives continue to reach Americans' stomachs more frequently than ever before. Their impact on modern day America causes devastating health issues and diseases. Current heart disease, cancer, obesity, and diabetes rates have been drastically increasing since World War II (In Defense of Food 22). Today's society fails to embrace the lost art of dining. Food manufacturers focus on the convenience of consumption and storage rather than the natural nutritional value of food. In an age when processed food consumption continues to escalate, and chronic diseases follow suit, current trends imply that natural, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fast food restaurants in particular promote nourishing and nutritious dishes without mentioning the overwhelming amount of sodium, calories, and fat in each dish. With many families involved in numerous extra–curricular activities, fast food has become a staple in today's society. Olive Garden, one of America's most famous Italian restaurants, advertises "fresh, delicious Italian food" ("Who We Are"). While they may be delicious, many dishes at Olive Garden will not provide any health benefit for the consumer (Barnhart). Many of the dishes served, including the "Chicken Alfredo Pizza," "Tour of Italy," and "Steak Gorgonzola Alfredo," have about 1,350 calories and 60 grams of fat each (Barnhart). With a suggested daily caloric intake of 2000 and daily fat intake of 65 grams by the Food and Drug Administration, each dish possesses over half a day's worth of calories and nearly an entire day's worth of fat (Barnhart). The "Chicken Alfredo Pizza" alone contains 3,200 milligrams of sodium, over twice the daily recommendation (Barnhart). Often misleading, many fast food restaurants sell "healthy" salads no better than their burgers. A McDonald's Caesar salad without chicken or dressing contains 90 calories, 4 grams of fat, and 180 milligrams of sodium ("McDonald's Nutrition Facts & Calorie Information"). With grilled chicken, it contains 220 calories, 6 grams of fat, and 890 milligrams of sodium ("McDonald's Nutrition Facts & Calorie Information"). The crispy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Morcella Descriptive Writing pizza was beautifully cooked on a crispy crust that didn't sag in the middle when he picked it up. The most memorable dish was Vince's gnocchi; a plate full of light–as–air, tiny pillows of fresh potato goodness, smothered in a mouthwatering, rich and creamy gorgonzola sauce. Vince had never tasted anything so divine. It was delicious. The men savored their well deserved, exquisite dinner and wine engaged in happy conversation about the day's events. Stan was relieved to be away from the sadness which encompassed his home in California and Vince was grateful to have Stan's companionship and moral support. When they returned to the apartment, Vince was too energized to sleep. Intending to paint only a small area, he opened a can to dip ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How do you feel? Do you have buyer's remorse?" "Are you kidding?!" Vince answered. "I have the direct opposite. I can't wait to go back with you in September. I love it there, I love our apartment." "Oh, thank God." I replied. "Where are the keys, let me see the skeleton key." Vince produced a bunch of keys on a keyring from his pocket and dangled them within my reach. Stan took a picture of Vince holding one key and me holding the skeleton key! It was a very momentous photo. FINALLY MOVING IN "For those who wait, waiting is a life time." Isn't that how the saying goes? It was going to be a brutal, long summer waiting for September to when we would return to Morcella together for the actual moving in. I spent a big part of every day focused on what I wanted to bring from California, what I wanted to do first after we arrived and I was constantly thinking about how I wanted each room to look. As I poured my energy into our Italian dream, my heart was full. I wondered if the clothes washer was the kind that dried clothes after the washing cycle. I read about such machines and decided to send an e–mail to Ann to ask some questions. I was thrilled when I read her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
