National vs Regional
National magazine
A national magazine typically has a
continuous theme throughout all of
their issues. The audience can then
link that magazine to a certain genre
every time they see the magazine.
Even tough national magazines have a
specific target audience they are
always looking to expand their
audience. National magazines have
specific codes and conventions, and
are similar in most national magazines,
for example there is always a
masthead, subhead, barcode, main
image, date and issue number.
National magazines, feature interviews
and articles and competions.
Regional magazine
Regional magazines are similar to
national magazines. As their magazine
has a smaller audience they have to
make sure that their content always
appeals to their target audience.
They also include interviews and
articles, however they need to be
more specific to the regional where
their magazine is based. Their main
audience target audience is people
that are local and in that specific
region, so they need to make sure
that their regional magazine is up to
date with their regional.
National magazines
§ Much larger target audience – aiming to
attract a wider audience
§ Content can relate to anyone in the
country
§ Magazines are more well known around
the country
§ National magazines are usually more
successful
§ They also get more promotions and are
know across regions.
Regional magazines
§ They have much smaller target audience
§ Their content must be regionally specific
§ The regional magazines are only well
known in their specific region
§ Regional magazines will not be as
successful as national magazines as
they are only sold in that specific region.
§ Regional magazines don’t have as much
promotion.
§ They do advertise local business
