Evaluation Question 3
What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Making changes;
Ideas from my Focus Group
The image on the left was my original planned and
completed contents page. I put this forward to my
focus group in order to find out their collective
opinion. I found that common suggestions for
improvements came up such as one of the images
doesn’t fit the ambience of the page and doesn’t
really fulfill the target audience’s wants and needs.
One member even stated ‘the image just doesn’t fit
the page and slightly overpowers the rest of the
images’.
Based on this I decided to revisit my contents page,
I edited some of the images so they looked sharper
and slightly warmer than before and I changed the
photo to a medium shot of the Granville Cinema,
instead of an image in a concert which would attract
a younger target audience.
I found this meeting to particularly influence my
decision on my production and proved to be
effective as member felt the overall feel and
appearance of the page was more appealing. The
image on the right is my final draft.
Making changes;
Ideas from my Focus Group
Deciding an image for my front cover was hard for me so I decided to consult with my focus group. They chose the one
highlighted in red because although the images in the other two were very crisp and clean they didn’t fit my house style, and
the front cover highlighted was ‘much warmer’ and ‘felt welcoming’ which was why it attracted them more.
By consulting my focus group it helped me to learn and make a decision on what a typical audience and my target audience
would want to see in a regional magazine if they were reading a real media construction.
Making changes;
Ideas from my Focus Group
Here I decided to put my billboard design into my
focus group, firstly to look at the layout regarding
the media platforms the magazine can be available
on, as well as the overall impact the billboard has
on the audience.
Comments on the first image included:
‘Visually the billboard looks appealing as the bright
colours entice my attention, however I’m not sure
that I would entirely know what was being
advertised in the short time I would be looking at
the billboard’
Comments on the second image were:
‘The billboard looks much more evenly spaced now
there is a print magazine included, in the first
billboard there was a bit of empty space which
didn’t look that appealing, but now the
advertisement is clear that it is for a Regional
Magazine’
Based on this I decided to continue with the
second image, as it directly shows what I am
advertising and puts the billboard to use.
Individual Comments;
‘The sell line doesn’t look that
important when it is positioned at the
bottom of the page, and the fact it is
not bold makes it a little difficult to
read as it seems to fade into the
background, therefore defeating the
object of being a sell line which grabs
the readers attention’
After receiving this feedback, I have
gone back and made the necessary
adjustments to amend the issues. I
have now made the sell line bold and
in caps, and I have positioned it
above the text which alleviates
importance.
For the Gallery section on my website
- ‘The images work really well
together, and compliment each other,
however to stand out more (as they
look slightly static) you should
increase the contrast and vibrance of
the images to make them pop and
grab the readers attention’
In regards to the suggestion above, I
did attempt to make the images more
vibrant and increased the saturation.
However, when done so, I felt the
images looked over the top when I
wanted them to look more formal and
professional instead of contemporary
and modern, so I have kept the
images how they were, for an overall
better finished product.
- ADRIAN MOWL
- LARISSA SCOTT
Individual Comments;
Contents Page Feedback
‘One thing I would look to
change is how the images
and text hasn’t been
separated by anything
therefore making it look less
organised and a bit unclear
which text linked to which
image’
In attempt to address this
I separated the text and
images and each article
with a thin grey line which
made it look more
organised and
professional, and made the
page work as a whole.
- CAROLINE TEAGUE
‘The only thing I can see that
I would suggest for
improvement is that the title
of the magazine is at the top
left hand corner when the
majority of the time it is either
at the top or the right hand
side’
I considered changing the
position with the title on the
right however when done so,
I felt the colours didn’t match
and I preferred the majority
of the text to be positioned
on the left underlining the
images, it also appeared to
take away the attention from
the images and text
underneath it.
- TIM LAWRENCE
‘I think the range of images
relating to the articles really
helps grab the readers
attention. The descriptions
give me enough information
to want to read more, and
keep my interests high’
The feedback here is further
acknowledgment from my
target audience that I have
produced a piece which
satisfies their wants and
needs.
- LANA O’NEIL
Individual Comments;
Advertisement Page Feedback
‘The text ‘Be Inspired’ should
be in a much bigger font so it
stands out if thats what the
main focus of your advert is
evolved around’
After experimenting with
different fonts sizes I finally
adjusted the text ‘Be
Inspired’ to take up the
majority of the top half of the
page as I felt it addressed
the audience in a more
professional way and stood
out so much more, and
captivated the readers eye
more.
- SANDRA HARLING
‘I feel like the image should be
zoomed in more as the focus
should be the LED book, it
would appeal to me more if this
was the case’
- WARREN LOCK
‘I really like how professional the
advert looks as it promotes the
Turner Centre very well. The text
is positioned very nicely across
the page and the font
compliments it entirely, making it
a good advert in my opinion
- NATASHA OAKLEY
This is a point I have had
difficulty in fulfilling. I
understand what the
individuals issue is, although
when manipulating it, the
page looks unsymmetrical
and the lighting makes the
image look uneven.
Therefore, I have decided
not to act on this point as the
consequences will not help
make the advert better.
This comment shows my
audience are connecting
and perceiving the advert
how I intended, therefore any
changes I make should be
subtle so I dont change this.
Individual Comments;
Editorial Page Feedback
‘The layout is appealing and
looks very much like an letter,
quirky with the signature under
the text however I think the title
is too small and and the images
are becoming the main visual’
To deal with this positive
feedback, I increased the size
of the title ‘from the Editor’ and
positioned it at the bottom of the
image instead of right at the
top. I changed the colour to
white to further make it stand
out and grab the readers
attention.
- STEPH RICKS
‘The images and text balances
out and compliment each other
very well, the house colours are
complimented throughout this
page and the layout works
incredibly well’
- JOHN TIPOL
The feedback is really positive
particularly as it comments on
the layout of the image and text
which I spent a lot of time
editing and perfecting to make
the page look professional and
formal.
‘The images on this page are
great! They help me visualize
the information about the
articles, and they are all evenly
spaced out. Even though the
page is dominated by the big
chunk of text the images
support the text and even the
page out’
- ANN COPPER
This above comment shows my
research into codes and
conventions of similar products
was appropriate for appealing
to my target audience, resulting
in my media product fulfilling
the wants and needs of my
audience.
Individual Comments;
Ancillary Task Feedback
‘The website doesn’t entirely
appeal to me, as I am unsure on
the layout of the home page,
however the billboard would
appeal to me as it is simplistic
and eye catching’
- LIN MARCH
This feedback shows me that
my billboard is effective in
grabbing the readers attention,
and promoting my product
which is the sole purpose of the
billboard.
Considering the home
page of the website I have
added a subscription
button for my magazine
which instantly showed
what the website was
about. However I still think I
should of added images of
my magazines on the
Home Page instead of the
Gallery page as it would
make it even more specific
on what my site is about.
‘For the website the top title area
can use some colour, the white
background looks bland. The
billboard reflects the the sell line
‘your magazine your Ramsgate’
well and contrasts against the
text’
- CHRIS MOWL
I decided to keep the
background white throughout
the website as it is a common
convention from the existing
media which I have researched.
The feedback on the billboard
means that my billboard is effect
and appeals to my target
audience

  • 5. Individual Comments; ‘The sell line doesn’t look that important when it is positioned at the bottom of the page, and the fact it is not bold makes it a little difficult to read as it seems to fade into the background, therefore defeating the object of being a sell line which grabs the readers attention’ After receiving this feedback, I have gone back and made the necessary adjustments to amend the issues. I have now made the sell line bold and in caps, and I have positioned it above the text which alleviates importance. For the Gallery section on my website - ‘The images work really well together, and compliment each other, however to stand out more (as they look slightly static) you should increase the contrast and vibrance of the images to make them pop and grab the readers attention’ In regards to the suggestion above, I did attempt to make the images more vibrant and increased the saturation. However, when done so, I felt the images looked over the top when I wanted them to look more formal and professional instead of contemporary and modern, so I have kept the images how they were, for an overall better finished product. - ADRIAN MOWL - LARISSA SCOTT

Individual Comments; Contents Page Feedback ‘One thing I would look to change is how the images and text hasn’t been separated by anything therefore making it look less organised and a bit unclear which text linked to which image’ In attempt to address this I separated the text and images and each article with a thin grey line which made it look more organised and professional, and made the page work as a whole. - CAROLINE TEAGUE ‘The only thing I can see that I would suggest for improvement is that the title of the magazine is at the top left hand corner when the majority of the time it is either at the top or the right hand side’ I considered changing the position with the title on the right however when done so, I felt the colours didn’t match and I preferred the majority of the text to be positioned on the left underlining the images, it also appeared to take away the attention from the images and text underneath it. - TIM LAWRENCE ‘I think the range of images relating to the articles really helps grab the readers attention. The descriptions give me enough information to want to read more, and keep my interests high’ The feedback here is further acknowledgment from my target audience that I have produced a piece which satisfies their wants and needs. - LANA O’NEIL
  • 7. Individual Comments; Advertisement Page Feedback ‘The text ‘Be Inspired’ should be in a much bigger font so it stands out if thats what the main focus of your advert is evolved around’ After experimenting with different fonts sizes I finally adjusted the text ‘Be Inspired’ to take up the majority of the top half of the page as I felt it addressed the audience in a more professional way and stood out so much more, and captivated the readers eye more. - SANDRA HARLING ‘I feel like the image should be zoomed in more as the focus should be the LED book, it would appeal to me more if this was the case’ - WARREN LOCK ‘I really like how professional the advert looks as it promotes the Turner Centre very well. The text is positioned very nicely across the page and the font compliments it entirely, making it a good advert in my opinion - NATASHA OAKLEY This is a point I have had difficulty in fulfilling. I understand what the individuals issue is, although when manipulating it, the page looks unsymmetrical and the lighting makes the image look uneven. Therefore, I have decided not to act on this point as the consequences will not help make the advert better. This comment shows my audience are connecting and perceiving the advert how I intended, therefore any changes I make should be subtle so I dont change this.
  • 8. Individual Comments; Editorial Page Feedback ‘The layout is appealing and looks very much like an letter, quirky with the signature under the text however I think the title is too small and and the images are becoming the main visual’ To deal with this positive feedback, I increased the size of the title ‘from the Editor’ and positioned it at the bottom of the image instead of right at the top. I changed the colour to white to further make it stand out and grab the readers attention. - STEPH RICKS ‘The images and text balances out and compliment each other very well, the house colours are complimented throughout this page and the layout works incredibly well’ - JOHN TIPOL The feedback is really positive particularly as it comments on the layout of the image and text which I spent a lot of time editing and perfecting to make the page look professional and formal. ‘The images on this page are great! They help me visualize the information about the articles, and they are all evenly spaced out. Even though the page is dominated by the big chunk of text the images support the text and even the page out’ - ANN COPPER This above comment shows my research into codes and conventions of similar products was appropriate for appealing to my target audience, resulting in my media product fulfilling the wants and needs of my audience.
  • 9. Individual Comments; Ancillary Task Feedback ‘The website doesn’t entirely appeal to me, as I am unsure on the layout of the home page, however the billboard would appeal to me as it is simplistic and eye catching’ - LIN MARCH This feedback shows me that my billboard is effective in grabbing the readers attention, and promoting my product which is the sole purpose of the billboard. Considering the home page of the website I have added a subscription button for my magazine which instantly showed what the website was about. However I still think I should of added images of my magazines on the Home Page instead of the Gallery page as it would make it even more specific on what my site is about. ‘For the website the top title area can use some colour, the white background looks bland. The billboard reflects the the sell line ‘your magazine your Ramsgate’ well and contrasts against the text’ - CHRIS MOWL I decided to keep the background white throughout the website as it is a common convention from the existing media which I have researched. The feedback on the billboard means that my billboard is effect and appeals to my target audience
