1. Evaluation:
For the task of creating a college magazine and contents page, I found it
successful. The reasons for this is because I have done all the research and
analysed magazines which have allowed me to gain a firm idea of what
features create a college magazine. I have followed similar conventions
such as, the cover lines, main image and masthead etc. I believe that I have
created a magazine that is suitable for my target demographic and also
fulfils the audience’s needs and gratifications; also I have attracted my
audience towards my magazine by using bait and hooks, for things that
would apply to that specific audience like ‘learn how to make quick money’.
I have also received feedback which will help me in improving my work,
many comments being that it was too busy so to improve, I will therefore
make it more simplistic and easier for my audience rather than having lots
of things together. After the research which manly consisted of one main
image as a background so I thought of changing this conventional
background on order to make my college magazine unique and more eye-
catching. So instead of having one main image I had a variety of different
images, which were all taken by me as specified, as I was influenced by the
start of the new year which sparked the idea for my main article, ‘Review of
2012’ this was successful In making my magazine unique however, it may
be a problem for my target demographic as they will find it a bit too busy
and harder to read the cover lines placed around it. As for the contents
page, I followed the conventional layout of having the articles listed and big
bold font for the page number to indicate to the audience which page to go
to. For the design I used the comments from my questionnaire, for what
colours, to use blue and white as these are the same colours of the college, I
also placed the college logo in the top right hand corner so the audience
could identify it. From the comments page which people could leave
comments on what they liked and what could be improved, they thought
the cover was bright, bold and looks interesting, there are lots of things to
look at and it catches their eye. On the other hand they thought it was too
busy and as before I have made notes on how to improve this. The contents
page was that the layout was well structured and easy to read. On the other
hand they thought the blue was effective but like to seem more colours,
which I can improve by adding colour to the fonts. My opinion is that it was
a good first attempt and looks like a professional magazine front cover and

2. contents page. True there is room for improvement which I have noted
how. But I think it was successful and I am proud of the finished result.
