INTRODUCTION

Indigenous Peoples Education reverted Teachers and students
mind alike. It made a sudden twist but strengthened the vision
and mission of the Deped.
As a teacher in a Kalanguya Community, it is a challenge for
me on how to help implement this IPED Program. Nevertheless, I
thought of a very simple way with the blessing of my School
Head, Dr. Roger S. Sebastian.
Literature is life. This is true even with the Kalanguya People.
It is explicitly reflected in their way of life or practices. Some of
which, are the richness of their oral folk tales, fables, short stories,
chants, riddles, songs and many more. They use these things to
educate their children with the Natural Law (Likas na Batas
Moral) as they instill in them the values they need to learn.
The thing is, these literary pieces are orally passed on and
with the advent of extremely high technologies and so many
concerns, many of which are already buried in the culture-bearers
modern mind.
Subsequently, Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) sparkled
as a glimmer of hope because these becoming-extinct-rich-
cultures could be possibly salvaged against forgetful minds, be
restored and survive through ethno-researches and other means
such as this.
This material is developed mainly to preserve and enrich
the Kalanguya literary pieces and to be utilized in classroom

instruction. For the writer personally believes that learning will
easily take place when culture and curriculum merges.

BUNBUNTIYA (Kalanguya RIDDLES)
Bunbuntiya or tattamma is a kalanguya term for riddles.
For the Kalanguyas, sharing of riddles in different occasions like wedding
celebrations, kanyao, comforting a bereaved family and other similar events is a practice and
is still a living tradition as a form of recreation, entertainment and bonding.
