OVERVIEW
AABIG (Kalanguya Prose)
(Short Stories, Fables, Parables, Legends)
AABIG is a kalanguya term for prose like short stories, legends, fables,
parables, anecdotes and the like.
Man-aabig or Story telling is one of the Kalanguya Practices
wherein the elders gather the kids around the bonfire (intokkan) in
the hut and tell stories, fables, folktales and many others to entertain
them while keeping the fire of the pig’s food (upi) or before sleeping
because in a typical kalanguya family, the members sleep together
since there are no rooms available for every member. This activity
makes the family bonding stronger and closer.
There are three main purposes of sharing aabig. The Kalanguya
people, especially the elders often share aabig to the kids before
they go they go to bed to: a) drive a point or instill values; b) give a
point of reflection and ; c) make the kids sleep easily for them to
finish their tasks.

  • 2. 2 OVERVIEW AABIG (Kalanguya Prose) (Short Stories, Fables, Parables, Legends) AABIG is a kalanguya term for prose like short stories, legends, fables, parables, anecdotes and the like. Man-aabig or Story telling is one of the Kalanguya Practices wherein the elders gather the kids around the bonfire (intokkan) in the hut and tell stories, fables, folktales and many others to entertain them while keeping the fire of the pig’s food (upi) or before sleeping because in a typical kalanguya family, the members sleep together since there are no rooms available for every member. This activity makes the family bonding stronger and closer. There are three main purposes of sharing aabig. The Kalanguya people, especially the elders often share aabig to the kids before they go they go to bed to: a) drive a point or instill values; b) give a point of reflection and ; c) make the kids sleep easily for them to finish their tasks.
